Background: Among the surgical methods for femoral fractures, the Ortho-Bridge System (OBS) appears to heal fractures via an uncommon process. We compared its effectiveness and biomechanical aspects to those of a locking compression plate (LCP) and explained the healing process demonstrated by the OBS. Methods: Eleven femoral shaft fracture cases treated with OBS between July 2017 and May 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical and radiographic data were collected during regular postoperative follow-up visits and assessed via the Harris Hip Score and Knee Society Score. We performed biomechanical experiments of OBS. We simulated different fracture conditions and selected appropriate screw holes at the fracture's far and near segments. The OBS module was placed according to the position of LCP's locking hole at both ends of the fracture; then, a static three-point bending test was performed. Results: All patients had contralateral callus growth with secondary fracture healing. Healing time was 3–5 months with excellent hip and knee function. When the key screw distance was 22–34 mm, the OBS was significantly less stiff than the LCP (P < 0.05). The stiffness of LCP and OBS decreased significantly when the key screw distance was 49–82 mm, with the LCP being slightly stronger (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Femoral shaft fracture treatment with OBS demonstrated secondary healing. When the distance between the key screws was 20–40 mm, the elasticity was higher in OBS than in LCP, possibly producing axial micro-motion to stimulate callus formation and promote fracture healing, which differ from the plate's primary healing process. Objectives. The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is an emerging virus causing substantial morbidity and mortality worldwide. We performed a cross-sectional investigation of SARS-CoV-2 clusters in Suzhou to determine the transmissibility of the virus among close contacts and to assess the demographic and clinical characteristics between index and secondary cases. Methods. We review the clustered patients with SARS-CoV-2 infections in Suzhou between 22 January and 29 February 2020. The demographic and clinical characteristics were compared between index and secondary cases. We calculated the basic reproduction number ( R 0 ) among close contacts with SLI model. Results. By 22 February, 87 patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection were reported, including 50 sporadic and 37 clustered cases, who were generated from 13 clusters. On admission, 5 (20.8%) out of 24 secondary cases were asymptomatic. The male ratio of index cases was significantly higher than that of secondary cases. Additionally, the index cases were more likely to have fever and increased CRP levels than the secondary cases. The R 0 values of clusters displayed a significantly declining trend over time for all clusters. The relative risk of infection in blood-related contacts of cases versus unrelated contacts was 1.60 for SARS-CoV-2 (95% CI: 0.42-2.95). Conclusions. In conclusion, SARS-CoV-2 has great person-to-person transmission capability among close contacts. The secondary cases are more prone to have mild symptoms than index cases. There is no increased RR of secondary infection in blood relatives versus unrelated contacts. The high rate of asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infections highlights the urgent need to enhance active case finding strategy for early detection of infectious patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• Field survey of fifteen 500kV power line and a 8000MW convertor station is conducted. • Raw material and equipment production contribute over 90% emissions, recycle saves 25%. • Construction carbon emissions of nine UHVDC projects in China are estimated. • A negligible carbon cost is found if the projects deliver green electricity full load. Ultra-high voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission make it possible for efficient large-scale long-distance renewable energy deliver, while the infrastructure construction consumes significant amounts of material and energy. The carbon tradeoffs are often overlooked, however, hindering a holistic evaluation of its climate benefits. Here, by collecting field construction data from fifteen 500 kV transmission projects and applying the field data in a Life Cycle Assessment framework, we estimate the infrastructure-induced emissions of nine recently-constructed UHVDC projects in China to be 16.7 Mt CO 2 , which is negligible compare to an annual reduction of 305.2 Mt CO 2 these projects contribute by delivering renewable electricity at full load, multiplied by a 40-yr service lifetime. The tradeoff results may evolve with advancing energy storage technology at exporting region or CCUS application at importing region. Low-carbon strategies for UHVDC construction are therefore favored, especially under China's commitment to expanding UHVDC construction along the Belt and Road Initiative. Abstract: Electric bikes and regular bicycles play an important role in the urban transportation system of China. Red-light running is a type of highly dangerous behavior of two-wheeled riders. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the rate, associated factors, and behavior characteristics of two-wheelers’ red-light running in China. A field observational study was conducted using two synchronized video cameras at three signalized intersections in Beijing. A total of 451 two-wheelers facing a red light (222 e-bike riders and 229 cyclists) were observed and analyzed. The results showed that 56% of the two-wheelers crossed the intersection against a red light. Age was found to be a significant variable for predicting red-light runners, with the young and middle-aged riders being more likely than the old ones to run against a red light. The logistic regression analysis also indicated that the probability of a rider running a red light was higher when she or he was alone, when there were fewer riders waiting, and when there were riders already crossing on red. Further analysis of crossing behavior revealed that the majority of red-light running occurred in the early and late stages of a red-light cycle. Two-wheelers’ crossing behavior was categorized into three distinct types: law-obeying (44%), risk-taking (31%) and opportunistic (25%). Males were more likely to act in a risk-taking manner than females, and so were the young and middle-aged riders than the old ones. These findings provide valuable insights in understanding two-wheelers’ red-light running behaviors, and their implications in improving road safety were discussed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The present study investigated the relationship between sharps injuries and job burnout in nurses. Sharps injury questionnaires and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) questionnaires were used to investigate and analyze job burnout among 468 nurses, of which 458 effective questionnaires were collected, for a response rate of 97.86%. A total of 292 nurses had at least one sharps injury (63.76% of the 458 nurses). The dimension scores were higher for injured nurses compared with non-injured nurses. The difference between the dimensions of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization for nurses with sharps injuries was statistically significant ( P < 0.05). A rank correlation analysis showed that these two dimensions had a positive correlation with sharps injuries (r = 0.69-0.78). The prevalence of sharps injuries in nursing is associated with depersonalization, as measured by the MBI. Nursing administrators should pay more attention to clinically burned-out nurses, and provide more opportunity to nurses for training and education to reduce the prevalence of sharps injuries. The tidal bore at the estuary of the Qiantang River in China is one of the most spectacular bores in the world. Although it is a famous scenic spot, it may cause disasters due to its destructive power. In this paper, a new numerical model, based on a Godunov-type scheme with the water level–bottom topography formulation combined with the improved wet/dry techniques, is constructed to numerically simulate the tidal bore on the Qiantang River. The simulated results using the model agree well with observed data, which shows that the model can reproduce the formation, evolution, and dissipation of the tidal bore on the Qiantang River. The article focuses on the need to build a teacher base in institutions of higher education in China. In order to overcome the grim situation in building a teacher base, new ideas should be brought into the system. Then an innovative teacher base of appropriate size that has a rational structure and scientific management should be built. A stable teacher base is of utmost importance to schools for the implementation of their ideas, continuity in teaching, shaping their unique features, laying down a culture and expanding their social impact. Making innovations in building the teacher base in institutions of higher education is an involved and systematic process. The nation's rejuvenation is founded on education; the rejuvenation of education is founded on teachers; building a teacher base is founded on bringing new life to the system. Therefore, it has become essential to grasp the seriousness of the situation in institutions of higher education. While following the path of marketization, modernization and internationalization of teacher base, reform must be the motivation and making innovations to the system must be the priority.

• Phenylboronic acid-functionalized magnetic UiO-66 MOF was fabricated (CPBA@UiO-66@Fe 3 O 4). • CPBA@UiO-66@Fe 3 O 4 possesses a high affinity towards benzoylurea insecticides through synergistic interactions. • MSPE-HPLC method based on CPBA@UiO-66@Fe 3 O 4 exhibited satisfactory linearity, precision, and sensitivity. • The developed method was applied to six tea infusion samples successfully. This research involves the construction of a phenylboronic acid-functionalized magnetic UiO-66 metal-organic framework (MOF) nanoparticle (CPBA@UiO-66@Fe 3 O 4). Its design is primarily for the magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of benzoylurea insecticides. An organic ligand, 2-amino terephthalic acid (2-ATPA), facilitated the introduction of amino groups while keeping the original crystal structure of UiO-66 intact. The constructed UiO-66 MOF showcases a porous structure and extensive surface area, thereby providing an optimal platform for further functionalization. The employment of 4-carboxylphenylboronic acid as a modifier notably amplified the extraction efficiency for benzoylureas. This improvement was due to the formation of B-N coordination and other secondary interactions. By integrating this with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), we established a quantitative analytical method for benzoylurea insecticides. This method achieved a wide linear range (2.5–500 μg L−1 or 5–500 μg L−1), satisfactory recoveries (83.3–95.1%), and acceptable limits of detection (LODs: 0.3–1.0 μg L−1). The developed method proved successful when applied to six tea infusion samples, representing China's six major tea categories. To investigate the clinical features of COVID-19 cases in Suzhou China. Biomarkers were screened out of hematological parameters for risk stratification. Confirmed COVID-19 adult patients in Suzhou were included. The patient data was collected, and the results of laboratory examinations were compared between the mild/moderate and severe COVID-19 groups. A ROC was calculated to compare the diagnostic performance of candidate indexes, and dynamic levels of hematological indexes were compared between the two groups. 75 patients were enrolled, with a mean age of 46.6 ± 14 years, and 45 patients were male. All patients were classified into two groups: the mild/moderate group and the severe group. WBC, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), D-dimer, and fibrinogen levels of the severe group were significantly higher (P < 0.05) than the mild/moderate, and the lymphocyte was lower. The ROC test showed that the hematological parameters had a larger AUC than that of inflammatory factors. There was a significant difference in lymphocyte and fibrinogen levels between the two groups on day 1 (P < 0.05). However, NLR of the severe group was higher than the mild/moderate on days 1, 4 and 14 (P < 0.01), and so was D-dimer on days 1, 7 and 14 (P < 0.05). The common COVID-19 abnormal hematological indexes on admission included hyperfibrinogenemia, lymphopenia, the elevation of D-dimer, and leukopenia, which were significantly different between the mild/moderate and severe COVID-19 groups. Furthermore, the dynamic change of NLR and D-dimer level can distinguish severe COVID-19 cases from the mild/moderate. • Most common symptoms of Suzhou COVID-19 are fever, cough and sore throat. • COVID-19 has characteristics of abnormal hematological indexes. • NLR and D-dimer can be used as valuable biomarkers for risk stratification of COVID-19. Data concerning the transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in asymptomatic and paucisymptomatic patients are lacking. We report a 3-family cluster of infections involving asymptomatic and paucisymptomatic transmission. Eight of 15 (53%) members from 3 families were confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 infection. Of 8 patients, 3 were asymptomatic and 1 was paucisymptomatic. An asymptomatic mother transmitted the virus to her son, and a paucisymptomatic father transmitted the virus to his 3-month-old daughter. SARS-CoV-2 was detected in the environment of 1 household. The complete genomes of SARS-CoV-2 from the patients were > 99.9% identical and were clustered with other SARS-CoV-2 sequences reported from China and other countries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Seaweed, or macroalgae has traditionally been part of Asian cuisine for decades and is also becoming increasingly popular as a food source in Europe and other Western countries. However, seaweed can accumulate elements from the environment and consequently may be a source of exposure to toxic elements, or potentially harmful levels of micronutrients. Food safety issues related to the use of seaweed as food and animal feed are very important given the increased use of such products. Current standards, regulations and recommendations regarding heavy metals (cadmium, lead and mercury), arsenic and iodine in seaweed food and feed products in China and Europe are included in this review. Furthermore, the levels of these elements in different seaweed products, dietary exposure, and risk management measures for seaweed products are also discussed. The chemical hazards of particular concern in seaweeds are iodine, inorganic arsenic and cadmium depending on seaweed species, consumption and processing or preparation methods. In the absence of harmonized international standards or guidelines that specifically address food safety of seaweed production, processing and utilization, there are considerable differences in the regulations and standards concerning inorganic contaminants and iodine among different countries. Evaporitic deposits put great influence on the division of diagenetic systems, and different diagenetic systems experienced different diagenetic evolutions during geological history. In this research, we investigated genesis mechanism of dolomite in different diagenetic system from the Cambrian in Tarim Basin through the analysis of sedimentology, petrology and geochemistry. We conclude that the pre-salt was an open hydrothermal fluid transformation system, the inter-salt system was a nearly closed evaporation system dominated by seawater, and evaporated seawater caused dolomitization by reflux-seepage process. While the post-salt system was mainly affected by meteoric water. Abundant energy resources that are found in Tarim Basin are hosted in pervasively dolomitized carbonates of the Cambrian age. The thick dolostone is distributed widely, deeply buried and quite complex in diagenesis. The middle Cambrian gypsum sequence is widespread in west of the Tarim basin. From bottom to top, the Cambrian is divided into pre-salt, inter-salt and post-salt with various diagenesis types and degree causing different sealing properties. Subsurface core samples from the three systems were studied using cathodoluminescence (CL), isotope studies (δ13C, δ18O and 87Sr/86Sr), fluid inclusion, and elemental analysis for rare earth elements (ΣREE) to determine the origin of the dolomitizing fluids. Trace elements and isotope data show that high salinity seawater was most likely responsible for dolomitization of pre-salt system. Likewise, the pre-salt system has been the result of an open hydrothermal fluid transformation system. The inter-salt system was sealed by the upper gypsum layer and lower gypsum layer. The gypsum layer not only enhanced the sealing property of inter-salt strata but also impeded dolomitization, where the evaporating seawater caused dolomitization by reflux-seepage process. Therefore, the inter-salt system was a nearly closed evaporation system dominated by the seawater. The geochemical parameters reveal that the post-salt system has a variety of fluid sources and mainly interacts with meteoric water and seawater, since the C isotope was clearly negative and Y/Ho ratio was found low(＜30). Paeonia suffruticosa Andr. (Tree peony) is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine, which has been widely cultivated for thousands of years and its root bark is used in many prescriptions. Oil peony (Paeonia ostii and Paeonia rockii) has been planted in large areas since tree peony seed oil was approved as a new food resource by the National Health Commission (Ministry of Health) of P.R. China in 2011. However, tree peony leaves were often regarded as waste resources during cultivation and there were few comparative studies on the chemical constituents of tree peony leaves from different origins. In this study, thirty-five P. ostii leaves from four provinces in China were taken as the research objects. The methods of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC-DAD) fingerprinting combined with multivariate analysis, including similarity analysis (SA), principal component analysis (PCA), orthogonal partial least square method-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), were used to evaluate the difference of chemical composition between thirty-five samples. UPLC-ESI-Q/TOF-MS/MS and HPLC-DAD were used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of characteristic components. The results showed that seventeen common characteristic peaks were screened from HPLC fingerprints and the similarity of thirty-five samples was between 0.864 and 0.999. Thirty-five samples from different origin were divided into four groups by OPLS-DA and PCA, but not HCA. Meanwhile, ten compounds were found to be the most closely related marker components for quality evaluation. In addition, 56 characteristic chemical components were preliminarily identified from P. ostii leaves by UPLC-ESI-Q/TOF-MS/MS technology. Finally, the quantitative analysis results showed that there were some differences in the chemical contents of seven characteristic components in thirty-five P. ostii leaves. This study provided a reasonable method for the discrimination and quality evaluation of P. ostii leaves from different producing areas, and laid a foundation for the comprehensive utilization and development of P. ostii resources. Objective. To present our experience of using transperitoneal subcostal access, Palmer’s point (3 cm below the left costal margin in the midclavicular line), and its right corresponding site, in urologic laparoscopy. Methods. We used Palmer’s point and the right corresponding site for initial access in 302 urologic surgeries (62 cases with prior surgeries). The record of these cases was reviewed. Results. Success rate of initial access is 99.4%, and complication rate of puncturing is only 3.4% with no serious complication. In the cases with prior surgeries, there were only two cases with access complication on the right side (minor laceration of liver). For people with BMI more than 30 kg/m2 (12, 3.9%), the success rate was also 100 percent. Conclusions. Palmer’s point and the corresponding right location are feasible, effective, and safe for initial access in urologic laparoscopic surgeries. Nitrogen (N) and sulfur (S) deposition rates have changed rapidly in China during recent years. But few studies have simultaneously measured wet N and S deposition rates on different land use types in the same region. In present study, 238 precipitation samples were collected between May 2016 and April 2017 using wet-only auto-samplers, and the wet N and S deposition rates were measured at three sites with different land use types (urban, agriculture, and lake) in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD), Eastern China. The annual wet deposition rates of total N (TN), ammonium (NH 4 +), nitrate (NO 3 −), dissolved organic N (DON), water-insoluble particulate N (WIPN), and sulfate (SO 4 2−) were 16.87–26.64, 6.38–10.81, 5.92–11.11, 1.43–1.96, 2.23–2.67, and 9.07–22.53 kg N (S) ha−1 yr−1, respectively. The wet N and S deposition rates were in the order: agriculture > urban > lake sites, and the seasonal variations in wet N and S deposition were similar at all sites. DON and WIPN contributed 6.4–11.8% and 10.7–16.2% of the total wet N deposition, respectively. Chemical N fertilization and fossil fuel were important sources of wet N and S deposition. Annual wet N and S deposition are important nutrient sources that stimulate the eutrophication and soil/water acidification in the YRD. To minimize the environmental cost of wet N and S deposition in the YRD, it is critical to investigate the sources of N and S.
