Objective: Pulmonary enteric adenocarcinoma (PEAC) is a rare subtype of pulmonary adenocarcinoma that lacks effective treatment. The purpose of this research was to investigate the clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of PEAC, as well as the impact of relevant factors on survival, thus providing a reference for the clinical management of patients with this disease. Methods: For this study, we gathered clinical data from 26 patients with PEAC in the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Zhengzhou University from June 2014 to June 2021. We used SEER*Stat software V8.3.5 to download the PEAC patients from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. In total, 20 patients were identified. Clinical data, including general information, imaging findings, and treatment protocols, were obtained, together with a follow-up of disease regression. The relevant clinical data were then analyzed. Results: It included 12 males and 14 females out of 26 patients from China, whose mean age was (62.73 ± 11.89) years; 20 were in the lower lung, 11 were stage I-II, and 15 were stage III-IV. Five had EGFR mutations, and four had KRAS mutations. In terms of treatment, patients with stage I-II were primarily treated by surgery, and patients with stage III-IV were treated mostly by chemotherapy. We extended the follow-up date to January 2022. On completion of the follow-up visit, 11 patients died, and the remaining 15 patients survived. The overall survival (OS) of 26 patients was 2.0-76.0 months, while the mean was 53.1 months, and the median OS (mOS) was 38.0 months (95% CI:1.727-74.273). In the case of progression-free survival (PFS) times, it was 2.0-76.0 months, with a mean PFS of 31.0 months and a median PFS (mPFS) of 8.0 months (95% CI:4.333-11.667). The PFS of the 15 patients in stage III-IV was 2.0-17 months, while the mean PFS was 6.5 months and the mPFS was 6.0 months (95% CI:4.512-7.488). Out of the 20 patients identified in the SEER database, the average age was 69.9 years, with 14 males and 6 females. Of these patients, 8 were diagnosed with stage I-II, while the remaining 11 were diagnosed with stage III-IV. 10 underwent surgery, 4 received radiation therapy, and 9 received chemotherapy. The mean OS of the 20 patients was 67.5 months, mOS was 28.0 months (95% CI: 9.664-46.336). For patients diagnosed with stage III-IV, the mean OS was 14.8 months and mOS was 20 months (95% CI: 4.713-35.287). Conclusion: PEAC is rare, and the prognosis is determined mainly by the stage; patients who undergo surgery in stage I-II have a better prognosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Aconite is a famous toxic medicinal plant in the world. But in China, the aconite cultivar, Qingchuan cultivar, which has been stably used for 2000 years, are being rapidly replaced by the Liangshan cultivar, a new cultivar with better agronomic traits. However, the risk of the replacement is still unknown. Materials and Methods: We combine field research and cultivation experiments to clarify differences in provenance and differences in agronomic traits. We used high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to analyze the content of key ingredients in commercially available medicines and semi-finished drugs. We then performed a transcriptome analysis of the two resources to study the key differential pathways of the two species and conducted a systematic discussion. Statistical Analysis Used: Statistical differences were assessed by analysis of variance or least significant difference. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The survey and cultivation experiments showed that the overwhelming superiority of agronomic traits had already made Liangshan cultivar occupy the vast majority of areas. HPLC showed that the content of diester alkaloids in the Liangshan cultivar was slightly higher and that of higenamine was significantly lower. Analysis of the patented drug and fuzi flake demonstrated a strong correlation between higenamine and cardiac activity. Transcriptome analysis revealed that the upregulation of multiple genes in the isoquinoline pathway in Qingchuan cultivar resulted in the large difference of higenamine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Accessibility has long been considered as an important factor that influences activity generation, especially nonwork activities. However, the conclusions on whether greater accessibility leads to more travel have been mixed. One reason for the conflicting results is that individual heterogeneity is not taken into account in the previous location-based accessibility measures. This paper fills this gap by operationalizing a person-based space-time accessibility (STA) measure based on the individual's spatial-temporal constraints. A discrete-continuous model of shopping activity participation and duration is developed incorporating this STA measure in order to investigate the influences of accessibility on activity generation. Using data from a global positioning system (GPS)--based activity travel survey from the Shangdi area of Beijing, China, this paper confirms that accessibility remains a significant positive effect on shopping activity generation. Study Design: A genetic association study.Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate whether rs1978060 of TBX1 gene was a susceptible locus of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) in the Chinese Han population and to better define the functional role of TBX1 in the development and progression of AIS.Summary Of Background Data: A recent genome-wide association study reported a novel susceptible locus in TBX1 gene, which was associated with the development of AIS in the Japanese population. However, there is a paucity of knowledge concerning the functional role of TBX1 in the Chinese AIS population.Methods: The SNP rs1978060 was genotyped in 1725 female AIS patients and 2600 healthy controls. Paraspinal muscle samples were collected from 30 AIS patients and 26 age-matched congenital scoliosis (CS) patients for the analysis of tissue expression. The differences of genotype and allele distributions between the patients and the controls were calculated using the χ test. The Pearson correlation analysis was carried out to investigate the relation between the expression of the PAX1 gene and the curve severity.Results: SNP rs1978060 was significantly associated with the susceptibility of AIS. Allele G of rs1978060 could significantly add to the risk of AIS with an odds ratio of 1.12. The tissue expression of TBX1 was obviously decreased in AIS patients. There was a remarkable correlation between the curve magnitude and the TBX1 expression (r = -0.519, P = 0.003).Conclusion: The association between TBX1 and the susceptibility of AIS was successfully replicated in the Chinese population. Moreover, rs1978060 may be a functional variant regulating the expression of TBX1. Study Design: A retrospective study.Objective: To determine the incidence and risk factors of coronal decompensation after posterior-only thoracolumbar hemivertebra (HV) resection and short fusion in patients younger than 5-years old.Summary Of Background Data: Postoperative coronal decompensation may occur in operated patients during the follow up. However, there is a paucity of valid data regarding this complication in very young patients with thoracolumbar HV.Methods: This study reviewed a consecutive series of patients (younger than 5 years) who had undergone posterior-only hemivertebrectomy and short fusion from January 2006 to December 2014. They had a minimum follow-up of 24 months. According to the coronal compensation behavior, they were divided into two groups: Group P (progressed, curve decompensated beyond twenty degrees) and Group NP (nonprogressed, curve well compensated).Results: There were 179 patients included in this study. Mean age at surgery was 38 ± 11 months. Mean follow-up was 41 ± 11 months. Postoperative coronal decompensation was identified in 18 patients (rate, 10.1%) who constituted Group P. The remaining 161 patients had a well-compensated pattern. In contrast to Group NP, the patients in Group P had greater preoperative lowest instrumented vertebra (LIV) translation (18.5 mm ± 6.4 mm vs. 10.5 mm ± 4.9 mm, P < 0.01), and higher postoperative LIV disc angle (7.0° ± 3.1° vs. 3.1° ± 3.3°, P < 0.01) after surgery. During the follow up, LIV translation and LIV disc experienced continuous aggravation until initiation of bracing. Preoperative LIV translation (≥15.1 mm) and postoperative LIV disc angle (≥5.5°) were identified as two independent risk factors of coronal decompensation after surgery.Conclusion: After thoracolumbar hemivertebrectomy in children younger than 5 years, the overall rate of coronal decompensation is approximately 10.1%. As two independent risk factors of postoperative coronal decompensation, preoperative LIV translation (≥15.1 mm) and postoperative LIV disc angle (≥5.5°) should on all accounts be the major causes for concern.Level Of Evidence: 4.
