Affected by global warming, the frequency of crop pests and diseases have increased, causing huge losses to agricultural production. To better grasp the development and trends of research on the effects of climate change on crop pests and diseases, the literature on the impact of climate change on crop pests and diseases published from 1990 to 2021 in the Web of Science (WOS) core collection database was used. This study explores the literature characteristics and hotspot evolution through the bibliometric visualization analysis software COOC, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace, with a view to identifying the changing characteristics and trends of research changes in this field. The results showed that the number of literature on the impact of climate change on crop pests and diseases increased rapidly. The main fields involved include environmental sciences, ecology, and agronomy. Papers in these fields mainly published in journals, such as PLos One, Forest Ecology and Management, and Frontiers in Plant Science. The country with the highest number of publications was the United States, followed by China and Australia. The most prolific authors in the top 20 are research scholars from China. The first author of the top 20 highly cited papers was from the United States. It was found that that current research on the impact of climate change on crop pests and diseases mainly focuses on agricultural production and food safety. Modelling and crop growth has maintained steady development. At present, research in this field mainly focuses on pest management strategies under the impact of climate change, the response of single species, and the complex ecological mechanisms behind the response. This study provides unique insights into the research field of the impact of climate change on crop pests and diseases and provides a reference direction for future research development in this field. Canine influenza viruses (CIVs) could be a source of influenza viruses which infect humans because canine are important companion pets. To assess the potential risk of H3N2 CIVs currently circulating in southern China to public health, biological characteristics of A/canine/Guangdong/DY1/2019 (CADY1/2019) were detected. CADY1/2019 bound to both avian-type and human-type receptors. CADY1/2019 had a similar pH value for HA protein fusion to human viruses, but its antigenicity was obviously different from those of current human H3N2 influenza viruses (IVs) or the vaccine strains recommended in the North hemisphere. CADY1/2019 effectively replicated in the respiratory tract and was transmitted by physical contact among guinea pigs. Compared to human H3N2 IV, CADY1/2019 exhibited higher replication in MDCK, A549, 3D4/21, ST, and PK15 cells. Sequence analysis indicated that CADY1/2019 is an avian-origin virus, and belongs to the novel clade and has acquired many adaptation mutations to infect other mammals, including human. Taken together, currently circulating H3N2 CIVs have a zoonotic potential, and there is a need for strengthening surveillance and monitoring of their pathogenicity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) along with hydroxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (OH-PBDEs) and methoxylated polybrominated diphenyl ethers (MeO-PBDEs) were found in plant and soil samples collected surrounding a seafood processing factory and a seafood market in China. The profiles of MeO-PBDE congeners were different between seafood processing factory and seafood market. The detection frequency and concentration of 6-OH-BDE-47 were lower than that of MeO-PBDEs. Near seafood processing factory, a decreasing trend of analyte concentrations in plants was found downstream the river where factory wastewater was discharged. Concentrations of ΣMeO-PBDEs in plant and soil samples showed difference as root > soil > leaf. However, at seafood market, the concentrations of ΣMeO-PBDEs were much higher in leaves than those in soil. The concentration of ΣMeO-PBDEs in leaves showed a remarkable difference between Calystegia soldanella (Linn.) R. Br. and Setaira viridis (L.) Beauv. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a universal chronic disease in China. The balance of the gut microbiome is highly crucial for a healthy human body, especially for the immune system. However, the relationship between the gut microbiome and CKD has not yet been clarified.Methods: A total of 122 patients were recruited for this study. Among them, 24 patients were diagnosed with CKD5 but did not receive hemodialysis therapy, 29 patients were diagnosed with CKD5 and received hemodialysis therapy and 69 were matched healthy controls. The gut microbiome composition was analyzed by a 16S rRNA (16S ribosomal RNA) gene-based sequencing protocol. High-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC/ESI-MS/MS) technology was used to evaluate the levels of microbiome-related protein-binding uremic toxins level, indoxyl sulfate (IS) and p-cresyl sulfate (PCS), in the patients.Results: We compared the gut microbiome results of 122 subjects and established a correlation between the gut microbiome and IS and PCS levels. The results indicated that alpha and beta diversity were different in patients with CKD5 than in the healthy controls (p < 0.01). In comparison to healthy controls, CKD5 patients exhibited a significantly higher relative abundance of Neisseria (p < 0.001), Lachnoclostridium (p < 0.001) and Bifidobacterium (p < 0.001). Faecalibacterium (p < 0.001) displayed a notably lower relative abundance for CKD5 patients both with and without hemodialysis than for controls. It was also found that the concentrations of IS and PCS were correlated with the gut microbiome.Conclusions: Our results indicate that CKD5 patients both with and without hemodialysis had dysbiosis of the gut microbiome and that this dysbiosis was associated with an accumulation of IS and PCS. Water resource shortage and arsenic (As) water pollution are threatening human food security. Using As micro-polluted water for agricultural production may alleviate the water resource shortage situation after solving the As problem. In situ formed hydrous titanium oxide possesses much higher As immobilization potential than purchased TiO 2 because of its higher specific surface area and more abundant active hydroxyl group, which is proposed to reduce the As uptake of aquatic vegetables planted in As micro-polluted water. Herein, TiOSO 4 solution, which can hydrolyze into hydrous titanium oxide during dilution in water, was used as a new water amendment to realize in situ As immobilization in lake water (100 μg-As/L) during cultivation of water spinach. We found that TiOSO 4 could immobilize trace level As with its dosage as the main factor influencing the efficiency through response surface analysis. A low dosage TiOSO 4 treatment of 0.5 mg/L could reduce the As content in the edible part from 0.64 to 0.40 mg/kg, which satisfied the vegetable As standard of China (0.5 mg/kg). The shoot As content was negatively related to the used TiOSO 4 dosage and could be further reduced to 0.16 mg-As/kg at a dosage of 4 mg/L TiOSO 4 , while the health risk index of eating water spinach could be reduced by 75% (from 1.6 to 0.4). Therefore, TiOSO 4 is a useful in situ As immobilization reagent during cultivation of water spinach and may possibly be used in the production of other aquatic vegetables. In situ TiOSO 4 treatment may be an effective and facile strategy for the agricultural utilization of As micro-polluted surface water, which can alleviate the shortage on safe agricultural water resource in the context of widespread water micro-pollution. In recent years, fowl adenoviruses (FAdVs) continue to outbreak and cause huge economic losses to the poultry industry in China. The homologous recombination accounts for the diversity serotypes of adenovirus. However, the prevalence, recombination and pathogenicity of current FAdVs remain unclear. Herein, the prevalence, phylogenetic feature and pathogenicity of FAdVs in China in 2019 were characterized. Our findings showed that multiple species and serotypes of FAdVs currently circulate in China, including A, C, D and E species, and 1, 2, 4, 8a and 8b serotypes. Notably, the recombination occurred between FAdV-8a and FAdV-8b, and the recombination regions included Hexon, Fiber, ORF19 and ORF20. All five FAdVs replicated effectively in various chicken tissues, and viral shedding peaked at 4–8 dpi. Except CH/GDSZ/1905(FAdV-1/A), the remaining FAdVs caused obvious inclusion body hepatitis (IBH) in 3-week-old specific-pathogen-free (SPF) chickens, of which CH/JSXZ/1905(FAdV-4/C) caused hydropericardium-hepatitis syndrome (HHS) with a mortality rate of 62.5%. Abstract: In recent years, coal mines in China have seen accidents caused by sudden release of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), with higher severity. Based on recent local and overseas research on the origin of hydrogen sulfide and the comparative analysis of isotopes, the paper presents three formation models of hydrogen sulfide: bacterial sulfate reduction (BSR), thermo-chemical sulfate reduction (TSR) and igneous activity, as well as the characteristics for identification. This paper analyzes and categorizes the formation models of some hydrogen sulfide in coal seams in China. Some suggestions were put forward for future research of H2S in coal mines in China. Rice consumption is a major pathway for human cadmium (Cd) exposure. Understanding Cd behavior in the soil-rice system, especially under field conditions, is pivotal for controlling Cd accumulation. This study analyzed Cd concentrations and isotope compositions (δ 114/110 Cd) in rice plants and surface soil sampled at different times, along with urinary Cd of residents from typical Cd-contaminated paddy fields in Youxian, Hunan, China. Soil water-soluble Cd concentrations varied across sampling times, with δ 114/110 Cd water lighter under drained than flooded conditions, suggesting supplementation of water-soluble Cd by isotopically lighter Cd pools, increasing Cd phytoavailability. Both water-soluble Cd and atmospheric deposition contributed to rice Cd accumulation. Water-soluble Cd's contribution increased from 28-52% under flooded to 58-87% under drained conditions due to increased soil Cd phytoavailability. Atmospheric deposition's contribution (12-72%) increased with potential atmospheric deposition flux among sampling areas. The enrichment of heavy Cd isotopes occurred from root-stem-grain to prevent rice Cd accumulation. The different extent of enrichment of heavy isotopes in urine indicated different Cd exposure sources. Bromophenols (BrPs) are artificial precursors of some flame retardants and important substances with natural marine- or ocean-like flavors. This study studied the temporal variations and spatial distributions of BrPs in 150 mollusk samples (12 species) collected from 9 cities around the Bohai Sea from 2009 to 2019. Only 3 B.P. among the tested 19 congeners, 4-monobromophenol (4-mBrP), 2,4-dibromophenol (2,4-diBrP), and 2,4,6-tribromophenol (2,4,6-triBrP), were extensively detected with the detection frequency of 98.7 %, 86.7 %, and 98.0 %. The median concentration of 2,4,6-triBrP was 4.27 ng/g dw, followed by 4-mBrP (1.89 ng/g dw) and 2,4-diBrP (0.625 ng/g dw). The concentration of 3 detectable congeners, ∑ 3 BrPs' ranged from 0.152 to 703 ng/g dw with a median value of 8.08 ng/g dw. The highest concentrations of ∑ 3 BrPs and 2,4,6-triBrP all occurred in Rapana venosa (49.2 and 45.1 ng/g dw) which belongs to Muricidae (2009 to 2019) that was at a relatively higher trophic level among the tested mollusks. The concentration of BrPs in Gastropoda is much higher than that in Bivalvia. The median concentrations of 2,4-diBrP, 2,4,6-triBrP, and ∑ 3 BrPs in Gastropoda and Bivalvia from Shandong Province were higher than those in other administrative divisions at the provincial level because of the large volume of BrP production and brominated flame retardants. Temporal variations in Gastropoda and Bivalvia from Weihai showed that concentrations of ∑ 3 BrPs, 2,4,6-triBrP, 4-mBrP, and 2,4-diBrP declined slowly from 2009 to 2019. For the most complex artificial chlorinated environmental contaminants, much less is known for medium-chain CPs than short-chain CPs. In this research, the spatial distributions of MCCPs and SCCPs in farmland soil and maize leaves near a CP production facility were found marginally influenced by seasonal winds. The levels of ∑MCCPs and ∑SCCPs were in the ranges of <1.51-188 and 5.41-381 ng/g dw for soils; and 77.6-52930 and 119-61999 ng/g dw for maize leaf, respectively. Bioaccumulation and tissue distributions of the CPs within maize plants were specifically analyzed. Most of the CPs were contained in the tissues directly exposed to airborne CPs. Though the estimated risk of CPs to humans through ingestion of kernels appears to be minimal, the edible safety of MCCPs in maize plants for cattle was nearly in the designated range of adverse effects. To our knowledge, this is the first report on bioaccumulation of CPs in mature maize plants, especially in the parts eaten by humans and domestic animals. It provides a baseline reference to the edible risks of CPs in agricultural food plants and alerts us to the problematic environmental behavior of MCCPs, a probable future replacement for SCCPs commercially.

To follow the revision of the fourth edition of WHO classification and the recent progress on the management of diffuse gliomas, the joint guideline committee of Chinese Glioma Cooperative Group (CGCG), Society for Neuro-Oncology of China (SNO-China) and Chinese Brain Cancer Association (CBCA) updated the clinical practice guideline. It provides recommendations for diagnostic and management decisions, and for limiting unnecessary treatments and cost. The recommendations focus on molecular and pathological diagnostics, and the main treatment modalities of surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. In this guideline, we also integrated the results of some clinical trials of immune therapies and target therapies, which we think are ongoing future directions. The guideline should serve as an application for all professionals involved in the management of patients with adult diffuse glioma and also a source of knowledge for insurance companies and other institutions involved in the cost regulation of cancer care in China and other countries., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier B.V. Glioma, the most common form of primary malignant brain tumors, is graded based solely on histopathological appearance, which has led to prognostic discrepancies. This study aimed to establish a new glioma grading model by analyzing the expression of Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2 (BMP2) mRNA in patients with gliomas as well, named the Histopathological-BMP2 (HB) system. Clinical information was collected from 692 patients from the Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas database. According to pathological glioma subtypes and the expression of BMP2 mRNA in tumor tissues, the new subtypes HBs, HBh, HBm and HB1 were established, with BMP2 expression highest in HBs and lowest in HB1. Survival periods were analyzed. Based on this, the expression of three BMP2 receptors (BMPR1A, BMPR1B, and BMPR2) was also analyzed, which was related to the prognosis of patients. This new classification model was validated in further groups of patients from the CGGA database (n = 291) and the Cancer Genome Atlas (n = 625). A new glioma grade (HB grade) based on histopathology and BMP2 expression can predict the prognosis of glioma patients, with BMPR1B and BMPR2 expression indicating a different prognosis in different types of gliomas. The higher the concentration of BMP2, the better the prognosis of patients.

Candida albicans is the most prevalent opportunistic fungus of humans and animals. While most studies focus on human isolates, they rarely focus on poultry isolates. In this study, C. albicans strains were recovered from poultry in the southern Hebei Province (China) and identified. Molecular typing and analyses were performed to understand the molecular epidemiology and genetic relatedness of the strains. The fungi were isolated from live birds with presumed candidiasis or their corpses. The isolates were identified based on morphology, differential medium culture, and rDNA internal transcribed spacer sequencing. The identified C. albicans strains were analyzed by ABC genotyping and multilocus sequence typing. Clonal groups were identified using the eBURST (version 3.0) software, and an UPGMA phylogenetic tree was constructed using the MEGA (version 6.06) software. Overall, 72 isolates were divided into three genotypes (A, B, and C), 48 novel sequence types (STs), five groups with 10 singletons, and four clades. Results indicated that candidiasis is common in poultry in the southern Hebei Province, and that the genetic composition of the C. albicans poultry population from the area is relatively complicated. Based on the eBURST analysis for the STs in this study and others, we suggest that C. albicans poultry isolates were relatively independent but not completely separated from human isolates. The Chinese Glioma Cooperative Group (CGCG) Guideline Panel for adult diffuse gliomas provided recommendations for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The Panel covered all fields of expertise in neuro-oncology, i.e. neurosurgeons, neurologists, neuropathologists, neuroradiologists, radiation and medical oncologists and clinical trial experts. The task made clearer and more transparent choices about outcomes considered most relevant through searching the references considered most relevant and evaluating their value. The scientific evidence of papers collected from the literature was evaluated and graded based on the Oxford Centre for Evidence-based Medicine Levels of Evidence and recommendations were given accordingly. The recommendations will provide a framework and assurance for the strategy of diagnostic and therapeutic measures to reduce complications from unnecessary treatment and cost. The guideline should serve as an application for all professionals involved in the management of patients with adult diffuse glioma and also as a source of knowledge for insurance companies and other institutions involved in the cost regulation of cancer care in China., (Copyright © 2016 The Authors. The current World Health Organization (WHO) classification of human gliomas is mainly based on morphology. However, it has limitations in prognostic prediction. We examined whether combining isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) 1/2 mutation status with the Ki-67 labeling index would improve the definition of prognostically distinct entities. We investigated the correlation of Ki-67 expression with IDH1/2 mutation status and their impact on clinical outcome in 703 gliomas. Low Ki-67 expression closely overlapped with IDH1/2 mutation in our cohort (P < 0.0001). Patients with IDH1/2 mutation survived significantly longer than patients with wild-type IDH1/2 did (P < 0.0001); higher Ki-67 expression was associated with shorter progression-free survival and overall survival (OS) (P < 0.0001). IDH1/2 combined with Ki-67 was used to re-classify glioma patients into five groups. IDH1/2 mutant patients with low and moderate Ki-67 expression (Group1) had the best prognosis, whereas patients with wild-type IDH1/2 and high Ki-67 expression (Group5) had the worst prognosis (Median OS = 1527 vs. 355 days, P < 0.0001). To summarize, our new classification model distinguishes biologically distinct subgroups and provides prognostic information regardless of the conventional WHO grade. Classification based on IDH1/2 mutation status and Ki-67 expression level could be more convenient for clinical application and guide personalized treatment in malignant gliomas.

Accumulating evidence demonstrates that defining molecular subtypes based on objective genetic alterations may permit a more rational, patient-specific approach to molecular targeted therapy across various cancers. The objective of this study was to subtype primary glioblastoma (pGBM) based on MicroRNA (miRNA) profiling in Chinese population. Here, miRNA expression profiles from 82 pGBM samples were analyzed and 78 independent pGBM samples were used for qRT-PCR validation. We found that two distinct subgroups with different prognosis and chemosensitivities to temozolomide (TMZ) in Chinese pGBM samples. One subtype is TMZ chemoresistant (termed the TCR subtype) and confers a poor prognosis. The other subtype is TMZ-chemosensitive (termed the TCS subtype) and confers a relatively better prognosis compared with the TCR subtype. A classifier consisting of seven miRNAs was then identified (miR-1280, miR-1238, miR-938 and miR-423-5p (overexpressed in the TCR subtype); and let-7i, miR-151-3p and miR-93 (downregulated in the TCR subtype)), which could be used to assign pGBM samples to the corresponding subtype. The classifier was validated using both internal and external samples. Meanwhile, the genetic alterations of the TCR and TCS subtypes were also analyzed. The TCR subtype was characterized by no IDH1 mutation, and EGFR and Ki-67 overexpression. The TCS subtype displayed the opposite situation. Taken together, the results indicate a distinct subgroup with poor prognosis and TMZ-chemoresistance.

Patients with isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1)-mutant glioblastoma exhibit increased survival compared with those with wild-type IDH1 tumors. The magnitude of this finding has led to the use of IDH1 mutations as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers. However, the mechanisms underlying the reported correlation between the IDH1 mutation and increased survival have not been fully revealed. In this work, based on genome-wide transcriptional analyses of 69 Chinese patients with glioblastoma, we have found that the focal adhesion pathway is significantly downregulated in IDH1-mutant glioblastomas. The impaired focal adhesion leads to compromised cell migration and tumor invasion, contributing to the optimistic prognosis of these patients. Moreover, the signature genes of HIF-1α, the downstream factor of mutated IDH1, are found to be suppressed in IDH1-mutant gliomas. Given the role of HIF-1α in cell migration, we conclude that the attenuation of HIF-1α-dependent glioblastoma cell infiltration contributes to the better outcomes of patients with IDH1-mutant gliomas., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. Promoter methylation of O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) gene has been considered as a prognostic maker and increasingly emphasized in the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Contrastingly, the correlation of MGMT with clinical outcomes in Chinese glioblastoma patients has not been elucidated systematically. In the present study, tumor tissues from 172 GBM patients were analyzed for MGMT protein expression by immunohistochemistry. Of these, 79 were also subjected to pyrosequencing for MGMT promoter methylation analysis. MGMT protein overexpression was found in 109/172 (63.4%) GBM samples. And no significant survival difference was observed between the patients with MGMT overexpression and low expression in terms of progression-free survival or overall survival (P = 0.605 and P = 0.565, respectively). Meanwhile, MGMT promoter methylation was detected in 26/79 cases (32.9%), whereas 53/79 (67.1%) samples were unmethylated. Further survival analysis also revealed that MGMT promoter methylation status cannot predict patients progression-free survival and overall survival (P = 0.906 and P = 0.548, respectively). The integrated analysis showed that there was significant negative correlation between MGMT protein expression and promoter methylation (P = 0.004). These results underscore that, in Chinese GBM patients, (a) MGMT protein expression level was not a prognostic factor, (b) overall survival but not progression-free survival showed a trend toward increase in patients with MGMT promoter methylation, although the difference was not significant statistically and this observation has to be validated in larger patients cohort, (c) there was a significant correlation between MGMT protein expression in immunohistochemistry and MGMT promoter methylation by pyrosequencing.

It has been reported that IDH1 (IDH1R132) mutation was a frequent genomic alteration in grade II and grade III glial tumors but rare in primary glioblastoma (pGBM). To elucidate the frequency of IDH1 mutation and its clinical significance in Chinese patients with pGBM, one hundred eighteen pGBMs were assessed by pyro-sequencing for IDH1 mutation status, and the results were correlated with clinical characteristics and molecular pathological factors. IDH1 mutations were detected in 19/118 pGBM cases (16.1%). Younger age, methylated MGMT promoter, high expression of mutant P53 protein, low expression of Ki-67 or EGFR protein were significantly correlated with IDH1 mutation status. Most notably, we identified pGBM cases with IDH1 mutation were mainly involved in the frontal lobe when compared with those with wild-type IDH1. In addition, Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed a highly significant association between IDH1 mutation and a better clinical outcome (p = 0.026 for progression-free survival; p = 0.029 for overall survival). However, in our further multivariable regression analysis, the independent prognostic effect of IDH1 mutation is limited when considering age, preoperative KPS score, extent of resection, TMZ chemotherapy, and Ki-67 protein expression levels, which might narrow its prognostic power in Chinese population in the future.
