Unconscious and excessive consumption of natural resources, industrialization, deforestation, and similar factors lead to the threat of environmental sustainability at the global level. As environmental degradation is felt worldwide, it is known that countries take measures to slow down or stop environmental degradation. The fact that fossil fuels cause serious environmental damage has increased the interest in renewable energy sources, which are also defined as clean energy sources. It is observed that the research on, it is seen that research on the determinants of renewable energy consumption has also increased. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effect of financial development on renewable energy consumption in CIVETS countries. Within the framework of the aim of the study, annual data covering the period 1990 to 2019 is used from all the CIVETS countries such as Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkiye, and South Africa. Renewable energy consumption is used as the dependent variable, the Financial Development Index published by the IMF is used as the independent variable. In addition, independent variables such as foreign direct investment inflows and economic growth are also included in the study. The non-Additive Fixed Effect Panel Quantile method, developed by Powel (2016), is utilized in the study. As a result of the analysis, it was found that financial development negatively affects renewable energy consumption at all quantile levels in CIVETS countries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
