Previous research has looked into educational approaches to prevent plagiarism in academic writing, yielding insights into how plagiarism can be avoided. However, plagiarism remains a major problem in the education sector. We designed a training module that includes a customised Online Scaffolding Writing System (OSWS) to help faculty teach undergraduates how to avoid committing plagiarism in their academic writing. A quasi-experimental design was used to analyse the plagiarism-related perceptions and behavioural changes of 121 undergraduate students and to test the effects of the new module on students' academic writing. The experimental group performed significantly better than the control group in terms of decreasing the extent of plagiarism in their writing (with a mean decrease from a moderate to minor level of plagiarism), and improving their writing quality (with a mean increase of 18 percentage points in writing scores). Furthermore, more than 95% of the students in the experimental group and their instructor reported that they valued the benefits of adopting the training module in class, and almost 90% of them expressed high levels of satisfaction with the learning they had obtained from the OSWS. This study also provides insights into how the new training module can be implemented across disciplines.

Defluoridation of coal mining water is of great significance for sustainable development of coal industry in western China. A novel one-step mechanochemical method was developed to prepare polymeric aluminum modified powder activated carbon (PAC) for effective fluoride removal from coal mining water. Aluminum was stably loaded on the PAC through facile solid-phase reaction between polymeric aluminum (polyaluminum chloride (PACl) or polyaluminum ferric chloride (PAFC)) and PAC (1:15 W/W). Fluoride adsorption on PACl and PAFC modified PAC (C-PACl and C-PAFC) all reached equilibrium within 5 min, at rate of 2.56 g mg-1 sec-1 and 1.31 g mg-1 sec-1 respectively. Larger increase of binding energy of Al on C-PACl (Al F bond: 76.64 eV and Al FOH bond: 77.70 eV) relative to that of Al on C-PAFC (Al F bond: 76.52 eV) explained higher fluoride uptake capacity of C-PACl. Less chloride was released from C-PACl than that from C-PAFC due to its higher proportion of covalent chlorine and lower proportion of ionic chlorine. The elements mapping and atomic composition proved the stability of Al loaded on the PAC as well as the enrichment of fluoride on both C-PACl and C-PAFC. The Bader charge, formation energy and bond length obtained from DFT computational results explained the fluoride adsorption mechanism further. The carbon emission was 7.73 kg CO 2 -eq/kg adsorbent prepared through mechanochemical process, which was as low as 1:82.3 to 1:8.07 × 104 compared with the ones prepared by conventional hydrothermal methods. Background: Episodic future thinking (EFT), which refers to people simulating possible future life events, has been suggested as a promising intervention for substance use disorders. Objectives: To examine the effect of gain-oriented and loss-oriented EFT on smoking cessation and its underlying mechanisms. Results: Two online experiments were conducted (Total N = 362). The results suggested that engaging in EFT led to increased short-term quitting behavior among smokers by bolstering their intentions to quit smoking (indirect effect = 0.10, bootstrap = 5000, bias-corrected 95% CI [0.0008, 0.2353]). Furthermore, the influence of EFT on quitting intention was mediated by anticipated regret (indirect effect = 0.37, bootstrap = 5000, bias-corrected 95% CI [0.2062, 0.5321]). There were no significant differences observed between the effects of gain-oriented and loss-oriented EFT on quitting intention (F = 0.28, p =.60). Importance: Our findings contribute to a growing body of literature on the adaptive functioning of EFT and lend support to the regret regulation theory. Numerous qualitative studies, mostly with English speaking Westerners, have shown the important role of storytelling and values in promoting resilience. However, this quantitative study helps fill the gaps in the research, by investigating the mediator effects of storytelling on values and resilience of American, German, Chinese, and Vietnamese prospective teachers. The study, using path analysis, investigated how cultural differences influenced perceptions about storytelling, resilience and values. Open to change values of stimulation, self-direction, hedonism and universalism had the largest associations in the Final Model. The results of the multiple group analyses showed that the Final Model path estimates were invariant across cultural groups, but the error variances of the mean values were not invariant. Individual differences accounted for the variance more than cultural differences. The implications for educators, desiring to leverage literacy instruction with storytelling, are discussed.

The scientific question of precisely determining the northern boundary of the Qinling Orogenic Belt (QOB) with regard to the southern segment of the North China Craton (S-NCC) has been controversial and unresolved, as it is heavily covered by loess and lacks some geological evidence. In order to identify the concrete northern boundary of the QOB, this paper first reports the metabasalt discovered in the Qianhe River Basin in Northwestern China, on the foundation of petrography, mineralogy, geochronology and geochemistry analyses. Detailed regional geological survey presents that the Qianhe metabasalt (QMB) is in unconformable contact with the Mesoproterozoic Gaoshanhe Group. Moreover, there is the new laser ablation (LA) inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) U-Pb dating for magmatic zircons that yielded a weighted mean age of 450 ± 9 Ma, revealing that the QMB occurred in the Late Ordovician rather than that in the Mesoproterozoic period as previously considered. Both major and trace elements show that the samples are characterized by the back-arc basin (BAB) basalt affinity. In addition, combined with the regional geology analysis, it stands to reason that the QMB is very similar to those of Ordovician Caotangou Group along the northern QOB (N-QOB). Accordingly, it is illuminated that the QMB belonging to the N-QOB, is more likely originated from the back-arc basin setting, and truly defines the QOB's northern boundary in this segment, which has prominent geoscientific significance for determining the tectonic boundary in the heavily loess-covered regions. Making rate transient analysis (RTA) and formation evaluation for multi-fractured tight gas wells has always been a difficult problem. This is because the fluid flow in the formation has multiple nonlinear flow mechanisms, including gas-water two-phase flow, gas slippage, low-velocity non-Darcy flow, and stress-dependent permeability. In this paper, a novel RTA method is proposed for multi-fractured wells in tight gas reservoirs incorporating nonlinear flow mechanisms. The RTA method is based on an analytical model, which is modified from the classical trilinear flow model by considering all the nonlinear flow mechanisms. The concept of material balance time and normalized rate is used to process the production data for both water and gas phases. The techniques of approximate solutions in linear/bilinear flow regimes and type curve fitting are combined in the proposed RTA method. After that, the rate transient behaviors and influencing factors of multi-fractured tight gas wells are analyzed. A field case from Northwestern China is used to test the efficiency and practicability of the proposed RTA method. The results show that six flow regimes for both gas and water production performances are exhibited on the log-log plots of normalized production rate against material balance time. The rate transient responses are sensitive to the nonlinear flow mechanisms, and formation and fracture properties. The medium flow regimes are significantly affected by fracture number, fracture conductivity, fracture half-length, stress-dependent permeability, gas-water two-phase flow, and formation permeability, which should be considered in making RTA of fractured tight gas wells. The field case shows that both gas and water production performances can be well-fitted using the proposed RTA method. The major innovation of this paper is that a novel RTA method is proposed for fractured tight gas wells considering multiple nonlinear flow mechanisms, and it can be used to make reasonable formation and fracturing evaluations in the field. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the infection status of Omicron in the population and the association between COVID-19 vaccination and infection with Omicron. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study to openly recruit participants for a survey of SARS-CoV-2 infection by convenience sampling from 1 January to 15 January 2023 after a COVID-19 pandemic swept across China. Additionally, the binary logistic regression model was adopted to evaluate the association between COVID-19 vaccination and the infection outcomes or symptom severity, respectively. Meanwhile, the relations between the vaccination and duration of the symptoms were estimated via ordinal logistic analysis. Results: Of the 2007 participants, the prevalence of infection with Omicron was 82.9%. Compared with unvaccinated individuals, inactivated COVID-19 vaccination could increase the risk of Omicron infection (OR = 1.942, 95% CI: 1.093–3.448), and the receipt of at least one dose of non-inactivated COVID-19 vaccines was a protective factor against infection (OR = 0.428, 95% CI: 0.226–0.812). By contrast, no relations were observed in COVID-19 vaccination with the symptoms of infection and duration of symptoms (p > 0.05). Conclusions: This cross-sectional study concluded that inactivated COVID-19 vaccination might increase the risk of Omicron infection, which should be a concern during COVID-19 vaccination and the treatment of variant infections in the future, and the receipt of at least one dose of non-inactivated COVID-19 vaccine was a protective factor against infection. Spodoptera litura is a major pest of tobacco crop in China. The long-term chemical application not only failed to control it but also had a severe impact on the environment. To study the inoculative field release methods of Telenomus remus about release factors, the egg mass of S. litura as the main method was chosen. Here, we aimed to explore the optimal proportion, device type, time, density and diffusion distance by highlighting the parasitic rate, rate of emergence and sex ratio of T. remus. We found that the highest parasitism rate was obtained 77.95, 71.68, 67.61 and 57.87% for ratio (wasps/hosts 1:10), days (within 1 day), egg age (within 0 hours), and dispersal distance (within 5 m), respectively. The highest emergence rate of T. remus (96.38%) was observed when the parasitized eggs were placed in transparent perforated plastic bottles. The blue and yellow sticky cards placed in the lower part of tobacco leaves had the least effect on the diffusion of T. remus, only stacked by 14 and 15 individuals respectively; along with the lowest feeding rate by Nesidiocoris tenuis (28.73%), which was observed on egg mass covered by scale layer. From the perspective of high production and low-cost technology, we conclude that these findings will establish a robust groundwork for deploying T. remus in heavy infested areas of S. litura for its management. Entrepreneurship Education in Colleges and universities is a profound reform of China's higher education paradigm. Which is a necessary choice for Chinese universities to break through the traditional educational model. It is an important measure to cultivate college students' entrepreneurial consciousness, entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial ability. On the whole, entrepreneurship education in China is still in the stage of exploration and rapid development. It is great practical significance and theoretical value to clarify the relationship between the entrepreneurship education quality and entrepreneurial intention. Based on this, this paper takes the social sciences, engineering and science students as the research object, and empirically explores the relationship among the entrepreneurship education quality, entrepreneurial orientation, entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention. We find that: (1) the quality of entrepreneurship education will positively affect entrepreneurial intention, and entrepreneurial self-efficacy plays as an intermediary role; (2) the relationship between the quality of entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial self-efficacy will be affected by the adjustment of entrepreneurial orientation, the stronger the level of entrepreneurial orientation, the stronger the positive relationship between the entrepreneurship education quality and entrepreneurial self-efficacy; (3) the stronger the level of entrepreneurial orientation, the stronger the mediating effect between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention.

The dynamic characteristics of the filler are intricately linked to the stability of the subgrade. In this investigation, relying on Haoji (Haolebaoji-Ji'an, China) heavy-haul railway engineering, cyclic triaxial tests were executed to scrutinize the dynamic attributes exhibited by the 3%–5% cement-stabilized expansive soil (CSES) across a series of diverse cyclic stress, confining pressures, and frequencies. Concurrently, in situ vibration trials were undertaken to dissect the dynamic characteristics inherent to the CSES subgrade. The outcomes of cyclic triaxial tests indicate that the augmentation in both the dynamic shear strength and modulus of CSES by a factor of 2–3, coupled with an escalation of the critical dynamic stress threshold by five tosix times, is attributed to the heightened internal structural density within the CSES compared to virgin expansive soil. In identical settings, it is noteworthy that the mean critical dynamic stress threshold observed for CSES surpasses that of Group A filling by a factor of 1.5–1.7. Furthermore, the maximum critical dynamic stress exhibited by CSES achieves a 1.2-fold superiority over its lime-stabilized expansive soil (LSES). The outcomes gleaned from the in situ vibration tests elucidate that, when subjected to the passage of a high-velocity train traveling at 120 km/hr, bearing the load of 25–30 tons per axle, the subgrade surface exhibits dynamic stress ranging from 98.57 to 116.07 kPa. Meanwhile, the dynamic stress undergoes a notable escalation due to rainfall infiltration, intensifying by a factor of 1.02–1.28 times its original magnitude. The influence depth of dynamic stress extends 1.4–1.6 times beyond the designed subgrade bed thickness of 2.5 m. Notably, the critical dynamic stress of the filler surpasses the dynamic stress at the same position, underscoreing the capacity of 3%–5% CSES filling for heavy-haul railways to ensure long-term dynamic stability. Background: In China, the world's largest developing country, low back pain (LBP) is a common public health issue affecting workability. This meta-analysis aimed to systematically assess the risk factors of LBP in the Chinese population. Methods: Four English language and four Chinese databases were searched, and cross-sectional studies on the risk factors for LBP in Chinese populations were identified and collected. The search timeframe covered the period from the establishment of the database to November 2023. Two researchers independently reviewed the literature, extracted the data, and evaluated the risk of bias. Begg's and Egger's tests were used to evaluate publication bias. Results: Fifteen cross-sectional studies involving 86,575 people were included. Seven risk factors for LBP were identified. Six risk factors were statistically significant: Cigarette smoking (odds ratio [OR] = 1.55; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.15, 2.08, P = 0.004, I2 = 72%), body mass index (BMI) ≥ 28 kg/m² (OR = 4.51; 95% CI: 3.36, 6.07, P < 0.00001, I2 = 8%), female sex (OR = 1.54; 95% CI: 1.25, 1.90, P < 0.0001, I2 = 63%), vibration exposure at work (OR = 1.65; 95% CI: 1.16, 2.34, P = 0.006, I2 = 84%), working overtime (OR = 2.57; 95% CI: 1.12, 5.91, P = 0.03, I2 = 85%), and lack of exercise (OR = 2.48; 95% CI: 1.62, 3.78, P < 0.0001, I2 = 0%). One risk factor that was not statistically significant was standing for long periods (OR = 1.02; 95% CI: 0.82, 1.26, P = 0.88, I2 = 73%). Conclusions: This study found that smoking, a BMI ≥ 28 kg/m², female sex, vibration exposure at work, working overtime, and lack of exercise may be risk factors for LBP in the Chinese population. Because the included studies were cross-sectional and the certainty of the evidence was very low, the results need to be interpreted cautiously. Multicentre, high-quality studies should be conducted in the future. To reduce the prevalence of LBP, the Chinese government and hospitals must develop early screening programs and implement effective preventive and interventional measures. Background: Recent advancements in China's perinatal and neonatal intensive care have significantly reduced neonatal mortality, yet preterm births before 32 weeks remain the primary cause of neonatal fatalities and contribute to long-term disabilities. The prognosis of very preterm infants (VPIs) is significantly affected by factors including the intrauterine environment, delivery method and neonatal intensive care. Cesarean section which often used for preterm births has implications that are not fully understood, particularly concerning the type of anesthesia used. This study examines the impact of general anesthesia (GA) during cesarean delivery on VPI outcomes, aiming to identify strategies for mitigating GAassociated risks. Methods: This cohort study analyzed 1,029 VPIs born via cesarean section under 32 weeks' gestation at our single-center from 1 January 2018, to 31 December 2022. Detailed medical records, encompassing perioperative information, maternal data and neonatal outcomes were meticulously examined. The primary aim of this investigation was to compare maternal characteristics and neonatal outcomes between VPIs delivered under GA and neuraxial anesthesia (NA). A significance level of p < 0.05 was established. Results: Of the 1,029 VPIs analyzed, 87.95% (n = 905) were delivered via NA and 12.05% (n = 124) via GA. Mothers with hypertensive pregnancy diseases and emergency operations were more inclined to choose GA. VPIs delivered under GA showed a lower Apgar score at one and 5 minutes (p < 0.01), increased need for tracheal intubation resuscitation (32.2% vs. 12.2%, p < 0.01) and a greater incidence of severe neurological injury (SNI) (14.5% vs. 5%, p < 0.01). Multivariable analysis revealed GA was significantly associated with lower Apgar scores at one (OR 6.321, 95% CI 3.729-10.714; p < 0.01) and 5 minutes (OR 4.535, 95% CI 2.975-6.913; p < 0.01), higher risk of tracheal intubation resuscitation (OR = 3.133, 95% CI = 1.939-5.061; p < 0.01) and SNI (OR = 3.019, 95% CI = 1.615-5.643; p < 0.01). Furthermore, for VPIs delivered under GA, a prolonged interval from skin incision to fetus delivery was associated with a lower 5-min Apgar score (p < 0.01). Conclusion: This study revealed the significant impact of GA on adverse outcomes among VPIs. In response to the engineering problem of severe damage to tunnels caused by coalburst, which leads to support failure and personnel casualties, a method of preventing coalburst through the support and energy-absorbing effects of supports has been proposed. An energy-absorbing hydraulic support is designed for circular or arched tunnels: it is called gantry energy-absorbing hydraulic support. The support mainly consists of three parts: an arched top beam, a micro-arc base, and an energy-absorbing hydraulic column. Through experiments, two types of the energy-absorbing components were compressed and tested. The results show that the average yield strength of a single anti-impact component is 1840 kN, and the energy absorption is 180 kJ when compressed by 100 mm. The average yield strength of the double section anti-impact component is 2460 kN, and the energy absorption is 410kJ when compressed by 100 mm. Both of these energy-absorbing components with a total energy absorption capacity of over 700 kJ are used in actual gantry energy-absorbing hydraulic support. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can help plants absorb more mineral nutrients after they colonize plant roots, and the mycelia harmonize the soil structure and physical and chemical properties by secreting compounds. AMF species co-evolve with their habitat's geographic conditions and hosts; this gradually causes differences in the AMF species. By using Melzer's reagent to analyze the morphology and using Illumina Miseq sequencing technology to perform the molecular identification of AMF communities among the four typical L. barbarum planting areas (Zhongning, Guyuan, Jinghe, and Dulan) investigated, the variety of L. barbarum roots and rhizosphere AMF communities was greater in the Zhongning area, and every region additionally had endemic species. The successfully amplified AMF was re-applied to the L. barbarum seedlings. We found that the total dry weight and accumulation of potassium increased significantly (p < 0.05), and the root volume and number of root branches were significantly higher in the plants that were inoculated with Paraglomus VTX00375 in the pot experiment, indicating that AMF improves root development and promotes plant growth. We have investigated AMF germplasm species in four regions, and we are committed to the development of native AMF resources. Cultural space (CS) holds significant importance for inheriting regional culture, serving people's lives, and boosting sustainable community development. In this study, based on the research case of the Hanzhong section of the Hanjiang River Basin (HSHRB), the demand and supply matching relationships between three groups of people, namely residents, employees, and tourists, and four types of CS—memorial or religious space (MRS), cultural heritage space (CHS), cultural facilities space (CFS), and cultural industries space (CIS)—is analyzed, with communities as the units. Findings: (1) The CS demand–supply matching relationship exhibited the spatial distribution characteristics of high value balance in urbanized areas, significant lag in suburban supply, and low value balance in rural areas. (2) For the CS demands of residents, employees, and tourists, the total supply was in a substantial shortage, in general balance, and in significant surplus, respectively. (3) There were significant differences in the fairness and adequacy of the demand–supply matching of the four types of CS, with MRS and CHS more equitable and better able to meet the needs of different regions and populations. (4) Six community types with significantly different demand and supply characteristics were classified based on the demand–supply relationship within the community and the supply environment of neighboring communities. They presented a spatial structure of circles outward in the order of high-value-balanced communities, deprived communities, insufficient-supply communities, low-value-balanced communities, and shared communities, with urbanized areas as the core. Deprived communities and shared communities have shown spatial dynamics of urban expansion and village decay, respectively, and they require urgent attention. The study employs a more systematic categorization of CS supply and a more diverse perspective of demand entities, offering new evidence for the equitable distribution of cultural resources among heterogeneous groups and regions. Ultimately, it presents strategies for optimizing demand and supply as well as policy recommendations for community governance, bringing fresh insights into promoting sustainable community development. The protective function of resilience against depression has been extensively discussed; however, little is known about the effect of depression on resilience. This research aims to examine the longitudinal relationship between these two factors. Resilience and depressive symptoms were assessed in June 2021 (T1), June 2022 (T2), and April 2023 (T3) in 403 middle school students from southern China. A random-intercept cross-lagged panel model was constructed to investigate the longitudinal association between resilience and depression. The differences in the proposed model among students across genders and academic periods were investigated using multi-group comparison structural equation modeling. Results indicated that, at the between-subject level, resilience is negatively correlated with depression; at the within-subject level, resilience at Tn negatively predicted depression at Tn+1, and depression at Tn also negatively predicted resilience at Tn+1. In addition, this interplay pattern did not differ across gender or academic period subgroups. These findings suggest that not only can resilience serve to protect people against depression, but chronic depressive symptoms may also impact people's resilience over time. This calls for interventions that integrate the detection and treatment of depression with the cultivation and enhancement of resilience to help teenagers maintain good mental health. Accurate retrieval of forest above ground biomass (AGB) based on full-polarization synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) data is still challenging for complex surface regions with fluctuating terrain. In this study, the three-step process of radiometric terrain correction (RTC), which includes polarization orientation angle correction (POAC), effective scattering area correction (ESAC), and angular variation effect correction (AVEC), is adopted as the technical framework. In the ESAC stage, a normalized correction factor is introduced based on local incidence angle and radar incidence angle to achieve accurate correction of PolSAR data information and improve the inversion accuracy of forest AGB. In order to verify the validity and robustness of this research method, the full-polarization SAR data of ALOS-2 and the ground measured AGB data collected in the Saihanba research area in 2020 were used for experiments. Our findings revealed that in the ESAC phase, the introduction of the normalized correction factor can effectively eliminate the ESA phenomenon and improve the correlation coefficients of the backscatter coefficient and AGB. Taking the data of 25 July 2020 as an example, ESAC increases the correlation coefficients between AGB and the backscattering coefficients of HH, HV, and VV polarization channels by 0.343, 0.296, and 0.382, respectively. Women with substance use disorders (SUDs) are more inclined to use drugs and relapse for regulating emotions compared to men. This study aimed to explore the effects of group music and imagery in alleviating anxiety, depression, emotion regulation difficulties, and craving for women with methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) in a compulsory rehabilitation context. A total of 90 women with MUD were randomly assigned to the music therapy treatment arm (n = 45) or control treatment arm (n = 45). Participants in the music therapy treatment arm received 12 biweekly sessions of group music and imagery (GrpMI) and those in the control treatment arm received 6 weeks of usual care. Anxiety, depression, emotion regulation difficulties, and craving were assessed at pre-test and post-test. After the intervention, participants in the GrpMI group reported significantly greater improvements than those in the control group for state anxiety (F = 6.27; p =.02; Partial η2 =.13), trait anxiety (F = 4.49; p =.04; Partial η2 =.09), depression (F = 5.48; p =.02; Partial η2 =.11), and craving (F = 4.53; p =.04; Partial η2 =.09). There was no significant difference between groups in emotion regulation difficulties (F =.95, p =.34, Partial η2 =.09). GrpMI significantly decreased depression, anxiety, and craving for women with MUD. Emotion regulation ability may need a longer period of treatment for significant improvement. Jiuzhaigou is situated on a mountain-canyon region and is famous for frequent tectonic activities. An abundance of loose co-seismic landslides and collapses were produced on gullies after the Jiuzhaigou Earthquake on August 8, 2017, which was served as material source for debris flow in later years. Debris flow appears frequently which are seriously endangering the safety of people's lives and properties. Even the earliest debris flow appeared in areas where no case ever reported before. The debris flow susceptibility evaluation (DFSE) is used for predicting the areas prone to debris flow, which is urgently required to avoid hazards and help to guide the strategy of preventive measures. Therefore, this work employs debris flow in Jiuzhaigou to reveal the characteristics of disaster-pregnant environment and to explore the application of machine learning in DFSE. Some new viewpoints are suggested: (i) Material density factor of debris flow is first adopted in this work, and it is proved to be a critical factor for triggering debris flows by sensitivity analysis method. (ii) Deep neural network and convolutional neural network (CNN) achieve relatively good area under the curve (AUC) values and are 0.021–0.024 higher than traditional machine learning methods. (iii) Watershed units combined with CNN-based model can achieve more accurate, reliable and practical susceptibility map. The study compared the perceptions of adults from four countries about storytelling. Americans (N = 153), Germans (N = 163), Chinese (N = 324), and Vietnamese (N = 356) completed a survey. Americans' scores on measures of storytelling experiences were the highest overall. Americans and Germans reported having significantly more childhood experiences of storytelling than the Chinese and Vietnamese. Vietnamese reported that storytelling experiences have impacted their resilience and propensity to use storytelling for teaching more than Chinese and Germans. Practical implications are that educators should investigate their students' stance on storytelling so they may leverage culturally responsive literacy practices.

The Qinghai–Tibet Plateau is the main permafrost area in China. Concrete structures constructed on permafrost are affected by the early negative-temperature environment. In particular, the negative-temperature environment seriously affects the strength growth process and the frost resistance of concrete (FRC). Therefore, this study considered the influence of the gas content, water–binder ratio (w/b), age, and other factors on the strength variation law and FRC under −3 °C curing conditions. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) was used to analyze the pore structure of concrete before and after freeze–thaw cycles (FTCs). The results showed that the compressive strength of the concrete (CSC) under −3 °C curing was only 57.8–86.4% of that cured under standard conditions. The CSC under −3 °C curing showed an obvious age-lag phenomenon. The FRC under −3 °C curing was much lower than that under standard curing. The porosity of the concrete under −3 °C curing was greater, with a higher percentage of harmful and multi-harmful pores than that under standard curing. The concrete properties deteriorated primarily because curing at −3 °C hindered the hydration reaction compared with standard methods. This hindrance resulted in diminished hydration development, weakening the concrete's structural integrity. Under both curing conditions, when the gas content was between 3.2% and 3.8%, the frost resistance was the best. This is because a gas content within this range effectively enhances the internal pore structure, therefore relieving the swelling pressure caused by FTCs. Based on the freeze–thaw damage (FTD) model proposed by previous authors, a new model for the CSC under −3 °C curing reaching that of the concrete under standard curing for 28 d was established in this study. This advanced model was capable of accurately assessing the FTD of concrete structures in permafrost regions. Finally, the life expectancy of concrete in Northwest China was predicted. The life of the concrete reached 46.9 years under standard curing, while the longest life of the concrete under −3 °C curing was only 12.9 years. Domestic donkeys (Equus asinus) have been maintained mainly for service purposes in the past. Nowadays, there is an increasing interest in donkey milk and meat production in several countries, including China. Donkey meat is highly consumed because of its nutritional value and unique flavor. However, genomic studies on donkey meat are limited. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to examine the molecular difference of longissimus dorsi muscles of donkey, cow, and goat. RNA sequencing and Proteome sequencing technology were used to analyze the transcriptome and proteome of the longissimus dorsi muscle of donkey, cow, and goat. A total of 1338 and 1780 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in donkey meat compared with that in cow and goat meat, respectively. Most of the DEGs were involved in biological processes, including small GTPase-mediated signal transduction, protein ubiquitination, protein glycosylation, and MAP kinase tyrosine/serine/threonine phosphatase activity. Additionally, 764 and 1024 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were identified in cow vs. donkey, and goat vs. donkey, respectively; these DEPs were mainly involved in metabolism. Background: In recent years, adolescents have shown a trend of decreasing muscle strength, especially in the upper limbs, and it affects the development of executive functions. However, few studies have been conducted on Tibetan adolescents in high‐altitude regions of China. To this end, this study investigated upper limb muscle strength and executive function in Tibetan adolescents in Tibetan regions of China and analyzed the association between them. Methods: A three‐stage stratified whole‐group sampling method was used to test and investigate grip strength, executive function, and basic information in 1093 Tibetan adolescents from Tibet, a high‐altitude region of China. A chi‐square test and one‐way ANOVA were used to compare the basic status and executive function of Tibetan adolescents with different muscle strength. Multiple linear regression analysis and logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the correlations that existed between muscle strength and each sub‐function of executive function. Results: The differences between the inconsistently and congruent reaction times of Tibetan adolescents with different grip strength levels (P75) at high altitude in China were statistically significant (F‐values of 32.596 and 31.580, respectively; P‐values <.001). The differences between the 1‐back and 2‐back response times for the refresh memory function were also statistically significant (F‐values of 9.055 and 6.610, respectively; P‐values <.01). Linear regression analysis showed that after adjusting for the relevant covariates, the 1‐back reaction time of Tibetan adolescents in the grip strength < P25 group increased by 91.72 ms (P <.01); the 2‐back reaction time of Tibetan adolescents in the grip strength < P25 group increased by 105.25 ms (P < 0.01), using grip strength > P75 as the reference group. Logistic regression analysis showed that, after adjusting for relevant covariates, Tibetan adolescents in the grip strength < P25 group had a higher risk of developing 2‐back dysfunction (OR = 1.89, 95% CI: 1.24,2.88), using grip strength >P75 as the reference group (P <.01). The risk of cognitive flexibility dysfunction (OR = 1.86, 95% CI: 1.16, 2.98) was also increased (P <.05). Conclusion: There was a significant correlation between grip strength and executive function of refresh memory function and cognitive flexibility in Tibetan adolescents in high altitude areas of China. Those with higher upper limb muscle strength had shorter reaction time, that is, better executive function. In the future, we should focus on improving the upper limb muscle strength of Tibetan adolescents at high altitude in China to better promote the development of executive function. In view of the limited precision of traditional point cloud registration methods in bridge engineering, as well as the lack of intuitive guidance for bridge construction control regarding relative coordinate relationships of point clouds, this study proposes a novel dual-purpose target for the total station and laser scanner, along with a corresponding algorithm. The scanning point cloud undergoes intensity filtering, clustering, planar denoising, contour extraction, centroid fitting, registration transformation, target recognition, registration, and coordinate transformation. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can accurately extract the centroid coordinates of the targets and effectively handle complex on-site conditions. The coordinate transformation achieves high precision, with an amplification error of only 2.1 mm at a distance of 500 m. The registration precision between planar and spherical targets is nearly identical, surpassing that of planar iterative and ICP algorithms. Application of the algorithm in the context of China's large double-span steel-tube concrete arch bridge scenario. it was found that the maximum deviation of the radius of the main chord tube was 10.8 mm, the maximum deviation of the distance from the center of the main chord tube was 8.3 mm, the average length of the merging opening was 775.0 mm, the maximum lateral deviation of the merging opening was 9.6 mm, and the maximum deviation of the height of merging opening was 25.2 mm. The results showed that no additional restraining measures were needed, and the smooth jointing could be realized only under a suitable temperature. Comparison with measurements obtained from the TS60 total station exhibits a close match, with a verification error within 3.9 mm, thereby meeting the precision requirements for construction control. Prostate cancer is one of the significant diseases that threaten the survival of men worldwide, with the progression of androgen deprivation therapy, become much rely on it, finally, developed into castration-resistant prostate cancer (ADT). In western countries, ranks second in incidence, and in China, with increasing lifespan, the incidence of prostate cancer is rising steadily. Although chemotherapy agents, such as taxane, have achieved some efficacy, treatment failure still occur. As sensitivity of hormone levels change, the disease can progress to castrate-resistant prostate cancer. Because of the poor efficacy of traditional surgery, endocrine therapy, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, the treatment options for castrate-resistant prostate cancer are limited. Advanced prostate cancer can progress on immunotherapy, and thus, bio -immunotherapy targeting the unique, prostate microenvironment is an important option. In this paper, we systematically revealed the role of three types of bio-immunotherapies (immune checkpoint inhibitors, tumors, vaccines, cytokines) in castrate-resistant prostate cancer, providing a reference for clinical treatment of prostate cancer. Using mean earlywood density data from Pinus koraiensis cores, we reconstructed the April–June mean minimum temperature from 1797 to 2015 for the Changbai Mountains. The reconstruction explained 52.6% of the actual mean minimum temperature variance during 1901–2015. After smoothing with an 11‐year moving average, we identified three major cold periods (1797–1875, 1881–1899, and 1903–1946) and three major warm periods (1876–1880, 1900–1902, and 1947–2015) in the reconstructed series. Spatial correlation showed that the reconstruction contained climatic signals for a large area including most of northeast China, especially the Bohai Rim region and the eastern side of the Mongolian Plateau. A comparison between the newly reconstructed temperature series for the surrounding areas reveals similar variations, particularly in the warming trend during the second half of the 20th century. The driving factors of the mean minimum temperature were influenced mainly by the interaction of solar activity and large‐scale atmospheric‐oceanic variability. The reconstructed series provides a basis for understanding past climate change in the Changbai Mountains and for predicting future climate change trends in Northeast China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

International students, who study a foreign language abroad, experience more adversities than their domestic peers. The social challenges they face include problems with immigration status, isolation, difficulty speaking a new language, and learning unfamiliar customs. There is limited research focused on the coping strategies of these individuals. A growing body of research suggests storytelling may provide an important role in promoting resilience, defined as an individual's ability to bounce back or recover from stress. The study investigated possible relationships between experiencing storytelling as a child and adult resilience. The sample consisted of 21 international college students studying Chinese or English. Students were examined with a survey, a narrative interview, and the brief resilience scale. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The quantitative results produced significant correlations between resilience scores and the survey scores for adults who reported using storytelling in their own teaching of a second language to peers and children. Qualitative results identified five protective factors for resilience: (1) social competence, (2) problem-solving skills, (3) autonomy, (4) sense of purpose, and (5) use of storytelling. Implications of the findings for research and intervention are discussed.

The West Junggar terrain (WJT), as a crucial part of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB), is distributed with numerous igneous rocks, which provide critical information for crustal growth. However, the closure of the Junggar Ocean (JO) and the beginning of the postcollisional tectonic stage of the WJT have been controversial. This study delimited the regional lithologic units based on remote sensing geological mapping and recognized a series of bimodal volcanic rocks (BVR) in Hala'alate Mountain of the WJT. LA-ICP‒MS zircon U‒Pb geochronology and geochemistry were used to discuss the petrogenesis of the BVR and determine the stage of regional tectonic evolution. Geochronological results yield crystallization ages of 302 ± 4 Ma, 298 ± 2 Ma, 304 ± 1 Ma, and 303 Ma± 2 Ma for the basaltic andesite, basalt, and two rhyolitic samples, respectively. Basalts and basaltic andesites are calc-alkaline, and display enrichment in light rare earth elements (LREEs) and large ion lithophile elements (LILEs) and depletion in high field strength elements (HFSEs). Notably, basaltic andesites in this area were once misjudged as sanukitoids owing to their low contents of Mg#, Ni, Cr, and other characteristics that are inconsistent with the typical definition of sanukitoids. The rhyolites are A2-type granitoids with high SiO2 contents and are depleted in Nb, Ta, P, Ti, and Sr, showing enriched LREE patterns with negative Eu anomalies. These features indicate that the magma of the mafic end-member of the BVR is derived from the partial melting of the depleted lithospheric mantle, whereas the felsic end-member magma can be associated with the remelting of the lower crust due to the upwelling and underplating of mafic magma. In combination with previous studies of simultaneous basic dikes and felsic rocks, a postcollisional tectonic stage was proposed for the WTJ during the late Carboniferous, suggesting that the JO was closed. Background: Lodging is a major factor contributing to yield loss and constraining the mechanical harvesting of wheat crops. Genetic improvement through breeding effectively reduced the lodging and improved the grain yield, however, the physiological mechanisms involved in providing resistance to lodging are different in the breeding stage and are not clearly understood. The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in the lodging resistance (LR) of the wheat varieties released during the different decades and to explore the effect of the application of nitrogen (N) fertilizer on the plasticity of LR. Results: A field study was conducted during the cultivation seasons of 2019–2020 and 2020–2021, in soil supplemented with three N levels: N0 (0 kg ha–1), N180 (200 kg ha–1), and N360 (360 kg ha–1) using eight varieties of wheat released for commercial cultivation from 1950 to date. The results obtained showed that genetic improvement had significantly enhanced the LR and grain yield in wheat. In the first breeding stage (from 1950 to 1980s) the lodging resistant index increased by 15.0%, which was primarily attributed to a reduced plant height and increased contents of cellulose, Si, and Zn. In the second breeding stage (the 1990s–2020s) it increased by 172.8%, which was mainly attributed to an increase in the stem diameter, wall thickness, and the contents of K, Ca, Fe, Mn, and Cu. The application of N fertilizer improved the grain yield but reduced the LR in wheat. This was mainly due to an increase in plant height resulting in an elevation of the plant center of gravity, a decrease in the contents of cellulose, and a reduction in the area of large-sized vascular bundles in the stems, even if N supplementation increased the concentrations of K, Ca, and Si. Conclusion: Although breeding strategies improved the stem strength, the trade-off between the grain yield and LR was more significantly influenced by the addition of N. As international academic exchanges and cooperation deepen, China has actively engaged in international biomedical research collaboration and achieved significant success. However, these accomplishments have been accompanied by ethical controversies and issues, with ethics dumping being a recurrently discussed focus among scholars. This paper reviews ethics dumping incidents in China’s biomedical research field and analyzes the underlying causes to answer why China is often susceptible to ethics dumping. We argue that the primary reasons include weak ethical awareness among some researchers, an oversimplified research evaluation system, gaps in relevant ethics governance and oversight mechanisms, and limited capabilities of certain ethics committees. To address these issues, we propose five ethics governance recommendations: establishing refined ethics committees at various levels and types; advancing theoretical and practical research on science and technology ethics governance; strengthening legislation and regulation related to emerging science and technology; emphasizing self-regulation and capacity building of research institutions; and providing special protection and healthcare for victims of ethics dumping. Ecosystem services (ESs) are important for supporting human development. However, a changing climate and anthropogenic impacts are resulting in the degradation of dryland ecosystems to varying degrees. While there has been the global implementation of Ecological Restoration Programs (ERPs) to restore degraded ecosystems, there remains limited comprehensive assessment of their impacts on ESs of drylands. In this study, the sandy areas of northern China were used as the study area. The RUSLE, RWEQ, CASA, and InVEST models were used to simulate four major ESs: soil conservation (SC), sand fixation (SF), carbon sequestration (CS), and water yield (WY). The study aimed to evaluate the influences of various ERPs on major ESs. The dominant factors affecting the overall benefits provided by ESs were also identified. Since ERPs were implemented, forest areas have increased by 2.8 × 104 km2, whereas the areas of cropland, shrubland, and grassland have decreased. There were generally increasing trends in SF, SC, and CS, whereas there was a decreasing trend in WY. We then used a scenario-based simulation approach to eliminate the influence of climate variability on ESs. The results showed increasing trends in SF, SC, and CS, whereas there were minimal changes in WY. The results suggested that although ERPs can significantly increase regional ESs, unregulated expansion in vegetation can result in a water crisis and affect regional water security. To identify the influences of anthropogenic activities on the composition, spatial distribution, sources, and transformation mechanism of sedimentary fulvic acid (FA) fractions from different reaches of an urban river were tracked via excitation-emission matrix (EEM) fluorescence spectroscopy with parallel factor (PARAFAC) analysis and two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2D-COS). Sediment samples were collected from Baitapu River (BR) along gradients with human activities (e.g., rural, town, and urban sections) in Shenyang, northeast China, from which FA fractions were extracted and then determined via EEM fluorescence spectroscopy. According to optical indices, the autochthonous sources of sedimentary FA fractions in BR were more significant than the terrestrial sources. Among the sections, the contribution from autochthonous sources decreased in the following order: Rural > Urban > Town. Six components of sedimentary FA fractions were identified via EEM–PARAFAC: C1 comprised tryptophan-like (TRL) compounds; C2 was associated with microbial humic-like (MHL) compounds; C3, C4, and C5 were associated with FA-like (FAL) compounds; and C6 comprised humic acid-like (HAL) compounds. The proportion of sedimentary FA fractions decreased in the following order: MHL + FAL + HAL (humus, 77.37–88.90%) > TRL (protein, 11.10–22.63%) for the three sections, showing that humus dominated. The town section exhibited the highest sedimentary FA fractions (5328.87 ± 1315.82 Raman unit [R.U.]), followed by the urban (4146.49 ± 535.75 R.U.) and rural (2510.56 ± 611.00 R.U.) sections. Three pollution sources were determined via principal component analysis (i.e., the dominant industrial source, domestic wastewater, and agricultural effluent). Additionally, the results from 2D-COS revealed that sedimentary FA fractions tended to stabilize as the protein-like component was transformed into the HAL component. Furthermore, we used the structural equation model to validate the critical environmental variables affecting the FA fraction transformation. To solve various extraction-related problems existing in the deep Jurassic mines in the Inner Mongolia-Shaanxi (IM-S) mining area, this paper puts forward a method to control roof water hazards based on the sedimentary facies pattern of the aquifers. The problems we addressed are: high volumes of goaf water, mixing of coal-based water in the stope, the proximity of the upper coal seam to water-enriched aquifers, and the inability for safe excavation and stoping. We first investigated the spatial distribution patterns of the aquifers and their related storage properties. A zone model of water yield compatible with the hydrogeological characteristics of a deep Jurassic mine was evaluated for the aquifers in the roof of the 3–1 coal mine, and a "low-position and lateral interception" control method was proposed based on the water yield zonation. The results demonstrated that the depositional environment for the sandstone aquifer in the first member of the Zhiluo Formation had a channel bar paleoenvironment that was characterized by a varying water table. This proved to be the key layer for preventing and controlling the water hazards. The method described in this paper effectively mitigated the water hazards associated with that aquifer in the study area and thus provide a theoretical and practical basis for controlling mine water hazards in the IM-S mining area. Introduction: Natural disturbances modify forest structure by affecting regeneration dynamics and can change main ecosystem functions. An ice storm unusually took place in southern China in early 2008, which caused huge damage to forests. Resprouting of woody plants in a subtropical forest has received little attention. The role of survival time and mortality has been assessed for newsprouts after an ice storm. Methods: In this study, damage types, in addition to the annual number and mortality rates of sprouts for all tagged and sampled resprouted Chinese gugertree (Schima superba Gardner & Champ.) individuals more than or equal to 4 cm in basal diameter (BD), were monitored. A total of six plots (20m × 20 m) wererecorded in a subtropical secondary forest dominated by S. superba in Jianglang Mountain, China. This investigation had been conducted for six consecutive years. Results: The results showed that the survival rates of the sprouts were dependent on the year they sprouted. The earlier the year they boomed, the lower the mortality. The sprouts produced in 2008 were of the highest vitality and survival rates. Sprouts of the decapitated trees exhibited a better survival rate than those of uprooted or leaning trees. Sprouting position also plays a role in regeneration. Sprouts at the basal trunks of uprooted trees and the sprouts at the upper trunksof the decapitated trees exhibited the lowest mortality. The relationship between the accumulative mortality rate and the average diameter of new sprouts isaffected by damage types. Discussion: We reported the mortality dynamics of sproutsin a subtropical forest after a rare natural disaster. Background: Management of acute postoperative pain is one of the major challenges in pediatric patients. Oral oxycodone has shown good pain relief in postoperative pain relief in children, but no studies have investigated intravenous oxycodone in this context. Objective: whether oxycodone PCIA can provide adequate and safe postoperative pain relief, in comparison to tramadol as reference opioid drug. Design: a randomized, double-blind, parallel, multi-center clinical trial. Setting: five university medical centers and three teaching hospitals in China. Participants: patients aged 3-month-old to 6-year-old undergoing elective surgery under general anesthesia. Intervention: patients were randomly allocated to either tramadol (n = 109) or oxycodone (n = 89) as main postoperative opioid analgesic. Tramadol or oxycodone were administered with a loading dose at the end of surgery (1 or 0.1 mg.kg–1, respectively), then with a parent-controlled intravenous device with fixed bolus doses only (0.5 or 0.05 mg.kg–1, respectively), and a 10-min lockout time. Outcomes: the primary outcome was adequate postoperative pain relief, defined as a face, legs, activity, cry, and consolability (FLACC) score < 4/10 in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), with no need for an alternative rescue analgesia. FLACC was measured 10 min after extubation then every 10 min until discharge from PACU. Analgesia was currently conducted with the boluses of either tramadol or oxycodone if FLACC was ≥ 3, up to three bolus doses, after what rescue alternative analgesia was administered. Results: tramadol and oxycodone provided a similar level of adequate postoperative pain relief in PACU and in the wards. No significant differences were either noted for the raw FLACC scores, the bolus dose demand in PACU, the time between the first bolus dose and discharge from PACU, analgesic drug consumption, bolus times required in the wards, function activity score, or the parents' satisfaction. The main observed side effects in both groups were nausea and vomiting, with no difference between groups. However, patients in the oxycodone group showed less sedation levels and had a shorter stay in the PACU, compared with the tramadol group. Conclusions: an adequate postoperative analgesia can be achieved with intravenous oxycodone, this with less side effects than tramadol. It can therefore be a choice for postoperative pain relief in pediatric patients. Aim: This study aimed to examine the relationship between social support and quality of life in urostomy patients and identify the mediating role of resilience in that relationship. Design: A cross‐sectional design. Methods: Participants included 232 patients who were recruited from a tertiary hospital in Beijing during March 2020 and August 2020. They completed questionnaires about perceived social support, resilience and ostomy‐related quality of life. Structural equation modelling was performed to analyse the data. Results: The mean age of patients was 65.79 (SD = 8.67) years, and the mean length of time after surgery was 42.14 (SD = 15.76) months. Urostomy patients' quality of life, social support and resilience were all above moderate. Background: Adherence to evidence-based hospital stroke care is variable and may change over time. It is important to determine which process measures are associated with variation in outcome. In a large dataset, we analyzed the association between process and outcome and the fluctuations of indicators over time, and identified quality indicators (QIs) that should be prioritized for improving the quality of stroke care. Methods: We analyzed data from 123,259 patients diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) who were treated at 109 large tertiary hospitals in China between January 2011 and May 2017. In total, 12 stroke treatment indicators were selected to calculate the hospital process composite performance (HPCP). Hospitals were divided into subgroups according to the time trend of HPCP estimated by the Group-Based Model. We analyzed the influence of hospital subgroups on the patient outcomes using a multi-level model and explored the QIs that led to variation. Results: The HPCP trends for stroke indicators of 109 hospitals over 7 years were divided into two groups (Group 1, low-HPCP; Group 2, high-HPCP). After adjusting for patient age, medical insurance, comorbidities, patterns of admission, and NIHSS-scores, patients in the high-HPCP group presented higher rate of independence and longer length of stay compared to the low-HPCP group. The multi-level model showed that there was a statistically significant difference in the utilization rate between the two groups, with most marked differences seen in emergency assessment and function evaluation indicators. Conclusion: Variation in the quality of stroke care exists across hospitals, and better adherence to guideline-based care is associated with improved outcomes. We found that QIs related to emergency examination and functional assessment were the main factors differing between good and poor adherers to stroke indicators, suggesting that quality improvement in stroke care could prioritize these QIs. The success of shale oil exploration and production is highly dependent on the heterogeneous nature of the reservoir pore structure. Despite this, there remains limited research on the heterogeneity characteristics of pores at different scales in lacustrine shale oil reservoirs and the factors that impact them. This study aims to quantitatively characterize the multi-scale pore heterogeneity differences of the lacustrine shale found in the Funing Formation in Gaoyou Sag. Additionally, the study seeks to clarify the impact of the total organic carbon (TOC) and lithofacies type on pore structure heterogeneity. To achieve this, nitrogen adsorption, scanning electronic microscope (SEM), mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), and other experimental means were adopted in combination with the fractal dimension model of FHH and capillary. The results show that the predominant lithofacies of the Funing Formation shale samples are mixed shale (MS) and siliceous shale (SS), with a limited presence of calcareous shale (CS). The micro-pores of lacustrine shale are dominated by inorganic mineral pores and fewer organic pores. Intragranular pores and clay mineral pores are two types of inorganic mineral pores that are widely found. Small pores (pore diameter < 50 nm) make up 89% of the pore volume (PV) and 99% of the specific surface area (SSA). The fractal dimensions D1, D2, and D3 were calculated to characterize the roughness of the pore surface, the structural complexity of small pores, and the structural complexity of large pores (pore diameter > 50 nm), respectively. The increase in the total organic carbon (TOC) resulted in a decrease in the D1, D2, PV, and SSA, while connectivity showed a slight improvement. The fractal dimension of shale across all lithofacies followed the pattern: D3 > D2 > D1. The pore structure is more complex than the pore surface, and the large pores showed a greater heterogeneity than the small pores. Among the three lithofacies, CS had the largest PV, SSA, D1, and D2, indicating the development of a more complex pore structure network. This expands the space required for shale oil occurrence. However, the connectivity of the CS lithofacies is the lowest among the three, which hinders shale oil production. Although the PV of SS is slightly lower than that of CS, its average pore diameter (AVE PD) and connectivity are significantly advantageous, making SS an ideal shale reservoir. Sympatric distribution and potentially long larval development time make the assignment of tadpoles confusing in Asian-horned frogs of the subfamily Megophryinae. In this study, we used molecular data to identify four syntopic megophryinid tadpoles from Mangshan on the border between Hunan and Guangdong provinces in southern China: Brachytarsophrys popei, Boulenophrys shimentaina, Bo. cf. ombrophila, and Bo. nanlingensis. A detailed re-description of the Br. popei tadpoles is provided as well as the first descriptions of three Boulenophrys tadpoles based on external morphology and coloration. An effort is attempted to distinguish these tadpoles by coloration patterns: the dorsal pattern, ventral pattern, and pattern on tail are useful for field identification of these tadpoles. However, the variation of color pattern could sometimes make species delineation difficult. Researchers are encouraged to document coloration in life with photographs and the collection of tadpoles of different development stages and sizes advocated in order to better understand how color may change during larval development. Local retroperitoneal recurrence (RPR) after radical nephrectomy (RN) is rare in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC); however, it is associated with poor prognosis and lacks standard treatment. Our study aimed to assess oncological outcomes and prognostic factors of patients that underwent targeted therapy for RPR after RN, and to evaluate the role of presurgical targeted therapy in this context. This was a retrospective multicenter study of 85 patients with RPR treated with targeted therapy for RPR after RN (July 2008‐October 2020). Clinical and pathological characteristics were reported using descriptive statistics. Cancer‐specific survival (CSS) was examined using the Cox proportional hazards model. The median follow‐up time was 50 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 33.3‐66.7) after the RPR diagnosis. The median CSS was 96 months in the presurgical targeted therapy followed by surgical resection group and 42 months (95% CI: 28.8‐55.2) in the targeted therapy alone group (P =.0011). In multivariate analysis, International Metastatic RCC Database Consortium classification intermediate/poor risk, number of recurrence lesions and surgical resection were independent predictors of CSS. Presurgical targeted therapy may increase the feasibility of tumor resection for RPR after RN. Identifying the anomaly of glacier mass balance under climate change is vital for understanding glacier development and conservation, and the mechanism that induces spatial heterogeneity in glacier evolution. The combined effects of climate teleconnections and local atmospheric factors induce the elevation-dependent behavior of glacier mass balance. To examine elevation-dependency of glacier mass balance to climate variability, we divided Urumqi Glacier No. 1, China into seven vertical zones with equal elevation intervals of 100 m from 3700 to 4400 m above the sea level (a.s.l.). We identified anomalies of the glacier mass balance of each elevation zone using the Mann–Kendall test based on the observed data from 1970 to 2018. According to the change rate before and after an anomaly, the sensitive zone of glacier mass balance was determined to be in the middle-elevation (3800–4200 masl). A gain and loss transformation zone is found at elevation interval 4000–4200 masl, and is called the core of sensitive zone. Subsequently, the glacier mass balance response to climate variability was analyzed based on the interrelationship between the mass balance gain and loss and the warm and cold phases of different climate modes including the El Niño–Southern Oscillation, North Atlantic Oscillation and Arctic Oscillation. The La Niña and North Atlantic Oscillation-cold phases strongly affect mass balance. The former causes the mass balance loss mainly in interval 3700–4400 masl. The latter results in the gain in interval 3700–4100 masl and loss in interval 4100–4400 masl Thus, glacier mass balance distribution is vertically heterogeneous, exhibiting a hierarchical structure. Extant research has explicitly recognized the importance of the compatible environment in the context of globalization. Sister-city partnership has long been developed for the establishment of such a favorable environment to facilitate international investment. Using a panel data set that covers 66 Belt Road countries and 75 non-Belt Road countries from 2006 to 2017, we investigate the impact of sister-city relationship between China and her partner countries as well as its interactive effect with Chinas' recent global home institution, BRI on the Chinese outward FDI. We find consistent evidence that both sister-city partnership and BRI promote the Chinese outward FDI while these effects are rather complementary than supplementary to each other. Further, we find that the positive impact of BRI seems to be more pronounced in privately owned enterprises (POE) rather than state-owned enterprises (SOE), which suggests that BRI at this stage is more market-oriented and less political-oriented. Our findings suggest that the policymakers should hold more open attitudes towards the establishment of sister-city partnership and towards the Belt Road Initiative to promote more Chinese outward foreign investment so as to deepen the bilateral economic cooperation. The Qinling-Daba Mountains span subtropical and warm temperate zones and are one of the most remarkable biodiversity hotspots in China. Establishing a complete checklist of seed plants organized by nature reserves in the Qinling-Daba Mountains and adjacent areas is an important basis for managing and utilizing plant resources. First, we collected seed plant species data from published checklists representing 58 nature reserves in the Qinling-Daba Mountains and adjacent areas; second, we comprehensively and systematically sorted and integrated these data; third, we proofread and revised the data with the help of the R language and Flora of China dataset; and finally, we set up a seed plant database containing 96148 records, including the name, order, family, genus, life form, and endemism of each species for the entirety of the Qinling-Daba Mountains. The database contains 9491 species of seed plants belonging to 1729 genera, 211 families, and 59 orders, accounting for 39% of China's seed plants. Lack of archaeological and whole-genome diversity data has restricted current knowledge of the evolutionary history of donkeys. With the advancement of science and technology, the discovery of archaeological evidence, the development of molecular genetics, and the improvement of whole-genome sequencing technology, the in-depth understanding of the origin and domestication of donkeys has been enhanced, however. Given the lack of systematic research, the present study carefully screened and collected multiple academic papers and books, journals, and literature on donkeys over the past 15 years. The origin and domestication of donkeys are reviewed in this paper from the aspects of basic information, cultural origin, bioarcheology, mitochondrial and chromosomal microsatellite sequences, and whole-genome sequence comparison. It also highlights and reviews genome assembly technology, by assembling the genome of an individual organism and comparing it with related sample genomes, which can be used to produce more accurate results through big data statistics, analysis, and computational correlation models. Background: The donkey industry in the world and especially in China is developing rapidly, and donkey farming is transforming gradually from the family farming model to large-scale, intensive, and integrated industrial operations, which could ensure the stability of product quality and quantity. However, theoretical research on donkey breeding and its technical development lags far behind that of other livestock, thereby limiting its industrial development. Background: Polygoni Multiflori Radix (PMR) is a widely distributed herb that has been used for centuries in the treatment of a range of systemic diseases among practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine. Objectives: The present comparative metabolite analysis study was conducted in an effort to understand the relationship between the geographical origin of PMR samples and their medicinal properties. Materials and Methods: As a metabolomics analysis of 35 PMR samples collected from Guangdong and other provinces in China was conducted via ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-electrostatic field orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry. Results: Differential metabolite profiles in these PMR samples were evaluated through multivariate statistical analyses. In total, this approach led to the identification of 778 differential metabolites [value of group contribution (VIP) >1, P < 0.01, and fold-change (FC) >2 or <0.5)] that were primarily associated with glycosaminoglycan degradation, lipoic acid metabolism, flavonoid biosynthesis, tyrosine metabolism, flavone and flavonol biosynthesis, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, and phenylalanine metabolism. Of these metabolites, catechins accounted for seven significantly altered metabolites (VIP ≥2, P < 0.01, and FC >2 or <0.5) when comparing PMR samples from Guangdong with those from other regions. This suggests that PMR samples contain metabolite profiles characteristic of their provenance. Conclusion: As such, metabolomic profiling may be effective means of differentiating between PMR samples from different geographic regions within China, thus providing a sound theoretical basis for the reliable differentiation among and selection of pharmacologically optimal PMR samples. Introduction: Early onset sepsis (EOS) remains a potentially fatal newborn condition, especially in very preterm infants. Data on the pathogen distribution and antibiotic susceptibility patterns of EOS among very preterm infants are scarce but essential for the choice of empirical antibiotic administration. We sought to assess the epidemiologic characteristics and antibiotic susceptibility patterns of pathogens causing EOS among a cohort of very preterm infants in China. Methods: This prospective, observational study included a cohort of infants born at a gestational age (GA) less than 32 weeks of 32 newborn intensive care units (NICUs) in China between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2020. EOS was defined by isolation of pathogenic species from blood culture within 72 h of birth. Results: A total of 108 EOS cases (18.4 per 1000 admissions) were identified among 5865 very preterm infants. Incidence of EOS increased with the decrease of GA and birthweight. Escherichia coli (n = 44, 40.7%) was the most common pathogen, followed by Klebsiella spp. (n = 10, 9.3%). The distribution and proportion of pathogenic bacteria varied significantly by GA. E. coli and Klebsiella spp. showed high resistance to ampicillin and third-generation cephalosporins, while they showed good susceptibility to carbapenem antibiotics and piperacillin–tazobactam. Conclusion: Our data demonstrated that pathogens causing neonatal EOS showed high rates of resistance to ampicillin and third-generation cephalosporins.
