Gender difference in the textile industry especially in the Sales Department cannot be taken into consideration because the effort put in by both men and women as the sales associates are more or less the same. So there is a necessary to calculate metrics for performance evaluation which could be a better source of analysis for fixing wages and incentives, performance appraisals, etc. for sales associates where the job requirement is same for both men and women. An attempt is made in this article to identify and design a performance metric model for sales associates in textile store. This will help in evaluating the performance of these sales associates in a systematic manner which results in providing immense benefit to the high-performing women sales associates.A case study has been conducted in a retail Textile Store situated in Coimbatore. A qualitative data collection technique is followed to collect data. The Behavioural Event Interview has been conducted and the analysis was done. And appropriate performance metrics were identified. The performance metric model designed out of this case study should be valued by the owners who want to measure the performance level of the sales associates in sales counters. This helps the policymakers to make decisions based on these performance indicators and can provide trainings and development programs to enhance these performance indicators among the other sales associates to increase the effectiveness in their performance. It also leads to reduce gender bias in performance appraisal and benefits the highly performing women sales associates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
