Background: Evidence regarding the relationship between fasting blood glucose (FBG) and suicide attempts (SA) in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) was limited. Therefore, the objective of this research was to investigate whether FBG was independently related to SA in Chinese patients with first-episode drug-naïve (FEDN) MDD after adjusting for other covariates. Methods: The present study was a cross-sectional study. A total of 1718 participants (average age: 34.9 ± 12.4 years, 65.8% females) with FEDN MDD were involved in a hospital in China from September 2016 to December 2018. Multiple logistic regression analysis and smooth curve fitting were used to estimate the association between FBG and the risk of SA. The threshold effect was examined by the two-piecewise linear regression model. Interaction and stratified analyses were conducted according to sex, education, marital status, comorbid anxiety, and psychotic symptoms. Results: The prevalence of SA in patients with FEDN MDD was 20.1%. The result of fully adjusted binary logistic regression showed FBG was positively associated with the risk of SA (odds ratio (OR) = 1.62, 95% CI: 1.13–2.32). Smoothing plots also revealed a nonlinear relationship between FBG and SA, with the inflection point of FBG being 5.34 mmol/l. The effect sizes and the confidence intervals on the left and right sides of the inflection point were 0.53 (0.32–0.88, P = 0.014) and 1.48 (1.04–2.10, P = 0.030), respectively. Conclusions: A U-shaped relationship between FBG and SA in FEDN MDD patients was found, with the lowest risk of SA at a FBG of 5.34 mmol/l, indicating that both the lower and higher FBG levels may lead to an increased risk of SA. Background: The incidence of stroke in China ranks first in the world and is the leading cause of death and disability in adults. Urinary incontinence is an independent risk factor leading to poor prognosis of stroke. However, studies on the incidence of urinary incontinence in stroke patients and its influencing factors are different, fluctuate greatly, and there is no unified basis. Objective: To quantitatively analyze the incidence of urinary incontinence in stroke patients and its related influencing factors, and further make public health strategic decisions to reduce the occurrence of adverse outcomes. Methods: Computer searches were conducted in PubMed, Medline, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, CLNAHL Complete, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Biomedical database(CBM), Wan Fang Database, VIP Database, observational studies such as cohort studies, case‐control studies or cross‐sectional studies on the incidence or influencing factors of urinary incontinence in stroke patients from the establishment of the database to the publication in August 2023. Studies selection, quality evaluation and data extraction were conducted independently by two researchers according to the established search strategy. Stata 14.0 statistical software was used for meta‐analysis. Results: A total of 21 manuscripts were included, with a cumulative sample size of 7327 cases, including 2887 patients with urinary incontinence. Meta‐analysis results showed that the incidence of urinary incontinence in stroke patients was 38% [95% confidence interval (34%, 41%)], including married patients and lacunar infarction were the protective factors for urinary incontinence in stroke patients, while age, chaperone, low educational level, chronic cough, lesion sites (parietal lobe, frontal lobe, and temporal lobe), stroke type (cerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage and cerebral hemorrhage complicated with subarachnoid hemorrhage), dysfunction (aphasia dyslexia, dysphagia, eye movement abnormalities, leg muscle disorders), post‐stroke depression, the higher the NIHSS score, the lower the Bachmann index (BI) score, OCSP classification (total anterior circulation infarction) and other 11 items were risk factors for urinary incontinence in stroke patients. Conclusion: The incidence of urinary incontinence in stroke patients is 38%. Marriage and lacunar infarction are the protective factors of urinary incontinence. As semi‐enclosed and shallow seas, the Bohai and Yellow Seas (hereafter, BYS) marine ecosystems are more easily affected by natural and anthropogenic climate changes than those in the open oceans. An accurate assessment of sea surface temperature (SST) change is crucial for the near‐shore water environment. In this work, new high‐quality monthly mean SST time series from 11 in situ coastal hydrological stations at BYS for the period of 1960–2012 have been generated. Monthly mean SST time series were initially subjected to penalized maximal t (PMT) test, using homogeneous monthly mean surface air temperature (SAT) series as references. Homogenized monthly mean SST series were obtained by adjusting all significant change points which have been supported by historic metadata. Our study shows that there are 29 significant change points in these 11 SST series. The majority of them are caused by instrument changes and station relocations—both account for about 51.7 and 31%, respectively. Then, homogeneous SST series are used to assess the long‐term trends. As the regional average, the annual mean homogeneous SST series shows a rapid warming trend, with the rate of 0.21°C/decade. Compared to the homogeneous SST series, the original SST series underestimate the long‐term trend (only 0.13°C/decade), indicating the artificial change points usually result in a warm‐bias in the early period measurements. Seasonally, the most significant warming occurs in boreal winter during the period analysed. The relationships of the significant warming in boreal winter and atmospheric circulation modes have also been investigated. In order to smooth ore production during the transition from open pit to underground mining at Yanqianshan Iron Mine, China, it is necessary to select an appropriate mining method to operate simultaneously open-pit mining and underground mining for inner-slope (hanging-wall) ore-body. Based on practical geologic setting of the hanging-wall ore-body, a comprehensive evaluation model for selecting the underground mining method to extract handing-wall ore-body was proposed, which is constituted by 3 sub-systems of safety factors, production factors and technical-economic factors. This evaluation model could be analyzed by the mutation progression method, which based on catastrophe theory and fuzzy mathematics. In addition, the FLAC is employed to simulate the mining process of hanging-wall ore-body, and finally the optimal mining scheme is determined. By using mutation progression analysis and numerical modeling, some useful conclusions for hanging-wall ore-body mining have been drawn, which will be beneficial to mining safety during transitional period from open-pit to underground mining. Abstract: The Yaojia Formation recovered by CCSD-SK-Is borehole (China Cretaceous Continental Scientific Drilling-SongkeI-the south borehole) is 157.67 m long and 99.96% of cores recovery. The age of the formation corresponds with a range from the Santonian to the early Campanian. The sequences and processes of lithology-lithofacies and cyclic stratigraphy are revealed by a detailed core description. Eleven rock types and three kinds of sedimentary subfacies, including shallow lake, deep lake, and delta front, are recognized from the drilling core. There are eleven sedimentary microfacies including dolostone, argillaceous limestone, shallow lake turbidite, deep lake turbidite, subaqueous mouth bar, distal bar, sheet sandstone, subaqueous distributary bay, slump deposits, shallow lake mudstone, and deep lake mudstone. The Yaojia Formation represents one hundred and fifty-one meter-scale cycles (sixth-order cycle), forty-five fifth-order cycles, nine fourth-order cycles, and three third-order cycles. Meticulous depiction (centimeter level) of the whole Formation provides an approach to study its sedimentary process with high precision. The red beds with a thickness of 43% in the Yaojia Formation, being one of fewer continental red beds depicted meticulously in the world, will become a standard of potential formulation section for the studies of Cretaceous global oxygen-enriched events. • A novel environmental multimedia model (EMM) is developed to assess the risks of antibiotics in river basin system. • This EMM approach is integrated with numerical water quality simulation for spatially analyzing the river network system. • The spatial and temporal distribution of antibiotics in environmental media is given by the developed modeling method. In this paper, a regional spatial environmental multimedia modeling (RSEMM) approach is developed based on the integration of an environmental multimedia method (EMM) and a numerical water quality model. Emissions, inter-media mass transfer, physical transport and degradation processes are considered in the modeling system. The RSEMM approach is applied to the Beijing-Tianjin area in China, where there are many antibiotic emission sources throughout the Haihe River Basin including six streams. The antibiotic sulfadiazine (SDZ) is selected as the target contaminant in this basin region, including the urban area of Tianjin City. The predicted SDZ concentrations in the water and sediment zones align well with the reported monitoring data. A sensitivity analysis, using the Morris screening method, shows that flow rate and active sediment depth are the significant influential parameters for the regional water and sediment zones. Two modeling scenarios are further performed to assess health risks. They show that the SDZ concentrations and risks in the impacted environmental media could be reduced by possible mitigation actions. The RSEMM approach can also be applied to find the source-response relation in order to control other emerging contaminants in a complicated environmental multimedia site. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Existing auxetic honeycomb meta-structures are generally integrated structures with complicated microstructural geometry which hence should be fabricated by costly additive manufacturing (AM) technology. The high cost and low production efficiency of AM technology is still the main bottleneck restricting the engineering applications of such kind of structures. In this work, a prefabricated auxetic honeycomb meta-structure with modularized components was proposed based on mortise and tenon (M&R) principle originated in ancient China. The modularized components of the prefabricated auxetic honeycomb are all tubular structures which can be easily fabricated by traditional manufacturing with low cost and high technical maturity. The mechanical properties of the proposed meta-structure were then detailed investigated numerically under quasi-static and dynamic loading conditions. The referenced integrated auxetic honeycomb meta-structure was also considered as a benchmark for comparison. Results show that the proposed prefabricated design exhibits lower strength and stiffness compared with its integrated counterpart, owing to the introduction of more flexibility. Consequently, the proposed design processes a much more stable stress plateau stage with a larger deformation range and effectively reduces the reactive force of the protected structure. Marine heatwaves (MHWs) are becoming more frequent and intense in many regions around the world. However, the MHWs over China's marginal seas and associated physical drivers are largely unknown. During August 2016, the Yellow Sea experienced the most intense MHW on record since 1982. Here, we used a set of high-resolution satellite data and reanalysis products to examine the characteristics of the MHW in August 2016 and analyze the potential influencing factors from atmospheric perspective. MHW was directly caused by great-than-normal solar radiation and much weaker wind speeds which reduced upper oceanic mixing and caused substantial warming of the stratified surface layer. These anomalies were associated with an unusually fractured western Pacific subtropical high (WPSH) and the distinctly more active transmission of Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) eastward to the western Pacific in August 2016. The MJO triggered more frequent tropical cyclones, splitting the WPSH into two parts. The western segment of the WPSH combined with the continental high to form an abnormally positive geopotential height at the west of 120°E, causing strong subsiding flows at its east and extremely high solar radiation. An unambiguous cyclonic circulation anomaly in the lower troposphere, encompassing much of the northwestern Pacific, reduced the surface wind speed in the Yellow Sea. Therefore, MJO was critical to driving the extreme MHW in August 2016 in the Yellow Sea. • During August 2016, the Yellow Sea experienced the most intense MHW on record since 1982. • The MHW was directly driven by more solar radiation and weaker wind speeds. • The unusually fractured WPSH and active transmission of MJO played the critical role in leading anomalous heat and wind. Eltrombopag combined with immunosuppressive therapy (IST) was superior to IST alone for severe aplastic anemia (SAA) in the previous studies. But in China, horse antithymocyte globulin (hATG) is not available, instead, we use rabbit ATG (rATG). Here, we compared the efficacy and safety of IST (rATG combined with cyclosporine) combined with or without eltrombopag for the first-line treatment of SAA and very severe aplastic anemia (VSAA). A total of 371 patients in ten institutions in China from April 1, 2017 to December 1, 2022 were enrolled. The overall response (OR) rate at 3 months (54.2% vs. 41%; P = 0.046), the complete response (CR) (31.3% vs. 19.4%; P = 0.041) and OR (78.3% vs. 51.1%; P < 0.0001) rates at 6 months were significantly higher with IST combined with eltrombopag than with IST alone in SAA patients. While in VSAA patients, the addition of eltrombopag to IST only increased the CR rate at 6 months (29.8% vs. 9.43%; P = 0.010). Liver injury increased significantly in groups treated with IST combined with eltrombopag (P < 0.05). Serious treatment-related toxicities were similar (P > 0.05). In patients with SAA, 3-year failure-free survival (FFS) of eltrombopag combined with IST group was significantly higher than that of IST group (70.7 ± 5.3% vs. 50.3 ± 3.9%; P = 0.007). In patients with VSAA, the addition of eltrombopag significantly improved 3-year overall survival (OS) (82.2 ± 5.7% vs. 57.3 ± 7.2%; P = 0.020). Our findings suggested that IST combined with eltrombopag could improve the hematological recovery of newly diagnosed SAA without increasing severe toxicities. But in VSAA, the addition of eltrombopag seemed to show no other improvement to efficacy except the CR rate at 6 months., (© 2024. Surface runoff decrease (SRD) and sediment concentration change (SCC) are accountable for sediment reduction by anti-erosion strategies. Using a design of horizontal stages, contour trenches, fish-scale pits, as well as their combinations, this study evaluated the two components for sediment reduction after the implementation of various land management strategies on steep spoil tips. The study highlighted the interactions between SRD and SCC in reducing sediment, and characterized the temporal variations of sediment-reducing capacity by SRD and SCC. Results showed that slope erosion was well controlled with control ratios of sediment yield ranging from 0.4 to 0.59, 0.2 to 0.22, for horizontal stage- and contour trench-based strategies, respectively. Sediment-reducing benefit by SRD accounted for 52%-77% of the total sediment reduction and highly determined the performance of SCC. Quadratic relationships between sediment-reducing capacity by SCC and that by SRD were observed. The function of SCC only operated when the sediment-reducing capacity by SRD reached a certain threshold. These thresholds varied greatly in the range of 0.75 kg m -3 -0.91 kg m -3 and 0.61 kg m -3 -0.66 kg m -3 for horizontal stage- and contour trench-based strategies, respectively. The upper limits for sediment-reducing capacity by SCC varied in the range of 0.32 kg m -3 -0.44 kg m -3 and 0.63 kg m -3 -0.76 kg m -3 for horizontal stage- and contour trench-based strategies, respectively. An efficiency coefficient of 55% and an M-N ratio of 1:1 indicated that sediment-reducing benefits by SRD and SCC were effectively exerted by combining contour trenches and fish-scale pits. The findings emphasized that the application of land management strategies must be considered based on particular goals to restore spoil tips. In practice, if targeted to enhancing sediment-reducing efficiency, contour trenches and fish-scale pits should be primarily considered.
