This study examines fiscal sustainability in Latin American countries from a unique time–frequency perspective, focusing on Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Mexico from 1997 to 2022. Using wavelet coherence analysis, it uncovers dynamic relationships between government revenue and expenditure over different time horizons, revealing varying causality patterns across countries and periods. The social protests of 2019 and 2021 in Colombia marked a turning point in the political culture of protest. From the perspective of the processes of mediatization, digitalization, and democratization that digital convergence confers on political participation, a reflection is made around the concept of participatory culture as the axis of analysis of the transformations of social protest, its media construction, and its individual and collective experimentation. Sixteen digital communicative pieces produced by native digital media were analyzed, which, supported by resources of digital communication, evidence a political and media culture of protest, supported by the logic of social media, with a strong counter-hegemonic and discursive opposition component. Frosty pod rot disease of cacao (FPR), caused by the fungus Moniliophthora roreri, has severely impacted the production of cocoa in Latin America since its discovery. Prior to the 1950s, FPR was known only from Colombia and Ecuador. However, beginning in the 1970s, its geographical range has dramatically expanded throughout most of the cacao‐producing regions of the Americas. The origin of the pathogen remains unknown. In this study, we evaluated the genetic diversity of M. roreri from areas spanning, as much as possible, its current geographical range using simple‐sequence repeat markers and a publicly available single‐nucleotide polymorphism data set. Two hotspots of genetic diversity were found: coastal Ecuador and the inter‐Andean Magdalena Valley of Colombia, neither of which correspond to the Amazonian origin of the host. However, both areas were early centres of intense cultivation of cacao. Our results indicate that M. roreri was introduced into both areas from its centre of origin, where intensive cacao cultivation probably led to the increase of inoculum and further dissemination of the disease. Current invasions can be traced to two genotypes responsible for all known instances of the pathogen in Central America, the Caribbean, Peru and Bolivia. We also report for the first time M. roreri in Maynas (Peruvian Amazon), which is probably the result of a recent introduction from Colombia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• This study represents one of the largest series of culture confirmed pneumonia that evaluates the impact of PCV10 in children. • Describes the important decrease of PCV10 serotypes with an increase in PCV13. • This study shows how in the post-vaccine period, PCV13 serotypes (19A, 6A and 3) were associated with greater severity. Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) have decreased pneumonia in children. Colombia introduced mass vaccination with PCV10 in 2012. Cases of pneumococcal pneumonia from 10 hospitals were included. Two periods were compared: pre-PCV10: 2008–2011 and post-PCV10: 2014–2019. The objective was to compare epidemiological and clinical characteristics before and after PCV10 vaccination. A total of 370 cases were included. Serotypes 1 (15, 11.2%) and 14 (33, 24.6%) were the most frequent in the pre-PCV10 period, with only 4 (3%) cases of serotype 19A and 1 case (0.7%) serotype 3. From the pre-PCV10 period to the post-PCV10 period, cases of serotypes 1 (6, 3.1%) and 14 (1, 7.8%) decreased, while cases of serotypes 19A (58, 30.2%), serotype 3 (32, 16.7%) and 6A (7, 3.6%) increased (p < 0.001); complicated pneumonia (CP) increased significantly (13.4% to 31.8%) (p < 0.001); hospitalizations increased from 8 (5.5–15) to 12 (7–22) days (p < 0.001); and the frequency of PICU admission increased from 32.8% to 51.6% (p = 0.001). The use of ampicillin-sulbactam (0.7% to 24%) and ceftriaxone/clindamycin (0.7% to 5.7%) increased in the post-PCV10 period. The duration of empirical antibiotic treatment was 7 (4–11) days in the pre-PCV10 period and increased to 10 (6–17) days (p < 0.001) in the post-PCV10 period. Lethality showed a slight nonsignificant increase (7.5% vs. 9.9%; p = 0.57) in the post-PCV10 period. PCV10 significantly decreased cases of serotypes 1 and 14, with an increase in cases of serotypes 19A, 3 and 6A, which were the predominant serotypes and had greater severity (e.g., admission to the PICU, CP and more resistance, with an increase in the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics and longer hospitalization) and subsequently included in PCV13. Current data support national and regional evidence on the importance of replacing PCV10 with a higher valence that includes 19A, such as PCV13, with the aim of reducing circulation, particularly of this serotype. This paper describes the state-of-the-art of green airport infrastructure in Colombia. It is aimed at identifying opportunities for public-private investment in this type of projects which constitute a growing global trend in the air transport industry. The study provides an insight into the green airport infrastructure industry in Colombia based on available literature. The relation to green airport infrastructure projects and Public-Private Partnerships were also analysed. Mass media have a central role in electoral processes. In October 2015 local elections were held to select regional and local representatives and executive authorities in Colombia. The Mission for Electoral Observation (MOE) and a group of national universities made a monitoring excercise to the mainstream media coverage of elections. This article focuses on the news magazines of the two main television channels in Colombia with the highest rating and historic audience analyzing the agenda, social and political actors, and strategies of information construction seeking to raise some reflections about the role of the media in covering electoral processes in Colombia. The article shows two trends of this coverage. First, excessive centralism in the information coverage, and second, lack of transparency and informational balance, insofar as the media assume political and ideological agendas defending determined political positions and interests. Introduction: Obesity is the most prevalent non-communicable chronic disease. The increased prevalence of the disease is associated with early age, due to this, college students are an important group, which can be influenced by student welfare programs. Materials and Methods: A reflection article was prepared, which discusses the Colombian policies and strategies for the prevention of obesity and cardiovascular disease in this population. Results: Literature shows that there are critical points applicable in prevention of obesity and cardiovascular disease in the college community. These points include poor participation of academic institutions prevention, inadequate articulation of sectors involved to resolve deficiencies in the system and thus expect better outcomes in the community. Discussion: Despite the knowledge of strategies that promote physical activity in the student population and the general population, there is an articulated network between universities and the government to allow an impact in the prevention of cardiovascular disease and obesity. Participation of colleges (Welfare programs), students and leaders to promote and implement sustainable programs and policies over time is required. Conclusions: Despite the existence of laws and regulations governing the academic institutions in Colombia, there are no effective obesity prevention interventions. It should involve risk groups and adapt appropriate spaces for food and doing physical activity. Objective: To assess the putative association between 5 minutes Apgar score, neonatal seizures and neurodevelopmental delay (INFANIB test) performed at 1 year of corrected age. Design: Historic cohort. Setting: A first level hospital in Cali, Colombia (1989 to 1997); Subjects came from a low socioeconomic stratum population. Study subjects: A total of 287 infants who completed the 1 year follow up program were included. Interventions: not applicable Main outcome measures: Incidence (cumulative and density) of neuromotor abnormalities (abnormal INFANIB test) at 1 year of age. Results: Compliance with program visits was 80%. Thirty nine (13.6%) infants presented low 5 minutes Apgar score. Thirty six (12.5%) infants presented neonatal seizures, associated mainly with neonatal asphyxia and hypoglicemia. Forty seven infants had an abnormal INFANIB test (cumulative incidence 16.4% and incidence density 1.3 new cases per 100 infants-year). A significant association between neonatal seizures and an abnormal INFANIB was found (RR crude 2.39 IC 95% 1.37-4.16). Low 5 minutes Apgar score is not an effect modifier neither a confounder of the association between neonatal seizures and an abnormal INFANIB. Exploring the presence or absence of effect modification only bacterial meningitis, demonstrated a role as confounder for the association between seizures and INFANIB results. Conclusions: Both neonatal seizures and bacterial meningitis were independently associated with abnormal INFANIB results. Neonatal seizures are not only an important risk factor (adjusted RR = 2.51 IC 95% 1.10-5.72), but an easily identifiable one that can help the physician taking the medical history to identify patients at high risk for neuromotor abnormalities during the first year of life. The eating disorders exacerbate by various factors such as cultural influences, family habits and economic status, affect population groups such as Colombians adolescents and children occurring abnormalities in their patterns of growth and development and creates health complications and deterioration the quality of life. This is a public health problem, therefore it is vital to have clarity on how to approach the diagnosis and treatment in these patients because they are the social and economic future of the country and the world. The objective of this review of national and international literature is a practical approach regarding diagnosis and treatment of Eating Disorders, giving clear guidelines for handling and deepening in the psychotherapeutic approach, in order to minimize complications in the short and long term. It is important to remember that the health authorities are the best able to guide and provide this information to the affected population group and those who interact with them such as the education sector, the mass media, among others. Objectives: Analyze the presence of acute stress response after adverse events in human talent in Colombian health institutions from 2017 to 2021. Methods: Cross-sectional study of prevalence, carried out on 838 members of the human talent in health (professionals, technicians, technologists, and auxiliaries) of Colombian health institutions in the study period with the application of the EASE instrument. Univariate analysis using descriptive statistical techniques, chi-square and Student's t-test, and bivariate analysis with a Poisson regression model using the institucional SPSS v. 26. Results: The prevalence of adverse events in the last 5 years was 33.8%, presenting levels of acute stress qualifying as Medium-high emotional overload at 21.91%, while extreme acute stress was at 3.53%. The prevalence of risk for presenting acute stress after being involved in an adverse event was PR: 1.30 (CI: 1.24-1.36). Conclusion: Acute stress in human talent after adverse events is limiting health and care capacity and must be efficiently addressed by health institutions. Background: Pediatric kidney transplant patients have an increased risk of developing arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia, carbohydrate intolerance and diabetes mellitus, risk factors associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality., Objective: This study evaluates the frequency of arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia and alteration in carbohydrate metabolism in a cohort of pediatric kidney transplant patients during 2006-2016 at the Pablo Tobon Uribe Hospital, in Colombia., Material and Methods: Retrospective descriptive study in which descriptive statistics were used. Additionally, a bivariate analysis was performed to compare patients according to the outcome of arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia and alteration in carbohydrate metabolism., Results: From a total of 48 pediatric kidney transplants in the period studied, complete information was obtained from 43 patients at one year of follow-up. There was a post-transplant frequency of hypertension of 86%, dyslipidemia 48%, carbohydrate intolerance 14% and diabetes of 2%., Conclusions: In the evaluated cohort a high frequency of arterial hypertension and dyslipidemia was found after kidney transplantation.
