Mobile health applications (mHealth apps) have surged in popularity for their role in promoting knowledge exchange and providing emotional support among health consumers. However, this enhanced social connectivity via these apps has led to an escalation in privacy breaches, potentially hindering user engagement. Drawing upon the communication privacy management theory, this study proposes a moderated mediation model to link social privacy concerns to user engagement in mHealth apps. An online survey involving 1149 mHealth app users was conducted in China to empirically validate the proposed model. Results indicated that social privacy concerns were negatively related to user engagement in mHealth apps, and perceived privacy of the app partially mediated this relationship. Moreover, perceived control positively moderated the indirect relationship between social privacy concerns and user engagement via perceived privacy. Specifically, the negative impact of social privacy concerns on perceived privacy was mitigated for users who reported higher levels of perceived control, indicating that when users feel more in control of their personal data, they are less affected by concerns over social privacy. Theoretically, this study has the potential to help scholars understand user engagement in mHealth apps from a privacy management perspective. Practically, the results of this study could assist mobile app providers and health professionals in devising evidence-based strategies to enhance social engagement and promote effective and sustainable use of mHealth apps among health consumers. In the age of digitalization, travel applications (or travel apps) are indispensable tools for modern travel activities. During an app's selection and adoption phases, privacy concerns remain a sensitive issue that may demotivate users' from continuing to use it. This study integrated both the stimulus-organism-response model (S-O-R) and psychological reaction theory (PRT) to explore the factors that influence users' app usage experiences and behavioral responses. A self-administered questionnaire was designed and distributed to Gen Y users in mainland China. The findings of PLS-SEM analysis showed that usage intentions are predicted by the ability of travel apps to engage with users and generate favorable values. Additionally, users with low privacy concerns were shown to have a stronger intention to recommend travel apps to others. In the realm of open innovation, users have emerged as a significant external source of innovation that enterprises cannot afford to overlook. Implemented ideas play a pivotal role in driving the iterative innovation of products within enterprises. However, the existing literature still lacks an exploration of specific impact mechanisms on contributions in idea implementation. This study presents a model that delineates the impact of user personality traits on idea implementation contributions, drawing upon theories such as personality trait theory, user engagement perspective, and trait activation theory. Empirical research was carried out by utilizing user data obtained from the Chinese high-tech company Xiaomi's MIUI community. Personality trait indicators were developed through the application of text mining and machine learning techniques. To evaluate the models, a negative binomial regression model, which is well-suited for handling discrete data, was employed. The findings of this study indicate that user openness and conscientiousness positively influence their idea implementation contribution, whereas neuroticism has a negative impact on implementation contribution. Additionally, it is observed that user engagement plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between openness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and idea implementation contribution. Community incentives can positively moderate the impact of user engagement on the relationship between conscientious personality and idea implementation contribution. This study expands the analysis of the impact mechanism of user idea implementation contributions, which has important theoretical guidance and practical implications for accurately identifying leading users in open innovation communities and enhancing user innovation contributions. Objective: This study aims to identify content variables that theoretical research suggests should be considered as strategic approaches to facilitate science communication with the public and to assess their practical effects on user engagement metrics. Methods: Data were collected from the official Chinese TikTok account (Douyin) of the Nutrition Research Institute of China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Corporation, China's largest state-owned food processing conglomerate. Dependent variables included likes, shares, comments, subscription increases. Independent variables encompassed explanation of jargon (metaphor, personification, science visualization), communication remarks (conclusion presence, recommendation presence), and content themes. Descriptive analysis and negative binomial regression were employed, with statistical significance set at 0.05. Results: First, subscription increases were positively associated with personification (p < 0.05, 0.024) and science visualization (p < 0.01, 0.000). Second, a positive relationship existed between comments and communicator recommendations (p < 0.01, 0.000), while presenting conclusions negatively correlated with shares (p < 0.05, 0.012). Conclusions: Different strategies yielded improvements in various engagement metrics. This can provide practical guidance for communicators, emphasizing the need to balance scholarly presentation with sustaining appealing statistics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the context of digitization, traditional journalism is facing transformation and innovation. Among them, the interactivity of visual graphics in data journalism is crucial for attracting and retaining online users, but few studies have examined public perceptions and attitudes toward it. In this study, we proposed a model to validate the relationship between users' perceived interactivity and their attitudes toward data journalism, and we included user affective and cognitive factors (enjoyment and engagement) related to this as possible mediating variables in the model for validation. We conducted experiments (n = 75) using data journalism containing map visualizations with three levels of interactivity (low, medium, and high) in China. Furthermore, an exploratory evaluation of the experimental group provided further insights into the differences in interactions between groups, and the emerging five key concepts of data journalism design. Overall, all our hypotheses are supported, with enjoyment and engagement mediating the relationship between perceived interactivity and users' attitudes toward the news. In addition, the experimental group with higher interaction potential also reported more positive attitudes toward journalism. Therefore, if data journalism and visualization designers want to attract and retain users in the future, enhancing user interaction on news pages will be a proven method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In spite of the common disadvantages, including user addiction and so on, the green online gaming system has a potential positive advantage to foster offline pro-environmental behavior through the special online experience. We developed a theoretical framework synthesizing motivation theory, flow theory, dual-system theory, and user engagement theory, aimed at exploring the mechanism between green gaming systems and actual pro-environmental behaviors. Based on the analysis of data from 364 participants utilizing Ant Forest across China, the results showed that motivations generated by using green online gaming systems indirectly promote pro-environmental behavior. The underlying psychological processes include the flow experience, social overload, and green engagement. Especially, user green engagement serves as a critical bridge linking virtual activities to real-world environmental behavior. Furthermore, perceived authenticity significantly facilitates the transition of online experiences into real-world pro-environmental behavior. With the consumption of user generated online contents content increasing rapidly, the short clip market in China is fast growing. TikTok, a leading short clip platform, has achieved great business success. However, there is not much research done on TikTok platform from the current customers' social and psychological viewpoints. Against this background, this study aims to verify the cognitive, emotional and behavioral pre-cursors of platform reuse decision by focusing on the platform's informational contents, users' network traits, user attachment, user engagement, psychological distance, and social identity. This way, this study extends the current understanding on the antecedent factors affecting users' behavioral intention of TikTok through broader perspectives including social and psychological predictors. During October 2021, an online questionnaire survey was administered in China. On the subject of TikTok platform. Firstly, the study found that both information characteristics and social network traits significantly affect the user engagement as well as attachment. Secondly, both the user attachment and engagement have a significant impact on reuse intention. Thirdly, the psychological distance plays a significant moderating role in the relationship between bridging network and attachment. Finally, the social identity significantly moderates the relationship between bridging network and user engagement. The study result is expected to add to the current literature which has not examined the antecedent factors affecting users' reuse intention of TikTok from broader aspects including social and psychological variables. Purpose – Using the HKUST Learning Commons as a case study, this paper seeks to reveal a number of insights on how to effectively engage different user groups within the university. Design/methodology/approach – The case study focuses on the user-group engagement process, highlighting the promotion plan and factors that enhance the user-group engagement. Findings – Two positive outcomes of the engagement were identified: the diversity of learning activities in the Learning Commons, and the elevated image of the library and librarians. Practical implications – The experience at HKUST reported in this paper highlights the need for libraries moving to the new "commons" service model to actively promote the facilities by engaging different user groups. The process itself is a necessary component to the success of the new service and facilities. Originality/value – The case study uses the user engagement framework to steer the promotion effort. The outcomes of the process have long-term implications for the image and identity of libraries, and subsequently enhance the library's potential in fund raising and resource allocation. Background: Cancer ranks among the most serious public health challenges worldwide. In China-the world's most populous country-about one-quarter of the population consists of people with cancer. Social media has become an important platform that the Chinese public uses to express opinions., Objective: We investigated cancer-related discussions on the Chinese social media platform Weibo (Sina Corporation) to identify cancer topics that generate the highest levels of user engagement., Methods: We conducted topic modeling and regression analyses to analyze and visualize cancer-related messages on Weibo and to examine the relationships between different cancer topics and user engagement (ie, the number of retweets, comments, and likes)., Results: Our results revealed that cancer communication on Weibo has generally focused on the following six topics: social support, cancer treatment, cancer prevention, women's cancers, smoking and skin cancer, and other topics. Background: Social media is currently becoming a new channel for information acquisition and exchange. In China, with the growing popularity of WeChat and WeChat official accounts (WOAs), health promotion agencies have an opportunity to use them for successful information distribution and diffusion online., Objective: We aimed to identify features of articles pushed by WOAs of Chinese provincial Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that are associated with user engagement., Methods: We searched and subscribed to 28 WOAs of provincial CDCs. Data for this study consisted of WeChat articles on these WOAs between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017. We developed a features frame containing title type, article content, article type, communication skills, number of marketing elements, and article length for each article and coded the data quantitatively using a coding scheme that assigned numeric values to article features. We examined the descriptive characteristics of articles for every WOA and generated descriptive statistics for six article features. The amount of reading and liking was converted into the level of reading and liking by the 75% position. Two-category univariate logistic regression and multivariable logistic regression were conducted to explore associations between the features of the articles and user engagement, operationalized as reading level and liking level., Results: All provincial CDC WOAs provided a total of 5976 articles in 2017. Shanghai CDC articles attracted the most user engagement, and Ningxia CDC articles attracted the least. For all articles, the median reading was 551.5 and the median liking was 10. Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that article content, article type, communication skills, number of marketing elements, and article length were associated with reading level and liking level. However, title type was only associated with liking level., Conclusions: How social media can be used to best achieve health information dissemination and public health outcomes is a topic of much discussion and study in the public health community. Given the lack of related studies based on WeChat or official accounts, we conducted this study and found that article content, article type, communication skills, number of marketing elements, article length, and title type were associated with user engagement.
