Although some studies have been carried out about suicidal behavior in the adolescence in Colombia, it has been necessary to carry out research with larger samples and from different regions of the country, examining aspects of ideation such as suicidal planning, which tends to predict suicidal attempts, taking into account that sex differences in attempts and such ideation among Colombian adolescents have not been sufficiently investigated. This study examined sex differences in the number of suicide attempts and suicidal ideation (seriously thinking about suicide and planning to commit suicide in the last twelve months), among 1659 adolescents aged 13 to 19 years (54 % female), from four cities of Colombia (Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Tunja and Yopal). In addition, adolescents who reported having thought of a suicide plan were compared with those who had not, in a series of individual and socio-family variables previously related to suicidal behavior. The instruments used were the Checklist SCL-90-R, the Conflict in Adolescent Dating Relationships Inventory (CADRI), the Behavior Assessment System for Children 3rd Ed. (BASC-S3), a self-report questionnaire on psychological variables, and a self-report questionnaire on incidents of violence between parents witnessed by adolescents. Non-parametric tests (Mann Whitney U, effect size for this test, Chi Square, Odds Ratio) were used, due to the nominal and ordinal nature of some variables and because the quantitative variables were not normally distributed in the sample. Women reported more suicide attempts than men, and significantly more (p = .05) reported serious thoughts of suicide and a suicide plan. The participants who thought about a suicide plan in the last twelve months presented a significantly higher range of scores (p = .05) of the psychopathological symptoms measured with the SCL-90R and the BASC-S3, such as somatization, obsessions-compulsions, depression, anxiety, hostility and psychoticism, in the global severity index of the SCL-90R, in the clinical and school maladjustment indices of the BASC-S3, as well as a smaller range of scores in the personal adjustment index and the scales of this BASC index (interpersonal relations, relations with parents, self-esteem and self-confidence). They also reported a higher frequency of sexual, relational, verbal-emotional, physical violence and threats from their partner or ex-partner, examined by the CADRI, as well as a higher consumption of alcoholic beverages, marijuana and inhalants, violent physical punishment by parents or another caregiver, feeling neglected by the father and mother, running away from home, poor relationships with parents and siblings, and poor academic performance. The probability of thinking about a suicidal plan was higher (OR = 2.0) among those who reported feeling so sad or hopeless that they had to interrupt their normal activities, almost every day, for two weeks or more; having been physically punished in a violent way by a parent or other caregiver; having been forced to a sexual act by an older person, a peer, a family member or a stranger; having been abandoned totally or for a considerable time by the mother; having been thrown out of the house by one of the parents and having witnessed acts of physical, verbal or other types of violence between the parents. These results indicate that adolescents who have a greater vulnerability to suicidal behavior could be identified among those who present negative family circumstances, such as poor relationships with parents, domestic violence and observation of violence between parents, as well as negative social circumstances, such as poor interpersonal relationships, sexual violence and intimate partner violence, which could lead to the development of psychopathological symptoms, substance use, poor academic performance and other manifestations of clinical, educational and personal maladjustment, in order to carry out an intervention that decreases the likelihood of suicide attempts. They also show the importance of developing prevention alternatives from an ecological perspective, including peers, parents and teachers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBSTRUCTIVE lung diseases , *TEST anxiety , *QUALITY of life , *REHABILITATION , *BODY mass index , *AEROBIC capacity - Abstract
Objective: To determine the effects of pulmonary rehabilitation in men and women with a COPD diagnosis in a Colombian clinic. Method: A longitudinal and descriptive study was conducted with 75 COPD patients who entered a pulmonary rehabilitation program during 2018 and 2019. The population was divided into groups according to gender and some sociodemographic characteristics were assessed, such as spirometry expressed in percentage of the predicted value, body mass index, mMRC dyspnea, and capacity for physical exercise, as well as some physiological variables with the six-minute walk test, anxiety-depression (HADS) and quality of life (SGRQ). A p-value<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The cigarette packs smoked per year index was higher in men, 34±29.11 (p<0.001), whereas the exposure to firewood smoke was five times higher in women (p=0.037). All the variables related to the capacity for physical exercise improved significantly (p<0.021), with distance covered standing out: 63.26±60.03 vs. 51.53±61.02 in favor of women. mMRC dyspnea was initially higher in women when compared to men, 0.709±0.287, and presented a greater change in women with 1.294±0.415 when compared to men, 0.736±0.880, at the end of pulmonary rehabilitation. Conclusion: Pulmonary rehabilitation in women shows an increase of 63.26 meters in the distance covered and a 1.294-point reduction in dyspnea; while, for men, these figures were 51.53 meters and 0.736 points, respectively, as well as an improvement in quality of life in men by 11.47 SGRQ points when compared to women: 0.600. MENTAL depression , *SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC factors , *HEALTH occupations students , *MENTAL depression risk factors , *PUBLIC universities & colleges , *HIGHER education , *PSYCHOLOGY ,SOCIAL aspects - Abstract
This is a descriptive, cross-sectional design, carried out in order to identify levels of depression and associated sociodemographic factors in 190 students of Psychology, Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing, a State University of Magdalena (35.8% men and 64.2% women, mean 20.4 years and DT 2.7). We applied the 'Beck Depression Inventory "(BDI, Beck, Rush, Shaw and Emery, 1979) and sociodemographic data were recorded. We found that 52% suffer from some degree of depression: major depression 8%, 19% moderate depression and 25% mild depression. The Medicine presented higher percentage (5.7%), followed by Dentistry (1.5%), Nursing (0.5%) and Psychology (0%). Women had a greater presence of the disease (30.4%) than men (21.4%), but men were more severely depressed than women. Major depression is more focused on layers 1 and 2, and is more prevalent ages 18 to 24 years. We conclude that there is a tendency to depressive disorders in this population, which can lead to absenteeism, desertion or suicide, as confirmed by other studies. It is recommended to design and implement prevention programs in the university and continue with further studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CONSTITUTIONS -- Social aspects , *CONSTITUTIONAL law , *SEXUAL diversity , *EQUALITY laws , *PRAGMATISM ,SOCIAL aspects - Abstract
This article is a reflection of notions like sex, gender and moral over many philosophical ways of thinking: from John Dewey's pragmatism through Rorty's contemporary, passing by the theory of moral sense, the poststructuralism, among others. This also is an attempt to give judge elements in order to coordinate the constitutional interpretation of the equality right around sexual diversity made for the Constitutional Colombian Court with the enquiries advances succeeded in the national and international academic scope. First of all, there will be a conceptual tour down many philosophical slopes, and after that It will be a critic of the substantiated notions of the truth of sex and an exemplification of the latent possibility of sexual subversion in the case of transgender. Second chapter rescues elements of the moral sense and pragmatist's ethics, face to the way of the direction gave to the gender problematic. The last one it will be a parallel between conceptual frameworks treated and the interpretive debate raised inside the colombian legal system. In the last reflection it will be a nesting of all the inputs across the Dewey's theoric shaft, and provide some tools to deal with the theoric conflicts which emerge from the fights for the recognition of the sexual diversity.
