Background: Acupuncture has been widely used to relieve migraine-related symptoms. However, the findings of previous systematic reviews (SRs) and meta-analyses (MAs) are still not completely consistent. Their quality is also unknown, so a comprehensive study is needed., Objective: To evaluate the reporting and methodological quality of these MAs concerning acupuncture for migraine, and summarize evidence about the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for migraine., Search Strategy: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biomedical Databases, Wanfang Data, and VIP databases were searched from inception to September 2020, with a comprehensive search strategy., Inclusion Criteria: The pairwise MAs of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) concerning migraine treated by acupuncture or acupuncture-based therapies, with a control group that received sham acupuncture, medication, no treatment, or acupuncture at different acupoints were included., Data Extraction and Analysis: Two independent investigators screened studies, extracted relevant data, and assessed reporting and methodological quality using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2009 and A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR 2), then all results were cross-checked. Spearman correlation test was used to evaluate the correlation between reporting and methodological quality scores., Results: A total of 20 MAs were included in this study. The included MAs indicated that acupuncture was efficacious and safe in preventing and treating migraine when compared with control intervention. There was a high correlation between reporting and methodological quality scores (r s  = 0.87, P < 0.001). The quality of the included SRs needs to be improved mainly with regard to protocol and prospective registration, using a comprehensive search strategy, summarizing the strength of evidence body for key outcomes, a full list of excluded studies with reasons for exclusion, reporting of RCTs' funding sources, and assessing the potential impact of risk of bias in RCTs on MA results., Conclusion: Acupuncture is an effective and safe intervention for preventing and treating migraine, and could be considered as a good option for patients with migraine. However, the reporting and methodological quality of MAs included in this overview is suboptimal. Background: We aimed to investigate risk factors of early mortality following pericardiectomy., Methods: This was a retrospective study of patients undergoing pericardiectomy between January 1994 and May 2021 at The People's Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Ruikang Hospital Affiliated to Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine, and The People's Hospital of Liuzhou City., Results: This study included 826 patients, who were divided into two groups: group with operative deaths (N = 66) and group without operative deaths (N = 760). There were 66 operative deaths (66/826, 8.0%). The causes of operative deaths were multiorgan failure (86/826, 10.4%). Preoperative CVP (P < 0.001), chest drainage (P < 0.001), surgical duration (P < 0.001), fluid balance postoperative day D2 (P < 0.001), and tuberculosis pericarditis (P = 0.001) in group with operative deaths were significantly higher than those in group without operative deaths. Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that factors associated with operative deaths include male (P < 0.001), age (P < 0.001), ICU retention time (P < 0.001), postoperative hospitalization time (P < 0.001), preoperative central venous pressure (P = 0.018), postoperative central venous pressure (P < 0.001), D0 fluid balance (P < 0.001), D2 fluid balance (P < 0.001), postoperative chest drainage (P = 0.029), surgical duration (P = 0.003), serum creatinine baseline (P = 0.002), serum creatinine 24h after surgery (P < 0.001), serum creatinine 48h after surgery (P < 0.001), blood lactate (P < 0.001), and tuberculosis pericarditis (P = 0.033)., Conclusion: In our study, incomplete pericardial dissection, fluid overload, and tuberculosis pericarditis are associated with operative deaths following pericardiectomy.

Background: The operative mortality of pericardiectomy still is high. This retrospective study was conducted to determine the risk factors of early mortality and multiorgan failure., Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients undergoing pericardiectomy from January 2009 to June 2020 at our hospital. Pericardiectomy was performed via sternotomy. Histopathologic studies of pericardium tissue from every patient were done. All survivors were monitored to the end date of the study., Results: Ninety-two consecutive patients undergoing pericardiectomy for constrictive pericarditis were included in the study. Postoperatively, central venous pressure significantly decreased, and left ventricular end diastolic dimension and left ventricular ejection fractions significantly improved. The overall mortality rate was 5.4%. The common postoperative complications include acute renal injury (27.2%), and multiorgan failure (8.7%). Analyses of risk factors showed that fluid balance of the second day following operation is associated with early mortality and multiorgan failure. In this series from Guangxi, China, characteristic histopathologic features of tuberculosis (60/92, 65.2%) of pericardium were the most common histopathologic findings, and 32 patients (32/92, 34.8%) had the histopathologic findings of chronic nonspecific inflammatory changes. The functional status of the patients improved after pericardiectomy; 6 months later postoperatively 85 survivors were in class I (85/87, 97.7%) and two were in class II (2/87, 2.3%)., Conclusions: Tuberculosis is the most common cause of constrictive pericarditis in Guangxi, China. Fluid balance of the second day following operation is associated with early mortality and multiorgan failure after pericardiectomy for constrictive pericarditis in our study.

Background: Low cardiac output syndrome is the main cause of death after pericardiectomy., Methods: Patients who underwent pericardiectomy for constrictive pericarditis from January 2009 to October 2020 at our hospital were included in the study. Histopathologic studies of pericardium tissue from every patient were performed. All survivors were followed up., Results: Ninety-two consecutive patients underdoing pericardiectomy were included in the study. The incidence of postoperative low cardiac output syndrome was 10.7% (10/92). There were five operative deaths. Mortality and incidence of LCOS in the group with pericardial effusion were significantly higher than those in the group without pericardial effusion. Tuberculosis of the pericardium (60/92, 65.2%) was the most common histopathologic finding in this study. Both univariate and multivariate analyses showed that preoperative pericardial effusion is associated with increased rate of low cardiac output syndrome. Eighty-five survivors were in NYHA class I (85/87, 97.7%), and two were in class II (2/87, 2.3%) at the latest follow up., Conclusions: Preoperative pericardial effusion is associated with low cardiac output syndrome after pericardiectomy. Tuberculosis of the pericardium was the most common histopathologic finding in this study. For constrictive pericarditis caused by tuberculous bacteria, systematic antituberculosis drugs should be given. Preoperative pericardial effusion is associated with increased rate of low cardiac output syndrome. Perfect preoperative preparation is very important to reduce the incidence of postoperative low cardiac output syndrome and mortality. It is very important to use a large dose of diuretics with cardiotonic or vasopressor in a short time after the operation.

Birth cohort is an important observational study which can continuously and dynamically collect the exposure changes and health outcomes from gametophyte development to adolescence and even old age. However, because of its complex design and difficult implementation, how to construct birth cohort with high quality and high efficiency is the main difficulty faced by epidemiologists at home and abroad. In 2016, China National Birth Cohort was officially launched. The network and information technology were used to explore, and a set of "cloud-based information platform" was established to support this queue construction, containing 16 units in China. After four years of development, the platform has formed a complete set of programs about the construction of cohort information platform, which including recruitment and follow-up management of participants, real-time data interaction, queue quality control, multi-level authority management and function division. The relevant design framework and functional elements provide the references to the future information construction of large-scale birth cohort and even population-based research in China.

Aeolian dust episodes (ADEs) have been an emergency disaster in the Kaoping River Valley during the rainy season (May-September), which can severely deteriorate ambient particulate air quality in the region surrounding the Kaoping River. Thus, this study aims to characterize the metallic fingerprint of Aeolian dust (AD) and investigate the effects of ADEs on ambient particulate air quality along the Kaoping River Valley. Four manual sampling sites adjacent to the riverside were selected to collect fine (PM2.5) and coarse (PM2.5-10) aerosol samples during and after the ADEs in the periods of six events. A total of 13 metallic elements were analyzed using an inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometer. With metallic elements analysis and nonparametric statistical methods of Wilcoxon rank-sum test and Kruskal-Wallis test, this study successfully derived the metallic indicators of ADEs. The mass ratios of crustal elements (Fe, Ca, or Al) to reference element (Cd) obtained during the ADEs were much higher than those obtained after the ADEs. High mass ratios of Fe/Cd, Ca/Cd, and Al/Cd in PM2.5-10 were observed on the influenced areas of ADEs. Among them, (Fe/Cd)2.5-10 was proven as the best indicator which can be applied to effectively validate the existence of ADEs and evaluate their influences on ambient air quality. Moreover, PM2.5 concentrations during the ADEs were 3-3.6 fold higher than those after the ADEs. PM2.5 should be a contributor to AD, even though the mass ratios of PM2.5/PM10 ranged from 0.05 to 0.20 during the ADEs. Our findings provide valuable information regarding the characteristics of the AD during the ADEs in the Kaoping River., Implications: Indicators of (Fe/Cd) 2.5-10 are approximately applied to observe the effects of ADEs. Local governments could realize the mechanisms of S- and NW-type aeolian dust episodes (ADEs). They can cause deterioration in different ways for the regional air quality surrounding Kaoping River Valley. Residents who have been living in the influenced areas can take precautions to prevent damage from aeolian dust. Strategies for curbing ADEs must reduce the area of bare lands by artificial measures in the long period of the sunny days during the rainy season. Future research should examine physical conditions of topsoils and other chemical composition in aeolian dust.

Aim: To assess the possible role of genetic polymorphisms in DNA repair gene XRCC1 (X-ray repair cross-complementing group 1) during spermatogenesis by investigating the associations of one promoter polymorphism (T-77C) and two exonic polymorphisms (Arg194Trp and Arg399Gln) in XRCC1 gene with risk of idiopathic azoospermia in a Chinese population., Methods: The genotype and allele frequencies of three observed polymorphisms were examined by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism based on a Chinese population consisting of 171 idiopathic azoospermia subjects and 247 normal-spermatogenesis controls., Results: In our study, all the observed genotype frequencies were in agreement with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The 399A (GA+AA) allele frequency for idiopathic azoospermia subjects and controls was 0.216 and 0.269, respectively. Compared with GG genotype, the AA genotype of Arg399Gln showed a significant association with a decreased risk of idiopathic azoospermia (odds ratio = 0.315; 95% confidence interval = 0.12-0.86). However, no significant differences were found between the cases and controls for T-77C and Arg194Trp polymorphisms. The major haplotypes of XRCC1 gene were TCG, TTG and TCA, whereas no haplotypes appeared to be significantly associated with idiopathic azoospermia based on the cutoff of P < 0.05., Conclusion: In a selected Chinese population, AA genotype of Arg399Gln appears to contribute to a decreased risk of idiopathic azoospermia, while we have not any evidence of involvement of XRCC1 T-77C and Arg194Trp polymorphisms in idiopathic azoospermia.

Background: Azoospermia factor c (AZFc) subdeletions were reported to be significant risk factors for spermatogenesis. In this study, we assessed the occurrence of classical AZF deletions and AZFc subdeletions and their impact on male infertility in a Han-Chinese population., Methods: This study analysed a population of 699 subjects, including 451 idiopathic infertile patients with a range of fertility disorders and 248 fertile controls, using a retrospective design. Deletions were identified by multiplex PCR., Results: The prevalence and phenotypes of the classical AZF deletions were similar to previous studies. Subdeletions of the AZFc region in patients showed similar overall frequencies in all sperm concentration categories of gr/gr (7.0%) and b2/b3 (8.9%). For controls, these subdeletions were also found with a prevalence of gr/gr (7.7%) and b2/b3 (3.2%). b1/b3 deletions were not found either in the patients or in the controls., Conclusion: Our data showed a higher frequency of deletion events in this Han-Chinese population than in populations elsewhere in the world. The classical AZF deletions were the primary genetic factors for spermatogenic failure, while no significant association was found for AZFc subdeletions with sperm concentration. However, the b2/b3 subdeletion was significantly associated with idiopathic male infertility (odds ratio, 2.93; 95% confidence interval 1.34-6.39) (P = 0.005), indicating a potential impairment of male fertility.
