A decade ago, an online survey resulted in the "Protecting Cantonese Movement" (PCM) in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China, around which some articles were produced. Based on the bibliometric analysis of data retrieved from the "China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI)," the "Web of Science," and "Google" Scholar keyword searches during 2010 and 2021, this paper reviews the PCM literature to summarize its major features and general trends. It reveals that the published journals or newspaper articles focus on interpretating PCM, analyzing its causes from sociocultural, sociolinguistic, socioeconomic and media environmental perspectives, and proposing countermeasures and suggestions at political, ideological and sociolinguistic environmental levels. It concludes that PCM is of far-reaching significance to the continuous research ranging from Cantonese preserving, promotion of Mandarin, language planning, language policy, and language conflict to language ecology.

Aims: To investigate the experience and support of nurses as second victims in adverse events and explore factors. Background: Adverse events have significant negative influences on healthcare professionals. However, there is still a lack of research on the impacts of individual and event factors. Methods: A cross‐sectional survey via a self‐report electronic questionnaire was sent to approximately 6400 nurses from six tertiary comprehensive hospitals in mainland China. The socio‐demographic, adverse event‐related information and second‐victim experience and support questionnaires were used. Results: Approximately 2897 (45.26%) of nurses were involved in at least one adverse event that mainly caused psychological distress. Male nurses, Grade I adverse events, public reports and discussions of adverse events were related to the second‐victim reaction. Discussing with a respected colleague was the most strongly desired form of support. Conclusions: Chinese nurses have reported a high prevalence of psychological reactions. Follow‐up studies must consider other potential factors. Implications for Nursing Management: Nursing managers should consider the factors that affect second victims and provide support based on the expectations of nurses. Background: To study the competency of general practitioners (GPs) in Shanghai, China on prevention and management of type 2 diabetes, also understand factors that may prohibit it. Methods: A survey questionnaire with 25 questions was designed based on 2013 Chinese Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Guidelines and Chinese Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Guidelines (Grassroots Edition) and conducted among 789 GPs who work at 54 community healthcare centers (CHCs) within 16 districts at Shanghai, China. Excel 2016 and SPSS 24.0 were used for data analysis, and a difference of P < 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: The GPs did poorly on three aspect of diabetes prevention and treatment: (1) treatment goals in elderly patients, (2) screening methods for high-risk population, and (3) aspirin contraindications. The statistical analysis data showed that GPs who finished standardized training had correct answer on 13.58 ± 3.31 questions out of total 25, with mean accuracy rate of 54.32%. Except the questions for high-risk population screening method and the diagnostic criteria for type 2 diabetes, there was no difference in the accuracy of other questions between GPs with or without standardized training (P < 0.05). However, sex, educational level, and subspecialty experience are affective factors on their competency in type 2 diabetes prevention and treatment knowledge. Conclusion: The results indicated that communities should strengthen the training of GPs in diabetes management and bidirectional referral. Frequent continuing education and skills training should be provided among GPs at CHCs to ensure their competency of type 2 diabetes prevention and treatment knowledge after obtaining their GP license disregard of their standardized training. In addition, attention should be paid to GPs who had lower education background or non-clinical subspecialty experience to strengthen their clinical knowledge of type 2 diabetes. Background: Invasive fungal infection (IFI) is one of the most common nosocomial infections. However, data on the epidemiology of IFI and susceptibility to antifungal agents in China are quite limited, and in particular, no current data exist on the microbiological, and clinical characteristics of IFI patients in Northeast China. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to provide a retrospective review of the clinical characteristics, laboratory test results, and risk factor predictions of inpatients diagnosed with IFI. Multivariate regression analysis was used to assess prognostic factors associated with the mortality of these patients. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the results from 509 patients with IFI extracted from the First Hospital of China Medical University from January 2013 to January 2018. Results: Neutrophil numbers, total bilirubin, length of stay in the ICU, renal failure, use of immunosuppressants within the past 30 days, stomach tube placement and septic shock were risk factors for death from IFI. Recent surgery (within 2 weeks) and drainage tube placement did not increase mortality in these IFI patients. Increased serum levels of PCT (AUC 0.601, 95% CI 0.536–0.665, P = 0.003) and CRP (AUC 0.578, 95% CI 0.512–0.644, P = 0.020) provided effective predictors of 30-day mortality rates. Conclusions: We report for the first time epidemiological data on invasive fungal infections in Northeast China over the past 5 years. Despite the limited available clinical data, these findings will greatly aid clinical health care workers with regard to the identification, prevention, and treatment of IFI in hospitalized patients. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the implications of the China’s rising meat demand and industrialization of the livestock sector for the vegetable oil market.Design/methodology/approach An equilibrium displacement model is constructed to analyze the interactions between meat consumption and vegetable oil market through the development of livestock sector modernization. Parameters derived from the 2006 to 2009 data are first used to produce the counterfactual growth rate of the non-soybean vegetable oil to validate the model. Then the authors use the second set of parameters derived from the 2010 to 2013 data to forecast the changes in the vegetable oil market in China.Findings Soybean oil, as a co-product of soybean processing, tends to crowd out other vegetable oils. In particular, the authors find that the market for non-soybean vegetable oils may shrink as long as the rapid industrialization pace above 10 percent within China’s livestock sector continues. Although their production takes up only 8.5 percent of all agricultural lands in China, oil crops remain as important cash crops for farmers contributing over 10 percent to the overall farm income in some provinces. The authors’ analysis suggests that stakeholders in these regions should closely monitor the structural changes within the livestock sector and consider the information for crop selection.Originality/value The authors’ analysis contributes to the literature on China’s meat demand by highlighting its implications for other agricultural markets involved in the food system. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is characterized by anger rumination and expression, and these features are associated with Behavioral Inhibition and Activation Systems (BIS/BAS). This longitudinal study investigates the role of effective and ineffective coping strategies in mediating the association between BIS/BAS and anger rumination/expression in patients with BPD. This longitudinal study was performed on outpatients with BPD referring to two clinical and research centers in China from June 2019 to June 2021. A total of 340 patients with BPD were included in this study. Participants were investigated with BIS/BAS and Brief COPE at baseline and with anger rumination/expression questionnaire at a one-year follow-up session. Our findings demonstrated a significant indirect effect of BAS-Reward and BAS-Drive through problem-based coping skills on anger expression one year later. Besides, we found a significant indirect effect of BIS through avoidant coping skills on anger rumination one year later. Nonetheless, we failed to show a significant mediatory role for emotion-based coping skills. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has an increasing incidence worldwide, and the global 5-year survival rate ranges from 5–30%. In China, HCC seriously threatens the nation's health; the incidence of HCC ranks fourth among all theriomas, and the mortality rate is the third highest worldwide. The main therapies for HCC are surgical treatment or liver transplantation; however, most patients with HCC will experience postoperative recurrence or metastasis, eventually resulting in mortality. As for advanced or unresectable HCC, the current appropriate treatment strategy is transarterial chemoembolization; however, limited therapeutic effect and natural or acquired drug resistance affect the efficacy of this approach. Previous studies have demonstrated that PD-L1 expression on host cells and myeloid cells plays an important role in PD-L1 blocked-mediated tumor regression. Thus, further research on programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) and programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) is required. Countries including the United States, France, Britain and China have developed PD-1/PD-L1 blockers, including nivolumab, pembrolizumab, cemiplimab, atezolizumab, avelumab, durvalumab, toripalimab, sintilimab and camrelizumab. Notably, all of these blockers have therapeutic effect and influencing factors in HCC. Factors that influence the clinical outcome of PD-1 have also been discovered, such as inflammatory genes, specific receptors and signaling pathways. The discovery of these factors will help to identify novel methods, such as combination treatment, to decrease the influence of other factors on the efficacy of PD-1/PD-L1. Sorafenib and lenvatinib have been approved for first-line treatment for patients with advanced HCC. When first-line treatment frequently fails, pembrolizumab and ipilimumab plus nivolumab are used following sorafenib (but not lenvatinib) treatment in advanced HCC. Thus, tumor immunotherapy using PD-1/PD-L1 blockers exhibits promising outcomes for the treatment of HCC, and more novel PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors are being developed to fight against this disease. The present review discusses the clinical results and influencing factors of PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors in HCC to provide insight into the development and optimization of PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors in the treatment of HCC. Based on the current situation of China's manufacturing export, this paper discusses the deficiencies of China's current trade environment and its impact on the Marine ecological environment from the perspectives of policy norms, export structure, technology and concepts. The results show that China is at the low end of the global value chain, the role of processing and manufacturing makes China bear more pollution while becoming a manufacturing power, and taking labor-intensive and resource-intensive industries as China's comparative advantages to participate in the international division of labor will have a negative impact on China's Marine ecological environment. Ramie root is an underutilized starch source. In this study, eight ramie varieties were investigated for starch properties. Starch content ranged from 18.6% to 50.1% in dry root. Starches from different varieties showed similar morphology including ellipsoidal, spherical and truncated granules with size D[4,3] from 10.1 to 14.1 μm. Starch had amylose content from 20.8% to 28.5%. All ramie varieties had B-type starches with relative crystallinity from 24.8% to 27.1%, ordered degree from 0.724 to 0.897 and lamellar thickness from 9.1 to 9.6 nm. Starches had gelatinization peak temperature from 70.5 to 73.8 °C and enthalpy from 14.9 to 15.8 J/g. Starches had swelling power and water solubility from 27.9 to 31.9 g/g and from 11.7% to 15.5%, respectively, at 95 °C, and exhibited different pasting properties with breakdown viscosity from 36 to 377 mPa s and setback viscosities from 1295 to 1863 mPa s. Starch pastes exhibited pseudoplastic behavior and different rheological properties. Native, gelatinized and retrograded starches had resistant starch from 81.7% to 83.9%, from 1.7% to 5.1% and from 5.6% to 13.3%, respectively. The eight varieties were divided into 3 groups according to starch properties. Human enteroviruses are highly prevalent world-wide. Up to more than 100 subtypes of enteroviruses can cause several diseases, including encephalitis, meningitis, myocarditis, hand-foot-mouth disease, conjunctivitis, respiratory diseases, and gastrointestinal diseases, thus posing a great threat to human health. This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of enterovirus in children in Hangzhou, China before and after the COVID-19 outbreak. Systematic monitoring of enterovirus infections was performed by collecting samples from the children admitted to the inpatient wards and outpatient departments in the Children's Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, between January 2019 and May 2023. A commercial real-time RT PCR kit was utilized to detect enteroviruses. Among the 34,152 samples collected, 1162 samples, accounting for 3.4% of the samples, were tested positive for enteroviruses. The annual positive rates of the enteroviruses were 5.46%, 1.15%, 4.43%, 1.62%, and 1.96% in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and May 2023, respectively. The positivity rate of the enteroviruses was highest among children aged 3-5 years and 5-7 years. Moreover, the monthly positivity rate of enterovirus infection ranged from 0.32% to 10.38%, with a peak in June and July. Serotypes, especially EV71 and CA16, causing severe symptoms such as HFMD, were decreasing, while the proportion of unidentified serotypes was on the rise. Background: Pseudomonas juntendi is a newly identified opportunistic pathogen, of which we have limited understanding. P. juntendi strains are often multidrug resistant, which complicates clinical management of infection., Methods: A strain of Pseudomonas juntendi (strain L4326) isolated from feces was characterized by MALDI-TOF-MS and Average Nucleotide Identity BLAST. This strain was further subject to whole-genome sequencing and Maximum Likelihood phylogenetic analysis. The strain was phenotypically characterized by antimicrobial susceptibility testing and conjugation assays., Results: We have isolated the novel P. juntendi strain L4236, which was multidrug resistant, but retained sensitivity to amikacin. L4236 harbored a megaplasmid that encoded bla OXA-1 and a novel bla IMP-1 resistance gene variant. P. juntendi strain L4236 was phylogenetically related to P. juntendi strain SAMN30525517., Conclusion: A rare P. juntendi strain was isolated from human feces in southern China with a megaplasmid coharboring bla IMP-1-like and bla OXA-1 . Objective: To investigate BRCA1 / 2 gene mutations and their relationship with clinicopathological features in patients with breast cancer in Zhoushan Islands., Methods: High-throughput whole-exome gene sequencing was used to detect BRCA1 / 2 mutations in 776 breast cancer patients in Zhoushan Islands., Results: The BRCA1 / 2 mutation rate of breast cancer patients in Zhoushan Islands was 4.38% (34/776). BRCA1 mutations were significantly correlated with age, molecular type, and family history of breast and ovarian cancers. BRCA2 mutations were most commonly found in invasive lobular carcinoma. Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the level of practice of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) maintenance among nurses in Guizhou province, China, and to explore its influencing factors., Design: Cross-sectional study., Setting: 11 tertiary and 26 secondary hospitals of Guizhou province, China., Participants: A total of 832 nurses engaged in clinical work of PICC maintenance participated in the present study., Primary Outcome Measures: PICC maintenance knowledge questionnaire, PICC maintenance attitude questionnaire and PICC maintenance practice questionnaire were administrated online for measuring participants' knowledge, attitude and practice of PICC maintenance, respectively., Results: The mean score of nurses' practice of PICC maintenance was 79.77±12.13 and 60.8% of participants reported acceptable practices of PICC maintenance. The availability of PICC guidelines (β=0.10, p=0.002), previous training on PICC maintenance (β=0.18, p<0.001) and attitudes toward PICC maintenance (β=0.48, p<0.001) were significant factors predicting nurses' practices of PICC maintenance. These factors account for 33% of the variance in the practice of PICC maintenance., Conclusion: Nurses' practice of PICC maintenance in Guizhou province was unsatisfactory. Their practice was influenced by the availability of PICC guidelines, whether or not they received training and their attitudes toward PICC maintenance. Background: There is a wide variety of preventive methods currently available for the treatment of exposure keratopathy. Because of a lack of evidence from head-to-head randomized controlled trials (RCTs), the relative effects of these preventive methods in exposure keratopathy patients remain unclear. The purpose of our study is to carry out a network meta-analysis comparing the efficacy of different methods for the prevention of exposure keratopathy and rank these nursing methods for practical consideration., Methods: A literature search was performed of the MEDLINE (PubMed), EMBASE, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure Library (CNKI), China Science and Technology Journal Database (Weipu), WanFang Database and China Biology Medicine disc. Two authors independently extracted data from each included RCTs according to a predesigned Excel spreadsheet and assessed the methodological quality of included RCTs using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Data was analyzed using the R (V.3.6.2) and the Stata (V.15.0)., Results: 21 RCTs involving 2022 patients and evaluating 11 preventive methods were included. Rankings based on posterior probabilities revealed that artificial tear ointment might be the best way to prevent exposure keratopathy (35%), polyethylene covers might be the second-best (31%), swimming goggles might be the third-best (21%), foam dressing might be the fourth-best (18%)., Conclusions: This network meta-analysis indicated that artificial tear ointment, polyethylene covers, swimming goggles and foam dressing might be selected for the prevention of exposure keratopathy in intensive care unit patients, which is important in future research. Background: Both triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are linked to insulin resistance (IR). Prospective studies linking TyG-BMI to NAFLD have been limited by short follow-up. This study investigated the longitudinal association between TyG-BMI and NAFLD occurrence in the non-obese Chinese individuals., Methods: This study determined TyG-BMI at baseline and the incidence of NAFLD at follow-up and performed a post hoc analysis of a prospective cohort study that involved assessing the risk of NAFLD in non-obese Chinese residents from January 2010 to December 2014. The incidence of NAFLD during the 5-year follow-up was identified as the endpoint. Cox proportional hazards regression analysis was used to evaluate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) for the incidence of NAFLD. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was conducted to estimate the predictive power of TyG-BMI and its components for NAFLD. Subgroup analysis was performed to better understand other factors that may affect the association between TyG-BMI and NAFLD to identify potential special populations., Results: During the follow-up period, 841 (8.61%) of 9767 non-obese subjects who met the screening criteria were diagnosed with NAFLD. After confounding factors were fully adjusted for, the HR of NAFLD was 3.09 (95% CI 2.63-3.63) per standard deviation (SD) increase in TyG-BMI. Furthermore, TyG-BMI had a strong predictive value (area under ROC = 0.85; 95% CI 0.84-0.86) for the incidence of NAFLD, with a specificity of 0.73 and sensitivity of 0.82. Additionally, in the male population, each SD increase in TyG-BMI was linked to an increased risk of NAFLD (HR = 2.85, 95% CI 2.30-3.53), but the risk was higher in the female population (HR = 3.58, 95% CI 2.80-4.60). Gender and TyG-BMI interacted significantly with NAFLD incidence (P < 0.0001)., Conclusion: In the normolipidaemic and non-obese subset of the Chinese population, an increase in TyG-BMI is related to an increased incidence of NAFLD. TyG-BMI may have clinical significance in identifying groups at high risk of NAFLD.

To investigate the relationship between serum lipoprotein (a) (LP(a)) levels and breast cancer as well as the clinicopathologic characteristics of breast cancer in a Han Chinese population.This study included 314 breast cancer patients, 51 patients with benign breast tumors, and 185 healthy control subjects. All study subjects were Han Chinese with similar socio-economic backgrounds, who were local residents of Zhoushan, Zhejiang, China or who had lived in Zhoushan for a long period of time. Serum concentrations of LP(a) were determined using a latex-enhanced immunoturbidimetric assay. Clinicopathological characteristics of patients were retrieved from medical records, which included the histopathological type, grade, stage, and molecular subtype of the disease, the expression of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), HER2, and Ki67, and the level of reproductive hormones. Correlations between 2 groups were evaluated using the Spearman correlation analysis. Associations among ≥3 groups were interpreted using the Kruskal-Wallis H test or the logistic regression test.Elevated serum LP(a) levels were detected in breast cancer patients compared with healthy control subjects, but no significant differences in LP(a) were detected between breast cancer and benign tumor or between benign tumor and healthy control. In breast cancer patients, serum LP(a) levels were inversely associated with HER2 expression, but they were not significantly correlated with any other clinicopathologic characteristics of breast cancer evaluated in this study.Elevated serum LP(a) levels were associated with breast cancer in a Han Chinese population.

Diversity and complexity of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) may be related to clinical outcome, disease prognosis, and response to antiviral treatment in infected patients. HBV has been classified into ten genotypes (A-I) and over 50 subgenotypes. However, there are still some variants of HBV that need to be classified. Here, we investigated genotypic profiles of HBV among 150 patients with chronic hepatitis B in Yunnan, China, and characterized a novel HBV subgenotype B10. Multiple subgenotypes were identified in 146 subjects with successful sequencing for the S gene, including genotype B2 (48.6%, 71/146), C1 (34.2%, 50/146), B4 (8.9%, 13/146), C2 (0.7%, 1/146), C5 (0.7%, 1/146) and an unclassified group (6.8%,10/146). To characterize the unclassified group, seven HBV complete genomes were successfully amplified and analyzed. The seven strains constituted a potentially novel B subgenotype that we designated as B10 based on the characteristics of a monophyletic cluster, > 4% genetic distances, no significant evidence of recombination, and no epidemiologic link among individuals. Moreover, Bayesian analyses showed that HBV B10 originated around the B·C 1.80 thousand years old, suggesting a much ancient HBV strain. Human infections with avian influenza H7N9 or H10N8 viruses have been reported in China, raising concerns that they might cause human epidemics and pandemics. However, how these viruses adapt to mammalian hosts is unclear. Here we show that besides the commonly recognized viral polymerase subunit PB2 residue 627 K, other residues including 87E, 292 V, 340 K, 588 V, 648 V, and 676 M in PB2 also play critical roles in mammalian adaptation of the H10N8 virus. The avian-origin H10N8, H7N9, and H9N2 viruses harboring PB2-588 V exhibited higher polymerase activity, more efficient replication in mammalian and avian cells, and higher virulence in mice when compared to viruses with PB2-588 A. Analyses of available PB2 sequences showed that the proportion of avian H9N2 or human H7N9 influenza isolates bearing PB2-588 V has increased significantly since 2013. Taken together, our results suggest that the substitution PB2-A588V may be a new strategy for an avian influenza virus to adapt mammalian hosts.
