Simple Summary: In China, high-grain diets for ruminants due to forage scarcity cause metabolic disorders. Yeast culture promotes rumen health by stabilizing microbial composition and enhancing nutrition and immunity. Therefore, the objective of this experiment was mainly to investigate the effect of the addition of two different species of yeast culture on goat production performance, rumen fermentation profile, microbial balance, and immunity under high-grain conditions. The results indicated that the incorporation of yeast culture into a high-grain diet significantly enhanced the production performance of goats, augmented their immunity, and stabilized the rumen environment. However, different types of yeast cultures acted by different mechanisms. The results provide a reference for the rational application of yeast culture in production. It is a common practice among farmers to utilize high-grain diets with the intention of promoting ruminant growth. However, this approach bears the risk of inducing rumen disorders and nutrient metabolism diseases. Yeast culture (YC) showed advantages in ruminant applications. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of adding two different types of YC to high-grain conditions on production performance, rumen fermentation profile, microbial abundance, and immunity in goats. A total of 30 male goats with similar body condition were randomly distributed into 3 dietary treatments with 10 replicates per treatment as follows: basic diet group (CON); basic diet + 0.5% yeast culture 1 (YC1) group; basic diet + 0.5% yeast culture 2 (YC2) group. The trial lasted for 36 days. The results demonstrated that dietary YC supplementation led to an increase in the average daily gain and a reduction in feed intake and weight gain ratio in goats. It increased the apparent digestibility of crude protein, NDF, and ADF (p < 0.05). The serum concentrations of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and Tumor Necrosis Factor-α in the control group were significantly higher than those of the YC groups (p < 0.05). The serum concentrations of Immunoglobulin (Ig)A and IgG in the control group were significantly lower than those in the YC groups (p < 0.05). The rumen concentration of microbial protein (MCP) in the control group was significantly lower than that in the YC groups (p < 0.05). There was a negative correlation between the concentration of IL-10 and Bacteroidota, Spirochaetota, and Succinivibrio, while there was a positive correlation between concentrations of IL-10 and Firmicutes. Nevertheless, discrepancies were observed in the impact of the two different types of YC on the physiological and biochemical indicators of the animals. The concentration of triglyceride in the YC1 group was significantly higher than that of the CON and YC2 groups, while the concentration of urea in the YC2 group was significantly higher than that of the CON and YC1 groups (p < 0.05). At the phylum level, the addition of YC2 to the diet significantly increased the relative abundance of Bacteroidota and Fibrobacterota and significantly decreased Firmicutes compared to the control. At the genus level, the addition of YC1 to the HGD significantly reduced the relative abundance of Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group, while the addition of YC2 to the HGD significantly increased the relative abundance of Prevotellace-ae_UCG-001, Fibrobacter, and Prevotellaceae_UCG-003 (p < 0.05). The addition of YC significantly improved growth performance, increased nutrient digestibility, beneficially manipulated ruminal fermentation and microbial diversity, and improved immune function. To improve the remediation of heavy metal pollution by typical wetland vegetation and maintain the health of wetland ecosystems under the water-sediment regulation scheme (WSRS) application, we evaluated the potential ecological risk of heavy metals in surface sediment in the Yellow River estuary affected by the WSRS. The ranges of Cr, Cu, Zn, Cd, and Pb content in surface sediment were 52.44–100.80 mg·kg−1 dry weight (DW), 16.38–21.19 mg·kg−1 DW, 64.77–255.50 mg·kg−1 DW, 0.12–0.24 mg·kg−1 DW, and 5.40–8.63 mg·kg−1 DW, respectively, and potential ecological risk coefficients showed that Cd was associated with moderate potential risk. We further examined effects of Cd in a greenhouse experiment to explore the influence of short-term Cd input and water logging condition changes induced by WSRS on the Cd absorption characteristics of Suaeda salsa (L.) Pall in the Yellow River estuary. The results showed that total biomass decreased but Cd content in tissue of S. salsa increased with increasing Cd input and the accumulation factor reached maximum values at 100 μg·L−1 of Cd, indicating that S. salsa efficiently accumulated Cd. Water logging depth significantly affected S. salsa growth and Cd absorption with deeper water logging being detrimental to growth. The interaction effect of Cd input and water logging depth on Cd content and accumulation factor was significant. These results suggest that WSRS caused short-term heavy metal input and changes in water conditions affect wetland vegetation growth and heavy metal absorption in the downstream estuary. Changes in natural rainfall characterized by heavy precipitation and high rainfall intensity would increase the risks and uncertainty of nutrients losses. Losses of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) with water erosion from agriculture-related activities has become the principal nutrients resulting the eutrophication of water bodies. However, a little attention has been paid to the loss characteristic of N and P responding to natural rainfall in widely used contour ridge systems. To explore the loss mechanism of N and P in contour ridge system, nutrient loss associated with runoff and sediment yield was observed in in situ runoff plots of sweet potato (SP) and peanut (PT) contour ridges under natural rainfall. Rainfall events were divided into light rain, moderate rain, heavy rain, rainstorm, large rainstorm, and extreme rainstorm level, and rainfall characteristics for each rainfall level were recorded. Results showed that rainstorm, accounting for 46.27% of the total precipitation, played a destructive role in inducing runoff, sediment yield, and nutrient loss. The average contribution of rainstorm to sediment yield (52.30%) was higher than that to runoff production (38.06%). Rainstorm respectively generated 43.65–44.05% of N loss and 40.71–52.42% of P loss, although light rain induced the greatest enrichment value for total nitrogen (TN, 2.44–4.08) and PO4-P (5.40). N and P losses were dominated by sediment, and up to 95.70% of the total phosphorus and 66.08% of TN occurred in sediment. Nutrient loss exhibited the highest sensitivity to sediment yield compared to runoff and rainfall variables, and a significant positive linear relationship was observed between nutrient loss and sediment yield. SP contour ridge presented higher nutrient loss than that in PT contour ridge, especially for P loss. Pumpkin is one of the region's main cashcrops in northeast China cultivated for its edible seed and sarcocarp. Gummy stem blight (GSB), caused by the main pathogenic fungus of Stagonosporopsis cucurbitacearum (Sc.) which was identified in our previous study, has hampered pumpkin industry development with the affection of its reduced biological yield and edible quality. To clear the plant immune response mechanisms against Sc. infection, RNA-seq technology was employed to sequence pumpkin leaf transcriptome, the total number of distinct differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the treatments and control was 2351, 4892, 5285, 4698, and 4213 for 2, 6, 12, 24, and 96 h treatments, respectively. KEGG analysis results revealed 16 distinct significantly up-regulated DEGs associated with MAPK signaling and plant-pathogen interaction pathways that may actively participate in Sc. infection-associated processes, while other five DEGs exhibited significantly altered expression during GSB infection. An apyrase-like gene, Gene3360 (LOC111476496), with significantly different expression levels, was possessing an early-stage primary infection-based function, which was hypothesized an important role in the resistance of pumpkin to Sc. infection. Climate change has resulted in a continuous increase in the frequency and intensity of chilling events in cold regions. In Northeast China, chilling at the booting and flowering stages negatively affects japonica rice grain yield. In this field experiment study, we conducted a 2‐year temperature‐controlled experiment to investigate the effects of chilling temperature and duration applied at the booting and flowering stages on japonica rice. The results showed that chilling at the two study stages delayed the rice phenology and decreased the grain yield. In particular, japonica rice was more sensitive to chilling at the booting stage than at the flowering stage. The rice grain yield was reduced by more as the chilling temperature decreased and the chilling duration increased. As for the yield components, the spikelet fertility and grain number per spike were more sensitive to chilling at the booting stage than at the flowering stage. Variations in the grain yield per plant were primarily contributed by the differences in spikelet fertility and grain number per spike, especially the spikelet fertility. In addition, cooling degree days showed statistically significant negative correlations with grain yield per plant, grain number per spike and spikelet fertility. For every 10°C·day increase in CDD at the booting (flowering) stage, the grain yield per plant, spikelet fertility and grain number per spike decreased by 7.1%, 6.2% and 3.4% (3.9%, 5.0% and 1.2%) respectively. As the spikelet fertility and grain number per spike decreased, the sink capacity decreased as well with the increasing of allocated assimilation to the stem and leaf while decreasing the assimilation allocated to the panicle. Increasing cooling degree days at the booting and flowering stages increased the allocations of assimilation to the stem and leaf. As a result, less assimilation was allocated to the panicle. This study suggests that breeding cultivars to improve the spikelet fertility and grain number per spike could help to minimize the potential rice grain yield loss due to the increase in chilling events occurring at the booting and flowering stages. Physalis alkekengi L. var. franchetii (PALF) is a traditional Chinese medicine, which is well known for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and expectorant properties. Its fruits and fruiting calyxes are used as dietary supplements and traditional herbs in China. However, the quality of calyxes is uneven, and it is prone to getting moldy or moth-eaten during storage. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) fingerprints and multivariate chemometric methods were combined to evaluate quality, and three representative compounds were chosen as the quality markers (Q-markers). Hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) and principal component analysis (PCA) provided a clear discrimination of PALF samples. Through further verification by partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), backpropagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN), machine learning, and combination with the determination of the content, biology, and pharmacology effect judgment, galuteolin, rutin, and physalin O could be used as Q-markers that their contents affect the quality of PALF grade evaluation. A simple method was established to rapidly assess the quality of PALF that is important for its clinical application and storage and provide a reference for evaluating the quality of materials used in Chinese medicine. The hereditary basis and identification of novel genes of heading date have significant implications for japonica rice improvement in northeast China, especially in Heilongjiang province. A re‐sequenced recombinant inbred line (RIL) population derived from the cross between Lijiangxintuanheigu (LTH) and Shennong 265 (SN265) was used to detect the genetic basis for the RIL in 2017 and 2018. Fourteen heading date quantitative trait loci (QTLs), including nine in 2017 and thirteen in 2018, were detected with a linkage map containing 2,818 bin markers. They were distributed on chromosomes 3, 4, 6 and 9–11 with 9.34%–25.26% phenotypic variations. The QTLs qHD3a, qHD4a, qHD4b, qHD4c, qHD9b, qHD10, qHD11c and qHD11d were identified in both years. The qTRS1, qTRS3a (qHD3a), qTRS3b (qHD3b) and qTRS9 (qHD9a) alleles from LTH and the qTRS4 allele from SN265 were identified by controlling the temperature responsiveness in the RIL population. The explained phenotypic variation in these five QTLs varied from 14.52% to 26.31%. In order to accurately determine the difference in heading date under different temperature conditions, the RILs and two parents were grown in a phytotron. Four QTLs controlling temperature responsiveness were identified on chromosomes 3, 6 and 9, including qTRS3a (qHD3a), qTRS3b (qHD3b), qTRS6 and qTRS9 (qHD9a). In a different environment, qTRS3a (qHD3a), qTRS3b (qHD3b) and qTRS9 (qHD9a) were detected. A comparison of chromosomal locations between the QTLs detected in this study and heading date genes previously cloned indicated that DTH3, Hd16, RFL, HAF1, Ehd2 and RBS1 might be candidate genes for them. The four major heading date genes (Hd1, Ghd7, Ghd7.1 and Ghd8) affecting ecogeographical adaptation were sequenced between SN265 and LTH. SN265 carried a functional Hd1 haplotype, a weak functional Ghd7 haplotype, a weak functional Ghd7.1 haplotype and a weak functional Ghd8 haplotype. LTH also carried functional Hd1 haplotype, a weak functional Ghd7 haplotype, a non‐functional Ghd7.1 haplotype and a non‐functional Ghd8 haplotype. The combinations of the Hd1, Ghd7, Ghd7.1 and Ghd8 alleles in SN265 and LTH largely defined their short heading date under long‐day conditions. The selection of heading date gene combinations with functional Hd1 alleles and non‐functional alleles or weak functional alleles of Ghd7, Ghd7.1 and Ghd8 would be an effective way to improve japonica rice with proper heading days in Northeast China. The introduction of wheat into central China is thought to have been one of the significant contributions of interactions between China and Central Asia which began in the 3rd millennium bc. However, only a limited number of Neolithic wheat grains have been found in central China and even fewer have been directly radiocarbon dated, making the date when wheat was adopted in the region and its role in subsistence farming uncertain. Based on systematic archaeobotanical data and direct dating of wheat remains from the Xiazhai site in central China, as well as a critical review of all reported discoveries of Neolithic and Bronze Age wheat from this region, we conclude that many wheat finds are intrusive in Neolithic contexts. We argue that the role of wheat in the subsistence of the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age of central China was minimal, and that wheat only began to increase in its subsistence role in the later Bronze Age during the Zhou dynasty after ca. 1000 bc. The rapid growth of maritime traffic, transportation, and fishery activities has increased shipping emissions and degraded the air quality in coastal areas. As a result, controlling ocean-based pollution sources have become increasingly important. This study investigated the real-world emission characteristics of oxygenated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (OPAHs, a group of highly toxic semi-volatile organic compounds) from five types of offshore ships using diesel oil: small and medium fishing ships, tug boats, ferry, and engineering ships, under various driving mode. Both gaseous and particle emission factors (EF) of four specific OPAHs were determined in our study. Among the OPAHs species emitted from ships, 9-fluorenone (9FO; 72%) and anthrathrace-9,10-quinone (ATQ; 25%) were the most abundant. The arithmetic mean of the sum of gaseous OPAHs EFs for all ships in this study was 2.5 ± 4.4 mg/kg fuel burned, and the mean particulate OPAHs EF was 4.7 ± 7.9 mg/kg. Small fishing ships had the highest total OPAHs EFs (31.0 ± 17.0 mg/kg). Apart from small fishing ships, there was no significant difference in the total EF of OPAHs for the other four types of ships. The emissions of the four OPAHs are predominantly in the particulate phase. There were no significant differences in the emissions of the four OPAHs under different driving mode. According to estimates, the annual OPAH emissions from the four types of ships in Hainan in 2017 were approximately 4.2 (range: 2.7–7.0) tons, dwarfing the OPAH emissions from diesel-powered on-road vehicles in China (23.5 kg). Aim: The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) on physical function and health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) in China. Method: A cross‐section survey was conducted in 21 general hospitals in China. Eight hundred and seven patients were recruited. Data on demographics, clinical data, physical function (Stanford Health Assessment Questionnaire Disability Index, HAQ‐DI) and HRQoL (Study Short Form 36 Health Survey, SF‐36) were collected on site. Results: In our cohort, physical function was impaired in 77.6% of patients (HAQ‐DI >0). The median (interquartile range, IQR) of HAQ‐DI was 0.750 (0.125, 1.500). Rated by HAQ‐DI 0‐1, >1‐2, and >2‐3, percentage of patients with mild, moderate and severe disability was 61.0%, 25.4%, and 13.6%, respectively. Older age, long disease duration, presence of extra‐articular manifestations, tender joint count (TJC), overall status (assessed by patient Global Visual Analogue Scale [G‐VAS] and physician G‐VAS) and lacking disease‐modifying anti‐rheumatic drugs were identified as predictive factors for worse physical function (P < .05). The composite scores of SF‐36 in the observed patients were: physical component summary 40.4 (IQR 27.4, 60.3), and mental component summary 49.0 (IQR 33.6, 70.9). Impaired physical health may be predicted by low income, presence of extra‐articular manifestations, TJC, patient G‐VAS and high HAQ‐DI. Predictors for suboptimal mental health were low income, physical labor, married status, increased swollen joint count (SJC), physician G‐VAS and high HAQ‐DI. Conclusion: Rheumatoid arthritis has profound effects on physical function and HRQoL in Chinese patients. Patients with identified predictive factors for poor outcome should be closely monitored. A checklist of 63 species of tardigrades from the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau is given in this paper. Twenty species of tardigades that had never been found in the Yunnan-Guizou Plateau were reported; four of them are new records for China, and two of them are new to science. Pseudechiniscus yunnanensis sp. n. is similar to Pseudechiniscus pilatoi Li, 2007. It differs from P. pilatoi by a different pseudosegmental plate with two triangle-shaped lobes, the first and second paired-plates with a small lobe on the posterior edge. Mixibius pilatoi sp. n. differs from M. saracenus Pilato, 1973 and M. fueginus Pilato and Binda, 1997 by the presence of lunulae; it differs from M. ninguidus Biserov, 1999, M. ornatus Pilato, Binda, Napolitano, and Moncada, 2002, M. sutirae Pilato, Binda, and Lisi, 2004 and M. tibetanus Li and Li, 2008 by having a smooth cuticle. Indoor biomass burning is a major contributor to the emission of PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) in China. To date, estimates of PAH emissions from the burning of biomass have involved considerable uncertainty, mostly from the lack of real-world measurements of emission factors. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive evaluation on PAH emissions from biomass burning in real-world cooking stoves in three Chinese provinces. PAH emission factors, in both particle- and gas-phase, from 11 fuel-stove combinations were measured and the provincial emissions were estimated based on the measured emission factors and fuel consumption. The measured PAH 28 emission factors (including 16 US EPA priority PAHs and 12 non-priority PAHs) ranged from 42 mg/kg to 370 mg/kg, with an order of magnitude difference, which was mostly affected by fuel type. The emission factors measured in this study were generally higher than those reported in laboratory studies and were comparable with field studies. The gas-particle distribution indicated that the absorption of PAHs by organic carbon in particulate matter (PM) was the dominant sorption mechanism in gas-particle distribution. The composition profile was different from previous studies, especially for non-priority PAHs, which are highly toxic and should be given more attention. Following the disparities in composition profiles, our study suggests that source apportionment based on single- or multi-diagnostic ratios may lead to large bias and uncertainties. It appears that the toxicity potential of PAHs in northern China emitted from combustion of crop residues is greater than that in southern China where PAHs are mainly emitted from wood combustion. Erratic and intensively erosive natural rainfall is becoming more frequent with the intensification of global climate warming, increasing uncertainty and unpredictable risks of the stability of contour ridge system. However, little attention has been paid to the in situ quantitative evaluation of contour ridge stability under natural rainfall. When water ponds in furrows, contour ridges tend to breach, inducing contour failure followed by ephemeral gully erosion, which greatly affects the stability of contour ridge system. To track sediment sources during ridge slope erosion, contour failure, and ephemeral gully erosion stages, ten rare earth element (REE) tracers were applied in three soil layers (total 0.3 m in depth) at four slope positions in-situ runoff plots under five rainfall levels. Runoff plots were conducted with contour ridgess for sweet potatoes (SP) and peanuts (PT). The stability of contour ridges was gradually weakened when erosion form shifted from ridge slope erosion to contour failure and then to ephemeral gully erosion. Ridge slope erosion controlled contour ridge stability, with contribution of 76.28–80.49 % to the total sediment yield. Sediment yield occupied 40.99 % of the total after contour failure appearing and 55.80 % after ephemeral gully formation. The lower-middle slope was the most fragile area for contour ridge system. Rainstorm (with precipitation 50–100 mm in 24 h) played a destructive role in weakening contour ridge stability, which generated the largest runoff (36.81–39.25 % to the total) and sediment yield (46.75–57.84 % to the total). Rainstorm made the greatest contribution to the occurrence of ridge slope erosion (51.64–59.99 %), contour failure (38.07–40.91 %), and ephemeral gully erosion (24.32–30.53 %). When using REE oxides to determine contour ridge stability, the tagging depth above 0.2 m and the uniform binding of oxides with < 0.05 mm particles should be considered. Thus, some modifications to lower the likelihood of ridge failures under rainstorm conditions may be effective to enhance the stability of contour ridge system. • The stability of contour ridges was seriously damaged after contour failure occurring. • Ridge slope erosion controlled the stability of contour ridge system. • Contour ridges were the least stable under rainstorm rainfall events. • The tagging depth of REE oxides should be above 0.2 m to track contour ridge stability. Abstract: Dendrobium officinale Kimura et Migo (Orchidaceae) is a traditional Chinese medicinal plant. The stem contains an alkaloid that is the primary bioactive component. However, the details of alkaloid biosynthesis have not been effectively explored because of the limited number of expressed sequence tags (ESTs) available in GenBank. In this study, we analyzed RNA isolated from the stem of D. officinale using a single half-run on the Roche 454 GS FLX Titanium platform to generate 553,084 ESTs with an average length of 417 bases. The ESTs were assembled into 36,407 unique putative transcripts. A total of 69.97% of the unique sequences were annotated, and a detailed view of alkaloid biosynthesis was obtained. Functional assignment based on Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) terms revealed 69 unique sequences representing 25 genes involved in alkaloid backbone biosynthesis. A series of qRT-PCR experiments confirmed that the expression levels of 5 key enzyme-encoding genes involved in alkaloid biosynthesis are greater in the leaves of D. officinale than in the stems. Cytochrome P450s, aminotransferases, methyltransferases, multidrug resistance protein (MDR) transporters and transcription factors were screened for possible involvement in alkaloid biosynthesis. Furthermore, a total of 1061 simple sequence repeat motifs (SSR) were detected from 36,407 unigenes. Dinucleotide repeats were the most abundant repeat type. Of these, 179 genes were associated with a metabolic pathway in KEGG. This study is the first to produce a large volume of transcriptome data from D. officinale. It extends the foundation to facilitate gene discovery in D. officinale and provides an important resource for the molecular genetic and functional genomic studies in this species. The accumulation of nutrients in rivers is a major cause of eutrophication, and the change in nutrient content is affected by a variety of factors. Taking the River Yi as an example, this study used wavelet analysis tools to examine the periodic changes in nutrients and environmental factors, as well as the relationship between nutrients and environmental factors. The results revealed that total phosphorus (TP), total nitrogen (TN), and ammonia nitrogen (NH4+-N) exhibit multiscale oscillation features, with the dominating periods of 16-17, 26, and 57-60 months. The continuous wavelet transform revealed periodic fluctuation laws on multiple scales between nutrients and several environmental factors. Wavelet transform coherence (WTC) was performed on nutrients and environmental factors, and the results showed that temperature and dissolved oxygen (DO) have a strong influence on nutrient concentration fluctuation. The WTC revealed a weak correlation between pH and TP. On a longer period, however, pH was positively correlated with TN. The flow was found to be positively correct with N and P, while N and P were found to be negatively correct with DO and electrical conductance (EC) at different scales. In most cases, TP was negatively correlated with 5-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD 5 ) and permanganate index (COD Mn ). The correlation between TN and COD Mn and BOD 5 was limited, and no clear dominant phase emerged. In a nutshell, wavelet analysis revealed that water temperature, pH, DO, flow, EC, COD Mn , and BOD 5 had a pronounced influence on nutrient concentration in the River Yi at different time scales. In the case of the combination of environmental factors, pH and DO play the largest role in determining nutrient concentration.

To assess potential phosphorus removal, we utilized Potamogeton crispus to determine the effects of calcium addition on phosphorus removal. Plastic film was used to block material exchange between the overlying water and the sediment, and we compared the experimental results with long-term monitoring results of Yimeng Lake, which contained a dense population of P. crispus. The results revealed that the first 10-40 days constituted a period of rapid P decrease, as P. crispus could effectively remove the phosphorus in the water through coprecipitation of CaCO 3 -P. The treatment groups indicated that P. crispus released calcium into the overlying water, and after the addition of calcium ions, P. crispus showed increased phosphorus removal efficiency in the water. Total phosphorus (TP) and P/Ca content increased with increasing pH in the treatment groups, and the TP and pH declined as the calcium content increased in the treatment groups. Long-term field observations showed that the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio in the coprecipitates was dependent on the pH during the crystallization process. Thus, water calcium driven by P. crispus plays an important role in the phosphorus cycle of water, due to P. crispus assisted precipitation. This study revealed the effect of P. crispus on the water purification, the migration and transformation of Ca and P in sediment and overlying water under the condition of sediment calcium addition, so as to provide a theoretical basis for the ecological restoration of shallow lakes eutrophication., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Ltd. Accurate runoff modeling has an important role in water resource management. Attributable to the effects of climate variability and vegetation dynamics, runoff time series is nonstationary, resulting in the difficulty of runoff modeling. Detecting the temporal features of runoff and its potential influencing factors can help to increase the modeling accuracy. Selecting the Yihe watershed in the rocky mountainous area of northern China as a case study, multivariate empirical mode decomposition (MEMD) was adopted to analyze the time scales of the monthly runoff and its influencing factors, i.e., precipitation (P), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), temperature (T), relative humidity (RH), and potential evapotranspiration (PE). Using the MEMD technique, the original monthly runoff and its influencing factors were decomposed into six orthogonal and bandlimited functions, i.e., intrinsic mode functions (IMF1-6) and one residue, respectively. Each IMF is a counterpart of the simple harmonic function and represents a simple but general oscillatory mode in the original time series data. The results of the IMF contribution rate showed that the annual cycle had the most important role in runoff, P, NDVI, T and PE change. The contribution of quarterly oscillation was the largest contribution for the month RH variability. The monotonic residue showed that the predominant trends of runoff, P, NDVI, T, RH, and PE were decreasing from 2006 to 2015. Stepwise multiple linear regression (SMLR) was chosen to simulate the runoff IMFs and residue. The modeling results using the IMFs and residue of the potential influencing factors as input variables (R 2 ranges from 0.53 to 1.0) were better than those using the original time series of influencing factors as input variables (R 2 ranges from 0.17 to 0.6). By summing all the modeled IMFs and residues, the monthly runoff model was obtained, which increased the R 2 value by 24.2% compared with the SMLR model using the original time series of influencing factors as input. The Silk Road, which derives its name from the trade of silk produced by the domestic silkworm Bombyx mori, was an important episode in the development and interaction of human civilizations. However, the detailed history behind silkworm domestication remains ambiguous, and little is known about the underlying genetics with respect to important aspects of its domestication. Here, we reconstruct the domestication processes and identify selective sweeps by sequencing 137 representative silkworm strains. The results present an evolutionary scenario in which silkworms may have been initially domesticated in China as trimoulting lines, then subjected to independent spreads along the Silk Road that gave rise to the development of most local strains, and further improved for modern silk production in Japan and China, having descended from diverse ancestral sources. We find that genes with key roles in nitrogen and amino acid metabolism may have contributed to the promotion of silk production, and that circadian-related genes are generally selected for their adaptation. We additionally identify associations between several candidate genes and important breeding traits, thereby advancing the applicable value of our resources.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of RA on work capacity and identify factors related to work capacity impairment in patients with RA., Methods: A cross-sectional multicentre study was performed in 21 tertiary care hospitals across China. A consecutive sample of 846 patients with RA was recruited, of which 589 patients of working age at disease onset constituted the study population. Information on the socio-demographic, clinical, working and financial conditions of the patients was collected. Logistic regression analyses were used to identify factors associated with work capacity impairment., Results: The rate of work capacity impairment was 48.0% in RA patients with a mean disease duration of 60 months (interquartile range 14-134 months), including 11.7% leaving the labour force early, 33.6% working reduced hours and 2.7% changing job. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that reduced working hours was significantly related to current smoking [odds ratio (OR) 2.07 (95% CI 1.08, 3.97)], no insurance [OR 1.94 (95% CI 1.20, 3.12)], in manual labour [OR 2.66 (95% CI 1.68, 4.20)] and higher HAQ score [OR 2.22 (95% CI 1.36, 3.60)]. There was an association of current smoking [OR 3.75 (95% CI 1.54, 9.15)], in manual labour [OR 2.33 (95% CI 1.17, 4.64)], longer disease duration [OR 1.01 (95% CI 1.00, 1.01)] and lower BMI [OR 0.90 (95% CI 0.82, 0.99)] with leaving the labour force early., Conclusion: There is a substantial impact of RA on the work capacity of patients in China. The Yak (Bos grunniens) is a unique species of ruminant animals that is important to agriculture of the Tibetan plateau, and has a complex intestinal microbial community. The objective of the present study was to characterize the composition and individual variability of microbiota in the rumen of yaks using 16S rRNA gene high-throughput sequencing technique. Rumen samples used in the present study were obtained from grazing adult male yaks (n = 6) in a commercial farm in Ganzi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, China. Universal prokaryote primers were used to target the V4-V5 hypervariable region of 16S rRNA gene. A total of 7200 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were obtained after sequence filtering and chimera removal. Within these OTUs, 0.56% belonged to Archaea (40 OTUs), 7.19% to unassigned species (518 OTUs), and the remaining OTUs (6642) in all samples were of bacterial origin. When examining the community structure of bacteria, we identified 23 phyla within 159 families after taxonomic summarization. Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes were the predominant phyla accounting for 39.68% (SD = 0.05) and 45.90% (SD = 0.06), respectively. Moreover, 3764 OTUs were identified as shared OTUs (i.e. represented in all yaks) and belonged to 35 genera, exhibiting highly variable abundance across individual samples. Phylogenetic placement of these genera across individual samples was examined. In addition, we evaluated the distance among the 6 rumen samples by adding taxon phylogeny using UniFrac, representing 24.1% of average distance. In summary, the current study reveals a shared rumen microbiome and phylogenetic lineage and presents novel information on composition and individual variability of the bacterial community in the rumen of yaks., (Copyright © 2015.
