This article focuses on a study related to the contact allergy to oil of turpentine with a 10-year retrospective view. Sensitivity to turpentine is decreasing in western Europe. No cross-reactions were occurred in guinea pigs sensitized with Chinese or German balsam turpentine. In the study, for patch testing 10% turpentine in olive oil was used. Sources of turpentine sensitivity probably vary across various regions. Turpentine is used in certain floor polishes and liquid cleaners for outdoor monuments.
