When the favored host of an herbivorous insect pest is absent, the availability of alternative host plants can maintain insect pest populations. Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is a major invasive, polyphagous insect pest in China. To investigate the suitability of Chinese cabbage as an alternative host for S. frugiperda , oviposition preferences and life history traits were determined for S. frugiperda on Chinese cabbage, corn, and winter wheat over three generations. Results showed that S. frugiperda females preferred to lay their eggs on corn compared to winter wheat and Chinese cabbage. The survival rate of S. frugiperda decreased after switching from corn to Chinese cabbage, only 6% of individuals successfully pupated in the third generation. In addition, S. frugiperda reared on Chinese cabbage had lower pupal weight and fecundity. Winter wheat was a good host for S. frugiperda ; although the survival rate decreased when S. frugiperda switched from corn to winter wheat in the parental generation, the survival rate increased over the next two generations to be as high as those reared on corn. Chinese cabbage is not a good long-term host for S. frugiperda , but it could maintain the pest population for at least two generations when more suitable host plants are unavailable. Background: In China, gastric cancer (GC) ranks second in incidence and mortality. Over 80% of patients with GC were diagnosed at an advanced stage with poor clinical outcome. Chemotherapy was the mainstream treatment with limited benefit. Apatinib, an inhibitor of targeting vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2), has been approved for third-line treatment of advanced gastric cancer. However, the data of apatinib treatment in the real-world setting are limited. In this real-world study, we aimed to understand the current treatment pattern of apatinib, investigate the effectiveness and safety of apatinib in real-world settings, and explore the potential factors associated with the clinical outcomes. Methods: This was a prospective, multicenter observational study in a real-world setting. Patients aged ≥ 18 years with histologic diagnosis of advanced GC were eligible for enrollment. The eligible patients received either apatinib monotherapy or apatinib plus chemotherapy by physician's discretion. Apatinib treatment could be used as first-line, second-line, or third-line and above therapy. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS). The secondary endpoints were overall survival (OS), ORR, DCR, and safety profile. Results: A total of 737 patients with advanced gastric cancer treated with apatinib were included in the FAS population. A total of 54.9% patients used apatinib monotherapy and 45.1% patients used apatinib combination therapy. A total of 44.1% patients received apatinib in first-line treatment, 28.2% in second-line, and 27.7% in third-line and above. In first-line treatment, the objective response rate (ORR) was 9.09% and 16.42% in apatinib monotherapy and combination therapy groups, and disease control rate (DCR) was 78.41% and 89.29%, respectively. Patients who received combination therapy achieved significantly longer median progression-free survival (mPFS; 6.18 vs 3.52 months, p< 0.01) and median overall survival (mOS; 8.72 vs 5.92 months, p< 0.01) compared with monotherapy. In second-line and third-line therapy, combination therapy showed a better trend in tumor response and survival outcomes compared with monotherapy. For all patients, apatinib combined with paclitaxel were associated with longer mPFS compared with other combinations (8.88 vs 6.62 months). Multivariate analysis showed that combination with paclitaxel (p=0.02) and experience of apatinib-related specific AEs (p< 0.01) were independent predictors for PFS and OS. The safety profile was tolerable and no unexpected adverse events were reported. Conclusion: In a real-world setting, apatinib showed a favorable effectiveness and safety profile in patients with advanced gastric cancer. Apatinib combination therapy, especially combined with paclitaxel, might lead to better survival benefit in first-line treatment. How human activities have altered hydrological droughts (streamflow deficits) in China during the past five decades (1961–2016) is investigated using the latest version (v2.0) of PCR‐GLOBWB model at high spatial resolution (~10 km). Although both human activities and climate variability have significant effects on river flows over China, there are large regional north‐south contrasts. Over northern China, human activities generally intensify hydrological droughts. We find that human activities exacerbated drought deficit by about 70–200% from 2004 to 2015. In contrast, droughts over southern China are generally alleviated by human activities. For instance, irrigation and water management (such as reservoir operation and water abstraction) increase drought StDef (standardized drought deficit volume) by about 80% in the Yellow River (north) but reduce it by about 20% in the Yangtze River (south). Human activities slightly reduce drought deficit in the Yangtze River due to the combination of large reservoir storage and low ratio of agriculture consumption to abstracted irrigation water. In contrast, hydrological drought is aggravated in the semiarid Yellow River basin because of high water consumption from agricultural sectors. This study suggests that human activities have contrasting influences on hydrological drought characteristics in the northern (intensification) and southern (mitigation) parts of China. Therefore, it is critical to consider the variable roles of human activities on hydrological drought in China when developing mitigation and adaptation strategies. Of particular importance is streamflow drought, which jeopardizes regional water supply and local ecosystem services. On one hand, human activities through reservoir operation can effectively alleviate drought by releasing water during the low flow period. But on the other hand, water abstraction to meet sectoral water demand (such as irrigation) could exacerbate the streamflow deficit. To what extent such human activities differ across regions is not clear. In this study, we use a physically based hydrological and water resources model to investigate how human activities have altered streamflow droughts in China during the past five decades (1961–2016). We find that human activities generally alleviate streamflow droughts in the southern region (e.g., Yangtze River) but intensify them in the northern part of China (e.g., Yellow River). A multimodel ensemble of general circulation models (GCM) is a popular approach to assess hydrological impacts of climate change at local, regional, and global scales. The traditional multimodel ensemble approach has not considered different uncertainties across GCMs, which can be evaluated from the comparisons of simulations against observations. This study developed a comprehensive index to generate an optimal ensemble for two main climate fields (precipitation and temperature) for the studies of hydrological impacts of climate change over China. The index is established on the skill score of each bias-corrected model and different multimodel combinations using the outputs from phase 5 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5). Results show that the optimal ensemble of the nine selected models accurately captures the characteristics of spatial–temporal variabilities of precipitation and temperature over China. We discussed the uncertainty of subset ensembles of ranking models and optimal ensemble based on historical performance. We found that the optimal subset ensemble of nine models has relative smaller uncertainties compared with other subsets. Background: Seasonal patterns of influenza A subtypes and B lineages in tropical/subtropical regions across age have remained to be explored. The impact of the 2009 H1N1 pandemic on seasonal influenza activity have not been well understood.Methods: Based on a national sentinel hospital-based influenza surveillance system, the epidemiology of influenza virus during 2006/07-2015/16 was characterized in the subtropical city, Chengdu. Chengdu is one of the most populous cities in southwestern China, where the first reported case of A/H1N1pdm09 in mainland China was identified. Wavelet analysis was applied to identify the periodicities of A/H3N2, seasonal A/H1N1, A/H1N1pdm09, Victoria, and Yamagata across age, respectively. The persistence and age distribution patterns were described during the pre-pandemic (2006/07-2008/09), pandemic (2009/10), and post-pandemic (2010/11-2015/16) seasons.Results: A total of 10,981 respiratory specimens were collected, of which 2516 influenza cases were identified. Periodicity transition from semi-annual cycles to an annual cycle was observed for composite influenza virus as well as A/H3N2 along in Chengdu since the 2009 H1N1 pandemic. Semi-annual cycles of composite influenza virus and A/H3N2 along were observed again during 2014/15-2015/16, coinciding with the emergence and predominance of A/H3N2 significant antigenic drift groups. However, A/H1N1pdm09, Victoria, and Yamagata generally demonstrated an annual winter-spring peak in non-pandemic seasons. Along with periodicity transitions, age groups with higher positive rates shifted from school-aged children and adults to adults and the elderly for A/H1N1pdm09 during 2009/10-2010/11 and for A/H3N2 during 2014/15-2015/16.Conclusions: Differences in periodicity and age distribution by subtype/lineage and by season highlight the importance of increasing year-round influenza surveillance and developing subtype/lineage- and age-specific prevention and control measures. Changes of periodicity and age shifts should be considered in public health response to influenza pandemics and epidemics. Background and Objectives: Severe infection with avian influenza A (H5N6) virus in humans was identified first in 2014 in China. Before that, it was unknown or unclear if the disease or the pathogen affected people. This study illustrates the virological and clinical findings of a fatal H5N6 virus infection in a human patient.Methods: We obtained and analyzed the clinical, epidemiological, and virological data from the patient. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), viral culture, and sequencing were conducted for determination of the causative pathogen.Results: The patient, who presented with fever, severe pneumonia, leucopenia, and lymphopenia, developed septic shock and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and died on day 10 after illness onset. A novel reassortant avian-origin influenza A (H5N6) virus was isolated from the throat swab or trachea aspirate of the patient. The virus was reassorted with the HA gene of clade 2.3.4.4 H5, the internal genes of clade 2.3.2.1 H5, and the NA gene of the H6N6 avian virus. The cleavage site of the HA gene contained multiple basic amino acids, indicating that the novel H5N6 virus was highly pathogenic in chicken.Conclusions: A novel, highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N6 virus with a backbone of H5N1 virus acquired from the NA gene from the H6N6 virus has been identified. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine consumer reactions to product categories, online seller reputation, and brand name syllables. Design/methodology/approach – This paper uses four experimental designs to explore the seller reputation, product category, and brand name syllable effects in internet shopping. The authors chose sellers of (low/high) repute from Yahoo Mall. ANOVA is used to evaluate the results. Findings – Seller reputation moderates the effect of the brand name syllable level on purchase intention and product category moderates the effect of the brand name syllable level on purchase on internet (experiment 1). Consumers take the longest time to make purchasing decisions when buying credence goods or buying from sellers of low repute and that the response time mediates the moderating role of the product category (experiment 2) or reputation (experiment 3). Moreover, the effect of brand name syllable levels chosen/assigned by sellers of low repute is weakened for consumers with low (vs high) skepticism toward non-store shopping (experiment 4). Practical implications – This study is helpful to online sellers if they can identify their reputation, product category and those consumers have skepticism, they can create extra profit through brand name syllable practice. Originality/value – This paper extends the literature on consumers' brand name syllable processing by identifying important moderators and probing into the decision process. A long-term consistent and comprehensive dataset of land surface hydrologic fluxes and states will greatly benefit the analysis of land surface variables, their changes and interactions, and the assessment of land-atmosphere parameterizations for climate models. While some offline model studies can provide balanced water and energy budgets at land surface, few of them have presented an evaluation of the long-term interaction of water balance components over China. Here, a consistent and comprehensive land surface hydrologic fluxes and states dataset for China using the Variable Infiltration Capacity (VIC) hydrologic model driven by long-term gridded observation-based meteorological forcings is developed. The hydrologic dataset covers China with a 0.25° spatial resolution and a 3-hourly time step for 1952-2012. In the dataset, the simulated streamflow matches well with the observed monthly streamflow at the large river basins in China. Given the water balance scheme in the VIC model, the overall success at runoff simulations suggests that the long-term mean evapotranspiration is also realistically estimated. The simulated soil moisture generally reproduces the seasonal variation of the observed soil moisture at the ground stations where long-term observations are available. The modeled snow cover patterns and monthly dynamics bear an overall resemblance to the Northern Hemisphere snow cover extent data from the National Snow and Ice Data Center. Compared with global product of a similar nature, the dataset can provide a more reliable estimate of land surface variables over China. • The present study reported the prevalence of Fasciola spp. in snails from large-scale regions of China. • In China, climate and topography could affect the Fasciola spp. infection in snails. • A highly positive correlation between snails and animal infection was found in central and eastern China. • Infected snails could be an indispensable risk factor for fasciolosis transmission. Fasciolosis is a zoonotic disease as 600 million animals have been infected, and 180 million people are at risk of the infection in the world. Snail as the intermediate host of Fasciola is an essential and important factor in the transmission of fasciolosis, while its potential risk for transmission has not been studied. In this study, 3561 snails collected from large-scale regions of China were examined by nest-PCR method. A total of 345 snails were positive for Fasciola spp. , with an overall prevalence of 9.7%. Prevalence in central and southern China, characterized by a subtropical monsoon climate, was relatively low (8.0%), while a high infection rate (36.9%) was found on the plateau area (altitude > 500 m). In combination with previous findings, the study showed a highly positive correlation between snails and animal infection in central and eastern China, thus indicating that infected snails could be an indispensable risk factor for fasciolosis transmission. In September 1906, the Qing government issued an edict that promised to prepare a constitution beginning with the reform of the administrative structure. Two months later, a plan for reform in the central bureaucratic system was issued. But reforming the local bureaucratic system was slow and difficult to implement. During the preparation for the reform of local governments, different political forces from the Qing government heatedly debated the pace and scope of the reform. In the context of global climate change, it is important to monitor abnormal changes in extreme precipitation events that lead to frequent floods. This research used precipitation indices to describe variations in extreme precipitation and analyzed the characteristics of extreme precipitation in four climatic (arid, semi-arid, semi-humid and humid) regions across China. The equidistant cumulative distribution function (EDCDF) method was used to downscale and bias-correct daily precipitation in eight Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) general circulation models (GCMs). From 1961 to 2005, the humid region had stronger and longer extreme precipitation compared with the other regions. In the future, the projected extreme precipitation is mainly concentrated in summer, and there will be large areas with substantial changes in maximum consecutive 5-day precipitation (Rx5) and precipitation intensity (SDII). The greatest differences between two scenarios (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5) are in semi-arid and semi-humid areas for summer precipitation anomalies. However, the area of the four regions with an increasing trend of extreme precipitation is larger under the RCP8.5 scenario than that under the RCP4.5 scenario. Background: Fasciola hepatica is an important zoonotic parasite that causes fasciolosis in a broad range of animals. No information is available about the prevalence of F. hepatica in Père David's deer (Elaphurus davidianus), an endangered species in the world. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of fasciolosis in Père David's deer in the Dafeng Elk National Natural Reserve, Jiangsu province, China. Results: In this study, 142 fecal samples from Père David's deer were analyzed for F. hepatica by microscopy and nest-PCR. Only one sample was positive for F. hepatica according to microscopy examination, while 18 of 142 (12.68, 95%CI: 2.841–22.45%) samples were positive for F. hepatica according to nest-PCR results. Conclusions: This is the first report of prevalence of F. hepatica in Père David's deer. The prevalence data indicated that F. hepatica was also present in this endangered animal, which may cause a potential threat to this precious species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to promote the sustainable development of sludge-to-energy industry and help the decision-makers/stakeholders to select the most sustainable technology for achieving the sludge-to-energy target, this study aims at using grey Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) to identify the critical barriers that hinder the sustainable development of sludge-to-energy industry in China and to investigate the cause-effect relationships among these barriers. Accordingly, some policy implications for promoting the sustainable development of sludge-to-energy industry in China were proposed. After the grey DEMATEL analysis, a grey Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) framework which allows multiple decision-makers/stakeholders to use linguistic terms to participate in the decision-making for prioritizing the alternative technologies for sludge-to-energy was developed, and the evaluation criterion system for sustainability assessment of sludge-to-energy technologies was determined based on the results of grey DEMATEL analysis. Three alternative technologies for sludge-to-electricity were studied by the proposed MCDM method, and the results show that the proposed grey MCDM method is feasible for group decision-making and sustainability assessment of the alternative technologies for sludge-to-energy. Abstract: Deep subduction of lower continental crust to mantle depths has been recognized in outcrops and drill cores of eclogites and other ultra-high pressure (UHP) rocks of the Sulu intra-continental orogenic belt. In a search of evidence for such subducted crustal sources of melts, we study the elemental and isotope geochemistry of basalts from Anfengshan, a Miocene volcano located in the Sulu UHP belt, as well as Nd–Hf isotopes of eclogites from the Sulu belt itself. The Anfengshan basalts are basanites and nephelinites with low SiO2, high incompatible element contents, positive Nb, Ta, Sr, and negative K, Pb, Zr, Hf, and Ti anomalies. Radiogenic isotopes (87Sr/86Sr=0.70337–0.70359, εNd =+5.1–+6.7, εHf =+10.6–+12.3, 206Pb/204Pb=17.5–18.0) show some highly unusual correlations: εNd correlates positively with 87Sr/86Sr, but negatively with εHf. 87Sr/86Sr, 143Nd/144Nd, and 206Pb/204Pb ratios all correlate negatively with ΔεHf (= deviation from the global εHf–εNd correlation). The correlations form two distinct mixing arrays with one common, high-εNd end-member. Superchondritic Zr/Hf ratios (~55), and negative Zr, Hf, Ti anomalies indicate that the common mantle source component has been metasomatized by carbonatitic liquids. We suggest that the other two source components are eclogites derived from subducted lower crust: both of these differ from ordinary mantle components by their low 87Sr/86Sr and low εNd and 206Pb/204Pb, but high ΔεHf. The εNd–εHf values of the eclogites form two groups, both of which lie close to the Hf–Nd mantle array, and are therefore not direct analogues of possible source eclogites for the basalts. We explain the shift toward high ΔεHf-basalt sources as follows: an early Cretaceous igneous event extracted partial melts from the eclogites residing in the mantle, thereby increasing their (residual) Lu/Hf ratios, while changing Sm/Nd only slightly. During the Anfengshan melting event, these garnet-rich sources produced melts with low Zr/Hf and increased Nb/Nb*, Hf/Hf*, Sm/Yb ratios relative to the peridotitic source end-member. We therefore suggest that the eclogites represent the residues of mafic lower continental crust subducted during the Triassic continent–continent collision. This interpretation is supported by recent seismic tomography, which revealed a high-velocity anomaly in the uppermost mantle beneath the Sulu belt. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The new version of PRC-GLOBWB model was applied to evaluate the hydrological drought under natural conditions and human influences at a high spatial resolution (10 km by 10 km) for the period of 1961-2016. The new version of PCR-GLOBWB model performance well in simulating river discharge over China, considering the water management in the modeling framework. Results show that human activities reduce the drought frequency and standardized drought deficit volume (StDef) up to 80% in parts regions of southeast of China during the period of 1961-2016. Human water management reduce the drought frequency in south east regions about 20%-100% compared to the natural variability. Return period of the severest drought year in each province or city demonstrates that human activities release the StDef of southeast region, while natural variability play a major role in the north parts of China. Background: The effects of climatic conditions on the prevalence of individual influenza (sub)types are not well understood in the subtropics. This study aims to evaluate the associations between meteorological factors and seasonal epidemics of A(H3N2), A(H1N1)pdm09, and type B influenza viruses, as well as to estimate the interactions between climatic variables in a subtropical basin region., Methods: The seasonality of influenza (sub)types during 2010-2019 were characterized in Chengdu Plain Economic Zone, a densely populated and highly humid plain area in Sichuan Basin in subtropical Southwest China. Generalized additive models were adopted to assess the independent exposure-response relationship between meteorological variables and influenza prevalence. The interactions of meteorological variables were further estimated using bivariate response surface models and strata models., Results: Our analyses indicated that the temperature, relative humidity, and absolute humidity have exhibited a major influence on influenza infection in Chengdu Plain Economic Zone. Low temperature was shown to promote the prevalence of A(H1N1)pdm09 and type B in winter-spring days at all levels of relative humidity. High risk of A(H3N2) infections was observed at low temperature or high temperature, and at higher relative humidity. Background: Norovirus is highly diverse and constant surveillance is essential for the prevention and control of norovirus gastroenteritis., Methods: From 2015 to 2019, fecal samples were collected from sporadic cases and outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis reported to Sichuan center for disease control and prevention. Sewage samples were collected from a wastewater treatment plant in Sichuan. All samples were tested for norovirus by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Norovirus-positive clinical samples were sequenced by Sanger sequencing. Sewage samples were sequenced by amplicon and virome sequencing., Results: A total of 1462 fecal samples were collected and 11 different norovirus genotypes were detected. GII.4 Sydney 2012[P31] and GII.3[P12] were the dominant genotypes in sporadic cases whereas GII.2[P16] and GII.17[P17] were the dominant genotypes in outbreaks. GII.3 was predominant in children 0-6 months of age during spring and summer, while GII.4 was predominant in children older than 6 months and in the autumn. The detection rate of GII.17[P17] increased with age. In sewage, 16 genotypes were detected. GII.3, GII.4, GI.1, and GI.2 were the dominant genotypes., Conclusion: This study demonstrated that multiple norovirus genotypes co-circulate in Sichuan. This study was designed to assess the clinical efficacy of oral blood-activating and stasis-removing Chinese patent medicines in treating hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH) based on network Meta-analysis. The clinical randomized controlled trials(RCTs) concerning the treatment of hypertensive LVH with oral blood-activating and stasis-removing Chinese patent medicines were retrieved from CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, SinoMed, PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library from their inception to September 2021. Two researchers independently completed the literature screening, data extraction, and quality evaluation. The data were then analyzed by RevMan 5.3, Stata 15.1, and ADDIS 1.16.8. Finally, a total of 31 RCTs were included, involving 3 001 patients and four oral blood-activating and stasis-removing Chinese patent medicines. In terms of the alleviation of heart damage, the Chinese patent medicines combined with conventional western medicine groups were superior to the conventional western medicine groups in lo-wering the left ventricular mass index(LVMI). There was no significant difference in LVMI, left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF), or the ratio of early diastolic peak flow velocity to late diastolic peak flow velocity(E/A) between different Chinese patent medicines combined with conventional western medicine groups. Xinnao Shutong Capsules/Tablets combined with conventional western medicine had the best efficacy in reducing LVMI and elevating LVEF, while Xinkeshu Capsules/Tablets combined with conventional western medicine had the best effect in improving E/A. In the control of blood pressure, when all Chinese patent medicines except for Xinnao Shutong Capsules/Tablets were combined with conventional western medicine, the resulting systolic blood pressure(SBP) and diastolic blood pressure(DBP) were significantly lower than those in the conventional western medicine group. Xinkeshu Capsules/Tablets combined with conventional western medicine produced the best effect in reducing SBP and DBP, followed by Xinnao Shutong Capsules/Tablets. In terms of safety, no serious adverse reactions occurred in all trials. The four oral blood-activating and stasis-removing Chinese patent medicines included in this study exhibited obvious advantages in the treatment of hypertensive LVH when they were combined with conventional western medicine, with the best effects observed in the Xinnao Shutong Capsules/Tablets combined with conventional western medicine group. However, due to the limitation of the quantity and quality of the included articles, the conclusion of this study still needs to be verified by more high-quality, multi-center, and large-sample RCTs.

Objectives: To explore and understand the SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence of convalescents, the association between antibody levels and demographic factors, and the seroepidemiology of convalescents of COVID-19 till March 2021. Methods: We recruited 517 voluntary COVID-19 convalescents in Sichuan Province and collected 1,707 serum samples till March 2021. Then we reported the seroprevalence and analyzed the associated factors. Results: Recent travel history was associated with IgM levels. Convalescents who had recent travel history were less likely to be IgM antibody negative [OR = 0.232, 95% CI: (0.128, 0.420)]. Asymptomatic cases had, approximately, twice the odds of being IgM antibody negative compared with symptomatic cases [OR = 2.583, 95% CI: (1.554, 4.293)]. Participants without symptoms were less likely to be IgG seronegative than those with symptoms [OR = 0.511, 95% CI: (0.293, 0.891)]. Convalescents aged 40-59 were less likely to be IgG seronegative than those aged below 20 [OR = 0.364, 95% CI: (0.138, 0.959)]. The duration of positive IgM antibodies persisted 365 days while the IgG persisted more than 399 days. Conclusions: Our findings suggested that recent travel history might be associated with the antibody levels of IgM, while age could be associated with the antibody levels of IgG. Objective: To explore the regulation effect of myeloid leukemia No.1 Chinese herb medicine prescription combined with chemotherapy on Th17 cells in bone marrow fluid of AML patients, so as to provide guidance for improving AML treatment effect and patients' long-term survival., Methods: Seventy patients with AML who were hospitalized in Department of Hematology, Wuwei People's Hospital from April 2017 to August 2019 were selected and enrolled in AML group, 25 healthy volunteers were selected and enrolled in control group; then according to therapeutic regimen, AML patients were divided into 2 groups: combined therapy group (myeloid leukemia NO.1 Chinese herb medicine prescription combined with chemotherapy) and non-combined therapy group (chemotherapy alone). Flow cytometry was used to detect the ratio of CD3 + CD161 + IL-17 + IFN-γ + T cells in bone marrow fluid, and ELISA was used to detect the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and interleukin-17 (IL-17) concentrations in bone marrow fluid. Statistical analysis was performed on the data with SPSS 22.0., Results: The ratio of CD3 + CD161 + IL-17 + IFN-γ + T cells, VEGF and IL-17 concentration in newly diagnosed and relapsed AML patients were significantly higher than those in the normal control group (P<0.001); while those in CR and DFS stage patients were significantly lower than those in newly diagnosed and relapsed patients (P<0.001), and the ratio of CD3 + CD161 + IL-17 + IFN-γ + T cells, VEGF and IL-17 concentration in DFS patients with AML were not significantly different from those in the control group (P>0.05). The ratio of CD3 + CD161 + IL-17 + IFN-γ + T cells, VEGF and IL-17 concentration in CR stage of AML patients treated with chemotherapy alone were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05), but there was no difference between combined therapy group and the control group; the ratio of CD3 + CD161 + IL-17 + IFN-γ + T cells, the concentration of VEGF and IL-17 in CR stage of AML patients treated with chemotherapy alone were higher than those of patients treated with combined therapy regimen (P<0.05). AML patients treated with combined therapy regimen had a significantly higher complete remission rate compared with patients received chemotherapy alone (P<0.05), but the recurrence rate was significantly lower (P<0.05)., Conclusion: Th17 cells expression in bone marrow of newly diagnoses and relapsed AML patients significantly increase, and decrease significantly after treatment. Myeloid leukemia No.1 Chinese herb prescription combined with chemotherapy can significantly increase the CR rate and reduce the RL rate for AML.

Aim: Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is considered a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. However, the role of Lp(a) in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients is not well understood. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between Lp(a) levels and the presence of coronary artery disease (CAD) and the severity of coronary artery stenosis (CAS) in patients with stage 3-5 CKD., Patients and Methods: We retrospectively studied patients who were diagnosed with stage 3-5 CKD and underwent coronary artery angiography in Zhongda Hospital. The Gensini scoring system was used to assess the severity of coronary stenosis., Results: A total of 1003 patients were enrolled in this cross-sectional study, and 776 of these patients were diagnosed with CAD. The Lp(a) levels were significantly higher in the CAD group than the non-CAD group [271.50 (168.00-459.25) vs. 195.00 (131.00-347.00) mg/l, P<0.001]. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the Lp(a) tertiles were associated independently with the presence of CAD [tertile 2 vs. tertile 1 [adjusted odds ratio (OR)=2.063, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.394-3.053, P<0.001] and tertile 3 vs. tertile 1 (adjusted OR=2.022, 95% CI: 1.345-3.040, P=0.001)]. After adjusting for potential confounders, the Lp(a) levels were associated independently with severe CAS [tertile 2 vs. tertile 1 (adjusted OR=1.603, 95% CI: 1.040-2.472, P=0.033); tertile 3 vs. tertile 1 (adjusted OR=1.743, 95% CI: 1.128-2.693, P=0.012)]., Conclusion: Higher Lp(a) levels were associated the presence of CAD and the severe CAS among patients with stage 3-5 CKD independently.

Background: Dyslipidemia is a well-established risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Serum lipids were affected by several gene polymorphisms, folate, homocysteine and other metabolite levels. We aim to investigate the effects of homocysteine metabolism enzyme polymorphisms (MTHTR C677T, MTHFR A1298C, MTR A2756G and MTRR A66G) and their interactions with folate, homocysteine on serum lipid levels in Chinese patients with hypertension., Methods: Participants were 480 hypertensive adults that enrolled in September to December 2005 from six different Chinese hospitals (Harbin, Shanghai, Shenyang, Beijing, Xi'an, and Nanjing). Known MTHFR C677T, MTHFR A1298C, MTR A2756G and MTRR A66G genotypes were determined by PCR-RFLP methods. Serum folate was measured by chemiluminescent immunoassay, homocysteine was measured by high-performance liquid chromatography, serum lipids parameters were determined by an automatic biochemistry analyzer, low-density lipoprotein was calculated by Friedewald's equation. Unitary linear regression model was used to assess the associations of gene polymorphisms, folate and homocysteine on serum lipid profiles. Unconditional logistic regression model was applied to test the interactions of folate, homocysteine and gene polymorphisms on dyslipidemia., Results: No correlations between gene polymorphisms and homocysteine on serum lipid profiles. Compared with normal folate patients, patients with low folate showed higher odds of hypertriglyceridemia (OR = 2.02, 95 % CI: 1.25-3.25, P = 0.004) and low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (OR = 1.88, 95 % CI: 1.07-3.28, P = 0.027). Each of four gene polymorphisms (MTHTR C677T, MTHFR A1298C, MTR A2756G and MTRR A66G) combined with low folate showed higher odds of hypertriglyceridemia (P for trend: 0.049, 0.004, 0.007 and 0.005, respectively). MTHFR C677T and A1298C with low folate showed higher odds of low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P for trend: 0.008 and 0.031)., Conclusions: Low folate status and homocysteine metabolism gene polymorphisms (MTHTR C677T, MTHFR A1298C, MTR A2756G and MTRR A66G) may have a synergistic effect increased the incidence of dyslipidemia in Chinese hypertensive population.

Aim: To perform a large-scale retrospective comparison of laparoendoscopic single-site cholecystectomy (LESSC) and three-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy (TPLC) in a single institution., Methods: Data were collected from 366 patients undergoing LESSC between January 2005 and July 2008 and were compared with the data from 355 patients undergoing TPLC between August 2008 and November 2011 in our department. Patients with body mass index greater than 35 kg/m(2), a history of major upper abdominal surgery, signs of acute cholecystitis, such as fever, right upper quadrant tenderness with or without Murphy's sign, elevated white blood cell count, imaging findings suggestive of pericholecystic fluid, gallbladder wall thickening > 4 mm, and gallstones > 3 cm, were excluded to avoid bias., Results: Altogether, 298 LESSC and 315 TPLC patients met the inclusion criteria. The groups were well matched with regard to demographic data. There were no significant differences in terms of postoperative complications (contusion: 19 vs 25 and hematoma at incision: 11 vs 19), hospital stay (mean ± SD, 1.4 ± 0.2 d vs 1.4 ± 0.7 d) and visual analogue pain score (mean ± SD, 8 h after surgery: 2.3 ± 1.4 vs 2.3 ± 1.3 and at day 1: 1.2 ± 0.4 vs 1.3 ± 1.2) between the LESSC and TPLC patients. Four patients required the addition of extra ports and 2 patients were converted to open surgery in the LESSC group, which was not significantly different when compared with TPLC patients converted to laparotomy (2 vs 2). LESSC resulted in a longer operating time (mean ± SD, 54.8 ± 11.0 min vs 33.5 ± 9.0 min), a higher incidence of intraoperative gallbladder perforation (56 vs 6) and higher operating cost (mean ± SD, 1933.7 ± 64.4 USD vs 1874.7 ± 46.2 USD) than TPLC. No significant differences in operating time (mean ± SD, 34.3 ± 6.0 min vs 32.7 ± 8.7 min) and total cost (mean ± SD, 1881.3 ± 32.8 USD vs 1876.2 ± 33.4 USD) were found when the last 100 cases in the two groups were compared. A correlation was observed between reduced operating time of LESSC and increased experience (Spearman rank correlation coefficient, -0.28). More patients in the LESSC group expressed satisfaction with the cosmetic result (98% vs 85%)., Conclusion: LESSC is a safe and feasible procedure in selected patients with benign gallbladder diseases, with the significant advantage of cosmesis.

The clinical throat swab specimen of an imported suspected case of influenza A (H1N1) was detec ted with real-time PCR, RT-PCR and subsequently confirmed by gene sequencing. The presence of influ enza A (H1N1) virus confirmed the first case with A (H1N1) infection in Mainland China.

Objective: To investigate the polymorphic distribution of short tandem repeat (STR) sequences D21S1433, D21S1442, D21S1444, D21S2051 in Guangdong Han nationality in China., Methods: Using quantitative fluorescens PCR technology, the authors analyzed 200 unrelated samples to acknowledge the allele frequency, heterozygosity and other genetic information., Results: D21S1433, D21S1442, D21S1444, D21S2051 were tested in 200 samples, which were tested to be statistical according to Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (P> 0.05), 9, 10, 9 and 5 alleles were detected separately in each STRs. The heterozygosity of each STR was 0.818, 0.820, 0.770, and 0.261. The polymorphic information content > 0.7 in D21S1433, D21S1442, D21S1444, while D21S2051 owned only 0.247 polymorphic information., Conclusion: D21S1433, D21S1442, D21S1444 are found to have high heterozygosity and polymorphic information content, and they could provide useful markers for genetic purposes, while D21S2051 is not informative in Guangdong Han nationality in China.
