Background: Ticks are medically important vectors capable of transmitting a variety of pathogens to and between host species. Although the spectrum of tick-borne RNA viruses has been frequently investigated, the diversity of tick-borne DNA viruses remains largely unknown. Methods: A total of 1571 ticks were collected from forests and infested animals, and the diversity of the viruses they harbored was profiled using a DNA-specific virome method. The viromic data were phylogenetically analyzed and validated by PCR assays. Results: Although diverse and abundant prokaryotic viruses were identified in the collected ticks, only eukaryotic DNA viruses with single-stranded circular genomes covering the anelloviruses and circular replication-associated (Rep) protein-encoding single-stranded (CRESS) DNA viruses were recovered from ticks. Anelloviruses were detected only in two tick pools, but CRESS DNA viruses were prevalent across these ticks except in one pool of Dermacentor spp. ticks. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that these tick-borne CRESS DNA viruses were related to viruses recovered from animal feces, tissues and even environmental samples, suggesting that their presence may be largely explained by environmental factors rather than by tick species and host blood meals. Conclusions: Based on the results, tick-borne eukaryotic DNA viruses appear to be much less common than eukaryotic RNA viruses. Eastern roe deer (Capreolus pygargus) is a small ruminant and is widespread across China. This creature plays an important role in our ecological system. Although a few studies have been conducted to investigate pathogens harbored by this species, our knowledge of the virus diversity is still very sparse. In this study, we conducted the whole virome profiling of a rescue-failed roe deer, which revealed a kobuvirus (KoV), a bocaparvovirus (BoV), and multiple circular single-stranded viruses. These viruses were mainly recovered from the rectum, but PCR detection showed systematic infection of the KoV. Particularly, the KoV and BoV exhibited closely genetic relationships with bovine and canine viruses, respectively, highly suggesting the spillover of viruses from domestic animals to wildlife. Although these viruses were unlikely to have been responsible for the death of the animal, they provide additional data to understand the virus spectrum harbored by roe deer. Hemodialysis patients are vulnerable to infectious diseases and frequent receipt of antimicrobial agents. The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence and characteristics of infections and antimicrobials use among hemodialysis outpatients. We utilized the dialysis event surveillance protocol developed by the National Healthcare Safety Network to conduct a prospective multicenter study in Anhui, China. A total of 41 dialysis centers involving 7393 outpatients were included. Fistula was the most common type of vascular access (85.3%), followed by tunneled central line (12.7%), and non-tunneled central line (1.2%). There were 118 dialysis events with an overall pooled events rate of 1.60 per 100 patient-months. Intravenous antimicrobial start, positive blood culture, and pus, redness, or increased swelling at the vascular access site were detected at rates of 0.91, 0.23, and 0.46 per 100 patient-months, respectively. The prevalence of dialysis events was commonly higher in patients with a central line, and lower in patients with a fistula. Hemodialysis outpatients also had the noteworthy risks of nonaccess infections. Older age, female gender, and having a central line were associated with the increased risk of dialysis events. Findings recommend that regular monitoring and improvement strategies are warranted in management of infections among hemodialysis outpatients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Adult T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is a rare hematological malignancy and significantly linked to poor outcomes. Early T-cell precursor (ETP) leukemia is a unique subtype of T-ALL. The aim of this study is to compare the differences between ETP and non-ETP ALLs in China. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the records of 122 adult T-ALL patients diagnosed and treated at our center between January 2014 and June 2019. All the patients enrolled were categorized into ETP and non-ETP ALL by immunophenotype, and further statistical analyses about clinical data and prognostic factors were performed. Results: Among the 122 cases, the male-to-female ratio was 2.8:1, and the median age is 29 (range, 16–82) years. Except for 10 patients with insufficient immunophenotyping results, 47.3% (53/112) are ETP and 52.7% (59/112) are non-ETP. Compared with non-ETP patients, ETP-ALL patients had lower white blood cell counts and lactate dehydrogenase levels, while they were older and had higher platelet counts and fibrinogen levels (all p < 0.05). Complete remission (CR) was achieved in 68.0% (83/122) of patients, 64.2 and 76.3% in ETP and non-ETP, respectively (p = 0.160). In total, 44.6% (37/83) of patients relapsed. Allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) was successfully performed in 36.1% (44/122) of patients, of which 79.5% (35/44) were in CR1. With a median follow-up of 9.1 (range, 0.5–70.3) months, the estimated 2-year overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS) rates for the cohort were 38.0 ± 5.1 and 39.1 ± 6.3%, respectively. In the ETP group, the 2-year OS rate was 40.7 ± 8.2% and the RFS rate was 47.2 ± 10.7%, while in the non-ETP group, the 2-year OS rate was 37.9 ± 7.0% and the RFS rate was 39.2 ± 8.3% (both p > 0.05). In the landmark analysis of CR1 patients who had a survival of more than 6 months, the allo-SCT group had significantly better survival outcomes than the chemotherapy group, and the 2-year OS rates and RFS rates were 80.1 ± 7.3 vs. 28.4 ± 8.4% and 68.9 ± 8.8 vs. 12.8 ± 7.2%, respectively (both p < 0.0001). A multivariate analysis suggests that allo-SCT acts as an independent prognostic factor for both OS and RFS. Conclusions: Our results revealed that ETP accounted for a high proportion of T-ALL in Chinese. There are no CR rates and prognosis differences between ETP and non-ETP. This prospective study examined the longitudinal effects of psychological resilience on depression in a Chinese sample of left-behind children. A total of 386 left-behind children completed both a baseline and a 1-year follow-up survey. The prevalence of depression at the baseline and 1-year follow-up was 12.7 and 8.5 per cent, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that older age and baseline depressive symptoms were positively associated with follow-up depression, while psychological resilience and quality of life were negatively related to follow-up depression. Our findings provided preliminary evidence that higher psychological resilience was a significantly protective factor of developing depression among left-behind children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to explore the change and associated risk and protective factors of social anxiety symptoms among Chinese children. A 2-year longitudinal study was performed in a general primary and secondary school population in Anhui Province, China including 816 children in grades 3, 4, and 7. Children's social anxiety symptoms were assessed using the Social Anxiety Scales for Children (SASC) at three assessments. The overall prevalence of children's elevated social anxiety symptoms ranged from 15.2% to 16.4% across three assessments. Children's overall mean SASC scores were 5.6 (SD =3.7), 5.3 (SD =3.8), and 5.3 (SD =4.1) at three assessments, respectively, but the difference was not statistically significant. However, children's social anxiety symptom levels and change among different subgroups was not stable across 2-year follow-up. Multivariable logistic regression analysis indicated that age, severe family dysfunction, quality of life, positive coping, negative coping, depressive symptoms and self-esteem were predictive factors for childhood elevated social anxiety symptoms. The findings suggested that the overall social anxiety symptoms showed a relatively stable pattern over time. Childhood has been targeted as an especially important period for self-esteem formation. The aim of this study is to examine the change and associated factors of self-esteem among children in rural China. A two-year longitudinal study was conducted with a general elementary and secondary school population in Anhui Province, China including 816 children aged between 7 and 16 years. Generalized estimating equation (GEE) was used to examine relationships between low self-esteem and socio-demographic, family environment, and psychosocial factors. On average, self-esteem level among children was increased across three assessments. Multivariable analysis (GEE) showed that low self-esteem in children was clearly associated with male gender (OR = 1.45, 95%CI = 1.12–1.89), moderate and severe family dysfunction (OR = 1.88, 95%CI = 1.40–2.51; OR = 1.88, 95%CI = 1.25–2.83, respectively), quality of life (OR = .97, 95%CI = .96–.98), depression (OR = 1.89, 95%CI = 1.32–2.70), anxiety (OR = 2.05, 95%CI = 1.51–2.77), positive coping styles (OR = .91, 95%CI = .89–.94), and negative coping styles (OR = 1.05, 95%CI = 1.03–1.07). Self-esteem is a dynamic rather than a static construct during childhood. Low self-esteem among children was associated with a number of socio-demographic, family environment, and psychosocial factors. There have been numerous studies concerning the associations of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene insertion/deletion (I/D), angiotensin II receptor 1 (AT1R) gene A1166C, and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene 4b/a polymorphisms with risk of pregnancy hypertensive disorders (PHDs). However, the results are inconsistent. A total of 83 eligible studies (10,354/18,446 cases/controls) were included in this meta-analysis. Pooled odds ratios with corresponding 95% confidence intervals were used to calculate these associations. The effects of ethnicity and types of PHDs were also considered. Results showed significant associations between the ACE gene polymorphism and PHDs in all of the populations except that in Africa. The associations also existed in AT1R, eNOS gene polymorphism and PHDs in part of the gene models in the overall population. These results indicated the ACE gene polymorphism was associated with an increased risk of PHDs, whereas the eNOS and AT1R gene polymorphism only have increased susceptibility to PHDs in part of the gene models. Background: At the end of 2021, an epidemic of reproductive abnormalities in cows occurred in Jilin Province, China, posing an urgent need for a rapid diagnosis., Results: To identify the cause of the disease, a total of 172 samples were collected from 21 dead calves and 45 aborting or pregnant cows in 10 farms across the province. Routine PCR or RT-PCR detection did not find any common abortion-related agents. We then employed the viromics-based precision diagnosis method to analyze these samples, and the read-based annotation showed signals of an Akabane disease virus (AKAV) in some libraries. To further identify the virus, nested RT-PCR detection revealed that 52.3% (11/21) of dead calves and 26.6% (12/45) of cows were positive for the virus. Phylogenetic analysis of the partial fragments showed that the S segment of the virus was 100% identical to the Chinese strain TJ2016, but its M and L segments shared 94.3% and 96.5% identities with an Israeli strain., Conclusions: The viromic and molecular results suggested that these animals were infected with a reassortant AKAV. Bats are associated with the circulation of most mammalian filoviruses (FiVs), with pathogenic ones frequently causing deadly hemorrhagic fevers in Africa. Divergent FiVs have been uncovered in Chinese bats, raising concerns about their threat to public health. Here, we describe a long-term surveillance to track bat FiVs at orchards, eventually resulting in the identification and isolation of a FiV, Dehong virus (DEHV), from Rousettus leschenaultii bats. DEHV has a typical filovirus-like morphology with a wide spectrum of cell tropism. Its entry into cells depends on the engagement of Niemann-Pick C1, and its replication is inhibited by remdesivir. DEHV has the largest genome size of filoviruses, with phylogenetic analysis placing it between the genera Dianlovirus and Orthomarburgvirus , suggesting its classification as the prototype of a new genus within the family Filoviridae . The continuous detection of viral RNA in the serological survey, together with the wide host distribution, has revealed that the region covering southern Yunnan, China, and bordering areas is a natural circulation sphere for bat FiVs. Background: A multicenter retrospective study was conducted to explore the factors affecting short-term prognosis and long-term outcomes of intracranial aneurysms (IA) rupture. Further, the prognosis prediction model was constructed based on survival analysis, contributing to the development of prevention strategies for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage., Methods: Data of 1280 patients with IA rupture were gathered between 2014 and 2022 in Fujian, China. Logistic regression was implemented to study the short-term prognostic factors of IA rupture. Survival analysis of 911 patients among them was performed to explore the long-term outcome status by Cox risk assessment. Nomogram prognosis models were constructed using R software., Results: The findings displayed that blood type O (OR = 1.79; P = 0.019), high systolic pressure (OR = 1.01; P < 0.001), Glasgow Coma score (GCS) 9-12 (OR = 2.73; P = 0.022), GCS < 9 (OR = 3.222; P = 0.006), diabetes (OR = 2.044; P = 0.040), and high white blood cell count (OR = 1.059, P = 0.040) were core influencing factors for poor short-term prognosis. Survival analysis revealed that age > 60 years (HR = 2.87; P = 0.001), hypertension (HR = 1.95; P = 0.001), conservative (HR = 6.89; P < 0.001) and endovascular treatment (HR = 2.20; P = 0.001), multiple ruptured IAs (HR = 2.37; P = 0.01), Fisher 3 (HR = 1.68; P = 0.09), Fisher 4 (HR = 2.75; P = 0.001), and Hunt-Hess 3 (HR = 0.55; P = 0.05) were the major risk factors for terrible long-term outcomes., Conclusions: People over 60 years with characteristics of type O blood, high systolic pressure, diabetes, high white blood cell count, and onset GCS < 12 will have more complications and a worse short-term prognosis. Mammalian orth (MRVs) are increasingly reported to cause various diseases in humans and other animals, with many possibly originating from bats, highlighting the urgent need to investigate the diversity of bat-borne MRVs (BtMRVs). Here, we report the detection and characterization of a reassortant MRV that was isolated from a bat colony in Xinjiang, China. The BtMRV showed a wide host and organ tropism and can efficiently propagate the cell lines of different animals. It caused mild damage in the lungs of the experimentally inoculated suckling mice and was able to replicate in multiple organs for up to three weeks post-inoculation. Complete genome analyses showed that the virus was closely related to MRVs in a wide range of animals. An intricate reassortment network was revealed between the BtMRV and MRVs of human, deer, cattle, civet and other bat species. Specifically, we found a bat-specific clade of segment M1 that provides a gene source for the reassortment of human MRVs. These data provide important insights to understand the diversity of MRVs and their natural circulation between bats, humans, and other animals. Objective: By exploring the exposure-response relationships between meteorological factors and rupture of intracranial aneurysm (IA) to reveal the influence of meteorological variation on IA rupture under the specific climate in Fujian, China., Method: 7515 cases of IA rupture from several municipal medical institutions in Fujian Province as well as local meteorological data during the same period were collected from 2013 to 2017. Poisson regression and Spearman correlation analysis were applied to explore the distribution characteristics of IA rupture and how it is associated with meteorological parameters. Poisson generalized additive model was established to further analyze the exposure-response relationships between meteorological factors and IA rupture, and its hysteresis effects., Result: The IA rupture exhibited a negative correlation with temperature (r s = -0.323, 95% CI: -0.539 ~ -0.068) and a positive correlation with atmospheric pressure (r s = 0.397, 95% CI: 0.152-0.597) or pressure difference (r s = 0.296, 95% CI: 0.038-0.517), 21.05 ℃ and 1000.14 hPa were the risk thresholds for the onset ascribed to variation in temperature and atmospheric pressure, respectively. Temperature and atmospheric pressure also exerted hysteresis effects on IA rupture. Cold will increase the rupture risk in the subsequent 1-3 days, and high pressure will raise the morbidity in the next 1-2 days. Besides, drastic variations in temperature and atmospheric pressure were also associated with the higher risk of IA rupture in the next 2 days and 1 day, respectively., Conclusion: Temperature and atmospheric pressure have a negative and positive correlation with IA rupture in Fujian, China, respectively. The identification of genetic risk subgroups of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) may provide evidence for risk stratification and individualized treatment. We investigated the characteristics and prognostic value of tumor suppressor gene CDKN2A deletions in 101 patients with T-ALL. The CDKN2A deletion was present in 23% (23/101) of T-ALL by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). The most common type of CDKN2A deletion was homozygous deletion (70%, 16/23). A lower frequency of CDKN2A deletion was found in patients with early T-cell precursor (ETP) ALL than in patients with non-ETP-ALL (10.4% vs 34.0%; P = .008). Deletion of CDKN2A was significantly associated with younger age (P = .001), higher white blood cell (WBC) count (P < .001) and higher lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level (P = .002). Patients with CDKN2A deletion had lower 2-year overall survival (OS) and event-free survival (EFS) rates than patients without CDKN2A deletion (2-year OS: 18.6% ± 8.9% vs 47.4% ± 6.2%, P = .032; EFS: 16.4 ± 8.3 vs 38.6 ± 5.9%, P = .022). In multivariable analysis, CDKN2A deletion was an independent adverse prognostic factor for OS (P = .016). Syringa pinnatifolia is an endemic species of Syringa in Oleaceae family in China, mainly distributed in Helan Mountain, which is located between Inner Mongolia and Ningxia. Its peeled roots, stems and thick twigs have been used as Mongolian folk medicine, called &quot;Shan-chen-xiang&quot; in Chinese, for the treatment of coronary heart diseases, angina pectoris and other cardiopulmonary diseases. Modern researches showed that S. pinnatifolia mainly contains lignans, sesquiterpenoids, and volatile oils, and displays anti-myocardial ischemia, sedation, analgesia, antibacterial and other effects. In the past five years, many groups have made new progress on the study of chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of S. pinnatifolia. On the basis of the previous review by our group, this paper summarizes the advances which is beneficial to the development, research and clinical application of S. pinnatifolia, particularly Shan-chen-xiang.

As an important substitute for agarwood, mountain-agarwood, belonging to the family Oleaceae, comes from the root, stem and thick branch of Syringa pinnatifolia, which has a wide range of application in Inner Mongolia, China. It has good clinical efficacy in the use of cardiovascular diseases. However, the formation speed of mountain-agarwood is extremely slow, and its cultivated seedlings have low resin content. Therefore, how to speed up the formation of mountain-agarwood and increase the resin content is a hot research topic in this field. In this work, 16 S rDNA amplicon sequencing method was used to systematically analyze the bacterial communities of different samples of mountain-agarwood. Our data revealed that the samples of mountain-agarwood had more obvious species diversity than the ones of non-mountain-agarwood, especially the wild mountain-agarwood samples. By analysis of bacterial community composition and species abundance, Sphingomonas, Modestobacter and unidentified Cyanobacteria genus were three dominant bacterial genera in all samples. In addition, there are two identified genera of dominant bacteria, namely Actinoplanes and Microbacterium in both wild and cultivated mountain-agarwood, by bacterial community composition and species richness analysis. Meanwhile, Roseomonas was the dominant bacterial genus in both wild and cultivated non-mountain-agarwood samples. Our work could provides basic data for exploring the mechanism of the mountain-agarwood formation, and help to exploit resource of endophytic bacteria reasonably.

Mountain-agarwood plays an important role in ethnic medicine in China for its pharmaceutical value. Modern pharmacological researches demonstrated that mountain-agarwood was effective for its anti-myocardial ischemia, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and analgesic effects. Mountain-agarwood derives from the peeled roots, stems or twigs of Syringa pinnatifolia which belongs to Syringa genus. It often depends on the purple substance and fragrance to estimate the formation of mountain-agarwood. However, the mechanism of mountain-agarwood formation has not been reported. To observe the microcosmic change in the process during the formation of mountain-agarwood, this study described the microscopic and histochemical characteristics of mountain-agarwood formation through histochemical staining. Our results showed that a significant difference of the distribution of tyloses existed during mountain-agarwood formation. It was observed that inchoate mountain-agarwood had more starch granules and viable cells than mountain-agarwood formed with high level or low level. The amount of polysaccharide and degree of lignification were increased during the mountain-agarwood formation. The results indicated that the mountain-agarwood, which meets the quality requirements for pharmaceutical use, contained the following characteristics: a large amount of purple tyloses in heartwood; yellow-brown tyloses distributing in heartwood and sapwood which were less in the latter; lignification with high level; a few viable cells; lots of polysaccharide and few starch granules in xylem rays cell. This study is aimed to reveal the change of histochemical characteristics during mountain-agarwood formation, and lay the foundation for exploring the mechanism of mountain-agarwood formation.

Objective: The climatic characteristics of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) have been reported, but consensus has not yet been reached. It is of great significance to elucidate the relationships between meteorological variation and aSAH in regions with specific climate patterns. We analyzed the occurrence of aSAH in the capital city of Fujian Province, China, through a multicenter, 5-year study, and aimed to reveal the meteorological influences on aSAH in the coastal city of eastern Fujian under the subtropical marine monsoon condition., Methods: A total of 2555 consecutive patients with aSAH in Fuzhou were collected using specialized stroke admission database from January 2013 to December 2017. Meteorological parameters including temperature, atmospheric pressure, and humidity were obtained from China Surface Meteorological Station during the same period. Poisson regression was used to explore the association between meteorological parameters and aSAH to calculate the incidence rate ratios (IRRs) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Generalized additive model analysis further revealed the nonlinear relationships between weather and aSAH., Results: Daily minimum temperature (IRR 0.976, 95% CI 0.958-0.996) and maximum pressure (IRR 1.022, 95% CI 1.001-1.042) were independently correlated with the onset of aSAH. Low temperature (below 16°C) and excessive atmospheric pressure (above 1008 hPa) increased the risk of aSAH. This paper investigates and counts the ethnic medicines of the Ewenki,Daur and Oroqen ethnic groups,which are known as the " Three Minorities" in Inner Mongolia. Through the methods of literature collection,interview investigation,and resource investigation,different ethnic medicines were collected on the main diseases,drug varieties,drug-injection sites,and drug administration methods. Through data statistics and SPSS analysis,the similarities and individual differences between the three ethnic groups were clarified. The results indicated the predicament of the current national medicine,which is helpful for the protection and inheritance of ethnic medicine.

Aim: Little is known about the long-term change in quality of life (QoL) among children in rural China. This study longitudinally examined changes and predictors of QoL among children in one rural county between 2009 and 2011., Methods: We interviewed 816 children from seven to 16 years of age in 2009 and 2011 using a range of QoL tools. Multivariate forward stepwise linear regression analysis was used to examine the relationships between follow-up QoL and socio-demographic, family environment and psychosocial factors., Results: Overall QoL scores improved significantly from 71.1 ± 14.6 to 72.8 ± 16.3 (p = 0.005). QoL was positively related to annual family income (β = 0.14, p < 0.001) and baseline QoL (β = 0.21, p < 0.001) and negatively related to older age (β = -0.19, p < 0.001), being female (β = -0.08, p = 0.011), being left in the care of family members by working parents (β = -0.09, p = 0.004), negative coping styles (β = -0.10, p = 0.005) and depression (β = -0.11, p = 0.006)., Conclusion: Quality of life significantly improved among children in rural China over a two-year period from 2009 to 2011. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with suicidal ideation among HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MSM) in Anhui, China. A cross-sectional study was conducted to recruit HIV-positive MSM in Anhui, China. A total of 184 HIV-positive MSM gave informed consent and completed the interview. Correlates of suicidal ideation were assessed using multivariable logistic regression. Fifty-seven (31%) of HIV-positive MSM had suicidal ideations within six months before the interview. Multivariable analyses showed that learning of their HIV status in the past 12 months (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 3.4, 95% CI = 1.6-7.3), perceived HIV stigma (AOR = 2.4, 95% CI = 1.1-5.2), depression symptoms (AOR = 2.6, 95% CI = 1.1-5.9) and anxiety symptoms (AOR = 2.7, 95% CI = 1.2-6.1) were significantly associated with the suicidal ideation among HIV-positive MSM. The results indicated that suicidal ideation was common among HIV-positive MSM in Anhui, China. There is an urgent need to establish psychological counselling services among HIV-positive MSM in China. We analyzed the incidence of ectopic pregnancy in frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) as a function of natural and hormone replacement cycles and ectopic pregnancy-related factors. In this study, there were 4,034 FET cycles performed in our center between January 2005 and December 2010, and the rates of ectopic pregnancy were compared between natural and hormone replacement cycles. The analysis of ectopic pregnancy-related factors in FET was performed with 1:4 age-matched chi-square tests. The rate of ectopic pregnancy was lower in natural FET cycles (1.46%) than in hormone replacement FET cycles (3.31%) with a statistical significance (P < 0.05). Many factors were associated with ectopic pregnancy in FET, but only treatment protocols were considered as a controllable factor. We conclude that the incidence of ectopic pregnancy is significantly lower in natural FET cycles than in hormone replacement FET cycles. The application of exogenous sex hormones in assisted reproductive cycles may be an important factor to cause ectopic pregnancy in FET. This suggests that care should be taken when selecting the treatment protocol in order to avoid ectopic pregnancy.

The ISSR fingerprintings of 24 mulberry cultivars were constructed. Totally 80 bands were produced using 17 primers selected from 20 primers. Of them, 40 bands showed polymorphism. From the bands amplified, there were three independent ways to identify the mulberry varieties, such as unique ISSR markers, unique band patterns and a combination of the band patterns provided by different primers. ISSRs were very effective in differentiating the mulberry varieties. The mean genetic similarity coefficient, the mean Nei's gene diversity (h), and the mean Shannon's Information index (I) of mulberry cultivars were 0.8731, 0.1210, and 0.1942, respectively. This suggests that the genetic diversity of mulberry cultivars was low and the genetic base was narrow. Both UPGMA cluster and PCA (Principal Coordinates Analysis) analysis showed clear genetic relationships among the 24 mulberry cultivars. The major clusters were related to known pedigree relationships.
