The article focuses on a study which tested hypotheses concerning the associations between winter temperature and breeding bird abundance. The study included 37 common bird species wintering in the Czech Republic. Study authors hypothesized that bird species will differ in their winter temperature and abundance relationships in relation to body mass and dietary niche. They found that the relationships between abundance and temperature are not significant in most species. They concluded that changes in winter temperatures may not significantly affect common breeding birds populations.
