Background: Gutmicrobiome (GM) and type 2 diabetesmellitus (T2DM) have twoway effects. Improving T2DM by modulating GM in various ways, such as diet, exercise, and medication, is gradually becoming popular, and related studies have yielded positive results. However, there is still a lack of high-quality bibliometric analyses of research in this area. This study aims to systematize and comprehensively summarize the knowledge structure, research tropics, and research trends of GM and T2DM through bibliometric analysis. Methods: Publications related to GMand T2DM before January 9, 2024, in the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) were searched in this study. Microsoft Excel 2019 was used to analyze publishing trends and CiteSpace (v.6.1.R6 Advanced) was used to analyze institutions, cited journals, references, and keywords.SCImago Graphica (v.1.0.39) was used to analyze countries/regions, institutions' collaborations, cited authors, and published journals. Results: We finally included 1004 articles published from 2008 to 2023. The number of published articles showed an upward trend and reached its peak in 2022. China is the country with the largest number of articles, Univ Copenhagen is the institution with the largest number of articles, Fukui, Michiaki, Hamaguchi, Masahide are the scholars with the largest number of articles, and Cani and Patrice D. are the scholars with the largest number of citations. NUTRIENTS(Q1/5.9) published the most publications, while Nature (Q1/64.8; Cited 804 times) is the most frequently cited journal. Gut microbiota, Obesity, and insulin resistance are the most frequently used keywords. This study found that current researches focus on the effects of diet, exercise, and pharmacological modification of GM to improve T2DM and explores specific mechanisms. Future researches will focus on three areas: complications of T2DM and specific physiological processes, methods and measures to regulate GM, and new experimental techniques and assays. Conclusion: The current researches confirmed the effects and specificmechanisms ofmodulatingGMto improve T2DM. Further exploration of the effects of modulating GM on T2DM complications and specific physiologic processes is a future trend of research. Background: Children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) frequently suffer from persistent gastrointestinal symptoms, such as constipation and diarrhea. Various studies have highlighted differences in gut microbiota composition between individuals with ASD and healthy controls of similar ages. However, it's essential to recognize that these disparities may be influenced by cultural practices, dietary habits, and environmental factors. Methods: In this study, we collected fecal samples from both children diagnosed with ASD (n = 42) and healthy individuals (n = 41) residing in the southeastern coastal region of China. Subsequently, 16 S rRNA gene sequencing and advanced bioinformatics analyses were conducted to investigate the distinctive features of gut microbial communities within each group. Results: The ASD group consisted of 28 males and 14 females, with a median age of 5.8 years, while the control group included 25 males and 16 females, with a median age of 6.8 years. Among the 83 sequenced fecal samples, a total of 1031 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were identified. These included 122 unique OTUs specific to the control group and 285 unique OTUs specific to the ASD group. Analyses of α-diversity and β-diversity unveiled significant differences in the abundance and composition of gut microbiota between the two groups. It was found that the dominant bacterial taxa in healthy individuals were UBA1819, Flavonifractor, and Bradyrhizobium. In contrast, the ASD group exhibited a prevalence of Streptococcus, Ruminococcus, and Ruminiclostridium. Further analysis using Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and Clusters of Orthologous Groups (COG) showed significant differences in the metabolic functionalities of the gut microbiota between the two groups. Notably, the metabolic pathway related to alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) in the gut microbiota of the ASD group was notably diminished compared to the control group. Conversely, the ASD group demonstrated significantly elevated levels of metabolic pathways involving uncharacterized conserved proteins, aminoglycoside phosphotransferase, and inorganic pyrophosphatase compared to the control group. Conclusions: Overall, these results confirm that there are significant differences in the gut microbiota structure between children with ASD and healthy controls in the southeast coastal region of China. This underscores the critical significance of delving into clinical interventions capable of mitigating the gastrointestinal and psychological symptoms encountered by children with ASD. Background and aim: The association between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and metabolic syndrome (MetS) has been studied previously; however, the results remain controversial, which could be partly due to the different criteria used for defining MetS. We adopted five MetS criteria to provide better understanding of the association between H. pylori infection and MetS. Methods: Physical examination data of 100,708 subjects were obtained from January 2014 to December 2018. MetS was defined based on five criteria including: International Diabetes Federation (IDF), The Third Report of the National Cholesterol Education Program Expert Panel, Adult Treatment Panel III (ATP III), Joint Statement of International Multi-Societies (JIS), Chinese Diabetes Society (CDS), and the Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes in China (2017 edition)(CDS DM). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to elucidate the association between H. pylori infection and MetS and its components. Results: The prevalence of MetS defined assessed using IDF, ATP III, JIS, CDS and CDS DM criteria was 15.8%, 19.9%, 23.7%, 8.7% and 15.4%, respectively. In males, the prevalence of MetS assessed using the five criteria in H. pylori-positive group was higher than that in negative-group; however, in females, same results were obtained using the three international criteria. In males, the prevalence of all MetS components was found to be higher in the H. pylori-positive group than those in the negative group; however, in females, only the prevalence of dyslipidemia and waist circumferences exhibited significant differences. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that H. pylori infection in males was positively correlated with MetS. Additionally, H. pylori infection was found to be positively correlated with the waist circumference in the general population, and with hypertension and hyperglycemia in males. Covid-19 has caused worldwide devastation. IFIH1 is a pattern recognition receptor that senses coronavirus RNA and triggers interferon production as a first line of viral immune defense. The role of IFIH1 polymorphism, rs1990760 (C>T; aaA946T) in the epidemiology of viral infection is well studied, and the minor allele T resists viral infection. Knock-in mice with mutated IFIH1 protein (946T) for this allele have enhanced interferon production and protection from lethal viral infection. The minor allele frequency (Tmaf) varies widely from Africans (0.06 to 0.35) to Chinese (0.19 to 0.23) to Caucasians (0.56 to 0.69). During the initial days of infection when the social restrictions were not imposed, I show that the infection rate in Italy was lower as expected from its higher Tmaf (0.56) than that in China (Tmaf for southern China, 0.23). The infection rate in the USA and Spain was intermediate between those two countries despite higher Caucasian overall Tmaf (0.69), perhaps due to a more admixed African population in these countries. These analyses suggest that African-Americans and Chinese with low Tmaf of rs1990760 are more vulnerable to SARS-COV2 infection, apart from other genetic factors or socioeconomic conditions in these population. Objective Although the number of convincingly established genetic associations with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) has increased sharply over the last few years, refinement of these associations is required, and their potential roles in gene-gene interactions need to be further investigated. Recent genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in SLE have produced renewed interest in B cell/T cell responses and the NF-κB signaling pathway. The aim of this study was to search for possible gene-gene interactions based on identified single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), in using an approach based on the role of signaling pathways. Methods The SNPs in BLK, TNFSF4, TRAF1, TNFAIP3, and REL were replicated in order to evaluate genetic associations with SLE. TaqMan genotyping was conducted in 804 Chinese patients with SLE and 722 matched control subjects. A multiple logistic regression model was used to estimate the multiplicative interaction effect of the SNPs, and additive interactions were analyzed by 2 × 2 factorial designs. Data from a previously published GWAS conducted by the International Consortium on the Genetics of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus were derived for comparison and validation. Results Single-marker analysis validated the association of BLK rs2736340 ( P = 4.25 × 10−6) as well as TNFSF4 rs2205960 ( P = 2.82 × 10−5) and TNFAIP3 rs5029939 ( P = 1.92 × 10−3) with SLE susceptibility in Chinese. Multiplicative interaction analysis indicated that BLK had an interactive effect with TNFSF4 in Chinese patients with SLE ( P = 6.57 × 10−4). Additive interaction analysis revealed interactions between TRAF1 and TNFAIP3 in both Chinese ( P = 2.18 × 10−3) and Caucasians ( P = 2.86 × 10−4). In addition, multiple tendencies toward interactions were observed, and an additive effect was observed as the number of risk genotypes increased. Conclusion The results of this study provide evidence of the possible gene-gene interactions of BLK, TNFSF4, TRAF1, TNFAIP3, and REL in SLE, which may represent a synergic effect of T cells and B cells through the NF-κB pathway in determining immunologic aberration. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex immune disease. The genetic variation in the NCF2 gene was found to associate with SLE in US and European populations. However, the association of rs10911363 with SLE was not extensively studied in Chinese mainland population. A total of 488 SLE patients and 380 controls were recruited. Unlabeled probe-based high-resolution melting analysis (HRMA) was used in genotyping. HRMA with unlabeled probe successfully distinguished all genotypes. Neither genotype nor allele frequencies of single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs10911363 showed statistically significant differences between SLE patients and controls. The association of SNP rs10911363 with the diagnostic criteria of SLE was also examined. Minor allele (G) of rs10911363 was found to significantly associate with the incidence of arthritis ( p = 0.024, odds ratio (OR) = 1.35, and 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.04-1.75) and increased abnormalities of antinuclear antibody ( p = 0.002, OR = 1.51, and 95%CI = 1.17-1.95) and anti-DNA ( p = 0.013, OR = 1.40, and 95%CI = 1.07-1.82). Polymorphisms of rs13277113 in NCF2 gene were associated with arthritis and autoantibody production, but not disease risk, of SLE in Chinese population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
