This study aims to analyze the prevalence trend of esophageal cancer in Japan and China to provide suggestions for the prevention and treatment of esophageal cancer. The results showed that the incidence rate for the years 2010–2018 significantly decreased with an APC of 5.66%, and the mortality rate from 2010 to 2015 had an APC of −5.87% in China. However, the incidence rate of Japanese women showed an upward trend, with an APC of 4.09% from 2010 to 2019. The mortality rate of esophageal cancer in Japan showed a downward trend, with an APC of −2.96% from 2010 to 2021. From 2010 to 2018, Chinese esophageal squamous cell carcinoma accounted for the highest proportion, accounting for 85.96%, with the largest distribution in the middle, accounting for 47.25%. Patients are mostly diagnosed at stage III, and the relative survival rate from 2012 to 2015 was 30.3%. Japan also has the highest proportion of squamous cell carcinoma, and the lesions are also mostly located in the middle segment. While Japanese esophageal cancer patients are mostly diagnosed at stage I, and the relative survival rate was 41.5% in Japan from 2009 to 2011. The results of this article indicate that the current prevalence of esophageal cancer in China and Japan is generally declining, and the quality of life of patients is gradually improving, but effective screening and prevention strategies are still needed to reduce the burden of this disease. Background: This study explored the significance of consolidation maintenance chemotherapy after concurrent chemoradiotherapy with different regimens in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Method: A prospective randomized controlled phase III clinical trial was designed and registered in the China Clinical Trials Registry (Registration number: ChiCTR‐TRC‐12002719). Survival data were analyzed in terms of intention‐to‐treat (ITT) and per‐protocol (PP) sets for patients undergoing cisplatin and 5‐fluorouracil (PF) (group A), or cisplatin and paclitaxel (TP) (group B). Results: The incidence risk of grade III–IV leukopenia in group B was higher than in group A (49.2% vs. 25.5%, p = 0.012). The survival rates at 1, 2, 3, and 5 years were 83.8%, 62.6%, 53.1%, and 41.3%, respectively. Consolidation chemotherapy after concurrent chemoradiation therapy had no benefit on median progression‐free survival (PFS) (p = 0.95) and overall survival (OS) (p = 0.809). According to the ITT analysis, the median PFS in group A and group B was 28.6 months and 30.3 months (X2 = 0.242, p = 0.623), while the median OS was 31.0 months and 50.3 months (X2 = 1.25，p = 0.263). For the PP analysis, the median PFS in group A and group B were 28.6 months and 30.3 months (p = 0.584), while the median OS was 31.0 months and 50.3 months (p = 0.259), respectively. Patients receiving consolidation chemotherapy did not show significant OS benefits (46.9 months vs. 38.3 months; X2 = 0.059, p = 0.866). Objective: Metaplastic breast carcinoma (MBC) is a special type of morphologically heterogeneous and aggressively invasive breast cancer. MBC is characterized by the transformation of tumor epithelium into squamous epithelium and/or mesenchymal components, including differentiation into spindle cells, chondrocytes, and osteocytes. Due to its rarity and invasiveness, there is a paucity of research on MBC prognosis. Furthermore, there are currently no treatment guidelines for MBC. This study analyzed the clinicopathological characteristics, immunophenotype, and prognostic features of MBC. Our aim was to better characterize MBC, thereby identifying potential prognostic factors and new treatment methods. Moreover, we also describe an MBC case treated experimentally with anti-vascular targeted therapy. Material and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed clinical pathological data on 54 female patients with MBC from Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital and the XiJing Hospital of Air Force Medical University. These cases were diagnosed with MBC between January 1st, 2013, and October 1st, 2018. All patients were from the northwest region of China. The gross morphological, histological, and immunohistochemical features of MBC were analyzed. Kaplan–Meier analysis was used to calculate the survival rate, and univariate analysis was performed to identify significant prognostic factors. In addition, the treatment of an MBC patient with anti-angiogenic therapy was described, and a relevant literature review was conducted. Results: MBC was diagnosed in 32 left breasts and 22 right breasts from 54 women aged 21–76 years (median age of 57 years). The maximum tumor diameter ranged from 0.6 to 14 cm (average of 4.1 cm). Of the 54 patients, 47 underwent surgical treatment, with lymph node metastasis found in 17.0% (8/47). According to the World Health Organization classification criteria for breast tumors, the study cohort consisted of 15 cases of squamous cell carcinoma, ten cases of spindle cell carcinoma, nine cases of carcinoma with associated stromal differentiation, 18 cases of mixed carcinoma, and two cases of adenocarcinoma with squamous differentiation. Based on the American Joint Committee on Cancer clinical staging criteria, the patients were classified as Stage I (10 cases, 18.5%), Stage II (26 cases, 48.1%), Stage III (11 cases, 20.4%), and Stage IV (7 cases, 13.0%). Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that 94.4% of patients had triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), 47 cases showed mutant tumor protein 53 (TP53) expression, 29 cases showed positive epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expression, 43 cases showed positive E-cadherin expression, and 37 cases showed positive Cluster of Differentiation 24 expression. The Ki-67 index ranged from 20% to 90%. Univariate analysis showed that the Ki-67 index was not significantly associated with either progression-free survival (PFS) or overall survival (OS) in MBC patients. Patients with negative axillary lymph nodes had significantly better PFS and OS than those with positive nodes (P < 0.05), and patients with clinical stage I-II disease had better PFS and OS than those with stage III-IV disease (P < 0.05). Patients treated with anthracycline-containing chemotherapy had significantly better PFS than those who did not receive chemotherapy. Univariate analysis revealed that the high expression of EGFR correlated with worse PFS (P < 0.05). The type of surgical approach employed did not affect the prognosis of MBC patients. Following the application of anti-angiogenic therapy, a rapid partial response was observed in an MBC patient with carcinoma and associated stromal differentiation. This patient subsequently underwent surgery and radiation therapy and has now achieved over 6 years of PFS. Conclusion: MBC is a heterogeneous group of tumors with high malignancy and poor prognosis. The large majority is TNBC and exhibits unique immune phenotypes. The poor PFS of MBC patients may be related to EGFR expression, which could become a potential therapeutic target in these patients. Surgery remains the primary treatment method for MBC. The present study found that sentinel lymph node biopsy was feasible in appropriate patients, and that chemotherapy regimens incorporating anthracycline-class drugs did not appear to improve OS. Anti-angiogenic therapy holds promise as a potentially effective treatment approach for MBC, and the optimization of systemic treatment strategies should be a priority in the management of these patients. Objectives: No study has reported secular trends in dementia prevalence, all-cause mortality, and survival status in rural China. Methods: We established two cohorts (XRRCC1 and XRRCC2) in the same region of China, 17 years apart, to compare dementia prevalence, all-cause mortality, and survival status, and performed regression analysis to identify associated factors. Results: Dementia prevalence was 3.49% in XRRCC1 and 4.25% in XRRCC2, with XRRCC2 showing a significantly higher prevalence (OR = 1.79, 95%CI: 1.2-2.65). Allcause mortality rates for dementia patients were 62.0% in XRRCC1 and 35.7% in XRRCC2. Mortality in the normal population of XRRCC2 decreased by 66% compared to XRRCC1, mainly due to improved survival rates in women with dementia. Dementia prevalence was positively associated with age >65, spouse-absent status, and stroke, and negatively associated with =6 years of education. Conclusion: Dementia prevalence in rural China increased over 17 years, while mortality decreased. INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence, clinical characteristics, and changing trends of non-smokers with lung cancer (LC) based on data from a population-wide cancer registry in northern China. METHODS The study used LC incidence and follow-up data from 2010 to 2019 from the Cancer Registry System of Tianjin city, which included 82769 cases. Trends in the incidence and proportion of non-smokers with LC were examined by joinpoint regression analysis. Life table and Cox survival analyses were used to calculate the survival rates and compare the death hazard ratios (HRs) in different groups, respectively. RESULTS Among the 82769 new diagnosis cases of LC during 2010 to 2019, there were 34589 (41.8%) current smokers, 14913 (18.0%) ex-smokers, 28123 (34.0%) non-smokers, and 5144 (6.2%) unknowns. The proportion of non-smokers changed slightly from 2010 (35.36%) to 2019 (36.87%) (annual percentage change, APC= -0.01%, p>0.05). This proportion declined in men (2010 vs 2019; 22.06% vs 20.66%) and increased in women (2010 vs 2019; 53.02% vs 62.35%), and in the 0--44 years age group it showed an upward trend from 2015 to 2019 (APC=4.82%, 95% CI: 1.8--7.9). Compared with smokers with LC, non-smokers with LC were predominantly females (64.15% vs 27.26%), had a predominantly adenocarcinoma histological subtypes (76.71% vs 42.22%), and had a 20% lower risk of death than smokers (HR=0.80; 95% CI: 0.78--0.81). CONCLUSIONS The proportion of non-smokers with LC was relatively high in northern China, with an increasing trend in the proportion of females and younger age groups. ) Objective To explore effective treatments and prognostic factors for diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). Methods Clinical and imaging information and survival data of 14 DIPG patients, treated with radiotherapy combined with temozolomide and nitolizumab or radiotherapy combined with ACT001, were retrospectively analysed at Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University from April 2021 to January 2024. The median progression free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were calculated using Kaplan - Meier survival curves, and multifactorial Cox regression analysis was used to investigate the effects of different factors on PFS and OS. Results The objective response rate (ORR) was 10/14, and the median PFS and OS were 7.83 and 8.30 months, respectively. Multfactorial Cox regression analysis identified the absence of enhancement on baseline imaging as a good prognostic variable for both PFS (RR = 0.052, 95%CI: 0.006-0.416; P = 0.005) and OS (RR = 0.046, 95%CI: 0.005-0.413; P = 0.006), while male (RR = 0.085, 95%CI: 0.009-0.764; P = 0.028), older age (RR = 0.631, 95%CI: 0.423-0.942; P = 0.024), and the absence of symptoms of cranial nerve involvement at the onset (RR = 0.116, 95%CI: 0.017- 0.781; P = 0.027) were also good prognostic variables for OS. Conclusions Female, younger age at diagnosis, cranial nerve involvement at the onset, and enhancement on baseline imaging are risk factors for the survival of children with DIPG. Neonatal acute liver failure (NALF), as a rare disease with high mortality, has limited relevant literature reports in China. We attempted to analyze a NALF cohort to improve the prognosis of this disease. We included all patients diagnosed with NALF at our institution between 2016 and 2021 and retrospectively reviewed their electronic records. NALF was defined as an INR ≥ 2.0 due to liver disease 28 days after birth. Comparisons were made according to etiology and outcome. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate survival. Fifty-eight patients were included in this study. Etiologies included hypoxic/ischemic injury (29.3%), infection (27.6%), gestational alloimmune liver disease with neonatal hemochromatosis (GALD-NH) (10.3%), inherited metabolic diseases (5.2%), hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (1.7%), other etiologies (12.1%), and unidentified causes (13.8%). Enteroviruses constituted 87.5% of the viral infections, whereas herpes simplex virus accounted for no infections. The median INR was significantly lower in the infection group than in the GALD-NH group (P < 0.05 for multiple comparisons). At the last follow-up, none of the patients had undergone liver transplantation, and the overall mortality rate was 50%. Liver function completely recovered in 31% of the patients, all of whom survived. The overall median survival time was 48 days; 26 days for hypoxic/ischemic injury and 43 days for GALD-NH. The incidence of cholestasis was significantly greater among surviving patients (P = 0.018). Conclusion: Hypoxic/ischemic injury and infection are the predominant etiologies of NALF in China. The overall prognosis of NALF is poor, but its short-term prognosis is determined by the etiology. The treatment process of tumors in surgical patients is typically prompt and efficient, whereas non-surgical patients are more prone to treatment delay due to various factors. However, the relationship between treatment delay and survival outcomes in non-surgical Esophageal cancer (EC) patients has received limited study. This study aims to evaluate the impact of waiting time from diagnose to treatment on survival outcomes among non-surgical EC patients in Shandong Province, China. Over a 20-year follow-up period, a total of 12,911 patients diagnosed with EC and not receiving surgical intervention were identified from 2000 to 2020. The Kaplan-Meier methodology was employed to determine overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to evaluate the impact of treatment delays on future outcomes. The nonlinear association between waiting time and survival outcomes was investigated using restricted cubic spline (RCS) functions. The average delay in initiating EC treatment from the initial medical consultation for symptoms of EC was 1.18 months (95%CI=1.16-1.20). Patients with a long delay (=3 months) in treatment demonstrated significantly lower rates of 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS and CSS compared to those with a brief delay in treatment initiation. A long delay in EC treatment independently associated with an increased risk of mortality from all causes and cancer. The association between waiting time and both all-cause and causespecific mortality illustrated a pronounced J-shaped pattern. The prolong delay in treatment initiation significantly impacts the OS and CSS outcomes for nonsurgical EC patients. Timely administration of treatment has the potential to enhance survival outcomes in patients with EC who are ineligible for surgery, including those in advanced stages without surgical options available. Background Few studies have assessed the comprehensive associations among comorbid diseases in elderly patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). This study sought to identify potential comorbidity patterns and explore the relationship of comorbidity patterns with the mortality risk in elderly patients with NPC. Methods A total of 452 elderly patients with NPC were enrolled in the study. The network analysis and latent class analysis were applied to mine comorbidity patterns. Propensity score matching was used for adjusting confounders. A restricted cubic spline model was used to analyze the nonlinear association between age and the risk of all-cause mortality. Results We identified 2 comorbidity patterns, metabolic disease-related comorbidity (MDRC) and organ disease-related comorbidity (ODRC) in elderly patients with NPC. Patients in MDRC showed a significantly higher risk of all-cause mortality (71.41% vs 87.97%, HR 1.819 [95% CI, 1.106-2.994], P  = .031) and locoregional relapse (68.73% vs 80.88%, HR 1.689 [95% CI, 1.055-2.704], P  = .042). Moreover, in patients with MDRC pattern, we observed an intriguing inverted S-shaped relationship between age and all-cause mortality among patients aged 68 years and older. The risk of mortality up perpetually with age increasing in ODRC group, specifically within the age range of 68-77 years (HR 4.371, 1.958-9.757). Conclusion Our study shed light on the potential comorbidity patterns in elderly patients with NPC, thereby providing valuable insights into the development of comprehensive health management strategies for this specific population. Background and objective Pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma (PSC) is a rare subtype of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), which is featured by low incidence, high malignancy rate, robust aggressive behavior and inferior prognosis. To date, there is no standardized treatment. The aim of this study is to better understand and accumulate more clinical experience of the disease by summarizing the clinicopathological features, diagnosis methods, therapeutic regimen and prognostic factors of PSC. Methods A total of 39 patients with PSC who diagnosed and received treatment in Beijing Chest Hospital from December 2013 to December 2023 were retrospectively recruited, and information including demographic characteristics, clinicopathological features, tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stage, diagnosis method and therapeutic regimen were carefully collected. Meanwhile, follow-up was conducted. Kaplan-Meier method was used to analyze the prognostic factors of the disease. Results The PSC patients in this study ranged in age from 45 to 76 years old, including 35 males and 4 females. There were no specific clinical manifestations of PSC at initial diagnosis. Among the 39 patients, 20 underwent surgical resection and 19 received palliative chemoradiation or symptomatic supportive treatment. The 1-year and 5-year survival rates were 61.90% and 35.20% respectively. Univariate analysis indicated that family history of carcinoma, primary tumor site, TNM stage, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, whether or not received surgical resection, surgical method, treatment regimens, tumor tissue programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression ≥1% and mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor (MET) pathway abnormalities were correlated with the overall survival (OS) of patients (P<0.05). In the subsequent multivariate analysis, lymph node metastasis emerged as the only independent prognosticator in predicting inferior OS (P=0.037). Conclusion PSC is rarely seen in clinical practice and commonly occurs in elder men with smoking history. Tumor tissue PD-L1 expression ≥1% and MET abnormalities may predict inferior prognosis of PSC and lymph node metastasis was determined as the independent prognosticator of PSC. Surgical resection along with adjuvant medical treatment is the cornerstone for early and locally advanced patients, and the clinical utility of molecular targeting therapy and immunotherapy in PSC needs to be further investigated. Necrophagous beetles are sometimes used to estimate the minimum postmortem interval (PMI min) in the decay and remains stages of a corpse. Among these, the Dermestidae is one of the most common groups used and therefore has important research and application value. In this study, the developmental events of Dermestes maculatus de Geer, 1774, were recorded at six constant temperatures, and isomorphen diagrams were established. The thermobiological parameters were estimated using linear and non-linear models, and morphological indicators such as larval body length were measured. The results showed that the developmental duration of the whole immature stage decreased from 66.13 ± 8.58 days at 19 °C to 21.9 ± 2.01 days at 34 °C. The survival rate of the immature stages, especially the egg stage, varies greatly with temperature, with the lowest survival observed at 34 °C and the highest at 22 °C. The lower developmental threshold, the intrinsic optimum temperature, and the upper lethal developmental threshold obtained by the curvilinear Optim SSI models were 15.28 °C, 28.36 °C, and 34.03 °C, respectively. The body length, head capsule width, and pronotum width showed obvious growth patterns with larval developmental duration, which were characterized by equations and isomegalen diagrams. Purpose: Anatomical structures and organ preservation concepts of the head and neck are important for patients with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (LA HNSCC). Neoadjuvant chemotherapy has been applied to improve organ preservation; however, pathological complete remission is still unsatisfactory. The purpose of this study was to explore the pathological complete response (pCR) rate and safety of immune checkpoint blockade combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in patients with LA HNSCC. Methods: Fifty-one patients participated in this retrospective study, and of these, 25 received NAC only (cisplatin+5-fluorouracil+nab-paclitaxel), and 26 received NAC (cisplatin+5-fluorouracil) plus pembrolizumab. Pathological complete remission, the objective response rate (ORR), delayed surgery and toxicity were compared between the two groups. Results: A significant difference was observed in the pCR rate and ORR between the NAC+ICB group and the NAC group. Delaying surgery and Grade 3 or 4 AEs occurred more frequently in the NAC group. In the NAC-only group, during a median follow-up period of 31.80 months, the recurrence-free survival (RFS) rate was 80.0%, the disease-free survival (DFS) rate was 80.0% and the overall survival (OS) rate was 88.0%. In the NAC+ICB group, during the median follow-up period of 22.99 months, the RFS rate was 96.2%, the DFS rate was 96.2% and the OS rate was 100%. Conclusion: The combination of pembrolizumab with NAC could improve the pathological response without increasing the risk of toxicity, which provides pathological evidence for the treatment of LA HNSCC patients with NAC+ICB. Background: No studies in China have assessed the guideline-concordance level of the first-course of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) diagnosis and treatment and its relationship with survival. This study comprehensively assesses the current status of guideline-concordant diagnosis (GCD) and guideline-concordant treatment (GCT) of NSCLC in China and explores its impact on survival. Methods: First course diagnosis and treatment data for NSCLC patients in Liaoning, China in 2017 and 2018 (n=1828) were used and classified by whether they underwent GCD and GCT according to Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) guidelines. Pearson’s chi-squared test was used to determine unadjusted associations between categorical variables of interest. Logistic models were constructed to identify variables associated with GCD and GCT. Kaplan–Meier analysis and log-rank tests were used to estimate and compare 3-year survival rates. Multivariate Cox proportional risk models were constructed to assess the risk of cancer mortality associated with guidelineconcordant diagnosis and treatment. Results: Of the 1828 patients we studied, 48.1% underwent GCD, and 70.1% underwent GCT. The proportions of patients who underwent both GCD and GCT, GCD alone, GCT alone and neither GCD nor GCT were 36.7%, 11.4%, 33.5% and 18.4%, respectively. Patients in advanced stage and non-oncology hospitals were significantly less likely to undergo GCD and GCT. Compared with those who underwent neither GCD nor GCT, patients who underwent both GCD and GCT, GCD alone and GCT alone had 35.2%, 26.7% and 35.7% higher 3-year survival rates; the adjusted lung cancer mortality risk significantly decreased by 29% (adjusted hazard ratio[aHR], 0.71; 95% CI, 0.53–0.95), 29% (aHR, 0.71; 95% CI, 0.50–1.00) and 32% (aHR, 0.68; 95% CI, 0.51–0.90). Conclusion: The 3-year risk of death is expected to be reduced by 29% if patients with NSCLC undergo both GCD and GCT. There is a need to establish an oncology diagnosis and treatment data management platform in China to monitor, evaluate, and promote the use of clinical practice guidelines in healthcare settings. Osmia solitary bees are important pollinators of various crops worldwide. Refrigeration has been widely used to synchronize the emergence time of Osmia species from cocoons with the blooming time of different crops, but the fitness of Osmia after refrigeration remains unknown. Here, the effects of long‐term refrigeration at 0 °C on the vitality, flight ability, and metabolism of Osmia excavata, which is known as the "king of pollination" in China, were studied. The survival rate (>90% before 120 d), weight loss rate (<15% after 170 d), and mean flight speed of O. excavata were not greatly affected after long‐term refrigeration. The content of fats, which have antifreeze and energy storage properties, was not significantly altered in O. excavata before 130 d of refrigeration, which might explain why the survival rates and flight speed of O. excavata remained high after long‐term refrigeration. However, the flight duration and distance decreased significantly (P < 0.05), and both were positively correlated with the reduced trehalose levels in O. excavata (r = [+0.69] – [+0.71]; P < 0.05). Overall, these findings indicate that the pollination potential of O. excavata for various crops with different flowering periods is high after long‐term refrigeration; however, long‐term refrigeration may decrease pollination efficiency. Background: This study aimed to compare postoperative complications in patients with esophagogastric variceal bleeding (EVB) who underwent laparoscopic splenectomy combined with pericardial devascularization (LSPD) versus transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) procedures. Methods: A retrospective collection of medical records was conducted from January 2014 to May 2020 at Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The study included patients from the departments of trauma surgery, interventional radiology, and general surgery who were diagnosed with EVB caused by portal hypertension and treated with LSPD or TIPS. Follow-up data were obtained to assess the occurrence of postoperative complications in both groups. Results: A total of 201 patients were included in the study, with 104 cases in the LSPD group and 97 cases in the TIPS group. There was no significant difference in the 1-year and 3-year post-surgery survival rates between the TIPS and LSPD groups (P = 0.669, 0.066). The 3-year survival rate of Child–Pugh B patients in the LSPD group was higher than TIPS group (P = 0.041). The LSPD group also had a significantly higher rate of freedom from rebleeding at 3-year post-surgery compared to the TIPS group (P = 0.038). Stratified analysis showed no statistically significant difference in the rebleeding rate between the two groups. Furthermore, the LSPD group had a higher rate of freedom from overt hepatic encephalopathy at 1-year and 3-year post-surgery compared to the TIPS group (P = 0.007, < 0.001). The LSPD group also had a lower rate of severe complications at 3-year post-surgery compared to the TIPS group (P = 0.020). Conclusion: Compared to TIPS, LSPD does not increase the risk of mortality and rebleeding, while demonstrating fewer complications. Objectives: We aimed to investigate bone metastasis induced by Notch signalling pathway dysregulation and to demonstrate that SPARC is a potential therapeutic target in adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) with Notch dysregulation. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 144 AdCC patients. RNA‐sequencing and enrichment analyses were performed using 32 AdCC samples. Osteonectin/SPARC and the Notch activation indicator Notch intracellular domain (NICD) were detected using immunohistochemistry. Cell proliferation and migration assays were conducted using stably NICD over‐expressing cells. The effect of SPARC on osteoclast differentiation in NICD cells was investigated using western blotting, quantitative reverse transcription PCR, tartrate‐resistant acid phosphatase staining and resorption assays. Results: RNA‐sequencing analysis showed that genes down‐regulated in Notch‐mutant AdCCs, such as SPARC, were enriched in ossification and osteoblast differentiation. Most (75/110, 68.2%) Notch1‐wild‐type AdCCs showed SPARC over‐expression, whereas 30 out of 34 (88.2%) Notch1‐mutant tumours showed low SPARC expression. SPARC over‐expression was then found negatively to be correlated with NICD expression in 144 AdCCs. NICD over‐expression promoted cell growth, migration and osteoclast differentiation, which could be partly reversed by exogenous SPARC. Conclusions: Notch activation in AdCC contributes to bone metastasis through SPARC inhibition. Objectives: To evaluate the association of SYN2, PPARG, RAF1, TIMP4, and IQSEC1 polymorphisms in 3p25 with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in the Chinese Han population. Subjects and Methods: Genomic DNA was extracted from 494 subjects with or without OSCC. Basic information on the subjects, clinical data, and prognoses were collected. Fifteen candidate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were selected and genotyped. The statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, logistic regression, survival, and functional annotation was performed. Results: IQSEC1‐rs2686742 correlated with OSCC occurrence. In addition, RAF1‐rs1051208, PPARG‐rs10865710, PPARG‐rs3856806, IQSEC1‐rs2686742, PPARG‐rs1175544, IQSEC1‐rs9211, and IQSEC1‐rs2600322 were significantly associated with the clinical characteristics of patients with OSCC. The log‐rank test showed that IQSEC1‐rs2600322 may play an important role in the survival of patients with OSCC. The Cox regression analysis suggested that PPARG‐rs10865710, PPARG‐rs7649970, IQSEC1‐rs9211, IQSEC1‐rs2600322, and IQSEC1‐rs12487715 influenced survival outcomes. The functional annotation indicated that the transcript levels of IQSEC1 were upregulated in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma tissues, whereas PPARG gene transcription was downregulated. Conclusions: IQSEC1‐rs2686742 may be closely associated with OSCC onset. Multiple SNPs in IQSEC1 and PPARG genes correlated with the clinical characteristics of OSCC, among which PPARG‐rs10865710, IQSEC1‐rs9211, and IQSEC1‐rs2600322 were associated with cancer prognosis. The Pearl River Delta (PRD) region on the southeast coast of China is among the largest and most populated metropolitan regions of the world, subjecting the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins (Sousa chinensis) inhabiting coastal waters of this region - apparently the largest population of this species - to intense anthropogenic pressure. In this 5-year study (2011-2015), we applied markrecapture techniques to quantify population parameters of humpback dolphins in the main body of the extensive estuarine system of the Pearl River, the Lingding Bay (LB), the most urbanized and industrialized part of PRD. The superpopulation size was estimated at 928 individuals (95% CI=823-1046), which however over-represents the latest number of extant animals. Annual estimates fluctuated between 708 and 750 dolphins, and likely reflect most accurately the latest/current number of humpback dolphins in waters of LB. Both the overall and annual estimates generated by our study are considerably lower than previously published abundance estimates. Apparent survival rates were generally low, estimated at 0.943 (SE = 0.008, 95% CI = 0.929-0.958) and 0.815 (SE = 0.025, 95% CI = 0.766-0.866) for adults and juveniles, respectively. In conjunction with limited recruitment, they may have led to a substantial decline in population numbers over the past two decades. Notably, dolphins exhibited heterogeneous apparent survival rates across the complex anthropogenic seascape of LB. Adult individuals that use Hong Kong waters as their primary habitat exhibited 6.2% higher survival rates than those in other parts of LB. This difference tripled (19.2%) for juveniles, a likely expression of their susceptibility to environmental and/or anthropogenic stresses. We suggest that the difference in survival is largely due to heterogeneous anthropogenic stressors that vary spatially across the estuary, among which habitat loss, pollution, and declining prey resources appear to be the primary threats. Based on our latest findings, we call for a strategic conservation planning with the highest priority given to preserve the remaining key dolphin habitats in Hong Kong waters, and to quantify and mitigate the impacts of major stressor(s) in Guangdong (mainland China) waters. Given the encroachment of ever-more-intense human activities on the coastal habitats of humpback dolphins, understanding their demographic response and the underlying mechanisms of the population processes may prove instrumental in the formulation of a conservation management strategy that can secure their continuous survival. Megalurothrips usitatus (Bagrall) is one of the most important pests of cowpea, Vigna unguiculata (Linn.) Walp in South China. Four Orius species, including Orius minutus (L.), Orius nagaii (Yasunaga), Orius sauteri (Poppius), and Orius strigicollis (Poppius), have been commercially produced and widely used as natural enemies of pests in China. In this study, we evaluated the control efficiency of these Orius species on M. usitatus in tropical Hainan Province, China, by recording the survival rates, developmental times, and predation effects in laboratory and semi-field conditions. Laboratory experiments showed that all these 4 Orius species preyed on M. usitatus under the experimental temperatures (25, 30, and 35 °C), and O. strigicollis exhibited the highest survival rate and predation effect. Semi-field cage experiments showed that the control effect of 4 Orius species on M. usitatus was significantly higher than that under normal chemical control, with O. strigicollis having the highest effect. Greenhouse experiments in Hainan Province, China, confirmed that O. strigicollis had a significant control effect on M. usitatus. Objective: To assess the effect of preoperative sarcopenia on the short-term and long-term outcomes in older patients with locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC). Methods: Clinicopathological data of older patients with LAGC who underwent radical surgery were retrospectively analyzed. Sarcopenia was defined as a skeletal muscle index of less than 36.4 cm2/m2 for men and less than 28.4 cm2/m2 for women. Comparing the postoperative complications and survival between sarcopenia and non-sarcopenia groups using multicenter data. Results: A total of 406 older patients with LAGC were included in the analysis, including 145 (35.7%) with sarcopenia and 261 (64.3%) with non-sarcopenia. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that sarcopenia was an independent risk factor for postoperative complications with CD grade ≥ II (OR 1.616; P < 0.05). Kaplan–Meier survival curve analysis showed that the 5-year overall survival (OS) and 5-year recurrence-free survival (RFS) in the sarcopenia group were lower than those in the non-sarcopenia group (P both < 0.05). Multivariate Cox regression analyses showed that sarcopenia was an independent prognostic factor for 5-year OS and RFS (P both < 0.05). The 5-year recurrence rate in the sarcopenia group was 57.2%, which was significantly higher than that in the non-sarcopenia group (46.4%; P = 0.036). Recurrence pattern analysis showed that the incidence of distant metastases in patients with sarcopenia (42.8%) was significantly higher than non-sarcopenia (31.4%; P = 0.022). Conclusion: Sarcopenia serves as a valuable predictor of both short-term and long-term outcomes in older patients with LAGC. Therefore, the significance of assessing preoperative nutritional status and implementing thorough postoperative follow-up for older LAGC patients with sarcopenia should be emphasized. Captive-breeding and release, also known as restocking, is widely used as the main response to the widespread decline of key migratory fish species around the world. However, it has been less effective, particularly in China. The "bigger-is-better" paradigm, which implies that releasing larger captive-bred individuals can achieve greater benefits, remains controversial internationally, but is taken for granted in China. Here, we propose a novel analytical framework to reveal the relationship between the movement patterns and en-route mortality of released fish that challenges the paradigm. We use the framework to analyze the migration dynamics behavior of subadult Chinese sturgeons released into the Yangtze River and show that the subadults exhibited passive drifting with the current, in contrast to the active behavior of the wild counterparts. We then classify the migration survivability of released individuals into three types (normal, abnormal, dead) and show that there was a state transition leading to death during migration, namely normal → abnormal → dead. We find that passive drifting of subadults is strongly associated with high mortality, and that the cumulative survival rate of released subadults decreases exponentially with migration distance, explaining the universal exponential law in rivers for global migratory fishes. We show that the daily mortality rate of released subadults was approximately 33 times higher than in situ conditions, with the mismatch between their life-history stage and the environment as the main cause of the paradigm failure. Gastrointestinal perforation in extremely low birth weight infants, characterized by its rapid onset, multiple complications, and critical condition, poses a significant risk of infant mortality. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics of pneumoperitoneum in extremely low birth weight infants (ELBWI) and explore the risk factors associated with gastrointestinal perforation in very low birth weight preterm infants. Additionally, we shared our surgical experiences in managing gastrointestinal perforation among extremely low birth weight infants. The Department of Neonatology at Chengdu Women and Children's Central Hospital conducted a retrospective study on gastrointestinal perforation in extremely low birth weight infants (birth weight <1000 g) who were admitted between 2014 and 2021. After baseline analysis and comparing it with the control group, we identified the risk factors associated with gastrointestinal perforation in ELBWI by multiple logistic regression analysis. The Kaplan-Meier analysis was performed to assess the adverse effect of gastrointestinal perforation for survival in ELBW infants. Cox multivariate regression analysis was used to evaluate hazard level of different variables for ELBW infants survival. Hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus (hsPDA)(p = 0.043, OR = 2.779) and sepsis (p = 0.014, OR = 2.265) were significant risk factors for gastrointestinal perforation in extremely low birth weight infants. The Cox proportional hazard model revealed that intraventricular hemorrhage (HR = 2.854, p＜0.001) Sepsis (HR = 1.645, p = 0.015) and gastrointestinal perforation (HR = 1.876, p = 0.008) had detrimental effects on the survival of extremely low birth weight infants; conversely, ibuprofen (HR = 0.304, p＜0.001) and blood transfusion (HR = 0.372, p＜0.001) are beneficial factors for their survival. The preoperative indicators of infection in infants with spontaneous intestinal perforation (SIP) were significantly better than those in the necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) group (p < 0.05). Gastrointestinal perforation poses a significant threat the survival of extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants, with hsPDA and sepsis serving as predisposing factors for gastrointestinal perforation. OBJECTIVES Stress-related glycemic indicators, including admission blood glucose (ABG), stress-hyperglycemia ratio (SHR), and glycemic gap (GG), have been associated with worse outcomes after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, data regarding their prognostic value in the oldest old with AMI are unavailable. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the association of stress-related glycemic indicators with short- and long-term cardiovascular mortality (CVM) in the oldest old (≥ 80 years) with AMI. METHODS In this prospective study, a total of 933 consecutive old patients with AMI admitted to FuWai hospital (Beijing, China) were enrolled. On admission, ABG, SHR, and GG were assessed and all participants were classified according to their quartiles. Kaplan-Meier, restricted cubic splines (RCS), and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to evaluate the association between these glycemic indicators and CVM within 30 days and long-term follow-up. RESULTS During an average of 1954 patient-years of follow-up, a total of 250 cardiovascular deaths were recorded. Kaplan-Meier analyses showed the lowest CVM in quartile 1 of ABG and in quartile 2 of SHR and GG. After adjusting for potential covariates, patients in quartile 4 of ABG, SHR, and GG had a respective 1.67-fold (95% CI: 1.03-2.69; P = 0.036), 1.80-fold (95% CI: 1.16-2.79; P = 0.009), and 1.78-fold (95% CI: 1.14-2.79; P = 0.011) higher risk of long-term CVM risk compared to those in the reference groups (quartile 1 of ABG and quartile 2 of SHR and GG). Furthermore, RCS suggested a J-shaped relationship of ABG and a U-shaped association of SHR and GG with long-term CVM. Additionally, we observed similar associations of these acute glycemic parameters with 30-day CVM. CONCLUSIONS Our data first indicated that SHR and GG consistently had a U-shaped association with both 30-day and long-term CVM among the oldest old with AMI, suggesting that they may be useful for risk stratification in this special population. The objective of the present study was to explore the effectiveness and safety of 'Sandwich treatment' strategy for large brain metastases (LBM) with diameter over 3 cm (minimum volume >= 15 cm3) located in motor area. Patients from four gamma knife center that received 'Sandwich treatment' were retrospectively studied from January 2016 to March 2023. The strategy was one-week treatment course including 2 stages of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and using bevacizumab once during SRS gap. The tumor volume and peri-tumor edema changes were analyzed before and after 'Sandwich treatment'. Manual muscle testing (MMT) score and Barthel Index (BI) score were used to evaluate the changes of patients' movement and physical strength rehabilitation. The patients' overall survival (OS) and tumor local control (TLC) rate was calculated. Cox regression model was used to analyze the risk factors that related to TLC. 61 patients with 72 lesions received the 'Sandwich treatment'. The median prescription dose was 13.0 Gy and 12.5 Gy at the first- and second-stage SRS. The mean tumor volume at the time of 'Sandwich treatment' and 3 months later was 20.1 cm3 and 12.3, respectively (P < 0.01). The mean peri-tumor edema volume at the first- and second-stage SRS was 12.6 cm3 and 5.2 cm3, respectively (P < 0.01). Patients' median MMT score improved from 6 at the beginning to 8 at the end of 'Sandwich treatment' (P < 0.01), BI score was also greatly improved from 45 at the time of 'Sandwich treatment' to 95 after 3 months (P < 0.01). Patients' median OS was 14.0 months, and the 3, 6, 12 months OS rate was 92.0%, 86.0% and 66.0%, respectively. The TLC rate at 3, 6, 12 months was 98.4%, 93.4%, and 85.3%, respectively. Patients with lung cancer had lower risk of tumor relapse. The cumulative incidence of patient's hemorrhage and radiation necrosis was 4.92% (3/61) and 13.11% (8/61) after 'Sandwich treatment'. 'Sandwich treatment' strategy is safe and effective for LBM located in motor area. The strategy could rapidly improve the patients' movement and enhance their physical strength rehabilitation. Purpose. This study was designed to review the primary sites, clinical manifestations, imaging features, treatments, and outcomes of 36 patients with orbital metastasis in North China. Methods. This was a retrospective review of 36 patients with orbital metastasis at Tianjin Eye Hospital between January 2010 and December 2020 in North China as well as a review of the literature. Results. Thirty-six patients were included in the study; 17 were male, and 19 were female, with an age range of 1–82 years (average 54.9 ± 19.8 years). All the tumours were unilateral. The mean duration from the onset of orbital signs to presentation at the hospital was 2.4 months (range 1–10 months). Breast carcinoma, gastrointestinal tract carcinoma, and lung carcinoma were the most common histological types. Proptosis, ocular pain, and diplopia were the most common clinical manifestations. The superior orbit was the most common quadrant involved. All patients received comprehensive therapy, including surgery, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy. The average follow-up time was 2.45 years (range 7 months to 5.5 years). Ten patients in this study died as a result of disseminated metastasis from the primary tumour. Conclusions. In North China, the most common primary cancer that metastasizes to the orbit is breast cancer, followed by gastrointestinal tract carcinoma and lung cancer. The increasing trend of orbital gastrointestinal tract metastases in North China in recent years is noteworthy. The survival rate of patients with orbital metastasis of neuroblastoma is low. The sterility advantages of triploids make them paramount for oyster aquaculture. Tetraploids are always used as male parents for triploid industrial breeding in current hatcheries, thus they are the core asset for triploid oyster culture. The oyster Crassostrea angulata is the most productive oyster species in China. However, the optimal conditions for tetraploid induction have never been examined. In this study, we investigated the effectiveness of three induction methods (Method I, 2n ♀ × 2n ♂ + inducer abbreviated as DD + ind; Method II, 3n ♀ × 2n ♂ + inducer abbreviated as TrD + ind; Method III, 2n ♀ × 4n ♂ + inducer abbreviated as DT + ind) and three inducers (salinity; cytochalasin B, CB; and 6-dimethylaminopurine, 6-DMAP) for tetraploid induction in C. angulata. The optimal induction conditions for the three induction methods were a CB concentration of 0.5 mg/L treated for 20 min, 0.75 mg/L CB for a constant induction treatment of 20 min and 6-DMAP at a concentration of 100 mg/L for 20 min, respectively. When the optimal induction conditions were applied to a single pair of oysters, the D-larval tetraploid rate for the three methods were 18.93 ± 1.46%, 58.32 ± 1.03% and 51.61 ± 1.37%, respectively. After 30 days, the survival rates of the experimental groups were only 10.36 ± 2.51%, 28.07 ± 2.03% and 21.99 ± 1.27%, respectively, at day 30. The tetraploid rates in DD + ind and DT + ind were both decreased significantly over time, but they still reached 11.81% and 21.99% at 30 days, and 8% and 16% at day 180, respectively. Tetraploid rates in TrD + ind were 58.32 − 71.28% at the larval stage and 80% at day 180. In summary, despite very different induction rates, surviving tetraploids of C. angulata could be obtained in all three methods. Method II (TrD + inducer) was regarded as the optimal method to induce C. angulata tetraploids, and the optimal induction condition was a CB concentration of 0.75 mg/L and treated for 20 min under this method. A key aspect of selective breeding programs is whether the traits of interest respond similarly in different environments. The magnitude of the genotype by environment (G × E) interaction and heritability are responsible for this aspect. Commercial hatcheries in northern China supply batches of seed to oyster farmers each year, which are cultivated in a wide range of growing sites. However, the extent to which G × E interactions affect the ability to identify quality oyster lines has not been measured. Therefore, the objective of this study was to estimate the genetic parameters and G × E interactions for harvest traits in C. gigas cultured in northern China. Oysters from 40 mostly full-sib families (the offspring of 36 sires and 40 dams) were tested at three major commercial cultivation sites: Rushan, Hungdao and Rongchceng. We recorded shell height (SH), shell length (SL), shell width (SW), individual weight (IW), survival rate (SR), wet meat weight (WMW), meat ratio (MR) and shell shape (SS) at harvest. Compared with control line, selected line exhibited high superiority in survival rate at three sites. Heritability estimates for the harvest traits were low to high across different sites (0.55–0.75 for SH, 0.25–0.49 for SL, 0.20–0.33 for SW, 0.37–0.71 for IW, 0.10–0.12 for SR, 0.40–0.52 for WMW, 0.14–0.34 for MR and 0.18–0.30 for SS). Genetic correlations among growth traits were medium to high and positive, ranging between 0.52 ± 0.15 (between SH and SW at Huangdao) to 0.90 ± 0.04 (between SH and IW at Rongcheng). Nevertheless, we found significantly negative genetic correlations between growth traits and shell shape, an index that takes into account growth traits and shell shape should be developed to improve both simultaneously. Since it is not possible to disentangle this result from the correlation that mathematically determined alone, this result requires further study. Notably, genetic correlations between growth traits and survival were low, ranging from − 0.31 ± 0.17 (between SL and SS at Huangdao) to 0.14 ± 0.19 (between SW and SS at Rongcheng). G × E interactions were estimated as genetic correlations between the same trait measured on different oysters at three sites. Moderate G × E interactions were found for growth traits (0.45–0.87), meat yield traits (0.40–0.73) and shell shape (0.22–0.69), and weak G × E interaction was found for survival at harvest (0.80–0.86). This study reveals the presence of weak to high re-ranking of genotypes for harvest traits in C. gigas cultured in different commercial sites, suggesting that G × E interactions should be considered in oyster breeding program servicing multiple sites. Purpose: Early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) through surveillance could reduce this cancer-associated mortality. We aimed to develop and validate algorithms using panel serum biomarkers to identify HCC in a real-world multi-center study in China. Patients and Methods: A total of 10,359 eligible subjects, including HCCs and benign liver diseases (BLDs), were recruited from six Chinese medical centers. The three nomograms were built using logistic regression and their sensitivities and specificities were carefully assessed in training and validation cohorts. HCC patients after surgical resection were followed to determine the prognostic values of these algorithms. Prospective surveillance performance was assessed in a cohort of chronic hepatitis B patients during 144 weeks follow-up. Results: Independent risk factors such as alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), lens cuinaris agglutinin-reactive fraction of AFP (AFP-L3), des-gamma-carboxy prothrombin (DCP), albumin (ALB), and total bilirubin (TBIL) obtained from train cohort were used to construct three nomograms (LAD, C-GALAD, and TAGALAD) using logistic regression. In the training and two validation cohorts, their AUCs were all over 0.900, and the higher AUCs appeared in TAGALAD and C-GALAD. Furthermore, the three nomograms could effectively stratify HCC into two groups with different survival and recurrence outcomes in follow-up validation. Notably, TAGALAD could predict HCC up to 48 weeks (AUC: 0.984) and 24 weeks (AUC: 0.900) before clinical diagnosis. Conclusion: The proposed nomograms generated from real-world Chinese populations are effective and easy-to use for HCC surveillance, diagnosis, as well as prognostic evaluation in various clinical scenarios based on data feasibility. Purpose: The 5-year cancer survival rate among Chinese patients is lower than that among patients in developed countries and varies widely across geographic regions. The aim of this study was to analyse the 5-year relative cancer survival rate in southeastern China, between 2011 and 2021. Patients and Methods: We utilised population-based statistics from 12 cancer registries in Fujian, China. Study population data were up to date as of Dec 31, 2019, and survival outcome status was updated as of Dec 31, 2021. We used the ICD-10 and the ICD-O-3 to categorize all cancer cases. We analysed the 5-year relative survival for cancers combined and different cancer types stratified by sex, urban and rural areas, and age. Survival estimates were stratified according to calendar period (2011– 13, 2014– 15, 2016– 18 and 2019– 21). Results: Ultimately, a total of 160,294 cancer patients were enrolled in the study. In 2011– 13, 2014– 15, 2016– 18 and 2019– 21, the age-standardised 5-year relative survival for cancers combined were 29.1% (95% CI: 28.6– 29.7), 31.5% (95% CI: 31.0– 32.0), 36.8% (95% CI: 36.4– 37.3) and 39.1% (95% CI: 38.7– 39.6), respectively. The age-standardised 5-year relative survival for lung, prostate, larynx, colon-rectum, kidney and bone cancers increased 4.3%, 4.0%, 3.8%, 3.4%, 3.4% and 2.70%, respectively. Cancers with high 5-year relative survival rates (> 60%) in 2019– 21 included thyroid, testis, breast, bladder, cervix, prostate and uterus cancers. The 5-year survival rates in 2019– 2021 was higher for females than for males (47.8% vs 32.0%) and higher in urban areas than in rural areas (41.7% vs 37.1%). Relative survival rates decreased with increasing age. Conclusion: The 5-year cancer survival in Fujian Province increased between 2011 and 2021 but remained at a low level. Background: Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging zoonosis with a high fatality rate in China. Previous studies have reported that dysregulated inflammatory response is associated with disease pathogenesis and mortality in patients with SFTS. This investigation aimed to evaluate the prevalence and characteristics of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), and its impact on prognosis. Methods: Data on demographic characteristics, comorbid conditions, clinical manifestations, laboratory parameters, and survival time of patients with SFTS were collected. Patients were divided into the non-SIRS and SIRS groups according to the presence of SIRS, then their clinical data were compared. Results: A total of 290 patients diagnosed with SFTS were retrospectively enrolled, including 126(43.4%) patients with SIRS. Patients in the non-survivor group had more prevalence of SIRS than patients in the survivor group (P < 0.001), and SIRS (adjusted OR 2.885, 95% CI 1.226–6.786; P = 0.005) was shown as an independent risk factor for prognosis of patients with SFTS. Compared with patients without SIRS, patients with SIRS had lower WBC and neutrophils counts, and fibrinogen levels, but higher AST, LDH, amylase, lipase, CK, CK-MB, troponin I, APTT, thrombin time, D-dimer, CRP, IL-6, SAA levels, and viral load. The cumulative survival rate of patients with SIRS was significantly lower than that of patients without SIRS. Patients with SIRS also showed a higher incidence of bacterial or fungal infections than patients without SIRS. Introduction: This meta-analysis aims to provide evidence-based medical evidence for formulating rational treatment strategies and evaluating the prognosis of brain metastasis (BM) patients by assessing the effectiveness of the graded prognostic assessment (GPA) model in predicting the survival prognosis of patients with BM after whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT). Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in multiple databases, including the China Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), PubMed, Wanfang database, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Embase. Cohort studies that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected. The quality of the included literature was evaluated using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, and all statistical analyses were performed with R version 4.2.2. The effect size (ES) was measured by the hazard ratio (HR) of overall survival (OS). The OS rates at 3, 6, 12, and 24 months of patients with BM were compared between those with GPAs of 1.5-2.5, 3.0, and 3.5-4.0 and those with GPAs of 0-1 after WBRT. Results: A total of 1,797 participants who underwent WBRT were included in this study. The meta-analysis revealed a significant association between GPA and OS rates after WBRT: compared with BM patients with GPA of 0-1, 3-month OS rates after WBRT were significantly higher in BM patients with GPA of 1.5-2.5 (HR = 0.48; 95% CI: 0.40-0.59), GPA of 3 (HR = 0.38; 95% CI: 0.25-0.57), and GPA of 3.5-4 (HR = 0.28; 95% CI: 0.15-0.52); 6-month OS rates after WBRT were significantly higher in BM patients with GPA of 1.5-2.5 (HR = 0.48; 95% CI: 0.41-0.56), GPA of 3 (HR = 0.33; 95% CI: 0.24-0.45), and GPA of 3.5-4 (HR = 0.24; 95% CI: 0.16-0.35); 12-month OS rates after WBRT were significantly higher in BM patients with GPA of 1.5-2.5 (HR = 0.49; 95% CI: 0.41-0.58), GPA of 3 (HR = 0.48; 95% CI: 0.32-0.73), and GPA of 3.5-4 (HR = 0.31; 95% CI: 0.12-0.79); and 24-month OS rates after WBRT were significantly higher in BM patients with GPA of 1.5-2.5 (HR = 0.49; 95% CI: 0.42-0.58), GPA of 3 (HR = 0.49; 95% CI: 0.32-0.74), and GPA of 3.5-4 (HR = 0.38; 95% CI: 0.15-0.94). Introduction: Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) represents a fibroblastic neoplasm exhibiting NAB2::STAT6 gene rearrangement, displaying diverse clinical manifestations, spanning from benign to malignant. To predict prognosis, the modified (four-variable) Demicco (mDemicco) model was introduced. This investigation aims to authenticate the mDemicco risk model's precision in Asian patients while investigating the clinicopathological and molecular factors linked to the prognosis of extrameningeal SFTs. Methods: Clinicopathological data from 111 extrameningeal SFT cases in East China, covering the period from 2010 to 2020, were thoroughly analyzed. The tumors were classified using the mDemicco model . Immunohistochemical evaluation of P16 and P53, molecular detection of TP53 and TERT promoter mutation, and fluorescence in situ hybridization for CDKN2A gene alterations were performed. Statistical methods were utilized to assess the associations between clinicopathological or molecular factors and prognosis. Results: Histologically, only one parameter, the mitotic count, exhibited a statistical correlation with progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). During the Kaplan-Meier analysis, the variation in PFS among the different risk groups exhibited a notable trend towards statistical significance. Nevertheless, 3 out of 74 patients classified as low-risk SFTs and 7 out of 21 patients classified as intermediate-risk exhibited disease progression. Among the 5 patients with TP53 mutations and/or mutant-type P53 immunophenotype, 3 experienced disease progression, including 2 intermediate-risk patients. Additionally, among the 4 patients with TERT promoter mutations who were followed up, 3 showed progression, including 2 intermediate-risk patients. Moreover, it was observed that hemizygous loss of CDKN2A was detected in more than 30% of one case, yet the patient exhibited a favorable survival outcome. Conclusion: The mDemicco risk model exhibits certain limitations when dealing with smaller tumor sizes, younger age groups, and occurrences of malignant and dedifferentiated SFTs. Background: To explore the application value of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in patients with incomplete cytoreduction for appendiceal pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP). Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 526 patients with incomplete cytoreduction for appendiceal PMP to discover its prognostic factors, and the therapeutic value of HIPEC. Results: The 5-year and 10-year overall survival rates of patients after cytoreductive surgery (CRS) treated with HIPEC were significantly higher than those without HIPEC (5y-OS: 58% vs. 48%, 10y-OS: 37% vs. 16%, P = 0.032). The median progression-free survival (PFS) following CRS was 20 months, with a 20% 3-year PFS. The median PFS following CRS + HIPEC was 33 months, with a 60% 3-year PFS (P = 0.000). Univariate analysis indicated that HIPEC, gender, completeness of cytoreduction (CCR) and pathological grade had statistical difference. Multivariate analysis showed that CRS without HIPEC and high pathological grade were independent risk factors for poor prognosis and rapid tumor progression. Conclusions: HIPEC may prolong the survival in patients with incomplete cytoreduction for low-grade appendiceal PMP. High pathological grade indicates poor survival and rapid tumor progression. Purpose: Our study aims to delineate the epidemiological distribution of pulmonary carcinoids, including atypical carcinoid (AC) and typical carcinoid (TC), identify independent prognostic factors, develop an integrative nomogram and examine the effects of various surgical modalities on atypical carcinoid-specific survival (ACSS). Methods: Joinpoint regression model and age-group distribution diagram were applied to determine the epidemiological trend of the pulmonary carcinoids. Univariate and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO)-based Cox regression models were used to identify independent factors, and a nomogram and web-based predictor were developed to evaluate prognosis of AC patients individually. We performed Kaplan–Meier survival analyses to compare the scope of various surgical interventions, with and without G-computation adjustment, utilising restricted mean survival time (RMST) to assess survival disparities. Results: A total of 1132 patients were recruited from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database (SEER) and a separate medical centre in China. The mean age of AC patients was 63.4years and a smoking history was identified in 79.8% of AC patients. Joinpoint analysis shows rising annual rates of new AC and carcinoid cases among lung cancers. Both the proportion of pulmonary TC and AC within the total lung cancer population exhibits an L-shaped trend across successive age groups. The nomogram predicted 1, 3 and 5 years of AC with excellent accuracy and discrimination. Kaplan–Meier survival analyses, conducted both pre- and post-adjustment, demonstrated that sublobar resection's survival outcomes were not inferior to those of lobectomy in patients with stage I-II and stage III disease. Conclusion: This study is the first to reveal epidemiological trends in pulmonary carcinoids over the past decade and across various age cohorts. Background: Epilepsy is associated with a significant global burden of disease, affecting over 50 million people worldwide. The specific aim of this study is to compare the burden of epilepsy in the People's Republic of China (PRC) with the global burden, and to analyze the epidemiological trends of epilepsy, the relationship between the burden of epilepsy and social demographic index (SDI), and the relative contributions of epidemiological factors. Methods: This is a retrospective population-based study, data were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study in 2019. We employed Joinpoint software and the age-period-cohort (APC) model to analyze epilepsy's epidemiological trends. Health inequality analysis was conducted to investigate the impact of SDI on epilepsy burden. Decomposition analysis was performed to examine the relative contributions of age, population, and epidemiological changes to epilepsy. Results: Between 1990 and 2019, the incidence rate in the PRC increased by 45%, significantly surpassing the global incidence of epilepsy. However, Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALY) decreased notably, and the proportion of Years of Life Lost (YLL) decreased from 62.73 to 39.03%. Concerning incidence, the period Rate Ratio (RR) in the PRC initially increased and then decreased, while the cohort RR in the PRC and globally exhibited a consistent upward trend. In terms of mortality, period RR and cohort RR in the PRC displayed a gradual decrease, with mortality starting higher but eventually falling below the global mortality. The net drifts of incidence were greater than 0, whereas the net drifts of mortality were less than 0, both were lower in the PRC than at the global level. Decomposition analysis indicated that the changes of incidence and mortality in the PRC were mainly attributed to epidemiological changes. Additionally, global disparities in epilepsy decreased, with the burden concentrating in low SDI countries. Conclusion: The incidence of epilepsy in the PRC rose during the 30-year study period, while epilepsy mortality decreased. The improved survival rate in the PRC is predominantly attributable to epidemiological changes. Background: In the era of immunotherapy, the optimal combination of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is not defined. The current study investigated the efficacy and safety of definitive CRT(dCRT) plus consolidation ICIs with or without induction ICIs in stage III NSCLC. Methods: 123 consecutive patients treated with dCRT followed by consolidation ICIs at our institution from 2018 to 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. Failure patterns, survival outcomes, and toxicity profiles were analyzed. Results: The 1- and 2- year PFS rates were 75.3% and 56.9%, respectively, and median PFS was 30.83 months from the start of treatment. In-field failure (18.7%) was the most common failure pattern. The most common adverse event (AE) was pneumonitis caused by ICIs or RT. The incidence of Grade 3-4 and Grade 5 pneumonitis was 5.7% and 1.6%, respectively. Further analysis showed that the induction plus consolidation ICIs group has significantly lower cumulative incidence of distant metastasis rates (HR: 0.30, 95%CI: 0.09-1.00, p=0.043) and higher incidence of pneumonitis (p=0.039) compared with patients in the consolidation ICIs group.Conclusions: Combined CRT and consolidation ICIs achieved encouraging efficacy and manageable toxicity in patients with stage III NSCLC in China. Background: Evidence regarding the characteristics and prognosis of neuroblastoma (NBL) in China is limited. We aimed to investigate the characteristics and prognosis of intermediate- or high-risk NBL in children in China. Methods: We included 147 patients with intermediate- or high-risk NBL evaluated from January 2006 to March 2015. The patients were aged 1 month to 15.5 years, 66% of them were boys, and 117 (79.6%) were diagnosed with high-risk NBL. Results: After a median follow-up of 32.5 months, 80 (45.6%) patients survived, with a median survival time of 48 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 36.41–59.59). High-risk patients (hazard ratio [HR]: 12.467; 95% CI: 11.029–12.951), partial response (PR) (HR: 1.200; 95% CI: 1.475–2.509) or progression disease (PD) (HR: 1.924; 95% CI: 1.623–3.012) after induction chemotherapy, and intracranial metastasis (HR: 3.057; 95% CI: 0.941–4.892) were independent risk factors for survival (p < 0.05) and postrelapse survival (p < 0.05). NBL relapse, male sex, and PR or PD after induction chemotherapy were risk factors for event-free survival (p < 0.05). Conclusions: In addition to previously established independent risk factors, such as age, risk group, and relapse, efficacy of induction chemotherapy and intracranial metastasis play significant roles in the prognosis of NBL. Background: Estrogen receptor-positive and progesterone receptor-negative (ER + /PR-) breast cancer comprise a special type. More than 10% breast cancer patients belonged to ER + /PR-. Methods: In order to better understand this patient population, we utilized a unique dataset from China, examining the clinicopathological features and genomic profiles of ER + /PR- breast cancers. Our study involved three cohorts: Cohort 1 included 2120 unselected ER-positive female patients with re-evaluated clinicopathological and survival data; Cohort 2 comprised 442 ER-positive females who underwent genetic testing; and Cohort 3 consisted of 77 ER-positive/HER2-negative females tested with MammaPrint and BluePrint. Results: Patients were stratified into four categories based on the PR/ER ratio. Clinically, ER + /PR- tumors (PR/ER ratio = 0) showed the lowest proportion of T1 tumors (10.88%) and highest proportion of HER2-positive tumors (28.36%) than did other ER + /PR + tumors groups. The ER + /PR- group contained a higher number of underweight patients (20.20%). Independently of HER2 status, ER + /PR- patients demonstrated the poorest prognosis. Genomically, the most prevalent mutations were PIK3CA (50%) in ER + /PR + tumors and TP53 (65%) in ER + /PR- tumors. ER + /PR- tumors presented more frequent mutations in TP53, ERBB2, CDK12, SPEN, and NEB, with mutation rates of 65%, 42%, 27%, 13%, and 10%, respectively. Additionally, the Tumor Mutational Burden (TMB) was higher in the ER + /PR- group compared to the ER + /PR + group. The MammaPrint score for the ER + /PR-/HER2- group was significantly lower than that of other groups. In the BluePrint analysis, only four patients were classified as Basal-Type, all of whom were ER + /PR-/HER2-. Conclusions: In this study, we identified the clinical and genetic characteristics of ER + /PR- breast cancer patients in China. Distinct PR statuses indicated different biological processes of ER + breast cancer and survival outcomes. Future treatment strategies may need to be tailored for ER + /PR- patients. Objective: The aim of the study was to compare the prognostic prediction performances of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC)/Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) 8th staging system and the Japan Esophageal Society (JES) 11th staging system for patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who underwent radical (chemo) radiotherapy. Methods: In total, 574 patients were enrolled and categorized according to the tumor, node metastasis (TNM) AJCC/UICC 8th and JES 11th editions. Survival rates and disease-free survival were computed using the Kaplan–Meier technique. The log-rank test was used for survival difference analysis. Results: (1) The 8th AJCC/UICC N staging exhibited significant stratification for overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). JES 11th showed significant OS stratification, but PFS was not well-stratified for N2–N4. (2) Both staging systems demonstrated significant stratification for OS and PFS. (3) AJCC/UICC 8th TNM staging yielded significantly well-stratified OS and PFS in the differing staging group. JES 11th failed to stratify OS and PFS for stages III and IVA. (4) AJCC/UICC 8th TNM stratified OS and PFS significantly well for lower and middle region tumors, whereas JES 11th inadequately stratified stages III and IVA. (5) Significant multivariable analysis results indicated that AJCC/UICC 8th independently predicted poor OS and PFS. Conclusions: In Chinese patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who underwent radical (chemo) radiotherapy, the AJCC/ UICC 8th edition exhibited superior prognostic prediction capabilities compared with the JES 11th edition. Inherited bacterial symbionts are very common in arthropods, but infection frequency can vary widely among populations. Experiments and interpopulation comparisons suggest that host genetic background might be important in explaining this variation. Our extensive field investigation showed that the infection pattern of the facultative symbiont Cardinium was heterogeneous across geographical populations of the invasive whitefly Bemisia tabaci Mediterranean (MED) in China, with genetic nuclear differences evident in 2 of the populations: 1 with a low infection rate (SD line) and 1 with a high infection rate (HaN line). However, whether the heterogeneous frequency of Cardinium is associated with the host genetic background remains poorly understood. Here, we compared the fitness of the Cardinium‐infected and uninfected sublines with similar nuclear genetic backgrounds from SD and HaN lines, respectively, and further determine whether host extranuclear or nuclear genotype influenced the Cardinium–host phenotype by performing 2 new introgression series of 6 generations between SD and HaN lines (i.e., Cardinium‐infected females of SD were backcrossed with uninfected males of HaN, and vice versa). The results showed that Cardinium provides marginal fitness benefits in the SD line, whereas Cardinium provides strong fitness benefits in the HaN line. Further, both Cardinium and the Cardinium–host nuclear interaction influence the fecundity and pre‐adult survival rate of B. tabaci, whereas the extranuclear genotype does not. In conclusion, our results provide evidence that Cardinium‐mediated fitness effects were closely associated with the host genetic background, which provides a fundamental basis for understanding the mechanism underlying the heterogeneous distribution of Cardinium in B. tabaci MED populations across China. Objectives: To evaluate the effects of the alveolar ridge split (ARS) technique on gained horizontal width of the alveolar ridge and implant survival rate. Materials and methods: Electronic searching was performed in six electronic databases (Pubmed, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and SIGLE) from January 1, 2010, to November 1, 2023. Two authors performed study selection, data extraction, and study qualities (ROBINS-I and RoB 2.0) independently. Meta-analysis was performed by Comprehensive meta-analysis 3.0. Results: 24 included studies were observational, and 1 study was a randomized controlled trial (RCT). 14 studies investigated the gained width of the horizontal alveolar ridge, and 17 examined the implants' survival rate. For assessment of risk of bias, nine studies were high risk of bias and 16 studies were moderate risk of bias. Meta-analysis demonstrated that the pooled gained alveolar ridge width was 3.348 mm (95%CI: 4.163 mm, 2.533 mm), and the implant survival rate was 98.1% (95%CI: 98.9%, 96.9%). Seven studies showed seven different complications including exposure, infection, bad split, dehiscence, fracture, paresthesia and soft tissue retraction. Conclusion: Recent ARS technique seems to be an effective method of bone augmentation with enough gained width and a high implant survival rate. Further long-term and RCTs research remains needed to enhance the study quality. Clinical relevance: The ARS technique could generate sufficient bone volume, and implants had a high-level survival rate. Background: Previous researches have demonstrated that adaptive replanning during intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) could enhance the prognosis of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). However, the delineation of replanning target volumes remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of reducing target volumes through adaptive replanning during IMRT by analyzing long-term survival outcomes and failure patterns of locoregional recurrence in NPC. Methods: This study enrolled consecutive NPC patients who received IMRT at our hospital between August 2011 and April 2018. Patients with initially diagnosed, histologically verified, non-metastatic nasopharyngeal cancer were eligible for participation in this study. The location and extent of locoregional recurrences were transferred to pretreatment planning computed tomography for dosimetry analysis. Results: Among 274 patients, 100 (36.5%) received IMRT without replanning and 174 (63.5%) received IMRT with replanning. Five-year rates of locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRFS) were 90.1% (95%CI, 84.8% to 95.4%) and 80.8% (95%CI, 72.0% to 89.6%) for patients with and without replanning, P = 0.045. There were 17 locoregional recurrences in 15 patients among patients with replanning, of which 1 (5.9%) was out-field and 16 (94.1%) were in-field. Among patients without replanning, 19 patients developed locoregional recurrences, of which 1 (5.3%) was out-field, 2 (10.5%) were marginal, and 16 (84.2%) were in-field. Conclusions: In-field failure inside the high dose area was the most common locoregional recurrent pattern for non-metastatic NPC. Adapting the target volumes and modifying the radiation dose prescribed to the area of tumor reduction during IMRT was feasible and would not cause additional recurrence in the shrunken area. Background: Poplar (Populus cathayana)and willow (Salix rehderiana) are important fast-growing trees in China. Grafting plays an important role in improving plant stress resistance and construction of ornamental plants. It is found that willow scions grafted onto poplar rootstocks can form ornamental plants. However, this grafted combination has a low survival rate. Many studies have reported that the xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase (XTH) family plays an important role in the healing process of grafts. Results: A total of 38 PtrXTHs and 32 SpuXTHs were identified in poplar and willow respectively, and were classified into three subfamilies. Tandem duplication was the main reason for the expansion of the PtrXTHs. Grafting treatment and Quantitative real time PCR (RT-qPCR) analysis revealed that five XTH genes differentially expressed between self-grafted and reciprocal grafted combinations. Specifically, the high expression levels of SrXTH16, SrXTH17, SrXTH25, PcXTH22 and PcXTH17 may contribute to the high survival rate of the grafted combination with willow scion and poplar rootstock. Subcellular localization identified that the SrXTH16, SrXTH17, SrXTH25, PcXTH17 and PcXTH22 proteins were located on the cell walls. Transcription factors (NAC, MYB and DOF) may regulate the five XTH genes. Conclusions: This study provides a new understanding of the roles of PcXTH and SrXTH genes and their roles in grafting. The bamboo grasshopper, Ceracris kiangsu Tsai, is a serious pest of bamboo in China and Southeast Asia, and it overwinters as eggs for a period of up to 9 mo. Despite its importance, cold tolerance has not been thoroughly examined in this species. Thus, the present study investigated the low-temperature tolerance of overwintering eggs collected in the field, particularly the effects of rapid cold-hardening (RCH) and cold acclimation (ACC) on egg survival, and changes in the cryoprotectant contents. The supercooling point of overwintering eggs collected from the field was −23.9 °C, and their survival rate after exposure to −22 °C for 6 h was 26.6%, thereby suggesting that the cold tolerance strategy employed by C. kiangsu is freeze avoidance. After exposure to 0 and 4 °C for 12 and 24 h, or 0, 4, and 8 °C for 5 days, the survival rate of eggs subjected to −22 °C increased to approximately 50%, with significant effects of RCH and ACC. The glycerol levels in RCH and ACC treated eggs were also significantly higher than those in the control group, but the protein and trehalose contents were either reduced or not significantly altered. These results indicate that glycerol functions as a low molecular weight cryoprotectant in C. kiangsu eggs, and that RCH and ACC treatment facilitate its accumulation, thereby enhancing cold tolerance. Serum creatinine (Cr) and Albumin (Alb) have emerged as prognostic factors for mortality in many diseases including burned patients. However, few studies report the relationship between Cr/Alb ratio and major burned patients. The purpose of this study is to make evaluation of efficacy of Cr/Alb ratio in predicting 28-day mortality in major burned patients. Based on a local largest tertiary hospital in South of China, we retrospectively analyzed data of 174 patients with total burn area surface (TBSA) ≥ 30% from January 2010 to December 2022. Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC), logistic analysis, and Kaplan–Meier analysis were performed to evaluate the association between Cr/Alb ratio and 28-day mortality. Integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), and net reclassification improvement (NRI) were used to estimate the improvements in new model performance. 28-day mortality rate was 13.2% (23/174) in burned patients. Cr/Alb on admission at level of 3.340μmol/g showed the best discrimination between survivors and non-survivors after admission at 28 days. The result of multivariate logistic analysis suggested that age (OR, 1.058 [95%CI 1.016–1.102]; p = 0.006), higher FTSA (OR, 1.036 [95%CI 1.010–1.062]; p = 0.006), and higher level of Cr/Alb ratio (OR, 6.923 [95CI% 1.743–27.498]; p = 0.006) were independently associated with 28 day-mortality. A regression model was constructed by logit(p) = 0.057 *Age + 0.035 *FTBA + 1.935 * Cr/Alb − 6.822. The model showed a better discrimination and risk reclassification compared with ABSI and rBaux score. High Cr/Alb ratio at admission is a herald of poor outcome. The model generated from multivariate analysis could serve as an alternative prediction tool among major burned patients. • Creatinine-to-albumin (Cr/Alb) ratio can predict prognosis in major burned patients. • Age, full-thickness burn area and high level of Cr/Alb were independent risk factors in 28-day mortality. • A new model made of age, full-thickness burn area and Cr/Alb showed a great predictive performance in 28-day mortality compared with other predictive scores systems. • It may help to improve survival rate by reducing Cr and improving Alb in early phase. Objectives: The therapeutic regimen of submandibular gland carcinoma (SGC) has not reached consensus, especially for the neck treatment of patients with cN0. Materials and methods: Patients with SGC were identified from the medical database of Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital. Kaplan–Meier analysis, univariate and multivariate Cox regression were employed to evaluate the survival and independent prognostic factors. Results: Two hundred and fifteen patients with SGC were retrospectively reviewed. The 5‐year disease‐free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) rates were 71.5% and 77.8%, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that histological grade, cT classification, cN classification, and perineural invasion (PNI) were independent prognostic factors for DFS, while histological grade, cT classification, cN classification, and age were those for OS. The neck dissection showed no significant survival benefit for patients with cN0. Lung was the most common site of distant metastasis (16.7%). Conclusions: Histological grade, cT classification, cN classification, age, and PNI were independent prognostic factors of patient with SGC, which should be the main considerations for making therapeutic regimens. Gastroenteropancreatic (GEP) neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are one of the most common types of NETs, accounting for 65-75% of all NETs. However, epidemiological characteristics of patients with GEP-NETs in China are still lacking. The present retrospective study aimed to investigate the local epidemiology of GEP-NETs and assess the prognostic factors in China. The data of 267 patients with GEP-NETs who were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Bengbu Medical College (Bengbu, China) and the Affiliated Hospital of West Anhui Health Vocational College (Lu'an, China) were retrospectively reviewed. The clinical and pathological characteristics of the patients, as well as follow-up information, were collected, and the 5-year survival rate was calculated. Kaplan-Meier curves and log-rank analysis were used to analyze the prognostic factors. The stomach (100/267; 37.5%) was the most common site of GEP-NETs and the liver (25/39; 64.1%) was the most common metastatic site. A total of 166 (62.2%) and 219 (82.0%) patients had positive results for chromogranin A (CgA) and synaptophysin (Syn), respectively. The percentage of patients with tumor grade G1, G2 and G3 was 33.3, 21.0 and 45.7%, respectively. The 5-year overall survival rate was 79.7%, and the age, tumor site, distant metastasis and tumor grading upon diagnosis were all prognostic factors. In conclusion, the present case series investigated the epidemiology and prognostic factors of GEP-NETs in China. CgA and Syn could be used as diagnostic markers for NETs and the stomach was the most common primary tumor site. The aim of this study is to evaluate the survival benefit of consolidative autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) in patients with peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCL). In this retrospective study, the ASCT group underwent consolidative ASCT after first-line therapy at 14 transplantation centers in China between January 2001 and December 2019. Data were collected over the same time frame for the non-ASCT group from the database of lymphoma patient records at Peking University Cancer Hospital & Institute. A total of 120 and 317 patients were enrolled in the ASCT and non-ASCT groups, respectively, and their median ages were 43 years and 51 years, respectively. In the ASCT group, 101 patients had achieved complete remission (CR) and 19 patients had achieved partial remission at the time of ASCT. The median follow-up time was 40.2 months and 68 months, and the 3-year overall survival (OS) rate was 80.6% and 48.9% (p < 0.001) for the ASCT and non-ASCT groups, respectively. The beneficial effect of ASCT for OS remained even after propensity score-matched (PSM) analysis (81.6% vs 68.3%, p = 0.001). Among the 203 patients who were aged ≤ 65 years and achieved CR, ASCT conferred a significant survival benefit (3-year progression-free survival [PFS]: 67.4% vs 47.0%, p = 0.004; 3-year OS: 84.0% vs 74.1%, p = 0.010), and this was also maintained after PSM analysis (3-year PFS: 66.6% vs 48.4%, p = 0.042; 3-year OS: 84.8% vs 70.5%, p = 0.011). Background: Combining the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level (C stage) with TNM staging can provide a more comprehensive prognostic assessment of colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the clinical value of incorporating CEA status into the TNM staging system needs to be evaluated. Methods: We used the SEER database (N = 49,350) and a retrospective cohort from China (N = 1,440). A normal CEA level was staged as C0 and an elevated CEA level was staged as C1. Restricted cubic spline analysis was used to examine the dose-response relationship between the CEA level and survival. The Kaplan-Meier method with the log-rank test was used to plot survival curves. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression models with forward stepwise variable selection were used to estimate the hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals. Results: Patients with C1 were more likely to have advanced disease than those with C0. CEA on a continuous scale was positively associated with mortality risk. Compared with patients with C0 stage, those with C1 stage had significantly lower survival rates. In the SEER dataset, C1 was independently associated with poor prognosis in patients with CRC, with an approximately 70% increased risk of mortality. Patients with C1 stage had significantly lower survival than those with C0 stage at all clinical stages. Incorporating the C stage into the TNM staging refined the prediction of prognosis of patients with CRC, with a gradual decline in prognosis from stage I C0 to stage IV C1. A similar pattern was observed in the present retrospective cohort study. At each lymph node stage, patients with C1 had significantly lower 5-year survival rates than patients with C0. Compared with lymph node positivity, CEA positivity may have a stronger correlation with a worse prognosis. Conclusion: Our findings not only validated the independent prognostic significance of CEA in CRC but also demonstrated its enhanced prognostic value when combined with TNM staging. Background: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) effectively improves the survival rate and quality of life of primary liver cancer patients, but high-level evidence is lacking. Patients and methods: Patients were selected from 5 tertiary hospitals in Henan Province, China. Two thousand sixty-seven patients with primary liver cancer were included in the study. The electronic medical records (EMRs) of the patients were collected. Patients who received adjunctive TCM treatment and underwent treatment cumulative time for more than 1 month were classified as the TCM intervention cohort. Patients who did not receive adjunctive TCM treatment or underwent treatment cumulative time for less than 1 month were classified as the non-TCM intervention cohort. The main outcome indicators were the survival rate and overall survival time. The propensity score inverse probability weighting method was used to balance the differences between the groups. Results: The primary cohort comprised 2,067 patients, including 462 patients who received adjunctive TCM treatment and 1,605 patients who did not receive adjunctive TCM treatment. The results of the Kaplan-Meier survival curve indicated that the survival rate and median survival time of the exposure group before and after propensity score weighting were greater than those of the control group (p < 0.0001). Univariate Cox regression analysis after propensity score weighting showed that adjunctive TCM treatment was an independent protective factor for survival [regression coefficient = -0.215, hazard ratio (HR) = 0.8066, 95% confidence interval (CI) (0.6609-0.9844)]. Conclusion: Adjuvant treatment with TCM has a protective effect on the prognosis of patients with primary liver cancer; it can reduce the mortality and prolong the survival time.
