Malnutrition significantly hampers wound healing processes. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) and Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) in diagnosing malnutrition and predicting wound healing in patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). GLIM criteria were evaluated for sensitivity (SE), specificity (SP), positive predictive value, negative predictive value and kappa (κ) against SGA as the reference. Modified Poisson regression model and the DeLong test investigated the association between malnutrition and non-healing ulcers over 6 months. This retrospective cohort study included 398 patients with DFU, with a mean age of 66·3 ± 11·9 years. According to SGA and GLIM criteria, malnutrition rates were 50·8 % and 42·7 %, respectively. GLIM criteria showed a SE of 67·3 % (95 % CI 60·4 %, 73·7 %) and SP of 82·7 % (95 % CI 76·6 %, 87·7 %) in identifying malnutrition, with a positive predictive value of 80·0 % and a negative predictive value of 71·1 % (κ = 0·50) compared with SGA. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that malnutrition, as assessed by SGA, was an independent risk factor for non-healing (relative risk (RR) 1·84, 95 % CI 1·45, 2·34), whereas GLIM criteria were associated with poorer ulcer healing in patients with estimated glomerular filtration rate ≥ 60 ml/min/1·73m2 (RR: 1·46, 95 % CI 1·10, 1·94). SGA demonstrated a superior area under the receiver's operating characteristic curve for predicting non-healing compared with GLIM criteria (0·70 (0·65–0·75) v. 0·63 (0·58–0·65), P < 0·01). These findings suggest that both nutritional assessment tools effectively identify patients with DFU at increased risk, with SGA showing superior performance in predicting non-healing ulcers. In December 2019, pneumonia of unknown cause occurred in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. On 7 January 2020, a novel coronavirus, named as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), was identified in the throat swab sample of one patient. The World Health Organization (WHO) announced the epidemic disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Currently, COVID-19 has spread widely around the world, affecting more than seventy countries. China, with a huge burden of this disease, has taken strong measures to control the spread and improve the curative rate of COVID-19. In this review, we summarized the epidemiological characteristics, clinical features, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of COVID-19. A comprehensive understanding will help to control the disease. Operational indices optimization is crucial for the global optimization in beneficiation processes. This paper presents a multitasking multiobjective evolutionary method to solve operational indices optimization, which involves a formulated multiobjective multifactorial operational indices optimization (MO-MFO) problem and the proposed multiobjective MFO algorithm for solving the established MO-MFO problem. The MO-MFO problem includes multiple level of accurate models of operational indices optimization, which are generated on the basis of a data set collected from production. Among the formulated models, the most accurate one is considered to be the original functions of the solved problem, while the remained models are the helper tasks to accelerate the optimization of the most accurate model. For the MFO algorithm, the assistant models are alternatively in multitasking environment with the accurate model to transfer their knowledge to the accurate model during optimization in order to enhance the convergence of the accurate model. Meanwhile, the recently proposed two-stage assortative mating strategy for a multiobjective MFO algorithm is applied to transfer knowledge among multitasking tasks. The proposed multitasking framework for operational indices optimization has conducted on 10 different production conditions of beneficiation. Simulation results demonstrate its effectiveness in addressing the operational indices optimization of beneficiation problem. Note to Practitioners—Operational indices optimization is a typical approach to achieve global production optimization by efficiently coordinating all the indices to improve the production indices. In this paper, a multiobjective multitasking framework is developed to address the operational indices optimization, which includes a multitasking multiobjective operational indices optimization problem formulation and a multitasking multiobjective evolutionary optimization to solve the above-formulated optimization problem. The proposed approach can achieve a solution set for the decision-making. The simulation results on a real beneficiation process in China with 10 operational conditions show that the proposed approach is able to obtain a superior solution set, which is associated with a higher grade and yield of the product. Converting natural forests to managed ecosystems generally increases soil nitrous oxide (N 2 O) emission. However, the pattern and underlying mechanisms of N 2 O emissions after converting tropical forests to managed plantations remain elusive. Hence, a laboratory incubation study was investigated to determine soil N 2 O emissions of four land uses including forest, eucalyptus, rubber, and paddy field plantations in a tropical region of China. The effect of soil carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) fractions on soil N 2 O emissions and related functional genes was also estimated. We found that the conversion of natural forests to managed forests significantly decreased soil N 2 O emissions, but the conversion to paddy field had no effect. Soil N 2 O emissions were controlled by both nitrifying and denitrifying genes in tropical natural forest, but only by nitrifying genes in managed forests and by denitrifying genes in paddy field. Soil total N, extractable nitrate, particulate organic C (POC), and hydrolyzable ammonium N showed positive relationship with soil N 2 O emission. The easily oxidizable organic C (EOC), POC, and light fraction organic C (LFOC) had positive linear correlation with the abundance of AOA– amoA , AOB– amoA , nirK , and nirS genes. The ratios of dissolved organic C, EOC, POC, and LFOC to total N rather than soil C/N ratio control soil N 2 O emissions with a quadratic function relationship, and the local maximum values were 0.16, 0.22, 1.5, and 0.55, respectively. Our results provided a new evidence of the role of soil C and N fractions and their ratios in controlling soil N 2 O emissions and nitrifying and denitrifying genes in tropical soils. This article examines the development and status of state-managed publishing in China by introducing and analyzing the history and development of the three most important national level directorates, i.e., the National Leading Group for the Planning of Collating and Publishing of Ancient Texts, the National Leading Group for Compiling Qing History, and the National Leading Group for Local Gazetteers. The article explores the history, publishing policies and operations of the three directorates, and the reasons why the state commits significant political, human and financial resources to publishing. It is argued that collaboration and unity between scholars and state, instead of independent scholarship and constructive dialogue, are ultimately pursued in the unprecedented large-scale publishing projects. In this study, the concentrations of nine typical antibiotics, including sulfadiazine (SD), sulfamerazine (SMR), sulfamethazine (SM2), sulfamethoxazole (SMZ), ofloxacin (OFX), ciprofloxacin (CIP), trimethoprim (TMP), oxytetracycline (OTC), and tetracycline hydrochloride (TC), were detected in the Yitong River by solid-phase extraction high-performance liquid chromatography. The concentrations of the antibiotics were analyzed. Additionally, an improved immobilized substrate enzyme substrate method (DST-enzyme substrate method) was developed and used to evaluate the antibiotic resistance of coliform bacteria to OFX, CIP, enrofloxacin (ENR), TC, sulfisoxazole (SOX), and TMP in the Yitong River. The results showed that the concentrations of the nine antibiotics ranged from nd (not detected) to 1.361 μg/L. The detection rate and concentration of OFX were the highest, followed by CIP, and the detection rate and concentration of SM2 and OTC were the lowest. The detection rate and concentrations of antibiotics were higher in August and November than those in May. The antibiotics were mainly distributed in the livestock sewage discharge and suburban domestic sewage discharge areas. Moreover, the drug resistance of total coliform bacteria to fluoroquinolones, sulfonamides, tetracyclines, and TMP varied with season. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: This study provides a new understanding to sources of nitrogen (N), and may serve as a foundation for further exploration of anthropogenic effects on N inputs. Estimation of net anthropogenic nitrogen inputs (NANI) was based on an inventory of atmospheric N deposition, N fertilizer use, N in human food and animal feed, seeding N and N fixation. This study took a step forward to calculate NANI in detail on a regional scale, and analyzed its temporal variations and geographic differences. Over the past 28years, NANI increased significantly in Mainland China, from 2360kgNkm−2 yr−1 to 5013kgNkm−2 yr−1. On a geographical basis, NANI was higher in southeast where China's eight major watersheds are located than in northwest, and the largest NANI, 26160kgNkm−2 yr−1, appeared in Shanghai. The administrative regions corresponding to Haihe watershed, Huaihe watershed and Tai lake watershed have the largest NANI. N input of fertilizer is the largest source of NANI, followed by atmospheric N deposition and N fixation. The primary factor in relation to the change in NANI is total population density, followed by cultivated land area and total grain yield. In those densely populated large cities and watersheds, reasonably allocating the social resources to reduce the existing population density is the most effective way to address the problem of high N inputs, while in those agriculture-dominated regions and watersheds, the most effective way for reducing NANI is to improve fertilizer utilization efficiency in agriculture. Abstract: This study provides a new understanding on sources of P, which may serve as a foundation for further exploration of anthropogenic effects on P input. Estimation of net anthropogenic phosphorus input (NAPI) was based on an inventory of phosphorus (P) fertilizer use, consumption of human food and animal feed, seeding phosphorus and non-food phosphorus net flux. Across Mainland China, NAPI had an upward trend from 1981 to 2009, which reflects development trend of the population and economic. NAPI for years 1981, 1990, 2000 and 2009 are 190kgPkm−2 yr−1 (1.8kg P per person yr−1), 295kgPkm−2 yr−1 (2.5kgP per person yr−1), 415kgPkm−2 yr−1 (3.1kg P per person yr−1) and 465kgPkm−2 yr−1 (3.4kgP per person yr−1), respectively. On a geographical basis, NAPI per unit area is lower in northwest Mainland China than in southeast Mainland China with the largest NAPI of 3101kgPkm−2 yr−1 in Shanghai, while NAPI per person is in reverse with the largest NAPI 7.7kg P per person yr−1 in Tibet. P input of fertilizer is the largest source of NAPI, accounting for 57.35–83.73% (109–390kgPkm−2 yr−1) of the total NAPI, followed by non-food P and P in human food and animal feed. Year 2000 was a critical point where P changed almost from net input to output. Grain production rate per unit mass of fertilizer showed an obvious downward trend. Background: Research has shown that gonadal hormones are involved in metabolic pathways relevant to metabolic syndrome (MetS). Nevertheless, no longitudinal study has been conducted on the association between SHBG and MetS in Chinese. The objective of our study was to determine whether there is any association between middle-aged and elderly males in China., Methods: A total of 531 eligible male subjects, aged above 40 years or older, without MetS at baseline, were recruited. Sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), total testosterone (TT), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH) were measured. A harmonized definition and recommended thresholds for the Chinese population were used to determine metabolic syndrome., Results: During 3.2 years of follow-up, 20.7% of subjects had developed MetS. Compared with the non-MetS group, subjects in the new-onset MetS group had significantly lower SHBG (43.5 nmol/L [28.8, 74.9] vs 53.7nmol/L [33.8, 115.0], P=0.0018), TT (18.1nmol/L [13.6-21.7] vs 19.5nmol/L[15.0-23.6], P=0.0204), and LH (5.13mIU/L [3.63-7.29] vs 5.87mIU/L [4.05-8.36]) at baseline. The incidence of MetS was decreased according to elevated SHBG quartiles (Q1:26.9%, Q2:22.7%, Q3:21.1%, Q4:12.1%, P for trend =0.0035), TT (Q1: 25.2%, Q2:23.7%, Q3: 17.3%, Q4: 16.7%, P for trend=0.0425), and LH (Q1:25.0%, Q2:21.8%, Q3: 21.8%, Q4: 14.3%, P for trend=0.0411). Compared with those in quartile 4, the OR[CI] of incident MetS for participants in Quartile 1 was 2.33[1.13-4.79] after multiple adjustments. But associations between incident MetS and different quartiles of LH, TT, and FSH were not observed after multiple adjustments. Objective: This study employed time series data to assess long-term changes in the burden of lung cancer (LC) caused by residential radon exposure, an important environmental risk factor, so as to develop evidence-based strategies for future public health management., Methods: Based on the open data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD 2019) database, we conducted an analysis of the residential radon exposure-caused LC mortality, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and corresponding crude rates and age-standardized rates (ASRs) for various age groups. We employed the employed age-period-cohort (APC) model to investigate the age, period, and cohort effects of the data, allowing us to discern the trends in LC disease burden attributable to radon exposure in residential settings over time., Results: From 1990 to 2019, age-standardized mortality rates (ASMR) and age-standardized DALYs rates of LC caused by residential radon exposure in China demonstrated an overall increasing trend, with males higher than females. The CMR and crude DALYs rate for males were higher than those for females across all age groups. The APC analysis revealed that the local drift of LC death and DALYs rates in males and females showed a decreasing trend before 60 and an increasing trend after 60., Conclusion: The persistent presence of residential radon exposure as a crucial risk factor for LC underscores the need for public health authorities and policymakers to take more proactive measures to reduce radon exposure. Aim: Late-onset hypogonadism in men is related to the development of diabetes. The association of gonadal hormones, sex hormone binding globulin with diabetes has been studied in various studies. However, there is no cohort study on the relationship between gonadal hormone, sex hormone binding globulin and diabetes in Chinese. We aimed to provide an insight into the possible association in middle-aged and elderly Chinese males., Methods: We included a population sample of 673 subjects aged 40 years or older. Total testosterone (TT), sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH) were detected. The homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was calculated to estimate insulin sensitivity. Diabetes was diagnosed according to the 2010 American Diabetes Association criteria., Results: With an average follow-up time of 3.2 ± 0.5 years, 9.8% of participants had developed diabetes. The prevalence of diabetes was decreased according to increasing SHBG quartiles (Q1:13.1%, Q2: 12.0%, Q3: 11.2%, Q4: 3.0%, P for trend < .0001) and TT (Q1:16.0%, Q2: 7.9%, Q3: 9.0%, Q4: 6.4%, P for trend < .0001). The ORs of diabetes for increasing SHBG quartiles were 4.52 (95% CI 1.40-14.57), 4.32 (95% CI 1.33-14.06), 3.89 (95% CI 1.21-12.50) and 1.00 (reference) respectively. But the odds of prevalent diabetes were not increased in different quartiles of TT, FSH and LH. In subgroup analyses, the relationship between SHBG and risk of incident diabetes was significantly increased in the population aged over 60, without insulin resistance and with eGFR < 90 mL/min per 1.73 m 2 ., Conclusions: Compared with gonadal hormones, a lower level of SHBG is independently associated with the risk of diabetes in middle-aged and elderly Chinese males., (© 2021 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)

Objectives: Hypogonadism in men is related to the deterioration of general health. However, the association between lipid overaccumulation and ageing-related hypogonadism remains an undetermined concept. We aimed to provide an insight into the possible links between the lipid accumulation product (LAP) and late-onset hypogonadism (LOH)., Setting: Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University., Participants: We included a population sample of 997 subjects aged 40 years or older., Primary and Secondary Outcome Measures: The LAP was calculated by gender-specific equations using waist circumference (WC) and triglyceride (TG). LOH was defined by the presence of androgen deficiency symptoms and low serum total testosterone levels., Results: The prevalence of LOH was 9.4% in this population and gradually increased according to increasing LAP quartiles. Compared with subjects without LOH, ageing men with LOH had higher body mass index, WC, systolic blood pressure, percentage of subjects currently smoking, TG and follicle stimulating hormone and lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and sex hormone binding globulin. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, the adjusted ORs of LOH for increasing LAP quartiles 1-4 were 1.00 (reference), 1.10 (95% CI 0.45-2.69), 2.15 (95% CI 0.93-4.94) and 3.83 (95% CI 1.73-8.45), respectively., Conclusion: Body lipid accumulation evaluated by the LAP is independently associated with the prevalence of LOH in middle-aged and elderly Chinese men., Competing Interests: Competing interests: None declared., (© Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2020.
