Seaweed fertilizer, formulated primarily with seaweed extract as its main ingredient, has been extensively studied and found to significantly improve nutrient use efficiency, increase crop yield and quality, and enhance soil properties under field conditions. This growing body of evidence shows that seaweed fertilizer is a suitable option for sustainable agriculture in China. However, a comprehensive and quantitative analysis of the overall effects of seaweed fertilizer application in China is lacking. To address this gap, we conducted a meta-analysis of relevant studies on the effects of seaweed fertilizers under field conditions in China with MetaWin and SPSS software. Our analysis examined the effects of seaweed fertilizers on crop yield, quality, and growth under different preparation methods, application techniques, and regions. Our results showed that the application of seaweed fertilizer led to a significant average increase in crop yield of 15.17% compared with the control treatments. Root & tuber crops exhibited the most pronounced response, with a yield boost of 21.19%. Moreover, seaweed fertilizer application significantly improved crop quality, with elevations in the sugar-acid ratio (38.32%) vitamin C (18.07%), starch (19.65%), and protein (11.45%). In addition, plant growth parameters such as height, stem thickness, root weight, and leaf area showed significant enhancement with seaweed fertilizer use. The yield-increasing effect of seaweed fertilizers varied depending on their preparation and use method, climate, and soil of application location. Background: Xibe is the fifth largest minority population of Liaoning province. Predominately they live in Liaoning province (69.52%), followed by Xinjiang (18.06%), Heilongjiang (3.99%), Jilin (1.63%) and Inner Mongolia provinces (1.57%)., Aim: To provide an updated and precise population database on an extended set of Y STRs not available before and explore the forensic characteristics of 26 Y chromosomal STRs., Subjects & Methods: In this study, we genotyped 406 unrelated Xibe male individuals from Liaoning province using Goldeneye ® 26Y System kit and calculated the forensic parameters of these 26 Y STRs loci., Results: All haplotypes generated for 406 Xibe samples using Goldeneye ® 26Y kit were unique with a discrimination capacity (DC) of 1. On restricting the haplotypes to the Y-filer ® set of 17 Y-STRs, we observed 392 haplotypes. Among them 93.53% (380) were unique with a DC of 0.9655 and haplotype diversity (HD) of 0.9998, showing high discrimination power of the extended set of markers in this population. Allelic frequencies ranged from 0.0024 to 0.7684 across 26 Y STRs loci. DYS385 showed the highest gene diversity (0.9691) among all markers., Conclusion: According to pairwise R ST genetic distances among Xibe populations from China, the Liaoning Xibe population showed the closest genetic distance (0.0035) followed by Xinjiang Xibe population (0.0218). Multidimensional scaling (MDS) analysis among Xibe and 29 other Chinese populations showed that local populations such as Manchu from Liaoning and Han from Beijing had a close affinity while Tibetans from Aba, China, were most distant from Xibe populations. Moreover, 12 individuals showed a null allele at DYS448 in Xibe population samples. We submitted Y-STRs data in the Y-Chromosome Haplotype Reference Database (YHRD) for future forensic and other usage.

Background: As the spreading of the COVID-19 around the global, we investigated the characteristics and changes of symptoms in COVID-19 patients . Methods: This was an ambispective observational cohort study, and 133 confirmed COVID-19 patients were included and all symptoms over the course were analyzed qualitatively. The symptoms, their changes over the course in the cohort and in the different clinical types, etc. were illustrated. Differences in different periods and severities were analyzed through Chi square test, association with severity was analyzed through LASSO binomial logistic regression analysis. Inter-correlation and classification of symptoms were completed. Major symptoms were screened and their changes were illustrated. Results: A total of 43 symptoms with frequencies as 6067 in this cohort. Differences of symptoms in different stages and clinical types were significant. Expectoration, shortness of breath, dyspnea, diarrhea, poor appetite were positively but vomiting, waist discomfort, pharyngeal discomfort, acid reflux were negatively correlated with the combined-severe and critical type; dyspnea was correlated with the critical type. The 17 major symptoms were identified. The average daily frequency of symptoms per case was decreased continuously before the transition into the severe type and increased immediately one day before the transition and then decreased. It was decreased continuously before the transition date of the critical type and increased from the transition into the critical type to the next day and decreased thereafter. Dyspnea ( P <0.001), shortness of breath ( P <0.01) and chest distress ( P <0.05) were correlated with death and their corresponding coefficient was 0.393, 0.258, 0.214, respectively. Conclusion: The symptoms of COVID-19 patients mainly related to upper respiratory tract infection, cardiopulmonary function, and digestive system. The mild type and the early stage in other types mainly related to upper respiratory tract infection. The cardiopulmonary function and digestive system associated symptoms were found in all other types and stages. Dyspnea was correlated with critical type, and dyspnea, shortness of breath and chest distress were correlated with death. Respiratory dysfunction (or incompleteness) associated symptoms were the characteristic symptoms. Objectives: aCL and anti-β2 glycoprotein I antibody (aβ2GPI) are autoantibodies associated with thromboembolic diseases. Here we investigated whether they are correlated with ischaemic cardiovascular disease in a Chinese population., Methods: Serum total aCL and aβ2GPI isotypes (IgA, IgG or IgM, separately) were measured in 11 015 Chinese adults. Differences of antibody level between disease and non-disease groups were examined by t-test. The correlation between antibody and ischaemic cardiovascular disease was determined by logistic regression analysis. Performance of risk prediction models employed aCL or aβ2GPI isotypes was evaluated by C statistic, net reclassification improvement index and integrated discrimination improvement., Results: Total aCL and aβ2GPI isotypes maintained low levels and increased with increasing age except total aCL and aβ2GPI IgG in participants older than 70 years. When distinguishing ischaemic cardiovascular disease by coronary heart disease (CHD) and ischaemic stroke, the stroke group had higher levels of aCL and aβ2GPI isotypes than the non-stroke group, while the CHD group only had a slightly higher aβ2GPI IgG than non-CHD groups. aCL and aβ2GPI were positively correlated with stroke but not with CHD, and improved the performance of conventional risk factors for stroke risk prediction, with C statistic from 0.769 (95% CI 0.744, 0.793) to 0.777 (95% CI 0.754, 0.800) (aβ2GPI IgG, P = 0.0091), and 0.778 (95% CI 0.754, 0.801) (aβ2GPI IgA, P = 0.0793). Stroke risk could be better reclassified by aCL and aβ2GPI, in association with both net reclassification improvement and integrated discrimination improvement statistics (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: aCL and aβ2GPI are associated with ischaemic stroke and have added value for stroke risk prediction., (© The Author(s) 2019. Jiangsu province has severe HIV-1 epidemic in China. Suqian which is located in north of the province has limited HIV epidemic information. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize the epidemic details in the area. A total of 196 plasma samples were collected from treated HIV-1-positive cases and viral RNA was extracted. Then HIV partial pol genes (nucleotide 2147-3462 by using HXB2 as calibrator) were amplified and sequenced. Finally, 84 partial pol genes were successfully obtained. The subtyping results indicate that multiple HIV-1 subtypes are circulating in Suqian district. Thereinto, CRF01&#95;AE has been the dominant stains here and belonged to multiple lineages of CRF01&#95;AE identified in China previously. Moreover, there is a high level of HIV drug resistance. All these results suggest HIV-1 epidemic in Suqian is rather complex and more measures must be performed for prevention and intervention in the area.

Objective: To analyze genetic polymorphisms of 21 autosomal short tandem repeat (STR) loci from Quanzhou Han Chinese groups using a GlobalFiler kit, and to assess its value for forensic practice., Methods: For 402 unrelated Han individuals, allelic frequencies of 21 autosomal STR loci were determined by using the GlobalFiler kit. Genetic parameters of the 21 STR loci were calculated., Results: No deviation from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium was observed for the 21 loci. Most of the loci were highly polymorphic. Observed heterozygosity has ranged from 0.637 to 0.945, power of discrimination has ranged from 0.801 to 0.991, polymorphism information content has ranged from 0.570 to 0.940, power of exclusion was between 0.337 to 0.888, and match probability was between 0.009 to 0.199., Conclusion: GlobalFiler kit has a high value for personal identification and paternity testing for Han Chinese from Quanzhou.

Strong associations between HLA alleles and infectious and autoimmune diseases are well established. Although obesity is also associated with these diseases, the relationship between HLA and obesity has not been systematically investigated in a large cohort. In the current study, we analyzed the association of HLA alleles with BMI using data from 1.3 million healthy adult donors from the Chinese Marrow Donor Program (CMDP). We found 23 HLA alleles, including 12 low-resolution and 11 high-resolution alleles, were significantly associated with BMI after correction for multiple testing. Alleles associated with high BMI were enriched in haplotypes that were common in both Chinese and European populations, whereas the alleles associated with low BMI were enriched in haplotypes common only in Asians. Alleles B*07, DRB1*07, DRB1*12, and C*03:02 provided the strongest associations with BMI ( P = 6.89 × 10 -10 , 1.32 × 10 -9 , 1.52 × 10 -9 , and 4.45 × 10 -8 , respectively), where B*07 and DRB1*07 also had evidence for sex-specific effects ( P heterogeneity = 0.0067 and 0.00058, respectively). These results, which identify associations between alleles of HLA-B , DRB1 , and C with BMI in Chinese young adults, implicate a novel biological connection between HLA alleles and obesity., (© 2018 by the American Diabetes Association.)

GlobalFiler™ Express amplification kit incorporates 21 commonly used autosomal short tandem repeat (STR) loci and three gender determination loci. In this study, we analyzed GlobalFiler STR loci on 1006 unrelated individuals sampled of the Han population from Xiamen city, Fujian province, China. No deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium were observed. The combined probability of exclusion (CPE) for all 21 STR loci were >0.99999999771. A comparison of the allele frequencies in the population under study has been performed with other published from East Asian population for the same loci. Objective: To assess the value of 15 short tandem repeat (STR) loci selected by an AmpFLSTR Identifiler TM system for personal identification and paternity testing among ethnic Hans from Xiamen, Fujian., Methods: For 400 unrelated individuals, allelic frequencies for the 15 STR loci from the AmpFLSTR Identifiler TM kit were determined. Population genetics parameters for forensic usage were calculated., Results: No deviation of the observed allele frequency from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium expectations was found by Chi-square test (P>0.05). All of the 15 loci were highly polymorphic. Observed heterozygosity has varied between 0.580 and 0.868. Matching probability was between 0.036 and 0.148. Power of discrimination was between 0.798 and 0.967. Polymorphic information content was between 0.560 and 0.850. And power of exclusion was between 0.268 and 0.730., Conclusion: All of the 15 loci selected by the AmpFLSTR Identifiler TM system are highly polymorphic among ethnic Hans from Xiamen. By determining the alleles and allelic frequencies, data for genetic polymorphisms usable for paternity testing and personal identification for local population were obtained.

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is a widely used and effective therapy for hematopoietic malignant diseases and numerous other disorders. High-resolution human leukocyte antigen (HLA) haplotype frequency distributions not only facilitate individual donor searches but also determine the probability with which a particular patient can find HLA-matched donors in a registry. The frequencies of the HLA-A, -B, -C, -DRB1, and -DQB1 alleles and haplotypes were estimated among 169,995 Chinese volunteers using the sequencing-based typing (SBT) method. Totals of 191 HLA-A, 244 HLA-B, 146 HLA-C, 143 HLA-DRB1 and 47 HLA-DQB1 alleles were observed, which accounted for 6.98%, 7.06%, 6.46%, 9.11% and 7.91%, respectively, of the alleles in each locus in the world (IMGT 3.16 Release, Apr. 2014). Among the 100 most common haplotypes from the 169,995 individuals, nine distinct haplotypes displayed significant regionally specific distributions. Among these, three were predominant in the South China region (i.e., the 20th, 31st, and 81sthaplotypes), another three were predominant in the Southwest China region (i.e., the 68th, 79th, and 95th haplotypes), one was predominant in the South and Southwest China regions (the 18th haplotype), one was relatively common in the Northeast and North China regions (the 94th haplotype), and one was common in the Northeast, North and Northwest China (the 40th haplotype). In conclusion, this is the first to analyze high-resolution HLA diversities across the entire country of China, based on a detailed and complete data set that covered 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities. Specifically, we also evaluated the HLA matching probabilities within and between geographic regions and analyzed the regional differences in the HLA diversities in China. We believe that the data presented in this study might be useful for unrelated HLA-matched donor searches, donor registry planning, population genetic studies, and anthropogenesis studies.

Our aim was to investigate whether genetic polymorphism of IL-1F7 (rs3811047) was involved in the susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in Chinese Han population. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of IL-1F7 gene (rs3811047) was analyzed in 184 unrelated Chinese Han patients with RA and 184 healthy controls by ligase detection reaction based on high temperature ligase detection reactions polymerase chain reaction (LDR-PCR). There were no statistically significant differences in the genetic polymorphism (genotypes and allele frequencies) of IL-1F7 (rs3811047) in the patients with RA compared with control. Although all of the clinical and laboratory measures were similar to each other among patients with different genotypes, RA patients carrying AA or AG genotypes had lower swollen joint count, swollen joint index, rest pain and health assessment questionnaire (HAQ) score than that in patients having GG genotype (P < 0.05). These findings show that no evidence for the involvement of a pro-inflammatory polymorphism in the IL-1F7 in the susceptibility to RA in China. Patients carrying A allele had less severe disease activity than those not carrying this allele, suggesting that the A allele of IL-1F7 gene (rs3811047) may have a protective effect on RA., (© 2012 Blackwell Publishing Ltd.)

The characteristics of 30 carriers with occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection (OBI) were compared with those of 30 individuals diagnosed as being HBV carriers at the time of blood donation, 60 asymptomatic carriers, and 60 chronic hepatitis patients. The prevalence of genotype C was significantly higher in carriers with OBIs than in any other HBsAg-positive (HBsAg(+)) group (P < 0.001). Specific amino acid substitutions in the regions from amino acids 117 to 121 and amino acids 144 to 147 located in the major hydrophilic region of the S gene were associated with carriers with OBIs (P < 0.01 for carriers with OBIs versus HBsAg(+) donors, carriers with OBIs versus HBsAg(+) asymptomatic carriers, and carriers with OBIs versus HBsAg(+) chronic hepatitis patients). G145R was the major variation in the HBV isolates responsible for local occult HBV infections.

Occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection status of blood donors in a southern city in China was investigated by immunological assays and nucleic acid testing. Overall, 17 (0.19%, 95% CI: 0.11%-0.30%) of the 9023 HBsAg negative samples were found to be positive for the presence of HBV DNA. "A" epitope sequences were obtained from 14 among them. Mutation(s) in aa124-aa147 existed in 6 (42.9%, 6/14) samples and 4 (66.7%, 4/6)were G145R mutation. Ratio of genotype C in occult donors (10/17) was statistically higher than HBs-positive donors (0/15, P<0.01), which implied that HBV genotype C leaded to occult infection more easily.

This paper reported an epidemiological investigation on human and animals infection of eperythrozoon in 1 provinces. The results showed that eperythrozoon infection appeared in human as well as in swines, sheep, cats, donkeis and chickens. Due to geographical variations, the infection rates showed a significant difference, both in human and animals. The infection rate was not associated with sex, age or occupation in human, but was associated with seasons in animals. High peak of infection rates in animals was in May, June, July and August.
