While social networking sites (SNSs) have attracted growing scholarly interest in uncovering L2 learners' participation within these sites, the impact of writing on SNSs upon students' writing performance and learner autonomy remains underexplored. This study reported on a college EFL writing course participated by two groups of Chinese first-year English majors at a university in Southeast China. The students were arranged randomly into an experimental group enrolled in a writing on WeChat Moments program (n = 25) and a control group in a traditional English writing class (n = 25). Both groups took part in the pre- and post- writing tests and completed questionnaires. The results revealed that the participants in the experimental group achieved better writing performance, with higher levels of learner autonomy than those in the control group. The findings call for attention to the significance of WeChat as one SNS in rendering richer exposure to the target language resources and constructing an interactive environment of learning and social communication for L2 writers.

Key Points: Question: Is tenecteplase noninferior to alteplase for patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) eligible for intravenous thrombolysis within 4.5 hours after stroke onset? Findings: In this noninferiority randomized clinical trial including 1489 participants, a total of 72.7% of patients receiving tenecteplase and 70.3% receiving alteplase achieved modified Rankin Scale scores of 0 or 1 (excellent functional outcome), resulting in a risk ratio of 1.03 (95% CI, 0.97-1.09), which met the predefined noninferiority margin of 0.937. Meaning: Findings from this study support tenecteplase as a suitable alternative to alteplase for patients with AIS eligible for thrombolysis. Importance: Tenecteplase is a bioengineered variant of alteplase with greater fibrin specificity and a longer half-life, allowing single-bolus administration. Evidence on the treatment effect of tenecteplase 0.25 mg/kg in Chinese patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is limited. Objective: To establish the noninferiority of tenecteplase to alteplase in patients with AIS within 4.5 hours of symptom onset. Design, Setting, and Participants: The ORIGINAL study was a multicenter, active-controlled, parallel-group, randomized, open-label, blinded end point, noninferiority trial conducted between July 14, 2021, and July 14, 2023. Participants were recruited from 55 neurology clinics and stroke centers in China and were eligible if they had AIS with a National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score of 1 to 25 with measurable neurologic deficit and were symptomatic for at least 30 minutes without significant improvement. Interventions: Patients were randomized (1:1) within 4.5 hours of symptom onset to receive intravenous tenecteplase (0.25 mg/kg) or intravenous alteplase (0.9 mg/kg). Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary outcome was the proportion of patients with a modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score of 0 or 1 (no symptoms or no significant disability) at day 90, tested for noninferiority (risk ratio [RR] margin, 0.937). Safety end points included symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (per European Cooperative Acute Stroke Study III definition) and 90-day all-cause mortality. Results: Among the 1489 patients randomized, 1465 patients were included in the full analysis set (732 in the tenecteplase group; 733 in the alteplase group) and 446 (30.4%) were female. The primary outcome occurred in 72.7% (532/732) of patients receiving tenecteplase and 70.3% (515/733) receiving alteplase (RR, 1.03 [95% CI, 0.97-1.09]; noninferiority threshold met). Symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage occurred in 9 patients (1.2%) in each group (RR, 1.01 [95% CI, 0.37-2.70]). The 90-day mortality rate was 4.6% (34/732) in the tenecteplase group and 5.8% (43/736) in the alteplase group (RR, 0.80 [95% CI, 0.51-1.23]). Conclusions and Relevance: In patients with AIS eligible for intravenous thrombolysis within 4.5 hours after stroke onset, tenecteplase was noninferior to alteplase with respect to excellent functional outcome (mRS score of 0 or 1) at 90 days and had a similar safety profile. Findings from this study support tenecteplase as a suitable alternative to alteplase in this setting. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of adapted Parenting for Lifelong Health for Young Children to prevent child maltreatment in the Mainland China. Methods: A pre–post-follow-up study was designed and 54 Chinese parents received the eight-session online parenting intervention between February 4 and March 25, 2023. Results: Forty-one participants (75.9%) completed post-assessment and 36 (66.7%) completed 3-month follow-up assessment. Participants reported reduced child maltreatment, especially in emotional abuse and corporal punishment after the intervention, and the effect was maintained in 3-month follow-up. Improved positive parenting behaviors and decreased child externalizing behaviors were also observed for pre-, post-, and 3-month follow-up assessments. However, there were no significant changes in parental stress, parent–child relationship, parental depressive symptoms, and social support. Conclusions: The online Parenting for Lifelong Health for Young Children program for Chinese parents has shown promise in reducing child maltreatment, improving positive parenting, and decreasing children's problem behaviors, although randomized controlled trials are needed in future studies. This study employs corpus analytical tools to carry out a systematic study on Chinese Science and Engineering Majors' (SEMs') use of self-repair in their oral English. The study aims to find out the overall feature of using self-repair by SEMs and to see if there exists statistically significant difference of using self-repair across different English proficiency level groups. Results show that SEMs use self-repair frequently and they use same information repair (SIR) most. There is no statistically significant difference in the overall frequency of using self-repair among SEMs' levels. SEMs' correction rate is rather low. Self-monitor theory and communication strategies theory are used to explain the results. At the end of the thesis, the author provides some suggestions for oral English teaching

Objectives: Childhood maltreatment has long-lasting effects on mental health. Existing evidence suggests that trajectories of depressive symptoms vary among individuals; however, little is known about how childhood maltreatment shapes these trajectory patterns. Therefore, this study investigated the impacts of childhood maltreatment on eight-year depressive trajectories among Chinese older adults. Method: Five waves of longitudinal data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study were utilized. Growth Mixture Modelling was performed to identify distinct trajectories of depressive symptoms, and multinomial logistic regression was conducted to explore the associations between these trajectories and childhood maltreatment. Results: Four trajectories of depressive symptoms were identified: the 'no symptoms' class (61.83%), the 'increasing symptoms' class (14.49%), the 'decreasing symptoms' class (16.44%), and the 'chronic symptoms' class (7.24%). Older adults who experienced childhood physical abuse were more likely to be in the 'chronic symptoms' class than in the 'no symptoms' class, whereas emotional neglect did not show a significant association with three problematic trajectories. Conclusion: This study provides empirical evidence that childhood physical abuse increases the likelihood of developing chronic depressive symptoms in later life. To mitigate this risk, it is crucial to institute comprehensive treatment plans that incorporate trauma-informed care principles, employ evidence-based therapies specifically designed to address the long-term effects of abuse, and prioritize regular screening and assessment of mental health among older adults. Purpose: Parenting for Lifelong Health for Young Children (PLH-YC) is a program to prevent child maltreatment. This study aimed to examine the feasibility, acceptability and preliminary effects of the adapted program for Chinese parents. Methods: A pre–post single-arm pilot trial was conducted with 21 Chinese parents. A mixed-method design was utilized to collect questionnaire-based quantitative data and qualitative data of interviews and focus group discussions. Results: Program implementation was feasible, with overall high recruitment, enrollment, attendance, acceptability and fidelity. Quantitative results demonstrated reductions in general child maltreatment, physical and emotional abuse, child behavioral problems, and improvements in positive parenting. Thematic analyses identified reduced violent discipline, psychological aggression, and child behavioral problems, strengthened parent–child bonds, increased parenting confidence, and decreased family conflict. Conclusion: The adapted PLH-YC program for Chinese parents has shown good feasibility and acceptability, and exhibited a significant association with reduced child maltreatment. Background: Insulin resistance (IR) and obesity are established risk factors for hypertension, with triglyceride-glucose (TyG) serving as a recognized surrogate marker for IR. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between TyG-BMI and hypertension in the general population. Methods: A total of 60,283 adults aged ≥18 years who underwent face-to-face questionnaires, anthropometric measurements, and laboratory examination were included in this study. Multivariable logistic regression models and receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) were used to determine the association between TyG-BMI and hypertension. The restricted cubic spline model was used for the dose-response analysis. Results: After fully adjusting for confounding variables, multivariate logistic regression model showed a stable positive association between TyG-BMI and hypertension (OR: 1.61 per SD increase; 95% CI: 1.55–1.67; P-trend < 0.001). The multivariate adjusted OR and 95% CI for the highest TyG-BMI quartile compared with the lowest quartile were 2.52 (95% CI 2.28–2.78). Dose-response analysis using restricted cubic spline confirmed that the association between TyG-BMI index and hypertension was linear. Subgroup analyses showed that stronger associations between TyG-BMI index and hypertension were detected in young and middle-aged individuals (P for interaction < 0.05). ROC analysis showed that TyG-BMI index could better predict the risk of hypertension than other parameters (TyG-BMI cut-off value: 207.105, AUC: 0.719, sensitivity 65.5%, specificity 66.8%), particularly among young and middle-aged people. Background and aims: Using structural equation model (SEM) to test a conceptual model of pathways of developing hypertension among dysglycemia (IFG and T2DM) adults in Eastern China, emphasizing the unique mediation effect of insulin resistance and obesity on the relationship between modified/unmodified factors and hypertension. Methods and results: Participants with dysglycemia (n = 10,401) were extracted from the survey of Chronic Disease and Risk Factor Surveillance in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province in China. Dietary patterns were identified by using principal component analysis (PCA). SEM was employed to evaluate multiple pathways of hypertension among participants with IFG and T2DM. Three dietary patterns were derived using PCA. The tuber animal food pattern (OR = 0.825, 95% CI 0.723–0.940) and the balanced food pattern (OR = 0.812, 95% CI 0.715–0.922) were negatively associated with hypertension, while the Chinese rural food pattern (OR = 1.163, 95% CI 1.019–1.328) was positively associated with hypertension. The best SEM model showed that BMI (0.140), smoking (0.048) and Chinese rural food pattern (0.022) positively associated with hypertension; while tuber animal food pattern (− 0.025) had a negative direct effect on hypertension. Notably, insulin resistance could mediate the link between lifestyles (smoking and dietary patterns) and hypertension. Conclusion: Accordingly, we emphasized the importance of lifestyle intervention, mainly including obesity management, choosing healthy diets and decreasing smoking control, which may profoundly benefit this high-risk group among Chinese population. Background: Good health self-management positively affects the health of healthcare providers and their ability to manage their patients' health. This study explored the relationship between ehealth literacy, health self-management skills, and mental health literacy among undergraduate nursing students. Some studies have confirmed the correlation between e-health literacy and health self-management skills, while mental health literacy may be correlated with both, and this study aims to explore the relationship between the three. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted at a medical university in northwestern China among 385 Chinese undergraduate nursing students. Participants completed the General Information Questionnaire, the Adult Health Self-Management Skills Rating Scale, the Mental Health Literacy Rating Scale, and the eHealth Literacy Scale, and provided valid responses. The IBM SPSS 27.0 statistical software was used for data entry and descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation analysis. The IBM Amos 26.0 was used to construct the mediation effect model, and the Bootstrap method was employed to test mediating effects. Results: Mental health literacy, ehealth literacy, and health self-management skills of undergraduate nursing students were at a moderate to high level. Mental health literacy, ehealth literacy, and health self-management were positively correlated. Mental health literacy, particularly, played a partial mediating role of 31.1% (95% CI [0.307–1.418]) between ehealth literacy and health self-management. Conclusions: Undergraduate nursing students' mental health literacy partially mediates the link between eHealth literacy and health self-management skills. Schools should emphasize the development of nursing students' e-health literacy and mental health literacy in order to improve their health self-management skills, which will not only bring about a better health outcome for the students, but will also benefit the health of the social population. Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major global health threat, particularly in China, contributing to over 40% of deaths. While sleep behaviors, sedentary behaviors, and physical activities are recognized as independent lifestyle risk factors for CVD, there remains limited understanding of specific movement behavior patterns and their CVD risks, especially considering sex-specific differences. This study examines movement behavior patterns among Chinese adults (40–75) and their associations with cardiovascular risk, with a focus on sleep, physical activity (PA), and sedentary behavior (SB). Methods: Data pertaining to 13,465 male participants and 15,613 female participants, collected from the Chronic Disease and Risk Factor Surveillance Survey in Nanjing from February 2020 to December 2022. The latent class analysis method was employed to identify underlying movement patterns across sexes. Multinomial logistic regression models assessed CVD risk, and the China-PAR model calculated 10-year risk. Results: Three male and four female movement patterns emerged. Active Movers (17.10% males, 5.93% females) adhered to PA recommendations but had poorer sleep quality. Moderate Achievers (61.42% males, 45.32% females) demonstrated moderate behavior. Sedentary Sleepers (21.48% males, 10.20% females) exhibited minimal PA but good sleep. Female Moderate Physical Activity (MPA) Dominant Movers demonstrated a prevalent adherence to recommended MPA levels. Active movers had the lowest CVD risk. After adjusting for potential confounders, moderate achievers (OR = 1.462, 95% CI 1.212, 1.764) and sedentary sleepers (OR = 1.504, 95% CI 1.211, 1.868) were both identified as being associated with a high-risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) compared to active movers in males, demonstrating a similar trend for intermediate risk. Such associations were not statistically significant among females. Conclusions: Our study revealed sex-specific movement patterns associated with CVD risks among middle-aged Chinese adults. We suggest that adopting an active movement behavior pattern, characterized by meeting or exceeding recommended levels of vigorous physical activity (VPA) and reducing sedentary behavior, is beneficial for all middle-aged adults, particularly males. An active lifestyle could help counteract the adverse effects of relatively poor sleep quality on the risk of developing CVD in this population. A field trial was performed to carry out an enhanced phytoremediation technique for multi-metal contaminated copper tailings by Sudan grass (Sorghum Sudanese), ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), and Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon), using conditioner (TH-LZ01) and straw combination into composite amendments as soil amendments, aimed to obtain the maximum of phytoremediation effect. The results showed that compared with untreated herbaceous plants, the application of conditioner and straw planted with herbaceous plants reduced the pH and conductivity and increased the organic matter and water content of the copper tailings to different degrees. With the addition of conditioner and straw, the DTPA-Cd, DTPA-Cu, DTPA-Pb, and DTPA-Zn contents in the copper tailings showed a decreasing trend compared with the untreated group. The herbaceous plants were promoted to reduce the percentage contents of acid soluble fractions Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn and to increase the percentage contents of reducible, oxidizable, and residual fractions heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn) in the copper tailings to different degrees. The contents of Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn in the underground part of herbaceous plants were higher than those in the aboveground part, and the contents of Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn in the aboveground part and underground part decreased after adding conditioner and straw, which indicated that the conditioner and straw inhibited the transport of heavy metals in the plant. Furthermore, the principal component analysis showed that the application of conditioner and straw with planting ryegrass had more potential for improving the physicochemical properties of copper tailings and reducing heavy metal toxicity, followed by Bermuda grass and Sudan grass. Aims: Valvular heart disease (VHD) is one of the leading causes of heart failure. Clinically significant VHD can induce different patterns of cardiac remodelling, and risk stratification is challenging in patients with various degrees of cardiac dysfunction. The study aimed to investigate the prognostic implications of Meta‐Analysis Global Group in Chronic Heart Failure (MAGGIC) score in patients with VHD. Methods and results: This study used data from the China Valvular Heart Disease (China‐VHD) registry, which was a multicentre, prospective, observational cohort study for patients with significant (at least moderate) VHD. In total, 10 446 patients with moderate or greater VHD from the China‐VHD study were included in the present analysis. The primary outcome of interest was all‐cause mortality within 2 years. Among 10 446 patients with VHD, the mean age was 61.98 ± 13.47 years, and 5819 (55.7%) were male. During 2 years of follow‐up, 895 (8.6%) patients died. The MAGGIC score was monotonically and independently associated with mortality in both total cohort [adjusted hazard ratio: 1.095, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.084–1.107, P < 0.001] and most types of VHD (aortic regurgitation, mitral stenosis, mitral regurgitation, tricuspid regurgitation, mixed aortic stenosis and aortic regurgitation, and multiple VHD). The score was also an independent prognostic factor in patients with or without symptoms or preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and exhibited both satisfactory discrimination and calibration properties in predicting mortality. The prognostic value of MAGGIC score was robust in most quartiles of N‐terminal pro‐brain natriuretic peptide level, with no significant interaction observed (Pinteraction = 0.498). Compared with the EuroSCORE II, the MAGGIC score achieved significantly better predictive performance in overall population [C index: 0.769 vs. 0.727; net reclassification improvement index (95% CI): 0.354 (0.313–0.396), P < 0.001; integrated discrimination improvement index (95% CI): 0.069 (0.052–0.085), P < 0.001] and in subgroups of patients divided by therapeutic strategy, LVEF, symptomatic status, stage of VHD, and aetiology of VHD. Conclusions: The MAGGIC score is a reliable prognostic factor across the range of cardiac dysfunction in VHD and may assist in risk stratification and guide clinical decision‐making. Simple Summary: Pseudobagrus ussuriensis is a high-value fish species widely distributed in various river basins across China. Its benthic lifestyle and lack of scales make its skin susceptible to damage, leading to diseases and mortality. Hypoxia represents a significant factor affecting fish health, whether in captive environments or natural water bodies. Exposure to low oxygen levels can result in various adverse effects, including causing an immune response in fish. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the differential immune responses of distinct tissues to acute hypoxia and reoxygenation by analyzing the histophysiological and transcriptional changes in the brain and skin of P. ussuriensis. Our findings revealed that both the brain and skin exhibited immune responses to hypoxia, which persisted even after reoxygenation. However, it was observed that the overall immune response intensity in the brain was lower than that in the skin. This research provides novel insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the response of P. ussuriensis to hypoxia stress. Pseudobagrus ussuriensis is an unscaled fish that is more susceptible to skin damage than scaled fish. To investigate the impacts of hypoxia and reoxygenation on skin and brain immunity, juvenile P. ussuriensis were subjected to hypoxia conditions (DO: 0.8 ± 0.05 mg/L) for durations of 0, 3, 6, and 12 h, followed by 12 h of reoxygenation (DO > 6 mg/L). Histological analysis showed a significant increase in the number of skin mucosal cells after 12 h of hypoxia and a significant decrease after 12 h of reoxygenation when compared to the control group. As the duration of hypoxia increased, an increase in antioxidant (SOD, CAT, GSH, MDA) and immune (cortisol, LZM) physiological parameters of the skin and brain appeared. The results of transcriptomic studies showed that the number of differential genes was greater in skin than in brain. Most of the immune pathways in both tissues under hypoxia conditions were all nonspecific immunity (TNF, IL-17, chemokines), while both tissues maintained their homeostasis through active energy supply and cell cycle regulation. Meanwhile, both physiological parameters and RNA transcriptome results showed that 12 h of reoxygenation could not completely eliminate the negative effects of 12 h of hypoxia. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic is a global public health crisis. During the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health has attracted great attention. However, there is a lack of research on the relationship between academic stress and depression in Chinese college students and its mechanisms. Therefore, this study investigated the mechanisms of coping style, sleep quality, and interpersonal relationship in academic stress and depression among college students. Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted from May to June 2022 through face-to-face questionnaires with college students in Anhui Province, China. The questionnaires included sociodemographic information, the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire, and the Self-Rating Depression Scale. Ordered logistic regression model was used to study the relationship between academic stress and depression of college students during the COVID-19 pandemic through the mechanism analysis of coping style, sleep quality and interpersonal relationship. Results: Two thousand thirty-three Chinese college students participated in the study, including 1,285 female and 748 male college students, with an average age 19.81 years old (SD = 1.22 years old). The results showed that (1) Academic stress had a significant impact on depression in college students under the background of COVID-19 (p < 0.01); (2) The influence of academic stress on depression had a difference in work experience as student cadres, which showed that college students who had served as student cadres were less affected by academic stress (p < 0.10), college students who had not served as student cadres were greatly affected by the academic stress (p < 0.05); (3) College students' attitudes toward COVID-19 significantly affected depression (p < 0.01); (4) Counselors' concern had a significant impact on college students' depression (p < 0.01); (5) Positive coping style, high quality sleep and good interpersonal relationship were the important mechanisms of the impact of academic stress on college students' depression. Conclusions: This study provides new findings for in-depth understanding of the relationship between academic stress and depression among college students in China during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is conducive to the provision of targeted intervention measures for the mental health of college students. Extreme cold events exert enormous impacts on the ecosystems and human health. A quantitative attribution analysis of the surface temperature anomalies associated with extreme cold events in China is conducted using an updated version of the coupled atmosphere-surface climate feedback response analysis method. For both extreme warm and cold years, the effects of anomalous surface albedo, water vapor, atmospheric dynamics, and aerosols are the major positive contributors, and the processes associated with surface dynamics provide a major negative effect. Specifically, the effect of surface albedo (water vapor) is directly linked to the change in local snow cover (precipitable water) over China. More local snow cover (precipitable water) provides a cooling (warming) effect and vice versa. The process associated with atmospheric dynamics exhibits an asymmetric contribution for the extreme warm and cold years. It provides a warming effect over most of China in the extreme warm years, which is possibly related to the nation-wide warm air advection. On the other hand, the effect of atmospheric dynamics displays large regional and year-to-year variations for the cold cases. In addition, a considerable impact of anthropogenic aerosols is detected over central-southern China, which is possibly related to the emission reduction policies in China since 2013. Background: Health security is a critical issue which involves multiple dimensions. It has received increasing attention in recent years, especially in China. In order to improve the national health level, China has made many efforts, such as the "Healthy China 2030" plan proposed several years ago. However, due to the complexity of its national conditions and the difficulty of index design, the results of these efforts are not significant. Therefore, it is necessary to construct a new measurement index system. Methods: Based on the questionnaire of "Health China 2030", we have collected a total of 3,000 participants from all 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in China. We used statistical methods such as multiple correspondence analysis and rank-ordered effect analysis to process the data. The balance index is constructed by a series of actions such as weight division, order calculation and ranking. Results: Through multiple correspondence analysis, we can find that there was a close relation in the correspondence space between the satisfaction degrees 1, 2, and 3, while a far distance from satisfaction degrees 4 and 5. There were four positive and four negative indices separately based on the average expected level and four clusters after ordinal rank cluster analysis. Generally speaking, there are no prominent discrepancies across gender and residential areas. Conclusions: We created and examined balanced indicators for health security in China based on the "Health China 2030" questionnaire. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of horizontal transmission of the blaCTX-M-65 gene and the role of its associated mobile genetic elements (MGEs) in the bovine-derived Escherichia coli. After PCR identification, two plasmids carrying blaCTX-M-65 were successfully transferred to the recipient E. coli J53 Azr through conjugation assays and subsequently selected for Whole-Genome sequencing (WGS) analysis. The resistance profiles of these two positive strains and their transconjugants were also determined through antimicrobial susceptibility tests. Whole genome data were acquired using both the PacBio sequencing platform and the Illumina data platform. The annotated results were then submitted to the Genbank database for accession number recording. For comparison, the genetic environment of plasmids carrying the resistance gene blaCTX-M-65 was mapped using the Easyfig software. WGS analysis revealed Tn3-like composite transposons bearing blaCTX-M-65, blaTEM-1, and blaOXA-10 in the IncHI2-type plasmids of these two E. coli ST1508 strains. A phylogenetic tree was generated from all 48 assembled E. coli isolates blaCTX-M-65, blaTEM-1, and blaOXA-10 from the NCBI Pathogen Detection database with our two isolates, showing the relationships and the contribution of SNPs to the diversity between genetic samples. This study suggests that the transmissibility of blaCTX-M-65 on Tn3-like composite transposons contributes to an increased risk of its transmission in E. coli derived from dairy cattle. Improving diabetes self-management (DSM) is facing real-world challenges among people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who have a low education level in resource-limited areas. This study aimed to investigate whether diabetes knowledge could predict glycemic levels in people with T2DM in rural China. This analytical cross-sectional study recruited 321 people with T2DM from eight villages by purposive sampling at baseline. After 10 months, 206 patients completed the follow-up survey and HbA1c tests, with a response rate of 64.17% (206/321). Multiple regression analysis was employed to explore the correlation between diabetes knowledge and HbA1c levels. The patient's diabetes knowledge was significantly negatively correlated with HbA1c levels before and after controlling for covariates in both hierarchical multiple regression and multiple logistic regression (p < 0.01). In addition, other influencing factors, including sex, age, marital status, employment status, income, and HbA1c levels at baseline, were also identified. Diabetes knowledge could predict HbA1c levels significantly among patients with low education levels in rural China. Therefore, interventions on improving diabetes knowledge need to be strengthened for patients in rural China so that they can improve their health outcomes and reduce the disease burden. Significant and composite indices for infectious disease can have implications for developing interventions and public health. This paper presents an investment for developing access to further analysis of the incidence of individual and multiple diseases. This research mainly comprises two steps: first, an automatic and reproducible procedure based on functional data analysis techniques was proposed for analyzing the dynamic properties of each disease; second, orthogonal transformation was adopted for the development of composite indices. Between 2000 and 2019, nineteen class B notifiable diseases in China were collected for this study from the National Bureau of Statistics of China. The study facilitates the probing of underlying information about the dynamics from discrete incidence rates of each disease through the procedure, and it is also possible to obtain similarities and differences about diseases in detail by combining the derivative features. There has been great success in intervening in the majority of notifiable diseases in China, like bacterial or amebic dysentery and epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis, while more efforts are required for some diseases, like AIDS and virus hepatitis. The composite indices were able to reflect a more complex concept by combining individual incidences into a single value, providing a simultaneous reflection for multiple objects, and facilitating disease comparisons accordingly. For the notifiable diseases included in this study, there was superior management of gastro-intestinal infectious diseases and respiratory infectious diseases from the perspective of composite indices. This study developed a methodology for exploring the prevalent properties of infectious diseases. Soil water infiltration is a key mechanism for meeting plant water demand and groundwater recharge cycles; however, unreasonable land use practices cause reduced infiltration capacity and greater soil erosion. To date, differences in the properties of aeolian sandy soil and Pisha sandstone soil under different utilization methods as well as in soil properties, aggregates, and infiltration among kind of soil types, remain poorly understood. In this work, 54 soil samples of cropland and grassland were selected to identify the unique characteristics of soil infiltration processes under transition from cropland to grassland and contributions of soil properties to soil infiltrability in the Loess Plateau of China. The results showed that converting cropland to grassland could enhance the stable infiltration capacity of shallow soils of aeolian sandy soil and loess soil by 43.6% and 35.7%, respectively. Compared with cropland, the root properties and soil aggregate formation of the three soil types increased during grassland use, with the largest increase in soil organic matter content (32.14%) and total porosities (6.4%). As determined by the ring knife method, the saturated infiltration capacity of Pisha sandstone soil was significantly lower than in aeolian sandy soil and loess soil (p < 0.5). Moreover, its saturated infiltration capacity of cropland was better than grassland. Spearman's correlation analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) revealed that soil infiltration capacity appeared to be the most influenced by soil organic matter, and aggregate structure. These results highlight that fifteen years of returning cropland to grassland is not enough to affect the infiltration ability of deep soil (≥20 cm), and this improvement requires longer term maintenance. Objective: Gestational transient thyrotoxicosis (GTT) and Graves' disease (GD) are the most common causes of hyperthyroidism during pregnancy. However, few studies have compared pregnancy outcomes of patients who had GTT with those who had GD in the first trimester of pregnancy. Methods: We conducted a prospective multicenter cohort study in China. Participants received questionnaires, physical examinations, and underwent measurements of thyrotropin (TSH), free thyroxine (fT4), thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), TSH receptor antibody (TRAb), and urinary iodine in the first trimester. The patients diagnosed with either GTT or GD and normal thyroid function (NTF) group were followed until delivery. The thyroid function and pregnancy outcomes were reported. Results: A total of 125 pregnant women with thyrotoxicosis and 246 age-matched pregnant women with NTF were included. (1) The thyroid function of the GTT group returned to normal range in the third trimester, but was consistently abnormal in the GD group. (2) The incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in the GTT group (11.5%, 9/78) was significantly higher than that in NTF group (4.9%, 12/246) (p = 0.037). The incidence of premature delivery in the GD untreated (30.8%, 8/26, p = 0.002) and treated groups (28.6%, 6/21, p = 0.008) was both, respectively, higher than that in the NTF group (7.7%, 19/246). Miscarriage (15.4%, 4/26 vs. 3.7%, 9/246, p = 0.026) and gestational hypertension (19.2%, 5/26 vs. 3.3%, 8/246, p = 0.004) were more prevalent in the GD untreated group than in the NTF group. (3) The presence of positive TRAb and positive TPOAb in the first trimester were independent risk factors for miscarriage (odds ratio [OR] = 5.23, confidence interval [CI] = 1.11–24.78, p = 0.037) and low birth weight infants (OR = 7.76, CI = 1.23–48.86, p = 0.029), respectively. Conclusion: In conclusion, pregnancy outcomes appear variable, according to the etiology of first trimester thyrotoxicosis. GTT appears to be associated with GDM. GD appears to be associated with an increased risk of premature delivery, gestational hypertension, and miscarriage. Depression can be transmitted from parents to children through the gene–environment interaction. Previous studies have focused on the short-term effects of parental depression on children and adolescents while neglecting the long-term effects. Furthermore, as a major indicator of stressful environment, the mediating role of different types of family violence has rarely been studied. The purpose of this study was to examine the long-term effects of parental depressive symptoms on those of adult children and to explore the potential mediating roles of different types of family violence (physical abuse, witnessing interparental violence, and sibling violence) in China. Data came from the 2014 and 2018 waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), which consisted of 10,973 participants aged 45 years and older. Logistic regression models were performed. The total effect was decomposed into direct and indirect effects by logistic regression based on the Karlson/Holm/Breen (KHB) method. The results indicated that parental depressive symptoms were related to adult children's depressive symptoms (odds ratio [OR], 1.20; 95% confidence interval [CI] [1.16–1.25]). The KHB method showed that this relationship was mediated by physical abuse (OR, 1.01; 95% CI [1.00–1.01]) and witnessing interparental violence (OR, 1.01; 95% CI [1.01–1.02]). In China, depression can be transmitted from parents to their adult children through family violence. The findings suggest that regular mental health screening across entire lifespan and family violence prevention programs targeting depressed parents may bring long-term benefit to adult children's mental health. Individual interviews were conducted with a total of 66 participants from five groups between May and November 2020: left-behind children, parents, teachers, principals, and community workers. The left-behind children group included 16 primary and secondary school students aged 10–16. Themes in the interviews' data were identified based on the Grounded Theory. Left-behind children's social maladjustment manifested as: (1) depression and loneliness; and (2) poor academic performance. Left-behind children's positive social adjustment manifested as: (1) using adaptive coping strategies; and (2) life skills and independence. Background: The real‐time non‐destructive estimation of soil total nitrogen content via hyperspectral remote sensing is important for crop fertilization and precision agriculture development. Aims: The study aimed to use hyperspectral technology for the construction of an estimation model using different methods for assessing total nitrogen content in Shajiang black soil. Methods: In our study, soil samples were obtained from Shangshui County, Henan Province, China. Using hyperspectral data of soil samples, the original spectral reflectance was transformed into logarithmic, reciprocal, and first derivative spectra. Hyperspectral estimation models for assessing the total nitrogen content were built with spectral indices, competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) algorithms, and a combination of machine learning methods, including the partial least square regression, support vector machine (SVM), and random forest methods. Results: The results showed that after the first derivative transformation, the performance of normalized indices constructed with a combination of two bands at 1401 and 776 nm was better. The coefficient of determination (R2), root mean square error (RMSE), ratio of performance to deviation (RPD), and ratio of performance to the inter‐quartile range (RPIQ) values of the model were 0.84, 0.10 g kg–1, 2.25, and 4.04, respectively. Validation was performed using data independent of the modeling samples, and validation R2, RMSE, RPD, and RPIQ values were 0.92, 0.07 g kg–1, 2.56, and 4.19, respectively. The same sample was analyzed using a CARS algorithm for screening feature bands, and the 61 reciprocal reflectance bands selected as the input for the SVM exhibited the best performance. A modeling R2 value of 0.92, RMSE of 0.07 g kg–1, RPD of 3.09, RPIQ of 5.97, and validation R2 of 0.96, RMSE of 0.06 g kg–1, RPD of 3.24, and RPIQ of 8.47 were observed. Conclusions: The estimation models constructed using the two methods exhibited good ability to determine the total nitrogen content. The accuracy of the SVM model was slightly higher than that of the indices model, but both models could facilitate the rapid estimation of total nitrogen content in Shajiang black soil. The technical supply potential of biomass and the associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are widely studied in the literature. However, relatively few studies have examined the role of biomass co-firing for future electricity in China by integratedly considering the economic supply potential and GHG effects. To fill this gap, we choose the Jiangsu Province in China as a case study and build up a partial equilibrium model with multiple agricultural commodities. Using this model combined with a life cycle assessment, we jointly determine the economic potential of the biomass supply for a biomass co-firing purpose and social benefits, including the agricultural producers' surplus and GHG mitigation potential. The simulation incorporates the county-level biomass market of various crop residues as well as endogenous crop prices and transportation costs. We find that 0.7–12.5 M MT of residue-based biomass are economically viable for co-firing in coal-based power plants (up to 20%) at biomass prices between USD 50 and USD 100/MT. The net GHG savings achieved at these biomass prices are from 3.2 to 59 M MTCO2e. Our findings indicate that biomass co-firing with coal in power plants would be a feasible low-carbon energy transition pathway if the biomass price is above USD 50/MT. In addition to biomass prices, other factors such as crop yields, production costs of residues, and transportation costs are found to be impactful on the economic viability of biomass and GHG savings. The variability in the quality of water that runs along the course of a river, flowing out of a mountain pass, through an agricultural oasis and into a lake, has been a key topic of research in recent years. In this study, the characteristics of dissolved organic matter (DOM) along the river flow, and its relationship with water quality, were analyzed using the Canadian water quality index (CWQI), parallel factor (PARAFAC) and self-organizing map (SOM). The study results include: (1) The conclusion of field sampling along the lower reaches of the Kaidu River and laboratory measurements of water quality parameters, using CWQI to determine the water quality index of the lower Kaidu River, ranging between 59.58 and 93.47. The water quality of the lower reaches of the Kaidu River generally ranges between moderate and good, and can meet the water use requirements of Class II water function standards. (2) The DOM composition of the river predominantly contained three fluorescence components, while the three fluorescence indices of the water body varied less in different river sections. Based on the SOM training model, the fluorescence intensity of the C1 component was larger among the three fluorescence components, followed by the C2 component, and the smallest fluorescence intensity of the C3, which was dominated by humic-like substances, with a high authigenic origin and humification degree. (3) The fluorescence index and fluorescence components were correlated with water quality parameters, and it was found that C1, C2 and C3 were negative and correlated significantly with SO42- and Total-dissolved solids (TDS) concentrations; FI, HIX and BIX showed strong positive correlations with SAL and Cu and negative correlations with dissolved oxygen (DO). China is the world's third-largest producer of sugarcane, slightly behind Brazil and India. As an important cash crop in China, sugarcane has always been the main source of sugar, the basic strategic material. The planting method of sugarcane used in China is mainly the pre-cutting planting mode. However, there are many problems with this technology, which has a great impact on the planting quality of sugarcane. Aiming at a series of problems, such as low cutting efficiency and poor quality in the pre-cutting planting mode of sugarcane, a sugarcane-seed-cutting device was proposed, and a sugarcane-seed-cutting system based on automatic identification technology was designed. The system consists of a sugarcane-cutting platform, a seed-cutting device, a visual inspection system, and a control system. Among them, the visual inspection system adopts the YOLO V5 network model to identify and detect the eustipes of sugarcane, and the seed-cutting device is composed of a self-tensioning conveying mechanism, a reciprocating crank slider transmission mechanism, and a high-speed rotary cutting mechanism so that the cutting device can complete the cutting of sugarcane seeds of different diameters. The test shows that the recognition rate of sugarcane seed cutting is no less than 94.3%, the accuracy rate is between 94.3% and 100%, and the average accuracy is 98.2%. The bud injury rate is no higher than 3.8%, while the average cutting time of a single seed is about 0.7 s, which proves that the cutting system has a high cutting rate, recognition rate, and low injury rate. The Chinese IBDV novel variant (nvIBDV), belonging to the genotype A2dB1b, an emerging pathotype that can cause subclinical disease with severe, prolonged immunosuppression, poses a new threat to the poultry industry. The process of the global origin, evolution and transmission dynamics of nvIBDV, however, is poorly understood. In this study, phylogenetic trees, site substitutions of amino acid (aa) and highly accurate protein structure modelling, selection pressure, evolutionary and transmission dynamics of nvIBDV were analysed. Interestingly, nvIBDV was classified into the same genogroup with the early US antigenic variants (avIBDV) but in a new lineage with a markedly different and specific pattern of 17 aa‐residual substitutions: 13 in VP2 (77D, 213N, 221K, 222T, 249K, 252I, 253Q, 254N, 284A, 286I, 299S, 318D and 323E) and four in VP1 (141I, 163V, 240E and 508K). Importantly, the aa‐residues 299S and 163V may play a key role in cell binding and polymerase activity, respectively. The effective population size of the circulating avIBDV experienced two growth phases, respectively, in the years 1999–2007 (in North America) and 2015–2021 (in Asia), which is consistent with the observed trend of the epidemic outbreaks. The most recent common ancestor (tMRCA) of avIBDV most first originated in the USA and was dated around the 1970s. After its emergence, the ancestor virus of this group probably spread to China around the 1990s and the variants experienced a long‐term latent circulation with the accumulation of several critical aa‐residue mutations in VP2 until re‐emerging in 2016. At present, central China has become the epicentre of nvIBDV spread to other parts of China and Asian countries. Importantly, a strong correlation seems to exist between the transmission patterns of virus and the flow of commercial trade of live poultry and products. These findings provide important insights into the origin, evolution and transmission of the nvIBDV and will assist in the development of programs for control strategies for these emerging viruses. China ranks currently as one of the top countries for organ transplantation according to types, capacity, related research, quality, and quantity of procedures. However, the management systems struggle to support these practices. This study aims to review the current situation with organ donation and transplantation in China recently. Data about organ donation and transplantation was collected by using web crawler technology from several news sections of representative portal websites in China. A total of 3475 documents about organ donation and transplantation were analyzed after data preprocessing. The documents were analyzed using machine learning to find out the relationship among the hot topics and their social popularity as well as to explore the dominant subtopics of the hot topics. The results of weighted correlation network analysis and documents clustering analysis identified 9 topics about organ donation and transplantation in China with a wide discussion: transplantation ethics, donor compensation, use of the remains, transportation guarantee of living organs, organ allocation, relevant national standards of organ donation and transplantation, legislation on organ donation, penalties for violation, and the Red Cross Society of China. This study found out the main problems and proposed them for future discussion with organ donation and transplantation system in China: the lack of publicity and education and the difficulty of standardizing legislation about ethical issues arousing ethical problems; the need to understand the relationship and the standardization among costs, expenses, and compensation; and the lack of more support from the government and public to ensure regular organ donation and transplantation. Flood disasters are one of the most serious meteorological disasters in China. With the rapid development of information technology, individual monitoring tools could not meet the need for flood disaster monitoring. Therefore, a new integrated air-space-ground method, based on combined satellite remote sensing, unmanned aerial vehicle remote sensing and field measurement technology, has been proposed to monitor and assess flood disasters caused by a dam failure in Poyang County, Jiangxi Province. In this paper, based on an air-space-ground investigation system, the general flooded areas, severely affected areas, and more severely affected areas were 53.18 km2, 12.61 km2 and 6.98 km2, respectively. The size of the dam break gap was about 65 m and 34.7 m on 22 and 23 June. The assessment precision was better than 98%, and the root mean square error (RMSE) was 0.86 m. The method could meet the needs for flood disaster information at different spatiotemporal scales, such as macro scale, medium scale and local small scale. The integrated monitoring of flood disasters was carried out to provide the whole process and all-round information on flood evolution dynamics, the disaster development process for flood disaster monitoring and emergency assessment, and holographic information for emergency rescue and disaster reduction, as well as to meet the need for different temporal and spatial scales of information in the process of disaster emergencies. Novel variant infectious bursal disease virus (nvIBDV) is an emerging pathotype that can cause sub‐clinical disease with severe, prolonged immunosuppression in young chickens. At present, two major pathotypes, including vvIBDV and nvIBDV, are prevailing in China. In this study, we propose that the nvIBDV is a new genotype (A2dB1b) and also first isolated and characterized a nvIBDV reassortant strain YL160304 (A2dB3) with segments A and B derived, respectively, from the nvIBDV and the HLJ‐0504‐like vvIBDV from yellow chickens in southern China. The YL160304 causes more extensive cytotropism and can infect specific‐pathogen‐free chicken embryos with severe subcutaneous hemorrhage. The pathogenicity of YL160304 to 4‐week‐old three‐yellow chickens was determined and compared with those of the nvIBDV QZ191002 and the HLJ‐0504‐like vvIBDV NN1172. Weight gain was significantly reduced in all the challenged birds. No clinical signs and associated mortality were observed in the birds challenged with QZ191002, while the mortalities in the birds challenged with NN1172 and YL160304 were 30% (3/10) and 10% (1/10), respectively. At 7 days postchallenge, the bursa was severely damaged and the percentage of peripheral blood B lymphocyte (PBBL) decreased significantly in all the challenged birds and the quantity of the viral RNA detected in the bursa was in accordance with the results of the histomorphometry and the depletion of PBBL. This study not only confirmed the emerging epidemic of the novel variant and its reassortant strains, but also discovered that the naturally reassortant nvIBDV strain with the segment B of HLJ 0504‐like vvIBDV can significantly enhance the pathogenicity to chickens. The impact of lockdown measures in Wuhan, China during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic on child maltreatment remains unknown. The present study attempted to estimate the prevalence of child maltreatment during this period, to identify risk factors, and the influence of child maltreatment. A representative sample of 1,062 school-aged children in rural Hubei province was surveyed. Results indicated that the prevalence of family violence, physical violence, emotional abuse and neglect during the lockdown period were 13.9, 13.7, 20.2 and 7.3 percent, respectively, and that of lifetime prevalence were 17.0, 13.9, 14.6 and 6.9 percent, respectively. And most victims did not seek official help. Boys were more likely to experience physical violence. Children from separated/divorced families tended to report more emotional abuse. Those having family members with a history of drug abuse and mental illness were more likely to experience neglect during the lockdown period. All types of child maltreatment were positively associated with self-harm behaviours. These findings highlight the importance of identifying at-risk children immediately and implementing timely intervention programmes to prevent self-harm behaviours for social workers and health professionals. Recently, Hattori–Lagha established the global existence and asymptotic behavior of the solutions for a three-dimensional compressible chemotaxis system with chemoattractant and repellent (Hattori and Lagha in Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. 41(11):5141–5164, 2021). Motivated by Hattori–Lagha's work, we further investigated the optimal time-decay rates of strong solutions with small perturbation to the three-dimensional Keller–Segel system coupled to the compressible Navier–Stokes equations, which models for the motion of swimming bacteria in a compressible viscous fluid. First, we reformulate the system into a perturbation form. Then we establish a prior estimates of solutions and prove the existence of the global-in-time solutions based on the local existence of unique solutions. Finally, we will establish the optimal time-decay rates of the nonhomogeneous system by the decomposition technique of both low and high frequencies of solutions as in (Wang and Wen in Sci. Cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) activities and hygroscopic properties of aerosol particles were studied based on the core-shell model with extended Köhler equation. Three kinds of core-shell particles were mainly considered: (1) insoluble core and soluble inorganic shell; (2) insoluble core and organic shell with limited solubility; (3) organic core with limited solubility and soluble inorganic shell. Results of the model calculations showed that Köhler curves of aerosol particles were different from classical Köhler curves of inorganic particles. Particle size, chemical composition and mass fraction of components all influence the curve shape, and the curve might show one or more extreme points of supersaturation. Critical supersaturation decreased when the mass fraction of the shell increased. This implied that the heterogeneous chemical reaction that happened to suspended particles in air could increase shell mass fraction and make particles more CCN active and hygroscopic. When the three models were compared, particles in model 3 were most CCN active, while those in model 2 were least CCN active. If the shell mass fraction was 0.1–0.2 for model 3 and 0.3–0.4 for model 1, the calculated hygroscopic parameter κ was closer to historical measuring results of 0.2–0.3 in polluted areas in China while the hygroscopic parameter would never be close to measuring results in model 2 no matter how high the shell mass fraction was. Based on discussion of two component particles of the core-shell model, more components in core-shell model could be considered, and the calculations were discussed in this article. Background: The role of socioeconomic status (SES) on hypertension prevalence and hypertension control has gotten much attention but with conflicting results. This paper aimed to quantify the association of SES with both hypertension prevalence and hypertension control rate in Nanjing, China.Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted using multistage random sampling on 60,283 adults aged more than 18 years between March 2017 and June 2018. Hypertension was defined as systolic blood pressure (BP) ≥ 140 mmHg and/or diastolic BP ≥ 90 mmHg or self-reported diagnosis of hypertension or respondent's report of taking antihypertensive medications. The controlled hypertension was defined by systolic BP < 140 mmHg and diastolic BP of < 90 mmHg among the subjects that self-reported exhibiting hypertensive and taking antihypertensive medications. The associations between SES with hypertension prevalence and hypertension control were quantified using generalized mixed model regression analysis and reported as odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence interval (CI).Results: There was a high prevalence of subjects with primary educational level (49.6%) or unemployed and retired (49.5%) or lower annual household income level (44.9%) in each SES group, respectively. After adjustments for potential confounding factors, there were higher odds of hypertension among those with primary educational level (OR = 1.56), but lower odds for controlled BP (OR = 0.51). Higher odds of hypertension could be found among unemployed and retired, and higher odds of controlled BP was observed in the mental laborers or students (OR = 1.30), compared with the other categories, respectively. The lower-income group was more likely to be hypertensive (OR = 1.35) and less likely to have controlled hypertension (OR = 0.73).Conclusion: Socioeconomic status played an important role in hypertension prevalence and hypertension control among adults in Nanjing, China. Background: Salt stress threaten the growth of plants, and even aggravate plant disease. In this article, salt-tolerant Trichoderma strain was isolated, and its potential to alleviate salt stress and diminish cucumber root rot caused by Fusarium oxysporum was evaluated. Results: Twenty-seven Trichoderma isolates were isolated from samples of sea muds and algae collected from the South Sea of China. Among these, the isolate HN082102.1 showed the most excellent salt tolerance and antagonistic activity against F. oxysporum causing root rot in cucumber and was identified as T. atroviride. Its antagonism ability may be due to mycoparasitism and inhibition effect of volatile substances. The application of Trichoderma mitigated the adverse effects of salt stress and promoted the growth of cucumber under 100 mM and 200 mM NaCl, especially for the root. When T. atroviride HN082102.1 was applied, root fresh weights increased by 92.55 and 84.86%, respectively, and root dry weights increased by 75.71 and 53.31%, respectively. Meanwhile, the application of HN082102.1 reduced the disease index of cucumber root rot by 63.64 and 71.01% under 100- and 0-mM saline conditions, respectively, indicating that this isolate could inhibit cucumber root rot under salt stress. Conclusions: This is the first report of salt-tolerant T. atroviride isolated from marine habitat showing antagonistic activity to F. oxysporum, and the results provide evidence for the novel strain T. atroviride HN082102.1 in alleviating salt stress and diminishing cucumber root rot, indicating that T. atroviride strain HN082102.1 can be used as biological control agent in saline alkali land. At present, China's population aging presents the characteristics of large base, fast aging process, and old age, but the research and development of product aging design in China is relatively late, which brings additional pressure to the daily life of the elderly. In such an environment, higher requirements are put forward for product aging design and service provision. Only products or services that timely meet the personalized and diversified needs of different customers can attract customers and improve customer satisfaction. How to design aging products with satisfactory appearance and humanized function is the focus of current research. Based on the product quality division of Kano model, this paper summarizes the domestic mainstream products and their functions. The designed questionnaire data are summarized; reliability and validity analysis, as well as descriptive statistical analysis, is performed on this basis for the constructed product service quality evaluation system. Trichoderma spp. are widely distributed in natural habitats and have been evaluated as a potential biocontrol agent (BCA) for disease control and plant growth promotion. In this study, 1308 Trichoderma strains were obtained from the plant rhizosphere soil, above-ground plants, and decaying wood from natural habitats in China. Among them, 49 Trichoderma strains showed a good inhibitory effect, especially against Botrytis cinerea, Fusarium oxysporum, and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides with inhibition rate above 85% in the dual culture test. Among these 49 strains, the 13 strains with broad-spectrum inhibitory effects also significantly promoted the seed germination of five crops (rice, cucumber, tomato, melon, and pakchoi) and root growth of four crop seedlings (watermelon, tomato, eggplant, and chili). Furthermore, these strains showed effective colonization in the rhizosphere and root of cucumber. Trichoderma strains SC012 and NX043 showed the highest chitinase and β-1,3-glucanase activity among all strains. Based on the morphological characterization and phylogenetic analysis of the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and translation elongation factor 1 (tef1), twelve Trichoderma strains were identified as Trichoderma asperellum and one as Trichoderma afroharzianum. This article studies the influence of entrepreneurial spirit on college students' entrepreneurial ability and entrepreneurial values. Firstly, the impact of entrepreneurial psychology and entrepreneurial spirit on entrepreneurial values is analyzed. Secondly, the role of entrepreneurial values in innovation and entrepreneurship education is analyzed and summarized under new media. Then, based on entrepreneurial psychology and entrepreneurial spirit, a Questionnaire Survey (QS) is designed to investigate the entrepreneurial values of students in one university in Shaanxi Province, China. The QS analysis suggests that most respondents hold a positive attitude, and their attitude is on the rise. The QS results of "Reasons for entrepreneurial failure" show that 40.37, 31.9, 25.98, and 11.75% of respondents think they lack financial support, business skills, ability, and understanding of policies and laws, respectively. The QS results of "What factors influence entrepreneurial values?" reveal that 39.43% of the respondents chose the "Models of successful entrepreneurs," successful entrepreneur models can effectively encourage students to receive entrepreneurship education, followed by 28.94% who choose "Achieve their own life goals." In terms of "Solutions against entrepreneurial risks," nearly 70% of the students have chosen the negative options. In terms of "Which is the most important entrepreneurial quality?" more students choose entrepreneurial values rather than entrepreneurial quality, proving that students generally lack entrepreneurial values. Given these problems, corresponding countermeasures are put forward to strengthen entrepreneurial psychology and entrepreneurship education, in an attempt to cultivate college students' entrepreneurial values and entrepreneurial ability under the new media. Marek's disease (MD) continues to threaten the sustainability of the world poultry industry. In this study, the sequences of the meq gene of 220 MDV strains isolated during the years 1964–2020 were analysed, including 50 from our group plus 170 isolates from the GenBank. Analyses, using phylogenetic trees, amino acid (aa)‐mutation screening, evolutionary studies and transmission dynamics were all performed. All strains were divided into two clusters (Clusters 1 and 2), and Cluster 1 includes the mild strains, the vaccine strains and the foreign virulent strains, while Cluster 2 was dominated by the Chinese field strains. Our study identified that the Chinese field strains in Cluster 2 during the years 1995–2020 likely originated in the 1980s from abroad, and the estimated genetic diversity of these strains experienced two growth phases in the years 2005–2007.5 and 2015–2017. Viral phylogeography identified 3 major geographic provincial regions for the Chinese field strains of Cluster 2: the Northeastern Region (Jilin, Liaoning and Heilongjiang), the East‐central Region (Henan, Shandong and Jiangsu) and the Southern Region (Guangxi, Guangdong and Yunnan). The spread of Northeastern strains to East‐central chicken flocks and the further spread from Guangxi to Guangdong are strongly indicated. The emergence of the mutations A88T and Q93R together in the Southern strains during the years 2017–2020 with molecular characteristics of vv+ MDV were also found later than those in the Northern strains. Overall, the Chinese field strains in Cluster 2 in southern China in recent years have been rapidly evolving. Guangxi Province has become an epicentre for these viruses and the chicken flocks in the Southern region have been facing the adverse effects of the emerging vv+ MDV. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The prevalence of mental illness continues to increase in China, but research on stigma is still in its infancy, and there are even fewer studies on stigma among nurses. A comprehensive, effective and reliable tool is needed to assess stigma in nursing so that it can be reduced or eliminated to improve nursing quality. This study aimed to translate a 20-item scale for assessing the stigma of mental illness in nursing into Chinese and evaluate its reliability and validity. Methods: An improved Brislin translation model was used to translate the nursing mental illness stigma assessment scale into Chinese. Content and face validity were determined by a panel of experts. A convenience sample of 501 nursing students was chosen. Confirmatory factor analysis, concurrent validity and known group comparison were used to evaluate the scale's structural validity. The reliability was evaluated based on the internal consistency reliability and 2-week retest reliability. Results: The content validity index was 0.90. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that this study supported the three-factor model. The moderate correlation between the Chinese version of the Scale for Assessing the Stigma of Mental Illness in Nursing and the Perceived Devaluation Discrimination Scale suggested acceptable concurrent validity. Cronbach's α (0.863) and the retest coefficient (0.839) were indicative of internal consistency. Conclusion: The Chinese version of the Scale for Assessing the Stigma of Mental Illness in Nursing has acceptable concurrent validity, marginal factor validity, and satisfactory reliability in China. Therefore, the three-factor structure of the Chinese scale should be considered. The spectral clustering method has notable advantages in segmentation. But the high computational complexity and time consuming limit its application in large-scale and dense airborne Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) point cloud data. We proposed the Nyström-based spectral clustering (NSC) algorithm to decrease the computational burden. This novel NSC method showed accurate and rapid in individual tree segmentation using point cloud data. The K-nearest neighbour-based sampling (KNNS) was proposed for the Nyström approximation of voxels to improve the efficiency. The NSC algorithm showed good performance for 32 plots in China and Europe. The overall matching rate and extraction rate of proposed algorithm reached 69% and 103%. For all trees located by Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) calibrated tape-measures, the tree height regression of the matching results showed an value of 0.88 and a relative root mean square error (RMSE) of 5.97%. For all trees located by GNSS calibrated total-station measures, the values were 0.89 and 4.49%. The method also showed good performance in a benchmark dataset with an improvement of 7% for the average matching rate. The results demonstrate that the proposed NSC algorithm provides an accurate individual tree segmentation and parameter estimation using airborne LiDAR point cloud data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Using data collected from two provinces in China through an online survey, the current study aimed to investigate left‐behind children's emotional and academic adjustment during the COVID‐19 pandemic in China. The participants included 1780 left‐behind (960 boys) and 1500 non‐left‐behind (811 boys) children in elementary and junior high school with a mean age of 11.23. Self‐reported questionnaires concerning children's depression, loneliness, anxiety, and academic adjustment, and parents' coping with children's negative emotions were completed. The results suggested that compared with non‐left‐behind children, left‐behind children's depression and anxiety symptoms were more severe and their academic adjustment was poorer. However, left‐behind children had lower levels of loneliness than non‐left‐behind children. Additionally, supportive coping types, especially emotion‐focused and problem‐focused reactions, were significantly negatively correlated with children's depression and anxiety. Unsupportive coping types, especially distress and punitive reactions, were significantly positively correlated with children's depression and anxiety symptoms. Moreover, the relationships between punitive reactions and depression, ignoring and loneliness and problem‐focused reactions and academic adjustment were significantly stronger in left‐behind children. Hence, during the pandemic, left‐behind children were still at a disadvantage even with their parents' company. [Display omitted] Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and carbon dioxide primarily originate from the combustion of fossil fuels and biomass. The implementation of the Chinese "double carbon strategy" is expected to impact the distribution of PAH emissions, consequently influencing the spatial distribution trend of PAHs in surface soil. Therefore, it is crucial to quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of the Chinese "double carbon strategy" on soil PAH pollution for the purpose of "the reduction of pollution and carbon emissions". This study utilized 15,088 individual PAH concentration data from 943 soil samples collected between 2003 and 2020 in China, in conjunction with PAH emissions at a 10 km resolution, for meta -analysis. The calculated PAH emissions in this study are in line with the global PAH emission inventory (PKU-PAH-2007), with a relative standard deviation at the provincial level of less than 25 %. Subsequently, a novel method was developed using emission density and K ow of PAHs to predict PAH concentrations in surface soil based on a least-squares regression model. Compared to other environmental models, the method established in this study significantly reduced the percent sample deviation to less than 70 %. Furthermore, energy consumption data for China were simulated based on the implementation plan of the "double carbon strategy" to project PAH emissions and soil PAH levels for the years 2030 and 2060. The predicted PAH emissions in China were estimated to decrease to 41,300 t in 2030 and 10,406.5 t in 2060 from 78,815 t in 2020. Moreover, the heavily contaminated areas of soil PAHs (i.e., total PAH concentrations in soil exceeding 1000 μg kg−1) were projected to decrease by 45 % and 82 % in 2030 and 2060, respectively, compared to levels in 2020. A total of 83 dust samples were collected from the streets of Urumqi city in NW China and analyzed for the concentrations of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn elements. The spatial distribution, contamination levels, main sources, and potential health risks of these trace elements were determined based on geostatistical analysis, geo-accumulation index, multivariate analysis, and the health risk assessment model introduced by the USEPA, respectively. The obtained results indicate that the average concentrations of Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Zn exceed the corresponding background values determined in Xinjiang soils by factors of 2.0, 1.35, 1.38, 8.24, 1.28, 2.09, and 3.26, respectively. The spatial distribution patterns of the nine trace elements in street dust were found to be substantially heterogeneous, and the contamination level decreased in the following order: Hg > Zn > Pb > Cd > Cr > Cu > As > Ni > Mn. Based on the identified concentrations, the collected dust samples were found to be moderately polluted by Hg, and not polluted by As, Cr, Cu, Mn, and Ni. The remaining elements, Cd, Pb, and Zn lie on the borderline between non-pollution and moderate pollution levels. Furthermore, it was shown that Mn and Zn in street dusts originate from both, natural and anthropogenic sources, while As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, and Pb are mainly produced by anthropogenic sources. Overall, the carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic health risks of the analyzed elements, instigated primarily by oral ingestion of street dusts, were found to be within the acceptable range for both, children and adults. Geographic variation in body size is common within many animal species. The causes of this pattern, however, remain largely unexplored in most vertebrate groups. Bats are widely distributed globally owing to their ability of powered flight. Most bat species encounter a variety of climatic conditions across their distribution range, making them an ideal taxon for the study of ecogeographic patterns in body size. Here, we used adult least horseshoe bats, Rhinolophus pusillus , to test whether geographic variation in body size was determined by heat conservation, heat dissipation, climatic seasonality, or primary productivity. We measured body mass and head-body length for 246 adult bats from 12 allopatric colonies in China. We quantified the ecological conditions inhabited by each colony, including mean maximum temperature of the warmest month, mean minimum temperature of the coldest month, temperature seasonality, precipitation seasonality, and annual net primary productivity (ANPP). Body mass and head-body length, 2 of the most reliable indicators of body size, exhibited marked differences between colonies. After controlling for spatial autocorrelation, the mean minimum temperature of the coldest month explained most of the variation in body size among colonies, regardless of sex. The mean maximum temperature, climatic seasonality, and ANPP had limited power in predicting body size of males or females in comparison with mean minimum temperature. These results support the heat conservation hypothesis and suggest adaptive responses of body size to cold climates in cave-dwelling bats. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A suite of instruments was deployed to simultaneously measure nitrous acid (HONO), nitrogen oxides (NOx = NO + NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O3), volatile organic compounds (VOCs – including formaldehyde, HCHO) and meteorological parameters near a typical industrial zone in Nanjing in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region of China from 1 to 31 December 2015. High levels of HONO were detected using a wet-chemistry-based method. HONO ranged from 0.03 to 7.04 ppbv with an average of 1.32±0.92 ppbv. Elevated daytime HONO was frequently observed with a minimum of several hundred parts per trillion by volume (pptv) on average, which cannot be explained by the homogeneous OH + NO reaction (POH+NO) and primary emissions (Pemission), especially during periods with high particulate matter (PM 2.5) loadings. HONO chemistry and its impact on the atmospheric oxidation capacity in the study area were further investigated using a Master Chemical Mechanism (MCM) box model. The results show that the average hydroxyl radical (OH) production rate was dominated by the photolysis of HONO (7.13×106 molec. cm -3 s -1), followed by the ozonolysis of alkenes (3.94×106 molec. cm -3 s -1), the photolysis of O3 (2.46×106 molec. cm -3 s -1) and the photolysis of HCHO (1.60×106 molec. cm -3 s -1) during the campaign period, especially within plumes that originated from the industrial zone. Model simulations indicated that heterogeneous chemistry played an important role in HONO formation. The average nighttime NO2 to HONO conversion rate was determined to be ∼0.8 % h -1. A good correlation between nocturnal HONO/NO2 and the product of particle surface area density (S/V) and relative humidity (RH), S/V⋅RH , supports the heterogeneous NO2/H2O reaction mechanism. The other HONO source, designated as Punknonwn , was about twice as high as POH+NO on average and displayed a diurnal profile with an evidently photo-enhanced feature, i.e., photosensitized reactions of NO2 may be an important daytime HONO source. Nevertheless, our results suggest that daytime HONO formation was mostly due to the light-induced conversion of NO2 on aerosol surfaces, whereas heterogeneous NO2 reactions on the ground surface dominated nocturnal HONO production. Our study indicated that an elevated PM 2.5 level during haze events can promote the conversion of NO2 to HONO by providing more heterogeneous reaction sites, thereby increasing the atmospheric oxidation capacity, which may further promote the formation of secondary air pollutants. Highlights: High levels of HONO, with an average of 1.32±0.92 ppbv, were observed near one of the largest industrial zones in the YRD region of China. HONO photolysis and alkene ozonolyses contributed the most to OH production and, hence, the atmospheric oxidation capacity. Although numerous studies have reported the influencing factors of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in surface soil from source, process or soil perspectives, the mechanism of PAHs heterogeneity in surface soil are still not well understood. In this study, the effects of 16 PAHs in surface soil of China sampled between 2003 and 2020 with their 17 "source-process-sink" factors at 1 km resolution (N = 660)) were explored using deep learning (eXtreme Gradient Boosting) to mine key information from complex dataset under the optimized parameters (i.e., learning rate = 0.05, maximum depth = 5, sub-sample = 0.8). It was observed that top five factors of 16 PAH had the largest cumulative contribution (i.e., from 84.8% to 98.1%) on their soil concentrations. PAH emission was the predominant driver, and its effect on soil PAH increases with increasing log K ow. Soil was the second driver, in which clay can promote the partition of PAHs with low or middle log K ow. However, sand can accumulate those congeners with high log K ow. Moreover, the deep learning plus geo-statistical models (with low deviation for testing dataset (N = 283)) were capable of predicting soil PAH concentrations using their drivers with high accuracy. This study improved the understanding of the environmental fate and spatial variability of soil PAHs, as well as provided a novel technique (i.e., deep learning coupled with geo-statistics) for accurate prediction of soil pollutants. There is limited evidence regarding the effectiveness of online parenting programs for preventing child maltreatment in low- and middle-income countries. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the online Parenting for Lifelong Health for Young Children (PLH-YC) program in preventing child maltreatment among Chinese families specifically. A quasi-experiment was conducted, wherein 274 parents with children aged 2–9 years were assigned to either the online PLH-YC group (n = 135) or a waitlist control group (n = 139). Data were collected at baseline and one week after intervention. A difference-in-differences (DiD) design with propensity score weighting was used to estimate the between-group difference for child maltreatment as well as the associated risk and protective factors. Compared to the parents in the control group, parents in the online PLH-YC intervention reported a significant reduction in the occurrence of corporal punishment (b = −1.21; 95 % CI [−2.37, −0.03]), emotional abuse (b = −3.09; 95 % CI [−5.36, −0.82]), and general maltreatment (b = −4.94; 95 % CI [−8.86, −1.02]) as well as an increased frequency of positive parenting strategies (b = 6.46; 95 % CI [2.21, 10.72]). Additionally, parents with high levels of depressive symptoms were significantly more likely to drop out of the program, and those with lower education levels engaged in fewer sessions. The online PLH-YC program can benefit families with young children by reducing the incidence of child maltreatment through improved positive parenting strategies. Chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) occupies a critical part in biogeochemistry and energy flux of aquatic ecosystems. CDOM research spans in many fields, including chemistry, marine environment, biomass cycling, physics, hydrology, and climate change. In recent years, a series of remarkable research milestone have been achieved. On the basis of reviewing the research process of CDOM, combined with a bibliometric analysis, this study aims to provide a comprehensive review of the development and applications of remote sensing in monitoring CDOM from 2003 to 2022. The findings show that remote sensing data plays an important role in CDOM research as proven with the increasing number of publications since 2003, particularly in China and the United States. Primary research areas have gradually changed from studying absorption and fluorescence properties to optimization of remote sensing inversion models in recent years. Since the composition of oceanic and freshwater bodies differs significantly, it is important to choose the appropriate inversion method for different types of water body. At present, the monitoring of CDOM mainly relies on a single sensor, but the fusion of images from different sensors can be considered a major research direction due to the complex characteristics of CDOM. Therefore, in the future, the characteristics of CDOM will be studied in depth inn combination with multi-source data and other application models, where inversion algorithms will be optimized, inversion algorithms with low dependence on measured data will be developed, and a transportable inversion model will be built to break the regional limitations of the model and to promote the development of CDOM research in a deeper and more comprehensive direction.
