Background: Baseline serological biomarkers have the potential to predict the benefits of adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with gastric cancer. However, the fluctuating nature of postoperative recurrence risk makes precise treatment challenging. We aimed to develop a risk score in real-time predicting outcomes for postoperative GC patients using blood chemistry tests. Materials and methods: This was a retrospective, multicentre, longitudinal cohort study from three cancer centres in China, with a total of 2737 GC patients in the pTNM stage Ib to III. Among them, 1651 patients with at least two serological records were assigned to the training cohort. Model validation was carried out using separate testing data with area under curve (AUC). The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and random forest-recursive feature elimination (RF-RFE) algorithm were used to select the parameters. Results: The Cox regression model derived six risk factors to construct a composite score (low-risk: 0-2 score; high risk: 3-6 score), including CEA, CA125, CA199, haemoglobin, albumin, and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio. The risk score accurately predicted mortality in 1000-time bootstrap (AUROCs:0.658; 95% CI: 0.645, 0.670), with the highest AUROC (0.767; 95% CI: 0.743, 0.791) after 1 year since the gastrectomy. In validation dataset, the risk score had an AUROC of 0.586 (95% CI 0.544, 0.628). Furthermore, patients with high risk at 1 month derived significant clinical benefits from adjuvant chemotherapy (P for interaction <0.0001). Compared with the low-low-low risk group, the low-low-high risk group of the long-term state chain (risk state at baseline, 6 months, 1 year) had the worse OS (HR, 6.91; 95%CI: 4.27, 11.19) and DFS (HR, 7.27; 95%CI: 4.55, 11.63). Conclusion: The dynamic risk score is an accurate and user-friendly serological risk assessment tool for predicting outcomes and assisting clinical decisions after gastrectomy. South China belongs to the northern geographic branch of the Australasian strewn field (AASF) of tektites and microtektites, and this area is assumed to be part of the uprange region of the putative impactor trajectory that formed the yet undiscovered source crater. Ferromagnetic minerals in impact glass may record the magnetization process and thermal history of impact melt, but the possible identity of ferromagnetic minerals in AASF tektites from South China is elusive. Here, we perform a rock magnetism and crystallography study of iron‐sulfur spherules in Muong Nong‐type tektites from South China, revealing abundant single‐domain and pseudo single‐domain nano‐grains of magnetite within the spherules. This result is consistent with the detection of magnetic signals caused by single‐domain and pseudo single‐domain magnetite in these samples. Compared to the large value ranges of magnetic properties of tektites in the entire strewn field, individual specimens of both Muong Nong‐type and single splash‐form tektites have relatively homogeneous magnetic properties in terms of magnetic susceptibility, natural remanent magnetization (NRM), saturation isothermal remanent magnetization (SIRM) and NRM/SIRM ratio. The results indicate that the impact melt that formed each tektite specimen experienced similar thermal history, and most AASF tektites from South China were cooled in an ambient magnetic field that is the same order of magnitude as the Earth's magnetic field. South China, the northern part of the Australasian strewn field (AASF) of tektites and microtektites is located at the uprange of the hypothesized source crater that is still unconfirmed. Magnetic properties of impact glasses are an important indicator of their source materials and thermal history. Extensive magnetic investigations have been performed on various AASF tektites sampled from both the Indochina Peninsula and further south, but such information remains sparse for those sampled from South China. Here, we present a detailed rock magnetism study for both Muong Nong‐type and splash‐form AASF tektites from South China, showing that all the tektites have rather weak remanent magnetization, but ferromagnetic information can be extracted from their dominating paramagnetic signal. Signals caused by superparamagnetic particles are elusive, but those of single domain magnetite are detected in the splash‐form tektites, and signals of pseudo‐single domain magnetite are discovered in the Muong Nong‐type tektites. Each morphological type of tektites from a same geographic area exhibits large dispersions in their magnetic properties. Across the entire AASF, the Muong Nong‐type tektites from South China exhibit the lowest average magnetic susceptibility, and the splash‐form tektites exhibit the smallest average natural remanent magnetization and ratio of equivalent magnetization. The observed heterogeneous magnetic properties are mainly caused by the different contents and sizes of magnetic particles, which can be explained by the different shock level and/or cooling history of the tektite melts. Micro‐sized immiscible Fe‐S spherules in the Muong Nong‐type tektites from South China were likely originated from the pre‐impact target. Instantaneously, massive continental sediments were molten and ejected, and natural glasses (tektites) were quenched and deposited across vast areas over 1 × 108 km2, forming the largest known Cenozoic strewn field of tektites and microtektites, the Australasian strewn field (AASF). Based on relevant literature, this study adopted entrepreneurial learning theory to construct a relationship model between entrepreneurial learning and entrepreneurial intention. In this framework, entrepreneurial learning was divided into three dimensions: entrepreneurial education learning, experiential learning, and social network learning. A questionnaire survey was conducted among 1,399 undergraduate students in Zhejiang Province to investigate how entrepreneurial learning influenced entrepreneurial intention, while considering the mediating effect of entrepreneurial self-efficacy. This empirical research found that: (1) experiential learning and social network learning had significant positive impacts on entrepreneurial intention, but there was no significant relationship between entrepreneurial education learning and entrepreneurial intention; (2) entrepreneurship education learning and social network learning had significant positive relationships with entrepreneurial self-efficacy, but experiential learning had a significant negative relationship with entrepreneurial self-efficacy; and (3) entrepreneurial self-efficacy partially mediated the relationship between experiential learning, social network learning, and entrepreneurial intention, and fully mediated the relationship between entrepreneurial education learning and entrepreneurial intention. Glasses cooled from impact melt and vapor are a common component in lunar regolith, carrying important information about protolith composition, regolith formation, and impact flux on the Moon. Interpretations, however, are frequently challenged due to widespread ambiguity in determining their provenances. Regolith samples returned by China's Chang'E‐5 mission provide a unique opportunity to study the microscopic mechanism of regolith reworking on the Moon, because as evidenced by the coherent radioisotope ages and petrographic characteristics of basaltic clasts in the regolith, the Chang'E‐5 regolith was mainly evolved from local mare materials, containing minor exotic components. Here, we report 153 glass particles larger than 20 μm in diameters that were screened from 500 mg of Chang'E‐5 regolith. Most glass particles have rotational shapes and contain structural and/or compositional heterogeneities in interiors, and geochemical analyses reveal a dominant origin as impact melt of local mare materials. Surfaces of the impact glasses are observed to have abundant protruded and dented microstructures, which are classified as different groups based on their morphology and geochemistry. Similar microstructures were observed on impact spherules collected by the Apollo and Luna missions, but those on the Chang'E‐5 impact glasses were formed without substantial involvement of exotic ejecta. Microstructures such as silicate melt pancakes that frequently exhibit flow spikes at margins, nano‐phase iron‐rich mounds that are arranged with semi‐equidistant spaces in curves and patches, spatially clustered microcraters that are indicative of secondary impacts, and blunt linear scratches with terminal particles all suggest that regolith reworking mainly occurred among local materials at low speeds. Lunar impact glasses are mainly melted from surface regolith, and microstructures on their surfaces record the history of subsequent regolith reworking. However, resolving this issue has been a persistent difficulty by both remote observations and sample analyses. China's Chang'E‐5 mission returned regolith samples from one of the youngest mare units on the Moon, and earlier sample analyses revealed little exotic components. In 500 mg of Chang'E‐5 regolith, we handpicked 153 glass particles that are larger than 20 μm. Most of the particles are heterogeneous impact glasses that contain voids and unmelted fragments, and geochemical analyses showed that the remaining structurally homogeneous particles were also impact glasses formed from local regolith. Based on high‐resolution microscopic imaging and elemental mapping, we recognized and classified the abundant protruded and dented microstructures on the glass particles. Morphology and crosscutting relationship of the microstructures suggest that they were mostly formed during regolith reworking by low‐speed events of local materials that had various thermophysical states (vapor, melt, and solid). Context: Although metabolic profiles appear to play an important role in menopausal bone loss, the functional mechanisms by which metabolites influence bone mineral density (BMD) during menopause are largely unknown.Objective: We aimed to systematically identify metabolites associated with BMD variation and their potential functional mechanisms in peri- and postmenopausal women.Design and Methods: We performed serum metabolomic profiling and whole-genome sequencing for 517 perimenopausal (16%) and early postmenopausal (84%) women aged 41 to 64 years in this cross-sectional study. Partial least squares regression and general linear regression analysis were applied to identify BMD-associated metabolites, and weighted gene co-expression network analysis was performed to construct co-functional metabolite modules. Furthermore, we performed Mendelian randomization analysis to identify causal relationships between BMD-associated metabolites and BMD variation. Finally, we explored the effects of a novel prominent BMD-associated metabolite on bone metabolism through both in vivo/in vitro experiments.Results: Twenty metabolites and a co-functional metabolite module (consisting of fatty acids) were significantly associated with BMD variation. We found dodecanoic acid (DA), within the identified module causally decreased total hip BMD. Subsequently, the in vivo experiments might support that dietary supplementation with DA could promote bone loss, as well as increase the osteoblast and osteoclast numbers in normal/ovariectomized mice. Dodecanoic acid treatment differentially promoted osteoblast and osteoclast differentiation, especially for osteoclast differentiation at higher concentrations in vitro (eg,10, 100 μM).Conclusions: This study sheds light on metabolomic profiles associated with postmenopausal osteoporosis risk, highlighting the potential importance of fatty acids, as exemplified by DA, in regulating BMD. Background: To compare the application value of serum and urinary ß2-microglobulin in immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN). Methods: Two hundred thirteen patients were hospitalized at the First Affiliated Hospital of Bengbu Medical College in China because of physical abnormalities and diagnosed with IgAN by means of renal biopsy between January 2010 and December 2018. ß2-MG levels in serum and urine were detected through immunoturbidimetric methods. The renal histopathology was quantified according to Katafuchi semi-quantitative standards and Lee's grading. Results: One hundred twenty-four patients were male and 89 cases were female, for a 1.39:1 male to female ratio. The average age was 38.25 ± 12.48 years old when patients received their first renal biopsy. The levels of serum ß2- MG and urine ß2-MG increased gradually with the aggravation of tubulointerstitial lesions. Results of correlation analysis showed that serum ß2-MG had higher application value. Serum ß2-MG levels were positively correlated with SCr and tubulointerstitial lesions (r = 0.840, 0.652, p = 0.000), negatively correlated with CG-eGFR (r = -0.680, p = 0.000). The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that serum ß2-MG was a marker of independent risk factor for the score of tubulointerstitial lesions = 3 (OR = 6.649, p = 0.000). ROC analysis showed better diagnostic performance for serum ß2-MG, with the optimal cutoffs in predicting tubulointerstitial score = 1, score = 4 and score = 7 of 1.905 mg/L, 2.13 mg/L, and 4.49 mg/L, respectively. Conclusions: Serum ß2-MG is valuable in evaluating renal function and pathological lesions in IgAN patients and has significant predictive value in evaluating tubulointerstitial lesions. Background: The goal was to study the role of serum IgA in patients with IgA nephropathy (IgAN) found during physical examination, and to explore its value in diagnosis, assessment of pathological injury, and clinical prediction of IgAN. Methods: The study included 457 patients who were hospitalized between January 2010 and June 2018 due to physical abnormalities and diagnosed with kidney disease via renal biopsy. Renal histopathology was quantified according to Katafuchi semi-quantitative standards, while the IgAN patients were also scored according to Lee's grading system. Results: The average age of the 457 patients was 39.62 ± 13.52 years when abnormalities were found during physical examination. IgAN (202 cases, 46.12%) was the most common type of primary glomerulonephritis in the 457 patients. Of the IgAN patients, 75.25% (152 cases) were under 45 years old at the time of abnormal physical examination and IgAN patients were significantly younger than non-IgAN patients. There was a significant difference in the gender ratio between IgAN patients and non-IgAN patients (X2 = 4.24, p = 0.039). In IgAN patients, the proportion of male patients, serum creatinine (SCr), the glomerular lesion and tubulointerstitial scores, and serum IgA were statistically higher than in non-IgAN patients with other types of primary glomerulonephritis; however, MDRD-GFR was lower. The ROC curve of serum IgA in the diagnosis of IgAN showed the AUC was 0.602. One hundred forty-seven cases (72.77%) were Lee's III - V grade. The proportion of patients who were at Lee's III - V grades in the normal serum IgA group (184 cases) was higher than that of the elevated serum IgA group (18 cases). There were no significant differences in gross hematuria, proteinuria, MDRD-GFR, SCr, and hypertension between the two groups. Conclusions: Serum IgA may be of little value in the diagnosis of patients with IgA nephropathy detected via physical examination. A nationwide intercomparison exercise for estimating the irradiated dose was organized by the National Institute for Radiological Protection, Center for Disease Control and Prevention of China. Thirty-eight laboratories participated in this program. The main objective of this intercomparison exercise was to compare the participants' ability of operation and dose assessment basing on the frequencies of dicentrics and centric rings. Whole blood samples were irradiated with different dosages of 60Co g-rays. Each laboratory collected 2 blind samples and prepared the slides independently. All participants presented the estimated dose reports within 30 days. The doses assessed by the participants were acceptable within the reference dose of +20%. The mean absolute difference of estimated dose relative to the reference dose was calculated, which reflected the overall accuracy of dose estimates for each laboratory. The overall estimation results of blind blood samples for intercomparison showed a good agreement with the reference dose for each sample, with nearly 75% of the participants producing acceptable results. Unlabelled: BACKGROUnD: To determine whether the professional Omron HBP-1300 blood pressure (BP) monitor meets American Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) accuracy standards in Chinese children and adults.Method: According to the AAMI protocol, simultaneous auscultatory measurements by two observers using a mercury manometer were obtained in participants using the Omron HBP-1300. Triple measurements were obtained after a minimum 5-min rest with a 1-min interval between adjacent measurements.Results: A total of 85 participants submitted to 255 doctor-measured BP and 255 successful professional monitor readings. The initial auscultation systolic BP was <100 mmHg in 25 participants (29.4%), 100-160 mmHg in 53 participants (62.4%), and >160 mmHg in seven participants (8.2%). All of the simultaneous measurements agreed to within ± 10 mmHg, while 95% agreed to within ± 4 mmHg for both systolic and diastolic BP, and the consistency between two observers was satisfactory. The difference between the devices was -1.3 ± 3.6 mmHg for systolic BP and 0.7 ± 3.8 mmHg for diastolic BP and by AAMI method 1, which met this guideline. The average difference between two devices by AAMI method 2 was 1.4 ± 3.2 mmHg for systolic BP and 1.0 ± 3.9 mmHg for diastolic BP, which met this guideline.Conclusion: The professional BP monitor Omron HBP-1300 is desirable for measuring the BP for Chinese children and adults. With reference to three secondary schools in Beijing, this study investigates students' perceptions of multiple identities at four levels - self, local, national, and global - and the ways in which students form multiple identities. The study uses a mixed methodology of questionnaires and interview surveys to collect data, and identifies four patterns of Beijing students' multiple identities: a high value on self-identity, a strong affective orientation toward local and national identity, minimal distinction between local and national identities, and an imagined global identity. This study provides empirical data that both supplements and challenges the existing literature on citizenship and citizenship education in the context of globalization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article tracks the changes in the directions of the international flow of Chinese human capital between the 1870s and 2000s. Although many studies on international academic flow adopt the pull-and-push approach, this article argues that the direction of human capital flow is not determined solely by an individual's choice when faced with a pulling or pushing force; it can also be affected by people's psychocultural perception of overseas study, the international relations between host and source countries, the nation state's higher education policy, and social changes in both the domestic and the global contexts. China's experience exemplifies the potential of a developing country's success in influencing the distribution of internationally mobile students and in altering its status in the world system from that of a country on the periphery to that of one approaching the core. Objective: The objective of this study is to develop and validate the Chinese Making Sense of Adversity Scale (CMSAS) to measure the cognitive coping strategies that Chinese people adopt to make sense of adversity. Method: A 12-item CMSAS was developed by in-depth interview and item analysis. The scale was validated with a sample of 627 Chinese international students in Australia and Mainland Chinese students in Hong Kong. Results: Exploratory factor analysis identified two factors: making positive sense and making negative sense of adversity. The CMSAS exhibited high internal consistency reliability and good concurrent validity. Conclusion: The CMSAS is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring the coping strategies used by Chinese people to make sense of adversity. However further validation of the scale is needed. Objective: The purpose of the present study was to compare the predictive effects of acculturative stressor and meaning of life on negative affect in the process of acculturation between Chinese international students in Australia and Hong Kong. Method: Four hundred mainland Chinese students studying at six universities in Hong Kong and 227 Chinese international students studying at the University of Melbourne in Australia completed a questionnaire that included measures of acculturative stressor, meaning of life, negative affect and demographic information. Results: The Australian sample was found to have a higher level of acculturative stressor and negative affect than the Hong Kong sample. Acculturative stressor had a positive impact on negative affect in both samples, but the impact of different domains of acculturative stressor on negative affect varied between the two groups. Finally, meaning of life partially mediated the relationship between acculturative stressor and negative affect in the Hong Kong sample, but no such effect was found in the Australia sample. Conclusions: Acculturative stressor is a critical risk factor for negative affect in acculturation for Chinese international students in Australia and Hong Kong. Meaning of life acted as a protective factor that mitigated negative affect for mainland Chinese students in Hong Kong, but not for the Chinese international students in Australia. The theoretical and practical implications for resilience-based and meaning-oriented intervention for Chinese international students are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A great deal of research has addressed the tension between economic globalization and local cultural identity, and the tension between convergence in global policy objectives and divergence in local practices, but research has not explored the impact of the complex interactions between these tensions on an individual university, especially in relation to university autonomy. This paper attempts to bridge this gap. Based on a case study of Tsinghua University in China, this paper explores the university's role in three interrelated processes: the incorporation of international experience into higher education, in order to respond to economic globalization; the reinforcement of political education, as a means of preserving the state-prescribed cultural identity; and the quest for autonomy, to facilitate the university's move towards world-class status. Tensions raised by the interaction of these processes will also be discussed. This paper concludes by applying the concept of ‘glocalization’—i.e., ‘thinking and acting both globally and locally’—as a means of understanding the complex interrelations of global, national, and local factors that inform the translation of global imperatives into local realities in the context of Tsinghua. The invention of pottery introduced fundamental shifts in human subsistence practices and sociosymbolic behaviors. Here, we describe the dating of the early pottery from Xianrendong Cave, Jiangxi Province, China, and the micromorphology of the stratigraphic contexts of the pottery sherds and radiocarbon samples. The radiocarbon ages of the archaeological contexts of the earliest sherds are 20,000 to 19,000 calendar years before the present, 2000 to 3000 years older than other pottery found in East Asia and elsewhere. The occupations in the cave demonstrate that pottery was produced by mobile foragers who hunted and gathered during the Late Glacial Maximum. These vessels may have served as cooking devices. Submerged macrophyte restoration is the key stage in the reestablishment of an aquatic ecosystem. Previous studies have paid considerable attention to the effect of multiple environmental factors on submerged macrophytes. Meanwhile, few studies have been conducted regarding the spatial and seasonal characteristics of water and sediment properties and their long-term relationship with submerged macrophytes after the implementation of the submerged macrophytes restoration project. On a monthly basis, we monitored the spatial and seasonal variation in water parameters, sediment properties, and the submerged macrophyte characteristics of West Lake in Hangzhou from August 2013 to July 2019. From these measurements, we characterized the relationship between environmental factors and submerged macrophytes. Water nutrient concentrations continuously decreased with time, and the accumulation of sediment nutrients was accelerated as the submerged macrophyte communities developed on a long-term scale. The results indicated that the difference in water parameters was due to seasonal changes and land-use types in the watershed. The differences in the sediment properties were mainly attributed to seasonal changes and changes in the flow field. Redundancy analysis showed that the influence of water nutrients on the submerged macrophyte distribution was greater than that of sediment nutrients. The result also suggested that the developed root system, high stoichiometric homeostasis coefficients of P, and compensation ability of substantial leaf tissue may lead to a large distribution of Vallisneria natans in West Lake in Hangzhou. The correlation of water parameters and sediment properties with submerged macrophytes for a long time was very important as the restoration was achieved. To ensure the stability of the aquatic ecosystem after performing the submerged macrophyte restoration, a greater emphasis must be placed on reestablishing the entire ecosystem, including the restoration of aquatic animals and fish stocks. Objective: To explore the working mode of continuous malaria elimination., Methods: Judong Village in Congjiang County, Guizhou Province, which had the highest record of malaria incidence in the history of Guizhou Province, was selected as a pilot, a comprehensive prevention and control intervention was carried out aiming at the malaria epidemic, transmission and influencing factors, and the effect was evaluated after the intervention., Results: From 2015 to 2016, through those intensive measures of constructing system, improving environment and health education, the people's awareness of malaria prevention was increased, the people's enthusiasm and initiatives to participate in the prevention and control of malaria were improved in Judong Village. Meanwhile, the roads were hardened and beautified, the dispose of sewage, feces and garbage was centralized. The awareness rate of malaria prevention knowledge of residents increased to 85% to 95%, and the formation rate of anti-mosquito behavior increased to 89.66%. The density of media Anopheles reduced from 0.56 to 0.07 mosquitoes per hour each mosquito catching platform., Conclusions: A long-term mechanism for malaria prevention and control has been almost constructed in Judong Village, which facilitates the consolidation of malaria control achievements, and the progress towards malaria elimination.
