Despite the prevalence of health communication on social media, the mechanisms by which social media affect health information exchange have received less than adequate investigation. By integrating the lenses of affordance and social support, this study examines the effect of social media affordances on health information exchange, with a particular focus on the mediation effect of social support and the boundary condition of health consciousness. Results of an online survey indicated that the affordances of information accessibility and metavoicing are positively related to both general and experiential informational support. Moreover, the affordance of association is positively related to experiential informational support and emotional support. Additionally, three types of social support have positive effects on health information exchange, and health consciousness positively moderates the effect of experiential informational support on health information exchange. This study enriches existing literature by revealing the underlying mechanisms and boundary conditions of the relationship between social media affordances and health information exchange. The significant influence of green human resource management (GHRM) on a firm's environmental performance (EP) has garnered considerable attention in recent literature. Research on GHRM has primarily focused on its impact on employee green behavior or outputs, neglecting its role as an organizational-level resource in facilitating the implementation of environmental strategy (ES). Additionally, limited attention has been paid to the influence of green consciousness (GC) of top managers on this process. Drawing on the resource-based view and upper echelons theory, this study employed a moderated mediation model to explore the relationships among ES, GHRM and GC of top managers. Data were collected from questionnaire responses of 476 senior executives from Chinese warehousing or logistics firms, gathered in three phases using a time-lagged approach. Results indicated that GHRM partially mediates the relationship between ES and EP. Additionally, it was found that GC of top managers moderates the relationship between ES and GHRM, acting as a boundary condition for the mediating effect of GHRM on EP. BACKGROUND: In the discourse on the heterogeneity of gender and environmental concern, gender equality awareness can further illuminate the complexity of gender and environmental concern across different cultural backgrounds. OBJECTIVE: Differing from prior research, our study focuses on exploring the relationship between different genders, gender equality awareness, and environmental concern, as well as investigating whether gender equality awareness has distinct effects on environmental concern among different genders. METHODS: Utilizing data from the 2021 China General Social Survey (CGSS), we conducted a theoretical investigation into gender differences in environmental concern. First, we used descriptive statistics to observe the differences between the samples. Secondly, in order to compare the influence of gender equality awareness on different genders, we conducted t-tests on gender subgroups. Subsequently, an Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression model was employed to examine the effects of gender and gender equality awareness on environmental issues. Finally, gender equality awareness was introduced as a moderating variable to explore its potential interaction with gender and investigate whether a moderation mechanism exists between gender and environmental concern. RESULTS: Findings indicate that 1) male respondents in China exhibit greater concern for the environment compared to female respondents; 2) higher levels of gender equality awareness are positively correlated with higher levels of environmental concern; 3) the influence of gender on environmental concern is moderated by the degree of gender equality awareness. Specifically, when gender equality awareness is strengthened, female respondents exhibit a higher degree of environmental concern. CONCLUSION: Enhancing gender equality awareness contributes to improving both social gender equality and equitable concern for the environment. This research aims to clarify consumer purchase intentions (PIs) for organic food (OF) in China by investigating factors, including consumers' food safety consciousness (FSC), health consciousness (HC), and attitude (AT) toward OF. To collect data for this study, online surveys were carried out sequentially among 350 respondents, and partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was employed to test the proposed hypotheses regarding the direct and indirect effect of FSC on PI and the sequential mediating effect of HC and AT. The findings indicate that consumers' FSC strongly influences their intention to purchase OF and is sequentially mediated by HC and AT. PI is also significantly impacted by HC and is mediated by AT, and AT directly significantly influences PI. Through multiple group analyses, the path from HC to AT is found to be moderated by education. Accordingly, suggestions for OF businesses and future research are provided to improve public health. Buddhism provides the vocabulary for film auteur Pema Tseden to express a psychological dimension in his Amdo‐Tibetan stories. Drawing on the Tibetan Buddhist concept of bardo, the transitional space between sleep and waking, or death and rebirth, his works encapsulate surrealist flow of consciousness of the characters as they are torn between religious principles, modern imperatives, and conscience. Specifically, Balloon exposes an Amdo woman's choice between having an abortion in compliance with China's 1990s birth control policy or enabling the prophesized rebirth of a family forebear. The film extends Pema Tseden's earlier experiment in Jinpa, which enacts an intrapsychic dialogue in a dream, by using a religiously inflected visualization of the state of mind in the threshold between death and the next life. Balloon's passionate reenactment of a luminous afterlife landscape and its reflexive and even questioning attitudes toward the concept of reincarnation create an intriguing tension. Its central imagery, the inflated condom balloon, is a "semi‐transparent envelope," to borrow British novelist Virginia Woolf's phrase, which suggests the inscrutability of the characters' internal experiences. The balloon is also a "semi‐transparent filter" of the director's ambiguous affects, encapsulating cultural intimacy and cultural contemplation within a non‐dual framework. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mianzi, which refers to the prestige or status that is held by an individual by force of his or her behavior, position, achievement, connections, etc., is considered as the core criterion influencing Chinese people's behavior. In business research, however, research on employees' Mianzi consciousness in organizations is a newly emerging field. This study examines why Chinese employees with high Mianzi consciousness in the organization may engage in unethical pro-organizational behavior (UPB). Based on social exchange theory and self-affirmation theory, we propose that Chinese employees with high Mianzi consciousness may engage in UPB to manage their impressions in the workplace. We further propose that the important Chinese socioeconomic status factors - educational level and party affiliation - diminish the proposed indirect relationship. A field study with 524 China mainland employees provided support for our hypothesized model. The research advances our understanding of why, how and when Chinese employees with high Mianzi consciousness exhibit UPB. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed. As the implementers of government policies, junior civil servants bear the responsibility of providing services to the public. Whether they can put themselves in the people's shoes and show more active service consciousness directly reflects the government's management ability and the realization of service-oriented government goals. Although proactive service behavior has been studied, it has not been brought into the field of government administration. Hence, from the perspective of servant leadership, this study attempts to introduce proactive service behavior (PSB) into the field of government administration, and discusses the promotion strategies of junior civil servants' PSB in China. Through the statistical analysis of 416 junior civil servants collected in the two stages, this study verifies that servant leadership has a significant positive impact on public service motivation and PSB of junior civil servants. Public service motivation (PSM) can partially mediate the promotion effect of servant leadership on junior civil servants' PSB. Role identity can positively moderate the relationship between servant leadership and junior civil servants' PSM, and then affect their PSB. Therefore, this study suggests that leading cadres should integrate servant leadership into daily life, take the lead in providing quality services to their subordinates, and then inspire more proactive service to the masses. Faced with environmental degradation and atmospheric pollution, Chinese citizens increasingly envision the good life as a green life. Yet in cities and the countryside, understandings of environmental hardship and ecological redress diverge and at times even contradict each other. Nonetheless, promises of a greener future mobilize shared notions of cooperation in exchanges of work and support between urbanites and their rural counterparts. Situated between socialist sacrifice, market service, and digital technologies, these reciprocal environmental engagements challenge historical narratives of a smooth transition from the Maoist collective-oriented and public-spirited hero to the private and individualistic new subject of the Reform era. The mobilization of ecological labor instantiates a distinct formation of neosocialist desires and subjectivities oriented toward a greener future. Underlying this vision is a conception of shengtai yishi 生态意识 (ecological consciousness) that resonates with the government rhetoric of constructing a shengtai wenming 生态文明 (ecological civilization) in China and beyond. Background: The Index of Consciousness (IoC) is a new monitoring index of anesthesia depth reflecting the state of consciousness of the brain independently developed by China. The research on monitoring the depth of anesthesia mainly focuses on propofol, and bispectral index (BIS) is a sensitive and accurate objective index to evaluate the state of consciousness at home and abroad. This study mainly analyzed the effect of IoC on monitoring the depth of sevoflurane anesthesia and the consistency and accuracy with BIS when monitoring sevoflurane maintenance anesthesia. Objective: To investigate the monitoring value of the Index of Consciousness (IoC) for the depth of sevoflurane anesthesia in laparoscopic surgery. Methods: The study population consisted of 108 patients who experienced elective whole-body anesthesia procedures within the timeframe of April 2020 to June 2023 at our hospital. Throughout the anesthesia process, which encompassed induction and maintenance using inhaled sevoflurane, all patients were diligently monitored for both the Bispectral Index (BIS) and the Index of Consciousness (IoC). We conducted an analysis to assess the correlation between IoC and BIS throughout the anesthesia induction process and from the maintenance phase to the regaining of consciousness. To evaluate the predictive accuracy of IoC and BIS for the onset of unconsciousness during induction and the return of consciousness during emergence, we employed receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results: The mean difference between BIS and IoC, spanning from the pre-anesthesia induction phase to the completion of propofol induction, was 1.3 (95% Limits of Agreement [-53.4 to 56.0]). Similarly, during the interval from the initiation of sevoflurane inhalation to the point of consciousness restoration, the average difference between BIS and IoC was 0.3 (95% LOA [-10.8 to 11.4]). No statistically significant disparities were observed in the data acquired from the two measurement methodologies during both the anesthesia induction process and the journey from maintenance to the regaining of consciousness (P > 0.05). The outcomes of the ROC curve analysis disclosed that the areas under the curve (AUC) for prognosticating the occurrence of loss of consciousness were 0.967 (95% CI [0.935-0.999]) for BIS and 0.959 (95% CI [0.924-0.993]) for IoC, with optimal threshold values set at 81 (sensitivity: 88.10%, specificity: 92.16%) and 77 (sensitivity: 79.55%, specificity: 95.45%) correspondingly. For the prediction of recovery of consciousness, the AUCs were 0.995 (95% CI [0.987-1.000]) for BIS and 0.963 (95% CI [0.916-1.000]) for IoC, each associated with optimal cutoff values of 76 (sensitivity: 92.86%, specificity: 100.00%) and 72 (sensitivity: 86.36%, specificity: 100.00%) respectively. Conclusion: The monitoring of sevoflurane anesthesia maintenance using IoC demonstrates a level of comparability to BIS, and its alignment with BIS during the maintenance phase of sevoflurane anesthesia is robust. Introduction: In recent years, a growing number of near-death experience (NDE) testimonies have been collected worldwide due to an increasing interest in research on this phenomenon. China has many patients who survive lifethreatening situations, leaving over much data on NDEs to be collected for research. In the historical context of Eastern civilization, many mentally controlled practices in China can also lead to "NDEs-like" (e.g., meditation). This study aimed (1) to translate and validate the recently developed Near-Death Experience Content (NDE-C) scale into Chinese and (2) to quantify and identify NDEs and NDEs-like in China with this new Chinese version of the NDE-C scale. Methods: Here, we presented the work that had been performed to translate the NDE-C scale into Chinese and validated this version on 79 NDE testimonies. Results: Brislin's back-translation model was performed to translate a Chinese version of the NDE-C scale and internal consistency (the Cronbach's a value for the total group = 0.846) as well as the confirmatory factor analysis was conducted. Discussion: Currently, the Chinese version of the NDE-C scale is ready for use in research practice in the context of Eastern culture, to screen people who have experienced an NDEs(-like) and to quantify their subjective experience, promoting further NDEs-related research in China. Critical consciousness, as a core competence of western social workers and a type of personal resource, has been diminished in China. This study examined whether critical consciousness buffered the effect of role stress on burnout with a nationally representative sample. Results showed that critical consciousness prevented emotional exhaustion and depersonalization in social workers suffering from role stress while it did not enable them to perceive personal accomplishment. The results carry implications for maintaining social workers' workplace well-being and professional pursuits by incorporating critical consciousness into their professional competence and personal resources. As a forerunner in the field of the academic history of foreign literature, Chen Jianhua constantly expanded the scope and explore deeply. In the first academic history of The Critical History of Russian-Soviet Literature Studies in China, he broke through the work summary mode of previous academic review and returned to the academic standard, showing a clear historical consciousness and broad academic vision. To the Academic History of Chinese Foreign Literature Research, he expanded the writing method from "works" as the center to a comprehensive and in-depth way to take into account "scholars"and "institutions," and to discuss disciplinary methodology, unified literary phenomena and theoretical issues from multiple perspectives, it opened a broad space for follow-up research. In the minds of ancient people, tombs and burials were where the lives of this world ended and another type of life began. By incorporating the concepts of life found in Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, and the widespread belief in ghosts and immortals, burial ceremonies evolved during the Wei and Jin 魏晋 dynasties (220–420) into an integrated and unified notion of burial. The funeral ritual's imaginative and fanciful depictions of the hereafter express sentimental devotion to life and contemplation of death. The burial ceremony and tomb architecture change in accordance with how the concepts of sacrifice and ghosts develop. The features of people's belief in ghosts and immortality are reflected in particular burial practices. The popularity of necromancy burials and ghost marriages during the Middle Ages (third to sixth centuries) bring to light the binary antagonism between the soul and the body in burial, as well as the emphasis on spiritual freedom and physical immortality in the life philosophy. This study analyses the legal consciousness of Chinese citizens during the COVID‐19 pandemic when the authoritarian state invoked heavy penalties to deter noncompliance with its excessive COVID‐19 restrictions. China used the approach of "killing the chicken to scare the monkey," publicly punishing those who violated restrictions in order to deter noncompliance. This article explains why ordinary citizens supported this selective application of the law, as well as how the possibility of being the "chicken" contributed to their compliance (or noncompliance) with excessive COVID‐19 restrictions. It suggests that the uncertainty and unpredictability of law in the authoritarian state bred fear, which then led to compliance, regardless of the lack of procedural fairness. People's dissatisfaction with the rules, however, led them to tolerate and even support the noncompliance of people they trusted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The relationship of wu (巫) to shamanism is problematic, with virtually all mentions of historical and contemporary Chinese wu ritualists translated into English as shaman. Ethnological research is presented to illustrate cross-cultural patterns of shamans and other ritualists, providing an etic framework for empirical assessments of resemblances of Chinese ritualists to shamans. This etic framework is further validated with assessments of the relationship of the features with biogenetic bases of ritual, altered states of consciousness, innate intelligences and endogenous healing processes. Key characteristics of the various types of wu and other Chinese ritualists are reviewed and compared with ethnological models of the patterns of ritualists found cross-culturally to illustrate their similarities and contrasts. These comparisons illustrate the resemblances of pre-historic and commoner wu to shamans but additionally illustrate the resemblances of most types of wu to other ritualist types, not shamans. Across Chinese history, wu underwent transformative changes into different types of ritualists, including priests, healers, mediums and sorcerers/witches. A review of contemporary reports on alleged shamans in China also illustrates that only some correspond to the characteristics of shamans found in cross-cultural research and foraging societies. The similarities of most types of wu ritualists to other types of ritualists found cross-culturally illustrate the greater accuracy of translating wu as "ritualist" or "religious ritualist." This study explores the factors influencing consumer attitudes and purchasing intentions towards green agricultural products in China, as consumers have shown increased awareness due to heightened health and wellness consciousness. A random sampling method generated a sample for a questionnaire survey, yielding a response rate of 88.7 percent. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data, including Pearson Correlation and regression analysis. The research found that Chinese consumers exhibit a weakly positive attitude and neutral purchasing intention for green agricultural products. Furthermore, it identified a strong correlation and significant relationships between factors such as awareness, consumption values, social influence, and health consciousness and both attitude and purchase intention. The study also confirmed that attitude positively and significantly impacts purchase intention. As the global warming crisis is increasing daily, it is crucial to find ways to reduce the carbon footprint generated by activities like the production, consumption, and distribution of goods and services. This empirical study has looked at one approach through which environment-friendly production and consumption can be encouraged. The developed model has studied the relationship between retailers' access to green finance and consumer purchase intention of green products by incorporating the role of environmental, status, and future consciousness. Theoretical foundations for this model have been taken from the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and theory of reasoned action (TRA), which have extensively discussed the role of consciousness and societal norms while making purchase intentions. To gain insights about the purchasing behaviour of consumers, this study collected data from the Jiangsu province of China, where a non-probability convenience sampling technique was used to distribute a questionnaire to 400 respondents between February 2022 and August 2022. The collected data was analysed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) in SmartPLS in order to study the relationship between independent and dependent variables. Results of this study show that retailers' access to green finance positively impacts consumer purchase intention towards green products, and adding a consciousness perspective in the model strengthens this relationship. Moreover, the theory of planned behaviour and the theory of reasoned action were validated through this study, providing insights for policymakers on the importance of promoting green finance to influence green product purchase intention. Overall, this study shows that policymakers should give green financing to retailers and environmental and future awareness to consumers to encourage environment-friendly behaviour. Theoretically and methodologically guided by the concept of perezhivanie as a unit of human consciousness, this study explores the changes of a child's consciousness on something, with a focus on instances of repetitiveness found during everyday family play. Two families from mainland China with three-year-old children participated in this study. A total of 56 hours and 40 minutes of visual data were collected through digital video observations and parent interviews. Findings from one family were reported here to better analyse the differences in a child's perezhivanie when he kept doing the same play. The child's re-living in play indicated the changes in his dramatic imaginative actions (defined as a child's perezhivanie and methodologically, which means the unit of the child's consciousness in play) wherein how the child continually reorganized his imaginary formations could be refracted. We argue that the changes of a child's perezhivanie around the same event are meaningful as foregrounding to better understand their refraction process. Summary: This piece presents a narration of a dream by a rural migrant, Yang Cui, who works in the city of Shantou in China. It reveals her inner struggles to end an affair with another migrant worker, Lao Bo. This piece is written as a part of an ethnographic book project on rural–urban migration in China, in which I experiment with different genres of writing in an attempt to address migrants' bewildering existential multiplicity of interior experience, among which some are presented more analytically, some more subjectively, and some more imaginatively. Understanding the human condition in terms of the limits of knowing others and ourselves requires anthropologists to seek creative forms of ethnographic narrative to give shape and voice to existential struggles, ambivalence, and uncertainty of everyday life. This piece attempts to use Yang Cui's narration of her dream as an evocative form of describing her inner struggles being with Lao Bo as a so‐called linshi fuqi ("temporary couple"), through which her self‐knowledge unfolds, reflection takes place, and consciousness finds expression. This article draws from a qualitative study of people's responses to China's population control policies to analyze the relational formation of legal consciousness within and across different types of relationships. It demonstrates that our expectations of others and theirs of us regarding how to respond to law change significantly when we situate ourselves in different types of relationships. The fluid boundaries of relationships in Chinese society also make it essential to think and plan relationally and holistically across different types of relationships to come up with strategies to resist or comply with the law. During this process of relational formation of legal consciousness, law interacts with and reshapes social norms to determine the (un)availability of alternative mechanisms based on the individual's social and financial status. The guidelines of brain death determination vary across countries. Our aim was to compare diagnostic procedures of brain death determination in adults among five countries. Consecutive comatose patients who received brain death determination from June 2018 to June 2020 were included. The technical specifications, completion rates and positive rates of brain death determination according to criteria of different countries were compared. The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of each ancillary test for the identification of brain death diagnosed according to different criteria were investigated. One hundred and ninety nine patients were included in this study. One hundred and thirty one (65.8%) patients were diagnosed with brain death according to French criteria, 132 (66.3%) according to Chinese criteria, and 135 (67.7%) according to criteria of USA, UK and Germany. The sensitivity and PPV of electroencephalogram (92.2% – 92.3%) and somatosensory evoked potential (95.5% – 98.5%) were higher than transcranial Doppler (84.3% – 86.0%). The criteria of brain death in China and France are comparatively stricter than in USA, UK and Germany. The discrepancy in brain death determination between clinical assessments and additional confirmation of ancillary tests is small. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The "People's Films," when examined from the perspective of classical aesthetics, present a unique visual style that creates artistic conceptions through sparse filming and deliver a scenery-based ideology through background shots, contributing to the overall aesthetic taste dominated by plainness. Chinese national aesthetic tastes, distinguished by implicitness, symbolism, and ethereality, have the magical power to present charming conceptions via plain and simple scenes, thus endowing the "People's Films" with natural, plain, and harmonious frames that are unique to China. Behind the silent and plain scenes are representations of personal cultivation and essential values cherished by the Chinese people, which are achieved via the momentary presence and entirety of scenes photographed in the films, delivering an internal transcendence of people's consciousness. Our visual system possesses a remarkable ability to extract summary statistical information from groups of similar objects, known as ensemble perception. It remains elusive whether the processing of ensemble statistics exerts influences on our perceptual decision-making and what roles consciousness and attention play in this process. In a series of experiments, we demonstrated that the processing of ensemble statistics can exert significant modulation effects on our perceptual decision-making, which is independent of consciousness but relies on attentional resources. More intriguingly, the conscious and unconscious ensemble representations respectively induce repulsive and attractive modulation effects, with the unconscious effect susceptible to the temporal separation and the distinction between the inducers and the targets. These results not only suggest that the conscious and unconscious ensemble representations engage different visual processing mechanisms but also highlight the distinct roles of consciousness and attention in ensemble perception. Silence behavior is a common and influential phenomenon in organizations. Scholars have explored a lot of antecedents for silence behavior, but rarely from the perspective of colleagues. Based on the conservation of resources theory and self-regulation theory, the study constructs a double-moderated mediating model to explore the relationship between workplace suspicion and silence behavior as well as its mechanism. This study conducts a three-wave questionnaire survey and adopts 303 valid pairs of samples from 23 companies in China to validate the research hypotheses. A confirmatory factor analysis in the AMOS software and the PROCESS bootstrapping program in SPSS is used in this study. Our findings indicate that workplace suspicion is positively correlated with silence behavior; knowledge hiding mediates the relationship between workplace suspicion and silence behavior; knowledge-based psychological ownership moderates this mediating effect by strengthening the negative impact of workplace suspicion on knowledge hiding; and face consciousness moderates the mediating effect by weakening the positive impact of workplace suspicion on knowledge hiding. Background: This study aimed to compare the consistency of anesthesia consciousness index (Ai) with that of bispectral index (BIS) in monitoring the depth of anesthesia (DOA) during sevoflurane anesthesia, to reveal the optimal cutoff values in different states of consciousness, and explore the stability of DOA monitoring during intraoperative injurious stimulation. Methods: We enrolled 145 patients (97 men and 48 women) from 10 medical centers. General anesthesia was induced using intravenous anesthetics and maintained with sevoflurane. Ai and BIS values were recorded. Results: The mean difference between the Ai and BIS was-0.1747 (95% confidence interval, -0.6660 to 0.3166; p = 0.4857). The regression equation of Ai and BIS from the Deming regression analysis was y = 5.6387 + 0.9067x (y is BIS, x is Ai), and the slope and intercept were statistically significant. Meanwhile, the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of anesthesia-induced unconsciousness, loss of consciousness, and recovery of consciousness revealed that the accuracy of Ai and BIS were similar. In addition, the optimal cutoff values of the different states of consciousness were not sensitive to age, and both Ai and BIS had no correlation with hemodynamics. Conclusion: We conclude that Ai and BIS show no systematic deviation in readings with high consistency, similar accuracy, and good stability; these insights provide more data for clinical application. In 2010, Padma Anagol argued that the first modern feminists in India were Christian women, women such as Laxmibai Tilak and Pandita Ramabai. Using Anagol's definition of feminism as "a theory and practice which presented a challenge to the subordination of women in society and attempted to redress the balance of power between the sexes," this article shows how feminist consciousness was cultivated in Christian schools, churches, hospitals, and organizations in late-nineteenth-century China. Kwok Pui Lan pointed out in 1992 that Christians were the first women in China to band together to fight women's oppression; however, like so many of the claims made about women in global Christianity, this one has not yet been fully appreciated by historians and missiologists. I show how mission schools gave girls access to new models of personhood and womanhood. Likewise, Christian scriptures, churches, and voluntary societies such as the WCTU and YWCA provided space to reflect on gender identity and activism. Through all these avenues, a modest version of Christian feminism was cultivated in China decades before the secular women's movement began in 1900. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Legal consciousness is not a monolithic concept even in the minds of individual actors. Invoking the law is sometimes viewed positively and at other times not. My study reveals that ordinary people in China consider lawsuits seeking divorce to be acceptable but strongly disapprove of lawsuits seeking intergenerational support. My detailed analysis of this sharp contrast suggests that people consider legal mobilization favourably when claims are brought by the 'right' people in the 'right' cases, but that they bitterly oppose it when the 'wrong' people bring the 'wrong' kinds of cases. In this article, I explain how these categories of 'right' and 'wrong' legal claims and plaintiffs come into being and how they shape the legal consciousness of potential litigants in China. Aim: This study aims to explore the mind of Chinese nursing students transitioning to online education in the pandemic using health as expanding consciousness (HEC) as methodology. Design: A qualitative, descriptive study based on interviews. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted from September to November 2021 by students in the Guangzhou university of Chinese medicine. Thirteen participants were recruited using purposive sampling. A questionnaire containing two sections with demographic information, the General Self‐Efficacy Scale (GSES) and the Connor‐Davidson resilience scale (CD‐RISC)‐10 was collected to explore the health of participants. Results: A total of 13 participants were enrolled in the study (69% female). Students ranged in age between 19 and 24 years and the mean age was 22 years. All students lived with their families. Five participants (38%) had a master's degree in nursing, three (23%) were in fourth year of college, four (30%) were in third year of college and one (7%) was in their second year of college respectively. More than half of the participants had high levels of mental toughness and self‐efficacy. Four generic categories were identified form a unitary‐transformative paradigm perspective. The respondents reported three health pattern phases: Curriculum Transformation, Curriculum adaptation and Curriculum expansion. Conclusion: This research backs up Newman's hypothesis, and supports the theoretical framework. HEC explains well the psychology of nursing students during the epidemic. Background: Rapidly increasing health care costs are a widespread problem in the world. The cost-consciousness among Chinese medical staff is an important topic that needs further investigation. Our study aimed to focus on the cost-consciousness of Chinese medical staff and explore the factors related to their cost-consciousness. Differences regarding cost-consciousness between doctors and nurses were also reported.Methods: Eight hospitals in Liaoning Province, China, were surveyed using a self-reporting questionnaire. A total of 1043 respondents, including 635 doctors and 408 nurses, participated in the study. A revised Chinese Cost-consciousness Scale was used to estimate cost-consciousness.Results: The mean score of the Cost-consciousness Scale was 27.60 and 28.18 among doctors and nurses, respectively, and there were no significant differences in any personal characteristics. Most Chinese medical staff were aware of the treatment costs and considered cost control as their responsibility. Chinese doctors disliked adhering to guidelines more and preferred to remain independent in making or denying a treatment decision; thus, they like autonomously balancing the treatment and cost. Chinese nurses have similar attitudes, but nurses tended to deny costly services and interventions and were more sensitive to the health care costs by rationing decisions and uncertainty in their medical practice.Conclusion: We reveal the attitudes regarding cost-consciousness among Chinese medical staff. Chinese medical staff was aware of their responsibility in health cost control. Chinese doctors and nurses had different tendencies with regard to health care cost containment. Background: Sedative gastrointestinal endoscopy is extensively used worldwide. An appropriate degree of sedation leads to more acceptability and satisfaction. Artificial intelligence has rapidly developed in the field of digestive endoscopy in recent years and we have constructed a mature computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system. This system can identify the remaining parts to be examined in real-time endoscopic procedures, which may help anesthetists use anesthetics properly to keep patients in an appropriate degree of sedation. Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the CAD system on anesthesia quality control during gastrointestinal endoscopy. Methods: We recruited 154 consecutive patients at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, including 76 patients in the CAD group and 78 in the control group. Anesthetists in the CAD group were able to see the CAD system's indications, while anesthetists in the control group could not. The primary outcomes included emergence time (from examination completion to spontaneous eye opening when doctors called the patients' names), recovery time (from examination completion to achievement of the primary recovery endpoints) and patient satisfaction scores. The secondary outcomes included anesthesia induction time (from sedative administration to successful sedation), procedure time (from scope insertion to scope withdrawal), total dose of propofol, vital signs, etc. This trial was registered in the Primary Registries of the WHO Registry Network, with registration number ChiCTR2100042621. Results: Emergence time in the CAD group was significantly shorter than that in the control group (p < 0.01). The recovery time was also significantly shorter in the CAD group (p < 0.01). Patients in the CAD group were significantly more satisfied with their sedation than those in control group (p < 0.01). Vital signs were stable during the examinations in both groups. Propofol doses during the examinations were comparable between the two groups. Conclusion: This CAD system possesses great potential for anesthesia quality control. Compared with the original mythological images of Classic of Mountains and Rivers（山海经） and the historized mythological images of the north China, the mythological images in Jiuge（九歌） are more in line with the literary aesthetic appeal: the spirit of the gods is sentimental and the realm of the gods is magnIFicent and touching. It can be seen that with the improvement of aesthetic consciousness, the aesthetic elements of mythology are constantly captured and interpreted, and poets begin to participate in the re-creation of mythology, forming a creative style interwoven with divinity and humanity. Mysterious gods become the spiritual and ideal sustenance of people with lofty ideals. Some previous studies have depicted the law in China as a weapon of resistance for the weak and recent apparently pro-labour national statutes are seen as empowering workers. The law governing the practices of labour relations has, however, become a tool for employers to counter rising labour activism. In this article, a detailed case study illustrates how factory managers used the law to control labour since the strike wave of 2010. The legal framework for labour relations and China's strong state made this new management strategy possible. The law is a combination of labour-related laws, including criminal regulations beyond the labour acts, redolent with inconsistent interpretations and applications. This mixture allows some employers to flexibly deploy the law to discipline workers and constrain collective labour. Consequently, when applied in workplaces, the law is not as labour-friendly as it may appear, but it is so malleable that it may be both the worker's weapon of resistance and the employer's tool of control. This study enriches the understanding of labour relations in China by including employers' strategies and behaviours, which are often neglected in labour studies, and also explores how the macro-level political-legal context shapes workplace dynamics. Objective: To investigate the therapeutic efficacy of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in patients with disorders of consciousness. Design and Setting: We performed a randomized, double-blinded, sham-controlled trial. Participants: Patients (N = 40) with disorders of consciousness. Interventions: Forty patients with disorders of consciousness (time since onset of the disorder 49.0 ± 24.6 days) were enrolled and randomized to groups receiving either active-rTMS or sham-rTMS. The active-TMS protocol had a frequency of 20 Hz, was delivered over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and had a 100% rest motor threshold. The sham-rTMS protocol was the same as the active protocol without magnetic stimulation over the cortex. Main Outcome Measures: Consciousness was evaluated by the Coma Recovery Scale-Revised (CRS-R) before and after the four-week intervention. The ratio of patients that awakened from disorders of consciousness was followed up at discharge. Results: Before rTMS sessions, there were no significant differences in consciousness scores between groups. Compared to sham-rTMS (6.25 ± 1.29), patients with disorders of consciousness treated by active rTMS showed strikingly improved consciousness (8.45 ± 3.55). In-depth analysis revealed that only some patients showed obvious increases in consciousness scores induced by active rTMS. Furthermore, rTMS did not significantly enhance the awakening ratio. Conclusions: rTMS showed therapeutic efficacy for improving consciousness in some, but not all, patients with disorders of consciousness. Conceptual hybridization can occur either through internal evolution, when new historical circumstances invest an existing concept with new semantics, giving rise to a commixture in it of both old and new meanings. It can also occur when a concept is used to translate a foreign idea, creating a composite of native and imported semantics. The new semantics a concept acquires when used to translate foreign ideas are usually more radically heterogeneous to the target culture than those it can engender through internal evolution. Conceptual hybridization effected by translation could thus be revolutionary, as was the case with the Chinese concept geming when used to translate the modern Western concept 'revolution'. However, as is generally the case with conceptual change, the old semantics of geming did not immediately get displaced by the new. More often that not, old semantics linger on, because old institutions and old worldviews continue to hold sway over a people and their language for a period of time, till the old ways of thinking and historical circumstances have disappeared. In the case of geming, an old worldview which prevented an immediate takeover of the concept's old semantics by the new was the traditional Chinese cyclical time in which geming was embedded and from which the concept derived its meaning in pre-modern China. The classical Chinese term geming was used by the Japanese and then readopted by the Chinese to translate the modern western concept 'revolution'. The modern concept was shunned by the Chinese until after 1898. Scholars have so far focused on the contents of traditional Chinese values to explain this initial cold reception. I, by contrast, argue that the cold reception was rooted in the conflicts between the old cyclical and new linear temporalities framing respectively classical and modern gemings, causing the shared sets of contents in the two gemings to be inflected differently by two temporal forms. Before the Chinese could embrace the modern western concept 'revolution', they needed to have first developed the modern western linear time consciousness. My paper examines how the Chinese population's change of heart toward the modern concept of 'revolution' was intertwined with the Chinese assimilation of modern western linear time. I examine how China's embrace of the modern concept of 'revolution' was made possible by its adoption of linear temporality, evident from how the country's new positive stance toward modern geming roughly coincided with its newborn enthusiasm for progress. The article reveals the features of the formation and functioning of aesthetic research in such two areas of Marxism as Chinese and Frankfurt Schools. Proved that in China, culture and the cultural revolution are inextricably linked with the Marxist projects of critiquing capitalist modernity and building alternative modernity. Aesthetics and culture also were at the center of attention in Chinese Marxist circles. In this respect, the diverse practices and designs of Chinese Marxism are similar to those of Western Marxism or an equally distinct variety of Euro-American Marxist intellectual enterprises. Aesthetic Marxism in China had a dual mission - to criticize the internal contradictions of revolutionary hegemony and to offer a constructive vision of culture in a post-revolutionary society. This is the value of Chinese aesthetic Marxism, the implications of which go beyond China proper in the world of global cultural criticism. Moreover, being non-Western, Chinese aesthetic Marxism deliberately questioned the inherent Eurocentrism of Marxism. If this Eurocentrism is to be challenged and problematized, the questions posed by Chinese aesthetic Marxists cannot be ignored. It was revealed that the representatives of Western Marxism, represented by such thinkers of the Frankfurt School as Theodor Adorno and Herbert Marcuse, saw the disclosure of the meaning of art and aesthetic research in general due to the fact that rational thinking initially has a drawback - it is repressive, associated with domination and the will to power. In contrast to this, true art, according to European neo-Marxist philosophers, expresses the truth of human existence in harmonious unity with nature, when a person does not oppose himself to it with his consciousness, but becomes like it and its creative forces. This research investigates the mechanism (Face‐saving consciousness versus status/success‐gaining intention) underlying the effect of financial deprivation on prosocial behaviour among participants in China. A total of three studies were conducted. Findings across the three studies reveal that individuals who were financially deprived (versus privileged) acted in a more prosocial manner. Findings in Studies 1–2 indicate that Face‐saving consciousness, but not status/success‐gaining intention, suitably accounted for the impact of financial deprivation on prosocial behaviour. Furthermore, such an increase in prosocial behaviour was found in a public context, but diminished in a private context, in Study 3. These findings demonstrate the importance of Face‐saving consciousness in the effect of financial deprivation among Chinese. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With an increasing aging population worldwide, loneliness among elderly individuals has become a salient societal problem. Fortunately, the last decade has also witnessed an upsurge in information and communication technology (ICT), which is ubiquitously deployed and integrated into our daily lives, including the lives of elderly people. This research investigates the potential exploitation of well-developed ICT to mitigate loneliness among the elderly. Specifically, we examined the effects of two dimensions of ICT use: communication use and information use. Moreover, we examined the moderating effects of two relevant features in the elderly population, namely, ICT self-efficacy and health consciousness. We applied structural equation modeling (SEM) to evaluate survey data from mainland China comprising 436 effective responses from the elderly population. We find that ICT use has a positive effect on loneliness among the elderly, and our results support and deepen this understanding, indicating that ICT self-efficacy and health consciousness can moderate the relationship between ICT use and loneliness. Our findings suggest that ICT use plays a significant role in mitigating elderly loneliness. Moreover, it is also suggested that the characteristics of ICT self-efficacy and health consciousness for the elderly can influence the relationship between their ICT use and loneliness. This gives a more accurate description, as compared with the main findings in prior literature, that ICT can help mitigate loneliness in the elderly. Finally, by adopting social cognitive theory, our research explains the moderating effect of ICT self-efficacy and health consciousness between the use of ICT by the elderly and their loneliness. The profession of early childhood education is often dismissed as unimportant or unworthy of respect. Preschool teachers’ occupational stigma consciousness has been shown to be associated with lower work engagement, but the mechanism of this association is unclear. Most research has focused on individual or organizational factors, with little consideration of individual-organization interactions. To address this shortcoming, we surveyed 1,672 preschool teachers in Henan Province, China, using the Occupational Stigma Consciousness Scale, Preschool Teacher Work Engagement Questionnaire, Connor‐Davidson Resilience Scale, and Perceived Organizational Support Scale. The results of regression-based analyses supported a moderated mediation model in which preschool teachers’ occupational stigma consciousness predicted lower work engagement through the mediating effect of low resilience. Preschool teachers’ perceived organizational support moderated this process by strengthening the positive association between resilience and work engagement. This study provides insight into the negative impact of occupational stigma consciousness can be mitigated by building resilience and giving organizational support, which has potential applications for the professional development of early childhood education teachers. Facing the new era, we should re-examine and understand the theory of "the pattern of unity in diversity of the Chinese nation" put forward by Fei Hsiao-tung from the historical and cultural perspectives, which will bring us many new insights. The Chinese national consciousness of unity can be understood as "Ge" (格), while "Ju (局) as "layout" and "distribution", which means in the same spatial scope and form of "Ge", how the units within the Chinese nation are laid out and distributed. Under such "Ge" and "Ju" viewpoints, people and goods, nature and society, culture and technology, China and the world, can be connected and integrated so that a reciprocal community with "being together" could possibly come true at last, and cultural self-consciousness, consciousness of the others' cultures and mutual cultural consciousness are inevitable. Centering a genealogy of the image 形象 (xingxiang) in China, this article opens up the task of interpreting Lu Yang's (b.1984) works of animation and sound. To make sense of the artist's scientized preoccupations with disease, neuroscience, and biomedical interventions into brain–body interconnections, I argue that scientific uses of technology become an artistic medium for Lu, inhabiting and encoding his work from the 2010s, in particular Cancer Baby (2014). Framing the digital animation of this piece amid the fraught intellectual history of the image—a concept that carries generations, even millennia, of debate in China—the article offers a set of clues, if not a window direct, to opening up the dynamics of consciousness, materiality, and control in the artist's creative method.
