Background: Axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) is a chronic inflammatory rheumatic disease predominantly affecting the axial skeleton. We aimed to describe the clinical characteristics of patients with non-radiographic axSpA (nr-axSpA) in China and compare the differences between adult- and juvenile-onset cases. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using data from 776 patients with nr-axSpA in the Clinical Characteristic and Outcome in Chinese Axial Spondyloarthritis (COCAS) study cohort. Patients were divided into two groups including the adult-onset group (n = 662) and the juvenile-onset group (n = 114) according to age at disease onset. Baseline demographics and clinical characteristics were compared between patients with adult-onset and juvenile-onset nr-axSpA. Results: Overall, the male-to-female ratio was 1.26:1, the prevalence of HLA-B27 positivity was 72.2%, and the median age at disease onset of nr-axSpA was 22 years. Nearly 75% of nr-axSpA patients had peripheral arthritis in the disease course, and the prevalence of extra-articular manifestations was 10.4%. The juvenile-onset group contained a higher proportion of men (66.7% vs. 53.9%, P = 0.011) and a longer baseline disease duration (4.0 [4.0] vs. 1.6 [3.5], P < 0.001) than the adult-onset group. A family history of spondyloarthritis was more frequent in the juvenile-onset group than in the adult-onset group (23.7% vs. 15.4%, P = 0.028), but no significant difference in the prevalence of HLA-B27 positivity was observed between the two groups (P = 0.537). Regarding initial symptoms, peripheral arthritis occurred more often in patients with juvenile-onset nr-axSpA, whereas patients with adult-onset nr-axSpA presented more frequently with axial involvement. The prevalence of inflammatory back pain (IBP) was higher in the adult-onset group than in the juvenile-onset group (85.0% vs. 75.4%, P = 0.010), whereas the juvenile-onset group showed a higher prevalence of peripheral arthritis and enthesitis than the adult-onset group (67.5% vs. 48.5%, P < 0.001; 35.1% vs. 23.3%, P = 0.007, respectively). Conclusions: Compared with adult-onset nr-axSpA, juvenile-onset nr-axSpA was more common in men and those with a family history of spondyloarthritis. Novel duck orthoreovirus can infect various hosts, mainly causing spleen necrosis and hemorrhagic necrotizing hepatitis, leading to immunosuppression and growth impairment. Infectious diseases characterized by swollen hock joints, movement disorders, and impaired growths have recently occurred in significant duck breeding areas in China. Infected ducks from Shandong Province were selected, and N-DRV-LY20 was isolated from the swollen joints. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) of N-DRV-LY20 and homology analysis showed that all ten fragments had the highest homology to N-DRV and the closest affinity to Duck/N-DRV-XT18/China/2018. After artificial inoculation with N-DRV-LY20 virus solution, Cherry Valley ducks showed the same symptoms of leg swelling and hock joint deformation, which were not explored in previous studies. A long history of evolution has led to significant variation in DRV and altered its pathogenicity. In this study, we confirmed the ability of N-DRV to cause viral arthritis in ducks and clarified this isolate's genetic characteristics and level of variation, providing a basis for the control and variation detection of N-DRV. Avian reovirus (ARV) is the primary pathogen responsible for viral arthritis. In this study, 2340 samples with suspected viral arthritis were collected from 2019 to 2020 in 16 provinces of China to investigate the prevalence of ARV in China and to characterize the molecular genetic evolution of epidemic strains. From 113 samples analyzed by RT-PCR, 46 strains of avian reovirus were successfully isolated and identified. The genetic evolution of the σC gene showed that 46 strains were distributed in 1–5 branches, with the largest number of strains in branches 1 and 2. The σC gene homology among the strains was low, with approximately 62% homology in branches 4 and 5 and about 55% in the remaining branches. The strains circulating during the ARV epidemic in different provinces were distributed in different branches. The SPF chickens were immunized with inactivated vaccines containing strains from branches 1 and 4 to analyze the cross-immune protection elicited by different branches of ARV strains. A challenge protection test was performed using strains in branches 1, 2, 4, and 5. Our results showed that inactivated vaccines containing strains from branches 1 and 4 could fully protect from strains in branches 1, 4, and 5. The results of this study revealed the genetic diversity among the endemic strains of ARV in China from 2019 to 2020. Invasive Salmonella infections result in a significant burden of disease including morbidity, mortality, and financial cost in many countries. Besides typhoid fever, the clinical impact of non-typhoid Salmonella infections is increasingly recognized with the improvement of laboratory detection capacity and techniques. A retrospective multicenter study was conducted to analyze the clinical profiles and antimicrobial resistance patterns of invasive Salmonella infections in hospitalized children in China during 2016–2018. A total of 130 children with invasive Salmonella infections were included with the median age of 12 months (range: 1–144 months). Seventy-nine percent of cases occurred between May and October. Pneumonia was the most common comorbidity in 33 (25.4%) patients. Meningitis and septic arthritis caused by nontyphoidal Salmonella (NTS) infections occurred in 12 (9.2%) patients and 5 (3.8%) patients. Patients < 12 months (OR: 16.04) and with septic shock (OR: 23.4), vomit (OR: 13.33), convulsion (OR: 15.86), C-reactive protein (CRP) ≥ 40 g/L (OR: 5.56), and a higher level of procalcitonin (PCT) (OR: 1.05) on admission were statistically associated to an increased risk of developing meningitis. Compared to 114 patients with NTS infections, 16 patients with typhoid fever presented with higher levels of CRP and PCT (P < 0.05). The rates of resistance to ampicillin, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, ciprofloxacin, and ceftriaxone among Salmonella Typhi and NTS isolates were 50% vs 57.3%, 9.1% vs 24.8%, 0% vs 11.2%, and 0% vs 9.9%, respectively. Abnormality of the knee joint due to diseases or injury would disable the patient's affected leg, lead to difficulty in locomotion and daily life, and in turn makes the patient demand special care from his/her family and community. In this study, we report a case of knee fusion from Jiaerkenjiaga Cemetery, northwestern China, from a male individual who died at the age between 35 and 45 years. Carbon dating of his bone sample shows that he died during 542–391 BCE. The phenomenon was examined through macroscopic observation, digital radiography, and CT scanning. Results demonstrate that the right femur and tibia were fused at the right knee, whilst the patella was fused to the lateral condyle of the right femur. Otherwise, there were no signs of fracture, neoplasm, or other pathological conditions. It was diagnosed as knee ankylosis. It was proposed that this abnormality was likely due to the rupture of the medial patellofemoral ligament and subsequent complication of patella dislocation and septic arthritis. Given the nomadic lifestyle of the Jiaerkenjiaga people, it is speculated that the right patellofemoral ligament of this individual was torn in an accident likely related to horse riding. The well‐remodelled nature of the new bone formation indicates that the injury might have happened years before his death. This study aimed to investigate the spatial distribution and patterns of multimorbidity among the elderly in China. Data on the occurrence of 14 chronic diseases were collected for 9710 elderly participants in the 2015 waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). Web graph, Apriori algorithm, age-adjusted Charlson comorbidity index (AAC), and Spatial autocorrelation were used to perform the multimorbidity analysis. The multimorbidity prevalence rate was estimated as 49.64% in the elderly in China. Three major multimorbidity patterns were identified: [Asthma/Chronic lungs diseases]: (Support (S) = 6.17%, Confidence (C) = 63.77%, Lift (L) = 5.15); [Asthma, Arthritis, or rheumatism/ Chronic lungs diseases]: (S = 3.12%, C = 64.03%, L = 5.17); [Dyslipidemia, Hypertension, Arthritis or rheumatism/Heart attack]: (S = 3.96%, C = 51.56, L = 2.69). Results of the AAC analysis showed that the more chronic diseases an elderly has, the lower is the 10-year survival rate (P < 0.001). Global spatial autocorrelation showed a positive spatial correlation distribution for the prevalence of the third multimorbidity pattern in China (P = 0.032). Burkholderia pseudomallei is the causative agent of melioidosis, endemic mainly in tropical and subtropical areas. Its clinical manifestation is broad ranging from a localized skin lesion to a life-threatening systemic disease. Osteomyelitis and septic arthritis caused by B. pseudomallei are a rare, fatal illness, whose clinical features have not been illustrated in mainland China. Over 10 years (2010 to 2019), of 334 culture-confirmed melioidosis in Hainan province, China, 44 patients (13.2%) were confirmed to have osteomyelitis and septic arthritis through the combination of clinical features, imaging examination and microbiological culture. Herein, we summarized these 44 patients' clinical manifestations, demographical features, antibiotic treatment, and outcomes. Of them, osteomyelitis and septic arthritis accounted for 25 (56.8%) and 15 (34.1%), respectively, and 4 patients (9.1%) had both. The gender ratio of male/female was approximately 13.7:1; diabetes mellitus was the most common risk factor (38/44, 86.4%); imipenem and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole were the most frequently used antibiotics. Most B. pseudomallei strains were isolated from blood samples (41/44, 93.2%). After surgical handling, antibiotic treatment, or both, 9 patients died, with a mortality rate of 20.5%. In summary, in melioidosis endemic areas, for patients with both localized manifestations of joint and bone and a positive B. pseudomallei blood culture, increased awareness is required for melioidotic osteomyelitis and septic arthritis. Outbreaks of avian orthoreovirus (ARV) infection with primary symptoms of arthritis/ tenosynovitis syndrome have been occurring more frequently in broiler flocks in China in recent years. This study aimed to investigate the genetic characteristics of ARV field strains in broiler flocks exhibiting arthritis/ tenosynovitis syndrome from 9 cities in Shandong province during 2015 to 2017. A total of 64 synovial and tendon samples were obtained from broilers with significant arthritis/tenosynovitis syndrome, and 21 ARV field strains were obtained. Phylogenetic analysis of the sC nt/aa sequences revealed that only 4 isolates were clustered in genotype I, including vaccine strains S1133, 1733, and most of the ARV field strains identified previously in China. Eleven and 6 ARV field isolates were identified in genotypes II and V, sharing 70.9 to 76.0% and 53.0 to 55.2% nt identities with the vaccine strains, respectively. Previous studies in China have not reported these 2 serotypes of field strains, and prevalence of these ARV variants may be increasing in Chinese broiler flocks. Mycoplasma synoviae (MS), which causes respiratory disease, eggshell apex abnormalities, infectious synovitis, and arthritis in avian species, has become an economically detrimental poultry pathogen in recent years. In China, the disease is characterized by infectious synovitis and arthritis. However, the mechanism by which MS causes infectious synovitis and arthritis remains unknown. Increasing evidence suggests that synovial fibroblasts (SF) play a key role in the pathogenesis of arthritis. Here, both RNA sequencing and tandem mass tag analyses are utilized to compare the response of primary chicken SF (CSF) following infection with and without MS. The host response between non-infected and infected cells was remarkably different at both the mRNA and protein levels. In total, 2,347 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) (upregulated, n = 1,137; downregulated, n = 1,210) and 221 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) (upregulated, n = 129; downregulated, n = 92) were detected in the infected group. A correlation analysis indicated a moderate positive correlation between the mRNA and protein level changes in MS-infected CSF. At both the transcriptomic and proteomic levels, 149 DEGs were identified; 88 genes were upregulated and 61 genes were downregulated in CSF. Additionally, part of these regulated genes and their protein products were grouped into seven categories: proliferation-related and apoptosis-related factors, inflammatory mediators, proangiogenic factors, antiangiogenic factors, matrix metalloproteinases, and other arthritis-related proteins. These proteins may be involved in the pathogenesis of MS-induced arthritis in chickens. To our knowledge, this is the first integrated analysis on the mechanism of CSF-MS interactions that combined transcriptomic and proteomic technologies. Background: Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a rare but devastating complication after total joint arthroplasty. There is a paucity of data on the incidence and prevalence of periprosthetic infection in mainland China. This study aimed to analyze the rates of surgical revision after arthroplasty due to PJI and the procedures followed in Beijing, China. Methods: The study involved a retrospective multicenter cross-sectional survey of patients undergoing revisions for periprosthetic infection after hip/knee arthroplasty at nine hospitals in Beijing from 2014 to 2016. Age, gender, body mass index, primary diagnosis, comorbidity, primary surgery, treatment methods, and post-revision complications were analyzed. Results: A total of 38,319 hip/knee arthroplasties and 366 (0.96%) revisions for PJI were identified. Of these, 161 (161/14,110; 1.14%) revisions involved hip arthroplasty, whereas 205 (205/24,209; 0.85%) revisions were due to knee arthroplasty. Procedures for revisions of infected hip included 7 (4.3%) cases of open debridement and prosthesis retention, 32 (19.9%) cases of one-stage exchange, 121 (75.2%) cases of two-stage exchange, and 1 (0.007%) case of hip dissection. As for the infected knee, the procedures included 45 (22.0%) cases of open debridement and prosthesis retention, 13 (6.3%) cases of one-stage exchange, 143 (69.8%) cases of two-stage exchange, and 4 (0.02%) cases of knee fusion. Conclusions: The study found the rates of revision due to PJI to be low. In recent years, emerging avian reovirus (ARV) strains causing viral arthritis have become a challenge to the worldwide chicken industry, and were responsible for significant economic losses. In this study, we characterized emerging variant ARV strains and examined their genetic relationship and pathogenicity variation with reference strains. A total of 18 emerging variant ARV strains were isolated from tendon and capsular synovial fluid of broiler chickens with clinical cases of arthritis/tenosynovitis at commercial farms in China. Comparative analysis based on σC sequence showed that 4/18 isolates were in the same cluster (Cluster 1) as vaccine strains (S1133), whereas 14 of 18 isolates were in Clusters 2, 3, and 6. The field isolates shared a rather low identity (38.1 to 81.9%) with S1133 in Cluster 1, especially for those from Cluster 6 (38.1 to 67.2%). A higher ARV isolation rate was observed in chicken embryos (47/61) compared to cell culture (37/61) through PCR with a detection primer. A total of 3 isolates were selected to infect specific-pathogen-free (SPF) chickens, showing that the tested isolates, especially that from Cluster 6, displayed greater pathogenicity than S1133 strain, characterized by higher incidence. Avian orthoreovirus (ARV) infections of broiler flocks cause arthritis/tenosynovitis syndrome and significant economic losses. ARV variants were detected in the USA and Canada. Viral arthritis/tenosynovitis syndrome has occurred frequently in China in recent years. In this study, a variant ARV strain associated with viral arthritis/tenosynovitis syndrome was isolated from broilers and designated as LY383. Genomic sequence and phylogenetic analysis of the σC nucleic acid and amino acid sequences revealed that the isolate was closely related to ARV field strains Reo/PA/Layer/01224B/14, Reo/PA/Broiler/1551/13, GA/14602/2014, GA/13569/2013 and GA/13542/2013, in cluster V, but distinct from most Chinese field strains or commercial vaccine strains. Experimental challenge showed that the isolate could cause arthritis/tenosynovitis syndrome in broilers, which possessed a high level of maternal antibodies induced by commercial ARV vaccines (S1133, 1733 and T98). Furthermore, viral nucleic acid could be detected in cloacal swabs of all challenged birds throughout the entire test from 5 dpi onward. These results suggest that a novel ARV genotype emerges and might become prevalent in broiler flocks in China. The ARV field strain was distinct from previous China-origin ARV isolates and vaccine strains. The past few years have witnessed a rapid increase in cases of viral arthritis caused by avian reovirus (ARV) in chicken farms in China, attributed to the emergence of variant strains that render traditional vaccines ineffective, leading to substantial economic losses. In this study, we successfully isolated a novel ARV strain, designated as 2023ARV-GS-SDAU-1, from chickens in a broiler flock vaccinated with an ARV vaccine in Gansu province. We performed whole-genome sequencing and assessed its pathogenicity through 2 infection routes: oral administration and intraperitoneal injection. Our analysis revealed significant variations in the σA gene, associated with the inhibition of interferon secretion, compared to known ARV strains. The highest nucleotide identity observed was below 80%. Additionally, the σC gene exhibited notable variations compared to its homologous strains within the same group. Multiple alignment of the amino acid sequences classified the 2023ARV-GS-SDAU-1 strain under genotype I. Furthermore, our pathogenicity experiments indicated that the isolated strain exhibited more severe pathogenicity when administered via intraperitoneal injection in SPF chickens. In summary, our data suggest that the 2023ARV-GS-SDAU-1 strain represents a novel variant circulating in broiler flocks in China. Cryptococcal infections are uncommon in individuals with normal immune functions. These infections commonly affect the lungs and central nervous system; however, there are a few reports of infection in the bone and joint areas. The current study reported a case of knee joint infection caused by Cryptococcus neoformans in China. A 56-year-old man presented to The China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences Guang'anmen Hospital Baoding Hospital (Baoding, China) with severe anemia and lung inflammation. Initially, there was no obvious cause of swelling or pain in the knee joints. However, after the patient presented with new swollen and painful knee joint symptoms, pus culture and cryptococcal antigen detection tests confirmed C. neoformans infection. After pus drainage and fluconazole treatment, the patient's condition substantially improved. Clinical awareness of C. neoformans infections should be promoted. In suspected cases, puncture fluid or tissue pathogen testing should be performed as early as possible to avoid misdiagnosis and serious consequences of delayed treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Previous studies reported that depression was associated with a high risk of arthritis. However, the effect of different long-term depressive symptom trajectory patterns on the risk of arthritis has not been evaluated. Our study aimed to explore the association between depressive symptom trajectories and the risk of arthritis. A total of 5583 participants from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study from 2011 to 2018 were included in this analysis. Group-based trajectory modeling was used to identify depressive symptom trajectories, and a multivariable competitive Cox regression model was used to examine the association of depressive symptom trajectories with arthritis during follow-up. Five depressive symptom trajectories were identified in our research: stable-high, decreasing, increasing, stable-moderate and stable-low. Compared with participants in the stable-low trajectory group, those in the stable-moderate, increasing, decreasing and stable-high trajectory groups had a higher cumulative risk of arthritis, with HRs (95% CIs) for arthritis of 1.64 (1.30, 2.07), 1.86 (1.30, 2.66), 1.99 (1.41, 2.80) and 2.19 (1.38, 3.48), respectively. Participants with the stable-high symptoms trajectory had the highest cumulative risk of arthritis. There was still a high risk of arthritis, although the depression state was reduced and remained at a level that is generally considered reasonable. The higher depressive symptoms trajectories were significantly associated with the increased risk of arthritis, and the long-term depressive symptoms trajectories may be a strong predictor of having arthritis. • The research was based on a national representative cohort study in China. • People with the stable-high symptoms trajectory had the highest risk of arthritis. • When depression does not decrease to a lower level, the risk of arthritis is high. • the long-term depressive symptom trajectories may be a strong predictor of arthritis. Objective: Septic arthritis is not commonly reported in paleopathology. This study aims to provide a differential diagnosis of septic arthritis by looking at a case from ancient China. We also aim to add to the current literature on septic arthritis in paleopathology., Materials: One adult male skeleton recovered from the Dapuzi Cemetery, Shaanxi, dating to the Western Han Dynasty (3rd century BCE-1st century CE)., Methods: Macroscopic observations were conducted., Results: The lytic appearance and massive new bone formation on the left acetabulum of M142 are compatible with septic arthritis. The hip pathology greatly influenced his stature. The two femur shafts present different degrees of robusticity. The monophasic variant of Salmonella Typhimurium has emerged and increased rapidly worldwide during the past two decades. The loss of genes encoding the second-phase flagella and the acquirement of the multi-drug resistance cassette are the main genomic characteristics of the S. Typhimurium monophasic variant. In this study, two Salmonella strains were isolated from the knee effusion and feces of a 4-year-old girl who presented with a case of septic arthritis and fever, respectively. Primary serovar identification did not detect the second-phase flagellar antigens of the strains using the classical slide agglutination test. Whole-genome sequencing analysis was performed to reveal that the replacement of the fljAB operon by a 4.8-kb cassette from E. coli caused the non-expression of phase-2 flagellar antigens of the strains, which were confirmed to be a novel S. Virchow monophasic variant (Salmonella 6,7,14:r:-) by core-genome multi-locus sequence typing (cgMLST). Compared to the 16 published S. Virchow genomes, the two strains shared a unique CRISPR type of VCT12, and showed a close genetic relationship to S. Virchow BCW_2814 and BCW_2815 strains, isolated from Denmark and China, respectively, based on cgMLST and CRISPR typing. Additionally, the acquisition of Salmonella genomic island 2 (SGI2) with an antimicrobial resistance gene cassette enabled the strains to be multidrug-resistant to chloramphenicol, tetracycline, trimethoprim, and sulfamethoxazole. The emergence of the multidrug-resistant S. Virchow monophasic variant revealed that whole-genome sequencing and CRISPR typing could be applied to identify the serovaraints of Salmonella enterica strains in the national Salmonella surveillance system. Tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA) is a pharmacologically lipophilic active constituent isolated from the roots and rhizomes of the Chinese medicinal herb Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (Danshen). Tan IIA is currently used in China and other neighboring countries to treat patients with cardiovascular system, diabetes, apoplexy, arthritis, sepsis, and other diseases. Recently, it was reported that tan IIA could have a wide range of antitumor effects on several human tumor cell lines, but the research of the mechanism of tan IIA is relatively scattered in cancer. Hydropericardium hepatitis syndrome (HHS) is a fatal disease caused by fowl adenovirus serotype 4 (FAdV-4). Avian viral arthritis is an infectious disease characterized by movement disorders caused by avian orthoreovirus (ARV). In the early 2019, our epidemiologic survey on poultry diseases in eight commercial broiler farms in China showed that FAdV-4 and ARV have a high coinfection rate, accounting for 63 % of all ARV-positive samples. We designed chicken embryo and animal models to investigate the synergistic pathogenicity of FAdV-4 and ARV. Weakness and inappetence were observed in all specific-pathogen-free (SPF) chickens of the experimental group. FAdV-4 and ARV coinfection caused severe embryonic body and hepatic hemorrhage in SPF chicken embryos. Compared with the singular ARV-infected group, joint swelling was more severe in all coinfected groups. Compared with single virus infection, the coinfection of the two viruses increased the mortality of SPF chicken embryos and chickens. FAdV-4 and ARV coinfection resulted in significantly severe macroscopic and microscopic lesions of the liver, spleen, and kidney of SPF chickens. The detection results of viral load in allantoic fluid, liver, and cloacal swabs indicated that ARV enhanced FAdV-4 replication in SPF chicken embryos and chickens. Cytokine detection showed a significant change in interleukin-1 (IL-1), IL-6, and interferon-α (IFN-α) levels in coinfected groups compared with those in the single-infected groups. Additionally, FAdV-4 and ARV coinfection caused severe damage to the SPF chicken's immune system. Haemophilus parasuis , a gram-negative bacterium as an early commensal colonizer in the upper respiratory tract of weaning pigs (Sus scrofa), is one of the most important bacterial pathogens affecting pig populations. It is the causative agent of Glässer's disease, causing systemic infection and polyserositis, meningitis, and arthritis. H. parasuis infection can result in high mortality and morbidity with, the significant economic losses for pig producers. To estimate the overall disease prevalence of H. parasuis in pigs from China, we performed a meta-analysis using five bibliographical databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, CNKI, Wanfang, and VIP Chinese Journal Databases. A total of 41 articles published between 2005 and 2019, fulfilled the final inclusion criteria. The overall prevalence of H. parasuis in pigs in China was 27.8 % with the highest prevalence between 2011 and 2015 (41.0 %). In terms of pig age, the point estimate of H. parasuis prevalence was higher in suckling piglets (29.2 %) compared with that for other pig ages. The prevalence in the serum subgroup (29.8 %) was higher than that in the nasal swab subgroup (12.5 %). The results of the present meta-analysis showed that H. parasuis infection was common in pig populations in China; therefore, effective control measures are necessary to reduce this threat to pig populations. The association between temperature and mortality has been widely reported. However, it remains largely unclear whether inflammation-related diseases, caused by excessive or inappropriate inflammatory reaction, may be affected by ambient temperature, particularly in low-income areas. To explore the association between ambient temperature and clinical visits for inflammation-related diseases in rural villages in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China, during 2012─2015. Daily data on inflammation-related diseases and weather conditions were collected from 258 villages in Haiyuan (161 villages) and Yanchi (97 villages) counties during 2012─2015. A Quasi-Poisson regression with distributed lag non-linear model was used to examine the association between temperature and clinical visits for inflammation-related diseases. Stratified analyses were performed by types of diseases including arthritis, gastroenteritis, and gynecological inflammations. During the study period, there were 724,788 and 288,965 clinical visits for inflammation-related diseases in Haiyuan and Yanchi, respectively. Both exposure to low (RR: 2.045, 95% CI: 1.690, 2.474) and high temperatures (RR: 1.244, 95% CI: 1.107, 1.399) were associated with increased risk of total inflammation-related visits in Haiyuan county. Low temperatures were associated with increased risks of all types of inflammation-related diseases in Yanchi county (RR: 4.344, 95% CI: 2.887, 6.535), while high temperatures only affected gastroenteritis (RR: 1.274, 95% CI: 1.040, 1.561). Moderate temperatures explained approximately 26% and 33% of clinical visits due to inflammation-related diseases in Haiyuan and Yanchi, respectively, with the burden attributable to cold exposure higher than hot exposure. The reference temperature values ranged from 17 to 19 in Haiyuan, and 12 to 14 in Yanchi for all types of clinical visits. Our findings add additional evidence for the adverse effect of suboptimal ambient temperature and provide useful information for public health programs targeting people living in rural villages. Background: Brucellosis is a zoonotic infection transmitted from infected animals to humans, osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a devastating disease that affects patients' life with pain, dysfunction of walking and always lead to total hip arthroplasty (THA). We presented a case of ONFH which was very likely due to the infection of Brucella spp.Case Presentation: The patient was a 49 years-old male who was a herder living in Inner Mongolia, the northern part of China. He first showed recurrent fever then presented bilateral hip pain, which was confirmed to be brucellosis and ONFH on the right side of the hip. He was admitted to our center showed bilateral ONFH with the restrictive movement of both hips. We performed THA after it was confirmed that the infection has been cured. The patient can walk with the help of the walker the second day after surgery.Conclusion: Brucellosis is still a common epidemic disease worldwide, which can lead to many complications, brucellosis arthritis is the most common complication of Brucellosis. Osteonecrosis of the femoral head can also present in the patients with brucellosis. All the patients presented with recurrent fever and hip pain, who is from the epidemic region, should be taken both septic arthritis and ONFH into consideration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
