Hydrogen is a promising alternative energy source for sustainable development worldwide. Despite being the world's largest hydrogen producer, China's hydrogen energy development is uneven across regions and sectors. The lack of a comprehensive and systematic analysis makes it difficult for policymakers to identify critical areas and links for targeted action. This study aims to establish a comprehensive multi-indicator framework based on a supply-demand-policy model to rank the city's hydrogen development potential. Findings are as follows. First, demand, supply, and policy environment shape the hydrogen market. Second, the development potential of hydrogen varies considerably across regions, and regional development is dependent largely on leading cities. Third, four hydrogen development patterns have been identified: advantage-demonstration, policy-guided, market-driven, and potential-enhancing. This research provides theoretical support and practical guidance for building a hydrogen-based society and may also be applied to similar energy sources. Chinese health system remains the crucial one for understanding the wider healthcare landscape across the Global South and in particular the leading Emerging Markets. Purpose of our observation was to understand the inner dynamics of mainland Chinese health reforms adopting a lengthy time horizon. We have analysed the public reports and seminal evidence on Chinese of multiple waves of national health reforms taking place since 1980s in terms of medical care and pharmaceuticals provision and financing. Chinese international trade with ASEAN nations and wider South-East Asia is accelerating its growth after the recovery of trade routes. In terms of health sector this means that global demand and supply of medical goods, services and pharmaceuticals remains largely driven by Chinese domestic developments. Furthermore, Chinese domestic manufacturing and sales of decent quality medical devices and services have grown exponentially. Some temporary pitfalls and increasing in rural–urban inequalities in equity of access and affordability of medical care and pharmaceuticals did take place. Despite these difficulties to generate a balanced development strategy for the largest global market, this is a clear path upwards. Further upcoming improvements expanding health insurance coverage are in strong demand for certain layers of the society. Domestic bottleneck weaknesses yet remain manufacturing, import and market penetration of cutting-edge pharmaceuticals such as monoclonal antibodies and targeted oncology agents. Forestry infrastructure plays a critical role in promoting tree growth to achieve carbon-neutral targets. However, as a quasi-public good, it faces challenges because of its non-excludability, meaning that everyone can use it whether they pay for it or not, which results in a phenomenon known as 'free-riding' and poor supply. In China, the government can regulate the supply behaviour by adjusting information feedback approaches, such as disclosing the supply value and revenue. This study examined three information feedback approaches: full feedback (disclosing supply and revenue), half feedback (disclosing only supply), and no feedback (no disclosure). It then combined these three information feedback methods with other three groups of variables, namely whether there was a reward or punishment mechanism, whether the return rate of forestry infrastructure was certain, and whether the foresters could communicate with each other, and 20 policy scenarios were designed. Using experimental economics, foresters' supply behaviours in these policy scenarios were simulated. The results revealed that: (1) The scenario yielded the highest supply, which is with half feedback, certain return rate of forestry infrastructure, with a reward or punishment mechanism, and no communication. (2) When there is no reward or punishment mechanism, no communication, and the return rate of forestry infrastructure is certain, no feedback increases the supply. In the presence of rewards and punishments, half feedback leads to the highest supply. If there are no rewards or punishments but with a certain return rate and communication, full feedback results in the highest supply. (3) Implementing a reward or punishment mechanism and information feedback simultaneously increases the supply more effectively. Context: As water demands continue to increase, the contradiction between water supply and demand is becoming increasingly severe, as is the case in Inner Mongolia's arid and semiarid areas. However, the relationship between water supply and demand in watersheds must be better understood. Therefore, it is crucial to clarify the relationship between the supply and demand of freshwater resources for the sustainable utilization of regional water resources. Objectives: Taking the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region as the study area, this study analyzed the temporal and spatial relationships between water supply and demand in 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015 and 2018. Methods: The InVEST model and water resources bulletin were used to assess water resource supply and demand. The differences between the years were assessed using analysis of variance and the correlations applying Pearson correlation. Results: We observed a mismatch between the supply and demand of water resources. Water resources are in short supply in 44% of the watersheds, especially in the central and western regions. The difference in the spatial and temporal distribution of precipitation and increased human water demand were the main reasons for the contradiction between regional water supply and demand. Conclusions: This study provides corresponding water resource management measures for different watersheds. Proposed water resource management measures include water-saving irrigation practices, constructing water conservancy projects in the eastern region, ecological protection, and moderately developing water-saving agriculture in the western region. A comprehensive understanding of the multiple factors affecting ecosystem services (ESs) supply and demand balance is essential for effective ecosystem management and policy making. However, the importance of individual factors for ES balance is still unclear. Using Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs (InVEST) models and Structural Equation Modeling, I mapped the supply–demand balance of four types of ESs (carbon sequestration, water yield, soil conservation, and recreation) in Taihu Lake Basin, China, and quantified the causal relationships between multiple factors and ES balance. The results revealed spatial heterogeneity and imbalance in ES supply and demand in the basin, with the greatest imbalances in built-up city center areas. ES balance was influenced by multiple factors, but particularly normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), elevation, precipitation, and human disturbance. For appropriate watershed management in the future, it is recommended that numbers of small-scale community parks in city centers be increased and that green space be expanded in the suburbs, implementing multi-objective ES management systems and step-by-step implementation plans, and optimizing the configuration of natural ecosystems by creating buffer strips for built-up areas. By carefully managing ES supply–demand balance and associated influencing factors, ecosystem status and human well-being in Taihu Lake Basin, and in other similar basins, can be substantially improved. Aim: Nurses are considered a major source of professional support for patients. However, little is known about what cancer patients need from nurses regarding professional support and the provision of services in China. The purpose of this study is to investigate professional nursing supportive care needs, perceived supply, and the possible gaps between the two for patients with cancer in mainland China. Methods: A total of 390 inpatients with different types of cancer were recruited. The professional nursing supportive care scale was used to assess the needs for and perceived supply of various types of support. Results: The information aspect was one of the most critical needs for supportive care, and the technical aspect was the one with the highest perceived level of supply. Significant mismatches between actual needs and perceived supply were identified. Conclusions: Significant gaps existed between actual needs and perceived supply. Nurses should pay more attention to the higher actual needs and lower perceived levels of supply regarding supportive care for cancer patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

During the seventeenth century crisis, China witnessed the decline and fall of the Ming dynasty. Scholars have long discussed the role of silver in the Ming crisis, but less attention has been paid to the effects of the production and circulation of silk. This paper examines both internal and external factors that contributed to the decline of Chinese sericulture and silk production, as well as consequent damages to the economy and social relations. Converging environmental and economic factors within major silk-producing regions, as well as a number of incidents that affected the Pacific trade of silk, exacerbated the problems of the late Ming. This paper applies the Law of Supplies and Demands to analyse interconnections between China, Manila, and New Spain. An understanding of the silk industry is essential to explain significant economic connections both within Ming China and between China and the outside world during the seventeenth century. In the context of depletion of fossil energy and environmental impacts of its use, society has begun to develop vigorously renewable energy (RE). As a result, concerns about the availability of critical minerals used in RE systems have been raised. This paper uses a generalized Weng model to analyze the long-term production of critical minerals for China's RE development. In our pessimistic case, the results show that the production of most of the minerals investigated for China will peak before 2030, with a relatively high decline rate thereafter. This is an unsustainable situation for China's RE development unless large and growing quantities of these minerals can be imported. In our optimistic case, although this delays the peak date only slightly, it significantly increases the maximum production rate and lowers the subsequent decline rate. The impacts of many other factors on production, and the implications of China's domestic minerals production on world's minerals supply chain, are also analyzed. We conclude that both China and the world should pay close attention to the potential supply risks to critical minerals. Possible measures in response are suggested for both China and the world. Background: In China, some medicines had a supply problem. In 2015, to address this problem, the Chinese government issued a policy to raise the price cap for some shorted low-cost medicines (LCMs). The objective was to assess the effects on medicine prices and supply of medicines from a medicine pricing policy reform point of view.Methods: This study was conducted in Shandong, an eastern province of China with a population of 99.4 million. We collected procurement data of all (n = 1494) LCM medicines available between April 2014 and February 2017 from the web-based Provincial Drug Centralized Bidding Procurement System. This study used the Drug Price index and the average price to reveal the price change of LCMs and used the interrupted time series to evaluate the effects of LCM policy on medicine supply by measuring the change of monthly procurement volume, the number of products, and the average delivery time of LCMs.Results: After the policy implementation in October 2015, the quarterly average price of all LCM products, especially traditional Chinese medicines, showed a sudden growth trend. Then after two-quarter implementation of policy, the price recovered to the same trend before policy intervention, which is consistent with the trend of the Drug price index. There were 466 of LCM products available in October 2015. After the policy intervention, the number of products available increased by 109.87% (n = 978) in February 2017, at a growth rate of 6.44% per month (Value = 30.02, P < 0.001). Besides after the intervention in October 2015, the monthly procurement volumes of LCMs increased rapidly, on average, at a rate of 28.93% per month (Value = 474,000, P < 0.001) for all LCMs. The average delivery time of LCMs kept on decreasing from 33.37 days to 10.69 days at a reduced rate of 3.63% (Value = - 1.21, P < 0.001) per month before the policy, while no significant changes were noted. Also, average monthly delivery time was stable at 9 days after the intervention.Conclusions: The policy promoted the supply of low-cost medicines, which is beneficial for the Universal Health Coverage. Decoupling global economic growth from carbon emissions is essential for mitigating global climate change while maintaining continuous economic growth. Traditional production-side decoupling analysis alone is insufficient to capture the decoupling status between carbon emissions and the value added throughout global supply chains. This study investigates the decoupling status between value added and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions during 1995-2019 from consumption and income perspectives. We find that the decoupling statuses of 17 regions (especially Russia, Australia, and Malta) show significant differences across multiple perspectives. For example, Malta's direct GHG emissions decreased with its GDP growth from a production perspective (i.e., achieved strong decoupling). However, its consumption-based GHG emissions increased with the growth of consumption-based value added (i.e., expansive negative decoupling). Moreover, most international pairs have not yet achieved strong decoupling from consumption and income perspectives. International multilateral cooperation is crucial for decoupling global GHG emissions from economic growth across global supply chains. This study provides insights into the decoupling between embodied GHG emissions and value added from consumption and income perspectives. The findings of this study can complement existing policies on global GHG emission mitigation and sustainable development.

With the rapid development and wide popularity of the Internet, Chinese people have acquired a revolutionary channel to mobilize collective action and to participate in politics. In order to depict the various factors influencing online collective action in China, and to further explore the dynamic interaction between the Chinese authorities and the public in this new era of collective action, the article attempts to integrate the demand-supply model with relevant studies from both China and abroad to make a systematic analysis of the demand, supply and mobilization of Chinese online activism. In order to better understand whether China's agriculture can feed its population, and how much Chinese demand for food depends on the world, the changes in capacity of China's agriculture to feed the nation were explored. Moreover, the main food sources of energy and nutrients for the Chinese and the contribution of imported agricultural products were studied. The results show that for energy, self-sufficiency in cereals was achieved in 1970. Energy, protein, fat and superior protein provided by self-produced agricultural products could also meet the nation's demand since 1983, 1994, 1998 and 2002 respectively. Due to opening up, the supply of energy and nutrients increased and met the nation's demand ahead of time. Cereals have been the main source of energy and nutrients for the Chinese, but their importance has decreased. Energy and nutrients from vegetable products are substantial; however, the share of energy and nutrients from animal products has increased. The contribution rate of energy from imported products was low, but that of fat and superior protein increased rapidly and has been over the warning level of food security since 2000. Cereals, meats, eggs and vegetables, with a strong self-support capacity, are the most important food sources for the Chinese. It indicates that China has been depending on domestic production to meet its demand up to now. However, with growth in the population, optimization of nutritional structure and imbalance of the agriculture structure, the nation will have a great demand for the world's agricultural products. Shale gas, with its lower carbon content and pollution potential, is the most promising natural gas resource in China. When modeling the shale gas supply in a specific gas field, it is of paramount importance to determine the gas supply under economic considerations. Two common calculation methods are used in China for this purpose: Method 1 (M1) is the breakeven analysis, where the gas supply is based on the relationship between costs and revenues, while Method 2 (M2) is the Geologic Resource Supply-Demand Model, where the supply relies on demand and price scenarios. No comparisons has been made between these two methods. In this study, the Fuling shale gas field in the Sichuan Basin was chosen as a study case to forecast the shale gas supply using these two different methods. A sensitivity analysis was performed to discuss the influencing factors of each method and error measures were used to compare the different shale gas supply values calculated by each method. The results shows that M1 is more sensitive to initial production, while M2 is more sensitive to gas price. In addition, M2 is more feasible for its simplicity and accuracy at high price scenarios and M1 is considered to be reliable for low price scenarios with profit. Abalone (Haliotis spp.) is a highly demanded product due to its quality. Although abalone production volume is not as high relative to other seafood products, it is highly valued; it amounted to nearly 2.6 billion dollars in 2017. Previously, global abalone production depended primarily on fisheries, but now days it relies mostly on aquaculture; today, over 95% of abalone production comes from aquaculture. Several factors govern the price of abalone in the international market, including production and export volumes, among others. Therefore, it is of interest to elucidate the factors that drive abalone supply and demand. We used exports and imports data of the major abalone producers to investigate the market behavior using non-parametric statistical analyses and historical and current abalone production data worldwide. Our findings confirm the existence of significant correlations between the various mechanisms governing the abalone demand, supply, and price. It was found that the supply behavior (catch-price) of Mexican and Australian abalone was adjusted to the bioeconomic model of the backward-bending supply curve for fisheries, due to overexploitation or the establishment of catch quotas. • The catch of abalone has an inversely proportional effect on price, conforming to the backward-bending supply model. • In general, exports (demand) of abalone have an inversely proportional effect on price, showing the classical demand curve. • Farmed abalone production has a directly proportional effect in the international price. • For China, the coefficient of price elasticity of demand for abalone is greater than one, showing that it is a luxury item. This article analyses the provision of community care for urban disabled elderly women. With the emergence of an aging society in China and the empty nest syndrome in Chinese families, the number of elderly people who cannot take care of themselves is increasing. With the reduction in family size and the weakening of the home care function, traditional family care in China is facing immense challenges. On the one hand, a growing number of disabled elderly women are in urgent need of care; they encounter many difficulties in daily life, including poor health status, the loss of their spouse and living alone, an inability to support themselves economically, the lack of a spiritual life, and a significant reliance on their children to take care of them. On the other hand, the family's function of providing for the elderly has been weakened, and the traditional way of care is affected by the changes in modern society. Based on a qualitative study in Beijing, this article examines the demand for care from disabled elderly women and the current supply of community care. It puts forward a community-centred and targeted assistance model and social work intervention. This study argues that the community care system for disabled elderly women in urban areas should focus on four aspects, namely living care, medical care, spiritual consolation, and emergency assistance; and the protection mechanism should be improved to support disabled elderly women from three aspects: a protection system, a fund guarantee and services from health and social cafe staff and social workers. • Analyses the provision of community care for disabled elderly women in urban China. • Discusses the demand and supply of social care for disabled elderly women. • Argues that the community care system should focus on four aspects. • Proposes a community-centred and targeted assistance model. • Provides an interesting comparison to other social care service systems of the world. Background: Despite years of public cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training efforts, the training rate and survival following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) have increased modestly in China. Access is imperative to increase the public CPR training rate, which is determined by both demand- (e.g., the lay public) and supply-side (e.g., CPR trainers) factors. We aimed to explore the demand and supply determinants of access to CPR training for the lay public in China., Methods: Qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted with 77 laypeople (demand side) and eight key stakeholders from CPR training institutions (supply side) in Shanghai, China. The interview guide was informed by Levesque et al. healthcare access framework. Data were transcribed, quantified, described, and analyzed through thematic content analysis., Results: On the demand side, the laypeople's ability to perceive their need and willingness for CPR training was strong. However, they failed to access CPR training mainly due to the lack of information on where to get trained. Overestimation of skills, optimism bias, and misconceptions impeded laypeople from attending training. On the supply side, trainers were able to meet the needs of the trainees with existing resources, but they relied on participants who actively sought out and registered for training and lacked an understanding of the needs of the public for marketing and encouraging participation in the training., Conclusion: Insufficient information and lack of initiative on the demand side, lack of motivation, and understanding of public needs on the supply side all contributed to the persistently low CPR training rate in China. Global exploitation of sharks and sea cucumbers to meet consumer demand in China is motivating a rising conservation concern. In order to analyze trends in resource exploitation and market dynamics, this paper reviews global production and trade data for these taxa. Sea cucumber capture production has plateaued, but overall production is still increasing because of rising aquaculture, limited public conservation concern and insufficient regulation of fishing and trade. Shark capture production has peaked and is declining, suggesting that one or more of these factors are constraining the shark fin trade. The trade networks for both commodities have been resilient to changing conditions (e.g. stock declines, closed fisheries, regulations, public opinion on conservation) and have become more widespread over the last 10 years. System resilience is evident in dynamic market attributes, such as developing new product forms and absorbing alternative target species, and presents substantial challenges for identifying conservation approaches. For shark fin, a government-led backlash against conspicuous consumption in China, combined with global conservation momentum, appears to have had some impact on traded volumes. Sea cucumbers do not enjoy the same level of attention in the global conservation discourse, despite seven species being endangered. For both taxa, the current regulatory environment is insufficient to safeguard resources and strengthened conservation strategies are required. The concentration of rare earth elements (REEs) production in China raises the vital issue of supply susceptibility. Until recently, the global dependency on China for rare earths was a well-kept secret. But word started to spread fast after Beijing cut export quotas by 70 per cent for the second half of 2010, sending prices of some oxides—the purified form of rare earth elements sky-rocketing. This article seeks to evaluate what rare earth elements are and explores China’s role in the global supply-demand equations. It also explores the history of rare earth elements and China’s current monopoly over the industry, including possible repercussions if rare earth elements supply were to be disrupted. This study estimates optimal guestroom capacity for the Hong Kong hotel industry during 2010–2013 using a single-period inventory model. Using Hong Kong hotel operational data for the period 2000–2009, we identify an issue of serious overcapacity of Hong Kong hotels for 2010–2013, the severity of which ranges from 30.6 to 40.7% above the optimal hotel guestroom counts derived from our study. We further estimate an optimal advertising budget as a percentage of total revenue (3.78%) in maximizing profitability. Attention is called for stakeholders to carefully reexamine existing and future hotel development plans and work on pushing up future room demand. The implications of our study are also discussed. Abstract Since 2004, non-public funding foundations have developed rapidly. They have had important effects on resource mobilization, public-interest services and grant incubation. This study affirms non-public funding foundations' role as 'public-interest suppliers'. After an analysis of the entire supplier - that is, non-public funding foundation - industry's development, a typology of non-public funding foundations as public-interest providers is presented and the concept of 'agent foundations' introduced. Then, five foundation supply methods are discussed, including direct supply of funds, direct supply of services, indirect supply of funds, indirect supply of services and supply by foundation agents. The last type, in particular, is characterized by a unique principal-agent relationship. Then, from the angles of transaction costs, field effectiveness and optimal scales, it analyzes issues related to non-public funding foundations' optimal supply decisions, including optimal methods, fields and scales of supply. Lastly, it identifies two major challenges from the demand side that non-public funding foundations face as they vigorously develop - homogeneous competition and insufficient effective demand - and offers policy responses. Abstract: To better understand the gap between limited influenza vaccine supply and the target population for vaccination in China, we conducted a retrospective survey to quantify the production capacity, supply and sale of seasonal trivalent inactive vaccine (TIV) from the 2004–2005 through the 2008–2009 season, and estimated the target population who should receive annual influenza vaccine. The maximum domestic capacity to produce TIV was 126 million doses in 2009. A total of 32.5 million doses of TIV were supplied in 2008–2009, with an average annual increase rate of 18% from 16.9 million in 2004–2005. This represents an amount sufficient to vaccinate 1.9% of Chinese population. The average number of doses of TIV for sale by province ranged from <5 to 108 per 1000 people. The differences are explained in part by level of economic development but also influenced by local reimbursement policies in some provinces. Based on national recommendations, we estimated a target population of 570.6 million or 43% of the total population. Supply and domestic production capacity for influenza vaccine is currently insufficient to vaccinate the estimated target population in China. The Government of China should consider measures to improve domestic production capacity of influenza vaccine, expand successful promotional campaigns, and add cost subsidies in high risk groups to further encourage influenza vaccine usage. Russia is the world's largest exporter of roundwood, mainly to China, Finland and Japan. The Russian government recently announced an increase in its export tax on softwood roundwood from the present 6.5% of export product value to 80% by January 2009. The effects of this policy on the world forest sector to 2020 were simulated with the Global Forest Products Model. The predicted results were lower Russian roundwood exports and prices, lower global wood supply and higher world roundwood prices. In response, the USA, Germany and New Zealand would increase production and export of roundwood. Major consumers of Russian roundwood would suffer a reduction in production and export of wood products. By 2020 Russian harvests and roundwood exports would be 49 million m3 (19%) and 51 million m3 (50%) lower, respectively. The price of roundwood in Russia would be 16% lower. This would encourage a modest increase in Russian forest product production: 1-3% higher. However, Russian export revenues would be US $3.4 billion (23%) lower as growth in processed exports would fail to offset reduced roundwood export revenue. Value added in all manufacturing sectors would be US $225 million higher in Russia, while it would be US $1.3 billion lower in Finland and US $728 million lower in China. A structural model for fruit supply and demand was established based on the economic anticipation theory and a hypothesis of fruit producer input behaviour under risk conditions. The model invokes the partial adjustment hypothesis and uses a deductive method. It can be used for quantitative analysis of the relationship between fruit supply and demand, and the main factors which impact on fruit supply, demand and price, Taking grapes as an example, the model was set up using the classic method of establishing an econometric model. The relationship between grape supply, price and demand in China is analysed and the main factors which impact supply and demand identified and quantified. The results show that supply, price and demand for grapes have significant connections with their status in the previous production cycle. The price of substitute products has a significant influence on grape price but has no obvious influence on supply and demand. However, imports have a significant negative impact on the domestic grape market. Meanwhile, export and processing have no positive influences on the increase of the aggregate demand for grapes. In addition, the increase of grape supply does not necessarily lead to a fall in price. Finally, the characteristics of the grape market and the fruit industry problems are discussed. In most urban areas taxi services are subject to various types of regulation such as entry restriction and price control. However, effective intervention depends on generating and using suitable information on the demand-supply equilibrium of the taxi market. This paper develops a simultaneous equation system of passenger demand, taxi utilization and level of services based on a taxi service situation found in the urban area of Hong Kong over the last ten years. A set of variables is introduced including number of licensed taxis, taxi fare, disposable income, occupied taxi journey time as exogenous variables and daily taxi passenger demand, passenger waiting time, taxi availability, taxi utilization and average taxi waiting time as endogenous variables. These variables are coupled together through a system of nonlinear simultaneous equations whose parameters are estimated from survey data. The simultaneous equation system can be used to obtain useful regulatory information to assist with the decisions concerning the restriction over the number of taxi licenses and the fixing of the taxi fare structure as well as a range of service quality control. Cultural ecosystem services (CESs) are an important part of ecosystem services (ESs). Correctly understanding the supply and demand relationship of CES is the premise of ES sustainable management and helps to improve human well-being. However, the evaluation and mapping of CES supply and demand represents a significant gap in ES research. Using the Shigou Township of Mizhi County in China as an example, in this study, we evaluated CES supply and demand at the village scale. We first considered three aspects of supply potential, accessibility and quality to construct an indicator system of six types of CES supply, including aesthetic (Aest), sense of place (SP), social relations (SR), cultural heritage (Cult), education (Edu) and recreation (Recr) and obtained demand data through a questionnaire. Then, we identified the imbalance in the supply and demand of CES by Z-score standardization based on the quantification of the CES supply and demand. Secondly, bivariate spatial autocorrelation analysis was used to identify tradeoffs/synergies on the CES supply side, and chi-square tests were used to identify CES demand differences between stakeholder groups. The results indicated that the supply-demand patterns of CES presented evident spatial differences. The low-supply-high-demand patterns of Aest, SR and Recr accounted for the largest proportions, with values of 33.33%, 33.33% and 30.95%, respectively. The low-supply-low-demand patterns of SP and Cult accounted for the largest proportions, with values of 30.95% and 38.10%, respectively. The low-supply-low-demand pattern of Edu accounted for the smallest proportion (21.43%) and was mainly located in the south of Shigou Township. The southwest, northeast and central areas of Shigou Township were the key regions of tradeoffs/synergies of CES supply. There were significant differences in CES demand for SR, Cult and Edu among stakeholder groups. The results could contribute to optimizing regional ecosystem management and provide effective information for improving the imbalance between the supply and demand of CES.

In China, early childhood care and education services for children under the age of three are neglected to some extent. Based on survey data from the Health Commission in Sichuan Province of China, this study analyzes the situation of early childhood care and education services in Sichuan through a qualitative method, using an analytical framework of matching the demand and supply. The findings reveal a mismatch between demand and supply of early childhood care and education services. This gap is likely to have a negative impact on children's self-development, family stability, and even the construction of national early childhood care and education service system. Ecosystem services are characterized by region and scale, and contribute to human welfare. Taking Yantai city, a typical bay city in China, as the example, its three representative ecosystem services: food supply (FS), carbon sequestration (CS) and water yield (WY) were chosen as study targets. Based on analyzation of six different aspects of the supply and variation characteristic of demand, this study tried to propose advices for comprehensive improvement of ecosystem services for spatial optimization. The results showed that: (1) ecosystem services supply was strong in central and southern areas of Yantai, while the northern coastal areas were relatively weak; (2) synergistic relationships were found of FS-CS, FS-WY and CS-WY both in 2009 and 2015, with the strongest one for FS-WY. Additionally, in the synergistic relationships, each pair of ecosystem services was dominated by one ecosystem service; (3) most of the three pairs of synergistic relationships had the tendency to strengthen with larger scales; (4) four ecosystem demands changing areas were observed and comprehensive improvement suggestions for them were proposed. This work provides a new attempt to improve ecosystem services based on its supply-demand relationship, which will give a baseline reference for related studies in Yantai city, as well as other similar bay cities. Background: Vaccine regulation in China meets World Health Organization standards, but China's vaccine industry and immunization program have some characteristics that differ from other countries. We described the history, classification, supply and prices of vaccines available and used in China, compared with high-and middle-incomes countries to illustrate the development of Chinese vaccine industry and immunization program.Methods: Immunization policy documents were obtained from the State Council and the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC). Numbers of doses of vaccines released in China were obtained from the Biologicals Lot Release Program of the National Institutes for Food and Drug Control (NIFDC). Vaccine prices were obtained from Chinese Central Government Procurement (CCGP). International data were collected from US CDC, Public Health England, European CDC, WHO, and UNICEF.Results: Between 2007 and 2015, the annual supply of vaccines in China ranged between 666 million and 1,190 million doses, with most doses produced domestically. The government's Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) prevents 12 vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) through routine immunization. China produces vaccines that are in common use globally; however, the number of routinely-prevented diseases is fewer than in high- and middle-income countries. Contract prices for program (EPI) vaccines ranged from 0.1 to 5.7 US dollars per dose - similar to UNICEF prices. Contract prices for private-market vaccines ranged from 2.4 to 102.9 US dollars per dose - often higher than prices for comparable US, European, and UNICEF vaccines.Conclusion: China is a well-regulated producer of vaccines, but some vaccines that are important globally are not included in China's EPI system in China.
