During the past 50 years, many geological and ore-deposit investigations have led to the discovery of the Fe–P–(Ti)-oxide deposits associated with mafic–ultramafic–carbonatite complexes in the Kuluketage block, northeastern Tarim Craton. In this paper, we discuss the genetic and ore-forming ages, tectonic setting, and the genesis of these deposits (Kawuliuke, Qieganbulake and Duosike). LA-ICP-MS zircon U–Pb dating yielded a weighted mean 206Pb/238U ages of 811 ± 5 Ma, 811 ± 4 Ma, and 840 ± 5 Ma for Kawuliuke ore-bearing pyroxenite, Qieganbulake gabbro and Duosike ore-bearing pyroxenite, respectively. The CL images of the Kawuliuke apatite grains show core–rim structure, suggesting multi-phase crystallisation, whereas the apatite grains from Qieganbulake and Dusike deposits do not show any core–rim texture, suggesting a single-stage crystallisation. LA-ICP-MS apatite 207Pb-corrected U–Pb dating provided weighted mean 206Pb/238U ages of 814 ± 21 Ma and 771 ± 8 Ma for the Kawuliuke ores, and 810 ± 7 Ma and 841 ± 7 Ma for Qieganbulake and Duosike ores, respectively. The core–rim texture in apatite by CL imaging as well as two different ore-forming ages in the core and rim of the apatite indicate two metallogenic events for the Kawuliuke deposit. The first metallogenic period was magmatic in origin, and the second period was hydrothermal in origin. The initial ore-forming age of the Kawuliuke Fe–P–Ti mineralisation was ca 814 Ma and the second one was ca 771 Ma. On the other hand, the ore-forming ages of the Qieganbulake and Duosike deposits were ca 810 Ma and ca 841 Ma, respectively. Qieganbulake and Duosike deposits were of magmatic origin. Combined with previous geochronological data and the research on the tectonic background, we infer that the Kawuliuke, Qieganbulake and Duosike Fe–P–(Ti)-oxide deposits were formed in a subduction-related tectonic setting and were the product of subduction-related magmatism. The molecular composition of Carboniferous-Permian coals in the maturity range from 0.66 to 1.63% vitrinite reflectance has been analysed using organic geochemistry to investigate the factors influencing the biomarker compositions of humic coals. The Carboniferous-Permian coal has a variable organofacies and is mainly humic-prone. There is a significant difference in the distribution of saturated and aromatic hydrocarbons in these coals, which can be divided into three types. The Group A coals have biomarker compositions typical of humic coal, characterised by high Pr/Ph ratios, a lower abundance of tricyclic terpanes with a decreasing distribution from C19 tricyclic terpane to C24 tricyclic terpane and a high number of terrigenous-related biomarkers, such as C24 tetracyclic terpane and C29 steranes. The biomarker composition of Group B coals, which were deposited in a suboxic environment, have a higher abundance of rearranged hopanes than observed in Group A coals. In contrast, in Group C coals, the Pr/Ph ratio is less than 1.0, and the sterane and terpane distributions are very different from those in groups A and B. Group C coals generally have abnormally abundant tricyclic terpanes with a normal distribution maximising at the C23 peak; C27 steranes predominates in the m/z 217 mass fragmentograms. The relationships between biomarker compositions, thermal maturity, Pr/Ph ratios and depositional environments, indicate that the biomarker compositions of Carboniferous-Permian coals in Ordos Basin are mainly related to their depositional environment. This leads to the conclusion that the biomarker compositions of groups A and B coals collected from Shanxi and Taiyuan formations in the northern Ordos Basin are mainly related to their marine-terrigenous transitional environment, whereas the biomarker compositions for the Group C coals from Carboniferous strata and Shanxi Formation in the eastern Ordos Basin are associated with marine incursions. Adjacent debris flows may interact in many ways: two or more concurrent debris flows may merge; one debris flow can run out over an existing debris flow fan. Such interactions may cause debris flow properties to change in the mixing process as well as more severe adverse effects than those caused by a single debris flow. This paper aims to investigate the interactions among channelized debris flows originated from adjacent catchments. Both concurrent and successive debris flows are considered. If several debris flows originate from different locations concurrently and merge, the volumetric sediment concentration (i.e., the ratio of the volume of solid material to the total volume of debris flow), C , is a good index to capture the mixing process of these debris flows. The change in C reflects where mixing occurs and the mixing degree. The debris flow properties (e.g., yield stress and dynamic viscosity) evolve in the mixing process and can be captured by the change in C . The debris flow with a larger volume dominates the mixing process, and the properties of the mixed debris flow are more similar to those of the larger debris flow. The inundated areas and runout distances of successive debris flows are smaller than those of concurrent debris flows of the same total volume due to the smaller scales of the individual events and blockage by the earlier debris flows. However, the deposit depth in the interacting part of the debris flow fans of successive debris flows can be much larger than that of concurrent debris flows, leading to more destructive cascading hazards (e.g., the formation of debris barrier lakes). Summary: We established a chronic kidney disease (CKD) mouse model with estrogen deficiency and inserted titanium implants into the femur of such mice to investigate the fixation of the implants. Both the histomorphometry and implant resistance indicated that estrogen deficiency impaired the fixation of titanium implants inserted into such mice. Introduction: CKD has been regarded as a worldwide public health problem. Estrogen is a critical factor for both renal protection and bone remodeling. A previous study demonstrated that CKD impairs the early healing of titanium implants. However, the combined effect of estrogen deficiency and CKD on the fixation of titanium implants is largely unknown. Methods: Forty 9-week-old female C57BL mice were randomly divided into sham, ovariectomy (OVX), CKD, and CKD + OVX groups. Uremia and estrogen deficiency were induced by 5/6 nephrectomy and OVX, respectively. Experimental titanium implants were inserted into the distal end of the femur. Bone-implant contact (BIC) ratio and bone volume (BV/TV) around the implants were histomorphometrically analyzed. The fixation strength of the implant was measured by a biomechanical push-in resistance test. Results: Serum measurement confirmed a significant increase in serum blood urea nitrogen (BUN) in the CKD group, which was further increased by OVX. Estrogen deficiency led to significant decreases in the BIC ratio, BV/TV, and the push-in resistance in CKD animals. There was a significant interaction between the effects of OVX and CKD, with OVX exacerbating the effects of CKD on BIC ratio and push-in resistance. Conclusions: The results indicated that estrogen deficiency exerts a synergistic effect with CKD and further impairs the fixation of titanium implants in CKD mice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Conventional PCR and two real-time PCR (RTi-PCR) methods were developed and compared using the primer pairs CQULA03F/CQULA03R and CQULA04F/CQULA04R, and TaqMan probe CQULAP1 designed from a species-specific sequence of the rplJ/rplL ribosomal protein gene, for diagnosis of citrus huanglongbing (HLB) disease in southern China. The specificity and sensitivity of the three protocols for detecting ‘ Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus’ in total DNA extracts of midribs collected from infected citrus leaves with symptoms in Guangxi municipality, Jiangxi Province and Zhejiang Province, were tested. Sensitivities using extracted total DNA (measured as copy number, CN per µL of recombinant plasmid solution) were 439·0 (1·30 × 105 CN µL−1), 4·39 (1·30 × 103 CN µL−1) and 0·44 fg µL−1 (1·30 × 102 CN µL−1) for conventional PCR, TaqMan and SYBR Green I (SGI) RTi-PCR, respectively. SGI RTi-PCR was the most sensitive, but its specificity needed to be confirmed by running a melt-curve assay. The TaqMan RTi-PCR assay was rapid and had the greatest specificity. Concerning the correlation of PCR detection results with the various HLB symptoms, uneven mottling of leaves had the highest positive rate (96·50%), indicating that leaf mottling was the most reliable symptom for field surveys. Dynamic analysis results from the TaqMan assays showed that the titre (CN) g−1 citrus tissue of ‘ Ca. L. asiaticus’ was highest between October and December (threshold cycle ( Ct) average = 29·3, CN = 3·35 × 107) and lowest between March and May ( Ct average = 32·0, CN = 5·10 × 106) in 2004 and 2005. The optimized molecular-based assays should prove useful for presymptom diagnosis of HLB disease, monitoring and identification of ‘ Ca. L. asiaticus’, and field epidemic regulation. The height and boundary shape of a water-permeable fractured zone (WFZ) play an important role in mining safety under challenging conditions; for example, when the coal seam is subject to a confined aquifer or the roadway is designed in close range to the coal seam. For the accurate estimation of the WFZ height, the theoretical prediction method was introduced based on the overlying composite strata structure and an empirical equation. In situ detection of the WFZ height and shape was performed in the Zhaizhen coal mine, China. The field detection was executed by injecting water into boreholes. Based on the analysis results of the variation in water seepage along these boreholes, the fracture intensity and the permeability of the overlying strata were studied, and the height and boundary shape of the WFZ were also confirmed. The measured height was consistent with the theoretical estimation, verifying that the WFZ developed upwards through the strata group acting as a unit. The final boundary of the WFZ presented an irregular saddle shape, and the boundary angle was approximately 75°–78°. According to the height and shape of the WFZ induced by mining of the lower coal seam, the fracture intensity and scope of the surrounding rock and the mining feasibility of the upper coal seam was evaluated in the Zhaizhen mine. Background: This is a retrospective cohort study from a single center of Chest Medical District of Nanjing Brain Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University, Jiangsu Province, China. It was aim to evaluate the diagnostic value of radial endobronchial ultrasound (R-EBUS) combination with rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) guided transbronchial lung biopsy (TBLB) for peripheral pulmonary lesions in patients with emphysema., Methods: All 170 patients who underwent PPLs with emphysema received an R-EBUS examination with or without the ROSE procedure, and the diagnostic yield, safety, and possible factors influencing diagnosis were analyzed between the two groups by the SPSS 25.0 software., Results: The pooled and benign diagnostic yields were not different in the two groups (P = 0.224, 0.924), but the diagnostic yield of malignant PPLs was significantly higher in the group with ROSE than the group without ROSE (P = 0.042). The sensitivity of ROSE was 79.10%, the specificity, 91.67%, the positive predictive value, 98.15%, and the negative predictive value, 84.62%. The diagnostic accuracy, was 95.52%. In the group of R-EBUS + ROSE, the procedural time and the number of times of biopsy or brushing were both significantly reduced (all P<0.05). The incidence of pneumothorax (1.20%) and bleeding (10.84%) in the group of R-EBUS + ROSE were also less than those in the group of R-EBUS (P<0.05). The lesion's diameter ≥ 2 cm, the distance between the pleura and the lesion ≥ 2 cm, the positive air bronchograms sign, the location of the ultrasound probe within the lesion, and the even echo with clear margin feature of lesion ultrasonic image, these factors are possibly relevant to a higher diagnostic yield. The diagnostic yield of PPLs those were adjacent to emphysema were lower than those PPLs which were away from emphysema (P = 0.048) in the group without ROSE, however, in the group of R-EBUS + ROSE, there was no such difference whether the lesion is adjacent to emphysema or not (P = 0.236)., Conclusion: Our study found that the combination of R-EBUS and ROSE during bronchoscopy procedure was a safe and effective modality to improve diagnostic yield of PPLs with emphysema, especially for malignant PPLs. The distance between the pleura and the lesion ≥ 2 cm, the positive air bronchograms sign, the location of the ultrasound probe within the lesion, and the even echo with clear margin feature of lesion ultrasonic image, these factors possibly indicated a higher diagnostic yield. Land use plays a critical role in managing water quality in a watershed, as it governs the import and distribution of nutrients. In addition to the land use, some rivers in Southwest China are encountering a new environmental stressor of damming, which is being driven by the national strategy of hydropower development. However, the coupling effect of land use and dams on nutrients remains poorly understood, challenging the effective management of riverine water quality. Therefore, this study examined the nutrients in the Nu, Yarlung Tsangpo (YT), and Lancang (LC) Rivers, which have no dam, 1 dam, and 11 dams, respectively, during different regulatory periods (spring and fall) to identify variations in nutrient control patterns influenced by land use and dams. The findings suggested that an increase in hydropower development contributed to a notable shift in nutrient patterns from land use regulation towards dam regulation and coupling effects. Land use dominated the nutrient variations of the Nu (27.4 %-32.8 %) and low hydropower development YT (25.2 %-30.9 %) Rivers during both seasons, but the primary contributors to the nutrient variations of the high hydropower development LC River were dams (17.9 %-41.6 %) and coupling effects (16.5 %-29.0 %). Dams transform nutrient levels and compositions through internal reservoir cycling, decoupling land use and nutrients. Partial least-squares structural equation model analysis further suggested that the coupling effects of the LC River were seasonal-specific, which was primarily attributed to hydrological variations that affected their interactions. During spring, the reservoir underwent a drainage mode characterized by high-level nutrients in the bottom water. Combined with the import of riverine nutrients, it exacerbated the increase of nutrients (synergistic effect). Organic phosphorus (Po) mineralization hydrolyzed by alkaline phosphatase (APase) can replenish bioavailable P load in the sediment water ecosystem of lakes. However, the understanding about the interaction between P load and bacteria community encoding APase generation in the sediment are still limited. Different P pools in the sediments from Taihu Lake, China were measured using sequential extraction procedure. The APAase activity (APA) were obtained accompanying with enzymatic dynamical parameters Vmax and Km. The abundances and diversity of gene phoD-harboring bacterial communities were assessed using high throughput sequencing. The analysis results showed the decrease of potentially bioavailable P fractions including MgCl 2 -P and Fe-P along sampling gradient southwards together with active P concentrations in the water. Conversely, increasing APA and absolute abundance of phoD gene were found with the decreasing of P loads southwards. Positive correlation (p < 0.05) between absolute abundance and APA indicated that phoD-encoding bacteria manipulated the APA and Po mineralization. Negative correlation (p < 0.01) suggested that the APA was restrained by high P load and was promoted under low P condition. However, higher Vmax and Km values suggested that high mineralization potential of Po maintained the high concentrations of potentially bioavailable P even the APA was restricted. The abundance increase of predominant genus Cobetia (from 15.51 to 24.34 %) mirrored by the reduced Calothrix abundance (from 24.65 to 1036 %) was speculated to be responsible for the APA promotion under low P condition. Higher diversity indices in the high P scenario suggested that high P load stimulated the ecological diversity of gene phoD-encoding bacteria community. Generally, rare taxa such as Burkholderia having high connected degrees in bacterial communities together with abundant genera synergistically manipulated the phoD gene abundance and APase generation. Lexical databases are essential tools for studies on language processing and acquisition. Most previous Chinese lexical databases have focused on materials for adults, yet little is known about reading materials for children and how lexical properties from these materials affect children's reading comprehension. In the present study, we provided the first large database of 2999 Chinese characters and 2182 words collected from the official textbooks recently issued by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the People's Republic of China for most elementary schools in Mainland China, as well as norms from both school-aged children and adults. The database incorporates key orthographic, phonological, and semantic factors from these lexical units. A word-naming task was used to investigate the effects of these factors in character and word processing in both adults and children. The results suggest that: (1) as the grade level increases, visual complexity of those characters and words increases whereas semantic richness and frequency decreases; (2) the effects of lexical predictors on processing both characters and words vary across children and adults; (3) the effect of age of acquisition shows different patterns on character and word-naming performance. Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a major cause of death worldwide, and Chinese TB burden ranked the second globally. Chinese primary healthcare (PHC) sectors implement the TB Control Program (TCP) to improve active case finding, referral, treatment adherence, and health education. This study aimed to identify barriers and enablers of TCP implementation in high TB burden regions of West China., Methods: We conducted a representative study using mixed-methods in 28 counties or districts in Chongqing Municipality and Guizhou Province of West China from October 2021 to May 2022. Questionnaire surveys and semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 2720 TB healthcare workers (HCWs) and 20 interviewees in PHC sectors. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to investigate TB HCWs' characteristics, and path analysis model was utilized to analyze the impact of associated factors on TCP implementation. Thematic framework analysis was developed with the guide of the adapted Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) on factors of TCP implementation., Results: This study found that 84.6% and 94.1% of community and village HCWs had low professional titles. Based on the results of multiple regression analysis and correlation analysis, lower TB core knowledge scores (-0.09) were identified as barriers for TCP implementation in community PHC sectors, and low working satisfaction (-0.17) and low working willingness (-0.10) are barriers for TPC implementation in village PHC sectors. The results of in-depth interviews reported barriers in all domains and enablers in four domains of CFIR. There were identified 19 CFIR constructs associated with TCP implementation, including 22 barriers such as HCWs' heavy workload, and 12 enablers such as HCWs' passion towards TCP planning., Conclusions: With the guide of the CFIR framework, complex factors (barriers and enablers) of TCP implementation in PHC sectors of West China were explored, which provided important evidences to promote TB program in high TB burden regions. Objective: The majority of intrauterine devices (IUDs) inserted in China are tailless, requiring intrauterine manipulations for removal and causing pain. This study aimed to investigate the analgesic efficacy of lidocaine injection into a novel disposable injectable cervical dilator for IUD removal procedures., Study Design: A double-blinded, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial was conducted with women aged 18-65 years old requesting outpatient IUD removal. The study randomly assigned participants to either lidocaine (injecting 5 ml of 2% lidocaine into the injectable cervical dilator) or placebo (injecting 5 ml of normal saline into the device) group. All participants received a standardized paracervical block. The primary outcome was pain reported during IUD removal on a 100 mm Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Intention-to-treat were conducted to evaluate the analgesic effectiveness of injecting lidocaine into the injectable cervical dilators., Results: We enrolled seventy-four eligible participants (37 in lidocaine group and 37 in placebo group). The results showed that the median intraoperative VAS score in the lidocaine group was lower than the placebo group (30.0 mm [IQR 20.0-46.0, n = 37] vs 46.0 mm [IQR 30.0-55.0, n = 37], p = 0.01. In subgroup analyses, among participants with IUD removal and without uterine manipulation and additional procedures, there was no statistically significant disparity observed in intraoperative VAS scores between the lidocaine and placebo group (15.0 mm [IQR 10.0-27.5, n = 8] vs 20.0 mm [IQR 20.0-40.0, n = 6]), p = 0.28). Among participants with an IUD removal necessitating intrauterine manipulations and without additional procedures, showing lower intraoperative VAS scores in lidocaine group (25.0 mm [IQR 15.0-40.5, n = 17]) compared to placebo group (46.0 mm [IQR 38.5-50.0, n = 23]), p < 0.01. Among participants with additional procedures in addition to IUD removal, there was no statistically significant disparity observed in intraoperative VAS scores between the lidocaine and placebo group (41.0 mm [IQR 32.5-57.5, n = 12] vs 45.0 mm [IQR 22.5-69.0, n = 8]), p = 0.97)., Conclusions: Injecting lidocaine into the novel disposable injectable cervical dilator for cervix dilation can significantly reduce pain during an IUD removal, particularly in patients necessitating intrauterine manipulations during IUD removal., Implications: When we have to perform intrauterine manipulations to remove an IUD, surgical pain and narrow cervical canal undoubtedly affect the implementation of the procedure. To investigate the changes in the intestinal flora in the Chinese elderly with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its correlation with the metabolism of trimethylamine (TMA), the intestinal flora composition of elderly individuals with CVD and healthy elderly individuals was analyzed using 16S rRNA sequencing, the TMA levels in the feces of elderly were detected using headspace-gas chromatography (HS-GC), and four kinds of characterized TMA-producing intestinal bacteria in the elderly were quantified using real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). The results showed that Firmicutes , Actinobacteria , Proteobacteria , Bacteroidetes , and Verrucomicrobia are the dominant microorganisms of the intestinal flora in the Chinese elderly. And there were significant differences in the intestinal bacteria composition between healthy elderly individuals and those with CVD, accompanied by a notable difference in the TMA content. The richness and diversity of the intestinal flora in the elderly with CVD were higher than those in the healthy elderly. Correlation analysis indicated that certain significantly different intestinal flora were associated with the TMA levels. Our findings showed a significant difference in TMA-producing intestinal flora between healthy elderly individuals and those with CVD. The TMA levels were found to be positively and significantly correlated with Klebsiella pneumoniae , suggesting that this bacterium is closely linked to the production of TMA in the elderly gut. This may have implications for the development and progression of CVD in the elderly population.

Total dissolved gas (TDG) supersaturation caused by flood discharge water poses a threat to vital activities such as migration, foraging, and evasion in fish species upstream of the Yangtze River, which may impair the ability of fish to pass through fishways during the migration period, causing poor utilization of fishways. Previous studies have shown that TDG supersaturation reduces the critical and burst swimming abilities of fish, suggesting potential adverse effects on swimming performance. However, studies focusing on the impact of TDG on fish swimming behavior in experimental vertical-slot fishways remain scarce. Therefore, in this study, silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) and ya-fish (Schizothorax prenanti) were used as the study species, and comparative passage experiments were carried out in an experimental vertical slot fishway to systematically analyze the effects of TDG supersaturation on their passage behavior. The passage success of the silver carp was 57%, 39%, 26%, and 27% at TDG levels of 100%, 110%, 120%, and 130%, respectively. Passage success of ya-fish was 73%, 37%, 31%, and 35% at TDG concentrations of 100%, 110%, 120%, and 130%, respectively. The passage time for both species increased significantly with increasing TDG levels. Furthermore, the passage routes of silver carp changed significantly compared to the control group, whereas the passage routes of ya-fish changed insignificantly. High levels of TDG supersaturation (≥120%) also contributed to a higher mortality rate of ya-fish passing through the vertical slot fishway. Intention: Immunosuppressive therapy is the major treatment approach for patients with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis (AAV). Due to impaired cellular immunological function and the use of glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants, AAV patients are predisposed to opportunistic infections, including tuberculosis (TB). This retrospective study aims to analyze the clinical characteristics of patients with AAV and TB and explore suitable glucocorticoid regimens for them. So as to provide a basis for future clinical guidelines and have important value for guiding clinical treatment., Methods: This study retrospectively reviewed 58 AAV patients (18-80 years old) with TB admitted to Changsha Central Hospital Affiliated with the University of South China from 2016.1 to 2023.4 Patients were divided into standard-dose and reduced-dose glucocorticoid groups before retrospectively analyzing their medical records., Results: A total of 58 AAV patients with TB were enrolled, with 15 dying throughout the monitoring period. Through analysis data, compared with the standard-dose group, the reduced group had less proteinuria and hematuria. In survival analysis, the reduced-dose glucocorticoid group had lower mortality than the standard-dose group (P = 0.03); however, no significant difference was noted in the use of immunoglobulin (P = 0.39), tuberculosis activity (P = 0.64), and age stratification (P = 0.40). The BVAS score before treatment and 6 months post-treatment suggest that the two regimens cause the same risk of ESKD (P > 0.05)., Conclusion: In conclusion, the reduced glucocorticoid dose group can achieve the same curative effect as the standard dose group and has less damage to the kidney in hematuria and proteinuria. The National Sustainable Development Agenda Innovation Demonstration Zones (NSDAIDZs) aim to spearhead green development through scientific and technological innovation, showcasing sustainable development to other regions in China and offering valuable insights for countries worldwide. Taking Chengde City, which is one of the cities in the second batch of NSDAIDZs, as a case study, we examine the quantitative impact of technological innovation on green development. Additionally, it investigates the threshold effect of Research and development investments (R&D investments) on the relationship between technological innovation and green development. The results indicate that: (1) technological innovation has a positive promoting effect on green development, with a 1.01% increase in green development for every one unit increase in technological innovation; (2) The positive effect of technological innovation on green development becomes fully realized only when R&D investments and the upgrading of industrial structure surpass a specific threshold value. We contribute to the existing research on the connection between technological innovation and green development in innovation demonstration zones. Background: The rise in e-cigarette use among youth is a significant global public health issue. It is important to identify those at increased risk and implement effective strategies to reduce e-cigarette popularity among the youth., Objective: This study aims to identify predictors of e-cigarette uptake in youths with no prior tobacco use, considering individual, familial and the broader societal environmental factors., Methods: For this investigation, a group of 2,487 tobacco-free youths was selected from 15 high schools in Shenzhen, China. Susceptibility to e-cigarettes was determined by assessing the possibility of future use and the openness to trying e-cigarettes if presented by friends. Both chi-square tests and logistic regression were applied to identify factors linked to susceptibility to e-cigarette use., Results: Among the respondents, 5.5% ( n  = 136) were found to be susceptible to e-cigarette use. The analysis revealed factors tied to this risk: perceptions of e-cigarettes, the impact of vaping peers, paternal parenting styles, the extent of social support, exposure to messages both for and against e-cigarettes use, and secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure. Youths who downplayed the addictive nature of e-cigarettes (aOR = 2.01; 95% CI: 1.14-3.55; p  = 0.016), those with friends who engaged in vaping (aOR = 3.43-7.64; 95%CI: 2.36-20.42; p  < 0.001), those experiencing over-protective or rejective maternal parenting (aOR = 1.68-3.01; 95%CI: 1.11-5.77; p  = 0.001-0.014) or rejective paternal parenting (aOR = 3.63; 95%CI: 1.99-6.59; p  < 0.001), those aware of e-cigarette advertisements (aOR = 1.82; 95%CI: 1.28-2.60; p  = 0.001), and those exposed to SHS at home (aOR = 1.68; 95%CI: 1.17-2.41; p  = 0.005) or at public places (aOR = 1.72-1.79; 95%CI: 1.21-2.57; p  = 0.002-0.003) were more prone to e-cigarettes. In contrast, youths who believed using e-cigarettes reduces one's attractiveness (aOR = 0.34; 95%CI: 0.16-0.72; p  = 0.005) or perceived that vaping made social interactions less enjoyable (aOR = 0.26; 95%CI: 0.12-0.58; p  = 0.001), those who benefited from high social support (aOR = 0.30-0.60; 95%CI: 0.17-0.97; p  < 0.001), and those who noticed message about e-cigarettes' adverse consequence (aOR = 0.54; 95%CI: 0.38-0.77; p  = 0.001) were less likely to be inclined toward e-cigarette use., Conclusion: The propensity of the youth to e-cigarette usage is shaped by a multiple element. Background: The impact of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) on the quality of life of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) has been rarely reported. Additionally, the challenges faced by these patients in seeking medical care have often been overlooked. In order to explore the personal struggles caused by LUTS and the difficulties or barriers experienced by Chinese patients with BPH when seeking help, we conducted a qualitative interview study., Methods: Qualitative interviews were conducted among 46 patients with BPH who were hospitalized in three tertiary hospitals in China from July 2021 to November 2022. Grounded theory was adopted as the methodology for the qualitative study. After obtaining written informed consent from the study participants, semi-structured interviews were conducted according to the question guidelines. The interview process was audio-recorded; subsequently, the recordings were transcribed, coded, and thematically analyzed., Results: The difficulties faced by Chinese patients with BPH were classified into seven main themes: (i) disturbed life, (ii) mental burden, (iii) disease cognition and communication, (iv) delayed treatment, (v) medication status, (vi) hospital visits barriers, and (vii) medical insurance issues. Further, each theme was subdivided into 2-5 sub-themes., Conclusions: LUTS have a certain effect on the life and spirit of patients with BPH. These patients face different degrees of difficulties in treatment and hospital visits. While negative associations between behavioral inhibition/shyness and social competence are well established for children from Western cultures, the directions of these associations have been inconsistent for Chinese children, partly due to the ongoing social-cultural changes in China. Drawing from three samples of young Chinese children (born between 2009 and 2019), we aim at examining how inhibition/shyness predicts cooperative behaviors and prosocial behaviors throughout early childhood. In Study 1 ( N = 700, children aged between 36 and 72 months), mother-reported inhibition/shyness was negatively associated with mother-reported cooperative and prosocial behaviors during the preschool years. In Study 2 ( N = 251, at 6, 15, 25, and 37 months of children's ages), mother-reported inhibition/shyness in infancy was negatively associated with mother-reported cooperative behaviors but was not related to observed cooperative behaviors at the early preschool age. Infancy inhibition/shyness was negatively associated with mother-reported and observed prosocial behaviors. In Study 3 ( N = 95, at 14, 25, 38, and 60 months of children's ages), the inhibition/shyness trait, assessed by both observation and maternal report, did not predict any indicators of cooperative behaviors. Early childhood inhibition/shyness, however, still predicted fewer observed and mother-reported prosocial behaviors. On balance, our research supports a negative association between early inhibition/shyness and later prosocial behaviors. The mixed findings concerning cooperative behaviors are interpreted in light of sociopolitical changes in China during the past two decades. Background: Mitochondrial DNA's (mtDNA) haplogroups and SNPs were associated with the risk of different cancer. However, there is no evidence that the same haplogroup or mitochondrial SNP (mtSNP) exhibits the pleiotropic effect on multiple cancers., Methods: We recruited 2,489 participants, including patients with colorectal, hepatocellular, lung, ovarian, bladder, breast, pancreatic, and renal cell carcinoma. In addition, 715 healthy individuals from Northern China served as controls. Next, cross-tumor analysis was performed to determine whether mtDNA variation is associated with multiple cancers., Results: Our results revealed a significant decrease in the occurrence risk of multiple cancers among individuals belonging to haplogroup A [OR = 0.553, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.375-0.815, P = 0.003]. Furthermore, we identified 11 mtSNPs associated with multiple cancers and divided the population into high-risk and low-risk groups. Low-risk groups showed a significantly reduced risk of occurrence compared with high-risk groups (OR = 0.614, 95% CI = 0.507-0.744, P < 0.001). Furthermore, using interaction analysis, we identified a special group of individuals belonging to haplogroup A/M7 and the low-risk population, who exhibit a lower risk of multiple cancers compared with other populations (OR = 0.195, 95% CI = 0.106-0.359, P < 0.001). Finally, gene set enrichment analysis confirmed that haplogroup A/M7 patients had lower expression levels of cancer-related pathway genes compared with haplogroup D patients., Conclusions: We found that specific mtDNA haplogroups and mtSNPs may play a role in predicting multiple cancer predisposition in Chinese populations., Impact: This may provide a potential tool for early screening in clinical settings for individuals in the Chinese population., (©2024 American Association for Cancer Research.)

Urban-rural integration is the critical process of urbanization, while during this process there are various corresponding problems generated, safety is the most important one, especially at urban-rural fringe areas due to mixed traffic flow and complicated land use. This study intended to investigate the injury severity interaction between urban area and urban-rural fringe area, and explore the correlation within injury severity levels and heterogeneity attributed to unobserved factors. To address the correlation and heterogeneity issues, a grouped random parameters seemingly unrelated bivariate (SUB) probit model was proposed, in which the SUB probit model addressed the correlation of residuals, while the random parameters model accommodated the heterogeneity due to unobserved factors. By comparing the pooled with random parameters models, the results showed that random parameters SUB probit model performed better than the pooled one, and the dataset collected from 2013 to 2017 in Chengdu, China was adopted to illustrate the proposed model. It is found that crash location, speed limit and age of person injured are significant for injury severity in urban and urban-rural fringe areas, but crash form plays a significant role in urban area while number of persons involved should be paid more attention due to injury severity in urban-rural fringe area. Some empirical suggestions are presented to improve the safety in urban and urban-rural fringe areas.

A Gram-stain-negative, yellow, moist and circular, aerobic, motile, and rod-shaped bacterium, designated YIM 151497 T , was isolated from soil sample collected from Blue-Bridge, Weizhou Island, Guangxi province, China. Classification using a polyphasic approach suggested that strain YIM 151497 T belonged to the genus Pelagibacterium, and was closely relevant to Pelagibacterium nitratireducens JLT2005 T (98.8%), Pelagibacterium halotolerans CGMCC 1.7692 T (98.7%), Pelagibacterium lixinzhangensis H64 T (98.1%), and Pelagibacterium luteolum CGMCC 1.10267 T (97.1%). The growth ranges of temperature, pH, and NaCl were 4-40 ℃, pH 4.0-10.0, and 0-7% NaCl, respectively. It was positive for catalase and oxidase. The primary respiratory quinone was Q-10. The elemental fatty acids were Summed Feature 8 (constituting C 18:1 ω7c and/or C 18:1 ω6c), C 19:0 cyclo ω8c, C 16:0 , and C 18:1 ω7c 11-methyl. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, and three unidentified glycolipids. The DNA G+C content based on the complete genome sequence was 60.7 mol%. The average nucleotide identity (ANI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) between strain YIM 151497 T and species of Pelagibacterium were in the ranges of 73.9-86.3% and 19.7-31.3%, respectively. The Average Amino Acid Identity (AAI) between strain YIM 151497 T and species of Pelagibacterium were in the ranges of 68.8-88.8%. On the basis of these data, strain YIM 151497 T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Pelagibacterium with the name of Pelagibacterium flavum sp. nov. To understand the current status of public knowledge of automated external defibrillator (AED) and their willingness to use public AED in Hubei Province, along with the influencing factors. A self-designed questionnaire was used for convenience sampling of the public in Hubei Province. The questionnaire consists of three parts: basic information, AED knowledge questions, and willingness to use public AED and influencing factors. Data was collected between May 2022 and March 2023. A total of 1561 valid questionnaires were collected from 1602 distributed. In the study conducted in Hubei Province, it was found that 875 respondents (56.05%) had knowledge of automated external defibrillator, and they achieved an average score of 39.27 ± 29.17. The pass rate for the survey was 28.11%. Several factors were identified as significant influencing factors, including gender, age, education level, occupation related to medicine, residential location in the past three years, family members with cardiovascular disease, marital status, residential population density, whether there are family members over 65 years old, and participation in AED-related training (P < .05).Furthermore, 692 respondents (72.99%) expressed their willingness to cardiopulmonary resuscitation for someone experiencing cardiac arrest. On the other hand, 686 respondents (43.95%) had no knowledge of AED. Among those who were not willing to perform defibrillation, the highest percentages cited "fear of incorrect use" (129, 31.2%) and "fear of harming the patient" (121, 29.3%) as their reasons. The study also found statistically significant differences in the willingness to use public AED based on participation in training, education level, residential location, family members with cardiovascular disease, population density, and the presence of elderly family members aged 65 or over (P < .05). In conclusion, the study highlights the general lack of public knowledge regarding AED in Hubei Province. However, there is a strong willingness among respondents to provide help during cardiac arrest situations. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has experienced various phases including outbreaks, a global health crisis, and eventual de-escalation from a public health emergency of international concern, significantly affecting the delivery and utilization of healthcare services. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the coverage rate of routine immunization in children under varying prevalence conditions., Methods: We conducted a retrospective, population-based cohort study in Beijing, China, utilizing stratified random sampling by birthdate to obtain a sample of 29,811 participants. Subjects were categorized into four cohorts based on when they became eligible for vaccination: the Pre-COVID Period cohort, the COVID-19 Low Epidemic Period cohort, the COVID-19 Surging Period cohort, and the COVID-19 Slowing Down Period cohort. A one-month follow-up was conducted. Cox proportional hazards model was employed to examine associations between the COVID-19 epidemic status and timely vaccination., Results: Participants age-eligible for vaccination during the COVID-19 Low Epidemic Period demonstrated higher rates of timely vaccination (HR 1.18, 95% CI 1.15-1.22) compared to those eligible during the Pre-COVID Period. Conversely, those eligible during the COVID-19 Surging Period displayed lower rates (HR 0.73, 95% CI 0.66-0.82). No significant difference in vaccination timeliness was observed for those eligible during the COVID-19 Slowing Down Period in comparison to the Pre-COVID Period (HR 0.99, 95% CI 0.91-1.09). By the end of May 2023, DTP3 rate among eligible children during the COVID-19 Surging Period had surpassed 90%., Conclusions: Significantly declining rates of timely vaccination were observed during the COVID-19 Surging Period, which lasted two months, but not during the nearly three-year-long COVID-19 Low Epidemic Period. An upward trend in vaccination timeliness followed, culminating in a return to baseline levels over the subsequent 3-4 months. Background: China has the third-largest burden of tuberculosis (TB) cases in the world with great challenges towards ending TB. Primary health care (PHC) sectors play a critical role in TB prevention and control in communities under the Chinese integrated TB control model. However, there is a lack of comprehensive review of research evidence on TB control in PHC sectors under the integrated TB control model in China., Methods: This review was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines. Articles published from 2012 to January 2022 were searched from four international and three Chinese databases. Studies conducted inside mainland China and relevant with TB control service in PHC sectors under the integrated model were included. After study selection, data extraction, and quality assessment, the meta-analysis was performed with RevMan using a random-effect model.When I 2 was more than 50%, subgroup analysis was performed to explore possible reasons for heterogeneity. We also conducted a post hoc sensitivity analysis for outcomes after meta-analysis by exclusion of studies with a high risk of bias or classified as low quality., Results: Forty-three studies from 16 provinces/municipalities in China were included in this review, and most studies included were of medium quality. PHC sectors in East China delivered TB control service better overall than that in West China, especially in tracing of patients and TB case management (TCM). In meta-analyses, both the pooled arrival rate of tracing and pooled TCM rate in East China were higher than those in West China. TB patients had a low degree of willingness to receive TCM provided by healthcare workers in PHC sectors nationwide, especially among migrant TB patients. There were 9 studies reporting factors related to TB control service in PHC sectors, 6 (2 in East and 4 in West China) of which indentified several characteristics of patients as associated factors. The context of PHC sectors was demonstrated to influence delivery of TB control service in PHC sectors in 5 studies (3 in East, 1 in Middle and 1 in West China). Most studies on strategies to promoting TB control services in PHC sectors were conducted in East China and some of these studies identified several online and offline interventions and strategies improving patients' treatment compliance [pooled OR (95% CI): 7.81 (3.08, 19.19] and awareness of TB [pooled OR (95% CI): 6.86 (2.16, 21.72)]., Conclusion: It is of urgent need to improve TB control in PHC sector in China, particularly in West China. A Gram-stain-negative, catalase-positive and oxidase-positive, nonmotile, aerobic, light yellow, spherical-shaped bacterial strain with no flagella, designated strain YIM 152171 T , was isolated from sediment of the South China Sea. Colonies were smooth and convex, light yellow and circular, and 1.0-1.5×1.0-1.5 µm in cell diameter after 7 days of incubation at 28°C on YIM38 media supplemented with sea salt. Colonies could grow at 20-45°C (optimum 28-35°C) and pH 6.0-11.0 (optimum, pH 7.0-9.0), and they could proliferate in the salinity range of 0-6.0 % (w/v) NaCl. The major cellular fatty acids were summed feature 8 (C 18 : 1  ω 7 c /C 18 : 1  ω6 c ), C 18 : 1  ω7 c 11-methyl, C 16 : 0 , C 16 : 1  ω11 c , C 16 : 1  ω5 c , C 17 : 1  ω6 c and C 18 : 1  ω5 c . The respiratory quinone was ubiquinone 10, and the polar lipid profile included diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol mannoside, one unidentified phospholipid and one unidentified aminolipid. Phylogenetic analyses based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences placed strain YIM 152171 T within the order Rhodospirillales in a distinct lineage that also included the genus Geminicoccus . The 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities of YIM 152171 T to those of Arboricoccus pini , Geminicoccus roseus and Constrictibacter antarcticus were 92.17, 89.25 and 88.91 %, respectively. The assembled draft genome of strain YIM 152171 T had 136 contigs with an N50 value of 134704 nt, a total length of 3 001 346 bp and a G+C content of 70.27 mol%. The phylogenetic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic data showed that strain YIM 152171 T (=MCCC 1K08488 T =KCTC 92884 T ) represents a type of novel species and genus for which we propose the name Marinimicrococcus gen. nov., sp. nov.

Residential indoor PM 2.5 were concurrently collected in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Xi'an during the winter and early spring seasons of 2016-2017, for updating the current knowledge of the spatial variation of indoor air pollution and the potential health risks in China. PM 2.5 -bound polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were characterized, and the associated inhalation cancer risks were assessed by a probabilistic approach. Higher levels of indoor PAHs were identified in Xi'an residences (averaged at 176.27 ng m -3 ) with those of other cities ranging from 3.07 to 15.85 ng m -3 . Traffic-related fuel combustion was identified as a common contributor to indoor PAHs through outdoor infiltration for all investigated cities. Indoor PAHs profiles showed city-specific differences, while distinctions between profiles based on indoor activities or ambient air quality were limited. Similar with the total PAHs concentrations, the estimated toxic equivalencies (TEQ) with reference to benzo[a]pyrene in Xi'an residences (median at 18.05 ng m -3 ) were above the recommended value of 1 ng m -3 and were magnitudes higher than the other investigated cities with estimated median TEQ ranging from 0.27 to 1.55 ng m -3 . Incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) due to PAHs inhalation exposure was identified with a descending order of adult (median at 8.42 × 10 -8 ) > adolescent (2.77 × 10 -8 ) > children (2.20 × 10 -8 ) > senior (1.72 × 10 -8 ) for different age groups. Considering the lifetime exposure-associated cancer risk (LCR), potential risks were identified for residents in Xi'an as an LCR level over 1 × 10 -6 was identified for half of the adolescent group (median at 8.96 × 10 -7 ), and exceedances were identified for about 90 % of the groups of adults (10th percentile at 8.29 × 10 -7 ) and seniors (10th percentile at 1.02 × 10 -6 ). Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are ubiquitous pollutants in the urban and regional atmosphere, promote the formation of ozone (O 3 ) and secondary organic aerosols, thereby significantly affecting the air quality and human health. The ambient VOCs at a coastal suburban site in Hong Kong were continuously measured using proton-transfer-reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometry (PTR-ToF-MS) from November 2020 to December 2020. 83 VOC species, including 23 C x H y , 53 C x H y O 1-3 , and 7 nitrogen-containing species, were measured during the campaign, with a mean concentration of 36.75 ppb. Oxygenated VOCs (OVOCs) accounted for most (77.4%) of the measured species, including C x H y O 1 (50.7%) and C x H y O 2 (25.1%). The measured VOC species exhibited distinct temporal and diurnal variations. High concentrations of isoprene and OVOCs were measured in autumn with more active photochemistry, whereas large evening peaks of aromatics from local and regional primary emissions were prominent in winter. The OH reactivity and O 3 formation potential (OFP) of key precursors were quantified. OVOCs contributed about half of the total OH reactivity and OFP, followed by alkenes and aromatics, and the contribution of aromatics increased significantly in winter. The potential source contribution function was used to investigate the potential source regions associated with high VOC concentrations. Through positive matrix factorization analysis, six major sources were identified based on fingerprint molecules. The contributions of biogenic sources and secondary formation to the observed species were notable in late autumn, whereas vehicle emissions and solid fuel combustion had higher contributions in winter. With the development of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, there have been doubts about the necessity of vaccine boosters for healthy adults. However, due to the lack of relevant evidence, current research is unable to provide reliable medical advice for COVID-19 boost in healthy adults. We conducted a retrospective observational study to evaluate the effectiveness of different COVID-19 vaccination regimens by investigating the SARS-CoV-2 infection status of healthy donors in Southeast China. From December 2022 to February 2023, 737 healthy adult blood donors were analyzed. Results showed that any COVID-19 vaccine boosts reduced the risk of Omicron BA.5.2/BF.7 infection compared to only receiving prime vaccination (rVE = 16%, 95%CI = 4, 27%). The second boost further enhanced vaccine effectiveness compared to the received first booster (rVE = 39%, 95%CI = 16, 55%). Through retrospective observation of healthy adults during the BA.5.2/BF.7 surge in China, we found that boost vaccinations significantly reduce the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection and disease. Findings show healthy adults benefit from boost vaccinations, even if not at high-risk for severe COVID-19.

Despite coastal mudflats serving as essential ecological zones interconnecting terrestrial/freshwater and marine systems, little is known about the profiles of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in this area. In this study, characteristics of typical ARGs, involving both intracellular (iARGs) and extracellular ARGs (eARGs) at different physical states, were explored in over 1000 km of coastal mudflats in Eastern China. Results indicated the presence of iARGs and eARGs at states of both freely present or attached by particles. The abundance of eARGs was significantly higher than that of iARGs (87.3% vs 12.7%), and their dominance was more significant than those in other habitats (52.7%-76.3%). ARG abundance, especially for eARGs, showed an increasing trend (p < 0.05) from southern (Nantong) to northern (Lianyungang) coastal mudflats. Higher salinity facilitated the transformation from iARGs to eARGs, and smaller soil particle size was conducive to the persistence of eARGs in northern coastal mudflats. In order to preliminarily explore the distribution of antibiotic pollution in the coastal waters of eastern China, the concentrations of 13 antibiotics in 5 representative coastal rivers in Jiangsu and 21 sampling sites in the coastal waters of Jiangsu were analyzed. The total antibiotic concentrations in the 5 rivers ranged from 33.14 to 417.78 ng L -1 , and the total antibiotic concentrations in the 21 sampling sites ranged from 0.90 to 86.33 ng L -1 . Macrolides exhibited the highest total concentration and the maximum detection frequency in both coastal rivers and the coastal waters. The concentrations of antibiotics in a sampling site decreased as the distance of the sampling site from the coastline increased, indicating that river inputs are important sources of antibiotic pollution in the coastal waters of Jiangsu. The detection frequencies of roxithromycin, lincomycin, azithromycin, and sulfamethoxazole in the rivers and sampling sites were above 70%. Correlation analysis showed that the concentrations of antibiotics were positively correlated with the levels of chemical oxygen demand, total phosphorus, and total nitrogen. Risk assessments revealed that roxithromycin and ofloxacin posed medium ecological and resistance risks, respectively, to the most sensitive aquatic organisms in the coastal waters of Jiangsu. Offshore areas are particularly important in recognizing microplastics pollution because they are sinks of land imports and sources of ocean microplastics. This study investigated the pollution and distribution of microplastics in the offshore Sea, rivers and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Jiangsu coastal area in China. Results showed that microplastics were widely present in the offshore area, with an average abundance of 3.1-3.5 items/m 3 . Significantly higher abundance was present in rivers (3.7-5.9 item/m 3 ), municipal WWTPs (13.7 ± 0.5 item/m 3 ), and industrial WWTPs (19.7 ± 1.2 item/m 3 ). The proportion of small-sized microplastics (1-3 mm) increased from WWTPs (53%) to rivers (64%) and the offshore area (53%). Polyamide (PA), polyethylene (PE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), and rayon (RA) were dominant types of microplastics. Both living and industrial sources contributed to the prevalent microplastics in the offshore Sea. Redundancy analysis showed that small-sized microplastics (1-3 mm) were positively correlated to total phosphorus (TP), while large-sized microplastics (3-5 mm) were positively correlated to TP and NH 3 -N. In this study, we aimed to investigate the long-term spatiotemporal changes in hydrodynamics, antibiotics, nine typical subtypes of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), class 1 integron gene (intI1), and microbial communities in the sediments of a semi-enclosed estuary during ecological restoration with four treatment stages (influent (#1), effluent of the biological treatment area (#2), oxic area (#3), and plant treatment area (#4)). Ecological restoration of the estuary reduced common pollutants (nitrogen and phosphorus) in the water, whereas variations in ARGs showed noticeable seasonal and spatial features. The absolute abundance of ARGs at sampling site #2 considerably increased in autumn and winter, while it significantly increased at sampling site #3 in spring and summer. The strong intervention of biological treatment (from #1 to #2) and aerators (from #2 to #3) in the estuary substantially affected the distribution of ARGs and dominant antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB). The dominant ARB (Thiobacillus) in estuarine sediments may have low abundance but important dissemination roles. Meanwhile, redundancy and network analysis revealed that the microbial communities and intl1 were key factors related to ARG dissemination, which was affected by spatial and seasonal ecological restoration. A positive correlation between low flow velocity and certain ARGs (tetM, tetW, tetA, sul2, and ermC) was observed, implying that flow optimization should also be considered in future ecological restoration to remediate ARGs. Background: Leonurus japonicus, a significant medicinal plant known for its therapeutic effects on gynecological and cardiovascular diseases, has genetic diversity that forms the basis for germplasm preservation and utilization in medicine. Despite its economic value, limited research has focused on its genetic diversity and divergence., Results: The avg. nucleotide diversity of 59 accessions from China were 0.00029 and hotspot regions in petN-psbM and rpl32-trnL (UAG) spacers, which can be used for genotype discrimination. These accessions divided into four clades with significant divergence. The four subclades, which split at approximately 7.36 Ma, were likely influenced by the Hengduan Mountains uplift and global temperature drop. The initial divergence gave rise to Clade D, with a crown age estimated at 4.27 Ma, followed by Clade C, with a crown age estimated at 3.39 Ma. The four clades were not showed a clear spatial distribution. Suitable climatic conditions for the species were identified, including warmest quarter precipitation 433.20 mm ~ 1,524.07 mm, driest month precipitation > 12.06 mm, and coldest month min temp > -4.34 °C. The high suitability distribution showed contraction in LIG to LGM, followed by expansion from LGM to present. The Hengduan Mountains acted as a glacial refuge for the species during climate changes., Conclusions: Our findings reflected a clear phylogenetic relationships and divergence within species L. japonicus and the identified hotspot regions could facilitate the genotype discrimination. Antibiotic treatment is critical for individuals infected with gonorrhea and preventing disease transmission. This study aimed to analyze the antimicrobial susceptibility and molecular epidemiological characteristics of Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolates in Changsha, China. A total of 271 N.gonorrhoeae isolates collected from the clinical laboratories of two hospitals between 2016 and 2021 were analyzed for antimicrobial susceptibility using the agar dilution method. N. gonorrhoeae multi-antigen sequence typing (NG-MAST) was conducted for genotyping, and phylogenetic analysis was performed using the porB and tbpB sequences. The results showed that antimicrobial resistance against ciprofloxacin, tetracycline, and penicillin was high, and these drugs are no longer recommended for the treatment of gonorrhea. All isolates were susceptible to spectinomycin. However, in 2016-2021, a total of 15 (5.5%) ceftriaxone (CRO)-resistant strains and 31 (11.4%) isolates with decreased susceptibility to CRO were found, and the resistance rate to azithromycin had reached 7.1% in 2016-2017. Epidemiologically, the mosaic penA allele was identified in all CRO-resistant isolates. Based on NG-MAST, ST5061 was the most prevalent ST. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that the resistant isolates did not cluster independently. Despite focus on the local situation, this study raises the need for better gonorrhea medication and highlights that CRO may not be adequate as first-line treatment for gonorrhea in Changsha.

Objective: The prevalence and related factors of serum anti-HCV in different regions and hospitals have not been studied extensively in China. We used routine screening data to determine the prevalence of HCV antibody in hospital patients, evaluate the epidemic trend of hepatitis C and formulate screening strategies., Methods: Patient information and HCV antibody testing results were collected from January 2017 to December 2019 in 77 HCV sentinel hospitals in China. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression was used to determine the characteristics and associations., Results: HCV antibody prevalence rates were distinct among patients in different departments, with a range of 0.33%-6.93%. Patients who were admitted to the liver disease-related departments (a OR = 10.76; 95% CI , 10.27-11.28), Internal Medicine (a OR = 2.87; 95% CI , 2.75-3.00), and Department of Surgery (a OR = 1.95; 95% CI , 1.87-2.04), were more likely to be tested for HCV antibody positive. HCV antibody prevalence was associated with patients aged 45 years and older (a OR = 2.74; 95% CI , 2.69-2.80), testing in infetious disease hospitals (a OR = 2.33; 95% CI , 2.26-2.40) and secondary hospitals (a OR = 1.72; 95% CI , 1.69-1.75). Patients in sentinel hospitals of the Northeast (a OR = 12.75; 95% CI , 12.40-13.11), the Central (a OR = 1.65; 95% CI , 1.61-1.70), and the West (a OR = 1.78; 95% CI , 1.73-1.83) China had higher HCV prevalence than those who were in the Eastern coastal area., Conclusion: Those who were over 45 years old and saw doctors for liver diseases, and invasive diagnosis and treatment should be referred to HCV antibody testing., (Copyright © 2023 The Editorial Board of Biomedical and Environmental Sciences. The Three-River Headwaters Region (TRHR) is crucial to the sustainable development of China and Southeast Asia. The sustainability of grassland ecosystems in the region has been seriously challenged in recent years. This paper reviewed the changes in the grasslands of the TRHR and their responses to climate change and human activities. The review showed that accurate monitoring of grassland ecological information is the basis for effective management. Although alpine grassland coverage and the above-ground biomass of the alpine grassland have generally increased in the region over the past 30 years, the degradation has not been fundamentally curbed. Grassland degradation substantially reduced topsoil nutrients and affected their distribution, deteriorated soil moisture conditions, and aggravated soil erosion. Grassland degradation led to loss of productivity and species diversity, and this is already harming the well-being of pastoralists. The "warm and wet" trend of the climate promoted the restoration of alpine grasslands, but widespread overgrazing is considered as one of the main reasons for grassland degradation, and related differences still exist. Since 2000, the grassland restoration policy has achieved fruitful results, but the formulation of the policy still needs to integrate market logic effectively and strengthen the understanding of the relationship between ecological protection and cultural protection. In addition, appropriate human intervention mechanisms are urgently needed due to the uncertainty of future climate change. For mildly and moderately degraded grassland, traditional methods are applicable. However, the severely degraded "black soil beach" needs to be restored by artificial seeding, and the stability of the plant-soil system needs to be emphasized to establish a relatively stable community to prevent secondary degradation.

Brackish water aquaculture has brought numerous economic benefits, whereas anthropogenic activities in aquaculture may cause the dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in brackish water sediments. The intricate relationships between environmental factors and microbial communities as well as their role in ARGs dissemination in brackish water aquaculture remain unclear. This study applied PCR and 16S sequencing to identify the variations in ARGs, class 1 integron gene (intI1) and microbial communities in brackish water aquaculture sediment. The distribution of ARGs in brackish water aquaculture sediment was similar to that in freshwater aquaculture, and the sulfonamide resistance gene sul1 was the indicator of ARGs. Proteobacteria and Firmicutes were the dominant phyla, and Paenisporosarcina (p&#95; Firmicutes) was the dominant genus. The results of correlation, network and redundancy analysis indicated that the microbial community in the brackish water aquaculture sediment was function-driven. The neutral model and variation partitioning analysis were used to verify the ecological processes of the bacterial community. The normalized stochasticity ratio showed that pond bacteria community was dominated by determinacy, which was affected by aquaculture activities. The total nitrogen and organic matter influenced the abundance of ARGs, while Proteobacteria and Thiobacillus (p&#95;Proteobacteria) were the key antibiotic-resistant hosts. Shrub removal is a common management method in forest ecosystems, but comparatively little is known regarding the effects of shrub removal on soil microbial communities among primary forest, secondary forest, and plantation forests in temperate forests, which limits our accurate assessment of sustainable management of understory vegetation removal. Given this, we used a long-term operation experiment across a contrasting mixed broadleaved-Pinus koraiensis forest, Betula platyphylla forest, and Larix gmelinii plantation forest to explore the variations of soil properties and microbial community after 5 years of shrub removal on Changbai Mountain, as well as the contribution of the soil properties and understory plant diversity to the soil microbial community. The results demonstrated that shrub removal could significantly alter soil SWC and TN, TP, and AP contents of the L. gmelinii, as well as N/P of B. platyphylla. Moreover, shrub removal also clearly improved soil bacterial Pielou&#95;e index and Simpson index of mixed broadleaved-P. koraiensis and soil bacterial Simpson index of L. gmelinii, and decreased soil fungal Pielou&#95;e index and Shannon index of L. gmelinii and soil bacterial Pielou&#95;e index and soil fungal Shannon index of B. platyphylla. Identically, shrub removal notably altered the soil bacterial community composition. Soil characteristics and understory plant diversity accounted for 48.02% and 26.88%, and 45.88% and 27.57% of the variance in the bacterial and fungal community composition, respectively. Carbon tax is an important economic instrument in achieving the goal of carbon emission reduction and sustainable development. This paper investigates the effects of carbon tax on carbon emission reduction in China. First, a non-competitive input-output table for Carbon Emissions of 28 sectors in China after Carbon Tax was established, based on the "2018 China Non-competitive Input-Output Table (42 Sectors)" and the carbon emission data of sectors provided by China Carbon Emission Accounts and Datasets (CEADs). Then, an input-output price model was established to study the changes on product price, GDP, employment, and carbon dioxide emissions of 28 sectors after carbon taxing ranged from 10 to 200. When the carbon tax rate reaches 200 yuan/ton, the inflation rate will be 5.907%, the total GDP will be decreased to 1.910%, the total labor force will be decreased to 1.744%, and the total carbon emission reduction rate will be increased to 8.171%. Results showed that with the increases in carbon tax, the inflation rate was increased, the rate of carbon emission reduction was increased, and the negative effects on GDP and employment were also increased. Suggestions on policy making, such as combination of carbon taxing and carbon trading, dynamic adjustment mechanism, tax neutrality, and forcing active carbon reduction, were proposed to minimize the adverse effect of levying carbon tax. The results from this paper would provide a reference for the policy making on carbon management.

Objective: To understand the basic characteristics of previously reported patients with hepatitis C and analyze the related factors affecting their antiviral treatment. Methods: A convenient sampling method was adopted. Patients who had been previously diagnosed with hepatitis C in the Wenshan Prefecture of Yunnan Province and Xuzhou City of Jiangsu Province were contacted by telephone for an interview study. The Andersen health service utilization behavior model and related literature were used to design the research framework for antiviral treatment in previously reported hepatitis C patients. A step-by-step multivariate regression analysis was used in previously reported hepatitis C patients treated with antiviral therapy. Results: A total of 483 hepatitis C patients, aged 51.73 ± 12.06 years, were investigated. The proportion of male, agricultural occupants who were registered permanent residents, farmers and migrant workers was 65.24%, 67.49%, and 58.18%, respectively. Han ethnicity (70.81%), married (77.02%), and junior high school and below educational level (82.61%) were the main ones. Multivariate logistic regression analysis results showed that married patients with hepatitis C ( OR = 3.19, 95% CI : 1.93-5.25, compared with unmarried, divorced, and widowed patients) with high school education or above ( OR = 2.54, 95% CI : 1.54-4.20, compared with patients with junior high school education or below) were more likely to receive antiviral treatment in the predisposition module. Patients with severe self-perceived hepatitis C in the need factor module (compared with patients with mild self-perceived disease, OR = 3.36, 95% CI : 2.09-5.40) were more likely to receive treatment. In the competency module, the family's per capita monthly income was more than 1,000 yuan (compared with patients with per capita monthly income below 1,000 yuan, OR = 1.59, 95% CI : 1.02-2.47), and the patients had a high level of awareness of hepatitis C knowledge (compared with patients with a low level of knowledge, OR = 1.54, 95% CI : 1.01-2.35), and the family members who knew the patient's infection status (compared with patients with an unknown infection status, OR = 4.59, 95% CI : 2.24-9.39) were more likely to receive antiviral treatment. Conclusion: Different income, educational, and marital statuses are related to antiviral treatment behavior in hepatitis C patients. Family support of hepatitis C patients receiving hepatitis C-related knowledge and their families knowing the infection status is more important in promoting the antiviral treatment of patients, suggesting that in the future, we should further strengthen the hepatitis C knowledge of hepatitis C patients, especially the family support of hepatitis C patients' families in treatment.

Remote sensing of air pollution is essential for air quality management and health risk assessment. Many machine-learning-based retrieval models have been established for estimating various kinds of air pollutants. These methods mainly aimed to estimate a single pollutant (single-pollutant approach). However, different air pollutants interact with each other and are highly correlated. Building a unified model and conducting a joint retrieval of multiple pollutant can make a better use of these connections and improve the model efficiency. This study proposed a physics-informed multi-task deep neural network (phyMTDNN) for the joint retrieval of six main air pollutants, i.e., PM 2.5 , PM 10 , SO 2 , NO 2 , CO, and O 3 . The relationships among these pollutants were used to design the physics-informed network structure and loss function. Top-of-atmosphere reflectance which can generate retrieval results at ultrahigh resolution was used as model input. Experiments for mainland China in 2019 showed that the proposed model successfully achieved simultaneous estimation of six air pollutants, with the cross-validated R 2 for the six pollutants varying from 0.72 to 0.90. The contrast experiments proved that physics-informed network structure contributed to the most of the model performance improvement. Compared to the single-pollutant approach, phyMTDNN ameliorated the model accuracy on traces gases retrieval. Furthermore, the modeling efficiency was largely improved in that a lot of repetitive work was avoided and modeling method was optimized. Antibiotics are emerging pollutants largely considered to have a lower risk based on persistent, bioaccumulative, toxic (PBT) risk assessments. However, an increasing number of studies have illustrated that antibiotics are responsible for the global increase in antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which suggests that the risk of antibiotics has been largely underestimated by using PBT risk assessment. Here, we designed an integrated innovation risk assessment framework of persistent, bioaccumulative, toxic, and resistance (PBTR) that accounts for antibiotic resistance to better represent the antibiotic environmental risk. This novel antibiotic risk assessment framework was further verified via application to 39 target antibiotics in the 23 drinking water sources of the lower Yangtze River (LYR), China, during the normal and flood seasons. In contrast with the PBT assessment, single toxicity assessment and single resistance assessment, in the PBTR assessment, 7 of 39 target antibiotics with bacterial insensitivity were observed to represent a more prominent risk, as were the sites sampled during the flood season with low concentrations but high pollution loads, which confirmed that the sensitivity of PBTR risk assessment was instructive. The PBTR risk assessment for the screened priority antibiotics contributes not only representative data but also an innovative approach for identifying resistance risks. Using the positive matrix factorization (PMF) model, the sources of priority antibiotics can be predicted and thus supported the corresponding policy. Background: Although global contraceptive coverage has increased significantly, high rates of unintended pregnancy remain the current global status quo. A comparative analysis of the differences and correlations of knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) of both partners will help guide public health work according to gender characteristics and needs, and reduce the occurrence of unintended pregnancy., Methods: A questionnaire survey of people with unintended pregnancies including women and their male partners ( n = 1,275 pairs) who sought help from the Shanghai General Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine from October 2017 to October 2021. Data were collected on sexual and reproductive health knowledge, attitudes, and practices in both partners who had unintended pregnancies. Chi-square test and Logistic regression were used to analyze the relationship between the occurrence of unintended pregnancy and KAP and its influencing factors. Paired odds ratio and McNemar's test were used to estimate the difference and concordance of KAP between partners., Results: This study included 1,275 partners with a mean age of 30.0 years. The partner's overall level of KAP is good. Compared with women, men had better knowledge (χ 2 = 3.93, p = 0.047) and more active contraceptive practices (χ 2 = 19.44, p < 0.001). In the analysis of partner concordance, male contraceptive intention was found to be better than female [matched pairs odds ratio (OR MP ) = 2.56, p < 0.001], and the concordance of positive contraceptive practice between partners increased with male education [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 1.556, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.185-2.044, p = 0.001]. In partner-paired regression analysis, compared with good contraceptive knowledge in both men and women in the partner, the risk of negative contraceptive practice was 1.7 times (aOR = 1.721, 95% CI = 1.234-2.400, p = 0.001) higher with good contraceptive knowledge in women but negative in men, while women with poor contraceptive knowledge but men with good knowledge are 1.3 times (aOR = 1.349, 95% CI = 1.000-1.819, p = 0.05) more likely to have negative contraceptive practices. In addition, compared with partners with positive contraceptive attitudes, women with positive attitudes but negative men and women with negative attitudes but positive men had 1.7 and 1.4 times the risk of negative contraceptive practices, respectively., Conclusion: The study found that unintended pregnancy occurs mainly in young people, and the younger age of first sexual intercourse, the low education background and the lack of discussion of contraception between partners are risk factors for not taking contraceptive measures. Metal resistance genes (MRGs) are potential bio-indicators to diagnose contamination stress on riverine ecosystems. Within reservoir systems, river damming weakens hydrodynamic condition and enriches metal contaminants. But, little is known about the synergic impacts of geographic variation and anthropogenic pollution on MRGs. In this study, the abundance, composition and microbes of MRGs in four cascade reservoirs along the Jinsha River, southwestern China were investigated via high-throughput metagenomics. The results showed significant enrichment of chromium, cadmium and lead in Ludila and Xiluodu reservoirs with moderate ecological risks based on the criteria of drinking water quality and aquatic life protection. Nevertheless, at watershed scale, these metals played little role in up-regulating MRGs abundance owing to the limited toxic stress on microbes. Accordingly, geographic variation showed stronger impacts on MRGs composition than metals as revealed by the distance-decay relationship (Pearson correlation, r geo  = 0.24-0.57, r metal  = 0.10-0.41) and co-occurrence network (Node degree to MRGs subtype, n geo  = 180, n metal  = 6). River damming, as an artificial isolation of geographic space, significantly affected MRGs composition. The longer operation history, smaller storage capacity and higher regulation frequency caused the higher dissimilarity of MRGs composition between the reservoir's upstream and downstream areas. In conclusion, the metal pollution level is a prerequisite regulating MRGs; while under the lowly-polluted conditions, geographic variation had stronger impacts on MRGs than metal pollution via altered assembly of microbial communities. Background: The factors related to psychological sub-health (PSH) have been widely described, but the research on the mechanism behind the complex relationship between childhood trauma and PSH is limited. This study investigated the current situation and risk factors of PSH among Chinese adolescents. And further, explore whether Internet addiction (IA) plays a potential mediating effect in childhood trauma and PSH., Methods: The study was conducted in October 2020 in Anhui Province, China. The PSH state of 866 adolescents was investigated, including demographic information such as gender, age, and grade. Childhood trauma, IA, and PSH were measured by the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire Short Form (CTQ-SF), Young's Internet Addiction Test (IAT), and the Multidimensional Sub-health Questionnaire of Adolescents (MSQA). The mediating effect is further verified by the structural equation model (SEM)., Results: In this study, 866 adolescents were selected as subjects, and the proportion of male and female is roughly equal. The prevalence of PSH in adolescents was 25.8%, and left-behind children, boarding, or adolescents who have had non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) are more likely to have PSH. Through the mediation test, the direct effect of childhood trauma on PSH was 0.23 (95% CI [4.91,9.00],p <0.001), and the mediating effect of IA on childhood trauma and PSH was 0.07 (95% CI [1.42, 3.32],p <0.001). and the proportion of them is 75.14% and 24.86% respectively., Conclusions: Childhood trauma has direct and indirect effects on PSH, and IA plays a mediating effect in the indirect effect. Infection caused by respiratory viruses can lead to a severe respiratory disease and even death. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent the disease, but it cannot be quickly applied when facing an emerging infectious disease. Here, we demonstrated that immunization with an aluminium-zinc hybrid particulate adjuvant (FH-001) alone, bearing great resemblance in morphology with commonly used aluminium-based adjuvants in vaccines, could quickly induce mice to generate a broadly protective immune response to resist the lethal challenge of influenza B viruses. Furthermore, a multi-omics-based analysis revealed that the alveolar macrophage and type I interferon pathway, rather than adaptive immunity and type II interferon pathway, were essential for the observed prophylactic effect of FH-001. More importantly, a similar protective effect was observed against influenza A virus strain A/Shanghai/02/2013(H7N9), A/California/04/2009(H1N1) and respiratory syncytial virus. Therefore, we introduced here a new and promising strategy that can be quickly applied during the outbreak of emerging respiratory viruses.
