Curcumae Longae Rhizoma (turmeric), Curcumae Radix and Curcumae Rhizoma are derived from the Curcuma species, and have gradually become three of the most commonly used medicinal herbs in China due to their different origins, processing methods and medicinal part. These three herbs have certain similarities inmorphology, chemical composition, and pharmacological effects. All three of these herbs contain curcuminoids and volatile oil compounds, which exhibit anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and neuroprotective properties, althoughmodern clinical applications have their own requirements. At present, there is no systematic guidelines for the clinical application of these three of Curcuma species; consequently, there is a high risk of unwanted phenomena associated with the mixing and indiscriminate use of these herbs. In this review, we focus predominantly on morphology, chemical composition, and the pharmacological activity of these three Curcuma herbs and summarize the current status of research in this field. Our goal is to provide a better understanding of clinical value of these Curcuma species so that we can provide reference guidelines for their further development, utilization and rational clinical application. The infrageneric taxonomy system, species delimitation, and interspecies systematic relationships of Leontopodium remain controversial and complex. However, only a few studies have focused on the molecular phylogeny of this genus. In this study, the characteristics of 43 chloroplast genomes of Leontopodium and its closely related genera were analyzed. Phylogenetic relationships were inferred based on chloroplast genomes and nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrDNA). Finally, together with the morphological characteristics, the relationships within Leontopodium were identified and discussed. The results showed that the chloroplast genomes of Filago, Gamochaeta, and Leontopodium were well-conserved in terms of gene number, gene order, and GC content. The most remarkable differences among the three genera were the length of the complete chloroplast genome, large single-copy region, small single-copy region, and inverted repeat region. In addition, the chloroplast genome structure of Leontopodium exhibited high consistency and was obviously different from that of Filago and Gamochaeta in some regions, such as matk, trnK (UUU)-rps16, petNpsbM, and trnE (UUC)-rpoB. All the phylogenetic trees indicated that Leontopodium was monophyletic. Except for the subgeneric level, our molecular phylogenetic results were inconsistent with the previous taxonomic system, which was based on morphological characteristics. Nevertheless, we found that the characteristics of the leaf base, stem types, and carpopodium base were phylogenetically correlated and may have potential value in the taxonomic study of Leontopodium. In the phylogenetic trees inferred using complete chloroplast genomes, the subgen. Leontopodium was divided into two clades (Clades 1 and 2), with most species in Clade 1 having herbaceous stems, amplexicaul, or sheathed leaves, and constricted carpopodium; most species in Clade 2 had woody stems, not amplexicaul and sheathed leaves, and not constricted carpopodium. Background: It is proposed that the development of parenteral nutrition-associated cholestasis (PNAC) was significantly associated with preterm birth, low birth weight, infection, etc.; however, the etiology and pathogenesis of PNAC are not fully understood. Most of the studies examining PNAC-associated risk factors were single-center studies with relatively small sample sizes. Objective: To analyze the risk factors associated with PNAC in preterm infants in China. Methods: This is a retrospective multicenter observational study. Clinical data on the effect of multiple oil-fat emulsions (soybean oil-medium chain triglycerides-olive oil-fish oil, SMOF) in preterm infants were collected from a prospective multicenter randomized controlled study. A secondary analysis was performed in which preterm infants were divided into the PNAC group and the non-PNAC group based on the PNAC status. Results: A total of 465 cases very preterm infants or very low birth weight infants were included in the study in which 81 cases were assigned to the PNAC group and 384 cases were assigned to the non-PNAC group. The PNAC group had a lower mean gestational age, lower mean birth weight, longer duration of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, a longer duration oxygen support, and longer hospital stay (P < 0.001 for all). The PNAC group had higher respiratory distress syndrome, hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) with stage II or higher, surgically treated NEC, late-onset sepsis, metabolic bone disease, and extrauterine growth retardation (EUGR) compared to the non-PNAC group (P < 0.05 for all). In contrast with the non-PNAC group, the PNAC group received a higher maximum dose of amino acids and fat emulsion, more medium/long-chain fatty emulsion, less SMOF, had a longer duration of parenteral nutrition, lower rates of breastfeeding, higher incidence of feeding intolerance (FI), more accumulated days to achieve total enteral nutrition, less accumulated days of total calories up to standard 110 kcal/kg/day and slower velocity of weight growth (P < 0.05 for all). Logistic regression analysis indicated that the maximum dose of amino acids (OR, 5.352; 95% CI, 2.355 to 12.161), EUGR (OR, 2.396; 95% CI, 1.255 to 4.572), FI (OR, 2.581; 95% CI, 1.395 to 4.775), surgically treated NEC (OR, 11.300; 95% CI, 2.127 ~ 60.035), and longer total hospital stay (OR, 1.030; 95% CI, 1.014 to 1.046) were independent risk factors for the development of PNAC. SMOF (OR, 0.358; 95% CI, 0.193 to 0.663) and breastfeeding (OR, 0.297; 95% CI, 0.157 to 0.559) were protective factors for PNAC. Objective: To investigate the protective effect of high-proportion breast milk feeding (>50%) on intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) in very preterm infants (VPIs). Methods: This was a retrospective secondary analysis of a prospective multi-center study, which included 604 VPIs from six hospitals in eastern China between September 2019 and December 2020. The 604 VPIs were divided into two groups according to whether IVH occurred. High-proportion breast milk feeding was defined as breast milk accounting for 51-100% of the total feeding amount both within 7 days and throughout the hospitalization. The IVH grades and the rate of high-proportion breast milk feeding were analyzed. Furthermore, to explore the relationship between high-proportion breast milk feeding and IVH grading, the VPIs' general information, perinatal factors, growth, and nutritional status during hospitalization, and related complications were compared between the two groups. Results: High-proportion breast milk feeding was reported in 63.41% of the VPIs. Furthermore, IVH grades I-II and III-IV were noted in 39.73% (240/604) and 1.66% (10/604) of the VPIs, respectively. Univariate analysis revealed that IVH occurrence in VPIs is influenced by perinatal factors, invasive respiratory therapy, high-proportion breast milk feeding, start feeding with breast milk, the cumulative amount of early parenteral nutrition, postnatal complications, physical growth, and other factors (P < 0.05). After adjustments for gestational age, birth weight, and possible influencing factors through binary logistic regression analysis, the results revealed that high-proportion breast milk feeding and and start feeding with breast milk were associated with a lower total incidence of IVH. Further stratification showed that high-proportion breast milk feeding was associated with a lower incidence of grade I-II IVH. Similarly, after adjusting for the same factors, breast milk feeding >50% in the 1st week was associated with a decreased incidence of total IVH and further stratification showed that it was associated with a lower incidence of grade I-II IVH. Conclusion: High-proportion breast milk feeding and breast milk feeding more than 50% of total intake during the 1st week might be protective factors for IVH grade I-II in VPIs, which further verified the neuroprotective effect of breastmilk. In clinical practice, the construction of breastmilk banks should be strengthened, breast milk feeding should be encouraged in neonatal intensive care units, and efforts should be made to increase breast milk feeding rates to improve the outcomes of VPIs. The incidence of extrauterine growth retardation (EUGR) varies considerably in different countries due to the distinct definitions and inclusion criteria of individual studies. Most studies included small for gestational age (SGA) very preterm infants (VPIs), resulting in a higher incidence of EUGR. Experts have suggested the accurate definition of "EUGR" in SGA infants is not "true EUGR". The postnatal growth curve of multiple premature births also differs from that of singletons. As far as we know, there is no study about relationship between singleton-non-SGA preterm infants and EUGR. To analyze the factors influencing EUGR among VPIs who were singleton-non-SGA in China. A prospective-multicenter study was conducted in 28 hospitals distributed through China from September 2019 to December 2020. The clinical data on singleton-non-SGA among VPIs were divided into EUGR group (n = 692) and non-EUGR group (n = 912). Compared to non-EUGR group, the mean gestational age (GA), mean birth weight (BW) and percentage of BW in Fenton curve in EUGR group were lower (P < 0.001 for all). The incidence of EUGR among distinct GA groups (classifications of GA < 28weeks, 28–28+6 weeks, 29–29+6 weeks, 30–30+6 weeks and 31–31+6 weeks) and distinct BW groups (classifications of BW<1000 g, 1000–1249 g, 1250–1499 g, 1500–1999g and 2000–2500 g) were statistically significant (P = 0.004 and P <.001). Logistic regression analysis indicated that later addition of human milk fortifier (HMF), later attainment of HMF sufficient fortification, later return to BW, more accumulative days of fasting, longer duration of parenteral nutrition, total duration of oxygen support and moderate/severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) were risk factors for the development of EUGR in singleton-non-SGA VPIs (P < 0.001, P = 0.002, P < 0.001, P = 0.002, P = 0.017, P = 0.003 and P = 0.002, respectively). The use of full-course antenatal steroids, greater BW as a percentile of the Fenton curve, breastfeeding initiation and faster average velocity of weight growth effectively protected against EUGR (P = 0.008, P < 0.001, P < 0.001 and P < 0.001, respectively). The overall incidence of EUGR was 43.1% among singleton-non-SGA VPIs in China. Raising the full-course antenatal steroids usage, reducing the incidence of moderate and severe BPD, attaching importance to the management of enteral nutrition in VPIs and increasing the weight growth velocity can reduce the incidence of EUGR. Background: The fall armyworm (FAW) Spodoptera frugiperda Smith (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) invaded Myanmar and China in 2018 and greatly impacted agricultural production and ecosystem balance in these areas. FAW is a migratory insect, but its seasonal migration pattern between the two countries has been largely unknown. From 2019 to 2021, we monitored the seasonal migration of FAW in the China–Myanmar border area using a searchlight trap, assessed the reproductive development status of female migrants and traced the migratory routes by trajectory simulation. Results: FAW moths were trapped by the searchlight trap in Lancang County (Yunnan, China) all year, with obvious seasonal differences in the number caught. There were small‐scale persistent trapping peaks in spring and summer, and obvious peaks in autumn; only a small number of moths were trapped in winter. Examination of the ovaries of female moths collected in different seasons showed that most females had matured, indicating that the moths were migrating and did not take off from the local area. In the migration trajectory simulation, FAW mainly migrated from Myanmar to Southwest China in spring and summer and back to Myanmar in autumn. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that FAW migrates between China and Myanmar according to the monsoon circulation, which will help guide cross‐border regional monitoring and management strategies against this pest. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry. Isotrema pseudohei, a new species from Yunnan, Southwest China, is described and illustrated. It is morphologically similar to I. hei and I. moupinense, but differs from the former in the colour of flower and throat, the size of throat and the shape of gynostemium lobes, and from the latter in the shape of lamina and gynostemium lobes. A new species of Isotrema was recently discovered from Guizhou, China and is here named as I. brevilimbum. It is most similar to I. ovatifolium and I. wardianum, but differs in the morphology of leaves and flowers. A detailed description for the new species, along with line drawings, photographs, as well as morphological comparisons with similar species, are provided. Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a leading cause of neonatal sepsis and an important cause of maternal disease in many countries; however, no accurate population-based epidemiological data on GBS is yet available in mainland China. In this systematic literature review, we obtained published data regarding the maternal GBS colonization rate, incidence of invasive GBS disease in infants, clinical screening, and the associated GBS typing and clinical outcomes in China. The maternal GBS colonization rate in mainland China ranged from 3.7 to 14.52%, and the incidence of invasive GBS disease in infants was 0.55–1.79 per 1000 live births, with a case fatality risk ranging from 6.45 to 7.1%. Serotype III was the dominant serotype that was observed in GBS isolates. GBS detection and identification has become more commonplace, due to the availability of polymerase chain reaction and DNA microarray technologies. Immunizing pregnant women against GBS is an emerging approach through which newborns are protected from GBS. The available data suggest that five GBS serotypes (Ia, Ib, II, III, and V) account for the majority of the cases of GBS disease in mainland China. Furthermore, conjugate vaccines comprising some or all of these serotypes are of potential value in the prevention of GBS infection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study explored nephrotoxicity in elderly Chinese patients after exposure to vancomycin and other nephrotoxic risk factors. This was a single-center retrospective study. The patient population included those who were ≥60 years of age, had normal baseline serum creatinine values, and received vancomycin for ≥48 h between January 1, 2013 and August 30, 2014. Nephrotoxicity occurred in 29% of 124 patients. A baseline creatinine clearance ≥63.5 ml/min was more common in the nephrotoxic group. Patients with high (≥15 mg/l) rather than low (<15 mg/l) average vancomycin troughs had elevated nephrotoxicity (47.2 vs. 27.3%, p = 0.0001). Of the comorbid conditions evaluated, there were more patients with shock (p = 0.001), hypertension (p = 0.020) and congestive heart failure (p = 0.04) in the nephrotoxic group. Drugs frequently given at the same time with vancomycin, such as angiotensin receptor blockers and furosemide, were also associated with increased nephrotoxic risk. In conclusion, nephrotoxicity was frequently observed in patients with concurrent vancomycin trough concentrations ≥15 μg/ml and hypertension, shock, congestive heart failure. In addition, drugs concurrently used with vancomycin may also increase its nephrotoxicity. Objective: Several previous studies have reported the role variant of ERCC1 rs3212986 and ERCC2 rs13181 polymorphisms in the risk of glioma, but the results of these studies are inconsistent. Therefore, we aimed to conduct a meta-analysis to investigate the role of ERCC1 rs3212986 and ERCC2 rs13181 on the risk of glioma. Methods: A comprehensive research was conducted through the databases of Pubmed, EMBASE and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) platforms until June 1, 2014, including 14 eligible casecontrol studies. Results: Our meta-analysis found that ERCC1 rs3212986 AA genotype was significantly associated with increased risk of glioma compared with CC genotype, and the pooled OR (95%CI) was 1.29(1.07-1.55). By subgroup analysis, ERCC1 rs3212986 AA genotype was found to be significantly correlated with increased glioma risk in Chinese population (OR=1.37, 95%CI=1.07, 1.55), Similarly, we found that ERCC2 rs13181 GT and TT genotypes were significantly associated with increased risk of glioma in Chinese population, with ORs(95%CI) of 1.47(1.17-1.85) and 1.50(1.02-2.22). But ERCC1 rs3212986 and ERCC2 rs13181 polymorphisms had no significant association with glioma risk in Caucasian populations. By begg's funnel plot, we found that no publication bias was existed in this meta-analysis. Conclusion: Our meta-analysis suggested that ERCC1 rs3212986 and ERCC2 rs13181 polymorphism play an important risk factor for brain tumor development in Chinese population, but no association in Caucasian populations. Cymbidium tortisepalum (Orchidaceae) has been ranked as an endangered (EN) herb species in China. In this study, we report and characterize the complete plastid genome sequence of C. tortisepalum var. longibracteatum in order to provide genomic resources helpful for promoting its conservation and garden utilization. The complete plastome is 150,198 bp in length and contains the typical quadripartite structure of angiosperm, including two Inverted Repeat (IRs) regions of 25,682 bp, a Large Single-Copy (LSC) region of 85,035 bp and a Small Single-Copy (SSC) region of 13,799 bp. The plastome contains 111 genes, consisting of 77 unique protein-coding genes, 30 unique tRNA gene and 4 unique rRNA genes. The overall A/T content in the plastome of C. tortisepalum var. longibracteatum is 62.90%. The complete plastome sequence of C. tortisepalum var. longibracteatum will provide a useful resource for the conservation and garden utilization of this species as well as for the phylogenetic studies of Orchidaceae. Two new tetrahydrobenzocyclooctabenzofuranone lignans (1 – 2), a new dibenzocyclooctadiene lignan (3) and three new schiartane-type triterpenoids (4 – 6), together with six known compounds (7 – 12), were isolated from the roots of Kadsura longipedunculata. Their structures were elucidated by extensive NMR and HRESIMS spectroscopic data analysis. The absolute configurations of these compounds were determined by comparison of the experimental and calculated ECD spectra. Compound 12 exhibited moderate hepatoprotective activity against N -acetyl- p -aminophenol (APAP)-induced toxicity in HepG2 cells with cell survival rates of 53.04%. Crude and refined rubber seed oil (RSO) produced from Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province was analyzed. After methylation and saponification, the contents of fatty acids and phytosterols were determined by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Results showed that both the crude and refined RSOs contained high levels of unsaturated fatty acids and phytosterols. Four unsaturated fatty acid contents of 83.56% and 83.25% are found in both crude and refined RSOs, respectively. Six to seven types of phytosterols are found in both crude and refined RSOs. The contents of β-sitosterol are 12.13 and 11.22 mg/g in crude and refined RSO, respectively. This study provided fundamental instruction on the research, development, and utilization of RSO. Abstract: Ethnopharmocological relevance: Geranium wilfordii Maxim has been extensively used in Chinese Herbal Medicine for treating gastrointestinal disorders, diarrhea and dysentery. In the current study we aimed to investigate the anti-Helicobacter pylori activity of ethanol extracts of Geranium wilfordii Maxim and its main active compounds, corilagin and 1,2,3,6-tetra-O-galloyl-β-d-glucose. Materials and methods: The plant materials were extracted three times with ethanol and the concentrated filtrate was successively fractioned into chloroform, ethyl acetate, and n-BuOH-soluble portions which were examined in vitro for the anti-Helicobacter. pylori activity. Employing a standard strain and five clinical isolates of Helicobacter pylori, the extract, fractions and compounds of Geranium wilfordii Maxim were assessed in vitro. Results: The ethanol fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, corilagin, and 1,2,3,6-tetra-O-galloyl-β-d-glucose were found to be strongly inhibitory to Helicobacter. pylori (MICs: 40, 30, 4, and 8μg/ml respectively). Conclusions: The results of the present study showed that the ethanol and the ethyl acetate extracts from Geranium wilfordii Maxim displayed as well the most significant inhibition to the growth of Helicobacter. pylori, of which corilagin and 1,2,3,6-tetra-O-galloyl-β-d-glucose have been identified main anti-Helicobacter pylori active constituents. Ecosystem multifunctionality reflects the capacity of ecosystems to simultaneously maintain multiple functions which are essential bases for human sustainable development. Whereas viruses are a major component of the soil microbiome that drive ecosystem functions across biomes, the relationships between soil viral diversity and ecosystem multifunctionality remain under-studied. To address this critical knowledge gap, we employed a combination of amplicon and metagenomic sequencing to assess prokaryotic, fungal and viral diversity, and to link viruses to putative hosts. We described the features of viruses and their potential hosts in 154 soil samples from 29 farmlands and 25 forests distributed across China. Although 4,460 and 5,207 viral populations (vOTUs) were found in the farmlands and forests respectively, the diversity of specific vOTUs rather than overall soil viral diversity was positively correlated with ecosystem multifunctionality in both ecosystem types. Furthermore, the diversity of these keystone vOTUs, despite being 10-100 times lower than prokaryotic or fungal diversity, was a better predictor of ecosystem multifunctionality and more strongly associated with the relative abundances of prokaryotic genes related to soil nutrient cycling. Gemmatimonadota and Actinobacteria dominated the host community of soil keystone viruses in the farmlands and forests respectively, but were either absent or showed a significantly lower relative abundance in that of soil non-keystone viruses. Background: Due to regional and cultural differences, the current status of extremely preterm infants(EPIs) treatment across different areas of mainland China remains unclear. This study investigated the survival rate and incidence of major diseases among EPIs in the southwest area of Fujian province., Method: This retrospective and multicenter study collected perinatal data from EPIs with gestational ages between 22-27 + 6 w and born in the southwest area of Fujian province. The study population was divided into 6 groups based on gestational age at delivery. The primary outcome was the survival status at ordered hospital discharge or correct gestational age of 40 weeks, and the secondary outcome was the incidence of major diseases. The study analyzed the actual survival status of EPIs in the area., Result: A total of 2004 preterm infants with gestational ages of 22-27 + 6 weeks were enrolled in this study. Among them, 1535 cases (76.6%) were born in the delivery room but did not survive, 469 cases (23.4%) were transferred to the neonatal department for treatment, 101 cases (5.0%) received partial treatment, and 368 cases (18.4%) received complete treatment. The overall all-cause mortality rate was 84.4% (1691/2004). The survival rate and survival rate without major serious disease for EPIs who received complete treatment were 85.1% (313/368) and 31.5% (116/318), respectively. The survival rates for gestational ages 22-22 + 6 w, 23-23 + 6 w, 24-24 + 6 w, 25-25 + 6 w, 26-26 + 6 w, and 27-27 + 6 w were 0%, 0%, 59.1% (13/22), 83% (39/47), 88.8% (87/98), and 89.7% (174/198), respectively. The survival rates without major serious disease were 0%, 0%, 9.1% (2/22), 19.1% (9/47), 27.6% (27/98), and 40.2% (78/194), respectively., Conclusion: The all-cause mortality of EPIs in the southwest area of Fujian Province remains high, with a significant number of infants were given up after birth in the delivery room being the main influencing factor. The survival rate of EPIs who received complete treatment at 25-27 weeks in the NICU was similar to that in developed countries. Background: To analyze the real-world growth pattern of very premature infants (VPI) with small for gestational age (SGA) after birth by using the ΔZ value of weight at discharge., Methods: The clinical data were collected from 28 hospitals in China from September 2019 to December 2020. They were divided into the EUGR(Extrauterine Growth Restriction) and the non-EUGR group according to the criterion of ΔZ value of weight at discharge < -1.28., Results: This study included 133 eligible VPI with SGA. Following the criterion of ΔZ value, the incidence of EUGR was 36.84% (49/133). The birth weight, the 5-min Apgar score, and the proportion of male infants in the EUGR group were lower (P < 0.05). The average invasive ventilation time, cumulative duration of the administration of antibiotics, blood transfusion time, blood transfusion ratio, and total days of hospitalization were significantly higher in the EUGR group (P < 0.05). In the EUGR group, several factors exhibited higher values (P < 0.05), including the initiation of enteral feeding, the volume of milk supplemented with human milk fortifier (HMF), the duration to achieve complete fortification, the cumulative duration of fasting, the duration to achieve full enteral feeding, the length of parenteral nutrition (PN), the number of days required to attain the desired total calorie intake and oral calorie intake, as well as the age at which birth weight was regained. The average weight growth velocity (GV) was significantly lower in the EUGR group (P < 0.001). The incidences of patent ductus arteriosus with hemodynamic changes (hsPDA), neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) stage≥ 2, late-onset sepsis (LOS), and feeding intolerance (FI) in the EUGR group were higher (P < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that birth weight, male, and GV were the protective factors, while a long time to achieve full-dose fortification, slow recovery of birth weight, and NEC stage ≥2 were the independent risk factors., Conclusion: SGA in VPI can reflect the occurrence of EUGR more accurately by using the ΔZ value of weight at discharge. Enhancing enteral nutrition support, achieving prompt and complete fortification of breast milk, promoting greater GV, reducing the duration of birth weight recovery, and minimizing the risk of NEC can contribute to a decreased occurrence of EUGR., Trial Registration: CHICTR, ChiCTR1900023418. Objectives: The management of enteral nutrition in very preterm infants (VPIs) is still controversial, and there is no consensus on the optimal time point after birth at which enteral nutrition can be started. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of early initiation of enteral nutrition on the short-term clinical outcomes of VPIs., Methods: Data of infants (n = 2514) born before 32 wk of gestation were collected from 28 hospitals located in seven different regions of China. Based on whether enteral feeding was initiated within or after 24 h since birth, the infants were divided into an early initiation of enteral feeding (EIEF) group and a delayed initiation of enteral feeding (DIEF) group., Results: Compared with the DIEF group, the EIEF group was more likely to tolerate enteral nutrition and had less need for parenteral nutrition (all P < 0.05). The EIEF group was associated with lower incidence rates of feeding intolerance, extrauterine growth restriction (EUGR), and late-onset sepsis (LOS) (all P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) (Bell stage ≥2) between the two groups (P = 0.118). The multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that EIEF was a protective factor against EUGR (odds ratio [OR], 0.621; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.544-0.735; P < 0.001), feeding intolerance (OR, 0.658; 95% CI, 0.554-0.782; P < 0.001), and LOS (OR, 0.706; 95% CI, 0.550-0.906; P = 0.006)., Conclusions: Early initiation of enteral feeding was associated with less frequency of feeding intolerance, EUGR, and LOS, and it may shorten the time to reach total enteral feeding without increasing the risk of NEC., (Copyright © 2022 The Author(s). Well-established surveillance and monitoring systems for respiratory viruses need to be improved, and epidemiological data on respiratory viruses in China are scarce. This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of respiratory viruses among hospitalized children aged ≤2 years with acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) in Xiamen, China, from October 2014 to September 2017. The clinical records of 7,248 children hospitalized for ARTIs were retrospectively analyzed. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) (22.3%) was the most common virus among hospitalized children aged ≤2 years, followed by parainfluenza (5.0%), adenovirus (3.5%), and influenza (1.7%). RSV-infected children had a higher disease burden, including a higher intensive care unit (ICU) admission rate (12.7%) and higher hospital charges ($635.36). Particularly, infants aged <6 months had the highest risk of RSV infection (odds ratio = 2.4; 95% CI, 1.9-2.9) and a higher ICU admission rate (12.1% vs. 4.5%, 4.6%) and hospital cost ($923.3 vs. $785.5, $811.7) than the other age groups. Therefore, infants aged 0-6 months, particularly premature infants and children with congenital diseases, should receive more attention. There is an urgent need to develop effective immunization strategies to protect these infants during the first 6 months of life and in the RSV season.

Aksay Kazakhs are the easternmost branch of Kazakhs, residing in Jiuquan city, the forefront of the ancient Silk Road. However, the genetic diversity of Aksay Kazakhs and its relationships with other Kazakhs still lack attention. To clarify this issue, we analyzed the non-recombining portion of the Y-chromosome from 93 Aksay Kazakhs samples, using a high-resolution analysis of 106 biallelic markers and 17 STRs. The lowest haplogroup diversity (0.38) was observed in Aksay Kazakhs among all studied Kazakh populations. The social and cultural traditions of the Kazakhs shaped their current pattern of genetic variation. Aksay Kazakhs tended to migrate with clans and had limited paternal admixture with neighboring populations. Aksay Kazakhs had the highest frequency (80%) of haplogroup C2b1a3a1-F3796 (previous C3*-Star Cluster) among the investigated Eurasian steppe populations, which was now seen as the genetic marker of Kerei clan. Furthermore, NETWORK analysis indicated that Aksay Kazakhs originated from sub-clan Kerei-Abakh in Kazakhstan with DYS448 = 23. TMRCA estimates of three recent descent clusters detected in C2*-M217 (xM48) network, one of which incorporate nearly all of the C2b1a3a1-F3796 Aksay Kazakhs samples, gave the age range of 976-1405 YA for DC1, 1059-1314 YA for DC2, and 1139-1317 YA for DC3, respectively; this is coherent with the 7 th to the 11 th centuries Altaic-speaking pastoral nomadic population expansion.

Inadequate nutrition supply in the early stage after birth is a risk factor for the development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in preterm infants, and it is also closely associated with the progression and clinical outcome of BPD. Optimized nutritional support is of great importance to reduce the incidence and severity of BPD and promote lung development and neurological prognosis. Based on the relevant studies in China and overseas, the expert consensus on BPD nutrition management is developed by the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) method. The consensus includes the following seven aspects: the importance of nutrition in BPD, fluid intake, energy intake, enteral nutrition, parenteral nutrition, post-discharge nutrition, and nutrition monitoring and evaluation.

Genghis Khan's lineage has attracted both academic and general interest because of its mystery and large influence. However, the truth behind the mystery is complicated and continues to confound the scientific study. In this study, we surveyed the molecular genealogy of Northwestern China's Lu clan who claim to be the descendants of the sixth son of Genghis Khan, Toghan. We also investigated living members of the Huo and Tuo clans, who, according to oral tradition, were close male relatives of Lu clan. Using network analysis, we found that the Y-chromosomal haplotypes of Lu clan mainly belong to haplogroup C2b1a1b1-F1756, widely prevalent in Altaic-speaking populations, and are closely related to the Tore clan from Kazakhstan, who claim to be the descendants of the first son of Genghis Khan, Jochi. The most recent common ancestor of the special haplotype cluster that includes the Lu clan and Tore clan lived about 1000 years ago (YA), while the Huo and Tuo clans do not share any Y lineages with the Lu clan. In addition to the reported lineages, such as C3*-Star Cluster, R1b-M343, and Q, our results indicate that haplogroup C2b1a1b1-F1756 might be another candidate of the true Y lineage of Genghis Khan.

Objective: To understand Leishmania infections among employees of China Petroleum First Construction Corporation returning from Uzbekistan, and take timely actions to prevent the spread of the epidemic., Methods: Questionnaire survey was conducted to collect screening subjects'information. Palpation of the liver, spleen and superficial lymph nodes was performed by a physician, and the lesions on the frequently exposed skin were detected by a dermatologist. In addition, the liver and spleen sizes were measured using B-mode ultrasonography, and serum samples were collected to be subjected to an rK39-based rapid diagnostic test for detection of visceral leishmaniasis. Leishmania was detected using microscopy in the specimens sampled from the lesioned skin, and the parasites species was identified using molecular assays in parasitologically positive specimens., Results: Among the 181 employees screened, enlarged cervical lymph nodes were palpable in 6 subjects, and skin lesions were found in 12 cases. B-mode ultrasonography displayed hepatosplenomegaly in 5 cases, and rK39 test were positive in 3 serum samples. Two classical lesioned skin specimens were sampled, and Leishmania was detected in one specimen. The promastigote DNA was extracted and two fragments of 120 bp and 350 bp in sizes were amplified using PCR assay with K13A/K13B and L5.8S/LITSR primers specific to Leishmania . The two amplification products were 90% and 98% homologous to the corresponding sequences of L. major (GenBank accession numbers: EU370906.1 and FN677342.1)., Conclusions: Six patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis were screened, including 2 uncured cases. One uncured case was diagnosed as imported cutaneous leishmaniasis caused by L. major infection.

Background: As no population-based studies of group B Streptococcus (GBS) colonization rates in late pregnancy (at 35-37 weeks of gestation) have been conducted in China, the incidence of and risk factors for neonatal early-onset GBS disease (GBS-EOD) in China remains poorly understood., Objectives: To determine the GBS colonization rate in late pregnancy and neonatal GBS infection in Xiamen, China, and to assess the effectiveness of intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis (IAP) for the prevention of neonatal GBS-EOD., Methods: A total of 49,908 pregnant women were enrolled between April 1, 2014 and March 31, 2017. Bacterial culture was used to diagnose GBS infection in both pregnant women and neonates. Women with GBS colonization received IAP during parturition or rupture of fetal membranes., Results: The GBS colonization rate was 13.89% (6,933/49,908); 50,772 neonates were born to 49,908 pregnant women, of whom 75 (1.48 per 1,000) were diagnosed with GBS-EOD. The incidence of GBS-EOD among neonates born to GBS-positive mothers (8.77‰; 62/7,068) was 29 times higher than that of neonates born to GBS-negative mothers (0.30‰; 13/43,704). Logistic regression analysis indicated that gestational bacteriuria, GBS disease in infants from previous pregnancies, and chorioamnionitis were risk factors for GBS-EOD (p = 0.007, p = 0.000, and p = 0.018, respectively). IAP effectively protected against neonatal GBS-EOD (p = 0.011)., Conclusions: GBS colonization was detected in nearly 14% of late pregnant women. The IAP for reducing GBS-EOD was effective. Objective: To estimate the association of driver sleepiness with the risk of car crashes., Methods: A population-based case-control study was conducted in Shenyang, a northeastern city in China, between November 2001 and July 2002. The case group comprised 406 car drivers involved in crashes, and 438 car drivers recruited at randomly selected sites, and on the day of week, and the time of day when they were driving on highways in the study region during the study period were used as control groups. Face-to-face interviews with drivers were conducted according to a well-structured questionnaire covering the circumstances of their current trip and their background information. Stanford sleepiness scale and Epworth sleepiness scale were used to quantify acute sleepiness and chronic sleepiness respectively., Results: There was a strong association between chronic sleepiness and the risk of car crash. Significantly increased risk of crash was associated with drivers who identified themselves as sleepy (Epworth sleepiness score > or = 10 vs < 10; adjusted odds ratio 2.07, 95% confidence interval 1.30 to 3.29), but no increased risk was associated with measures of acute sleepiness., Conclusions: Chronic sleepiness in car drivers significantly increases the risk of car crash. Reductions in road traffic injuries may be achieved if fewer people drive when they are sleepy.
