The paper engages in 'paradigmatic talk' about public outcomes of higher education (HE). We were drawn to this paradigmatic discussion because of its inherent 'cultural' dimensions and the opportunity for us to be self-reflexive about the ontological values underlying 'cultures' that shape the articulation, representation, and enactment of HE's public outcomes. While we agree with Marginson and Yang (forthcoming) that comparisons of public outcomes of HE across cultures are not neutral, we argue that such comparisons are rooted in and driven by ontological values and commitments. We offer an analysis of how our understandings of 'public' and 'outcomes' may shift when ontological commitments and values consider representations of culture, public, affect, and temporality.

Five new species of the genus Tetra Keifer (Acari: Eriophyidae: Phyllocoptinae) from China are described and illustrated. They are Tetra qingyuanensis sp. nov. on Lespedeza sp. (Fabaceae), Tetra phragmitesus sp. nov. on Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud. (Poaceae), Tetra prunusis sp. nov. on Prunus sp. (Rosaceae), Tetra sojae sp. nov. on Glycine soja Sieb. et Zucc. (Leguminosae) and Tetra vitexus sp. nov. on Vitex negundo var. cannabifolia (Sieb. et Zucc.) Hand.-Mazz . (Verbenaceae). All the new species described in this paper are vagrants on the lower surface of host plant leaves. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Five new eriophyoid mite species from Zhejiang Province, China are described and illustrated: Diptacus coreanus sp. nov. from Litsea coreana H. Lév. (Lauraceae), Neorhynacus camphoratus sp. nov. from Cinnamomum camphora (L.) J. Presl (Lauraceae),  Rhinotergum boehmerius sp. nov. from Boehmeria gracilis C.H. Wright (Urticaceae), Rhyncaphytoptus cathayensis sp. nov from Carya cathayensis Sarg. (Juglandaceae) and Rhyncaphytoptus lanceolatus sp. nov. from Cunnighamia lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook (Cupressaceae). All species were vagrant on their host plants with no visible damage observed.
