Aim and Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the intensity of needs for home health care services (HHCs) among elderly patients with chronic diseases and to identify the associated factors. Design: A cross‐sectional survey was conducted in Wuhou District, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, from April to November 2021. Methods: Convenient sampling was used to screen elderly patients with chronic diseases managed by Yulin Community Health Service Center. The questionnaires included general information and the Chinese version of the Community Healthy Intensity Rating Scale were completed according to patients' conditions. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression. Results: A total of 371 patients (10.40%) completed the survey. The mean age of the elderly patients was 84.04 years (SD = 7.07); these patients suffered from 1 to 7 kinds of chronic diseases, and the most common were hypertension (78.98%) and diabetes (40.97%). The need intensity of patients for HHCs was moderate (41.51%) or severe (58.49%). For each additional chronic disease that patients suffered from, the need intensity increases by 1.289 times (OR = 1.289; 95% CI: 1.055–1.575, p =.013); in additional, those aged more than 90 years, with a personal monthly income less than 2500 yuan ($387.00), with a poor health current status, and with only basic medical insurance presented greater need intensity (p <.05). Conclusion: Our data analysis revealed that economic status, insurance condition, poor health status, and multiple comorbidities may be the most common factors associated with the need intensity for HHCs. The ongoing shifts in climate, coupled with human activities, are leading to significant land desertification; thus, understanding the long-term variations in ecosystem services as well as the driving factors has a significant value for ensuring ecological security in ecologically fragile arid regions. In this study, we used the RUSLE, RWEQ, CASA, and InVEST models to evaluate five typical ecosystem services (ESs) from 1990 to 2020 in the Gonghe Basin, including soil conservation, sand fixation, carbon sequestration, water yield, and habitat quality. Then, we analyzed the trade-offs between ESs and proposed scientific indications. Finally, we identified the driving mechanisms of ES spatiotemporal variations. The results showed that (1) the ecosystem services in the Gonghe Basin have, overall, improved over the past 30 years. Soil conservation, sand fixation, carbon sequestration, and water yield showed upward trends, while habitat quality showed a downward trend. (2) The relationships between ESs in the Gonghe Basin were characterized by strong synergies and weak trade-offs, with significant spatial heterogeneity in terms of the trade-off intensity. In addition, the implementation of ecological engineering may strengthen the intensity of the trade-offs. (3) Among all the factors (temperature, precipitation, wind speed, NDVI, land use type, slope, DEM and soil type) that affected ESs, NDVI had the greatest impact, and the explanatory power was 49%, followed by soil type. The explanatory power of the interactions between each factor was higher than that of a single factor, and the interaction between NDVI and soil type had the greatest impact. ESs increased by 12% mainly due to the implementation of ecological engineering projects and natural factors. The most suitable area for ESs was the southeastern edge of the Gonghe Basin. Our study will enrich the understanding of the mechanisms of ecosystem services in drylands and provide a scientific basis for the future implementation of ecological engineering on the Qinghai Tibet Plateau. The Tashisayi Li deposit was newly discovered in the eastern part of the Tashisayi batholith, located in the Altyn Tagh region of Northwest China. A Li-rich composite pegmatite-aplite dyke (γ02) displays superimposed relationships among different Li-bearing phases, including lepidolite-albite-quartz pegmatite (LAQ), spodumene-albite-quartz pegmatite (SAQ), and aplite. The timing and conditions of magmatism and Li mineralization in the Tashisayi remain enigmatic. The study involved field observations, U–(Th)–Pb dating of columbite-group minerals (CGM), zircon, and monazite, and geochemical analyses of CGM and quartz. U–Pb dating of CGM of the γ02 dyke revealed formation ages of 471.6±3.5 Ma (LAQ), 439.6±5.0 Ma (SAQ), and 416.3±4.8 Ma (aplite). Zircon U-Pb and monazite U-(Th)-Pb dating of biotite granite, pegmatitic aplite, and muscovite granite yielded ages of ca. 473 Ma, 439 Ma, and 425 Ma, respectively. The dating results indicate that the rare-metal pegmatites and granites in the Tashisayi area were emplaced during various periods from the Early Ordovician to Early Devonian, consistent with other rare-metal deposits in the Tugeman region. The textural and geochemical analyses on the CGM and quartz reveal that the LAQ, SAQ and aplite crystallized from highly evolved magmas under water-poor and relatively low temperature conditions, experiencing distinct evolution trend and forming processes. Additionally, both LAQ and SAQ were influenced by fluid or magma activities and the pegmatitic melt forming LAQ could enrich both Li and Sn. Extensive tectonic events in the Altyn Tagh Orogen, including ocean basin closure and continental collisions, promote the development of Li-rich granitic magmas. Thus, we argue that the multiple magmatic and Li mineralization events in the Tashisayi area are most likely originated from the melting of Proterozoic crustal materials, and the process was controlled by tectonic interactions between the Central Altyn, Southern Altyn, Northern Altyn, and Eastern Kunlun blocks. Background: Primary care providers play an important role in home health care, and their practice behavior is significant for care quality and patient outcomes. This study aimed to assess the home care practice behavior of Chinese primary care providers and to explore the factors associated with the practice behavior. Methods: A multicenter cross-sectional design with a convenience sample was used to survey 863 registered primary care providers from 62 primary health care settings in Sichuan Province, China. Descriptive statistics, t-test or ANOVA for one-way analysis, and Pearson's correlation analyses were used to compare the differences and examine the relationships between participants' demographics and experience of home care services and practice behavior. Multiple linear regression models were performed to identify salient variables associated with the practice behavior from among demographic and home care experience. Results: The score of home care practice behavior questionnaire was 97.25 ± 21.05. The average scores for the dimensions of home visit preparation, assessment, medical care behavior and safety practice were 3.70 ± 0.95, 3.76 ± 1.02, 3.66 ± 1.03, and 3.20 ± 0.46, respectively. Home care practice behavior was associated with working years, working experience in general hospitals, work area, home care experience such as client types of home care, service frequency and willingness, explaining 21.5% of the total variance. Conclusion: Chinese primary care providers had a medium to high level of home care practice behavior but poor implementation of safety practice. Hourly automatic snow depth stations have enhanced insights into the dynamics and spatial variability of daily snowmelt. From 2021 to 2022, we gathered hourly snow depth measurements from six Hulun Buir grassland stations. Our analysis shed light on the dynamics of snowmelt and the key drivers in this northern region. We found that in northern China's mid-high latitude grasslands, winter snow cover persists for about 80 to 134 days. The transition to the melting phase in early March spans 5 to 12 days, with continuous and rapid phases. Snow under 3 cm quickly collapses. If the average temperature from 10:00 to 18:00 exceeds 0 °C, complete melting occurs within 36 h. Daily snow melting sees initial stability, swift decline, and gradual reduction, peaking between 11:00 and 14:00. Finally, thermal conditions primarily drive snow melt dynamics, with 14:00 ground temperature being pivotal. Fire is crucial for shaping northern forest ecosystems and can affect soil microbial community structure. However, there are few studies on the long-term effects of forest fire disturbance on soil microbial community diversity. In this study, we employed high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA and ITS1 to assess variations in the abundance of bacterial and fungal communities in dominant populations at 1, 6, and 11 years post-fire. Furthermore, a comprehensive analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between soil microenvironmental changes and soil microbial communities after fire disturbances, considering soil physicochemical properties, including bulk density, moisture content, pH, organic carbon, total nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, available potassium, and available phosphorus. We found that fire significantly increased soil pH, NO3−-N, AP, and AK contents, in which the content of NO3−-N basically recovered to the pre-fire level at 11 years after fire. The soil SOC and TN contents decreased significantly 1 year after the fire. However, compared to the unfired site, the SOC content essentially recovered 11 years after the fire, while TN content was still significantly higher 11 years after fire. Furthermore, fire changed the diversity and richness of soil microbial communities to some extent. PCoA and NMDS analyses suggested that the bacterial community structures in soil samples from different burned areas with different recovery periods exhibited similarity. However, notable differences were observed in the fungal community structures between the 1-year and 6-year post-fire study sites when compared to the unburned control site. Bacterial communities predominantly comprised Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Acidobacteria, while fungal communities were mainly dominated by Ascomycota and Basidiomycota. RDA confirmed the significant roles of SOC, TN, and NO3−-N in affecting the diversity of soil microbial communities. Therefore, our study not only enhances our understanding of the long-term effects of forest fire disturbances on soil properties and soil microbial community structure, but also provides insights for further utilizing and controlling carbon and nitrogen content to regulate soil microbial activity and accelerate the recovery process of burned areas. The instructional pattern of Problem-based Learning, which requires teachers to be "organizers, guides and cooperators" of their students' learning, is now becoming a trend in the development of medical education around the world. In order to be competent in all the above mentioned roles, teachers need to be equipped with corresponding qualities. In this article, basic qualities under the ideal PBL conditions are summarized from relevant literatures and teachers' practical ability was also understood through analysis of requirements. Then the difference between the ideals and reality was discovered, also a question data base was set up accordingly as the starting point to train teachers and seek a solution to intrigue them to implement PBL. Thus, a teachers' training system of "Five in One", the integration of requirement analysis, objectives setting, methods selection, content design and quality assurance, was constructed.

Rhizoma Panacis Japonici (RPJ) is an ancient herbal medicine from China that has long been employed for its medicinal benefits in relieving arthritis physical debility and diverse afflictions. The primary bioactive constituents found in RPJ are triterpene saponins, which exhibit numerous pharmacological actions, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulating effects. The present study established a straightforward and effective approach for characterizing triterpene saponins in RPJ. An offline HILIC × RP LC/QTOF-MS method was developed, along with a self-constructed in-house database containing 612 saponins reported in the Panax genus and 228 predicted metabolites. The approach achieved good chromatographic performance in isolating triterpene saponins of RPJ, with the HILIC column as the first dimension (1D) and the BEH C18 column as the second dimension (2D). The developed two-dimensional liquid chromatography system exhibited an orthogonality of 0.61 and a peak capacity of 1249. Detection was performed using a QTOF mass spectrometer in a data-independent manner (MSE) in a negative ion mode. Using the in-house database, the collected MS data were processed by an automatic workflow on UNIFI 1.8.2 software, which included data correction, matching of precursor and product ions, and peak annotation. In this study, 307 saponins were characterized from RPJ and 76 saponins were identified for the first time in Panax japonicus. This research not only enhances our understanding of the chemical characteristics of RPJ but also offers a simple and efficient method for analyzing the complex composition of herbal medicine. Aiming to solve the problems of excessive straw residue and large soil loss in the seeding belt of the straw row-sorting operation when the full volume of straw is crushed and returned to the field in the northeastern region of China, an active spiral pushing straw row-sorting device (ASPSRD) was designed in this paper. The straw on the surface of the land is collected and stirred by the high-speed rotating spiral-notched blades in the device and pushed to the non-seeding area for the purpose of cleaning the seeding belt. The parameters of key components were determined through theoretical analysis. The orthogonal combination test method of four factors and three levels was adopted. The EDEM discrete element simulation experiment was carried out by selecting the straw mulching quantity (SMQ), the rotating speed of the active rotating shaft (RSARS), the forward speed of the tractor (FST), and the notch width of the spiral notch blade (NWSNB) as the test factors, and the straw-cleaning rate (SCR) and soil loss rate (SLR) as the test indexes. Through range analysis, the parameters were optimized, and the optimal operation parameters of the straw row-sorting device were determined as follows: SMQ was 1.8 kg/m2, RSARS was 120 rpm, FST was 4 m/s, and NWSNB was 9 mm. The operational performance of the device was verified by field experiments. The results of the test showed that after the device was operated with the optimal combination of parameters, the SCR of the 20 cm wide seeding belt was 95.32%, and the SLR was 7.12%, which met the agronomic and technical requirements of corn no-tillage sowing operation in Northeast China. The Inner Mongolia segment of the Yellow River basin (IMYRB) is a typical area for ecological restoration in China. At the end of the 20th century, influenced by climate and human activities, such as mining, grazing, and farmland abandonment, the ecological security of the IMYRB was under more significant pressure. To alleviate the pressure on natural ecosystems and improve the fragile ecological situation, China implemented the "Grain-for-Green" (GFG) project in 1999. However, the evolutionary characteristics of the ecological security of the IMYRB in the first two decades of the 21st century are still lacking. Quantitative and long-term ecological security information of "Grain-for-Green" is needed. Based on this, this study used the "Pressure (P)-State (S)-Response (R)" method and proposed an ecological security assessment and early warning system based on multi-source remote sensing data. The evaluation results indicated a significant improvement in ecological security in the IMYRB from 2000 to 2020. Compared to 2000, the ecological security of the IMYRB had improved significantly in 2020, with an increase of 11.02% (ES > 0.65) and a decrease of 8.89% (ES < 0.35). For the early warning aspect of ecological security, there was a 26.31% growth in non-warning areas, with a 5% decrease in warning areas. Based on the analysis of ecologically critical factors, we proposed the implications for future ecological management as follows. (1) In ecologically fragile areas such as the IMYRB, continued implementation of the GFG was necessary. (2) Vegetation restoration should be scientific and tailored adaptive. (3) The protection of arable land also showed necessity. (4) The grazing management skills should be upgraded. Our study demonstrated that the ecological benefits derived from the "GFG" project are not immediate but cumulative and persistent. This study used think-aloud protocols to compare essay-rating processes across holistic and analytic rating scales in the context of China's College English Test Band 6 (CET-6). A group of 9 experienced CET-6 raters scored the same batch of 10 CET-6 essays produced in an operational CET-6 administration twice, using both the CET-6 holistic essay-rating scale and an analytic rating scale designed specifically for the study, while providing think-aloud protocols. The findings indicated that important differences in both rating strategies adopted and the specific aspects of essays attended to existed across the scales. Specifically, raters were found to use more self-monitoring-interpretation strategies, the strategy of considering local language features, as well as certain self-monitoring-judgment strategies when rating holistically. They were found to use more frequently self-monitoring-judgment strategy, error-classifying strategy, and quality-assessing strategy when applying the analytic scale. As for the differences in text focus across the scales, it was found that the use of the holistic scale led to raters paying more attention to the general quality of language use and non-scale-related language features. Meanwhile, the application of the analytic scale resulted in raters giving more attention to coherence and grammar.

Rapeseed is one of China's major oil crops, and accurate yield forecasting is crucial to the growth of the rapeseed industry and the country's food security. In this study, the data on natural and socio-economic factors from 2001 to 2020 and the yield of rapeseed in China were used as the data basis. The Pearson correlation coefficient was used to analyze the relationship between the influencing factors and the yield of rapeseed, and the prediction effect of four machine learning models (linear regression (LR), decision tree (DTR), random forest (RF), and support vector machine (SVM)) on the yield of rapeseed was compared in China's main rapeseed-producing area. The results demonstrate that the yield of rapeseed in China showed an increasing trend, but fluctuated greatly. Rural electricity consumption, gross agricultural production, the net amount of agricultural fertilizer application, effective irrigation area, total power of agricultural machinery, and consumption of agricultural plastic film had a positive effect on the increase in rapeseed yield. However, due to the impact of climate change and disasters, the yield of rapeseed has had significant fluctuations. A Pearson correlation analysis showed that socio-economic factors (rural electricity consumption, gross agricultural production, effective irrigation area, total power of agricultural machinery, consumption of agricultural plastic film, etc.) played a dominant role in rapeseed yield changes. The RF model had a good prediction effect on rapeseed yield, and natural factors and socio-economic factors had different effects on spring rapeseed and winter rapeseed. Winter rapeseed yield was mainly affected by socio-economic factors, accounting for as high as 89% of the importance. Among them, the sown area of rapeseed and the effective irrigation area had the greatest impact. The effects of natural factors and socio-economic factors on spring rapeseed yield were similar, accounting for 47% and 53%, respectively, and the mean annual precipitation, sunshine duration, and sown area of rapeseed were the most influential variables. The Chinese Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) is a magnetic confinement fusion reactor independently designed and developed by China, which is based on the ITER design experience. As one of the candidates for the CFETR, the water cooled ceramic blanket (WCCB) mainly carries out many important tasks, such as tritium breeding and radiation shielding. The high tritium breeding ability is one of the most significant goals of the blanket. For the design of the CFETR, in addition to meeting the requirements of tritium breeding, the design of the blanket must also consider meeting relevant shielding limits. Due to the limited space of the blanket, the improvement in tritium breeding space will inevitably lead to the reduction in neutron shielding space behind the breeding area, and vice versa. Therefore, under the premise of meeting the requirements of neutron shielding, increasing the tritium breeding space as much as possible is the focus of research. In this work, a three-dimensional neutronics model containing the WCCB blanket is developed, and the neutronics performance is calculated based on 1.5 GW fusion power. A set of nuclear analyses are carried out by the MCNP code, including analysis of the neutron wall load, tritium breeding ratio (TBR), and fast neutron fluence of the TF coil. It is found that the shielding space of certain blanket modules could be optimized. After the shielding optimization, the global TBR increased from 1.168 to 1.186, an increase of 0.018 TBR. This study is the first to propose the deployment of direct air capture (DAC) systems at large airports to provide solutions for achieving carbon neutrality in aviation transportation. Here, an estimating model for carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the landing and take-off (LTO) phase of large airports was developed, and the suitability of deploying DAC systems at airports was evaluated by the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). This study found that the annual CO2 emissions of 52 large airports in the LTO phase are about 23 Mt, accounting for about 23% of the total CO2 emissions of civil aviation in China. The four dimensions of airport transportation conditions, meteorological conditions, space resources, and security levels had a decreasing impact on the deployment of DAC systems in that order. The airports with suitable DAC systems are mainly located in the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, and the Chengdu-Chongqing Airport Cluster. This study provides a theoretical basis for the deployment of DAC systems at airports, which provides new CO2 emission reduction solutions for the aviation transportation industry. Subduction system in the Qilian orogenic belt experienced the variability of an active continental arc in space and time related to the subduction of the Proto‐Tethys Ocean. Zircon U–Pb geochronology and whole‐rock chemical and Sr–Nd isotopic data of mafic to intermediate dykes in the western part of the Central Qilian belt (WCQB) are used to track magma provenance from compositionally variable reservoirs in the sub‐arc mantle and constrain the magmatic evolution of the rear‐arc at 450–445 Ma. Petrological, whole‐rock chemical and zircon U–Pb dating results reveal that the studied dykes mainly comprise calc‐alkaline lamprophyre (CAL), high Mg# andesitic porphyrite (HMA) and high FeO hornblende gabbro (HFG) with crystallization ages of 447, 453 and 448 Ma, respectively. Among them, CAL and HMA have affinities in high‐K calc‐alkaline suites, high REE contents (∑REE = 131.1–202.3 ppm) with high LaN/YbN values (6.77–17.99), enriched in large‐ion lithophile elements (LILE, e.g., Rb and U), and depleted in high‐field‐strength elements (HFSE, e.g., Nb, Ta, and Ti). They also have high Th/La (0.20–0.46), Th/Nb (0.67–1.64) and Th/Yb (3.88–14.11) ratios, and relatively high whole‐rock initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.707469–0.708493) and εNd(t) values (−4.7 to −3.1). Whereas, HFG is affinities in medium to high‐K calc‐alkaline suites, and has moderate rare earth elements (∑REE = 70.1–112.5 ppm) with flat REE patterns (LaN/YbN = 2.12–3.05) and exhibits enriched LILE, and Sr–Nd isotopes ((87Sr/86Sr)i = 0.713496–0.729216, εNd(t) = −2.93 to +2.04). Such typical "continental" geochemical features of the different K‐rich dykes do not result from crustal assimilation but reflect an enriched mantle source resulting from their mantle heterogeneity due to recycling of different subducted sediments. The temporal evolution of the geochemical characteristics of mafic‐intermediate dykes is consistent with an extension setting triggered by removing the thickened arc crust root in the WCQB. The rapid development of Internet technology has formed a huge virtual information space. In the information space, information flow has become a link of communication between objects. Information flow is an alternative or supplement to the traditional physical flow for the study of the spatial interaction of geographical entities. The research uses toponym co-occurrence and search index as information flow data, verifies the geographical laws hidden in the information space by spatial autocorrelation analysis and gravity model fitting, and analyzes the spatial interaction patterns of provinces in China in the information space by complex network analysis methods. The results show that: (1) information flow in the information space obeys Tobler's first law of geography and Goodchild's second law of geography. The spatial interaction represented by information flow has a distance decay effect. The best distance decay coefficients for toponym co-occurrence and the search index are 0.189 and 0.186, respectively. (2) The inter-provincial spatial interaction network of China shows a hierarchical pattern of the triangular primary network and diamond secondary network, and the ranking of provinces in the centrality analysis is basically stable, but the network hierarchy is deepening. The gravity center of spatial interaction is located in the east-central region of China. (3) The information flow-based interaction network is of higher asymmetry than the population mobility network, and its spatial structure is also obvious. Precision seeding is an effective technical way to improve quality and reduce material costs. However, certain factors limit the development and promotion of precision seeding technology, among which the main factor is that the agronomic requirements of sowing vary significantly in different areas, and there is a lack of suitable implements; at the same time, each link among the parts interact, which brings specific difficulties to improving the operational effect. This paper summarizes the precision seeding technology from the perspective of precision seeding realization and the consistency of seed spacing and use of consistent sowing depth control technology. A detailed description is included of the precision seed-discharge technology, the smooth seed-dropping technology, and the seed falling into the seed bed with precision. The need for regulation technology for consistent sowing depth is explained from a developmental perspective. The research status of compatible sowing depth control technology is described, as used in soil covering and compacting. This paper presents the problems and future development directions of soil-covering and compacting technology under precision-seeding conditions, including developing adaptable regional soil-covering and compacting devices, improving the processing and equipment technology of enterprises, strengthening the structural optimization design of soil-covering and compacting devices, conducting research into soil-covering and compacting control methods, and promoting the intellectual development of agricultural equipment. Background: Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MP-MRI) has high sensitivity for diagnosing breast cancers but cannot always be used as a routine diagnostic tool. The present study aimed to evaluate whether the diagnostic performance of perfluorobutane (PFB) contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is similar to that of MP-MRI in breast cancer and whether combining the two methods would enhance diagnostic efficiency. Patients and methods: This was a head-to-head, prospective, multicenter study. Patients with breast lesions diagnosed by US as Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) categories 3, 4, and 5 underwent both PFB-CEUS and MP-MRI scans. On-site operators and three reviewers categorized the BI-RADS of all lesions on two images. Logistic-bootstrap 1000-sample analysis and cross-validation were used to construct PFB-CEUS, MP-MRI, and hybrid (PFB-CEUS + MP-MRI) models to distinguish breast lesions. Results: In total, 179 women with 186 breast lesions were evaluated from 17 centers in China. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for the PFB-CEUS model to diagnose breast cancer (0.89; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.74, 0.97) was similar to that of the MP-MRI model (0.89; 95% CI 0.73, 0.97) (P = 0.85). The AUC of the hybrid model (0.92, 95% CI 0.77, 0.98) did not show a statistical advantage over the PFB-CEUS and MP-MRI models (P = 0.29 and 0.40, respectively). However, 90.3% false-positive and 66.7% false-negative results of PFB-CEUS radiologists and 90.5% false-positive and 42.8% false-negative results of MP-MRI radiologists could be corrected by the hybrid model. Three dynamic nomograms of PFB-CEUS, MP-MRI and hybrid models to diagnose breast cancer are freely available online. Conclusions: PFB-CEUS can be used in the differential diagnosis of breast cancer with comparable performance to MP-MRI and with less time consumption. Desertification is one of the most severe environmental and socioeconomic issues facing the world today. Gonghe Basin is located in the monsoon marginal zone of China, is a sensitive area of climate change in the northeastern of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in China, desertification issue has become very severe. Remote sensing monitoring provides an effective technical means for desertification control. In this study, we used Landsat images in 2010 and 2020 to extract desertification information to constructed the Albedo-NDVI feature space in the Gonghe Basin. And then analyzed temporal and spatial evolution of desertification and its driving factors using Geodetector in the Gonghe Basin from 2010 to 2020. The main conclusions are as follows: (1) Albedo-NDVI feature space method can accurately classify desertification information with accuracy of more than 90%, which was benefit to quantitative analysis of desertification. (2) The desertification situation in the Gonghe Basin had improved from 2010 to 2020, especially in the west of the basin, desertification land area decreased by 827.46 km2, and desertification intensity had been obviously reversed. (3) The changes of the desertification in the Gonghe Basin from 2010 to 2020 was affected by both natural and human factors, and the influence of human activities on desertification reversal had increased gradually. The results indicate that the desertification status in the Gonghe Basin had been effectively controlled, and can provide useful basis for the desertification combat in the Gonghe Basin. The intake of each nutrient was calculated using the Chinese Food Composition Tables, by first multiplying the quantity (grams) of each food and beverage item consumed by their nutrient content per gram, and then adding the nutrient contributions from all food items. We also collected data on the intake of 110 food items by using a validated FFQ for most of the participants; this allowed us to explore the associations between intake of food items and nutrients, as well as dietary patterns and health outcomes. The signal measured by the maglev gyro sensor is sensitive to the influence of the instantaneous disturbance torque caused by the instantaneous strong wind or the ground vibration, which reduced the north-seeking accuracy of the instrument. To address this issue, we proposed a novel method combining the heuristic segmentation algorithm (HSA) and the two-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test (named HSA-KS method) to process the gyro signals and improve the north-seeking accuracy of the gyro. There were two key steps in the HSA-KS method: (i) all the potential change points were automatically and accurately detected by HSA, and (ii) the jumps in the signal caused by the instantaneous disturbance torque were quickly located and eliminated by the two-sample KS test. The effectiveness of our method was verified through a field experiment on a high-precision global positioning system (GPS) baseline at the 5th sub-tunnel of the Qinling water conveyance tunnel of the Hanjiang-to-Weihe River Diversion Project in Shaanxi Province, China. Our results from the autocorrelograms indicated that the jumps in the gyro signals can be automatically and accurately eliminated by the HSA-KS method. After processing, the absolute difference between the gyro and high-precision GPS north azimuths was enhanced by 53.5%, which was superior to the optimized wavelet transform and the optimized Hilbert-Huang transform. Since China announced its goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2060, carbon neutrality has become a major target in the development of China's urban agglomerations. This study applied the Future Land Use Simulation (FLUS) model to predict the land use pattern of the ecological space of the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration, in 2060 under ecological priority, agricultural priority and urbanized priority scenarios. The Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Trade-offs (InVEST) model was employed to analyse the spatial changes in ecological space carbon storage in each scenario from 2020 to 2060. Then, this study used a Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) model to determine the main driving factors that influence the changes in land carbon sinking capacity. The results of the study can be summarised as follows: firstly, the agricultural and ecological priority scenarios will achieve balanced urban expansion and environmental protection of resources in an ecological space. The urbanized priority scenario will reduce the carbon sinking capacity. Among the simulation scenarios for 2060, carbon storage in the urbanized priority scenario will decrease by 112.26 × 106 t compared with that for 2020 and the average carbon density will decrease by 0.96 kg/m2 compared with that for 2020. Carbon storage in the agricultural priority scenario will increase by 84.11 × 106 t, and the average carbon density will decrease by 0.72 kg/m2. Carbon storage in the ecological priority scenario will increase by 3.03 × 106 t, and the average carbon density will increase by 0.03 kg/m2. Under the premise that the population of the town will increases continuously, the ecological priority development approach may be a wise choice. Secondly, slope, distance to river and elevation are the most important factors that influence the carbon sink pattern of the ecological space in the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration, followed by GDP, population density, slope direction and distance to traffic infrastructure. At the same time, urban space expansion is the main cause of the changes of this natural factors. High-precision gravity measurements provide an invaluable approach for exploring the interior of the Earth by detecting geodynamic phenomena generated by different physical processes. China has established a very extensive and diverse gravity observation network, including high-precision superconducting gravimeters, gPhones, and other kinds of gravity instruments. The observational data accumulated from these instruments over a long period has facilitated important achievements in a variety of geodynamic applications. This paper briefly introduces some recently important research progress in background noise analysis, gravity tides, liquid core dynamics, hum signal, and normal mode detection based on China's gravity network and its cooperation with the international gravity network. Background: The accuracy of current prediction tools for venous thromboembolism (VTE) events following hernia surgery remains insufficient for individualized patient management strategies. To address this issue, we have developed a machine learning (ML)-based model to dynamically predict in-hospital VTE in Chinese patients after hernia surgery. Methods: ML models for the prediction of postoperative VTE were trained on a cohort of 11 305 adult patients with hernia from the CHAT-1 trial, which included patients across 58 institutions in China. In data processing, data imputation was conducted using random forest (RF) algorithm, and balanced sampling was done by adaptive synthetic sampling algorithm. Data were split into a training cohort (80%) and internal validation cohort (20%) prior to oversampling. Clinical features available pre-operatively and postoperatively were separately selected using the Sequence Forward Selection algorithm. Nine-candidate ML models were applied to the pre-operative and combined datasets, and their performance was evaluated using various metrics, including area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC). Model interpretations were generated using importance scores, which were calculated by transforming model features into scaled variables and representing them in radar plots. Results: The modeling cohort included 2856 patients, divided into 2536 cases for derivation and 320 cases for validation. Eleven pre-operative variables and 15 combined variables were explored as predictors related to in-hospital VTE. Acceptable-performing models for pre-operative data had an AUROC ≥ 0.60, including logistic regression, support vector machine with linear kernel (SVM_Linear), attentive interpretable Tabular learning (TabNet), and RF. For combined data, logistic regression, SVM_Linear, and TabNet had better performance, with an AUROC ≥ 0.65 for each model. Based on these models, 7 pre-operative predictors and 10 combined predictors were depicted in radar plots. Conclusions: A ML-based approach for the identification of in-hospital VTE events after hernia surgery is feasible. Urban freshwaters containing arsenic are facing an increasing problem of eutrophication. This study evaluated the spatial distribution, ecological risk, and origin of As in surface sediments obtained from Caohai Lake, a typical hypertrophic urban lake in China. It revealed that the total As concentration in surface sediments decreased gradually from north to south, consisted with the lake eutrophication status. The average As level was 161 mg/kg, dominated by reducible and oxidisable fractions. The analyses of geoaccumulation index and enrichment factor indicated that As ranged between moderately-to-heavily and heavily contamination, was severely influenced by anthropogenic factors, i.e. industrial discharges and agricultural activities. Risk assessment code and potential ecological risk index results showed moderate to high potential ecological risk could be observed although the current As risk was low, supporting by the experimentally quantified As release data. The impacts of vegetation restoration on the soil erosion have been widely elucidated in the semi-arid regions. However, the magnitude of soil erosion on abandoned sloping farmland still remained unclear and their responses to vegetation succession were rarely addressed. The main objective of this study is to determine the magnitude of soil erosion along vegetation succession and explore the impact of vegetation succession on soil erosion from abandoned sloping farmland. Field observations were employed to monitor the rainfall, runoff, and soil erosion of seven sloping farmland plots with different abandoned ages and bare land from 2015 to 2019. The results indicated that the annual runoff depth and soil erosion modulus of vegetation types were in the range of 0.46 to 5.49 mm·a−1 and 1.3 to 24.5 t·km−2·a−1, respectively. The vegetation effectively reduced the annual surface runoff and soil erosion with reduction of 73.8% to 97.8% and 98.0% to 99.9% as opposed to bare land. However, there were no significant differences in runoff and soil erosion for different vegetation types along succession. The largest event of vegetation types contributed to 38.7%–44.1% of the annual runoff and 42.5%–66.3% of the annual soil erosion, respectively. Vegetation restoration considerably alleviated the contribution of largest erosive event to annual soil erosion. The relationships between soil erosion, runoff and rainfall factors could be fitted well by linear functions, and the performances of regression models in predicting runoff were more satisfactory compared to predicting soil erosion. The Artemisia gmelinii (Agm) + Stipa bungeana (Sb) optimized the trade-off between sediment reduction and runoff maintenance, which should be selected as the suitable vegetation types to achieve the sustainability of socio-ecological systems. Episodic Neoproterozoic magmatic suites in the Altyn Tagh, NW China, are thought to be related break-up of the Rodinia supercontinent. These suites resulted from long-term extension of the lithosphere during orogenic collapse and subsequent rifting. New geochemical and U-Pb-Hf zircon data indicate that the 825 Ma Hongliugou granite displays the characteristics of A-type granites derived from a juvenile source. Gneissic granites (780–760 Ma) are characterized by high Rb (>200 × 10−6), low Zr/Hf (23.28–29.28) and low Nb/Ta (4.20–12.99) typical of highly fractionated granites. A diabase exhibits trace element patterns between OIB and E-MORB which we infer as derivation from an enriched asthenosphere mantle. Combined with previous reported ca. 850 Ma and 620 Ma extension-related magmatism in this region, we interpreted the Altyn Tagh sequences as part of a lengthy supercontinental break-up process. Neoproterozoic magmatism in the Altyn Tagh is broadly correlative with magmatism in East Kunlun and North Qaidam orogenic belts around the Qaidam basin. Collectively, the Qaidam block, exposed mainly in the Altyn Tagh, East Kunlun and North Qaidam, represents a succession of accretionary orogenic, postorogenic, and within plate magmatism between 1200 and 620 Ma. The similarity in age of magmatism and metamorphism in the Altyn Tagh-North Qaidam-East Kunlun regions indicate that these Precambrian sequences collectively represent the basement of Qaidam block. Duck short beak and dwarfism syndrome (SBDS) is a viral infectious disease caused by novel goose parvovirus (NGPV), which has been responsible for serious economic losses to the Chinese duck industry in recent years. Currently, there is no effective vaccine against this disease. In this study, we developed an inactivated virus vaccine candidate for SBDS based on NGPV strain DS15 isolated from a duck in China. Immune efficacy was evaluated in 112 ducks, which were randomly divided into vaccination, challenge-control, vaccination-challenge, and blank control groups (28 per group). Clinical characteristics, antibodies, virus excretion, viremia, and pathological changes were monitored. No morbidity or death was observed in the immunized ducks, which showed normal weight and a good mental state. High levels of serum antibodies (optical density at 450 nm of ~ 0.63) were detected in ducks immunized with the inactivated vaccine at 7 days post-vaccination (dpv), and the titer of virus-neutralizing antibodies increased from 1:23 to 1:28.5 from 7 to 42 dpv. Measurement of the viral load in anal swab, serum, and tissue samples showed that vaccination significantly inhibited the replication of NGPV in immunized ducks. Moreover, NGPV could not be isolated from the spleens of immunized or vaccinated and challenged ducks. Collectively, these results demonstrate that the newly developed inactivated NGPV vaccine, administered in an oil emulsion adjuvant, possesses good immunogenicity and represents a potentially powerful tool for SBDS prevention and control. Aims and objectives: To explore the role of health beliefs in affecting patients' chronic diabetic complication (CDC) screening. Background: Patients' adherence to the guideline‐recommended CDC screening was far from optimal. While many demographic and clinical characteristics were documented to influence patients' adherence, psychological profiles, such as health beliefs, were not well studied before. It is crucial to understand how health beliefs affect patients' CDC screening behaviour and thus to provide implications for future intervention programmes. Design: A cross‐sectional study was conducted. Methods: 785 type 2 diabetes were enrolled from the community health centre in Wuhou District, Chengdu, China. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data regarding the demographic and clinical information, knowledge about CDC, health belief model constructs and CDC screening behaviour. Mediation analysis was performed to explore the mechanisms of health belief model constructs on CDC screening behaviour. The study methods were compliant with the STROBE checklist. Results: Knowledge had a significant indirect effect on CDC screening behaviour through perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits, perceived barriers and self‐efficiency. Cues to action exerted both significant direct and indirect effects on CDC screening behaviour. The indirect effects of cues to action were exerted through perceived susceptibility, perceived barriers and self‐efficiency. Conclusion: Health beliefs played vital roles in mediating the effects of knowledge and cues to action on patients' CDC screening behaviour. Health beliefs should be assessed and modified through creative educational methods. Strategies aimed at increasing cues to action are also expected to facilitate patients' CDC screening behaviour. Relevance to clinical practices: The study contributes to the exploration of how health beliefs affect patients' CDC screening behaviour. Psoriasis is a common disease in dermatology, but its etiology and pathogenesis have not been fully elucidated. In recent years, researchers have found that HOX transcript antisense RNA (HOTAIR) plays an important role in biological processes as an important long-chain noncoding RNA (lncRNA). The goal of this study was to investigate the association between HOTAIR polymorphisms and psoriasis in a Chinese Han population by screening key candidate single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) sites in HOTAIR. A total of 269 patients diagnosed with psoriasis and 273 healthy control subjects were enrolled in this case-control study. Three SNPs of HOTAIR were genotyped: SNP1 (rs12826786), SNP2 (rs1899663), and SNP3 (rs4759314). All polymorphisms were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in both the control and patient groups, and the SNPs were in linkage disequilibrium. The distribution of the rs4759314 genotype in the control group and case group was statistically significant according to all the models except the recessive model (adjusted p value < 0.05), and the CCG haplotype group had a significant difference (OR 95 % CI = 2.907 1.344 − 6.289 , adjusted p value = 0.0263). rs12826786 was associated with a risk of psoriasis according to the dominant model (C/T-T/T vs. C/C: OR 95 % CI = 0.70 0.48 − 1.01 , adjusted p value = 0.049) and overdominant model (C/T vs. C/C-T/T: OR 95 % CI = 0.69 0.47 − 1.01 , adjusted p value = 0.048). The current work showed that a genomic variant within HOTAIR was associated with a risk of psoriasis, and the clinical value of this study should be further evaluated in the future. Background: Most deaths in China occur at home, making it difficult to collect reliable cause of death (CoD) information. Verbal autopsy (VA) was applied using the SmartVA tool to a sample of home deaths in China to explore its feasibility as a means of improving the quality of CoD data. Methods: The study was carried out in 22 districts in 9 provinces, located in north-east, central, and western areas of China during 2017 and 2018. Trained interviewers selected suitable respondents in each household to collect information using the Population Health Metrics Research Consortium (PHMRC) shortened and validated electronic VA questionnaire on tablets. The CoD was diagnosed from the interview data using the SmartVA-Analyze 2.0 software (Tariff 2.0). Results: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) dominated the leading causes of death in all age groups and for both sexes. After redistribution of undetermined causes, stroke (24%), ischemic heart diseases (IHD) (21%), chronic respiratory diseases (11%), and lung cancer (6%) were the leading causes of death. The cause fractions for level-one cause categories and ranking of specific causes were similar between SmartVA and results from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study. Conclusion: Evidence from this large pilot study suggests that SmartVA is a feasible and plausible tool and could be a valuable tool to improve the quality and standardization of CoD information across China. Background: 99mTc bone scintigraphy (BS) is still the most common approach for the evaluation of bone metastasis in China. The purpose of this study was to investigate the necessity of BS as part of a routine preoperative workup for patients with cT1N0 subsolid lung cancer. Methods: This was a prospective multicenter clinical trial (NCT03689439). Patients with cT1N0 subsolid nodules who were candidates for surgical resection were consecutively enrolled into the study. BS was performed preoperatively. The surgical plan could be changed if a positive result was detected. The primary endpoint was the incidence rate of the surgical plan being changed because of positive BS results. The secondary endpoint was the rate of positive BS findings and the rate of related complications. Results: From November 2018 to July 2019, 691 patients were enrolled into the study. None of the patients had positive BS results and no surgical plans were changed by BS findings. There were 222 male and 469 female patients. The average age was 54.8 ± 3.7 years old. The average tumor diameter was 14.9 ± 4.2 mm. There were 282 patients with pure GGO nodules and 409 with part‐solid nodules. A total of 470 patients had a single nodule, while 221 patients had multifocal lesions. The number of patients whose pathological diagnosis was invasive adenocarcinoma, minimally invasive adenocarcinoma, adenocarcinoma in situ and mucinous adenocarcinoma was 357, 293, 32 and nine, respectively. The number of patients who underwent lobectomy, segmentectomy and wedge resection was 234, 199 and 258, respectively. Conclusions: 99mTc bone scintigraphy is unnecessary in the preoperative workup for patients with cT1N0 subsolid lung cancer. Key points: Significant findings of the study: In this prospective study of 691 patients with cT1N0 subsolid lung cancer, no surgical plans were affected by positive bone scan findings. Introduction: This study explores the preference for daily versus on‐demand pre‐exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among men who have sex with men (MSM) in developing countries when both regimens are available. Methods: From 11 December 2018 to 19 October 2019, we recruited MSM for an open‐label real‐world PrEP demonstration study in four major cities in China. Subjects selected their preferred PrEP (oral tenofovir/emtricitabine) regimen (daily vs. on‐demand) at recruitment and underwent on‐site screening before initiation of PrEP. We used logistic regression to assess preference for daily PrEP and correlates. Results: Of 1933 recruited MSM, the median age was 29 years, 7.6% was currently married to or living with a female; the median number of male sexual partners was four and 6.1% had used post‐exposure prophylaxis (PEP) in the previous six months. HIV infection risk was subjectively determined as very high (>75%) in 7.0% of subjects, high (50% to 75%) in 13.3%, moderate (25% to 49%) in 31.5% and low or none (0% to 24%) in 48.1%. On average, participants preferred on‐demand PrEP over daily PrEP (1104 (57.1%) versus 829 (42.9%)) at recruitment. In multivariable analysis, currently being married to or living with a female was associated with 14.6 percentage points lower preference for daily PrEP (marginal effect = −0.146 [95% CI: −0.230, −0.062], p = 0.001); whereas the number of male sexual partners (marginal effect = 0.003 [95% CI: 0.000, 0.005], p = 0.034) and a subjective assessment of being very high risk of HIV infection (vs. low and no risk, marginal effect size = 0.105 [95% CI: 0.012, 0.198], p = 0.027) were associated with increased preference for daily versus on‐demand PrEP. Among the 1933 potential participants, 721 (37.3%) did not attend the subsequent on‐site screening. Lower‐income, lower education level, lower subjective expected risk of HIV infection risk and younger age positively correlated with the absence of on‐site screening. Conclusions: MSM in China prefer both daily and on‐demand PrEP when both regimens are provided free. Social structural factors and subjective risk of HIV infection have significant impacts on PrEP preference and use. Background: Many studies have suggested that the clinical features of male patients with ischemic stroke are different from those of female patients, but related data on Chinese patients are scarce. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the differences in treatment delays, complications related to intravenous thrombolysis, and prognosis between male and female patients with ischemic stroke in China. Methods: The data of patients with ischemic stroke who received intravenous thrombolysis were retrospectively analyzed. The data were obtained from the China Hospital Stroke Registry from January 2017 to April 2019. The general clinical characteristics, onset-to-door time, door-to-needle time, complications related to thrombolysis, National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores, and in-hospital mortality were compared between male and female patients to identify any sex differences in these factors. A multi-factorial analysis was conducted to explore whether sex is associated with in-hospital mortality and complications of intracerebral hemorrhage after thrombolysis. Results: A total of 26,475 patients with ischemic stroke who received intravenous thrombolysis were involved in the study. The data were collected from 902 hospitals in 29 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in China. The door-to-needle time was longer in female than in male patients (49 [35, 67] vs. 48 [35, 65], P = 0.008). Furthermore, the frequencies of intracerebral hemorrhage (4.1 vs. 3.2%, P < 0.001) and in-hospital mortality (2.55 vs. 1.83%, P < 0.001) were higher in female vs. male patients. However, sex was not associated with intracerebral hemorrhage and in-hospital mortality according to the adjusted multi-factorial analysis. In addition, improvement in NIHSS scores was greater in female patients than in male patients [−3 (−6, −1) vs. −3 (−5, −1), P = 0.036]. Conclusions: After adjusting for other predictors sex was not associated with intracerebral hemorrhage after thrombolysis or in-hospital mortality. Jian-pi-bu-xue-formula (JPBXF), a TCM formula composed of twelve Chinese medicinal herbs, has been used in clinic to ease patients' state of weakness and fatigue especially after receiving anti-tumor chemotherapy in China. The lack of the phytochemical characterization, detail therapeutic evaluation and mechanism of JPBXF remains the main limitation for its spreading. In this study, we systematically evaluated the effectiveness and underline mechanism of JPBXF on cyclophosphamide (CTX)-induced myelosuppression and identified the main constituents of JPBXF aqueous extract. JPBXF treatments reversed CTX-induced myelosuppression through increasing the number of haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and expression of C-kit in bone marrow cells. Simultaneously, JPBXF treatments alleviated CTX-induced blood cells reduction by increasing numbers of RBCs and WBCs and levels of GM-CSF, TPO and EPO in plasma. JPBXF treatments reduced CTX-induced immunosuppression by increasing expressions of CD3, CD4, and CD8a in PBMCs, and recovering structure damages of thymus and spleen. Moreover, JPBXF notably increased the expression of NRF2 compared with CTX group, and subsequently up-regulated HO1 and NQO1 both in mRNA and protein levels. In addition, eighteen compounds were recognized from JPBXF aqueous extract and the potential targets of the identified compounds were predicted. Overall, JPBXF can greatly reverse CTX-induced myelosuppression in C57BL/6 mice, especially in improving the blood and immune function through activating NRF2/HO1/NQO1 signaling pathway, which provides a reliable reference for JPBXF application in clinical. By recognizing eighteen compounds in JPBXF aqueous extract and predicting the underline mechanisms of the identified compounds, our study would provide theoretical guidance for further research of JPBXF. Background: Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective biomedical strategy to prevent transmission of HIV infection, although medication adherence remains a challenge. We present the protocol for a multicentre randomised controlled trial to measure the effectiveness of a real-time monitoring and just-in-time intervention on medication adherence among PrEP users in China.Methods: Study participants will include 1000 men who have sex with men (MSM) from four cites in China (Shenyang, Beijing, Chongqing and Shenzhen) attending a tenofovir disoproxil fumarate/emtricitabine (TDF/FTC) PrEP project as part of a real-world, prospective multicentre cohort study (CROPrEP). Participants will be randomised into the intervention and control arms in a 1:1 ratio. Participants in the intervention arm will be provided with remote real-time monitoring equipment that triggers twice just-in-time SMS (Short Messaging Service) medication reminders to PrEP users every half an hour when a scheduled dosage is missed, and followed with just-in-time SMS medication reminders to clinicians half an hour when there is no supplement after the second just-in-time SMS reminder to PrEP users. Clinicians will initiate individualised telephone intervention as soon as possible upon receipt of the just-in-time SMS missed dose alert. Those in the control arm will only receive generic weekly SMS reminders. The study will last 6 months. Participants will be seen at follow-up visits at three and 6 months. Trial outcomes to be measured include self-reported adherence assessed via questionnaire and pill counts, as well as drug concentration test results.Discussion: Medication adherence is critical to achieve optimal benefits from PrEP. This study will be the first individualised behaviour intervention using real-time technology to increase adherence among MSM PrEP users globally. Background: Mesoamerican nephropathy (MeN) is a pattern of chronic kidney disease (CKD) prevalent among Central American men who work in agriculture, and its underlying cause has not been elucidated. Currently, experts hypothesize that MeN is related to repeated episodes of occupational heat stress leading to water loss and hence it is also called dehydration-associated CKD.Case Presentation: We report a case of a 40-year-old man, whose first admission to Peking Union Medical College Hospital was due to acute kidney injury (AKI). The clinical and pathological processes were consistent with acute tubular necrosis (ATN). However, after full recovery, CKD developed 1 year later. The second renal biopsy showed characteristics of ischemic renal disease but there was no evidence of vascular disease. It is worth noting that the patient had been taking part in long-distance running without drinking adequate water for years, which would have markedly decrease his renal blood flow. Thus, this patient may have developed chronic dehydration-associated kidney disease sharing the similar etiology of MeN.Conclusions: We report here a case of dehydration-associated CKD in a Chinese patient which shared similar etiology to MeN. Liriomyza (Diptera: Agromyzidae) is genus of insects found worldwide. Among the species in this genus, L. sativae , L. huidobrensis , L. trifolii , and L. bryoniae are the four most globally invasive, with L. chinensis being native to China. Real-time and accurate monitoring is a prerequisite for reducing the spread and crop damage caused by this pest. Owing to the small size of Liriomyza , specialized technicians using a microscope are needed to identify them. We developed an intelligent field investigation system to conveniently and accurately identify these five species. The system includes a portable image acquisition device based on a smartphone, a deep learning-based image recognition model for Liriomyza , and a mobile platform-based investigation application. To capture magnified images of Liriomyza , we designed a magnifying lens and a rotatable carrier assembled outside the smartphone camera. To address the problem of local blurring in images captured by smartphones, all images were sharpened to enhance their features. To accurately distinguish these five species from similar species, we developed a SeResNet- Liriomyza model, which embeds spatial feature pyramid networks (SFPN) in the SeResNet model to prevent the false positives caused by different sizes of input images and generate new feature maps favorable for classification by combining global and local image features. Compared with the excellent classification models, DenseNet-201, ResNeXt-50, MobileNet-v3, EfficientNet-B4, and ResNeSt-101, SeResNet- Liriomyza showed excellent recognition performance, with an average recognition accuracy of 99.88%. We designed and developed a mobile application (app) for the intelligent investigation of Liriomyza. The app includes functions such as intelligent investigation, intelligent recognition, a biological dictionary, and investigation result retrieval. The proposed intelligent field investigation system provides investigators with a fast, convenient, and accurate tool for investigating Liriomyza , a pest that can cause serious damage to agriculture in the field. This study employed a data envelopment analysis (DEA) by using slacks-based measure (SBM) with undesirable outputs to assess the industrial environmental efficiency of western China during the period of 2001–2015. The Malmquist index was further used to examine the changes in the industrial environmental efficiency of the analyzed region. The result showed that western China presented a low industrial environmental efficiency throughout the period of 2001–2015. Chongqing City was the only province that exhibited strong economic and environmental coordination. The level of technical development was identified as a key determinant of industrial environmental efficiency. This study provided policy implications on emissions reduction and the improvement of industrial efficiency. Limitations of the approach were provided to lay foundation for future studies. Purpose: To control the severe soil and water losses on the Loess Plateau, China, a series of vegetation restoration projects were conducted. A better understanding of the effect of vegetation types on the soil infiltration capacity is important for the sustainable development of vegetation restoration. The aim of this study was to establish a soil infiltration capacity index (SIC) and to analyze the mechanism influencing variations in the soil infiltration capacity after vegetation restoration on the Loess Plateau.Materials and methods: Eight vegetation types (community dominated by Artemisia scoparia, Stipa bungeana, Artemisia gmelinii + S. bungeana, A. gmelinii + Stipa grandis, A. gmelinii + Artemisia giraldii, Sophora viciifolia, Caragana korshinskii, and Robinia pseudoacacia) and bare land as the control were selected for this study. The SIC was established by a steady infiltration rate (SR, 50-60 min) and stage I average infiltration rate (ARSI, 0-5 min) according to principal component analysis (PCA). Path analysis was used to investigate how the soil properties and plant fine root affected the soil infiltration capacity.Results and discussion: The SIC values of the eight vegetation types were all higher than that of the bare land. The R. pseudoacacia community had the highest SIC value (0.43), followed by the A. scoparia community (0.30) while the bare land (− 0.56) had the lowest value. Path analysis showed that the increase in the fractal dimension and non-capillary porosity of soil particles enhanced the SIC directly. Increases in the clay content increased the SIC by affecting the fractal dimension of soil particles, while increases in the fine root density reduced the SIC by affecting the non-capillary porosity. Plant functional groups (grasses and legumes) affected SIC indirectly via non-capillary porosity and plant root.Conclusions: A comprehensive index, the SIC, was established to describe the soil infiltration capacity by the PCA method. Based on a comparison with bare land, vegetation restoration enhanced the soil infiltration capacity. The R. pseudoacacia community was the most effective at improving the soil infiltration capacity. A hazard is often spatially local in a network system, but its impact can spread out through network topology and become global. To qualitatively and quantitatively assess the impact of spatially local hazards on network systems, this article develops a new spatial vulnerability model by taking into account hazard location, area covered by hazard, and impact of hazard (including direct impact and indirect impact), and proposes an absolute spatial vulnerability index (ASVI) and a relative spatial vulnerability index (RSVI). The relationship between the new model and some relevant traditional network properties is also analyzed. A case study on the spatial vulnerability of the Chinese civil aviation network system is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the model, and another case study on the Beijing subway network system to verify its relationship with traditional network properties. Purpose: HOX transcript antisense RNA (HOTAIR) plays important roles in carcinogenesis of various kinds of malignant tumors, including lung cancer. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in HOTAIR were reported to be associated with susceptibility of several kinds of cancers. The present study assessed the associations between three SNPs (rs4759314, rs12826786, and rs920778) and lung cancer susceptibility, as well as gene–environment interaction between smoking exposure and the polymorphisms. Patients and methods: A case–control study including 551 patients and 543 healthy controls was performed. The associations between SNPs and lung cancer susceptibility were assessed by logistic regression model. Results: rs4759314 was observed to increase the susceptibility of lung cancer, lung adenocarcinoma, squamous lung cancer, and small cell lung cancer statistically significantly (OR of 4.048 for lung cancer; 3.584 for lung adenocarcinoma; 4.671 for squamous lung cancer; 4.502 for small cell lung cancer). In stratified analysis for sex and smoking exposure, rs4759314 GG and AG genotype was also observed to increase the risk of lung cancer statistically significantly (OR of 5.221 for male; 3.491 for female; 3.653 for nonsmoking individuals; 4.458 for smoking individuals). Results of gene–environment interaction analysis showed that there was no interaction between smoking exposure and rs4759314 on additive scale. Results of logistic regression model suggested that the interaction between smoking and rs4759314 was statistically significant on multiplicative scale. rs12826786 CT genotype carriers and T allele could decrease the risk of developing lung cancer (OR of 0.751 for CT carriers; 0.785 for T allele), and in dominant model, TC and TT genotype carriers also have a 0.249-fold decrease risk compared with CC genotype carriers. In stratified analysis for smoking exposure, TC and TT have a 0.432-fold decreased risk compared with CC genotype carriers. Based on the monthly data of 12 months in 30 major cities and combined with the monthly data of the air quality index (AQI) in 30 major cities, this paper analyzed the quality of human settlements in 2015 with the ArcGIS spatial analysis method. On the basis of the quality of air in this analysis, the coupling degree of the five great systems in these human settlements was also calculated. The finding shows that (1) according to the spatial distribution of the human settlements quality index in the main cities, the quality of urban human settlements was gradually decreased from the coastal regions to northwest inland regions, presenting an overall look that the quality was high in the south and low in the north, which converged to the change of the air quality; (2) the human settlements quality index apparently changed with season variation. A significant difference was found in the fourth quarter, and the biggest deviation among cities in China was up to 0.680, while the smallest deviation in the second quarter was 0.448; and (3) on the basis of factors that influenced the quality index, related kinds of norms in the main cities were built in the five great systems of human settlements, and the evaluated coupling degree between the five systems was at the antagonistic stage. Biogas digesters have recently been used as an alternative cooking fuel for some rural families in China. Biogas production by digesters is considerably affected by fermentation temperature. Soar energy can be used to improve the biogas production rates in winter in cold climate zone of China. A thermal balance model is developed to compute the fermentation temperature by ambient temperature and solar radiation for simple sunlight greenhouse assisted biogas project, a series of field experiments on a biogas project in Xuzhou, China was conducted to investigate the thermal performance of biogas digesters and to validate the model, the average temperature rise between the inside and ambient is over 10 °C in winter. Land use has obvious influence on surface water quality; thus, it is important to understand the effects of land use patterns on surface water quality. This study explored the relationships between land use patterns and stream nutrient levels, including ammonium-N (NH-N), nitrate-N (NO-N), total N (TN), dissolved P (DP), and total P (TP) concentrations, in one forest and 12 agricultural catchments in subtropical central China. The results indicated that the TN concentrations ranged between 0.90 and 6.50 mg L and the TP concentrations ranged between 0.08 and 0.53 mg L, showing that moderate nutrient pollution occurred in the catchments. The proportional areal coverages of forests, paddy fields, tea fields, residential areas, and water had distinct effects on stream nutrient levels. Except for the forest, all studied land use types had a potential to increase stream nutrient levels in the catchments. The land use pattern indices at the landscape level were significantly correlated to N nutrients but rarely correlated to P nutrients in stream water, whereas the influence of the land use pattern indices at the class level on stream water quality differentiated among the land use types and nutrient species. Multiple regression analysis suggested that land use pattern indices at the class level, including patch density (PD), largest patch index (LPI), mean shape index (SHMN), and mean Euclidian nearest neighbor distance (ENNMN), played an intrinsic role in influencing stream nutrient quality, and these four indices explained 35.08 % of the variability of stream nutrient levels in the catchments ( p<0.001). Abstract: In order to obtain higher resolution for neutron radiography with thicker organic materials, neutron radiography with several hundred keV neutrons has been investigated. The experiments were carried out at the 4.5 MV Van de Graaff at Peking University. The 7Li(p, n) 7Be reaction was chosen to produce several hundred keV neutrons. A thin 6Li-based neutron converter was utilized in the experiment. The results showed that radiography with several hundred keV neutrons has greater penetration than thermal neutron radiography. Abstract: Aims: To systematically review trends in diabetes mellitus (DM) prevalence in adults in China over the last 10 years and to identify the determinants of these trends. Methods: A systematic search was conducted for studies published between 2000 and 2010. Studies reporting DM prevalence were included if they met the pre-determined criteria. The prevalence estimates and reported determinants of these studies were compared. Results: Twenty-five manuscripts, reporting on 22 studies, were selected for inclusion in the review. There has been an increase in DM prevalence from 2.6% to 9.7% in China over the past decade. DM prevalence is strongly associated with age and is higher in urban residents compared with rural populations. Some studies found a difference in DM prevalence between males and females, but this finding was not consistent. Other commonly reported associations with DM included family history, obesity and hypertension. Conclusion: Over the period of 2000–2010, we identify a significant increase in DM prevalence at the national level. It is important for all levels of government to develop more effective strategies to prevent and manage this rising diabetes epidemic. There is also an important need for more large-scale studies of diabetes in the western and central regions of China. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
