The article discusses the history of Punjabis in the Columbia River region of the Pacific Northwest, and particularly in Oregon. It highlights the Ghadar Party, a revolutionary nationalist party that sought to overthrow British colonial rule in India. The author considers anti-Punjabi nativism and reflects on the Asiatic Exclusion League (AEL). The so-called "Hindu Alley," the living area of Punjabi workers employed by Hammond Lumber Mill in Astoria, Oregon is considered. The comparative experiences of Finnish fishermen and Chinese cannery crews are addressed.
