This article presents a reflection on the imaginaries and symbolism present in some artistic creations (literature, visual and film) about the recent violence in Colombia, in which the Magdalena River has been a protagonist and in which can be seen the persistence of memories in the beliefs and representations of the riverside populations. Four aesthetic productions are analyzed that emphasize the river and the presence therein of spiritual and mythological beings in the discussed narrative corpus in order to recognise the metaphors and symbolism present in the literary and audiovisual narratives regarding political violence. This makes it possible to make an interpretive account with reference to the conceptual perspective of symbolic imagination. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The management of organizations is limited at present time, in addition to traditional symbolic aspects both within them and in their relations with other organizations elements. This article analyzes two texts, one produced by a Colombian cement business organization and the other produced by a union representing some of its workers, in relation to a business organization established by the purpose of consolidating the organizational culture event. With a theoretical approach from the perspectives of critical management studies the methodology is discourse analysis, based on proposals of Van Dijk (1996, 2003) and Potter (1996). During Alvaro Uribe's second term in power, diplomatic relations between Colombia and Venezuela were marked by severe difficulties that triggered several crises. With the arrival of Juan Manuel Santos to power, however, these difficulties seem to have been resolved unexpectedly fast. Hence, rather than being a crisis caused by some structural aspects of bilateral relations, the dispute was about misunderstandings and tensions that can be linked to specific dynamics of the relationship between Hugo Chávez and Alvaro Uribe. The authors use the concept of political spectacle proposed by Edelman (1988) in order to examine the relationship in question. From this perspective, the unsuccessful attempt to reach a humanitarian agreement with the mediation of Hugo Chávez that took place during the second half of 2007 can be considered as the first relevant event to analyze in the Venezuelan and Colombian leaders' conflictive interactions at the time. The article examines the way in which the political developments of this period were interpreted and transmitted by the fí Tiempo newspaper immersed in a political spectacle that was based on a government-media relationship and aimed at generating support of the government in the public opinion through the symbolic use of the kidnapping issue. The article addresses cultural elements from Guajira family context. Experts on the field of culture and history of Guajira were interviewed; then the focus group technique was implemented to take into account cultural elements registered in the interaction of the members of Guajira's families (sample); content analysis method was implemented to organize the information extracted from the encounters (the software ethnograph will be used for this).
