Writing is one of productive skills and a way of conveying information considered to be the most complex and the most challenging skill for EFL English learners to acquire, hence many studies have been conducted on the revelation of the characteristic of writings of EFL learners and how to improve them. Among them, pronoun study has attracted extensive interest and become a hot spot in the second language acquisition and contrastive linguistics. Taking a series of compositions of "The most unforgettable person I ever know" as subject, this study is devoted to reveal the characteristics of "who and its concordance" in Chinese college students` English narrative writing from the perspective of corpus-based method. Result of contrastive analysis of writing from 630 college students of 3 colleges in the past 6 years shows: 1) As a whole, WIC can be regarded as common words for Chinese college students but the distribution of individual word is relatively disproportionate-"who" attracts far more attention while the other 4 words attract little or no attention. 2) In terms of sentence type, the distribution of the 5 types is imbalance with too little use of adverbial clause and too much of attributive clauses. In addition, the learners are used to utilizing simple and identical sentence structure and some of them are highly repetitive. 3) The use frequency of WIC of individual student shows that the majority numbers of learners have formed the habit of using them to depict interpersonal relationship and their distribution is unbalanced too. 4) As to the clusters, the learners have formed the habit of preference use of "who" as a relative pronoun above all. And some clusters are highly identical and simple. 5) To sum up, the majority of learners in this study can employ WIC consciously in their writing, but their usages are confined to simple words and structures. Therefore, the learner`s comprehensive competence of integrated employment of WIC should be improved.

Situational Teaching plays a crucial role in English classroom teaching in Chinese Primary Schools; hence the relevant research prospers simultaneously. This study is devoted to reveal the research characteristic on English Situational Teaching in Primary Schools in the past 6 years. Result of contrastive analysis and survey of the essays published on CNKI Journals and Theses from year 2014 to 2019 reveals: 1) In terms of the whole field, it develops steadily in spite of lack of wide coverage and depth. 2) In regarding to the research content in whole, it is relatively disproportionate, identical and superficial with too much perceptual thinking and the micro aspect of specific application and promotion but far less scientific, empirical and experimental research. Moreover, there are too many nonstandard essays and few outstanding ones. 3) As to the research method, the distribution of the employment of the 3 methods is imbalance with too little use of the experimental and quantitative ones. Furthermore, the journal authors are unskilled in employment of multiple methods. 4) With respect to the research team, it is unstable, low productive and too centralized with primary school teachers.

Background: Unsafe sex is recognized as an important risk factor for cervical cancer (CC). Understanding the global disease burden of CC attributable to unsafe sex can assist policymakers in allocating healthcare resources. Methods: Data were obtained from the 2019 global burden of disease database (GBD). We examined global, regional, and national levels of CC mortality, disability‐adjusted life years (DALYs), and age‐standardized rates (ASRs) caused by unsafe sex. ASRs were evaluated using estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs). Results: Attributable to unsafe sex, there were 280,479 CC‐related deaths in 2019 and 8,955,013 CC‐related DALYs. In the period 1990–2019, the global ASRs of CC due to unsafe sex decreased around the world; for age‐standardized mortality rate (ASMR) and age‐standardized DALY rate (ASDR), the EAPCs were −0.93 and −0.95. The highest ASMRs and ASDRs were found in central sub‐Saharan Africa and the lowest in Australasia. Conclusion: In the past few decades, the ASMR and ASDR of CC caused by unsafe sexual practices have decreased over time, with significant variations observed among different countries and regions. Peers are important socializers of adolescent prosocial behavior. Still, the proximal cognitive and emotional process underlying this link and the sources of individual differences in sensitivity to peer influence have yet to be explored. Utilizing the gene–gene–environment (G × G × E) approach and multi-informant measurement, this study investigated how peer relationships operate to influence adolescent prosocial behavior by examining the mediating role of cognitive and emotional empathy, and the moderating role of the OXTR and DRD2 genes. The study utilized longitudinal data from a community sample of Chinese adolescents (N = 1080, Mage = 13.32 years at T1). Results showed that cognitive empathy rather than emotional empathy mediated the link between peer acceptance/rejection and prosocial behavior. Furthermore, the association among peer acceptance, cognitive empathy, and prosocial behavior was moderated by OXTR and DRD2. Specifically, adolescents with the combinations of AA/AA or G/G genotypes of OXTR/DRD2 benefited more from peer acceptance compared to their counterparts carrying other combined genotypes. The findings highlight cognitive empathy as a proximal process linking peer interaction to prosocial behavior and lend support to the interaction between oxytocinergic and dopaminergic systems on environmental sensitivity. Estimating the densification efficiency of soil fillers is the main topic in dynamic compaction (DC). However, existing methods fail to assess the different contributions between tamper weight (M) and drop distance (H). In this study, a DC laboratory setup was developed to allow such different contributions to be analyzed. A series of DC tests were conducted on a red clay from China with six combinations of tamper weight and drop distance and twenty multiple blows in each combination. The soil responses including crater depth, plastic deformation, impact stress, and inside stress spectrum were recorded. It was observed that with the same tamping energy and momentum, a heavier tamper with a lower drop distance enabled a deeper crater depth and larger plastic deformation. Further examination showed that a heavier tamper caused impact stress with a longer period, increasing the stress wavelength and propagation ability. Therefore, a larger soil body was involved in the compaction process. Additionally, with the same value of MH0.3, different combinations of tamper weight and drop distance shared similar impact stress and soil responses, which is recommended as the new index to estimate the DC densification efficiency for the studied red clay. Psychological repurcussions of COVID-19 pandemic has received wide attention, but there's limited attention paid to psychological recovery afterwards. This study focuses on the changes and predictive factors of mental health of Chinese university students post-pandemic. This study included 1175 Chinese undergraduate students sampled in May 2022 and May–June 2023, right before and after peaks of infections following the end of lockdown policy in China. The participants completed a survey of demographic variables, and three questionnaires: 12-item General Health Questionnaire, Positive Psychological Capital Questionnaire, and Prosocial Tendencies Measure. The participants sampled in 2023 have significant lower GHQ scores and higher PPQ scores than those sampled in 2022, while there is no significant difference in PTM scores between them. The proportion of participants with GHQ-12 scores exceeding 12 in 2023 showed slightly decrease compared to that in 2022. The infection of significant others, the sense of hope, and PPQ self-efficiency, hope and optimism subscale scores were significantly associated with GHQ-12 scores in 2023, but actual infection or quarantine experience were not. The mental health and psychological capital of the university students have been significantly improved within a year. It is worthy to pay attention to the infection of significant others, the sense of hope, and psychological capital in a pandemic to improve the mental health of university students. The shear strength (particularly soil cohesion) of rooted soil is an important parameter that reflects the true erodibility of meadows, particularly in meadows experiencing different degrees of degradation, ranging from undegraded (UD) through to lightly degraded (LD) and from moderately degraded (MD) to heavily degraded (HD). The cohesion of rooted soil is controlled not only by the soil moisture content and its natural density, but also by roots (including not only their density, spatial distribution, and diameters, but also their tensile strength). This study aimed to improve the current understanding of the erosion resistance of rooted soil and elucidate the impact of meadow degradation on the physical–mechanical indices of rooted soil. Based on this discussion, a one-way analysis of variance was performed at significance levels of 0.05 and 0.01 to test the impact of degradation on the physical–mechanical indices of rooted soil across degradation. Furthermore, the probabilistic distributions of the physical–mechanical indices were described using normal, gamma, Weibull, and generalized extreme values (GEV). The Kolmogorov–Smirnov (KS) test was used to identify the optimal distribution based on p-values and the Pearson correlation coefficient was used to quantify the correlation between the cohesion of rooted soil and other indices. The one-way ANOVA indicated that the soil's natural density and soil moisture content decreased firstly, followed by an increase, the root amount and cohesion decreased, the root content experienced an initial increasing and then decreasing trend, and the internal friction angle exhibited a stepwise increasing trend. The four distributions sufficiently described the actual distribution of data on the physical–mechanical indices of rooted soil, except for the internal friction angle in UD and MD soils and the soil moisture content in MD soil. Additionally, the KS tests showed that the optimal distribution depended on both the physical–mechanical indices themselves and the degree of degradation. The Pearson correlation analysis showed that the correlation between cohesion and the other physical–mechanical indices varied considerably depending on the degree of degradation. Aim: To determine the associations between the Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI) and the risks of all‐cause and cause‐specific mortality. Materials and Methods: A total of 3 916 214 Chinese adults were enrolled in a nationwide population cohort covering all 31 provinces of mainland China. The CVAI was calculated based on age, body mass index, waist circumference, and triglyceride and high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations. We used a Cox proportional hazards regression model to determine the hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for risk of mortality associated with different CVAI levels. Results: The median follow‐up duration was 3.8 years. A total of 86 158 deaths (34 867 cardiovascular disease [CVD] deaths, 29 884 cancer deaths, and 21 407 deaths due to other causes) were identified. In general, after adjusting for potential confounding factors, a U‐shaped relationship between CVAI and all‐cause mortality was observed by restricted cubic spline (RCS). Compared with participants in CVAI quartile 1, those in CVAI quartile 4 had a 23.0% (95% CI 20.0%–25.0%) lower risk of cancer death, but a 23.0% (95% CI 19.0–27.0) higher risk of CVD death. In subgroup analysis, a J‐shaped and inverted U‐shaped relationship for all‐cause mortality and cancer mortality was observed in the group aged < 60 years. Conclusions: The CVAI, an accessible indicator reflecting visceral obesity among Chinese adults, has predictive value for all‐cause, CVD, and cancer mortality risks. Microplastics are widely found in rivers and their sediments, which will cause harm to the water ecological environment. The Wei River is a first-class tributary of the Yellow River, the fifth largest river in the world, and has vulnerable ecological environment and most sediment in the world. However, understanding how anthropogenic activities and environmental factors affect the microplastics distribution in this river is not clear. Based on this, the spatiotemporal distribution of microplastics in the Wei River were investigated. The abundance of microplastics ranged from 1033 to 8333 items/m3 and from 120 to 840 items/kg in the water and in the sediment, respectively. Fibers and fragments were the main shapes of Wei River, microplastics less than 500 μm were the main sizes, and black and white/transparent were the main colors. In Wei River, the abundance of microplastics in urban areas was higher than that in agricultural areas and mountainous areas. Furthermore, the correlation analysis revealed that microplastic abundance in the water was related to anthropogenic activities (population density, per capita GDP and distance) and environmental factors (water temperature, NH3-N, ORP), while in the sediments was correlated with anthropogenic activities (per capita GDP) and environmental factors (water temperature and NH3-N). This study reveals new patterns in microplastic pollution in the Wei River, underscoring the need for targeted environmental strategies. Our findings provide novel insights into the characteristics and distribution of microplastics, significantly adding to the current understanding of riverine microplastic pollution. Introduction: Healthcare utilization often favors the higher-socioeconomic status (SES) and having chronic diseases may exacerbate this inequality. This study aims to examine the trends in health service use over time, the effect of SES on healthcare utilization, and the role of chronic diseases in this association. Methods: Data used in this study were from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2018, which is the first nationally representative survey of the middle-aged and older. The sample included people aged 45 years and older who responded to all the waves. A total of 10,922 adults were included in this study. Healthcare utilization was categorized into outpatient and inpatient service use and SES was measured by per-capita household expenditure. A multilevel zero-inflated negative binomial regression model was performed to analyze outpatient and inpatient service use, separately. Results: The rates of outpatient service use in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2018 were 19.11%, 21.45%, 20.12%, and 16.32%, respectively, while the rates of inpatient service use were 8.40%, 13.04%, 14.17%, and 18.79%, respectively. Compared to individuals in the lowest quintile of per-capita household expenditure, those in higher quintiles had higher odds of outpatient service use (Q2: odds ratio = 1.233, p < 0.0001; Q3: 1.416, p < 0.0001; Q4: 1.408, p < 0.0001; or Q5: 1.439, p < 0.0001) and higher rates of inpatient service use (Q2: incidence rate ratio = 1.273, p < 0.0001; Q3: 1.773, p < 0.0001; Q4: 2.071, p < 0.0001; or Q5: 1.992, p < 0.0001). Additionally, having morbidity generally increased healthcare utilization, but did not play a significant role in moderating the relationship between SES and healthcare utilization. Conclusions: Healthcare utilization rates were overall low in China, but relatively high for people in higher quintiles of per-capita household expenditure or those with morbidity, compared to their counterparts. Policy actions are required to provide more health education to the public, to further optimize health insurance schemes targeting outpatient services, especially for the low-SES, and to establish new health delivery models for NCD management in the primary health care setting. To evaluate the value of nanopore targeted sequencing in diagnosing pneumonia pathogens. This large-scale multicentre prospective study performed in 8 hospitals across China from April to October 2022. Hospitalised patients with a diagnosis of pneumonia at admission were included. Complete clinical data were collected, and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid were obtained from each patient. These samples underwent simultaneous testing using conventional microbial testing, metagenomic next-generation sequencing, and nanopore targeted sequencing. A total of 218 patients were included. Among the 168 cases of pulmonary infection, 246 strains of pathogens were confirmed. Nanopore targeted sequencing outperformed conventional microbial testing, identifying more pathogens with a sensitivity increase of 47.9% (77.2% vs. 29.3%). Metagenomic next-generation sequencing had a sensitivity of 82.9%. Total of 70.1% patients had consistent results in both metagenomic next-generation sequencing and nanopore targeted sequencing. Nanopore targeted sequencing exhibited significantly higher sensitivity in detecting Pneumocystis jiroveci, cytomegalovirus, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Nontuberculous mycobacteria, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae compared to conventional microbial testing. However, metagenomic next-generation sequencing demonstrated higher sensitivity than nanopore targeted sequencing for Aspergillus (88.5% vs. 53.8%). Regarding the detection of co-infections, nanopore targeted sequencing displayed significantly higher sensitivity than conventional microbial testing (76.7% vs. 28.7%) and was on par with metagenomic next-generation sequencing (76.7% vs. 82.9%). Nanopore targeted sequencing performs equally well as metagenomic next-generation sequencing in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid for pathogen diagnosis in pneumonia, both methods showing higher sensitivity than conventional microbial testing. In 2021, China's entertainment industry experienced a series of unusual argumentative controversies followed by the creation of the Qing Lang movement initiated by the Chinese government that called for tackling irregularities in the industry. With strong support from the Chinese public, the Qing Lang movement presents an intriguing case to examine a new model of social argument representing both the public and state interest in resolving social problems in the Chinese version of the public sphere. The paper identifies key characteristics defining a reciprocal model of social activism in state-sponsored actions in China exemplified by the Qing Lang movement. The paper also argues for the value of a culture-specific approach to understanding public sphere and social activism and clarifies the function of argument in Chinese society. We present the first systematic approach to detect fake transactions on cryptocurrency exchanges by exploiting robust statistical and behavioral regularities associated with authentic trading. Our sample consists of 29 centralized exchanges, among which the regulated ones feature transaction patterns consistently observed in financial markets and nature. In contrast, unregulated exchanges display abnormal first significant digit distributions, size rounding, and transaction tail distributions, indicating widespread manipulation unlikely driven by a specific trading strategy or exchange heterogeneity. We then quantify the wash trading on each unregulated exchange, which averaged more than 70% of the reported volume. We further document how these fabricated volumes (trillions of dollars annually) improve exchange ranking, temporarily distort prices, and relate to exchange characteristics (e.g., age and user base), market conditions, and regulation. Overall, our study cautions against potential market manipulations on centralized crypto exchanges with concentrated power and limited disclosure requirements and highlights the importance of fintech regulation. Export tax rebate (ETR) and inwards foreign direct investment (IFDI) are important driving forces for the steady development of China's export-oriented economy. Based on data from 2004 to 2019, this study puts forward relevant assumptions on constructing a model for empirically analyzing the impact of the ETR on China's IFDI from the perspective of the national and the sub-national. The result demonstrates that there exists a complementary relationship between the ETR and IFDI; the weak lag effect of ETR on IFDI in the eastern, middle, and western regions of China; an explicit impact on the performance in the western region, which lags behind only one period; and no significant lag effect of ETR on IFDI in developed, moderately developed, and underdeveloped regions. On the basis of this evaluation, the conclusion could be achieved that that ETR has a significant effect on IFDI, though there may be differences in the direction and value of the impact. The highlight of this research is to detect the impact of ETR on IFDI by taking China as a case, and achieved that there exist sub-national differences, including the geographical and development-level differences. Plain Language Summary: Export Tax Rebate on IFDI The purpose of this article was to detect the impact of export tax rebates (ETR) on China's Inwards Foreign Direct Investment (IFDI) by considering various types of regional differences. The main methods was to establish econometric model considering of time lag effect and control variable and bring relevant hypothesis, then made panel data model to reveal the impact from perspectives of different regions. The conclusion was that the impact of the ETR on the IFDI generally demonstrated differences in complementarity, lag, and geographical and development levels. The implications was that China should implement different regional ETR policy for achieving larger effect on IFDI. The limitations could be detected from two aspects, which was whether an ETR that lags behind to be adopted being debatable and the adoption of enterprise microdata could effectively examine the impact of ETR on IFDI respectively. Background: An increase in healthcare utilization in response to universal health coverage may leave massive economic burden on individuals and households. Identifying catastrophic health expenditure helps us understand such burden. This study aims to examine the incidence of catastrophic health expenditure at various thresholds, explore its trend over years, and investigate whether it varies across socioeconomic status (SES). Methods: Data used in this study were from four waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS): 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2018. SES was measured by annual per-capita household expenditure, which was then divided into quintiles (Quintile 1 (Q1): the poorest - Quintile 5 (Q5): the wealthiest). Catastrophic health expenditure was measured at both a fixed threshold (40%) and a set of variable thresholds, where the thresholds for other quintiles were estimated by multiplying 40% by the ratio of average food expenditure in certain quintile to that in the index quintile. Multilevel mixed-effects logistic regression models were used to analyze the determinants of catastrophic health expenditure at various thresholds. Results: A total of 6,953 households were included in our study. The incidence of catastrophic health expenditure varied across the thresholds set. At a fixed threshold, 10.90%, 9.46%, 13.23%, or 24.75% of households incurred catastrophic health expenditure in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2018, respectively, which were generally lower than those at variable thresholds. Catastrophic health expenditure often decreased from 2011 to 2013, and an increasing trend occurred afterwards. Compared to households in Q5, those in lower quintiles were more likely to suffer catastrophic health expenditure, irrespective of the thresholds set. Similarly, having chronic diseases and healthcare utilization increased the odds of catastrophic health expenditure. Conclusions: The financial protection against catastrophic health expenditure shocks remains a challenge in China, especially for the low-SES and those with chronic diseases. Concerted efforts are needed to further expand health insurance coverage across breadth, depth, and height, optimize health financing mechanism, redesign cost-sharing arrangements and provider payment methods, and develop more efficient expenditure control strategies. Infective endocarditis (IE) is a rare disease but with high associated mortality. Currently, the mainstays of diagnosis are still echocardiography and blood cultures. Here, we reported a case of infective endocarditis with negative blood cultures, and blood and aortic valve tissue metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) results suggested Bartonella henselae. In addition, we obtained the whole genomic sequence of B. henselae ZJBH strain. To our knowledge, this is the first report of B. henselae genomic analysis isolated from clinic in China. Furthermore, we described the whole genome sequencing (WGS) data incorporating all B. henselae from diverse sources worldwide and shed light on underlying risk of B. henselae transmitted between cats and humans. Benzene is widely used in chemical industries and has a high potential to cause damage. The release of benzene from storage tanks can generate threats to workers, facilities, and the environment. The effects and consequences of benzene release from a storage tank during the dry and rainy seasons were investigated with the Areal Locations of Hazardous Atmospheres (ALOHA) software program. Risk distributions were obtained through threat zones classified by red, orange, and yellow colors. The results showed that the maximum hazard areas related to benzene vapor cloud and flammability in rainy seasons were greater than those in the dry seasons. There was no significant difference in the consequences of the thermal radiation from pool fire and the Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion (BLEVE) scenario in both the rainy and dry seasons. The maximum threat zones were determined to be 2200 and 305 m for the toxic benzene vapor cloud and the flammable area, respectively. The consequences of the pool fire and BLEVE scenario of benzene were at a distance of 101 and 3600 m from the storage tank, respectively. Based on the basic nonlinear parameter system of the solid oxide electrolysis cell, the data-driven method was used for system identification. The basic model of the solid oxide electrolysis cell was accomplished in Simulink and experiments were performed under a diversified input/output operating environment. The experimental results of the solid oxide electrolysis cell basic parameter system generated 15 datasets. The system identification process involved the utilization of these datasets with the application of nonlinear autoregressive-exogenous models. Initially, data identification came from the Matlab mechanism model. Then, the nonlinear autoregressive-exogenous structures were estimated and selected exploratively through an individual operating condition. In terms of fitness, we conclude that the solid oxide electrolysis cell parameter system cannot be satisfied by a solitary autoregressive-exogenous model for all datasets. Nevertheless, the nonlinear autoregressive-exogenous model utilized S-type nonlinearities to fit a total of 2 validation datasets and 15 estimated datasets. The obtained results were compared with the basic parameter system of a solid oxide electrolysis cell, and the nonlinear autoregressive-exogenous projected output demonstrated an accuracy of over 93% across diverse operational circumstances—regardless of whether there was noise interference. To improve the understanding of the virome and bacterial microbiome in the wildlife rescue station of Poyang Lake, China. Ten smear samples were collected in March 2019 Metagenomic sequencing was performed to delineate bacterial and viral diversity. Taxonomic analysis was performed using the Kraken2 and Bracken methods. A maximum-likelihood tree was constructed based on the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) region of picornavirus. We identified 363 bacterial and 6 viral families. A significant difference in microbial and viral abundance was found between samples S01–S09 and S10. In S01–S09, members of Flavobacteriia and Gammaproteobacteria were the most prevalent, while in S10, the most prevalent bacteria class was Actinomycetia. Among S01–S09, members of Myoviridae and Herelleviridae were the most prevalent, while the dominant virus family of S10 was Picornaviridae. The full genome of the pigeon mesivirus-like virus (NC-BM-233) was recovered from S10 and contained an open reading frame of 8,124 nt. Background: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of mortality in childhood worldwide. However, a large number of children with CHD are not diagnosed promptly in low- and middle-income regions, due to limited healthcare resources and lack the ability of prenatal and postnatal ultrasound examinations. The research on asymptomatic CHD in the community is still blank, resulting in a large number of children with asymptomatic CHD can not be found and treated in time. Through the China-Cambodia collaborative health care initiative, the project team conducted research, screened children's CHD through a sampling survey in China and Cambodia, collected relevant data, and retrospectively analyzed the data of all eligible patients. Objectives: The project aimed to evaluate the prevalence of asymptomatic CHD in a sample population of 3-18years old and effects on their growth status and treatment outcomes. Methods: We examined the prevalence of 'asymptomatic CHD' among 3-18years old children and adolescents at the township/county levels in the two participating. A total of eight provinces in China and five provinces in Cambodia were analyzed from 2017 to 2020. During 1 year follow-up after treatment, the differences in heights and weights of the treated and control groups were evaluated. Results: Among the 3,068,075 participants screened from 2017 to 2020, 3967 patients with asymptomatic CHD requiring treatment were identified [0.130%, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.126 -0.134%]. The prevalence rate of CHD ranged from 0.02 to 0.88%, and was negatively related to local per capita GDP (p = 0.028). The average height of 3310 treated CHD patients were 2.23% (95% CI: -2.51%~-1.9%) lower than that of the standard group and the average weight was − 6.41% (95% CI: -7.17%~-5.65%) lower, the developmental gap widening with advancing age. One year after treatment, the relative height difference remained comparable while that, in weight was reduced by 5.68% (95% CI: 4.27% ~7.09%). Conclusions: Asymptomatic CHD now is often overlooked and is an emerging public health challenge. As an important part of electric vehicles, lithium-ion battery packs will have a certain environmental impact in the use stage. To analyze the comprehensive environmental impact, 11 lithium-ion battery packs composed of different materials were selected as the research object. By introducing the life cycle assessment method and entropy weight method to quantify environmental load, a multilevel index evaluation system was established based on environmental battery characteristics. The results show that the Li–S battery is the cleanest battery in the use stage. In addition, in terms of power structure, when battery packs are used in China, the carbon footprint, ecological footprint, acidification potential, eutrophication potential, human toxicity cancer and human toxicity noncancer are much higher than those in the other four regions. Although the current power structure in China is not conducive to the sustainable development of electric vehicles, the optimization of the power structure is expected to make electric vehicles achieve clean driving in China. Background: Radical or conservative surgical treatment for hepatic Cystic Echinococcosis (hepatic CE) is controversial. We aimed to measure the association between radical surgery (RS) versus conservative surgery (CS) and short-term outcomes in our cohort. Methods: Medical records of hepatic CE patients' demographic, clinical, radiological, operative and postoperative details who underwent surgical treatment between January 3, 2017 and January 3, 2018 at the Department of General Surgery, Nyingchi People's Hospital, Nyingchi, China, were retrieved and analyzed. The primary outcome was overall morbidity. The secondary outcomes included: (i) bile leakage; (ii) complications of lung, pleura, heart, liver, pancreas and biliary tract; (iii) incision infection and residual cavity abscess formation; (iv) anaphylactic reaction and shock; (v) tear of surrounding tissues; (vi) hospital and post-operative length of stay (LOS); (vii) length of surgery; (viii) blood loss during surgery. Multivariable logistic/linear regression models with various adjustment strategies for confounders were performed to evaluate the association. Results: A total of 128 hepatic CE patients were included with 82 (64.1%) and 46 (35.9%) receiving CS and RS, respectively. After fully adjusted, RS was associated with 60% lower risk of overall complication (aOR 0.4; 95%CI, 0.2–0.9) and 0.6-h shorter surgical time (aβ 0.4; 95%CI,-0.0–0.8) comparing to CS. However, RS was associated with more blood loss during surgery (aβ 179.3; 95%CI, 54.2–304.5). Conclusion: To conclude, RS was associated with a 60% reduction in developing overall complication in the short term, but may result in more blood loss during surgery than CS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A high oleic acid content is considered an essential characteristic in the breeding of high-quality rapeseed in China. Long-chain non-coding RNA (lncRNA) molecules play an important role in the plant's growth and its response to stress. To better understand the role of lncRNAs in regulating plant reproductive development, we analyzed whole-transcriptome and physiological data to characterize the dynamic changes in lncRNA expression during the four representative times of seed development of high- and low-oleic-acid rapeseed in three regions. We identified 21 and 14 lncRNA and mRNA modules, respectively. These modules were divided into three types related to region, development stages, and material. Next, we analyzed the key modules related to the oil content and the oleic acid, linoleic acid, and linolenic acid contents with physiological data and constructed the key functional network analysis on this basis. Genes related to lipid metabolism, such as 3-ketoacyl-CoA synthase 16 (KCS16) and acyl-CoA:diacylglycerol acyltransferase 1 (DGAT1), were present in the co-expression network, suggesting that the effect of these genes on lipid metabolism might be embodied by the expression of these lncRNAs. Our results provide a fresh insight into region-, development-stage-, and material-biased changes in lncRNA expression in the seeds of Brassica napus. Some of these lncRNAs may participate in the regulatory network of lipid accumulation and metabolism, together with regulated genes. Objective: Eravacycline is a novel, fully synthetic fluorocycline antibiotic being developed for the treatment of serious infections, with a broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, including against carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacteria (CRGNB). However, the in vitro activity of eravacycline against CRGNB has not been well known in China. In this study, we analysed the antibacterial activity of eravacycline against CRGNB isolates in order to provide a theoretical basis for the clinical treatment. Methods: A total of 346 isolates of CRGNB were collected from two different tertiary care hospitals in Zhejiang, China. Carbapenem resistance genes of all isolates were detected by polymerase chain reaction. And we analysed the in vitro activity of eravacycline against CRGNB by antimicrobial susceptibility tests. In addition, the time-kill curves were generated to evaluate the antibacterial effect of tigecycline and eravacycline. Results: Four different types of carbapenem-resistant isolates were collected, including 50 Escherichia coli isolates, 160 Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates, 42 Enterobacter cloacae complex isolates, and 94 Acinetobacter baumannii isolates. The carbapenem resistance genes were identified in 346 isolates, including blaKPC-2 (48.0%), blaOXA-23 (27.2%), blaNDM-1 (23.1%), and blaNDM-16 (0.3%). The antimicrobial susceptibility testing results showed that the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 346 isolates were within the sensitivity range (≤ 0.0625~16 mg/L) and that the MIC50 or MIC90 of eravacycline was generally approximately 2-fold lower than tigecycline. In addition, the time-kill curves showed that the bactericidal effect of eravacycline was stronger than that of tigecycline against four different types of isolates. Conclusion: Our research indicated that eravacycline had a good antibacterial effect on CRGNB, which could provide a theoretical basis for the clinical treatment of drug-resistant bacterial infections in the future. Using the cross-sectional data of 1,053 children aged 9 to 17 years from rural boarding schools in Henan, China, this study examined the differences in and relations among parenting practices and children's self-control and internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors between children who were left behind by their migrant parents and those who were not. The results showed that left-behind children had lower levels of self-control and more internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors and reported higher levels of parental refusal and overprotection than non-left-behind children. The three dimensions of parenting practices (parental refusal, overprotection, and warmth) predicted children's internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors via the mediating role of self-control, and these observed relations did not differ between left-behind children and non-left-behind children. Implications, limitations and future directions of this study were discussed. Highlights: Left-behind children reported lower levels of self-control and more internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors. Left-behind children perceived more parental refusal and overprotection than non-left-behind children. Parenting practices were associated with children's internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors via the mediating role of self-control. The mediation model did not differ between left-behind children and non-left-behind children. Blue–green water resources and their transformation play a vital role in crop production and ecosystem services regulation, and their distribution and utilization are affected by human activity, such as policy‐driven green water resources development projects. However, it is unclear how policy‐driven green water resources development projects, such as the Grain for Green Project (GGP) in China, affect eco‐environmental quality and socio‐economic development, that is, human–water co‐evolution. Therefore, considering the GGP in a subtropical ungauged basin in southern China as an example, based on remote sensing hydrological station (RSHS) technology and multisource remote sensing data, this study analyzed the impact of the GGP on human–water co‐evolution from the perspective of blue–green water resources. The results show that: (1) From 2001 to 2020 the GGP transformed more blue water resources into green water resources, resulting in an increase in green water resources of 282.29% compared to that of blue water resources. (2) Due to the initial success of the GGP in 2005, there was a distinct positive correlation between the green water coefficient (GWC) and basin development index (BDI) from 2005 to 2020 (R2 = 0.70, p < 0.05), indicating that the GGP did not cause conflict between the sustainability of socio‐economic development and the health of the ecological environment. (3) In the GGP scenario, in which the cultivated land area maintained 50% of the current decreasing rate, the overall efficiency index maintain a continuously increasing trend at an average rate of 0.001 year−1 from 2021 to 2050, which not only improved the eco‐environmental quality but also met cultivated land demand. This research reveals the role of GGP in promoting the transformation from blue to green water resources, and proves the feasibility of the simultaneous promotion of GGP and socio‐economic development, providing significant insights for the promotion of policy‐driven green water resources development projects and long‐term blue–green water resources planning and management in other countries or regions. Objective: Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is an X-linked genetic disorder that results in impaired enzyme activity. The G6PD/6PGD ratio assay was routinely used for G6PD deficiency screening in China, but there is an apparent defect of missed diagnosis in heterozygous females. The study aims to explore the means to improve its accuracy. Methods: A total of 4,161 Chinese females of childbearing age were collected in this retrospective study. All samples were first subjected to G6PD/6PGD ratio assay and then screened by amplification refractory mutation system PCR (ARMS-PCR) for six hotspot mutants in Chinese population (c.1376G>T, c.1388G>A, c.95A>G, c.1024C>T, c.392G>T, and c.871G>A). For the samples with G6PD/6PGD ratio<1.0 and no mutations were found by ARMS-PCR, next-generation sequencing (NGS) was performed. Sanger sequencing was finally used to verify all the variants. Results: The prevalence of G6PD deficiency in Shenzhen females of childbearing age was 7.31%. The proportion of the six hotspot mutations accounted for 98.03% of all 304 G6PD variants carriers. Taking the ARMS-PCR/NGS results as a reference, the missed diagnosis rate of the G6PD/6PGD ratio assay was 33.88%. Using ARMS-PCR to retest the samples with a G6PD/6PGD ratio between 1.00 and ∼1.10 or 1.00 and ∼1.15 could reduce the missed diagnosis rate from the original 33.88% to 18.09% or 12.05% separately. Conclusion: ARMS-PCR is an appropriate supplementary method for discovering most carriers missed by the G6PD/6PGD ratio assay. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Early Paleozoic subduction beneath peri-Gondwana microcontinents formed a major Proto-Tethys magmatic arc system. Appinite suite rocks constitute important components within that magmatic arc. Herein, we report hornblende 40Ar/39Ar and zircon U–Pb geochronology data, zircon Hf isotope, mineral chemistry, whole-rock geochemistry, and Sr–Nd–Pb isotope data for the rocks of hornblende gabbro-diorite-quartz diorite-quartz monzodiorite from the Renda appinite suite and adjacent granite porphyry in the southeastern Qilian Orogen. Hornblende 40Ar/39Ar and zircon U–Pb isotopic data constrain ages of the intrusions of the Renda appinite suite to 439–435 Ma. Rocks in this suite represent the calc-alkalic to alkali-calcic series, and they are enriched in large-ion lithophile elements and depleted in high-field-strength elements. The hornblende gabbros exhibit moderate initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7046–0.7055) and higher whole-rock εNd(t) (–1.3 to +1.7) and zircon εHf(t) (+7.2 to +11.2) values relative to the other rocks of the suite (0.7047–0.7064, – 7.7 to – 1.1, and – 6.6 to +6.8, respectively) as well as Pb isotopic features similar to EM2 lithospheric mantle. These geochemical characteristics suggest that the Renda appinite suite originates from partial melting of an enriched lithospheric mantle, with subsequent fractional crystallization and hybridization with crustal components. The granite porphyry formed by partial melting of the crust coeval with the emplacement of juvenile magma. This study suggests emplacement occurred during a short-lived collision with slab failure (breakoff) after latest stage (cessation) of Proto-Tethys oceanic subduction along the northern side of the southeastern Qilian Orogen. The heat supplied by the asthenospheric upwelling through a gap in the subducted slab induced melting in lithospheric mantle and deep crust producing Renda appinite suite rocks and granite porphyry. Purpose: There is a large area of coniferous plantations, such as Cunninghamia lanceolata and Pinus massoniana, in subtropics. Recent evidence has demonstrated that environmental factors and tree species mixtures have significant influences on soil organic carbon (SOC) storage in plantations. However, the diverse functional groups of SOC reveal different chemical stability. Therefore, the functional groups of SOC in subtropical plantations need to research. Methods: The SOC functional groups analyzed by 13C nuclear magnetic resonance, and their distribution were compared among subtropical plantations from northern, middle, and southern latitudes, and between monospecific and conifer-broadleaf mixed plantations. Results: Compared to that of the northern and middle latitude subtropical plantations, the evenness of the four SOC functional groups was higher in the southern latitude subtropical plantations. The temperature and soil bacterial α-diversity were positively correlated, and the soil fungal α-diversity was negatively correlated with the evenness of the SOC functional groups. The proportion of the recalcitrant SOC functional group (alkyl C) was higher in the conifer-broadleaf mixed plantations than in the coniferous plantations, particularly in C. lanceolata plantations. The climatic factors, soil pH and soil microbial α-diversity, rather than the functional groups of leaf litter and fine root C, led to the differences in the SOC functional groups between the monospecific and mixed plantations. Conclusion: Our findings highlight that there is a minor risk of C decomposition in the southern subtropical plantations, and converting coniferous plantations to mixed plantations, which could improve the chemical stability of SOC in subtropical regions. Firms in many industries obtain superior knowledge of customer preferences through industry experience or data analytics, whereas customers often need costly efforts to learn their match values. In this paper, we examine the situations under which a customer chooses whether to inspect upon observing her personalized price from a firm with superior knowledge. On the surface, it seems that the firm can use personalized prices to directly communicate the customers' match value, and thus there is no need for customers to expend inspection efforts. However, we find that in equilibrium the firm may trick low-preference customers into overpaying more than their match value, even when the inspection cost is low. The opportunistic incentives induce customer suspicions, which may lead to excessive customer inspection that would be avoided if the firm were not capable of price discrimination. Therefore, personalized pricing cannot obviate customer inspection. Since inspection cost raises a deadweight loss in social welfare, public policies that prevent firms from price-discriminating against customers may benefit both firms and customers. Vehicle lightweight and carbon neutrality turn out to be the critical goals in developing new energy vehicles. As an important part of electric vehicles, power battery packs have an impact on the environment. In this study, multiple environmental assessment indicators were grouped into a comprehensive index, namely the green characteristic index, and the green characteristic index was used to comprehensively evaluate the environmental impact of 11 kinds of battery packs. This study calculates and analyzes the environmental impact values of battery packs in different regions for four types of small, medium, intermediate, and limousine cars. Finally, the uncertainty analysis was carried out. Research has found that micro battery packs have a lower potential environmental impact than advanced battery packs, so smaller, more energy‐efficient battery electric vehicles (BEVs) generally perform better than larger BEVs for vehicle models. During the operation stage of the battery pack, the environmental impact value of carbon footprint and ecological footprint is greatly affected by the regional power structure. Running the battery pack in China will generate higher carbon footprint and ecological footprint. In addition, the green characteristic index is more affected by the stage of use. When the scene is switched, the larger the model of the electric vehicle, the more obvious its environmental emission reduction capability. This highlights the benefits of high‐efficiency electrical structures in large electric vehicles, which can reduce environmental impact by increasing lifetime and charging efficiency, reducing the loss of transport power in the area, and improving the weight‐to‐energy relationship for BEVs. Understanding the response of terrestrial ecosystem water use efficiency (WUE) to climate change is critical to accurately represent the carbon‐water cycle processes. However, how WUE dynamics are evolving under seasonal climate variations and biome‐specific characteristics remains still unclear. In this study, we integrated two state‐of‐the‐art retrieval algorithms to estimate gross primary productivity (GPP) and evapotranspiration (ET) from satellite MODIS records. Such metrics served as input to quantify ecosystem WUE, expressed as the ratio of GPP to ET, and explore its dynamics during the dry and wet season from 2001 to 2018 in China's key tropical to subtropical transitional zones, that is, Yunnan Province. Results show large spatial and seasonal variability in WUE over the observational period. During the dry season, the increasing trends in GPP and ET have led to contrasting WUE patterns in forest and non‐forest biomes, leading to positive and negative WUE trends, respectively. During the wet season, the declining trends in GPP occurring in combination with opposite trends in ET, have caused decreasing WUE consistently across all biomes except croplands, likely further modulated by human factors. The observed changes in WUE appear primarily driven by variations in air temperature (Ta) and vapor pressure deficit (VPD) during both dry and wet seasons. Overall, these results contribute to a better understanding of the carbon‐water interplay in tropical‐subtropical transitional zones and provide new insights to improve our capacity to predict the terrestrial ecosystem's response to climate change. Soundscape perception (SP) plays an important role in promoting tourist-place interaction and enhancing tourists' environmentally responsible behavior (ERB). In this study, we defined SP as a second-order factor and investigated its relationships with place attachment (PA) and tourists' ERB using structural equation modeling (SEM). Our aim was to identify how a soundscape could be improved to enhance the ERB of forest park tourists. Our results confirm the multidimensionality of SP, i.e., the three subdimensions of physical soundscape perception (PSP), psychological soundscape perception (SSP), and regional soundscape perception (RSP). Furthermore, our SEM results show that PA mediates the effect of the three subdimensions of SP on high-effort ERB (HERB). Our empirical results also reveal that the enhancement of tourists' SSP will foster their ERB. This study therefore extends the multisensory landscape literature by offering insights into the relationship between SP, PA, and tourists' ERB. Our findings provide empirical evidence for understanding the influence of SP on tourists' ERB in forest parks and demonstrate that PA should be considered an important context for soundscape design. Process interactions on catenas have supported grazing adapted ecosystems and sustained biodiversity values in the source zone of the Yellow River in western China for millennia. In recent decades, anthropogenic disturbance and climate change have threatened the integrity of these systems, impacting upon environmental values and their capacity to sustain local livelihoods. Collaborations between local experts and a team of international researchers during a workshop and field excursion to this area in July 2019 developed a cross-disciplinary, process-based model of alpine meadow catenas. This paper relates the contemporary health of these grassland-wetland systems to their 'best achievable state' under prevailing boundary conditions, differentiating stages of degradation and recovery in relation to climate and land use changes. Recovery is underway for alpine meadow catenas at Maqin. Reduced land use pressures (stocking rates) and longer growing seasons have enhanced grassland-wetland conditions. However, recovery prospects are limited for local areas of extremely degraded grasslands (heitutan), as breached abiotic thresholds have resulted in soil and nutrient loss and reduced capacity for water retention. While lagomorphs and rodents act as ecosystem engineers when alpine meadows are in a healthy state, irruptions locally increase the proportion of bare ground and inhibit recovery potential. Background: Tea oil is widely used as edible oil in China, which extracted from the seeds of Camellia oleifera. In China, the national oil-tea camellia planting area reached 4.533 million hectares, the output of oil-tea camellia seed oil was 627 000 tons, and the total output value reached 18.3 billion dollars. Anthracnose is the common disease of Ca. oleifera, which affected the production and brought huge economic losses. Colletotrichum fructicola is the dominant pathogen causing anthracnose in Ca. oleifera. The retromer complex participates in the intracellular retrograde transport of cargos from the endosome to the trans-Golgi network in eukaryotes. Vacuolar protein sorting 35 is a core part of the retromer complex. This study aimed to investigate the role of CfVps35 in C. fructicola. Results: The CfVPS35 gene was deleted, resulting in reduced mycelial growth, conidiation, and response to cell wall stresses. Further analysis revealed that CfVps35 was required for C. fructicola virulence on tea oil leaves. In addition, the ΔCfvps35 mutant was defective in glycogen metabolism and turgor during appressorium development. The antecedents of consumers' participation in value co-creation and how co-created value is transferred from consumers to enterprises remain to be explored. By taking the customers of travel agencies in China as the research targets, this study constructs a conceptual model to test the impact of customer psychological empowerment on customer value creation. The results showed that customer psychological empowerment not only directly stimulates customer value creation but also has an indirect impact on customer value creation through customer participation. Background: During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, seasonal influenza activity declined globally and remained below previous seasonal levels, but intensified in China since 2021. Preventive measures to COVID-19 accompanied by different epidemic characteristics of influenza in different regions of the world. To better respond to influenza outbreaks under the COVID-19 pandemic, we analyzed the epidemiology, antigenic and genetic characteristics, and antiviral susceptibility of influenza viruses in the mainland of China during 2020–2021. Methods: Respiratory specimens from influenza like illness cases were collected by sentinel hospitals and sent to network laboratories in Chinese National Influenza Surveillance Network. Antigenic mutation analysis of influenza virus isolates was performed by hemagglutination inhibition assay. Next-generation sequencing was used for genetic analyses. We also conducted molecular characterization and phylogenetic analysis of circulating influenza viruses. Viruses were tested for resistance to antiviral medications using phenotypic and/or sequence-based methods. Results: In the mainland of China, influenza activity recovered in 2021 compared with that in 2020 and intensified during the traditional influenza winter season, but it did not exceed the peak in previous years. Almost all viruses isolated during the study period were of the B/Victoria lineage and were characterized by genetic diversity, with the subgroup 1A.3a.2 viruses currently predominated. 37.8% viruses tested were antigenically similar to reference viruses representing the components of the vaccine for the 2020–2021 and 2021–2022 Northern Hemisphere influenza seasons. In addition, China has a unique subgroup of 1A.3a.1 viruses. All viruses tested were sensitive to neuraminidase inhibitors and endonuclease inhibitors, except two B/Victoria lineage viruses identified to have reduced sensitivity to neuraminidase inhibitors. Conclusions: Influenza activity increased in the mainland of China in 2021, and caused flu season in the winter of 2021–2022. Although the diversity of influenza (sub)type decreases, B/Victoria lineage viruses show increased genetic and antigenic diversity. We assessed longitudinal association between calcium intake during adolescence and hypertension in adulthood. Longitudinal study data of 1611 participants from the China Health and Nutrition Survey during 1991–2011 were used. On average they were followed for 11·4 years. Dietary calcium intake during adolescence was assessed based on three 24-hour dietary recalls collected in each visit/survey between 1991 and 2009 (seven waves). The intake was recoded into quartiles. Cumulative mean±SD calcium intake was 199·9±144·8 mg/1000 kcal/day during adolescence. In total 102 participants had hypertension in adulthood (97 men and 5 women). There was a clear U-shaped association between adolescence calcium intake quartiles and adulthood hypertension: across the quartiles, hypertension prevalence was 6·7%, 4·0%, 5·2% and 9·5%, respectively. After adjustment for potential confounders including weight status and dietary pattern, odds ratios (OR, 95% CI) for hypertension were 2·32 (95% CI 1·07–5·00) for lowest quartile, 1·00 (reference), 1·34 (95% CI 0·61–2·97), and 3·10 (95% CI 1·49–6·46) across the quartiles. Biodiversity is vital for the integrity and stability of ecosystems and sustainable development. Karst regions of Southwest China is featured for undulating and broken karst terrain as well as high plant diversity. Land use changes induced by the growing population and expanding human settlement have threatened biodiversity preservation in this region. However, the impact of urban expansion on plant diversity remains unclear here. This study focuses on how expanding countryside landscapes affect the recovery rate of plant diversity and demonstrate how urban expansion affects plant diversity conservation in karst regions of Southwest China. In situ biodiversity investigations and multisource remote sensing images were combined to analyze the role of human settlement evolution in the conservation of plant diversity using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. Unmanned vehicle images, historical aerial photographs, and long-term remote sensing images were used to observe the human settlement pattern changes over 40 yr and found that plant diversity is restored faster in countryside ecosystems than in island ecosystems restricted by water. Forests, however, contribute the most to plant diversity conservation in both ecosystems. While the forest area is stable during urban expansion, massive forest patches play an essential role in plant diversity conservation. Arable lands and grasslands shrank but with a fragmenting trend, which was conducive to preserving plant diversity, whereas increased and regularized large patches of built-up areas were not beneficial to plant diversity. Accordingly, forest protection should be prioritized to coordinate future socioeconomic development and plant diversity conservation in karst and broader regions. Furthermore, large built-up patches should be limited, and the irregularity should be improved during urban expansion. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) have potential carcinogenicity, immunotoxicity, and hepatotoxicity. Research has been conducted on PFAS exposure in people to discuss their potential health effects, excluding lung cancer. In this study, we recruited participants (n = 282) with lung cancer from Heilongjiang Province, northeast China. The PFAS concentrations were measured in their serum to fill the data gap of exposure, and relationships were explored in levels between PFASs and clinical indicators of tumor, immune and liver function. Ten PFASs were found in over 80 % of samples and their total concentrations were 5.27–152 ng/mL, with the highest level for perfluorooctanesulfonate (median: 12.4 ng/mL). Long-chain PFASs were the main congeners and their median concentration (20.5 ng/mL) was nearly three times to that of short-chain PFASs (7.61 ng/mL). Significantly higher concentrations of perfluorobutanoic acid, perfluorononanoic acid and perfluorohexanesulfonate were found in males than in females (p < 0.05). Serum levels of neuro-specific enolase were positively associated with perfluoropentanoic acid in all participants and were negatively associated with perfluorononanesulfonate in females (p < 0.05, multiple linear regression models). Exposure to PFAS mixture was significantly positively associated with the lymphocytic absolute value (difference: 0.224, 95% CI: 0.018, 0.470; p < 0.05, quantile g-computation models) and serum total bilirubin (difference: 2.177, 95% CI: 0.0335, 4.33; p < 0.05). Moreover, PFAS exposure can affect γ-glutamyl transpeptidase through several immune markers (p < 0.05, mediating test). Our results suggest that exposure to certain PFASs could interfere with clinical indicators in lung cancer patients. To our knowledge, this is the first study to detect serum PFAS occurrence and check their associations with clinical indicators in lung cancer patients. Soil erosion is a major environmental problem of global concern. In the Loess Plateau region of China, erosion of loess slopes is one of the major modes of soil erosion, causing serious erosional problems. Most current studies of loess slope erosion use qualitative analyses from field investigations, while quantitative analyses from experimental physical simulations are relatively rare. This paper takes slope erosion, which is the most typical mode of loess erosion, as the starting point and investigates the hydraulic erosion process for different initial states using small-scale physical simulations. The slope erosion process can be generalised into two stages: rapid erosion, and slow and uniform erosion. Results of the physical simulations suggested that the initial dry density is negatively correlated with the erosion rate, but the initial water content is positively correlated with the erosion rate. The results of the study are not only of practical significance for the prevention and control of soil erosion on loess slopes, but also of theoretical significance, as they reveal the development of slope gully erosion. The zirconia solid electrolyte SOFC (solid oxide fuel cell) has the characteristics of oxygen ion conduction function, high-temperature resistance, thermoelectric coupling effect, etc. A NOx sensor based on zirconia solid electrolyte has common characteristics and problems with the SOFC in principle and application. The research objective of this paper is to solve the application problems of smart NOx sensors in diesel vehicles or gasoline vehicles. Improvements in the application performance of the NOx sensor can help the NOx emissions of gasoline vehicles or diesel vehicles better meet the requirements of emission regulations. The smart NOx sensor is a regulatory sensor required by vehicles for China's Phase VI Vehicle Exhaust Emission Regulations or Euro Phase VI Vehicle Exhaust Emission Regulations. The smart NOx sensor is a key sensor device for improving fuel efficiency and reducing pollution. Moreover, its measurement performance includes dynamic immunity to interference, response speed, and measurement accuracy, which are key factors affecting vehicle emissions. This paper focuses on the impact of the physical structure, electrode characteristics, and control strategies of the sensor on its performance during the application. An excellent sensor structure, electrode structure, and control strategy are given based on application analysis and experimental testing. Aims: High resting heart rate (RHR), one abnormal manifestation of autonomic nervous system, is associated with metabolic disorders. However, the association between RHR and metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components remains controversial. We aimed to explore the link between these two parameters. Materials and Methods: The study included 6589 Dong adults (1434 cases of MetS) from the cross‐sectional survey of the China Multi‐Ethnic Cohort Study. Logistic regression model was used to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and assess the association between RHR and MetS, clustered metabolic risk, and MetS components. Restricted cubic splines model was used to evaluate the dose response association. Results: A positive association existed between RHR and MetS, and people in the highest RHR quartile had a higher MetS risk (OR 1.75 [95% CI 1.42–2.15]) than those in the lowest quartile. The clustered metabolic risk associated with RHR (p < 0.05). Furthermore, RHR was related to elevated blood pressure (BP), elevated triglycerides (TG) and elevated fasting plasma glucose (FPG); the ORs (95% CIs) for the highest versus lowest RHR quartile were 2.06 (1.75–2.43), 1.37 (1.17–1.62) and 2.53 (2.04–3.14), respectively. Similar results were found in sensitivity and subgroup analyses. Also, non‐linear dose response association existed between RHR and MetS and elevated levels of BP, TG and FPG (p < 0.001). Conclusions: RHR was related to increased risk of MetS, three MetS components (elevated BP, elevated TG and elevated FPG) and the clustered metabolic risk. RHR may be a useful indicator for MetS. Background: Healthy lifestyle behaviours are effective means to reduce the burden of diseases. This study was aimed to fill the knowledge gaps on the distribution, associated factors, and potential health benefits on mortality of four healthy lifestyle behaviours in China. Methods: During 2015–2019, participants aged 35–75 years from 31 provinces were recruited by the China PEACE Million Persons Project. Four healthy lifestyle behaviours were investigated in our study, including non-smoking, none or moderate alcohol use, sufficient leisure time physical activity (LTPA), and healthy diet. Results: Among 903,499 participants, 74.1% were non-smokers, 96.0% had none or moderate alcohol use, 23.6% had sufficient LTPA, 11.1% had healthy diet, and only 2.8% had all the four healthy lifestyle behaviours. The adherence varied across seven regions; the highest median of county-level adherence to all the four healthy lifestyle behaviours was in North China (3.3%) while the lowest in the Southwest (0.8%) (p < 0.05). Participants who were female, elder, non-farmers, urban residents, with higher income or education, hypertensive or diabetic, or with a cardiovascular disease (CVD) history were more likely to adhere to all the four healthy lifestyle behaviours (p < 0.001). County-level per capital Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was positively associated with sufficient LTPA (p < 0.05 for both rural and urban areas) and healthy diet (p < 0.01 for urban areas), while negatively associated with none or moderate alcohol use (p < 0.01 for rural areas). Average annual temperature was negatively associated with none or moderate alcohol use (p < 0.05 for rural areas) and healthy diet (p < 0.001 for rural areas). Those adhering to all the four healthy lifestyle behaviours had lower risks of all-cause mortality (HR 0.64 [95% CI: 0.52, 0.79]) and cardiovascular mortality (HR 0.53 [0.37, 0.76]) after a median follow-up of 2.4 years. Loess presents very unique collapsible behaviour due to its special under-compactness, weak cementation and porousness. Many environmental issues and geological hazards including subgrade subsidences, slope collapses or failures, building cracking and so on are directly caused by the collapsible deformation of loess. Such collapsible behaviour may also severe accidents due to sinkholes, underground caves or loess gullies. Moreover, with the increasing demand of construction and development in the loess areas, an in-depth research towards effective evaluation of loess collapsibility is urged. Currently no studies have made attempts to explore a rather complete and representative area of Loess Plateau. This paper thus provides a novel approach on spatial modelling over Jin-Shan Loess Plateau as an extension to experimental studies. The in-lab experiment results have shown that shown that the porosity ratio and collapsibility follow a Gaussian distribution and a Gamma distribution respectively for both sampling areas: Yan'an and Lv Liang. This establishes the prior intuition towards spatial modelling which provides insights of potential influential factors on loess collapsibility and further sets a potential direction of the loess studies by considering an extra dimension of spatial correlation. Such modelling allows robust predictions taken into account of longitudinal information as well as structural parameters and basic physical properties. Water contents, dry densities, pressure levels and elevations of samples are determined to be statistically significant factors which affect the loess collapsibility. All regions in Lv Liang area are at risk of high collapsibility with average around 0.03, out of which roughly a third of them are predicted to be at high risk. Clear spatial patterns of higher expected collapsibility in the southwest comparing to the northeast are shown adjusting for influential covariates. Good's syndrome (GS) is characterized by thymoma combined with adult‐onset immunodeficiency. Diffuse panbronchiolitis (DPB) is a chronic inflammatory airway disease, which predominantly affects East Asians. Japanese scholars have reported extensively about GS combined with DPB or DPB‐like pulmonary manifestation. However, such reports are rare in China. We report here a case of GS in China with DPB as the prominent manifestation and carry out a literature review accordingly. Our review indicates that in adults with DPB‐like clinical manifestations, thymic lesions should be excluded and related immune function tests should be performed to exclude GS to avoid missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis. Spread of the carbapenemase-encoding and mobilized colistin resistance (mcr) genes among Enterobacteriales poses a great threat to global public health, especially when the both genes are transferred by a single plasmid. Here, we identified a bla NDM– 1- and mcr-9 -co-encoding plasmid harbored by a clinical isolate of Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPN710429). KPN710429 was recovered from a blood sample from an inpatient in a tertiary hospital in China, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing showed that it was multidrug-resistant and only susceptible to aztreonam, colistin, and tigecycline. KPN710429 belongs to sequence type (ST) 1308 and capsular serotype KL144. The string test of KPN710429 was negative, and this strain didn't exhibit a hypervirulent phenotype according to serum-killing and Galleria mellonella lethality assessments. Whole-genome sequencing revealed the KPN710429 genome comprises a single chromosome and three plasmids. All virulence associated genes were harbored by chromosome. Most of its antimicrobial resistance genes, including bla NDM– 1 and mcr-9 were carried by plasmid pK701429_2, belonging to the incompatibility (Inc) HI2/HI2A group and ST1. Comparative genomics assays indicates that pK710429_2 could be a hybrid plasmid, formed by a Tn 6696 -like bla NDM– 1 region inserting into a mcr-9 -positive-IncHI2/HI2A plasmid. pK710429_2 contained the conjugative transfer gene regions, Tra1 and Tra2, with some structural variations, and conjugation assays revealed that pK710429_2 was transferable. Although pK710429_2 lacked the qseB - qseC regulatory genes, mcr-9 expression was upregulated after pretreatment with colistin for 6 h, leading to colistin resistance in KPN710429. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a bla NDM– 1- and mcr-9 -co-encoding transferable plasmid harbored by a bloodstream-infection-causing K. pneumoniae strain in China. Epilepsy is a common neurologic disorder characterized by intractable seizures, involving genetic factors. There is a need to develop reliable genetic markers to predict the risk of epilepsy and design effective therapies. Arsenite methyltransferase (AS3MT) catalyzes the biomethylation of arsenic and hence regulates arsenic metabolism. AS3MT variation has been linked to the progression of various diseases including schizophrenia and attention deficit or hyperactivity disorder. Whether genetic polymorphism of AS3MT contributes to epilepsy remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the association of AS3MT gene polymorphism with susceptibility to epilepsy in children from south China. We also explored the effect of AS3MT variation on the safety of antiepileptic drugs. Genotypic analysis for AS3MT rs7085104 was performed using samples from a Chinese cohort of 200 epileptic children and 244 healthy individuals. The results revealed a genetic association of AS3MT rs7085104 with susceptibility to pediatric epilepsy. Mutant homozygous GG genotype exhibited a lower susceptibility to childhood epilepsy than AA genotype. Carriers of AS3MT rs7085104 AA genotype exhibited a higher risk of digestive adverse drug reactions (dADRs) in children when treated with valproic acid (VPA) or oxcarbazepine (OXC). Additionally, bioinformatics analysis identified eight AS3MT target genes related to epilepsy and three AS3MT -associated genes in VPA-related dADRs. The effects of AS3MT on epilepsy might involve multiple targets including CNNM2 , CACNB2 , TRIM26 , MTHFR , GSTM1 , CYP17A1 , NT5C2 , and YBX3. This study reveals that AS3MT may be a new gene contributing to epileptogenesis. Hence, analysis of AS3MT polymorphisms will help to evaluate susceptibility to pediatric epilepsy and drug safety. Background: Mitochondria have been shown to play vital roles during severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) development. Currently, it is unclear whether mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variants, which define mtDNA haplogroups and determine oxidative phosphorylation performance and reactive oxygen species production, are associated with COVID-19 risk. Methods: A population-based case–control study was conducted to compare the distribution of mtDNA variations defining mtDNA haplogroups between healthy controls (n = 615) and COVID-19 patients (n = 536). COVID-19 patients were diagnosed based on molecular diagnostics of the viral genome by qPCR and chest X-ray or computed tomography scanning. The exclusion criteria for the healthy controls were any history of disease in the month preceding the study assessment. MtDNA variants defining mtDNA haplogroups were identified by PCR-RFLPs and HVS-I sequencing and determined based on mtDNA phylogenetic analysis using Mitomap Phylogeny. Student's t-test was used for continuous variables, and Pearson's chi-squared test or Fisher's exact test was used for categorical variables. To assess the independent effect of each mtDNA variant defining mtDNA haplogroups, multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) with adjustments for possible confounding factors of age, sex, smoking and diseases (including cardiopulmonary diseases, diabetes, obesity and hypertension) as determined through clinical and radiographic examinations. Results: Multivariate logistic regression analyses revealed that the most common investigated mtDNA variations (> 10% in the control population) at C5178a (in NADH dehydrogenase subunit 2 gene, ND2) and A249d (in the displacement loop region, D-loop)/T6392C (in cytochrome c oxidase I gene, CO1)/G10310A (in ND3) were associated with a reduced risk of severe COVID-19 (OR = 0.590, 95% CI 0.428–0.814, P = 0.001; and OR = 0.654, 95% CI 0.457–0.936, P = 0.020, respectively), while A4833G (ND2), A4715G (ND2), T3394C (ND1) and G5417A (ND2)/C16257a (D-loop)/C16261T (D-loop) were related to an increased risk of severe COVID-19 (OR = 2.336, 95% CI 1.179–4.608, P = 0.015; OR = 2.033, 95% CI 1.242–3.322, P = 0.005; OR = 3.040, 95% CI 1.522–6.061, P = 0.002; and OR = 2.890, 95% CI 1.199–6.993, P = 0.018, respectively). Conclusions: This is the first study to explore the association of mtDNA variants with individual's risk of developing severe COVID-19. Based on the case–control study, we concluded that the common mtDNA variants at C5178a and A249d/T6392C/G10310A might contribute to an individual's resistance to developing severe COVID-19, whereas A4833G, A4715G, T3394C and G5417A/C16257a/C16261T might increase an individual's risk of developing severe COVID-19.
