The demand‐side DC electricity‐using equipment and newly integrated renewables are driving the transformation of power distribution and utilization mode. The building system based on DC technology is emerging as a promising option. In the low‐voltage DC building distribution and utilization system (LVDCBDUS), global energy optimization management and operational control arrangement are key components. To obtain exemplary achievements of those, two different DC building energy management system (DC BEMS) integration schemes are investigated according to the respective features and application‐required functions of various system networking structures. Centralized and decentralized control strategies are presented and discussed for buildings with AC–DC transformation and newly built LVDCBDUSs. On this basis, the centralized DC BEMS and operational control strategy are applied to the first multi‐scenario low‐carbon city‐based future building project—Shenzhen IBR Future Complex. The operation data are recorded and analysed. Problems encountered during the implementation are summarized, and requirements of converter equipment, new technologies and marketization are further discussed to promote the high‐quality development of the LVDCBDUS. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are now the leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide，resulting in a large global economic burden. Recently, complementary and alternative medicine, such as traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have received great attention. Puerarin (Pue) is an isoflavone isolated from the roots of Pueraria lobata (Willd.) Ohwi (also named "Ge gen" in China), and is a versatile TCM herb used for the treatment of fever, diarrhea, diabetes mellitus CVDs and cerebrovascular diseases. Numerous lines ofin vitro studies, as well as in vivo animal experiments have established that Pue offers beneficial roles against the progression of atherosclerosis, ischemic heart diseases, heart failure hypertension and arrhythmia by inhibiting pathological processes, such as the mitigation of endothelium injury, protection against inflammation, the disturbance of lipid metabolism, protection against ischemic reperfusion injury, anti-myocardial remodeling and other effects. Here, we provide a systematic overview of the pharmacological actions and molecular targets of Pue in cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment, to provide insights into the therapeutic potential of Pue in treating cardiovascular diseases. Atropanthe sinensis Pascher (genus Atropanthe, family Solanaceae) is an endangered and medical important plant of China. Here, we report the complete plastome of A. sinensis, which was found to be 156,565 bp in length and encodes 114 annotated known unique genes, including 80 protein-coding genes, 4 ribosomal RNAs, and 30 transfer RNAs. Among them, 10 coding genes contained one intron each and two genes (clpP and ycf3) contained two introns each. The result of the phylogenetic analysis showed that genera Scopolia and Przewalskia were placed as sister groups to the Atropanthe. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To evaluate the association between high myopia (HM) and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in collagen, type XI, alpha 1 (COL11A1) and collagen, type XVIII, alpha 1 (COL18A1) genes in a Han Chinese population. Materials and Methods: A total of 869 patients with HM and 804 controls were recruited for this study. The genotyping of five SNPs in COL11A1 and COL18A1 was performed using the SNaPshot method. The genotyping data were analyzed using the χ2 test, and the linkage disequilibrium block structure was calculated and examined by Haploview software. Results: No statistically significant differences (p > 0.05) were identified between HM cases and controls after a Bonferroni correction for multiple tests in the allele frequencies of COL11A1 and COL18A1 SNPs. However, the G allele of rs2236475 showed a susceptible effect for HM (p = 0.016, corrected p = 0.08, odds ratio [OR] = 1.26). Moreover, the carriers of rs2236475GG genotype displayed an increased risk of HM compared with the rs2236475AA and rs2236475AG+AA genotypes (p = 0.008, OR = 1.79, confidence interval [95% CI] = 1.18–2.64, uncorrected; p = 0.012, OR = 1.74, 95% CI = 1.12–2.57, corrected, respectively). Conclusions: Our results suggested that common polymorphisms in these two candidate genes were unlikely to play major roles in the genetic susceptibility to HM. Nevertheless, to avoid filtering real myopia genes, the role of COL11A1 and COL18A1 in the pathogenesis of myopia requires more refinement in both animal models and human genetic epidemiological studies. Background: Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a group of inherited retinal diseases that result in severe progressive visual impairment., Aims: The purpose of this article was to apply targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) to identify the causative mutation in a Chinese RP family., Methods: Blood samples were collected from a Chinese proband diagnosed with RP and her family members. A total of 163 genes that have been previously found to be involved in inherited retinal diseases were selected for NGS. Rigorous NGS data analysis; Sanger sequencing validation; and segregation analysis were applied to evaluate a novel frameshift mutation., Results: Sequence analysis revealed that the proband and her affected sister both carried a novel homozygous frameshift mutation in MERTK (p.I103Nfs*4). Other family members carrying a heterozygous mutation were unaffected. This mutation was found to cosegregate with the disease phenotype in this family. This mutation was not found in 1,000 control individuals., Conclusions: The targeted NGS strategy employed provides an efficient tool for RP pathogenic gene detection. This study identified a new autosomal recessive mutation in the RP-related gene MERTK, which expands the spectrum of RP disease-causing mutations.

Familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR) is a hereditary eye disease characterized by defects in the development of retinal vessels. However, known genetic mutations can only explain approximately 50% of FEVR patients. To assess the mutation frequency of Frizzled 4 (FZD4) in Chinese patients, we analysed patients with FEVR from 61 families from China to identify mutations in FZD4 and to study the effects of identified mutations on FZD4 function. All coding exons and adjacent intronic regions of FZD4 were amplified by polymerase chain reaction and subjected to Sanger sequencing analysis. Three mutations in the FZD4 gene were identified in these families. Of these, two were novel mutations: p.E134* and p.T503fs. Both mutations involve highly conserved residues and were not present in 800 normal individuals. Each of these two novel FZD4 mutations was introduced into wild-type FZD4 cDNA by site-directed mutagenesis. Wild-type and mutant FZD4 DNAs were introduced into HEK293 cells to analyse the function of FZD4 in Norrin-dependent activation of the Norrin/β-catenin pathway using luciferase reporter assays. Both the p.E134* and p.T503fs mutants failed to induce luciferase reporter activity in response to Norrin. Our study identified two novel FZD4 mutations in Chinese patients with FEVR.

Nitric oxide (NO) is an important messenger molecule and effector molecule. This study aimed to investigate the relation of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) gene polymorphism with ischemic stroke in Han Chinese of North China. This was a case-control study. A total of 413 patients with ischemic stroke were recruited from Han Chinese of North China. There were 201 males and 212 females. In addition, 477 healthy subjects served as controls including 224 males and 253 females. Multiplex SNaPshot was employed to detect nNOS gene polymorphism (rs2293050, rs2139733, rs7308402, and rs1483757). Results showed that the rs1483757, rs2139733, and rs2293050 genotypes and allele frequencies were comparable between patients and controls. However, ischemic stroke patients had significantly reduced AG genotype and A allele frequency when compared with controls (P = 0.037, P = 0.041). After adjusting confounding factors (gender, age, smoking, history of drinking, hypertension, and diabetes), AG genotype and A allele were still related to ischemic stroke (OR = 0.572, 95% CI: 0.335-0.978, P = 0.041; OR = 0.611, 95% C: 0.378-0.985, and P = 0.041) and both were found to be protective factors. Our results showed that rs7308402 gene polymorphism of nNOS is related to ischemic stroke in Han Chinese of North China.

In order to ascertain the invasive mechanism and control strategy of the invasive Crofton weed, Ageratina adenophora, its ecological adaptability and population differentiation, the formation of single dominant population, displacement of native plants and sustainable management strategies were investigated. The present results helped to clarify and explain such issues as the adaptability post invasion, interaction and competition between inter- and intra-species and community resistance, thereby providing important references to researches on other invasive alien species.
