The activity characteristics of the village and its symbiotic relationship with the environment play an important role in the sustainable development of the surrounding environment. Miao villages have a long history. In the process of long-term interaction with the surrounding natural environment, Miao villages have formed a unique forest culture, which has an important impact on the distribution of the surrounding forests and plays a crucial role in local forest management. In this study, we took the Miao villages of China that are distributed in Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture of China as an example and constructed a research framework to study the interaction between the natural environment and human activities around the Miao villages and its impact on forest change based on partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and geographically weighted regression modeling (GWR) methods. The validity and reliability evaluations showed that the PLS-SEM model was reasonable. The results showed that the Miao villages were randomly distributed within 0–2 km and clustered in the 8–10 km buffer zone. The temporal variation of the forest landscape around the Miao villages was small, and the spatial heterogeneity was obvious. Within the 0~2 km buffer zone, the proportion of closed-canopy forest was the largest, and with the increase in the buffer zone radius, the proportion of closed-canopy forest gradually decreased, the open-canopy forest gradually grew, and the proportion of shrubbery and other forests showed an upward trend first and then a downward trend. Temporally, the four forest landscapes did not change much, with closed and open forests sliding, and shrubbery and other forests increasing. Regarding the drivers of forest structure change, topographic factors and landscape patterns had a positive effect on forest structure, while human activities had a negative effect. The influence of topography on human activities in the Miao villages weakened the direct positive effect of topography on forests and promoted the positive effect of the landscape pattern on forests. There were significant spatial differences in the GWR regression coefficients of the effects of different factors on forest structure in 2020, with a pivotal negative correlation between NDVI and night-time light data. In addition, the higher the elevation, the more unfavorable the distribution of open-canopy forests and the better the distribution of closed-canopy forests. The higher the slope, the higher the NDVI but the more unfavorable the distribution of closed-canopy forests. In general, the impacts of Miao villages on forest structure are highly complex and interactive, with both direct and indirect effects. Different factors interact to affect the structure of the forest. The study on the effect of Miao villages on forests is helpful for more targeted forest protection and the formulation of laws and regulations, so as to find a balance between human activities and forest management, in order to maintain the ecological balance of local areas. This study introduced the PLS-SEM model to investigate the impacts of Miao villages on forest structure, which effectively enhanced our understanding of the drivers and impacts of forest change and provides theoretical support and a basis for forest protection and management. This study investigated the antimicrobial susceptibility of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolated from cases of subclinical bovine mastitis in China, as well as resistance mechanisms and virulence genes encoding adhesins and toxins. We determined antimicrobial susceptibility using the disk diffusion method, and analyzed resistance, adhesin, and toxin genes using PCR. We confirmed MRSA in 73 of 498 (14.7%) Staph. aureus isolates recovered from subclinical mastitic milk samples. All isolates were positive for mecA. The MRSA isolates showed high resistance to penicillin (100.0%), gentamicin (100.0%), and tetracycline (98.6%). All MRSA isolates harbored resistance genes blaZ (penicillin), aacA/aphD (gentamicin), and tetM (alone or in combination with tetK , tetracycline). Moreover, all isolates carried the adhesin genes fnbpA , clfA , clfB , cna , sdrE , and map/eap , and most carried sdrC (98.6%), sdrD (95.9%), bbp (94.5%), and ebpS (80.8%). The toxin genes seh , hla , and hld were present in all isolates, and most isolates carried sea (71.2%), seg (84.9%), sei (82.2%), lukE-lukD (97.3%), and hlg (72.6%). These findings of high-level resistance to antimicrobials commonly used in dairy cattle should lead to calls for antibiogram analysis before antimicrobial therapy. Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide, especially in China, with high metastasis and poor prognosis. Recently, as the core component of the polycomb repressive complexes 1 (PRC1), chromobox protein homolog 8 (CBX8) is considered as an oncogene and prognostic marker in HCC. Methods: A tissue microarray of 166 paired HCC and adjacent non-tumor samples were collected to identify the relationship between CBX8 and epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) associated proteins by Spearman correlation analysis. Knock-down of CBX8 in HCC cells was conducted to detect the biologic functions of CBX8 in HCC metastasis. Results: We found out that CBX8 was over-expressed in HCC and its expression was closely related to the metastasis of HCC patients. In addition, knock-down of CBX8 was found to inhibit the invasion and migration ability of HCC cells. Moreover, there was a significant relationship between expression of CBX8 and EMT associated proteins both in HCC cells and tumor tissues. China faces increasingly severe water stress from its limited, unevenly distributed water resources and rapid economic growth. Interregional trade of goods and services within China further leads to a redistribution of water resources through virtual water transfers. Such virtual transfers are subject to constant changes due to the temporal variabilities in driving factors such as production efficiency, consumption patterns and population. Here we use the most recent public data to measure the water footprints of 31 provincial-level regions in China and virtual water transfers among these regions in 2012. We find that virtual water transfer plays a significant role in regional water footprints and greatly changes the allocation of water resources towards regional consumptions. Already water-scarce north China regions benefit from virtual water transfer by outsourcing water-intensive products from other regions. However, the water-scarce Northwest China suffers from virtual water transfer by exporting water-intensive products. We suggest policy makers pay attention to demand-side measures to incentivize parties to improve water efficiency in their production and reduce the consumption of water-intensive goods. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial resistance and virulence genes of Enterococcus faecalis isolated from subclinical bovine mastitis cases in China. Enterococcus faecalis isolates were identified by 16S rRNA amplification and sequencing. Antimicrobial susceptibility was determined by the disc diffusion method. Antimicrobial resistance and virulence genes were tested by PCR. Overall, E. faecalis was recovered from 81 of 1,787 (4.5%) mastitic milk samples. The isolates showed high resistance against tetracycline (87.7%) and erythromycin (79.0%). The most prevalent resistance genes found in the E. faecalis were tetK (96.3%), tetL (79.0%), and tetM (87.7%) for tetracycline and ermC (97.5%) for erythromycin. Moreover, gelE (70.4%), esp (85.2%), efaA (91.4%) were the most common virulence genes. This is the first report to characterize E. faecalis recovered from subclinical bovine mastitis cases in China. Rapid economic development and accelerated urbanization have seriously affected the development of traditional ethnic villages in China. We used the minimum cumulative resistance (MCR) model based on land use, landscape pattern, and ecosystem service value (ESV) to evaluate the spatio-temporal dynamics of sustainable development in Hani traditional ethnic villages from 1995 to 2020. By analyzing changes in sustainability indicators in the Hani area and different buffer zones, this paper aims to assess the impact of ethnic villages in the Hani Area on sustainable development and provide recommendations for the sustainable development of traditional ethnic Hani villages. The results indicated that: (1) The area of construction land and landscape fragmentation in the Hani area significantly increased and the value of ecosystem services and levels of sustainable development decreased each year during the study period; (2) The area of cropland in the 2 km buffer zone of the traditional ethnic villages increased, the degree of landscape fragmentation, the value of ecosystem services, and the level of sustainable development were lower than in the 4 km buffer zone during the study period. This is due to population increases in traditional ethnic Hani villages, as well as the intensive reclamation of cropland, increased construction land, and landscape fragmentation. This study aimed to investigate the expression and clinical significance of chemokine-like factor-like MARVEL transmembrane domain-containing family member 2 (CMTM2) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues. Bioinformatics analysis showed that CMTM2 was downregulated in HCC tissues and correlated with vascular invasion of HCC patients. The immunohistochemistry (IHC) method found that CMTM2 expression was negative in 29/75 (38.67%) cases of HCC tissues and 13/75 (17.33%) cases of paracancerous tissues, also showed a significantly lower expression of CMTM2 in HCC tissues than the paired paracancerous tissues ( p  < 0.05). Moreover, CMTM2 expression was significantly correlated with tumor grade of HCC patients ( p  < 0.05), but had no relationship with other clinicopathological features. In addition, multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that tumor grade was an independent risk factor for CMTM2 expression. The survival time of HCC patients between high and low expression of CMTM2 had no difference by bioinformatics analysis, but the IHC result showed that the negative expression of CMTM2 was related to a poor prognosis of HCC patients. Further COX regression analysis showed that CMTM2 expression was an independent protective factor for the prognosis of HCC patients. We identify that CMTM2 is downregulated in HCC tissues and correlated with the prognosis of HCC patients, suggesting a potential tumor suppressor role of CMTM2 in HCC progression.
