Background: Identifying practical and distinguished indicators and influencing factors of male aging may be useful in predicting subsequent aging trends, designing personalized prevention, and improving lifestyle and health.Methods: A cross-sectional, population-based study was performed in Jiashan County, China in 2016. A total of 690 local male residents, aged 40 to 80 years, were eligible for recruitment. Demographic and lifestyle information was collected through structured interviews. A self-designed head scale, the Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short Form (SF-36), International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF5), Aging Males' Symptoms (AMS), and International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) were used. Analysis of variance, local polynomial regression smoothing curves, multiple linear regression, and partial correlation analyses were performed.Results: All the scales deteriorated with increasing age (P < 0.01), especially from the age of 60. The most significant changes between adjacent age groups were found in IIEF5 scores (16.7, 43.5 and 39.4%). Income, nutrition, personality and neighborhood relationship had an effect on SF-36 and AMS after adjusting for age (P < 0.01). Furthermore, neighborhood relationship modified the age effect on the head scale score and IIEF5 (P = 0.03); nutrition modified the relationship between age and SF-36 (P < 0.01).Conclusions: Recession of reproductive health may be a distinct predictor of male aging. The associations of social inequalities or personality and health offer potential interventions for men's health in aging. Self-reported scales may limit the precision and more physical fitness tests could be combined for a more precise assessment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction Some factors associated with the four premature ejaculation ( PE) syndromes have been studied, but the association between International Prostate Symptom Score ( IPSS) and the four PE syndromes has not been investigated. Aims We performed this study to evaluate the association between IPSS and intravaginal ejaculatory latency time ( IELT) in men with the four PE syndromes. Methods From June 2012 to January 2014, a total of 690 men aged 40-59 years complaining of ejaculating prematurely and another 452 male healthy subjects of the same age without these complaints were included in this study. Men with the complaints of ejaculating prematurely were classified as one of the four PE syndromes: lifelong PE, acquired PE ( APE), variable PE, and subjective PE. Each of them completed a detailed questionnaire including information on demographics, medical and sexual history (e.g., self-estimated IELT), IPSS, and International Index of Erectile Function-5. Main Outcome Measures Associations between IPSS and self-estimated IELT in middle-aged men with the four PE syndromes. Results Men complaining of ejaculating prematurely reported higher IPSS (11.2 ± 6.0 vs. 5.5 ± 3.3 ) and shorter self-estimated IELT (2.1 ± 1.6 minutes vs. 4.8 ± 3.3) than men without complaints ( P < 0.001 for each). By unilabiate analysis, self-estimated IELT in men with the four PE syndromes showed significant correlations with IPSS ( P < 0.001 for all). After adjusting for age, self-estimated IELT was negatively associated with IPSS in men with PE complaints (adjusted r = −0.378, P < 0.001). Also, the association was stronger in men with APE (adjusted r = −0.502, P < 0.001). Conclusions Men complaining of ejaculating prematurely reported worse IPSS than men without these complaints. Self-estimated IELT was negatively associated with IPSS in men complaining of ejaculating prematurely, and the correlation was the strongest in men with APE. Aim: The efficacy and safety profiles of two α1-adrenoceptor antagonists, doxazosin gastrointestinal therapeutic system, a controlled-release formulation of doxazosin, and tamsulosin, were compared in Chinese men with confirmed benign prostatic hyperplasia. Methods: After a 2-week placebo run-in phase, 117 patients were randomized to daily treatment with doxazosin gastrointestinal therapeutic system (4 mg doxazosin) ( n = 60) or 0.2 mg tamsulosin ( n = 57) for 6 weeks with no titration of study medications. Efficacy was measured by the International Prostate Symptom Score, maximum urinary flow rate, postvoid residual urine volume, and quality-of-life score from the International Prostate Symptom Score. Adverse events were recorded. Results: Both drugs significantly improved the International Prostate Symptom Score (total, irritative subscore and obstructive subscore) and maximum urinary flow rate. Doxazosin gastrointestinal therapeutic system reduced postvoid residual urine volume significantly more than tamsulosin (−25 ± 5 mL vs 2 ± 5 mL, P = 0.041) in patients with residual volume >0 mL at baseline. Other differences between groups were not statistically significant. Conclusions: The doxazosin gastrointestinal therapeutic system and tamsulosin were effective and well tolerated for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia in Chinese men. The objective of this study was to evaluate association between body mass index (BMI) and prostate volume (PV), international prostate symptom scores (IPSS), maximum urinary flow rate ( Q max ), and post-void residual (PVR) of Chinese benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) patients. All newly diagnosed BPH patients between September 2016 and August 2018 were selected and 788 patients were included. According to BMI, the patients were categorized into four groups, while according to PV, IPSS, Q max , and PVR, they were categorized into two groups based on clinical significant cutoffs. Univariable and multivariable logistic regressions and a restricted cubic spline (RCS) were applied to explore the relationship of BMI with categorical PV, IPSS, Q max , and PVR. Compared with normal BMI, obesity presented significant association with increased risk of larger PV (>80 ml) in both unadjusted and adjusted models (unadjusted odds ratio [OR] = 1.772, 95% CI [1.201, 2.614], p = .004; adjusted OR = 1.912, 95% CI [1.212, 3.017], p = .005); however, underweight or overweight did not present a significant connection with such risk. No significant effect was identified for BMI on IPSS, Q max , or PVR in either unadjusted or adjusted model. Nonlinear test including BMI using RCS and adjusting for confounders showed no significance ( p > .05); however, a significant linear relationship was ascertained between BMI and the risk of larger PV ( p < .001). In conclusion, there was a significant linear association between BMI and the risk of larger PV in BPH patients. Hence, this suggests urologists should consider both BMI and PV when providing surgical treatment for BPH patients.
