The authors report an evaluation of the psychometric properties of a Chinese version of the Volunteer Functions Inventory on a sample of university student volunteers. Reliabilities were high for four out of the six scales of the Inventory (Values, Career, Social, and Understanding) in terms of internal consistency. Items in these four scales also yielded a clean structure in an exploratory factor analysis. Making new friends was found to be a motive, which was separate from sustaining friendships and separate from other motives captured by the Inventory. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the superiority of a 6-factor model over other measurement models such as unitary, bipartite, and second-order factor models. Implications for the measurement of motives in volunteerism in general and refinement of the Inventory in particular, are discussed. (Contains 3 tables.)

Objectives: To describe the characteristics and factors which may influence the maternal outcomes of maternal cardiac arrest (MCA).Design: Retrospective analysis of cases.Setting: China.Population or Sample: A total of 61 MCA patients admitted or transferred to The Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University from January 2000 to December 2019.Methods: Clinical data for MCA were analysed retrospectively. The indicators included maternal age; BMI; gestational age; antenatal examination; income; MCA cause and place; cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); mode of delivery; maternal prognosis; and neonatal outcome.Main Outcome Measures: The impact of case characteristics on maternal prognosis of MCA.Results: The hospital received 61 patients with MCA, 36 of whom died (mortality 59.0%, 95% CI 46.3-71.7%). MCA was predominantly caused by treatable complications. Those who died were more likely to have collapsed in the ICU.Conclusions: Regular antenatal examination and early intervention can reduce the incidence of adverse pregnancy outcomes. The location of MCA occurred may be related to maternal prognosis. One hundred-and-eight accessions of plum and apricot, including seven plum species (Prunus salicina, P. simonii, P. ussuriensis, P. domestica, P. cerasifera, P. nigra and P. spinosa), seven accessions of wild European plum from Xinjiang, two related species (P. armeniaca and P. tomentosa) and eight hybrids between plum and apricot were examined using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Cluster analysis using the unweighted paired group method of arithmetic means (UPGMA) showed four main clusters: a group comprising apricot (P armeniaca) and hybrids between apricot and plum; a Chinese plum-type group; a European plum group (P domestica); and an out- group including P. ussuriensis, P. cerasifera, P. nigra, P. spinosa and P. tomentosa. Data also revealed that P. simonii should be a variant of P. salicina, and P. ussuriensis is an independent species. P. cerasifera and P. spinosa were distinct from the European plum group, disproving the hypothesis that P. domestica originated from natural hybrids of P. cerasifera and P. spinosa.
