Adoption of clean electric energy depends not only on administrative regulations, but also on public support, in particular, the public is willing to pay for environmental improvements. However, the increase of solar photovoltaic power generation willingness to pay (WTP) associated with higher education attainment and the identification of their causality has been missing. Present paper used the enactment of the Compulsory Schooling Law as an instrumental variable to solve the causal relationship between education and willingness to pay for photovoltaic power generation. The results are as follows:Heckman two-stage model and instrumental variable both confirmed that higher education has a positive impact on WTP for solar photovoltaic power generation. For each level of public education in the east, the WTP of photovoltaic power generation will increase by 7.540 CNY, 8.343 CNY and 8.343 CNY respectively, the central public will increase by 9.637 CNY, 10.775 CNY and 11.758 CNY, and the western public will increase by 12.723 CNY, 15.740 CNY and 17.993 CNY respectively. The positive influence of education level is smaller among the people who know the ladder price better, but it is bigger among the people who are male, older than 45 years old, healthier, higher income and stronger awareness of safe electricity use. Previous studies have reported a higher incidence of depression and anxiety in psoriasis patients compared to the general population, which has important implications for assessment and treatment. In this study, we determined the frequency of depression and anxiety in Chinese patients with psoriasis and its relationship with disease severity and other demographic variables. The study included 208 Chinese patients with psoriasis vulgaris. The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7) were used to screen for depression and anxiety. The Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) was used to assess the severity of psoriasis. Of the 208 patients included in the study, 29 patients (13.9%) were positive for moderate-to-severe depression (PHQ-9 ≥ 10) and 22 patients (10.6%) were positive for anxiety (GAD-7 ≥ 10) symptoms. Both positive stress reactors who perceived stress as an exacerbating factor of psoriasis and moderate-to-severe psoriasis were found to be positive predictors for the presence of moderate-to-severe depression or anxiety symptoms while longer duration and late onset age played a protective role. In the sample of Chinese patients with psoriasis there was a clinically significant prevalence of depression and anxiety. Polymeric membrane has been widely used for the treatment of drinking water in China, and the total treating capacity has reached up to 3.8 million m3/d. However, the membrane breakage found in the membrane modules in many water treatment plants resulted in an increase in turbidity and bacterial amount in the membrane permeate. In this study, a membrane module running for 3 years in a full-scale application was examined in terms of the breaking positions and the numbers of the broken fibers. It was found that most of the breaking positions were mainly on the outlet side of the module and that the distance from these points to the outlet was about 1/10–2/10 length of the membrane module. The lab-scale tests showed that the increase of the numbers of the breaking fibers in the membrane module (the breaking fibers were from 1 to 4 of 75 fibers) resulted in the increase in turbidity, particle count and the amount of total bacteria and coliform bacteria. Meanwhile, the water quality after the filtration with broken membrane fibers was similar to the quality of the raw water, which indicated that once the membrane fiber breakage occurred in the membrane module, the quality of drinking water after membrane filtration was significantly affected. Furthermore, the breaking position closer to the outlet side of the membrane module exposed much higher microbiological risk than those in the middle or near the bottom side. A pilot scale test was conducted by using a membrane module with 6600 fibers, and the effect of the membrane breakage (1–4 broken fibers) on water quality was also investigated. The results indicated that periodical backwashing caused drastic fluctuation of turbidity, particle count and the bacterial amount in the permeate water, which might be due to the washing force and self-blocking action inside the hollow fibers. Moreover, there is a good quantitative relationship (R2= 0.945) between particle count and the bacterial amount, which indicated that an online detection of particle count can be used to evaluate the bacterial risk. It was also suggested that the online detection of particle count after backwashing within 100 s would be a quick and precise method to identify any fiber breakage in time. An ecological engineering project with confined growth of 1.5 km of Eichhornia crassipes was implemented to remove pollutants in Lake Dianchi. To assess the ecological effects of this project on benthic macroinvertebrate assemblages, a 1-year investigation at the areas inside and outside E. crassipes mats was conducted from May 2013 to May 2014. All the 10 sampling sites in the areas were grouped into two statistically significant clusters mainly corresponding to inside and outside E. crassipes mat areas (EMAs), by clustering analysis. E. crassipes reduced the densities of pollution indicator taxa (e.g., Oligochaeta and Chironomidae larvae); thus, the total densities of benthic macroinvertebrates at the area inside EMAs (mean 328.2 ind./m) were slightly lower than that at the area outside EMAs (mean 505.6 ind./m). Four functional feeding groups including 38 species of benthic macroinvertebrates were collected at the area inside EMAs, while only three functional feeding groups containing 17 species were collected at the area outside EMAs. The biodiversity indices (Shannon-Weiner, Margalef, Simpson, and Peilou indices) and K-dominance curves also showed higher diversity of benthic macroinvertebrates at the area inside EMAs than at the area outside EMAs. These results suggested that a certain scale of engineering application of E. crassipes was beneficial to benthic macroinvertebrate communities in the ultra-eutrophic Lake Dianchi and it could be used as a pioneer species in ultra-eutrophic lake for pollutant removal. Organic UV filters (OUV-Fs) are increasingly used for protection against UV irradiation. The widespread occurrence of OUV-Fs residues in aquatic systems has been reported, but little is known regarding their distribution and potential impact to the surface water in China. This study reports the occurrence, distribution and risk assessment of eight widely used OUV-Fs in the surface water of Nanjing. The results indicated butyl-methoxydibenzoylmethane, octyl-dimethyl-PABA and benzophenone-types (BP3, BP4 and BP1) were the most frequently detected compounds at concentrations of 3.63-104 ng/L. In general, the concentrations of OUV-Fs were decreased along the rivers; however, due to a substantial pollution load from the tributaries, higher concentrations of OUV-Fs were observed near the tributary inlet, compared to the other study areas. The risk assessment based on the calculated risk quotients (RQs) demonstrated that all OUV-Fs posed at least low risks to certain sensitive aquatic organisms, and BP3 posed high risk with RQ values of 1.64. It should be noted that the exclusion of adsorbed OUV-Fs might have contributed to an underestimation of the risk, therefore, it's necessary to assess both adsorbed and dissolved OUV-Fs in further studies. Several factors play a role in chlorine consumption in drinking water networks such as microbial contamination and dissolved organic matter (DOM). This study investigated the simultaneous impacts of seasonal variations on chlorine consumption and DOM composition for a year-long period in three different full-scale water distribution networks in a southern city of China. Efforts were made to determine the association between different fluorescence moieties in DOM of finished water and chlorine consumption through excitation-emission matrix coupled with parallel factor analysis (EEM-PARAFAC). The chlorine consumption was also found to be directly related to N -Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) and NDMA-formation potential (NDMA-FP), presenting consequence of excess residual chlorine. The wet season with high rainfall showed elevated consumption of chlorine on the opposite of dry season. During wet season, humic-like component in finished water was dominant than protein-like features and its abundance decreased in dry season. Results proved that chlorine consumption was season dependent and highly influenced by DOM composition in the finished water. Unlike the bulk quality parameters and protein-like component, fluorescence moieties related to humic substances acted as a surrogate for the chlorine consumption. Based on humic-like component, a single excitation based fluorescence peak, I 245/410 or I 335/410 , was also extracted from EEMs of finished water samples and validated on different water distribution networks. These two single peaks well-explained the trends of residual chlorine and have the potential for on-line monitoring and portable purposes. N -nitrosamines have been identified as emerging contaminants with tremendous carcinogenic potential for human beings. This study examined the seasonal changes in the occurrence of N -nitrosamines and N -nitrosodimethylamine formation potential (NDMA-FP) in drinking water resources and potable water from 10 drinking water treatment plants in a southern city of China. The changes in N -nitrosamines are well correlated with dissolved organic matter (DOM), particularly fluorophores, which were measured and compared between traditional fluorescence indices and excitation-emission matrix coupled with parallel factor analysis (EEM-PARAFAC). Four of N -nitrosamine species including N -nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), N -Nitrosodibutylamine (NDBA), N -Nitrosopyrrolidine (NPYR), and N -Nitrosodiphenylamine (NDPhA) are found to be abundant compounds with an average of 29.5% (26.7%), 20.0% (25.2%), 18.9% (16.0%), and 9.0% (9.9%) in the source (and treated) water, respectively. The sum of N -nitrosamines concentration is recorded to be low in the wet season (July–September), whereas the dry season (October–December) provided opposite impacts. EEM-PARAFAC modeling indicated the predominance of humic-like component (C1) in the wet season while in the dry season the water was dominant in protein-like component (C2). All the N -nitrosamines excluding NDPhA and N -Nitrosomorpholine (NMOR) showed a strong association with protein-like component (C2). In contrast, humic-like C1, which was directly influenced by rainfall, was found to be a suitable proxy for NMOR and NDPhA. Based on 491 farmers joining in cooperatives microscopic data in Jiangxi Province,the paper uses Ordinary Least Squares to test the influence mechanism of cooperative green production on green performance, and takes environmental regulation as a regulatory variable to explore the relationship between cooperative green production and cooperative green performance. The results have shown that: (1) The green production cooperatives have a significant positive impact on their green performance, and the impact of green production on economic performance, social performance and ecological performance gradually strengthens from weak to strong; (2) Environmental regulations have a positive regulatory effect on the relationship between cooperative green production and cooperative green performance, among which three types of environmental regulations, namely, incentive, restraint and guided, can strengthen the positive relationship between green production and green performance., (© 2024. The occurrence of mutagenic and carcinogenic N-nitrosamines in drinking water is of great concern. In this study, dynamics and removal of nine N-nitrosamines in three drinking water treatment systems of a southern city of China are monitored during one year of sampling. The impacts of physicochemical treatment units on the removal and generation of N-nitrosamines were evaluated. The O 3 and KMnO 4 based pre-oxidation units have caused an increase in N-nitrosamines concentration, with O 3 showing the substantial generation of N-nitrosamines. The carbon filter and ultrafiltration membrane units were found effective in removing N-nitrosamine precursors. These drinking water treatment systems have been useful in removing N-nitrosamine precursors; meanwhile, a slight decrease was found in already formed N-nitrosamines concentration. However, N-nitrosomorpholine (NMOR) and N-nitrosodiphenylamine (NDPhA) were found resistant toward all kinds of physicochemical treatments, and negligible changes in concentration were noted in all drinking water treatment systems. The distribution networks in the city provided an effective contact period to residual chlorine and precursors, which caused an increase in N-nitrosamines concentration. Delivering drinking water with stable quality in metropolitan cities is a big challenge. This study investigated the year-long dynamics of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in the tap water and source water of a metropolitan city in southern China using fluorescence spectroscopy. The DOM detected in the tap water, and source water of Shenzhen city was season and location-dependent. A year-long cyclic trend of DOM was found with predominate protein-like fluorescence in the dry season compared to the humic-like enriched DOM in the wet season. A general DOM pattern was estimated by measuring the shift in dominant fluorescence regions on the excitation-emission matrix (EEM). The difference in fluorescent DOM (FDOM) composition (in terms of the ratio of protein-like to humic-like fluorescence) was above 200% between wet and dry seasons. The taps associated with reservoirs receiving water from the eastern tributary of Dongjiang River showed significant changes in protein-like contents than the taps with source water originating from the western part of the river. Background: To retrospectively analyze the pulmonary computed tomography (CT) characteristics and dynamic changes in the lungs of cured coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients at discharge and reexamination., Methods: A total of 155 cured COVID-19 patients admitted to designated hospitals in Yunnan Province, China, from February 1, 2020, to March 20, 2020, were included. All patients underwent pulmonary CT at discharge and at 2 weeks after discharge (during reexamination at hospital). A retrospective analysis was performed using these two pulmonary CT scans of the cured patients to observe changes in the number, distribution, morphology, and density of lesions., Results: At discharge, the lung CT images of 15 cured patients showed no obvious lesions, while those of the remaining 140 patients showed different degrees of residual lesions. Patients with moderate disease mostly had multiple pulmonary lesions, mainly in the lower lobes of both lungs. At reexamination, the lung lesions in the patients with moderate disease had significantly improved (P<0.05), and the lung lesions in the patients with severe disease had partially improved, especially in patients with multi-lobe involvement (χ 2 =3.956, P<0.05). At reexamination, the lung lesions of patients with severe disease did not show significant changes (P>0.05)., Conclusions: The pulmonary CT manifestations of cured COVID-19 patients had certain characteristics and variation patterns, providing a reference for the clinical evaluation of treatment efficacy and prognosis of patients.

This study aims to extend and demonstrate the application of fluorescence spectroscopy for monitoring the water quality of three differently operated full-scale drinking water treatment plants located in the Shenzhen city (China). A ratio of fluorescent dissolved organic matter (FDOM), which describes relative changes in humic-like to protein-like fluorescence, was used to explain mechanisms behind the physicochemical processes. The fluorescence components obtained through individual and combined parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) modeling revealed the presence of humic-like (C1) and protein-like (C2) structures in the DOM. The C1/C2 ratio provided a direct relationship between the seasonal variations and DOM composition. Wet season generated DOM enriched with humic-like fluorescence, while dry season caused a higher release of protein-like fluorescence. The fluorescence ratio presented unique patterns of DOM in treatment trains. The chemical pretreatment and disinfection unit processes showed a higher tendency to remove the humic-like fluorescence. However, the C1/C2 ratio increased during physical treatment processes such as coagulation-precipitation and sand filtration, indicating preferential removal of protein-like fluorescence. The DOM composition in influent directly (R 2  = 0.77) influenced the relative intensities of fluorescence components in the treated water. Compared to the dry season, the wet season caused significant changes in DOM composition and produced treated water enriched with humic-like fluorescence. Psoriasis-2 (PSORS2) is caused by the heterozygous mutation of the caspase recruitment domain 14 ( CARD14 ) gene on chromosome 17q25. To evaluate the contribution of CARD14 variants in psoriasis of the Chinese Han population, we performed deep sequencing of the CARD14 gene in 372 Chinese Han patients with psoriasis. The exonic nucleotide variants were confirmed by Sanger sequencing in the affected individuals and 1114 controls. In 27 patients with psoriasis, we identified 15 variations, including three novel variants: c.381C[G (p.Cys127Trp), c.712A[G (p.Met238Val) and c.2260&#95;2261delinsGG (p.Gln754Gly). These findings could enrich and update the Human Gene Mutation Database of CARD14 variants for psoriasis.

Importance: It is necessary to determine whether psoriasis responds to methotrexate in the same manner in patients with and without psoriatic arthritis., Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of methotrexate in treating patients with psoriasis with and without psoriatic arthritis., Design, Setting, and Participants: In this prospective, single-arm, interventional study, a total of 235 patients with psoriasis, 107 without psoriatic arthritis and 128 with psoriatic arthritis who were receiving methotrexate therapy from April 1, 2015, to December 31, 2017, were recruited from the outpatient department of a hospital at a large Chinese university. There were no significant demographic or clinical differences between the subgroups with the exception of diabetes., Interventions: A 12-week course of low-dosage oral methotrexate (7.5-15 mg weekly)., Main Outcomes and Measures: Changes in disease severity, adverse events, blood cell counts, and liver and renal function., Results: A total of 235 patients with psoriasis (166 male [66.0%]; mean [SD] age, 49.6 [15.1] years) received methotrexate treatment for 12 weeks. The 90% reduction from baseline Psoriasis Area Severity Index response was significantly lower in patients with psoriatic arthritis than in patients without psoriatic arthritis at week 8 (4 0f 128 [3.1%] vs 12 of 107 [11.2%]; P = .02) and week 12 (19 of 128 [14.8%] vs 27 of 107 [25.2%]; P = .049). Furthermore, the incidence of adverse events, including dizziness (12 of 128 [9.4%] vs 1 of 107 [0.9%]; P = .007), gastrointestinal symptoms (32 of 128 [25.0%] vs 13 of 107 [12.1%]; P = .01), and hepatoxicity (34 of 128 [26.6%] vs 16 of 107 [15.0%]; P = .04), was significantly higher in patients with psoriatic arthritis than in patients without psoriatic arthritis. Methotrexate-induced elevation of alanine aminotransferase levels was associated with body mass index (mean [SD] body mass index, 26 [4] in patients with [P = .04] vs 26 [4] in those without [P = .005] psoriatic arthritis) and smoking (17 of 34 [50.0%] in patients with [P = .02] vs 9 of 16 [56.3%] in those without [P = .04] psoriatic arthritis)., Conclusions and Relevance: In this study, methotrexate was well tolerated and effective in treating psoriasis. It was more effective, with fewer adverse effects, in patients with psoriasis who did not have psoriatic arthritis than in patients who presented with both psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Therefore, methotrexate can be recommended as first-line treatment for psoriasis without arthritis.

The occurrence, bioaccumulation and risk assessment of lipophilic pharmaceutically active compounds (LPhACs), such as antibiotics (roxithromycin, erythromycin and ketoconazole), anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen and diclofenac), β-blockers (propranolol), antiepileptics (carbamazepine) and steroid hormones (17α-ethinylestradiol), were investigated in the downstream rivers of sewage treatment plants in Nanjing, China. The results indicate that these LPhACs were widely detected in the surface water and fish samples, with the mean concentrations of the total LPhACs (ΣLPhACs) being in the range of 15.4 and 384.5 ng/L and 3.0 and 128.4 ng/g (wet weight), respectively. The bioaccumulation of the ΣLPhACs in wild fish tissues was generally in the order the liver>brain>gill>muscle. Among the target LPhACs, however, an interspecies difference in tissue distribution was evident for erythromycin. The bioaccumulation factors of LPhACs in the liver and brain, the two major targeted storage sites for toxicants, exhibited an obvious negative correlation with the aquatic concentrations (P<0.05). Finally, risk quotients posed by pharmaceuticals were assessed by comprehensive and comparative methods for different aquatic organisms (algae, daphnids and fish). The overall relative order of susceptibility was estimated to be algae>daphnids>fish. However, the results indicate that diclofenac, ibuprofen and 17α-ethinylestradiol each posed chronic risks for high trophic level organisms (fish). In all of the risk assessments, erythromycin was found to be the most harmful for the most sensitive algae group. In this work, however, the total BAF and toxicological interactions of pharmaceuticals were not performed due to the lack of metabolite information and combined toxicity data, which represents a major hindrance to the effective risk assessment of pharmaceuticals., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier B.V. Disseminated superficial actinic porokeratosis (DSAP) is an uncommon autosomal dominant chronic keratinization disorder, characterized by multiple superficial keratotic lesions surrounded by a slightly raised keratotic border. Thus far, although two loci for DSAP have been identified, the genetic basis and pathogenesis of this disorder have not been elucidated yet. In this study, we performed a genome-wide linkage analysis in three Chinese affected families and localized the gene in an 8.0 cM interval defined by D12S330 and D12S354 on chromosome 12. Upon screening 30 candidate genes, we identified a missense mutation, p.Ser63Asn in SSH1 in one family, a frameshift mutation, p.Ser19CysfsX24 in an alternative variant (isoform f) of SSH1 in another family, and a frameshift mutation, p.Pro27ProfsX54 in the same alternative variant in one non-familial case with DSAP. SSH1 encodes a phosphatase that plays a pivotal role in actin dynamics.
