Two new sesquiterpenoid glycosides, 8α (H)-eudesmane-1,3,11 (13)-triene-2-one -12-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (1) and dmetelisproside B (2), together with ten known compounds (3–12) were isolated from calyces of Physalis alkekengi L. var. franchetii (Mast.) Makino (PAF). Their structures were unambiguously elucidated through HR-ESI-MS, UV, IR, and NMR spectral data. Compounds 1, 10, and 12 exhibited DPPH scavenging ability with IC50 values of 33.69 ± 6.65, 6.29 ± 0.06, and 25.66 ± 3.06 μM, respectively. Additionally, 10 and 12 demonstrated weak α-glucosidase inhibition activity with IC50 values of 250.9 ± 6.60 and 347.6 ± 2.48 μM, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article examines past and present moral education practices in Chinese families. It begins with a brief overview of Confucian thought on moral education and its lasting influence on Chinese moral ethos. It then identifies the types of moral values emphasised by Chinese parents, as well as the kinds of moral education literature they use for teaching. It proceeds to analyse the methods employed by Chinese parents to instil moral values in everyday contexts. Using evidence from research and recent news reports on Chinese moral conduct, the author argues that the moral socialisation practices in Chinese families may be problematic, despite their best intentions. The article concludes by suggesting alternative family moral education approaches for future consideration.

The current lithospheric root of the South China Block has been partly removed, yet what mechanisms modified the lithospheric structure remain highly controversial. Here we use a new joint seismic inversion algorithm to image tabular high-velocity anomalies at depths of ~90–150 km in the asthenosphere beneath the convergent belt between the Yangtze and Cathaysia blocks that remain weakly connected with the stable Yangtze lithosphere. Based on obtained seismic images and available geochemical data, we interpret these detached fast anomalies as partially destabilized lower lithosphere that initially delaminated at 180–170 Ma and has relaminated to their original position after warming up in the mantle by now. We conclude that delamination is the most plausible mechanism for the lithospheric modification and the formation of a Mesozoic Basin and Range-style magmatic province in South China by triggering adiabatic upwelling of the asthenosphere and consequent lithospheric extension and extensive melting of the overlying crust. China's Chang'e‐5 (CE‐5) mission successfully returned a total of 1.731 kg of lunar material from the north‐eastern Oceanus Procellarum region. Young (∼2.0 Ga) ages were reported from the CE‐5 basalts. However, there are controversies on whether they are low‐Ti or high‐Ti mare basalt type. Here, we report the results of a comprehensive petrographic, elemental, and Pb isotopic investigation on a 17.6 mg CE‐5 basalt clast (CE5C0000YJYX048). By combining high‐resolution X‐ray tomography of the clast and microbeam (scanning electron microscope SEM, electron probe microanalyzer EPMA) analyses of mineral grains peeled off the clast surface, we derived the bulk clast chemical composition with a very small sample consumption (i.e., <3 mg). The poikilitic clast has a bulk TiO2 content of 3.78 ± 1.01 wt%, which is representative of a low‐Ti basalt end‐member in the lunar mare basalts samples. Furthermore, the pyroxene in the studied clast is dominantly pigeonite, in contrast to other reported CE‐5 samples where augite is the dominant pyroxene mineralogy. Despite these compositional peculiarities, in situ secondary ion mass spectrometer dating yielded a Pb‐Pb age of 2,040 ± 22 Ma for the fragment, which is consistent with ages reported from other CE‐5. Based on the chemical and age data analyzed in this study, it can be concluded that the lunar basalts obtained from the CE‐5 mission originated from a low‐Ti mare basalt‐type source. The mineral composition of the mare basalt clast studied, which is dominated by pigeonite, fayalite, and anorthite, likely resulted from late‐stage magmatic crystallization when the magma was enriched in Fe. Plain Language Summary: Studying lunar meteorites and samples returned from missions are key ways to conduct scientific research and increase our knowledge of the moon. These methods allow us to move beyond simple observations and make direct measurements of lunar materials. After 45 years from the Apollo and Luna missions, in December 2020, Chang'E‐5 (CE‐5), China's first lunar mission, returned with a total of 1.731 kg of lunar soil. The basalt clasts in the soil are dated at ∼2 billion years ago, which represents the youngest lunar basalt ever studied. The origin of the CE‐5 basalts is still debated because it is composed of heterogeneous materials. The CE‐5 basaltic clast studied here has a unique mineral composition compared to previous data of other CE‐5 basaltic clasts and Apollo basalt samples. This discrepancy is ascribed to the different stages of magma formation in which the occurrence of different minerals subtracted elements and changed the magma's composition. As a result, the heterogeneity of the CE‐5 returned lunar basalts relates to different stages of magma evolution. The present project adds new knowledge to understanding the formation of the lunar basalts around the CE‐5 landing site. While honesty is noticeably emphasized in Chinese childrearing practices, deception for the sake of collective good and maintenance of interpersonal relationship is widely endorsed by Chinese culture. This study examines how Chinese mothers negotiate between teaching honesty and helping their young children develop situational-appropriate deceptive skills in the everyday context. Forty 4-year olds and their mothers from Chinese working-class families were observed in their daily routines. The results suggest that on the one hand, Chinese mothers actively taught the value of honesty in the daily interactions with their young children by frequently initiating interactions related to it, spending longer time talking about it, and responding to their children's transgressions immediately, as well as using positive and negative examples to show the consequences of being honest and telling lies. On the other hand, the mothers used their own interactions with others to model how to use situational-appropriate deception to maintain harmonious inter-personal relationships and avoid conflicts. The mothers' beliefs about teaching honesty and using situational-appropriate deception were further examined through their responses to the video vignettes of other people's violation of honesty. This study examines how working-class mothers in the People's Republic of China respond to their young children's transgressions in everyday contexts. Twenty 4-year-old children and their mothers in a working-class neighbourhood were observed in their daily routines at home. When addressing children's transgressions and socialising desirable behaviour, mothers frequently made references to other children, children's media characters, past transgressions, authority figures and quotes from the classics. Moreover, the study indicates that mothers responded differently to some of the transgressions committed by boys as opposed to girls. This study also demonstrates that children understood social and moral rules by spontaneously elaborating on and appropriating the socialisation strategies used by their mothers. Examined how Chinese and American Indian mothers (20 mother-child dyads from each culture) supported their young children's emergent literacy development during everyday interactions. Found that Chinese mothers tended to privilege print-based literacy interactions more than American Indian mothers. American Indian mothers tended to privilege literacy interactions based on oral narratives of life and personal experiences. Objectives Crataegus pinnatifida (C. pinnatifida), including C. pinnatifida Bge. and its variant C. pinnatifida Bge. var. major N, E. Br. has traditionally been used as a homologous plant for traditional medicine and food in ethnic medical systems in China. Crataegus pinnatifida , especially its fruit, has been used for more than 2000 years to treat indigestion, stagnation of meat, hyperlipidemia, blood stasis, heart tingling, sores, etc. This review aimed to provide a systematic summary on the botany, traditional uses, phytochemistry, pharmacology and clinical applications of C. pinnatifida. Key findings This plant contains flavonoids, phenylpropanoids, terpenoids, organic acids, saccharides and essential oils. Experimental studies showed that it has hypolipidemic, antimyocardial, anti-ischemia, antithrombotic, anti-atherosclerotic, anti-inflammatory, antineoplastic neuroprotective activity, etc. Importantly, it has good effects in treating diseases of the digestive system and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular systems. Summary There is convincing evidence from both in vitro and in vivo studies supporting the traditional uses of C. pinnatifida. However, multitarget network pharmacology and molecular docking technology should be used to study the interaction between the active ingredients and targets of C. pinnatifida. Furthermore, exploring the synergy of C. pinnatifida with other Chinese medicines to provide new understanding of complex diseases may be a promising strategy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Understanding rodent seed caching behavior is critical for effective forest management and conservation. While it is well established that rodent feeding behavior is strongly affected by seed traits and insect infestation of seeds, there is still a knowledge gap on how these factors affect rodent feeding behavior. Here we conducted a series of experiments to investigate the feeding and hoarding preferences of two sympatric rodent species, the Chinese white-bellied rat (Niviventer confucianus) and South China field mouse (Apodemus draco) in response to Chinese chestnuts (Castanea mollissima) of contrasting seed size and insect infestation. When only sound nuts (not infested nuts) were provided, both species preferentially consumed larger nuts, esp. the larger N. confucianus showed more pronounced selective preference for larger nuts than the smaller A. draco. When sound and insect-infested nuts of equal size were provided, neither species selected for sound over insect-infested nuts, but infested seeds were more frequently consumed in situ. If nuts of differing size and infestation status were provided, rodents preferred to eat and hoard larger seeds regardless of insect infestation. Overall, however, infested seeds were more often consumed immediately in situ while sound seeds were more often consumed ex situ or cached. Our results thus support the seed size hypothesis, but show little evidence for the insect infestation hypothesis, and highlight that food preferences and optimal foraging decisions differ between sympatric rodent species. Significance statement: Rodent caching and feeding behaviors are strongly affected by co-varying seed traits such as size and insect infestation, which in turn regulate seed survival and seedling recruitment. By using semi-natural enclosures, we detected differences in feeding and hoarding behaviors between sympatric rodent species, and their different preferences for seed size and insect infestation. These different preferences may support the seed size hypothesis. Rodents based their foraging decision predominantly on seed size and not insect infestation, preferring to eat and hoard larger seeds regardless of their insect infestation. We suggest that the differences in feeding and hoarding behaviors of sympatric rodent species in relation to seed size and insect infestation should be considered in future field studies, as this will help us to better understand mechanisms that impact forest management and conservation. • Tectonic mélange consists of mafic granulite and amphibolite lenses intercalated within the metapelite. • The HP mafic granulite records clock P − T paths including ITD and subsequent IBC segments. • Diverse peak P − T conditions further signify the tectonic mélange formed in the tectonic exhumation. • The Paleoproterozoic orogenesis resembles the modern plate tectonics. Amphibolite- to granulite-facies rocks are widely distributed in the Hengshan Complex, middle Trans-North China Orogen, and the high-pressure (HP) mafic granulite has been recently identified in the southern Hengshan area. The HP mafic granulite and amphibolite occur as rootless tectonic boudins/lenses within the TTG (tonalite–trondhjemite–granodiorite) gneiss/metapelite, indicative of typical "block-in-matrix" texture of metamorphic-tectonic mélange. Three to four generations of metamorphic mineral assemblages that correspond to the prograde (M1), peak (M2), and retrograde (M3-M4) stages, are recognized in these rocks. Conventional geothermobarometry and phase equilibrium modeling yield peak P–T conditions of 10.8–13.8 kbar/754–799 °C for the HP mafic granulite and 7.3–9.0 kbar/690–725 °C for the supracrustal rocks, respectively. A clockwise P–T path with near-isothermal decompression (ITD) and subsequent near-isobaric cooling (IBC) segments is reconstructed for the HP mafic granulite, indicating a dynamic subduction–collision–exhumation process that unfolded during an orogenic event. Secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) U-Pb dating of zircon yields metamorphic ages of ca. 1.91–1.83 Ga, representing the long-lived tectono-metamorphic event caused by collision between the Eastern and Western Blocks along the Trans-North China Orogen. It is hypothesized that the tectono-metamorphic mélange in the area originated from the tectonically juxtaposition of metamorphic rocks that had diverse protoliths, different peak P–T conditions and discrepant metamorphic ages. This complexity may be a hallmark of Paleoproterozoic orogens, drawing intriguing parallels with the intricate characteristics observed in Phanerozoic orogenic belts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To achieve carbon neutrality and carbon reduction goals, China needs to consider industrial structure and trade. This study aims to test the validity of environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis at the industry level in China and study the different impact of Sino-US trade in intermediate goods and trade in final goods on China's environment. To do so, we used the annual data of China's 25 sectors in 1990–2015 and classified 25 sectors into three main industries. Based on the Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence and Technology framework, we investigated the validity of EKC hypothesis and the driving factors of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The results show that (1) EKC hypothesis is verified for the country and the tertiary industry. (2) Compared with the primary industry and the secondary industry, the economic growth of the tertiary industry brings less GHG emissions. (3) Intermediate goods exported to all sectors in the USA will increase GHG emissions in the country and the three main industries, but final goods exported to consumers in the USA will reduce GHG emissions except the tertiary industry. From our results, the EKC hypothesis is a suitable model for environmental policy in tertiary industry, but it does not apply to the primary industry and the secondary industry. Environmental policy in the primary industry and the secondary industry needs to focus on reducing energy intensity. In the case of exports to the USA, intermediate goods pollute the environment, while final improve the environment. Thus, China needs to increase controls on exports of intermediate goods with low added value and high pollution and gradually shift to the production of environmentally friendly final goods. Background. Thrombocytopenia was common in the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients during the infection, while the role of thrombocytopenia in COVID-19 pathogenesis and its relationship with systemic host response remained obscure. The study aimed to systematically evaluate the relationship between thrombo- cytopenia in COVID-19 patients and clinical, haematological and biochemical markers of the disease as well as adverse outcomes. Methods. To assess the relationship between abnormal platelet levels and disease progression, a multi-center retrospective cohort study was conducted. COVID-19 patients with thrombocytopenia and a sub-cohort of matched patients without thrombocytopenia were compared for their clinical manifestations, haematological disorders, biochemical parameters, inflammatory markers and clinical outcome. Results. Thrombocytopenia was present in 127 of 2,209 analyzed patients on admission. Compared with the control group, thrombocytopenia patients developed significantly higher frequency of respiratory failure (41.9% vs. 22.6%, P = 0.020), intensive care unit entrance (25.6% vs. 11.5%, P = 0.012), disseminated intravascular coagulation (45.2% vs. 10.6%, P < 0:001), more altered platelet morphology indexes and coagulation perturbation, higher levels of inflammatory markers. In addition, a significantly increased all-cause mortality (hazard ratio 3.08, 95% confidence interval 2.26-4.18, P <0.001) was also observed in the patients with thrombocytopenia. Late development of thrombocytopenia beyond 14 days post-symptom was observed in 61 patients, from whom a comparable mortality rate yet longer duration to death was observed compared to those with early thrombocytopenia. Conclusions. Our finding from this study adds to previous evidence that thrombo- cytopenia is associated with adverse outcome of the disease and recommend that platelet count and indices be included alongside other haematological, biochemical and inflammatory markers in COVID-19 patients' assessment during the hospital stay. Hybrid rice technology has been used for more than 50 years, and eating and cooking quality (ECQ) has been a major focus throughout this period. Waxy (Wx) and alkaline denaturation (ALK) genes have received attention owing to their pivotal roles in determining rice characteristics. However, despite significant effort, the ECQ of restorer lines (RLs) has changed very little. By contrast, obvious changes have been seen in inbred rice varieties (IRVs), and the ECQ of IRVs is influenced by Wx, which reduces the proportion of Wxa and increases the proportion of Wxb, leading to a decrease in amylose content (AC) and an increase in ECQ. Meanwhile, ALK is not selected in the same way. We investigated Wx alleles and AC values of sterile lines of female parents with the main mating combinations in widely used areas. The results show that almost all sterile lines were Wxa-type with a high AC, which may explain the low ECQ of hybrid rice. Analysis of hybrid rice varieties and RLs in the last 5 years revealed serious homogenisation among hybrid rice varieties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic lumbar drainage (LD) compared to therapeutic lumbar puncture (LP) for the management of intracranial hypertension (ICH) among HIV-positive patients with cryptococcal meningitis (CM). The study was a multicenter prospective non-randomized interventional clinical trial. One hundred and sixteen HIV-associated CM patients were identified who presented with ICH (≥250 mmH2O). The LP group comprised 76 cases, while the LD group consisted of 40 cases. We compared mortality, intracranial pressure (ICP) normalization rate, and clinical symptom remission at 10 weeks, between the two groups. The cumulative mortality at week 10 was 22.4% in the LP group and 20% in the LD group (p =.927), without any significant difference in mortality between the two groups. Improvement after treatment at 2-weeks, ICP normalization, and headache reversal event occurrence in the two groups showed no significant difference (p >.05). The incidence of CSF Cryptococcus clearance at two weeks in the LD group was significantly higher than in the LP group (p <.05). The frequency of invasive lumbar therapeutic procedures in the LP group during the first week was higher than that of the LD group (p <.05). Localized infection at the puncture site occurred more frequently in the LD group than in the LP group (p <.05). For HIV-positive CM patients with an elevated ICP, LD and LP are comparably effective and safe options to normalize ICP. LP increases the frequency of invasive lumbar therapeutic procedures but does not incur more risk of infection events at the puncture site, while LD may accelerate CSF Cryptococcus clearance but may induce more frequent localized infection. • Mid-Neoproterozoic phengite-bearing orthogneisses were discovered in western Yangtze. • The low-T/P metamorphism was accompanied by external melt infiltration. • The metamorphism occurred on the forearc side and via underthrusting. • Western Yangtze underwent prolonged (ca. 970–750 Ma) oceanic subduction. • Rodinia's peripheral orogenesis features alternated trench advance and retreat. Identifying long-lived subduction at the periphery of supercontinents provides insights into the processes of block assembly and dispersal within the supercontinent cycle. The Yangtze Block of South China stands as a key component during the transition from Rodinia to Gondwana, characterized by active tectono-magmatic processes throughout the early to middle Neoproterozoic. However, the lack of metamorphic records associated with accretionary orogenesis results in ambiguity about the tectonic regime and its evolution in Rodinia during this period. Here, we present evidence of low-temperature/pressure ratio (low- T/P) metamorphism in phengite-bearing orthogneisses from the western margin of the Yangtze Block (WYB). Through petrographic investigations and zircon U–Pb–Hf–O isotopic analysis in core and rim domains, we identify two distinct metamorphic rock types, with protolith ages of 1419 ± 19 Ma and 831 ± 9 Ma. Both rock types record metamorphism at ca. 830–820 Ma, accompanied by infiltration of externally-derived melts with high-δ18O and unradiogenic Hf isotopes. Our phase equilibria modeling, combined with mineral thermometry and Si -in-phengite content, shows peak metamorphic conditions of ∼550 °C and ∼8.2–8.6 kbar, corresponding to a cold geothermal gradient (19.0–20.5 °C/km). The low- T/P metamorphism is interpreted to occur either in a subduction zone accretionary wedge or in an overriding forearc continental crust, providing robust evidence for Neoproterozoic orogenesis of the WYB within a subduction framework. Based on petrological, isotopic, and paleomagnetic data, we conclude that the WYB represents part of a long-lived subduction girdle (at least ca. 970–750 Ma) at the periphery of Rodinia. Since the early stage of Rodinia breakup, this girdle was involved in alternating advance and retreat accretionary orogenesis as the Yangtze Block continuously drifted away from a mantle upwelling toward the degree-2 girdle of mantle downwelling. Revealing the origin of explosive eruptions of silica-rich magma is of paramount importance for understanding the evolution of continental crust and volcanic hazards. However, it remains controversial as to how the erupted magmas form and how they connect with plutonic realms, partly owing to the rarity and the obscurity of the 'cumulate' complementary to such eruptions of silica-rich magmas. Here the issues are explored by comparing the volcanic rocks (rhyodacite + rhyolite) and their associated subvolcanic intrusions (monzodiorite + monzonite + quartz monzonite) within Tonglu volcanic basin (SE, China). The Tonglu plutonic and volcanic units are consistent with each other in age (~130 Ma), space and source materials (e.g. Sr-Nd-Hf isotopes), strongly suggesting that they are cogenetic. Mineral mapping demonstrates that abundant plagioclase clusters (and chains in monzodiorite) occur in plutonic units, implying the processes of crystal gathering and/or accumulation. Rhyolite-MELTS modeling, and geochemical studies coupled with textural observations suggest that the Tonglu volcanic and plutonic rocks represent the residual melts and the complementary cumulate residues, respectively. The compositional and mineral variations in the plutonic rocks can be explained by two-stage, low-pressure crystal-melt separation of a dacitic magma. The monzodiorite represents the first-stage cumulate that was unsaturated in zircon and biotite/K-feldspar on the basis of low Zr and Ba concentrations and the occurrence of these two phases in the interstices between plagioclase and amphibole. The monzonite and quartz monzonite are the second-stage cumulates after saturation of zircon and biotite/K-feldspar as indicated by abrupt increases in Zr and Ba concentrations and zircon inclusions within euhedral biotite. Mass balance calculation and textural estimation indicate that the cumulates actually are a mixture of crystals and melt, containing ~40 vol% interstitial melt. Interstitial zircons from monzodiorite, largely crystallized from trapped melt, show contrasting trace-element trends (e.g. Ti, Zr/Hf, Eu/Eu*, Gd/Yb) to those of the other rock types (i.e. monzonite, quartz monzonite, rhyodacite and rhyolite), consistent with fractional crystallization (FC). We interpret these divergences to heating-induced partial dissolution of a basal crystal framework of monzodiorite due to recharges of hot mafic magmas, but the limited dissolution fails to rejuvenate the crystal mush. The Tonglu volcanic–plutonic system demonstrates that compositional distillation via crystal–liquid separation within the upper crust is an effective mechanism by which a potentially eruptible rhyolitic cap can be generated. Recharges of hot mafic magmas at shallow crustal levels may prolong the lifespan of granitic magma reservoirs. A combined study including texture, geochemistry, thermodynamic modeling and mass-balance calculations can help us identify the fingerprints of cumulates in felsic magma systems and thus track the processes responsible for producing large eruptions of silica-rich magmas. The prevalence of and risk factors for uncertainty stress among residents during the COVID-19 pandemic remain unclear. An online cross-sectional survey was conducted to explore and identify the risk factors for high perceived uncertainty stress among the general public in China during the COVID-19 outbreak. Information about the respondents' socioeconomic characteristics, knowledge of and attitudes towards COVID-19, perceived uncertainty stress, social capital, anxiety, and depressive symptoms was collected and analysed. Among the 1205 respondents, 45.3% (546) reported a high level of uncertainty stress. Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that anxiety (β=3.871,P<0.001) and depression symptoms (β=2.458, P<0.001), family residence (in towns or rural areas) (β=0.947, P<0.001), lack of support for local epidemic control strategies (β=1.253, P<0.001), worry about the pandemic (β=1.191, P<0.001), and symptoms of weakness among family members (β=1.525, P=0.002) were positively associated with perceived uncertainty stress. Cognitive social capital (β=-0.883, P<0.001) and social networks (β=-0.726, P<0.001) were negatively, but social participation (β=0.714, P<0.001) was positively associated with perceived uncertainty stress. Our findings identify factors associated with a higher level of uncertainty stress and should be helpful in the consideration of effective policies and interventions for uncertainty stress during the initial phases of public health emergencies. The study was designed to measure the seroprevalence of SFTSV antibody in healthy population residing in a high endemic region. Methods: A cohort study was performed on healthy residents in Shangcheng County in Xinyang City from April to December in 2018, where the highest SFTS incidence in China was reported. Anti-SFTSV IgG was measured by indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and neutralizing antibody (NAb) was detected by using PRNT50. The logistic regression models were performed to analyze the variables that were associated with seropositive rates. Results: Totally 886 individuals were recruited. The baseline seroprevalence that was tested before the epidemic season was 11.9% (70/587) for IgG and 6.8% (40/587) for NAb, which was increased to 13.4% (47/350) and 7.7% (27/350) during the epidemic season, and further to 15.8% (80/508) and 9.8% (50/508) post epidemic. The IgG antibody-based seropositivity was significantly related to the patients aged ≥ 70 years old [adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 2.440, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.334–4.461 compared to the group of < 50 years old, P = 0.004], recent contact with cats (adjusted OR = 2.195, 95% CI: 1.261–3.818, P = 0.005), and working in tea garden (adjusted OR = 1.698, 95% CI: 1.002–2.880, P = 0.049) by applying multivariate logistic regression model. The NAb based seropositivity was similarly related to the patients aged ≥ 70 years old (adjusted OR = 2.691, 95% CI: 1.271–5.695 compared to the group of < 50 years old, P = 0.010), and recent contact with cats (OR = 2.648, 95% CI: 1.419–4.941, P = 0.002). For a cohort of individuals continually sampled with 1-year apart, the anti-SFTSV IgG were maintained at a stable level, while the NAb level reduced. Conclusions: Subclinical infection might not provide adequate immunity to protect reinfection of SFTSV, thus highlighting the ongoing threats of SFTS in endemic regions, which called for an imperative need for vaccine development. Background: Cryptococcal meningitis (CM) remains a leading cause of death in HIV-infected patients, despite advances in CM diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. This study was performed with the aim to develop and validate a novel scoring model to predict mortality risk in HIV-infected patients with CM (HIV/CM).Methods: Data on HIV/CM inpatients were obtained from a Multicenter Cohort study in China. Independent risk factors associated with mortality were identified based on data from 2013 to 2017, and a novel scoring model for mortality risk prediction was established. The bootstrapping statistical method was used for internal validation. External validation was performed using data from 2018 to 2020.Results: We found that six predictors, including age, stiff neck, impaired consciousness, intracranial pressure, CD4+ T-cell count, and urea levels, were associated with poor prognosis in HIV/CM patients. The novel scoring model could effectively identify HIV/CM patients at high risk of death on admission (area under curve 0.876; p<0.001). When the cut-off value of 5.5 points or more was applied, the sensitivity and specificity was 74.1 and 83.8%, respectively. Our scoring model showed a good discriminatory ability, with an area under the curve of 0.879 for internal validation via bootstrapping, and an area under the curve of 0.886 for external validation.Conclusions: Our developed scoring model of six variables is simple, convenient, and accurate for screening high-risk patients with HIV/CM, which may be a useful tool for physicians to assess prognosis in HIV/CM inpatients. Organic macerals are the basic components of organic matter and play an important role in determining the hydrocarbon generation capacity of source rock. In this paper, organic geochemical analysis of shale in the Chang 7 member of the Yanchang Formation was carried out to evaluate the availability of source rock. The different organic macerals were effectively identified, and the differences in hydrocarbon generation and pore-forming capacities were discussed from two perspectives: microscopic pore development and macroscopic hydrocarbon generation through field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and energy-dispersive spectrum (EDS) analyses, methane isotherm adsorption, and on-site analysis of gas-bearing properties. The results show that the source rock of the Chang 7 member has a high abundance of organic matter and moderate thermal evolution and that the organic matter type is mainly type I. Based on the morphology of the organic matter and the element and pore development, four types of hydrogen-rich macerals, including sapropelite and exinite, and hydrogen-poor macerals, including vitrinite and inertinite, as well as the submacerals, algae, mineral asphalt matrix, sporophyte, resin, semifusinite, inertodetrinite, provitrinite, euvitrinite, and vitrodetrinite, can be identified through FE-SEM and EDS. A large number of honeycomb-shaped pores develop in sapropelite, and round-elliptical stomata develop in exinite, while vitrinite and inertinite do not develop organic matter pores. The hydrogen-rich maceral is the main component of organic macerals in the Chang 7 member of the Yanchang Formation. The weight percentage of carbon is low, so it has good hydrocarbon generation capacity, and the organic matter pores are developed and contribute 97% of the organic matter porosity, which is conducive to hydrocarbon generation and storage. The amount of hydrogen-poor maceral is low, and the weight percentage of carbon is low, and the organic matter pores are not developed, which is not conducive to hydrocarbon generation and storage. Objective: To investigate the prevalence of sleep quality and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms of healthcare workers (HCWs) and identify the determinants for PTSD symptoms among HCWs in high-risk and low-risk areas during the COVID-19 outbreak in China. Methods: The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the Impact of Event Scale were used to assess sleep quality and symptoms of PTSD of 421 Chinese HCWs, respectively, from January 30 to March 2, 2020. The influencing factors of PTSD symptoms were identified by univariate analysis and multiple regression. Results: The incidence of HCWs getting PTSD symptoms were 13.2%. HCWs from high-risk areas had significantly poorer sleep quality (p < 0.001). Poor sleep quality was the risk factor of PTSD symptoms for HCWs from high-risk (p = 0.018) and low-risk areas (p < 0.001). Furthermore, non-medical staff were found to be the risk factor for PTSD symptoms only in low-risk areas. Discussion: HCWs in Hubei had poorer sleep quality. Non-medical HCWs from low-risk areas were associated with more severe PTSD symptoms. Mental health programs should be considered for HCWs, especially those who are often overlooked. Background: The health burden of breast cancer is rising in China. The effect of informed diagnosis on long-term survival is not fully understood. This retrospective cohort study aims to explore the association between early informed diagnosis and survival time in breast cancer patients.Methods: A total of 12,327 breast cancer patients were enrolled between October 2002 and December 2016. Potential factors, including knowing the cancer diagnosis status, sex, age, clinical stage, surgery history, grade of reporting hospital and diagnostic year were, analyzed. We followed up all participants every 6 months until June 2017. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to balance the clinicopathologic characteristics between patients who knew their diagnosis and those who did not.Results: By June 2017, 18.04% of the participants died of breast cancer. Before PSM, both the 3-year and 5-year survival rates of patients who knew their cancer diagnosis were longer (P < 0.001). After PSM, the above conclusion was still established. By stratified analysis, except for the subgroups of male patients and stage III patients, patients who knew their diagnosis showed a better prognosis in all the other subgroups (P < 0.05). Cox regression analysis showed that knowing a cancer diagnosis was an independent risk factor for survival in breast cancer patients (P < 0.001).Conclusions: Being aware of their cancer diagnosis plays a protective role in extending the survival time of breast cancer patients, which suggests that medical staff and patients' families should disclose the cancer diagnosis to patients in a timely manner. As a particularly vulnerable group, children from rural areas in China whose families migrate to urban areas often encounter social exclusion, prejudice, and discrimination as they adjust to city life. Hence, migrant children may experience a sense of relative deprivation when they feel they are treated unjustly when compared to their urban counterparts. Although previous research has demonstrated that relative deprivation is a risk factor for prosocial tendencies, this association has not yet been examined in the population of migrant children in China. Further, few studies have revealed the mediating and moderating mechanisms between relative deprivation and prosocial tendencies. Therefore, this study constructed an integrated model examining the possible mediating role of perceived social support and moderating role of in-group identity on the association between relative deprivation and prosocial tendencies. A large sample of 1,630 Chinese rural-to-urban migrant children (845 girls; M age = 12.30, SD = 1.74) completed a battery of self-report questionnaires regarding relative deprivation, prosocial tendencies, perceived social support, in-group identity, and demographic variables. The results indicated that relative deprivation was negatively correlated with migrant children's prosocial tendencies and this connection was partially mediated by perceived social support. Moderated mediation analysis further indicated that in-group identity moderated the effect of perceived social support on prosocial tendencies, with a high level of in-group identity strengthening the positive association between perceived social support and prosocial tendencies. Parents, educators, and other members of society concerned about migrant children's psychosocial adaptation should provide adequate social support resources and help them foster positive in-group identity to migrant populations to mitigate the adverse effects of relative deprivation and promote their prosocial tendencies. Purpose: Mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) is a simple, noninvasive anthropometric indicator. This study evaluated the applicability of MUAC as an alternative screening instrument to appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI) for detecting sarcopenia, and determined the optimal MUAC cutoff values. Patients and Methods: A total of 4509 subjects ≥ 50 years of age from the West China Health and Aging Trend study were included in the present study. ASM was measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis. MUAC, calf circumference (CC), and grip strength were evaluated and the Short Physical Performance Battery and 3-m timed up-and-go test were administered. Low muscle mass was diagnosed based on Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 (AWGS2019) and updated European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People 2 (EWGSOP2) criteria. Results: ASMI was positively correlated with MUAC in both men (r=0.726, P< 0.001) and women (r=0.698, P< 0.001). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for MUAC as an indicator of low muscle mass in men and women was 0.86 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.85– 0.88) and 0.85 (95% CI: 0.84– 0.86), respectively, according to AWGS2019 criteria; and 0.86 (95% CI: 0.85– 0.88) and 0.86 (95% CI: 0.85– 0.88), respectively, according to EWGSOP2 criteria. Optimal MUAC cutoff values for predicting low muscle mass were ≤ 28.6 cm for men and ≤ 27.5 cm for women. There was no significant difference between the AUCs of MUAC and CC in men according to the 2 reference standards (P=0.809), whereas the AUC of CC was superior to that of MUAC in women according to AWGS2019 (P< 0.001) and EWGSOP2 (P=0.008) criteria. Conclusion: MUAC is strongly correlated with ASMI among community-dwelling middle-aged and older adults in China. Background: The pine wood nematode (PWN), Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, is a devastating pathogen of many Pinus species in China. The aim of this study was to understand the interactive molecular mechanism of PWN and its host by comparing differentially expressed genes and candidate effectors from three transcriptomes of B. xylophilus at different infection stages. Results: In total, 62, 69 and 46 candidate effectors were identified in three transcriptomes (2.5 h postinfection, 6, 12 and 24 h postinoculation and 6 and 15 d postinfection, respectively). In addition to uncharacterized pioneers, other candidate effectors were involved in the degradation of host tissues, suppression of host defenses, targeting plant signaling pathways, feeding and detoxification, which helped B. xylophilus survive successfully in the host. Seven candidate effectors were identified in both our study and the B. xylophilus transcriptome at 2.5 h postinfection, and one candidate effector was identified in all three transcriptomes. These common candidate effectors were upregulated at infection stages, and one of them suppressed pathogen-associated molecular pattern (PAMP) PsXEG1-triggered cell death in Nicotiana benthamiana. Conclusions: The results indicated that B. xylophilus secreted various candidate effectors, and some of them continued to function throughout all infection stages. These various candidate effectors were important to B. xylophilus infection and survival, and they functioned in different ways (such as breaking down host cell walls, suppressing host defenses, promoting feeding efficiency, promoting detoxification and playing virulence functions). Objective: To assess the trends in characteristics, treatments, and outcomes of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients in tertiary Chinese medicine (CM) hospitals in China between 2006 and 2013. Methods: This retrospective study was based on two nationwide epidemiological surveys of AMI in tertiary CM hospitals during 2 years (2006 and 2013). Patients admitted to the hospital for AMI were enrolled. Hospital records were used as the data source. Case data were derived regarding baseline characteristics, treatments, and outcomes of patients to assess changes from 2006 to 2013. Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between prognosis, general influencing factors of disease, and various treatment measures. Results: Totally 26 tertiary CM hospitals in 2006 and 29 tertiary CM hospitals in 2013 (18 were repetitive) were surveyed. A total of 2,311 patients with AMI were enrolled (1,094 cases in 2006 and 1,217 cases in 2013). From 2006 to 2013, the mean age did not significantly change, but the proportion of patients younger than 65 years increased. The prevalence of risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia also increased. Significant increases were observed in primary percutaneous coronary intervention [20.48% (2006) vs. 24.90% (2013)] and revascularization [36.11% (2006) vs. 52.42% (2013)]. In-hospital mortality decreased from 11.15% in 2006 to 10.60% in 2013. A mortality logistic regression analysis identified reperfusion therapy [odds ratio (OR), 0.222; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.106–0.464], Chinese patent medicines (OR, 0.394; 95% CI, 0.213–0.727), and CM decoctions (OR, 0.196; 95% CI, 0.109–0.353) as protective factors. Conclusion: Reperfusion and revascularization capabilities of tertiary CM hospitals have improved significantly, but in-hospital mortality has not significantly decreased. Zircon oxygen isotope compositions can provide potential constraints on the origin of granitic magmas. In this work, we report new data of zircon U Pb dating, trace elements and Hf O isotopes for two types of mid-Cretaceous high-silica granites from Zhoushan archipelago in Zhejiang Province, SE China. The in-situ zircon data are carefully screened for radiation damage and post-magmatic alteration. The analyzed magmatic zircon grains indicate that the Zhoushan calc-alkaline granites (ZCAG; 101–92 Ma) have mantle-like δ18O values of 5.29–5.88 ‰, in contrast to the Zhoushan peralkaline granites (ZPAG; 91–89 Ma) with relatively low δ18O of 4.42–4.6 ‰. The slight decreases in δ18O and ε Hf (t) from zircon center to periphery of both groups suggest that they may have consistent oxygen isotopic compositions in their parental magma sources and have gone through assimilations to hydrothermally altered wall rocks in the shallow crust. The mantle-like δ18O values in zircon are widespread in the Cretaceous felsic rocks in the present coastal area of SE China, which, in combination Hf isotopes, indicates the possible existence of a buried unweathered Proterozoic basement in the eastern part of the Cathaysia Block. This work highlights the role of deep crustal magma sources, assimilation and post-magmatic radioactive damage on the formation of mantle-like to low δ18O signals in zircons, and has fundamental implications for understanding the formation of widespread mid-Cretaceous felsic rocks along the present coastal area of SE China. Background: Cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMVR) is an important opportunistic infection (OI) occurring mainly in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and has the potential to cause severe visual impairment and blindness among AIDS patients. Subsequent to the adoption and implementation of widespread antiretroviral therapy (ART), the prognosis of AIDS-associated CMVR has been substantially improved. Nevertheless, the equivocal clinical evidence as regards the optimal timing for ART initiation in patients with an established CMVR diagnosis is required. We therefore designed the present study in order to investigate the optimal timing for ART initiation in AIDS/CMVR patients.Methods: This will be a prospective, randomized controlled trial to be performed at 17 hospitals in mainland China. A total of 300 participants with CMVR will be randomly assigned to an early ART initiation group (ART initiation within 2 weeks after anti-CMV therapy), or a deferred ART initiation group (initiation of ART more than 2 weeks after anti-CMV therapy) at a 1:1 ratio. All participants will receive 48 weeks of follow-up after anti-CMV therapy initiation. Our primary outcome will be the incidence of visual loss (to a visual acuity worse than 20/40 or 20/200) in the two groups during the 48-week follow-up period. Secondary outcomes will include changes in HIV virological suppression and serum CD4+ T-cell counts, the incidence of mortality, retinitis progression (movement of the peripheral border of a CMV lesion ≥ ½ disc diameter, or occurrence of a new CMV lesion), retinal detachment, immune recovery uveitis (IRU), and other OIs and adverse events between the two study groups during the 48 weeks of follow-up.Discussion: The study aims to investigate the optimal timing for ART initiation in AIDS/CMVR patients. Objective To investigate the clinical value of intraoperative ultrasound and endoscopy technique on the surgery of spontaneous intracerebral hematoma. Methods A total of 17 patients who underwent ultrasound - guided endoscopic evacuation of spontaneous intracerebral hematoma from October 2016 to October 2019 in Department of Neurosurgery of the First Medical Center of PLA General Hospital and Hainan Hospital were selected. All hematomas were located by ultrasound during operation. At the same time, feedback the degree of hematoma clearance and calculate the hematoma removal rate. Record ultrasound and endoscopy - related complications or adverse events. Use Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) to evaluate postoperative neurological function improvement. Results Intraoperative ultrasound and endoscopic technique were conducted in all 17 patients with a success rate of 100%, and no ultrasound and endoscopic-related complications or adverse events occurred. In all cases, endoscopic working sheath was once accurately introduced into the center of hematoma. Preoperative median volume of hematoma was 44.40 (31.20, 54.35) ml, and postoperative median volume was 3.00 (1.80, 5.10) ml, and the extent of hematoma removal rate was 94.01% (87.11, 96.08)%. Preoperative median KPS score was 20 (15, 30), and median KPS score was 40 (35, 50) 2 weeks after operation, which was significantly improved (Z = - 3.671, P = 0.000). Conclusions These results suggest that intraoperative ultrasound-guided endoscopic surgery is a safe and feasible surgical modality for spontaneous intracerebral hematoma. This combined technique may help to localize the hematoma more accurately, enhance the extent of hematoma removal, and reduce complications and facilitate neurological recovery. Huang-lian (Coptis plants in China) are essential medicinal plants in China, C. chinensis var. chinensis and C. deltoidea have been domesticated and cultivated for 700 years. In this study, the genetic diversity patterns and biogeographical information of cultivated Huang-lian and their wild relatives Coptis species were assessed using three plastids DNA regions. A total of 186 individuals from twenty-seven populations representing two species of cultivated Huang-lian and four species of wild relatives were collected and analyzed. Twenty-four haplotypes of six species were identified when three plastid spacers were combined. Historical biogeography inference revealed multiple dispersal events in the groups of cultivated Huang-lian and C. omeiensis. This evidence can infer that large initial population size and interbreeding with co-existing wild relatives in expanding new planting areas might be the main reason for maintaining the high genetic diversity of cultivated Huang-lian. Nevertheless, the multimodal curve of mismatch analysis and positive or negative differed among species and populations by neutrality tests indicated some groups of cultivated Huang-lian experienced genetic bottlenecks. Phylogeny analysis (NJ, MP, BI) showed that cultivated Huang-lian and C. omeiensis were clustered into a monophyletic group while C. chinensis var. brevisepala was paraphyletic, having earlier divergence time from C. chinensis var. chinensis (7.6 Ma) than C. omeiensis. Parsimony network demonstrated that C. deltoidea had more shared haplotypes with C. omeiensis than C. chinensis var. chinensis , and other haplotypes of C. deltoidea and C. omeiensis had less mutation steps than that of C. chinensis var. chinensis and C. omeiensis. This evidence suggests that C. omeiensis has a closer relationship with cultivated Huang-lian and might be a potential wild relative to C. deltoidea. The results reported here provide the baseline data for preserving genetic resources of Huang-lian and also evaluating the genetic impacts of long-term cultivation on medicinal plants, which could be instructive to future cultivation projects of traditional Chinese medicinal plants. Bluetongue is one of the most important vector-borne viral diseases that can lead to significant economic losses as a result of reduction of productivity and even death in some susceptible ruminants. However, epidemiological information on bluetongue virus (BTV) infection in cattle and goats is scarce in China. To determine the seropositive rate and risk factors of BTV infection in cattle and goats in Guangxi province, a subtropical region in Southern China, a total of 548 cattle serum samples and 6567 goat serum samples collected from 13 cities across Guangxi province during 2003–2015 were analyzed and found that the seroprevalence is 44.5% (244/548) in cattle and 28.0% (1837/6567) in goats and the main BTV serotypes are BTV-1, -2, -4, and -8. Climatic zone, age, and species are found to be the likely risk factors for BTV infection. Pollution due to heavy metals is a serious global environmental problem, particularly in China. It is thus important to study the effects of heavy metal pollution, especially in mining areas. Cadmium(Cd) and lead(Pb) severely damage the microbial life in soil. The concentration of heavy metals and their toxic effects on microbes and enzymes in soil were examined in this study using contaminated soil samples. The Biolog method was used to analyze the characteristics of the microbial community. The results showed that the addition of Cd2+ and Pb2+ in different concentrations has a significant impact on microbial and enzyme activity in soil. With an increase in their concentrations, activities of the microbial community and enzymes decreased gradually. Each index related to the structure of the microbial community in soil decreased, indicating that pollution due to Cd and Pb reduced its size and functional activity. This study provides a reference for future research on the functional diversity of the microbial community in soil and plays its role in their environmental management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To investigate the effect of image quality of coronary CT angiography (CCTA) on the diagnostic performance of a machine learning-based CT-derived fractional flow reserve (FFRCT).Methods: This nationwide retrospective study enrolled participants from 10 individual centers across China. FFRCT analysis was performed in 570 vessels in 437 patients. Invasive FFR and FFRCT values ≤ 0.80 were considered ischemia-specific. Four-score subjective assessment based on image quality and objective measurement of vessel enhancement was performed on a per-vessel basis. The effects of body mass index (BMI), sex, heart rate, and coronary calcium score on the diagnostic performance of FFRCT were studied.Results: Among 570 vessels, 216 were considered ischemia-specific by invasive FFR and 198 by FFRCT. Sensitivity and specificity of FFRCT for detecting lesion-specific ischemia were 0.82 and 0.93, respectively. Area under the curve (AUC) of high-quality images (0.93, n = 159) was found to be superior to low-quality images (0.80, n = 92, p = 0.02). Objective image quality and heart rate were also associated with diagnostic performance of FFRCT, whereas there was no statistical difference in diagnostic performance among different BMI, sex, and calcium score groups (all p > 0.05, Bonferroni correction).Conclusions: This retrospective multicenter study supported the FFRCT as a noninvasive test in evaluating lesion-specific ischemia. Objective: As a malignant tumor with high mortality, lung cancer (LC) often causes great trauma to patients, and a series of negative emotions and a heavy psychological burden accompanies poor prognosis. Whether or not to inform the patients of their condition has always been a controversial topic in the medical community. This retrospective cohort study investigated the association between early informed diagnosis and survival time in patients with LC.Methods: A total of 29 825 patients with LC were enrolled between October 2002 and December 2016. The potential factors influencing LC survival were registered, including knowing their cancer diagnosis status, age, gender, pathological type, clinical stage, surgical history, hospital grade, and patient occupation. All participants were followed up every 6 months until June 2017.Results: In June 2017, 23.1% of the participants still survived. Their median survival time (MST) was 11.20 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 10.98-11.43). Generally, patients that knew their cancer diagnosis had longer MST than those who did not (18.33 months vs 8.77 months, P < .001). By stratified analysis, patients that knew their cancer diagnosis had longer survival time in each subgroup (P < .001, all subgroups). Cox regression analysis showed that knowing their cancer diagnosis was an independent influencing factor for survival in patients with LC (hazard ratio, 0.826; 95% CI, 0.802-0.851; P < .001).Conclusions: Knowing their cancer diagnosis contributed to longer survival time in patients with LC, providing clear evidence that medical staff and patients' families should fully disclose cancer diagnoses to patients. A Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped bacterial strain JS15-10A1T was isolated from oil production water. Its optimum growth was observed at 37 °C, pH 7.0, and 3% (w/v) NaCl. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain JS15-10A1T showed the highest similarities with Pseudomonas parafulva CB-1T (97.6%) and P. fulva IAM 1529T (97.5%). In addition, phylogenetic analyses based on multilocus sequence analyses with concatenating 16S rRNA, gyrB, rpoD, and rpoB genes indicated that strain JS15-10A1T was a member of genus Pseudomonas but discriminated from other species. Furthermore, whole-genome analyses revealed that average nucleotide identities and in silico DNA-DNA hybridization values of strain JS15-10A1T against its closest relatives were all below 76.7% and 21.1%, respectively. The major cellular fatty acids of strain JS15-10A1T were summed feature 8 (C18:1ω7c/C18:1ω6c), C16:0, C12:0, C17:0 cyclo, summed feature 3 (C16:1ω7c/C16:1ω6c), C12:0 3-OH, C10:0 3-OH, and C19:0 cyclo ω8c. The predominant quinone was ubiquinone Q-9. The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, an unknown amino-lipid, and two unidentified lipids. The genome DNA G + C content was 60.0 mol%. On the basis of phylogenetic, phenotypic, physiological, and chemotaxonomic analyses, it can be concluded that strain JS15-10A1T represents a novel species in genus Pseudomonas, for which the name Pseudomonas jilinensis sp. nov. is proposed. Background: Trichinella nematodes are globally distributed food-borne pathogens, in which Trichinella spiralis is the most common species in China. Microsatellites are a powerful tool in population genetics and phylogeographic analysis. However, only a few microsatellite markers were reported in T. spiralis. Thus, there is a need to develop and validate genome-wide microsatellite markers for T. spiralis. Methods: Microsatellites were selected from shotgun genomic sequences using MIcroSAtellite identification tool (MISA). The identified markers were validated in 12 isolates of T. spiralis in China. Results: A total of 93,140 microsatellites were identified by MISA from 9267 contigs in T. spiralis genome sequences, in which 16 polymorphic loci were selected for validation by PCR with single larvae from 12 isolates of T. spiralis in China. There were 7–19 alleles per locus (average 11.25 alleles per locus). The observed heterozygosity (HO) and expected heterozygosity (HE) ranged from 0.325 to 0.750 and 0.737 to 0.918, respectively. The polymorphism information content (PIC) ranged from 0.719 to 0.978 (average 0.826). Among the 16 loci, markers for 10 loci could be amplified from all 12 international standard strains of Trichinella spp. Conclusions: Sixteen highly polymorphic markers were selected and validated for T. spiralis. Aim: To examine the associations between female menstrual or reproductive factors and the development of systemic sclerosis (SSc) in China. Methods: In this hospital‐based case‐control study, for each subject, data on reproductive and menstrual factors such as number of births, abortions, and age at menarche were obtained by structured questionnaire. Risk estimates, measured by the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI), were obtained by unconditional logistics regression. Furthermore, meta‐analysis was performed and pooled OR with 95% CI for the number of pregnancies and abortions were calculated. Results: There were 166 SSc and 392 female controls seen during the study period. The results showed women with late menarche age (≥17 years) were less likely than those with earlier age at menarche to develop SSc (OR 0.347, 95% CI 0.174‐0.693) and compared with women without abortion, women with abortion (1 time) were at reduced risk of developing SSc (P = .036). After adjusting for potential confounders such as occupation and body mass index (BMI), late age at menarche (≥17 years) was associated with a decreased risk of SSc (OR 0.187, 95% CI 0.068‐0.513), but abortions were not significantly related to SSc. The meta‐analysis revealed there was no association between SSc and abortions or number of pregnancies. No significant publication bias was observed (P > .05). Conclusion: Late age at menarche was associated with a reduced risk of SSc but abortion may not be an independent risk factor for SSc. Further investigations are required to verify our findings. Background: To assay the Trichinella-specific IgM and IgG antibody responses during the early stage of infection, serum was collected from mice infected with the muscle larvae (ML) of T. spiralis (ISS534) at different dpi (days post infection) up to 60 days. Methods: The levels of IgM and IgG antibodies in serum were measured by ES antigens from different stage of T. spiralis using the ELISA method in Shanghai, China in 2017. Results: The anti-Trichinella IgM and IgG could be detected by ES antigens from the adult three days worm (Ad3) as early as 5 dpi and 8 dpi, respectively. ES antigens from the mixture of adult six days worm & new born larvae (Ad6+NBL) was similar to Ad3. When antibodies were detected by these two antigens, the levels of IgM peaked at 14 dpi and then declined from 15 dpi to 60 dpi; the IgG peaked at 20 dpi, and gradually declined, however, higher detection levels were maintained until 60 dpi. Conclusion: Ad3 ES antigens showed more antigenicity than Ad6+NBL ES on titer detection of IgM and IgG antibodies, and the production of Ad3 ES is easier. In terms of early diagnosis, these two antigens are better than the ML ES antigens of T. spiralis, which antibodies could not be detected before 20dpi. This report aims to summarize key concerns regarding customized devices and conditional approval during the premarket evaluation of bone implants, and to explore the correlation between them. Based on the experience of approval of the first domestic custom‐designed bone implant, we consider the process of gaining conditional approval for urgently‐needed medical devices and medical devices for rare diseases, as well as the guidance available for clinical investigation. We also streamlined the scientifically administrative concept of this unique device, from the design and development of premarket technical evaluation to continuous post‐market study. The present study found that those two aspects have certain connections, but they are not directly correlated to each other. In contrast to the USA, Canada, Australia and the EU, where regulations and guidelines have been established for the use of customized devices, in this regard, China is still it its infancy. Thus, there is considerable potential for China to develop and perfect the policies relating to customized devices and to develop relevant strategies to ensure their efficacy with the aid of conditional approval. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate self-perceived participation and autonomy in patients with burns in Fujian, China, and to identify key factors influencing these parameters.Methods: We investigated 212 patients admitted to the burns unit 1 and 3months after discharge using the Impact on Participation and Autonomy (IPA), Acceptance of Disability Scale-Revised, Herth Hope Index, Modified Barthel Index Rating Scale, Visual Analogue Scale, and a self-designed demographic data and disease condition questionnaires. Influencing factors were identified using multivariable linear regression.Results: The general IPA questionnaire scores were 2.13±0.74 and 2.03±0.72 at 1 and 3months post-discharge, respectively. Acceptance of disability, hope, and social participation were significantly correlated (P<0.01). Financial situation, pain level, activities of daily living, acceptance of disability, and hope were major factors affecting self-perceived participation and autonomy 3months post-discharge, accounting for a variance of 77.5%.Conclusion: Medium-to-low levels of self-perceived participation and autonomy were observed 1 and 3months post-discharge. Clinicians should adopt specific measures to help patients (including those from poor economic backgrounds) successfully reintegrate into their families/societies. Mafic magmatic differentiation is an important mechanism to drive Fe-Ti enrichments in melt and final formation of layered Fe-Ti-(V) oxide deposits, but how the differentiation operates and how the state of magmatic reservoirs controls differential metallogenic potential are unclear. The Xialan magmatic complex in northern Guangdong Province is the only complex hosting layered Fe-Ti (V) deposits in Southeast China and the formation of such oxide deposits is not addressed in detail. Here, we present an integrated study of geochronology, mineral geochemistry, whole-rock major and trace elements, as well as Sr-Nd-Pb isotopes, on the mafic rocks associated with the Xialan layered Fe-Ti (V) oxide deposits. The investigated mafic rocks are cogenetic and can be classified into three types according to field and textural features: diabase, Fe-Ti rich gabbro, and Fe-Ti barren gabbro. Based on petrographic observation and major and trace element geochemistry, the gabbros and diabases represent cumulates and residual melts, respectively. However, the Fe-Ti rich gabbros show different Nd isotopes from the other rocks, which indicates an open-system differentiation for the Xialan parental magma. A two-stage evolution process for the Xialan parental magma before the final crystallization fractionation to form the oxide deposits is further proposed based on MELTs modeling results and the characters of mineral assemblages. At the early stage, the magmas started differentiation with 0.5 wt% initial H 2 O content and moderate oxygen fugacity (△FMQ = ca. + 0.5 – +1.5) at 5 kbar and generated Fe-Ti enriched melts. At the later stage, the Fe-Ti rich melts gradually evolved to a much higher H 2 O content (>3 wt%), which stabilized the Fe-Ti oxides and hornblendes. Wall-rock assimilation during the late-stage magma evolution is suggested to be the key factor to elevate the H 2 O contents and oxygen fugacity of the magma which finally produced the layered Fe-Ti oxides. As such, this study demonstrates that open-system differentiation of mafic magmas can play a key role in the final generation of some hornblende-bearing layered Fe-Ti oxide deposits. The genesis of peralkaline granites has fundamental implications for understanding their source characters and tectonic settings, yet it remains highly controversial after decades of research. Two major challenges in studies of peralkaline granites are how the peralkaline magmas evolve and how to trace their magmatic evolution. Here we use K isotopes in granites from Zhoushan archipelago of southeast China to explore these two issues. The Zhoushan archipelago hosts two groups of Cretaceous high-silica granites, which are the peralkaline rocks (PAG) and the calc-alkaline rocks (CAG). The CAG rocks exhibit a small variation (δ41K = −0.54 ± 0.06 ‰ to −0.36 ± 0.06 ‰) in K isotopic compositions, in contrast to the larger variation for the PAG rocks (δ41K = −0.67 ± 0.07 ‰ to −0.27 ± 0.05 ‰). The PAG rocks show strong correlations between δ41K values and various whole-rock major elements (i.e., Al 2 O 3 , Na 2 O, and K 2 O contents), but these correlations are absent for the CAG rocks. We propose that the separation of Na-rich alkali-feldspar, rather than low-Na alkali-feldspar and/or plagioclase, controlled the K isotope variability in PAG. The alkali-feldspar in PAG is enriched in Na, among which the alkali-feldspar with Or (orthoclase; mol. %) <15 is characterized by high δ41K ranging from −0.34 ‰ to 0.36 ‰. Geochemical modeling demonstrates that 23–33 % fractional crystallization of such Na-rich alkali-feldspar is required to generate the geochemical trends observed in PAG. Those findings suggest that crystallization of Na-rich alkali-feldspars dominates the magma evolution for peralkaline magmatism, supporting strong fractional crystallization in high-silica peralkaline magma. Land use is the main factor that influences catchment hydrologic processes, and a better understanding of its effect is important for future land use planning and water resource management. By applying the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT), we assessed the effects of land use changes on major hydrologic processes (evapotranspiration (ET), discharge, river) on a large plain irrigation district, the Hetao Irrigation District (HID), China. The results indicated that SWAT was a useful tool for simulating the effects of land use changes on regional hydrologic processes. Human activities were the main factors that directly influenced land use in the HID. Land use changes had important impacts on the hydrologic processes of the HID. During 1995-2010, the land use changed greatly in the HID, leading to the changes in ET and discharge. The peak value of ET coincided with the exuberant crop growth period in the maximized sown crop area. In 1995s, wheat maximized the sown area and ET peaked in June; when sunflower and corn maximized the sown area in 2010s, ET peaked in July and August. The increased ET reduced discharge in the same period in the HID. Land use change affected the period and quantity of water diversion in the irrigation district. The quantity of water diverted in 1995 was greater than that in 2010, indicating that land use change significantly impacted the water quantity of the river, which was the water source of the irrigation district. The South Anhui ophiolite (SAO) and the Northeast Jiangxi ophiolite (NJO) are the only two known Precambrian ophiolite suites within the eastern segment of the Jiangnan Orogen, South China. These ophiolites may provide significant insights into the convergence history of the South China Block during the Rodinia supercontinent cycle. SHRIMP zircon U–Pb dating indicates that the SAO formed at 831 ± 5 Ma whereas the NJO formed at ca. 1000 Ma. Modal mineral assemblages and the preservation of relict primary mineral assemblages indicate that serpentinized peridotites from both ophiolites were mainly harzburgite in protolith. Relict olivine and orthopyroxene fragments within both ophiolite suites yield similarly high Mg# values. The serpentinized peridotite samples yield U-shaped rare earth element patterns and contain high-Cr# spinel, both of which are indicative of supra-subduction zone ophiolites. However, serpentinized peridotites within the SAO contain olivine and clinopyroxene with slightly higher Mg# values, and have lower platinum-group element (PGE) and trace element concentrations than peridotites from the NJO. The SAO peridotites are also depleted in Ir, Pt, and Pd, in contrast to the flat and chondrite-like PGE patterns of the NJO peridotites. These observations indicate that compared with the NJO, SAO peridotites were subjected to a greater degree of melt extraction prior to emplacement. Furthermore, gabbro and basalt from the SAO have N-MORB- or arc-like geochemical characteristics that reflect the incorporation of crustal materials into the mantle source, suggesting that this ophiolite formed in a continental marginal back-arc basin setting. In comparison, the less pronounced depletions in trace elements and PGEs, as well as the restricted 187 Os/ 188 Os isotopic compositions of NJO serpentinized peridotites, suggest that they formed in a fore-arc setting. The contrasting geochemical characteristics of the two ophiolite suites indicate that they were generated during distinct stages of convergence along the southeastern margin of the Yangtze Block. Our results show that ophiolite suites produced within a single orogenic cycle could preserve diverse geochemical characteristics, and may provide insights into the initiation and cessation of continental amalgamation. The mean seismic probability risk model has widely been used in seismic design and safety evaluation of critical infrastructures. In this paper, the confidence levels analysis and error equations derivation of the mean seismic probability risk model are conducted. It has been found that the confidence levels and error values of the mean seismic probability risk model are changed for different sites and that the confidence levels are low and the error values are large for most sites. Meanwhile, the confidence levels of ASCE/SEI 43-05 design parameters are analyzed and the error equation of achieved performance probabilities based on ASCE/SEI 43-05 is also obtained. It is found that the confidence levels for design results obtained using ASCE/SEI 43-05 criteria are not high, which are less than 95%, while the high confidence level of the uniform risk could not be achieved using ASCE/SEI 43-05 criteria and the error values between risk model with target confidence level and mean risk model using ASCE/SEI 43-05 criteria are large for some sites. In this paper, premature failure of the O-ring gaskets for the electric hydraulic system in a nuclear power plant in China was investigated. A series of macroscopic and microscopic analysis methods were conducted to identify the root causes of this unexpected failure, and the results showed that mismatch of the sizes between the O-ring gaskets and the groove of metal union was the primary reason, which gave rise to the permanent distortion and surface damage of the O-ring gaskets, and consequently leading to fracture under service conditions. The high speed railway, which acts as a safer and faster means of transportation, has grown rapidly around the world, especially in China. Meanwhile, the vibration induced by high-speed train (HST) arouses increasing concerns and cannot be ignored. This paper describes ground vibrations with three dimensional models formulated in the time domain using the finite element method (FEM). Absorbing boundaries and Rayleigh damping approach are used to prevent wave reflections from the artificial edges and to simulate the material damping, respectively. Investigations of ground vibration caused by unit load under different speeds and frequencies are given. An inclined classification of ground vibration and the sensitive frequency ranges of surface ground are then found. Moreover, the effects of subgrade treatment and sub-soil treatment on vibration isolation are discussed. It concludes that due to the attenuation effects of subgrade structures on high frequency range, noticeable reductions can be obtained in surface ground vibration. And when a high subgrade or a composite one is applied, the effects are better. The depth of sub-soil treatment would have more positive influence on ground vibration isolation and costs relatively less, compared with its replacement ratio and width. Rapid economic growth in Northwest China has been accompanied by a dramatic increase in carbon emissions. Based on the two-level Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) method, this study decomposes changes in energy-related carbon emissions in Northwest China during 1995-2012 from the regional and provincial perspectives. Further, by constructing an expanded decomposition model of the decoupling index, this paper quantitatively analyzes delinking indicators of economic activity and environmental pressure in Northwest China. The results indicate that: (1) at both regional and provincial levels, economic activity effects play a crucial role in increasing carbon emissions, whereas improvements of energy efficiency appear as the main factor in curbing carbon missions; (2) the significance of influencing factors of CO2 emissions varies across provinces. The role of economic activity in Shannxi is more pronounced compared to that of the other four provinces, as well as the role of population in Xinjiang; (3) when the decoupling relationship is considered, "relative decoupling" and "no decoupling" are the main characteristics under investigation during the examined period. Whereas "strong decoupling" was only identified in 2007 and 2009; (4) the current extensive pattern of economic growth in Northwest China poses a serious threat to the decoupling process.
