Objectives To elucidate the longitudinal reciprocal association between RA and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and the mediating role of systemic inflammation in the association. Methods A total of 403 045 participants from UK Biobank were enrolled in this study. A cross-lagged panel model was used to investigate the longitudinal reciprocal association between RA and COPD. Cox proportional hazards regression and logistic regression models were also conducted to examine the association between baseline RA and COPD during follow-up, and vice versa. Causal mediation analysis was then performed to explore the mediating roles of 160 systemic inflammatory biomarkers in the bidirectional association. Results At baseline, 4755 (1.2%) and 6989 (1.7%) individuals were diagnosed with RA and COPD, respectively. After adjusting for the covariates, the result of a cross-lagged panel model revealed a bidirectional association between RA and COPD (β = 0.018, P  < 0.001 for the RA→COPD path; β = 0.010, P  < 0.001 for the COPD→RA path). In the non-COPD population, the risk of future COPD was increased in RA patients [Cox model: hazard ratio (HR) 1.65 (95% CI 1.50, 1.83); logistic model: odds ratio (OR) 1.85 (95% CI 1.66, 2.07)]. In the non-RA population, baseline COPD was associated with a higher risk of RA during follow-up [Cox model: HR 1.67 (95% CI 1.44, 1.92); logistic model: OR 1.70 (95% CI 1.47, 1.97)]. Five inflammatory factors mediated the RA→COPD path and CRP mediated the COPD→RA path (false discovery rate < 0.05). Background: Ensuring that the scale and hierarchical structure of health human resources are rational, and that medical services are efficient and fair, is an important task of practical significance. On this basis, examining the impact of health human resources on the level of medical services presents a new and formidable challenge. This study aims to delve into how the scale and hierarchical structure of health human resources in China's four major economic regions affect the fairness and efficiency of medical services, and to identify optimization strategies. Methods: This study utilizes provincial panel data from China's four major economic regions spanning the years 2009 to 2021. Initially, it provides a statistical description of the current state of health human resources and the level of medical services. Subsequently, it employs a fixed-effects model to analyze the impact of the scale and hierarchical structure of health human resources, as well as their interactive effects, on the fairness and efficiency of medical services, and discusses the interactive mechanisms between medical service fairness and medical service efficiency. Furthermore, after conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the level of medical services using the entropy weight method, it explores the regional heterogeneity and temporal dynamics in the influence of the scale and hierarchical structure of health human resources on the level of medical services. Finally, the study examines the scientific validity and rationality of the research findings through various robustness checks, including the substitution of research variables and models. Results: The study found that the scale of health human resources has a promoting effect on the equity of medical services (β ≤ 0.643, p ≤ 0.01), but exhibits an inhibitory effect on the efficiency of medical services (β ≥ -0.079, p ≤ 0.1); the hierarchical structure of health human resources shows a positive impact on both the equity and efficiency of medical services (βequity ≤ 0.160, p ≤ 0.01; βefficiency ≤ 0.341, p ≤ 0.05); at the same time, the results indicate that the interactive effect of the scale and hierarchical structure of health human resources promotes equity in medical services (β = 0.067, p ≤ 0.01), but restricts the efficiency of medical services (β ≥ -0.039, p ≤ 0.01); the mechanism by which health human resources affect the level of medical services in China's western and northeastern regions is more pronounced than in the central and eastern regions; after the implementation of the "Healthy China 2030" Planning Outline, the role of health human resources in the level of medical services has been strengthened; in the robustness tests, the model remains robust after replacing the core explanatory variables, with R2 maintained between 0.869 and 0.972, and the dynamic GMM model test shows a significant second-order lag in the level of medical services (βequity ≤ 0.149, p ≤ 0.01; βefficiency ≤ 0.461, p ≤ 0.01); the channel test results prove that managerial personnel and other technical personnel are key pathways in regulating the impact of medical staff on the level of medical services. Conclusion: This study provides an in-depth analysis of the impact of health human resources on the level of medical services, revealing that both the scale and hierarchical structure of health human resources significantly affect the equity and efficiency of medical services. Furthermore, the influence of health human resources on the level of medical services exhibits regional heterogeneity and temporal characteristics. Robustness tests ensure the scientific validity and robustness of the research conclusions. Summary: Adzuki bean (Vigna angularis) is an important legume crop cultivated in over 30 countries worldwide. We developed a high‐quality chromosome‐level reference genome of adzuki bean cultivar Jingnong6 by combining PacBio Sequel long‐read sequencing with short‐read and Hi‐C technologies. The assembled genome covers 97.8% of the adzuki bean genome with a contig N50 of approximately 16 Mb and a total of 32 738 protein‐coding genes. We also generated a comprehensive genome variation map of adzuki bean by whole‐genome resequencing (WGRS) of 322 diverse adzuki beans accessions including both wild and cultivated. Furthermore, we have conducted comparative genomics and a genome‐wide association study (GWAS) on key agricultural traits to investigate the evolution and domestication. GWAS identified several candidate genes, including VaCycA3;1, VaHB15, VaANR1 and VaBm, that exhibited significant associations with domestication traits. Furthermore, we conducted functional analyses on the roles of VaANR1 and VaBm in regulating seed coat colour. We provided evidence for the highest genetic diversity of wild adzuki (Vigna angularis var. nipponensis) in China with the presence of the most original wild adzuki bean, and the occurrence of domestication process facilitating transition from wild to cultigen. Stratosphere-to-troposphere transport results in the stratospheric intrusion (SI) of O 3 into the free troposphere through the folding of the tropopause. However, the mechanism of SI that influences the atmospheric environment through the cross-layer transport of O 3 from the stratosphere and free troposphere to the atmospheric boundary layer has not been elucidated thoroughly. In this study, an SI event over the North China Plain (NCP; 33–40° N, 114–121° E) during 19–20 May 2019 was chosen to investigate the mechanism of the cross-layer transport of stratospheric O 3 and its impact on the near-surface O 3 based on multi-source reanalysis, observation data, and air quality modeling. The results revealed a mechanism of stratospheric O 3 intrusion into the atmospheric environment induced by an extratropical cyclone system. The SI with downward transport of stratospheric O 3 to the near-surface layer was driven by the extratropical cyclone system, with vertical coupling of the upper westerly trough, the middle of the northeast cold vortex (NECV), and the lower extratropical cyclone, in the troposphere. The deep trough in the westerly jet aroused the tropopause folding, and the lower-stratospheric O 3 penetrated the folded tropopause into the upper and middle troposphere; the westerly trough was cut off to form a typical cold vortex in the upper and middle troposphere. The compensating downdrafts of the NECV further pushed the downward transport of stratospheric O 3 in the free troposphere; the NECV activated an extratropical cyclone in the lower troposphere; and the vertical cyclonic circulation governed the stratospheric O 3 from the free troposphere across the boundary layer top, invading the near-surface atmosphere. In this SI event, the average contribution of stratospheric O 3 to near-surface O 3 was accounted for at 26.77 %. The proposed meteorological mechanism of the vertical transport of stratospheric O 3 into the near-surface atmosphere, driven by an extratropical cyclone system, could improve the understanding of the influence of stratospheric O 3 on the atmospheric environment, with implications for the coordinated control of atmospheric pollution. Two key issues are confronted by the Port Group when entering an inland-river market; namely, port acquisition selection at the strategic level and port service pricing at the operational level. This article identifies the multi-type game relationships among the Port Group and multiple ports and customers in the planning time-horizon, and proposes a three-level programming model based on repeated games for the inland-river port acquisition selection and service pricing collaborative optimization problem. According to the model characteristics, a three-level nested heuristic algorithm is developed by combining a genetic algorithm, game simulation algorithm and equilibrium allocation algorithm. A series of numerical experiments with partial real data in Jining City, Shandong Province, China, is conducted to validate the superiority and efficiency of the proposed model and method. This article also provides some valuable management suggestions for the inland-river Port Group in terms of investment scale, investment expectation, pricing mode and customer relationship. Castanopsis chinensis (Spreng.) Hance is widespread in the subtropical forests of China. Castanopsis qiongbeiensis G.A. Fu and Castanopsis glabrifolia J. Q. Li & Li Chen are limited to the coastal beaches of Wenchang county in the northeast of Hainan Island, and have similar morphological characteristics to C. chinensis. It is supposed that C. qiongbeiensis and C. glabrifolia are closely related to C. chinensis. In the present study, the genetic differentiation, gene flow, and genetic relationship of C. chinensis, C. qiongbeiensis, and C. glabrifolia were investigated by using 15 nuclear microsatellite markers; a total of 308 individuals from 17 populations were sampled in the three species. The allelic variation of nuclear microsatellites revealed moderate but significant genetic differentiation (FCT = 0.076) among C. chinensis, C. qiongbeiensis, and C. glabrifolia, and genetic differentiation between C. chinensis and C. glabrifolia was larger than that between C. chinensis and C. qiongbeiensis. Demographic simulations revealed unidirectional gene flow from C. chinensis to C. glabrifolia and C. qiongbeiensis, which highlight dispersal from mainland to island. The isolation effect of Qiongzhou Strait increased the genetic differentiation of species on both sides of the strait; however, the differentiation was diminished by gene flow that occurred during the historical period when Hainan Island was connected to mainland China. Our results supported the argument that C. glabrifolia should be considered an independent species and argued that C. qiongbeiensis should be regarded as an incipient species and independent conservation unit. As the imported cross-border e-commerce market is getting more competitive nowadays, the free shipping strategy, as a unique service model, plays an important role in the market share competition. Formulating a free shipping strategy to enable companies to obtain more orders and make more profits has become one of the imperative concerns of cross-border e-commerce companies. We will analyze the impact of increasing the free shipping threshold on consumer behavior and corporate profits, combine the free shipping solutions of four large cross-border e-commerce companies in the China, consider more realistic factors (i.e., commodity prices, order distribution, market competition, consumer characteristics), build a consumer purchase decision model and a consumer increase purchase model based on consumer decision theory, and provide decision support for its selection of a suitable free shipping strategy based on the real operating data of the cross-border e-commerce platform. The results indicate that raising the free shipping threshold within a certain range can help increase a company's average order price and gross profit margin as well as reduce corporate costs. However, an excessively high free shipping threshold weakens the stimulus for consumers to increase purchases and decreases the customer conversion rate. The closer the order price is to the free shipping threshold, the more likely it is that consumers will increase their purchases; the further the order price is from the free shipping threshold, the more likely it is that consumers will pay the shipping fee. Spatiotemporal data are common in practice. Such data often have complicated structures that are difficult to describe by parametric statistical models. Thus, it is often challenging to analyze spatiotemporal data effectively since most existing statistical methods and software packages in the literature are based on parametric modeling and cannot handle certain applications properly. This paper introduces the new R package SpTe2M, which was developed for implementing some recent nonparametric methods for modeling and monitoring spatiotemporal data. This package provides analytic tools for modeling spatiotemporal data nonparametrically and for monitoring dynamic spatial processes sequentially over time. It can be used for different applications, including disease surveillance and environmental monitoring. The use of the package is demonstrated using the Florida influenza-like illness data observed during 2012–2014 and the PM2.5 concentration data in China collected during 2014–2016. The study of the adsorption and migration behavior of nuclides in the surrounding environmental media of radioactive waste disposal sites, especially under the influence of colloids, holds immense significance for evaluating the safety of geological repositories. In this context, we investigated the U(VI) adsorption characteristics for natural soil in Beishan, Gansu Province, China. We examined these characteristics both in the presence and absence of composite colloids composed of Fe(OH)3 and humic acid. To comprehensively understand the adsorption process, we conducted static batch experiments for varying pH, solid contents, and initial U(VI) concentrations. We analyzed the adsorption kinetics and employed microscopic characterization technology to analyze soil samples before and after adsorption, enabling detailed elucidation of the adsorption mechanism. Our findings revealed that the presence of composite colloids leads to a significant increase in the number of adsorption sites and facilitates U(VI) adsorption by the soil, with a 1.48 times increase in the adsorption percentage. The adsorption process closely follows the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. We inferred that U(VI) primarily adheres to the soil surface through surface complexation and ion exchange reactions. These results provide a robust scientific foundation for predicting the migration of uranium in underground porous media and for evaluating the safety of high-level radioactive waste repositories. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common complication of pregnancy, which has significant adverse effects on both the mother and fetus. The incidence of GDM is increasing globally, and early diagnosis is critical for timely treatment and reducing the risk of poor pregnancy outcomes. GDM is usually diagnosed and detected after 24 weeks of gestation, while complications due to GDM can occur much earlier. Copy number variations (CNVs) can be a possible biomarker for GDM diagnosis and screening in the early gestation stage. In this study, we proposed a machine-learning method to screen GDM in the early stage of gestation using cell-free DNA (cfDNA) sequencing data from maternal plasma. Five thousand and eighty-five patients from north regions of Mainland China, including 1942 GDM, were recruited. A non-overlapping sliding window method was applied for CNV coverage screening on low-coverage (~0.2×) sequencing data. The CNV coverage was fed to a convolutional neural network with attention architecture for the binary classification. The model achieved a classification accuracy of 88.14%, precision of 84.07%, recall of 93.04%, F1-score of 88.33% and AUC of 96.49%. The model identified 2190 genes associated with GDM, including DEFA1, DEFA3 and DEFB1. The enriched gene ontology (GO) terms and KEGG pathways showed that many identified genes are associated with diabetes-related pathways. Our study demonstrates the feasibility of using cfDNA sequencing data and machine-learning methods for early diagnosis of GDM, which may aid in early intervention and prevention of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Background: The long-term prognosis after surgery of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and extrahepatic bile duct tumor thrombus (Ex-BDTT) remains unknown. We aimed to identify the surgical outcomes of patients with HCC and Ex-BDTT. Methods: A total of 138 patients with Ex-BDTT who underwent hepatectomy with preservation of the extrahepatic bile duct from five large hospitals in China between January 2009 and December 2017 were included. The Cox proportional hazards model was used to analyze overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS). Results: With a median follow-up of 60 months (range, 1–127.8 months), the median OS and RFS of the patients were 28.6 and 8.9 months, respectively. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS rates of HCC patients with Ex-BDTT were 71.7%, 41.2%, and 33.5%, respectively, and the corresponding RFS rates were 43.5%, 21.7%, and 20.0%, respectively. Multivariate analysis identified that major hepatectomy, R0 resection, and major vascular invasion were independent prognostic factors for OS and RFS. In addition, preoperative serum total bilirubin ≥ 4.2 mg/dL was an independent prognostic factor for RFS. Conclusion: Major hepatectomy with preservation of the extrahepatic bile duct can provide favorable long-term survival for HCC patients with Ex-BDTT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Breastfeeding is essential for infants and mothers. Epidural labor analgesia is used frequently to alleviate pain during vaginal delivery. Studies have found that epidural labor analgesia potentially have negative effects on postpartum breastfeeding. However, the efficacy of epidural labor analgesia on early breastfeeding after vaginal delivery is unclear. Therefore, a retrospective analysis was performed to illuminate the efficacy of epidural labor analgesia on postpartum breast feeding. Methods: A total of 392 women who received vaginal delivery in the Second People's Hospital of Foshan from July 2022 to June 2023 were selected for this study, and all women received epidural labor analgesia and were divided into three groups according to the efficacy of labor analgesia. There were three groups: parturients with VAS scores < 3 were divided into Group E (n = 192), parturients with VAS scores 4–6 were divided into Group M (n = 127), and parturients with VAS scores > 7 were divided into Group P (n = 73). The labor process, lactation initiation time, and incidence of delayed onset of lactation were analyzed. The lactation volume and time and LATCH score at 24, 48 and 72 h after vaginal delivery were also analyzed. Results: There was no significant difference in labor process times among the three groups (P > 0.05). The cases of prolactin use in Group M were less than those in Group E and Group P, with a significant difference (all P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in cases of prolactin use between Group E and Group P (P > 0.05). The lactation initiation time in Group M was significantly shorter than those in Group E and Group P (all P>0.05). There was no significant difference in lactation initiation time after vaginal delivery between Group E and Group P (P>0.05). The incidence of delayed onset of lactation in Group M was significantly lower those that in Group E and Group P (all P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of delayed onset of lactation between Group E and Group P (P > 0.05). The lactation volumes at 24, 48 and 72 h after vaginal delivery in Group M were significantly higher than those in Group E and Group P (all P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in lactation volume at 24, 48 and 72 h after vaginal delivery between Group E and Group P (P > 0.05). The lactation times at 24, 48 and 72 h after vaginal delivery in Group M were significantly higher than those in Group E and Group P (all P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in lactation times at 24, 48 and 72 h after vaginal delivery between Group E and Group P (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in LATCH scores at 24, 48 and 72 h after vaginal delivery among the three groups (all P > 0.05). Conclusions: Compared with labor analgesia with excellent and poor analgesia efficacy, labor analgesia with moderate analgesia efficacy has fewer cases of prolactin use, more lactation volume and time, a shorter lactation initiation time, a lower incidence of delayed onset of lactation and no effect on the LATCH score of breastfeeding. The fragile ecology of the Yellow River basin (YRB) is vulnerable to global warming and human activities. As the second largest river in China, the YRB covers the subhumid, semi‐arid, arid and alpine climate zones, with considerably spatial differences in vegetation cover (VC), thus demonstrating substantial variations in response to climate change. In this study, characteristics of VC variations in different climate zones of the YRB during 1982–2019 were analysed, impacts of climate change and human activities on VC variations were identified, and possible VC variations in the future were projected under different climate scenarios. Results show that NDVI in the YRB significantly increased at a rate of 2.3 × 10−3 year−1 from 1982 to 2019, especially in the middle reaches of the YRB. Temperature is the main driver of VC variations in the source region of the YRB (alpine zone), wherein the warming trend contributes to the greening. The internal variability of VC is also influenced by temperature, with a marginal effect of precipitation minus evaporation (P − E). In the middle and lower reaches of the YRB consisting of arid, semi‐arid, and subhumid zones, VC benefited only from the warming trend and had a less relationship with the internal variability of temperature, whereas the internal variability of VC was influenced by P − E and had a weaker relationship with the P − E trend. Contributions of climate change to VC variations in the source region and middle and lower reaches of the YRB are approximately 62%, 42%, and 27%, respectively. Human activities considerably impact the ecological environment but mostly play a positive role. In the future, VC will increase in the YRB, especially under the SSP5‐8.5 scenario, and VC reveals the most prominent changes in the lower reaches. This study suggests that climate change might be favourable to VC in YRB, and emphasizes that human activities should adapt to climate change in an orderly manner. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: Most Chinese local breeds have slow growth speed and high fat deposition, while European commercial chicken strains belong to fast-growing chicken breeds with low fat deposition. In general, the word "You" in China represents excessive fat deposition, and You-chicken is considered to be a typical fatten broiler. Among more than 100 local chickens in China, Baicheng-You and Beijing-You chickens are only two kinds of You-chicken breeds. However, their special genomic characteristics have not been well studied. This study analyzed the genome changes among these chicken breeds and obtained many candidate genes related to important traits of chickens, e.g., fat deposition, immune response, and melanin production. Our data provide valuable insights for understanding the formation of germplasm characteristics of these broiler breeds, which can be used to better protect and utilize the Chinese-You chickens. As the only two You-chicken breeds in China, Baicheng-You (BCY) and Beijing-You (BJY) chickens are famous for their good meat quality. However, so far, the molecular basis of germplasm of the two You-chicken breeds is not yet clear. The genetic relationship among BCY, BJY, and European-origin broilers (BRs) was analyzed using whole genome resequencing data to contribute to this issue. A total of 18,852,372 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were obtained in this study. After quality control, 8,207,242 SNPs were applied to subsequent analysis. The data indicated that BJY chickens possessed distant distance with BRs (genetic differentiation coefficient (FST) = 0.1681) and BCY (FST = 0.1231), respectively, while BCY and BRs had a closer relationship (FST = 0.0946). In addition, by using FST, cross-population extended haplotype homozygosity (XP-EHH), and cross-population composite likelihood ratio (XP-CLR) methods, we found 374 selected genes between BJY and BRs chickens and 279 selected genes between BCY and BJY chickens, respectively, which contained a number of important candidates or genetic variations associated with feather growth and fat deposition of BJY chickens and potential disease resistance of BCY chickens. Our study demonstrates a genome-wide view of genetic diversity and differentiation among BCY, BJY, and BRs. These results may provide useful information on a molecular basis related to the special characteristics of these broiler breeds, thus enabling us to better understand the formation mechanism of Chinese-You chickens. Castanopsis is one of the most common genus of trees in subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forests and tropical monsoon rainforests in China. Castanopsis hainanensis and Castanopsis wenchangensis are endemic to Hainan Island, but they were once confused as the same species due to very similar morphologies. In this study, nuclear microsatellite markers and chloroplast genomes were used to delimit C. hainanensis and C. wenchangensis. The allelic variations of nuclear microsatellites revealed that C. hainanensis and C. wenchangensis were highly genetically differentiated with very limited gene admixture. Both showed higher genetic diversity within populations and lower genetic diversity among populations, and neither had further population genetic structure. Furthermore, C. wenchangensis and C. hainanensis had very different chloroplast genomes. The independent genetic units, very limited gene admixture, different distribution ranges, and distinct habitats all suggest that C. wenchangensis and C. hainanensis are independent species, thus they should be treated as distinct conservation units. Background: Three-North Afforestation Program (TNAP) in China is the largest ecological restoration project on Earth (ongoing from 1978 to 2050), harboring a huge area of newly planted forests, which provides a wealth of goods and ecosystem services that benefit society at levels ranging from region to East Asia. This project-induced carbon (C) sink has been expected to be large, but its size and location remain uncertain. Results: In this study, we investigated the changes in the C stocks of biomass, soil C and the C accumulation benefited from the ecological effects in the project areas from 1978 to 2017 within the Three-North regions (4.069 × 106 km2), and evaluated its project-induced C sequestration. Using a combination of remote sensing images, field observations and national forest inventory data, we estimated a total ecosystem sink of 47.06 Tg C per year (1 Tg = 1012 g) increased by the TNAP implementation. Importantly, we first found that the C sink via the ecological effects of this project could contribute to a high proportion up to 15.94%, indicating a critical role of ecological effects in shaping the distribution of C stocks in the protective forests. This finding suggests that it is necessary to explicitly consider carbon sequestration benefited from the ecological effects when estimating C sink and parameterizing C models of the restoration projects in China and globally. Leaf Area Index (LAI) is one of the most important biophysical parameters of vegetation, and its dynamic changes can be used as a reflective indicator and differentiation basis of vegetation function. In this study, a VCA–MLC (Vertex Component Analysis–Maximum Likelihood Classification) algorithm is proposed from the perspective of multi-temporal satellite LAI image classification to monitor and quantify the spatial and temporal variability of vegetation dynamics in China since 2000. The algorithm extracts the vegetation endmembers from 46 multi-temporal images of MODIS LAI in 2011 without the aid of other a priori knowledge and uses the maximum likelihood classification method to select the categories that satisfy the requirements of the number of missing periods, absolute distance, and relative distance for the rest pixels to be classified, ultimately dividing the vegetation area of China into 10 vegetation zones called China Vegetation Functional Zones (CVFZ). CVFZ outperforms MCD12Q1 and CLCD land cover datasets in the overall differentiation of vegetation functions and can be used synergistically with other land cover datasets. In this study, CVFZ is used to cut the constant vegetation-type pixels of MCD12Q1 during 2001–2022. The results of the LAI mean time series decomposition of each subregion using the STL (Seasonal-Trend Decomposition based on Loess) method show that the rate of vegetation greening ranges from 9.02 × 10−4 m2m−2yr−1 in shrubland subregions to 2.34 × 10−2 m2m−2yr−1 in savanna subregions. In relative terms, the average greening speed of forests is moderate, and savannas tend to have the fastest average greening speed. The greening speed of grasslands and croplands in different zones varies widely. In contrast, the average greening speed of shrublands is the slowest. In addition, CVFZ detected grasslands with one or two phenological cycles, broadleaf croplands with one or two phenological cycles, and shrublands with no apparent or one phenological cycle. Aim: Our study aimed to explore the effectiveness and safety of intravenous t‐PA compared with dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) and aspirin alone for minor stroke with National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score ≤5 and large vessel occlusion (LVO). Methods: Patients with minor stroke harboring LVO within 4.5‐h time window were included from the Third China National Stroke Registry (CNSR‐III) between August 2015 and March 2018 in China. Clinical outcomes including modified Rankin scale (mRS) score, recurrent stroke, and all‐cause mortality at 90 days and 36‐h symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH) were collected. Multivariable logistic regression models and propensity score matching analyses were used to determine the association between treatment groups and clinical outcomes. Results: A total of 1401 minor stroke patients with LVO were included. Overall 251 patients (17.9%) received intravenous t‐PA, 722 patients (51.5%) received DAPT, and 428 patients (30.5%) received aspirin alone. The intravenous t‐PA was associated with greater proportions of mRS 0–1 (aspirin versus t‐PA: adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 0.50; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.32 to 0.80; p = 0.004; DAPT versus t‐PA: aOR, 0.76; 95% CI, 0.49 to 1.19; p = 0.23). Using propensity score matching analyses, the results were similar. There was no difference in 90‐day recurrent stroke among the groups. The rates of all‐cause mortality in intravenous t‐PA, DAPT, and aspirin groups were 0%, 0.55%, 2.34%, respectively. No patient developed sICH within 36 h of intravenous t‐PA. Conclusion: In patients with minor stroke harboring LVO within 4.5‐h time window, intravenous t‐PA was associated with higher odds for the excellent functional outcome, as compared with the aspirin alone. Background: As populations age, cancer burden becomes increasingly conspicuous. This study quantified the cancer burden of the elderly (≥ 60 years) in China, based on the China Cancer Registry Annual Report to provide epidemiological evidence for cancer prevention and control. Methods: Data on cancer cases and deaths among the elderly aged ≥ 60 years were collected from the China Cancer Registry Annual Report, 2008–2019. Potential years of life lost (PYLL) and disability-adjusted life years (DALY) were calculated to analyze fatalities and the non-fatal burden. The time trend was analyzed using the Joinpoint model. Results: From 2005 to 2016, the PYLL rate of cancer in the elderly was stable between 45.34‰ and 47.62‰, but the DALY rate for cancer decreased at an average annual rate of 1.18% (95% CI: 0.84–1.52%). The non-fatal cancer burden in the rural elderly was higher than that of the urban elderly. Lung, gastric, liver, esophageal, and colorectal cancers were the main cancers causing the cancer burden in the elderly, and accounted for 74.3% of DALYs. The DALY rate of lung cancer in females in the 60–64 age group increased (annual percentage change [APC] = 1.14%, 95% CI: 0.10–1.82%). Female breast cancer was one of the top five cancers in the 60–64 age group, with DALY rates that also increased (APC = 2.17%, 95% CI: 1.35–3.01%). With increasing age, the burden of liver cancer decreased, while that of colorectal cancer rose. Conclusions: From 2005 to 2016, the cancer burden in the elderly in China decreased, mainly reflected in the non-fatal burden. Introduction: The aim of this study was to explore associations of aromatic amino acids (AAA) in early pregnancy with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), and whether high AAA and gut microbiota-related metabolites had interactive effects on GDM risk. Methods: We conducted a 1:1 case-control study (n = 486) nested in a prospective cohort of pregnant women from 2010 to 2012. According to the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Group's criteria, 243 women were diagnosed with GDM. Binary conditional logistic regression was performed to examine associations of AAA with GDM risk. Interactions between AAA and gut microbiota-related metabolites for GDM were examined using additive interaction measures. Results: High phenylalanine and tryptophan were associated with increased GDM risk (OR: 1.72, 95% CI: 1.07–2.78 and 1.66, 1.02–2.71). The presence of high trimethylamine (TMA) markedly increased the OR of high phenylalanine alone up to 7.95 (2.79–22.71), while the presence of low glycoursodeoxycholic acid (GUDCA) markedly increased the OR of high tryptophan alone up to 22.88 (5.28–99.26), both with significant additive interactions. Furthermore, high lysophosphatidylcholines (LPC18:0) mediated both interactive effects. Conclusions: High phenylalanine may have an additive interaction with high TMA, while high tryptophan may have an additive interaction with low GUDCA toward increased risk of GDM, both being mediated via LPC18:0. To explore the mixed traffic characteristics of vehicles and aircraft on the airport surface and solve the problem of real-time conflict detection at key intersections. According to the actual taxiing procedures and airport control rules in China, this paper focus on abstracting the mixed motion process of aircraft and vehicles in the maneuvering area, defining the convergent cross-safety operation scenario. To quantify the driver's attention to safety separation and the degree of conservatism in adjusting speed, the vehicle deceleration rate and acceleration rate are defined with α as the exponent. Under the same spacing, the vehicle deceleration rate is directly proportional to α, and α is named the vehicle safety sensitivity. At the same time, the rules of speed change of vehicles and aircraft will be designed, and a convergent operation model of aircraft and vehicles will be proposed. Based on real-time speed and separation dynamic assessment of safety and efficiency under different traffic strategies, the computer simulation results show that vehicle safety sensitivity and deceleration rules determine the sequence of vehicles and aircraft when they are passing through in the short term and can affect the proportion of mixed traffic flow in the long run. The safety probability of vehicles passing the intersection first is negatively correlated with vehicle safety sensitivity, while the safety probability of aircraft passing the intersection first is correlated positively with vehicle safety sensitivity. The efficiency of passing without conflict with mixed traffic has an inverse relationship with vehicle safety sensitivity. When the vehicle safety sensitivity takes the value in the interval [0.4, 0.6], a mixed traffic flow with higher safety and efficiency, better stability, and a balanced ratio of locomotives can be obtained. Since the mid-2010s, China has experienced scores of cross-regional protests by claim-making groups, despite the Xi regime's tightening societal control. In this article, I examine this form of contention and differentiate three types of groups that make claims for rulemaking, rule-enforcement, and political reform. Then, I compare state responses to each type by focusing on three specific groups: veterans, investors, and leftist students. Instead of crushing all attempts at cross-regional mobilization, the regime has at times made concessions. It has been slow to resort to outright repression, especially when protesters have merely demanded policy change or enforcement. Snow on the Tibetan Plateau (TP) is an important signal for the prediction of East Asian climate. In this study, the relationship between the TP spring snowmelt and spring and summer precipitation in Northwest China (NWC) was investigated, along with the possible mechanisms linked to the impacts of snowmelt on precipitation. The results showed that the TP spring snowmelt had significant impacts on spring and summer precipitation in NWC. For example, when there was a large spring snowmelt in the central- eastern TP, the spring and summer precipitation in the Hexi Corridor and southeast NWC was excessive, especially in summer; when there was a large spring snowmelt in the northern TP, the spring and summer precipitation was deficient across the whole of NWC, while a large spring snowmelt in the western TP led to deficient spring and summer precipitation in eastern NWC but excessive precipitation in western NWC. The possible mechanisms for this included the fact that more spring snowmelt over the TP led to higher soil moisture contents, which further resulted in weakened subtropical westerly and enhanced ridge over Xinjiang. By changing the TP thermal forcing, these anomalous atmospheric circulation conditions transported water vapor into NWC, thus creating excessive summer precipitation in that region. This cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis aimed to demonstrate the disparities in positive results and dissemination patterns of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in global immuno-oncology (IO). Phase II–IV RCTs with results reported by article publications registered on ClinicalTrials.gov in 2007–2018 studying immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), adoptive cell transfer, cancer vaccines, and immune modulators were included. Twenty-eight percent of trials were positive (72 of 258), most of which were pharma-sponsored and focused on ICI and multiple IO therapies in lung cancer, melanoma, and multiple cancer types. The recent period of trial start year, upfront registration, large sample size, high strictness score on corticosteroid/infection-related criteria, and survival endpoints were associated with positive results. Trials from Mainland China had a faster publication timeline of positive results but lacked study diversity or full reporting of negative results compared with US and multinational trials. Compared with phase II trials, phase III–IV trials had a higher average proportion of positive results (28.9% vs. 22.2%) and a more stable change over the past decade (23.65% vs. 49.24%). Positive trials yielded more secondary manuscripts (10 vs. 4), a shorter publication process of approximately two years (P < 0.001), and a superiority in the dissemination of journals with an h-index >90 (P < 0.001) compared with negative trials. Disparities in positive result dissemination are widespread in IO RCTs and affected by trial features. We proposed improvements in upfront registration, procedural integrity, and adequate inclusion of rival trials reporting negative results within the earlier two years in future reviews. Immuno-oncology (IO) is a novel treatment modality utilizing the natural ability of body's immune system to fight against cancer. The acknowledged standard method to confer the best medical evidence for showing the efficacy of a new intervention is randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and the publication of trial results via journal articles usually modifies medical decisions. A trial labeled negative means that the pre-specified goal was not met, but it deserves more attention rather than a simple interpretation of scientific failure. Previous studies on oncology trials indicated that negative and positive trials have different patterns of result publication and varied trial features. Although IO-related RCTs obtain a continuously increasing number, the extent and tendencies (positive or negative) of their results have not been assessed. To conduct a timely summary and a comprehensive analysis focusing on the publication details and its relationship with the properties of IO trials, we included phase II–IV IO RCTs with results reported by article publications registered on ClinicalTrials.gov in 2007–2018. We found that disparities in positive results and publication are widespread in IO RCTs and severely affected by IO category, cancer type, sponsorship, trial phase, and geographic origin. Positive trials had a significantly shorter publication timeline of approximately two years, more secondary manuscripts, and a superiority in high-quality publications over negative trials. We propose that investigators should complete registration before trial launch, improve procedural integrity, and allow an adequate inclusion of rival trials reporting negative results within the earlier two years in future IO-related reviews. Arid, semi-arid, and semi-humid regions (drylands) with fragile ecological balance have undergone dramatic climate change in past decades, and how the desertification will change under a continuous warming background still remain uncertain. In this study, the bias-corrected Community Earth System Model outputs from Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 5 were dynamically downscaled using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, based on which the evolution trend of desertification over northern China (NC) in the past (1972–2000) and the near future period (2021–2050) under the RCP8.5 scenario were analyzed using the dune mobility index, and the impacts of climate change on the intensification or reversal of desertification over NC in the near future were explored. The results show that WRF downscaling can reproduce the desertification changes over NC in the past. The regions with a high risk of desertification are mainly located on the border of the desert and gobi. Under a rapidly warming climate in the near future, desertification will likely reverse in most regions of NC, especially for regions north of 40°N over NC. Potential evapotranspiration changes will exacerbate desertification, while precipitation changes will promote rehabilitation, and wind speed changes show obvious local impacts on desertification. The results in this study imply that, with rising temperatures in the future, the extent of desertification will not always continue, desertification will likely reverse at the front and margin of deserts and gobi, and responses of desertification to climate change have significant spatial differences. Cultivar renewal (CR) contributes greatly to rice yield increase in China and even in the world. However, few studies were focused on the impact and mechanism of CR on field methane (CH4) emissions. A 2-year field experiment was conducted using 14 typical japonica rice cultivars released in the Yangtze River Basin of China during the last 70 years. The grain yield, root morphophysiological traits and their relationships with CH4 emissions were examined. The results showed that the grain yields of cultivars in the 1960–2010s increased by 18.8–93.9% while the CH4 emissions decreased by 9.5–41.2% compared with the 1950's cultivars. The daily and cumulative CH4 emissions during the panicle differentiation stage (PD) were reduced significantly, which contributed greatly to the CH4 mitigation of the whole growing season. The CR notably increased root biomass, root/shoot ratio, root oxidation activity, and the total organic carbon in root exudates (ETOC), and decreased the ratios of ETOC/yield, ETOC/root biomass and ETOC/shoot biomass. Nitrogen fertilizer applied during panicle differentiation could improve the root physiology and decrease the ETOC/yield and ETOC/root, therefore reducing CH4 emissions. Our findings illustrated that CR reduced CH4 emissions by improving root traits and by optimizing the photosynthate allocation to biomass and grain yields. In the context of climate change, extreme precipitation in semi-arid region happens frequently. How well models simulate extreme precipitation in semi-arid region remains unclear. Based on a WRF v4.3 simulation of a rainstorm event that occurred in Qingyang, China on 21 July 2019, applying Kain–Fritsch (KF), Grell–Devenyi (GD) and Bullock–Wang (BW) schemes, the impacts of different cumulus parameterizations on extreme precipitation simulations in semi-arid region were analyzed, and the possible causes of precipitation biases were explored. The results showed that the WRF with the three schemes essentially reproduced the location and structure of precipitation, but the intensity of precipitation in the central region was underestimated. Based on the structure-amplitude-location (SAL) method, the KF scheme exhibited better performance in precipitation simulation than the other two schemes, while there were significant intensity and location deviations of rain band occurrence between simulations using the GD, BW schemes and observations. Convection simulation using the GD and BW schemes was less effective than that using the KF scheme, compared to the observations. As a result, the GD and BW schemes simulated a larger geopotential height at 500 hPa over Qingyang and weaker upper-level low troughs than simulations using the KF scheme. This led to simulation of less water vapor transport into the front of the trough, resulting in a deficit in simulated precipitation. Pore and its structural characteristics are key parameters affecting shale gas reservoir development. Accurate quantitative characterization of shale pore and its structural characteristics is of great significance for evaluating shale reservoir state. In this study, 15 shallow marine shale samples were collected in Well Y108. X-ray diffraction results indicate that brittle minerals are the most common components in shale. In this paper, various pore types are classified and characterized by scanning electron microscope images. The total porosity of shale measured by the mercury intrusion method is between 3.2% and 6.5%. In addition, a petrophysical model is established to calculate matrix porosity and fracture. The results of this model are consistent with the measured porosity. Three key parameters (VTOC > VBri > VClay) were obtained. The low-pressure N2/CO2 adsorption experiment allows for the analysis of pore volume, specific surface area, and pore size. Finally, it was determined that the primary pore types and primary shale gas reservoir space in shallow marine shale are mesopores and micropores. The impact of shale constituents on pores and their structural properties is also covered in this work. The results indicate that the enrichment of total organic carbon and brittle minerals is conducive to the development of shallow marine shale pore-fracture system. Litter decomposition and nutrient release are key processes for soil C and nutrient cycling. However, the relative importance of the effects of litter quality, fauna and decomposition site on litter decomposition remains poorly understood. Moreover, the macronutrient and micronutrient (C, N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Mn, Cu and Zn) release in the decomposition process are even less well‐known.In this study, we performed 5040 litterbag samplings of monospecific (Larix gmelinii, Acer mono, Quercus mongolica and Juglans mandshurica) and mixed (Larix with each broad‐leaved litter) litter treatments using litterbags with three mesh sizes (for different‐sized fauna) in four paired stands of natural secondary forests compared with adjacent Larix plantations in a temperate forest ecosystem in China. Litter decomposition rate and macronutrient and micronutrient release during decomposition were assessed.We found that variation in litter quality had a considerably greater effect on litter decomposition than fauna and decomposition site. The decomposition constant was significantly related to the initial litter Mg concentration and lignin/P ratio, suggesting the importance of the Mg content and lignin/P ratio in controlling litter decomposition in temperate tree species. We also showed that macrofauna significantly increased monospecific but not mixed litter decomposition. In addition, the decomposition site conditions further influenced monospecific litter decomposition. Furthermore, the litter quality significantly influences N and Mn release in both monospecific and mixed litters. Compared with Larix litter, the average of N and Mn increased 33.9% and 53.8% in three broad‐leaved litters, and 21.4% and 38.0% in three mixed litters respectively.Synthesis. Litter quality is a relatively more important factor than fauna and decomposition site for the decomposition of both monospecific and mixed litters when studied at a local scale in temperate forests. Moreover, litter decomposition enhanced in plantation sites with poor soil nutrient status, which has implications for C and nutrient cycling and long‐term below‐ground forest ecosystem functions. Fusarium crown rot and wheat sharp eyespot are major soil-borne diseases of wheat, causing serious losses to wheat yield in China. We applied high-throughput sequencing combined with qPCR to determine the effect of winter wheat seed dressing, with either Trichoderma atroviride HB20111 spore suspension or a chemical fungicide consisting of 6% tebuconazole, on the fungal community composition and absolute content of pathogens Fusarium pseudograminearum and Rhizoctonia cerealis in the rhizosphere at 180 days after planting. The results showed that the Trichoderma and chemical fungicide significantly reduced the amount of F. pseudograminearum in the rhizosphere soil (p < 0.05), and also changed the composition and structure of the fungal community. In addition, field disease investigation and yield measurement showed that T. atroviride HB20111 treatment reduced the whiteheads with an average control effect of 60.1%, 14.9% higher than the chemical treatment; T. atroviride HB20111 increased yield by 7.7%, which was slightly more than the chemical treatment. Therefore, T. atroviride HB20111 was found to have the potential to replace chemical fungicides to control an extended range of soil-borne diseases of wheat and to improve wheat yield. The pilot is the main person in charge of taxiing safety while moving on the airport surface. The visual separation and speed adjustment are directly related to safety and efficiency of airport surface operation. According to the actual taxiing procedures and airport control rules in China, this paper proposes a novel microscopic simulation model based on the pilots' visual separation. This model is also built by refining the aircraft taxiing procedures at intersections. The observation range, the separation judgment, pilots' visual distance, rate of proximity and the intention for speed governing are discussed as parameters in the model. The rules for aircraft separation judgment, pilots' autonomous speed governing, and position updates are also set up and discussed. The proposed simulation can accurately simulate the acceleration and deceleration intentions under different motion trends while reproducing the motion process including the following acceleration, following deceleration and delayed deceleration caused by separation changes. The results demonstrate that the number of conflicts can be reduced to 50% based on visual separation adjustment of 50 s when the convergence angle is 30°. The pilot's visual distance is inversely proportional to the fluctuation range of the speed of the rear aircraft, the proximity rate of the front and rear aircraft and the probability of conflict. The simulation results of this model conform to the actual taxiing routes and control rules, which provides technical support for improving the safety level of airport surface operation and presents certain reference value and practicability. By analyzing environmental and meteorological monitoring data over recent years of 2015–2022, the Twain-Hu Basin (THB) in central China was identified as a regional O 3 pollution center over China with the highest increasing trend at 1.10 %⸱yr−1 in interannual variations of O 3 concentrations with deteriorating O 3 pollution over recent years. We explored the spatiotemporal variations in O 3 pollution in the THB with ozone suppression (OS) under high air temperature over metropolitan, small urban, and mountainous areas. The bipolarized interannual trends in interannual O 3 variations in urban and mountainous areas over central China were characterized with the increasing and decreasing 90th percentiles of the daily maximum 8-h (MDA8-90) O 3 concentrations respectively in polluted urban areas and clean mountainous areas over recent eight years. The changes of the near-surface O 3 concentrations with air temperature exhibited the inflection points of OS from increasing to decreasing O 3 at air temperature of 30.5 °C in mountainous areas, 32.5 °C in small urban areas, and 34.5 °C in metropolitan areas, and the intensity of OS was estimated in the ranking with mountainous areas (−2.30 μg⸱m−3⸱°C−1) > small urban areas (−1.96 μg⸱m−3⸱°C−1) > metropolitan areas (−1.54 μg⸱m−3⸱°C−1), indicating that the OS was more significant over the lower-O 3 mountainous areas. This study has implications for understanding O 3 pollution variations with the meteorological drivers. The spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in the atmospheric environment has seriously threatened human health. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are an important source of aerosol ARGs. A large WWTP, including sewage treatment process (SWP) and sludge treatment process (SDP), was selected in North China for sampling in this study. The content of ARGs, mobile genetic elements (MGEs), and bacterial genera in sewage/sludge and aerosols from different process stages was detected. The possible correlation between ARGs/ MGEs and bacteria was analyzed. The risk of antibiotic-resistant bacteria was evaluated and the diffusion of ARGs/MGEs was simulated. The results showed that the concentration of ARGs/MGEs varied as the process progressed, and which in the aeration tank was relatively high. The ARGs/MGEs content in SWP aerosol (8.35–163.27 copies/m3) was higher than that in SDP (5.52–16.36 copies/m3). The main ARGs/MGEs detected in SWP aerosol were tnpA-05, tnpA-04, and ermF, while the main ARGs/MGEs detected in SDP aerosol were sul1, ermF, and blaPAO. ARGs were positively correlated with most bacteria and Escherichia coli with ARGs carries higher cytotoxicity. ARGs/MGEs mainly diffused towards the southeast, which may cause harm to urban residents with the diffusion of aerosols. This study provides clues and theoretical basis for preventing the hazards of ARGs from WWTP sources. Background: To determine the association of the retinal capillary plexus (RCP) and ganglion cell complex (GCC) with cognitive impairment using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Methods: A cross-sectional, community-based study utilizing data from the participants enrolled between August 2019 and January 2020 in the Jidong Eye Cohort Study. We assessed the vessel density in RCP and GCC thickness using OCTA, and cognitive testing using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Cognitive impairment in this study was defined as MoCA score < 24. We used multivariable analysis to evaluate the association of RCP and GCC with cognitive impairment after adjusting for confounders. Results: This study analyzed 1555 participants. The mean age of participants was 52.3 (8.4) years, and 861 (55.4%) were women. Cognitive impairment was observed in 268 (17.2%) participants. The adjusted odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for parafovea vessel density in the deep RCP with cognitive impairment was 1.20 (1.03–1.39). For vessel area and length density surrounding foveal avascular zone with cognitive impairment, the ORs with 95% CIs were 1.23 (1.07–1.41) and 1.30 (1.13–1.49), respectively. For thickness in the superior GCC with cognitive impairment, the OR with 95% CI was 1.16 (1.01–1.32). Conclusion: Lower vessel density in the RCP and thinner GCC were associated with cognitive impairment. Our results suggest that alterations in the RCP and GCC could provide further evidence when assessing the cognitive function and may even be potentially useful biomarkers in the detection of cognitive impairment. Fagaceae species are increasingly used as models to elucidate the process and mechanism of adaptation and speciation by integrating ecology, evolution and genomics. The genus Castanopsis belongs to the family Fagaceae and is mainly distributed across subtropical and tropical Asia. In the present study, we reported the first chromosome‐scale genome assembly of Castanopsis tibetana, a common species of evergreen broadleaved forests in subtropical China. The combination of Nanopore sequencing and Hi‐C technologies enabled a high‐quality genome assembly. The final assembled genome size of C. tibetana was 878.6 Mb (97.6% of the estimated genome size), consisting of 477 contigs with an N50 length of 3.3 Mb. The benchmarking universal single‐copy orthologue (BUSCO) assessment indicated a completeness of 93.0%. Hi‐C scaffolding generated 12 pseudochromosomes, representing 98.7% of the assembled genome. Subsequently, 40,937 protein‐coding genes were predicted and 90.04% of them were functionally annotated. More than 476.9 Mb of repetitive sequences (54.3% of the genome) were identified, and the percentage of the genome covered by TE elements was 39.98%. Comparative genomics analysis revealed that C. tibetana was most closely related to Castanea mollissima and diverged at 18.48 Ma, and that C. tibetana has undergone considerable gene family expansion and contraction. Evidence of positive selection was detected in 53 genes, which showed different arrangement pattern compared to Quercus robur. The chromosome‐scale genome assembly of C. tibetana will expand Fagaceae genome resources across the family and provide a powerful comparative framework to study the adaptation and evolution of Fagaceae trees. Background: The impact of radiotherapy interruption due to the Spring Festival holidays in China on the survival of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is unclear.Methods: Nontrial patients with locoregionally advanced NPC receiving radiotherapy plus induction chemotherapy (IC) and/or concurrent chemotherapy (CC) were included (N = 5035) and divided into two groups based on the Spring Festival-induced radiotherapy interruption. Kaplan-Meier curves for overall survival (OS) and failure-free survival (FFS) were compared between rival groups. Impact of the timing of radiotherapy interruption (during or outside the Spring Festival) on survival was investigated in a propensity score-matched dataset. We adopted ordination correspondence analysis to determine the cut-off of radiotherapy prolongation for prognostic prediction, and accordingly performed subgroup analysis based on delayed days and chemotherapy details. Individual patient data of three phase III NPC trials (NCT00677118, NCT01245959, NCT01872962) were used for validation (N = 1465).Results: Radiotherapy interruption was most frequently observed between December to January of the following year. Significantly lower OS and FFS were associated with the Spring Festival-induced interruption of radiotherapy (P = 0.009 and 0.033, respectively), but not that interruption of IC. In two matched comparison groups, the timing of radiotherapy interruption during the Spring Festival was more likely to lead to a decrease in FFS than outside the Spring Festival (P = 0.046), which was not observed in the validation using clinical trial data or in the subgroup analysis based on the 5-day delayed time. The absence of CC and the accumulated dose of cisplatin < 200 mg were related to the negative influences of the Spring Festival-induced radiotherapy interruption on FFS (P = 0.002) and OS (P = 0.010), respectively.Conclusions: The poor survival of patients with NPC is associated with the Spring Festival-induced interruption of radiotherapy. Purpose. To quantify the long-term evaluation of optic chiasma (OC) and/or optic nerve(s) (ONs) and to develop predictive models for radiation-induced optic neuropathy (RION) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma after intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). Methods and Materials. A total of 3,662 patients' OC/ONs with full visual acuity and dosimetry data between 2010 and 2015 were identified. Critical dosimetry predictors of RION were chosen by machine learning and penalized regression for survival. A nomogram containing dosimetry and clinical variables was generated for predicting RION-free survival. Results. The median follow-up was 71.79 (2.63–120.9) months. Sixty-six eyes in 51 patients (1.39%) developed RION. Two patients were visual field deficient, and 49 patients had visual acuity of less than 0.1 (20/200). The median latency time was 36 (3–90) months. The 3-, 5-, and 8-year cumulative incidence of RION was 0.78%, 1.19%, and 1.97%, respectively. Dmax was the most critical dosimetry variable for RION (AUC: 0.9434, the optimal cutoff: 64.48 Gy). Patients with a Dmax ≥64.48 Gy had a significantly higher risk of RION (HR = 102.25; 95%CI, 24.86–420.59; P < 0.001). Age (>44 years) (HR = 2.234, 95% CI = 1.233–4.051, p = 0.008), advanced T stage (T3 vs. T1-2: HR = 7.516, 95% CI = 1.725–32.767, p = 0.007 ; T4 vs. T1-2: HR = 37.189, 95% CI = 8.796–157.266, P < 0.001), and tumor infiltration/compression of the OC/ONs (HR = 4.572, 95% CI = 1.316–15.874, p = 0.017) were significant clinical risk factors of RION. A nomogram comprising age, T stage, tumor infiltration/compression of the OC/ON, and Dmax significantly outperformed the model, with only Dmax predicting RION (C-index: 0.916 vs. 0.880, P < 0.001 in the training set; 0.899 vs. 0.874, P = 0.038 in the test set). The nomogram-defined high-risk group had a worse 8-year RION-free survival. Conclusions. In the IMRT era, Dmax <60 Gy is safe and represents an acceptable dose constraint for most NPC patients receiving IMRT. A reasonable trade-off for selected patients with unsatisfactory tumor coverage due to proximity to the optic apparatus would be Dmax <65 Gy. Caution should be exercised when treating elderly and advanced T-stage patients or those with tumor infiltration/compression of the OC/ON. Our nomogram shows strong efficacy in predicting RION. The snow melting and frozen soil thawing processes in spring could lead to the significant anomaly in soil moisture (SM) over the Tibetan Plateau (TP), which has a strong influence on the interaction between land and atmosphere, and influencing the subsequent summer precipitation in China. However, there is distinct bias in SM in model simulation, influencing the surface energy and mass balance. In this study, the impacts of assimilating spring SM over the TP with indirect soil nudging (ISN) scheme on the simulation of summer precipitation in China are investigated. The results show that using the ISN method can reduce the spring SM bias over the TP, which further decreases the root mean square error (RMSE) of summer precipitation simulation, especially in South China, North China, northeast China, and the middle and lower Yangtze River. Compared to the experiment without assimilation, the assimilation of spring SM evidently modulates the distribution and intensity of surface sensible and latent heating over the TP, which leads to the change of Rossby wave train's (RWT) shape and propagation direction over the TP and the downstream region, affecting the general circulation over East Asia. Specifically, the upward movement over the TP gets stronger and leads to the position of 200 hPa westerly jet which shifts to west and is closer to ERA5 reanalysis; meanwhile the location of the 500 hPa western Pacific subtropical high (WPSH) and the distribution of water vapor in Eastern China are also corrected. As a result, the precipitation simulation biases are alleviated. This study suggests that decreasing SM bias caused by the snow melting and frozen soil thawing can be an effective approach to improve the seasonal prediction skills of precipitation in China. Cold is a common problem that limits the distribution of Camellia. Camellia japonica (Naidong) is the northernmost species of camellia in China, which is a Tertiary remnant species that can adapt to large changes in temperature. An analysis of the transcriptional response of C. japonica (Naidong) to cold is very important for the planting and distribution of camellia. In this study, the rate of H₂O₂ levels, electrolyte leakage, chlorophyll and sugar content had a higher degree of cold response during 12–72 h period, than other periods (0–12h, 72h–120h) in C. japonica (Naidong) response to cold treatment. We constructed the first full-length C. japonica (Naidong) transcriptome and identified 4544 significantly differentially expressed genes (DEGs). A weighted gene coexpression network analysis showed that carbon metabolism, lipid metabolism, and transcription factors played important roles in the resistance of C. japonica (Naidong) to cold stress, and three hub transcription factor regulatory networks were constructed. In addition, overexpressing CjRAV1 led to cold sensitivity in Arabidopsis thaliana , thus CjRAV1 likely plays a negative regulatory role during cold stress in Camellia japonica. Coronavirus disease 2019 is an emerging public health problem threatening not only the life but also the normal psychology of people. University students' mental health is the focus in the field of higher education. The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has brought into attention the mental health problems of this vulnerable group. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 on the mental health of university students in Sichuan Province, China. We conducted a cross‐sectional study from April 2020 to May 2020. The participants responded to an online questionnaire that included informed consent, basic information, 20‐item Self Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ‐20), and Self‐Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). We received 521 effective responses. The results included the following: 19.0% of respondents reported distress, and 31.5%, 8.1%, and 5.8% of them reported mild, moderate, and severe anxiety, respectively; respondents aged ≤ 22 years, medical students, and those who were in general health reported more distress than others; and medical students and those who paid more attention to pandemic information reported more anxiety than others. Findings suggest that the mental health of university students should be monitored during pandemic, especially for younger students, medical students, students in general health status, and those who paid too much attention to the news of the pandemic. Accurately simulating the dynamic evolution of the behaviors of different decision-makers (DMs) is essential for identifying solutions to transboundary water conflicts. The purpose of this study is to present a dynamic evolutionary analysis model for simulating the behavior of different water users and solving the problem of transboundary water conflicts. To accomplish this goal, a revenue function, which can objectively evaluate the relative preferences of different DMs in water conflicts, was constructed to improve the graph model for conflict resolution (GMCR) model. A demonstration area in the Yangtze River Delta on ecologically friendly development (DAYRD) in China is applied to demonstrate the applicability of the improved method. The results show that the improved GMCR model based on the revenue function can accurately simulate the dynamic evolution of transboundary water conflicts and avoid the influence of subjective factors of researchers or experts in the traditional method. Additionally, the results indicated that water conflicts in the DAYRD can be transformed from the status quo (conflict) to the target state (cooperation) by effectively controlling the intensity of third-party intervention. These findings provide useful insights for the resolution of transboundary water conflicts and enhance our understanding of the role of third parties in transforming conflict into cooperation. The epidemiological evidences for the association between cooking fuel exposure and respiratory health were inconsistent, and repeated-measures prospective evaluation of cooking fuel exposure was still lacking. We assessed the longitudinal association of chronic lung disease (CLD) and lung function with cooking fuel types among Chinese adults aged ≥ 40 years. In this prospective, nationwide representative cohort of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study from 2011 to 2018, 9004 participants from 28 provinces in China were included. CLD was identified based on self-reported physician diagnosis in 2018. Lung function was assessed by peak expiratory flow (PEF) in 2011, 2013 and 2015. Multivariable logistic and linear mixed-effects repeated-measures models were conducted to measure the associations of CLD and PEF with cooking fuel types. Three-level mixed-effects model was performed as sensitivity analysis. Among the participants, 3508 and 3548 participants used persistent solid and clean cooking fuels throughout the survey, and 1948 participants who used solid cooking fuels at baseline switched to clean cooking fuels. Use of persistent clean cooking fuels (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 0.73, 95 % confidence interval [CI]: 0.61, 0.88) and switch of solid fuels to clean fuels (aOR = 0.81, 95 % CI: 0.67, 0.98) were associated with lower risk of CLD. The use of clean cooking fuels throughout the survey and switch of solid fuels to clean fuels in 2013 were also significantly associated with higher PEF level. Similar results were observed in stratified analyses and different statistical models. The evidence from CHARLS cohort suggested that reducing solid cooking fuel exposure was associated with lower risk of CLD and better lung function. Given the recent evidence, improving household air quality will reduce the burden of chronic lung diseases. Background. The emergence of the NDM-1-positive Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) strains has led to limited therapeutic options for clinical treatment. Understanding the clinical characteristics, antimicrobial resistance, biofilm assay, and the virulence genes of these isolated strains is of great significance. Methods. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to screen isolated NDM-1-positive K. pneumoniae. The clinical information of the patients was collected from medical records. The NDM-1-positive K. pneumoniae isolates were subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility testing and multilocus sequence typing. Sixty strains of NDM-1-negative K. pneumoniae isolated during the same period were collected as the control group for the virulence analysis. The virulence phenotype of the strains was preliminarily evaluated by the string test and crystal violet semiquantitative biofilm formation experiment. PCR combined with gene sequencing was used to detect common high toxicity capsule genes (K1, K2, K5, K20, K54, and K57) and common virulence-related genes (entB, ybtS, ureA, ycf, WabG, FimH, uge, iutA, KfuB, aerobactin, rmpA, magA, Alls, IrnN, and VatD). Results. In the 30 nonduplicated NDM-1-positive K. pneumoniae isolates, 43.33% (13/30) of the patients had a history of a stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). All of the isolates exhibited multidrug resistance. Nine STs were identified, 77% (10/13) strains from the NICU were ST11. The NDM-1-positive K. pneumoniae string tests were all negative, and 35% (21/60) NDM-1-negative K. pneumoniae were positive. The ratios of NDM-1-positive K. pneumoniae isolates biofilm formation ability according to strong, medium, and weak classification were 67%, 23%, and 10%, respectively. NDM-1-negative K. pneumoniae isolates were 60%, 25%, and 15%, respectively. There was no statistical difference between the two groups (t = 0.61, P = 0.2723). The virulence-associated genes with more than 80% of detection rates among the 30 NDM-1-positive K. pneumoniae isolates included entB (100%, 30/30), ybtS (93.33%, 28/30), ureA (90%, 27/30), ycf (83.33%, 25/30), and wabG (90%, 27/30). KfuB and iutA were detected at prevalence of 3.33% and 13.33%. vatD, allS, iroN, aerobactin, and rmpA were not detected. In the NDM-1-negative K. pneumoniae, all other 14 virulence genes except VatD were detected. After statistical analysis, FimH, WabG, ycf, iutA, kfuB, aerobactin, rmpA, and Alls virulence genes, P < 0.005 , there was a statistical difference. Conclusion. NDM-1-positive K. pneumoniae exhibited multidrug resistance, MLST typing is mainly ST11, there is small clonal dissemination in the NICU in the hospital, and the NDM-1-positive K. pneumoniae virulence genes carrier rate is lower than the NDM-1-negative K. pneumoniae virulence genes carrier rate. SO2 and NO2 observations from the Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS) sensor are used for the first time in conjunction with the GEOS-Chem adjoint model to optimize both SO2 and NOx emission estimates over China for October 2013. Separate and joint (simultaneous) optimizations of SO2 and NO2 emissions are both conducted and compared. Posterior emissions, compared to the prior, yield improvements in simulating columnar SO2 and NO2 , in comparison to measurements from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) and OMPS. The posterior SO2 and NOx emissions from separate inversions are 748 Gg S and 672 Gg N, which are 36 % and 6 % smaller than prior MIX emissions (valid for 2010), respectively. In spite of the large reduction of SO2 emissions over the North China Plain, the simulated sulfate–nitrate–ammonium aerosol optical depth (AOD) only decrease slightly, which can be attributed to (a) nitrate rather than sulfate as the dominant contributor to AOD and (b) replacement of ammonium sulfate with ammonium nitrate as SO2 emissions are reduced. For joint inversions, both data quality control and the weight given to SO2 relative to NO2 observations can affect the spatial distributions of the posterior emissions. When the latter is properly balanced, the posterior emissions from assimilating OMPS SO2 and NO2 jointly yield a difference of -3 % to 15 % with respect to the separate assimilations for total anthropogenic SO2 emissions and ± 2 % for total anthropogenic NOx emissions; but the differences can be up to 100 % for SO2 and 40 % for NO2 in some grid cells. Improvements on SO2 and NO2 simulations from the joint inversions are overall consistent with those from separate inversions. Moreover, the joint assimilations save ∼ 50 % of the computational time compared to assimilating SO2 and NO2 separately in a sequential manner of computation. The sensitivity analysis shows that a perturbation of NH3 to 50 % (20 %) of the prior emission inventory can (a) have a negligible impact on the separate SO2 inversion but can lead to a decrease in posterior SO2 emissions over China by -2.4 % (-7.0 %) in total and up to -9.0 % (-27.7 %) in some grid cells in the joint inversion with NO2 and (b) yield posterior NOx emission decreases over China by -0.7 % (-2.8 %) for the separate NO2 inversion and by -2.7 % (-5.3 %) in total and up to -15.2 % (-29.4 %) in some grid cells for the joint inversion. The large reduction of SO2 between 2010 and 2013, however, only leads to ∼ 10 % decrease in AOD regionally; reducing surface aerosol concentration requires the reduction of emissions of NH3 as well. Xuebijing injection is a Chinese herb compound to treat sepsis in China, but it contains many different kinds of components, and each component may have different effects in treating sepsis. The present study was performed to investigate the effect of three ingredients of Xuebijing, safflor yellow A (SYA), hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA), and anhydrosafflor yellow B (AHSYB), in lipopolysaccharide- (LPS-) induced acute lung injury (ALI). LPS (10 mg/kg) was injected intratracheally to induce acute lung injury in mice, which were then treated with SYA, HSYA, and AHSYB. The blood, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), and lung tissues were collected to detect degree of lung injury, level of inflammation, and neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). In vitro experiments were performed using HL-60 cells stimulated with phorbol myristate acetate (PMA). Lung injury induced by LPS was alleviated by SYA, HSYA, and AHSYB as demonstrated by the histopathologic test. The three components inhibit LPS-induced elevation of the levels of inflammatory factors and wet-to-dry weight ratio as well as the amount of protein and cells in the BALF. They also induced a remarkably less overlay of myeloperoxidase (MPO) and histone in the immunofluorescence assay and reduced level of MPO-DNA complex in plasma. The in vitro assay showed a similar trend that the three components inhibited PMA-induced NET release in neutrophil-like HL-60 cells. Western blot demonstrated that phosphorylation of c-rapidly accelerated fibrosarcoma (c-Raf), mitogen-activated protein kinase ERK kinase (MEK), and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) in the lungs of LPS-challenged mice, and PMA-treated HL-60 cells were all significantly reduced by SYA, HSYA, and AHSYB. Therefore, our data demonstrated that three components of XBJ, including SYA, HSYA, and AHSYB, showed a protective effect against LPS-induced lung injury and NET release. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

1. Schisandra chinensis, also called wuweizi in Chinese, is the fruit of Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.) Baill., and has been officially utilized as an astringent tonic for more than two thousand years in China. This study aims to evaluate the inhibition of carboxylesterases (CESs) by the major ingredients isolated from Schisandra chinensis, including Anwuligan, Schisandrol B, Schisanhenol, deoxyschizandrin, and Schisandrin B. 2. In vitro human liver microsomes (HLMs)-catalyzed hydrolysis of 2-(2-Benzoyl-3-methoxyphenyl) benzothiazole (BMBT) and fluorescein diacetate (FD) was employed as the probe reaction for CES1 and CES2, respectively. Initial screening, inhibition kinetics determination (inhibition type and parameters (Ki)), and in silico docking method were carried out. 3. Schisandrin B showed strong inhibition on the activity of CES1, and the activity of CES2 was strongly inhibited by Anwuligan and Schisandrin B. Schisandrin B exhibited noncompetitive inhibition towards CES1 and CES2. Anwuligan showed competitive inhibition towards CES2. The inhibition kinetic parameters (Ki) were calculated to be 29.8, 0.6, and 8.1 uM for the inhibition of Schisandrin B on CES1, Anwuligan on CES2, and Schisandrin B on CES2. In silico docking showed that hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions contributed to the inhibition of Schisandrin B on CES1, Anwuligan on CES2, and Schisandrin B on CES2.
