Background: Glycemic control for patients with diabetes in the surgical department is often unsatisfactory. Compounding this issue is the fact that conventional glucose management models are often inefficient and difficult to monitor over time. Objective: To investigate the impact of inpatient glucose team-based management on glycemic control and hospital days in surgical patients with diabetes. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 4156 patients with diabetes in the surgical department who received inpatient management of diabetes at a tertiary medical center from June 2020 to May 2022. Based on whether they received inpatient glucose team-based management, the surgical patients with diabetes were divided into two groups: the inpatient glucose team-based management (GM group, consisting of 1698 participants) and the conventional blood glucose management group (control group, consisting of 2458 participants). We compared the two groups in terms of glycemic control, hospital days, and health-care costs. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to build the hospital days prediction model and nomogram. Finally, the performance of the model was evaluated. Results: The rate of glucose detection was higher in the GM group at 2 h postprandial (P < 0.01). The incidence of hypoglycemia and severe hyperglycemia, blood glucose attainment time, pre-operative preparation days, hospital days, and health-care costs were lower in the GM group than in the control group (P < 0.01). The linear regression model revealed that blood glucose attainment time, incidence of hypoglycemia (< 3.9mmol/L), preoperative preparation days, perioperative complications, and health-care costs were the factors influencing the hospital days (Total Point 83.4 points, mean hospital days 9.37 days). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis demonstrated that the nomogram had good accuracy for predicting hospital days (area under the ROC curve 0.83, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.74 to 0.92). Conclusion: Inpatient glucose team-based management demonstrated significant improvements in glycemic control among surgical patients with diabetes, resulting in reduced hospital days and associated costs. Soil nitrogen (N) availability plays an important role in regulating priming effects (PE). In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of long-term N fertilization on PE under single and more frequent additions of labile carbon (C) inputs (13C-labeled glucose). The soils collected from a 6-year-long inorganic N fertilization experiment in a subtropical Phyllostachys edulis forest in China were incubated at a constant temperature of 25 °C for 90 days. Regardless of the mode of glucose addition, the cumulative primed C was lower in the previously fertilized soil and showed a positive relationship with soil pH and peroxidase activity. When comparing the amount of cumulative primed C and the remaining added glucose-C after 90 days of incubation, the fertilized soil had a higher net C increase than the control. These results indicate that atmospheric N deposition and N fertilization might reduce the PE caused by labile organic matter inputs, thereby increasing soil organic C sequestration. The effect of N fertilization on PE under a single glucose addition (reduced by 11%) was smaller than that of repeated additions (reduced by 24%). Previously fertilized soil with a single glucose addition exhibited higher microbial P deficiency, which had a negative impact on PE; in contrast, in soil with repeated glucose additions, higher abundance of Gram-positive bacteria contributed to the negative PE. As such, the frequency of glucose addition affects the intensity and regulation of soil PE. Regardless of the N fertilization treatment, soil with a single glucose addition exhibited stronger PE but lower soil net C increases than those with repeated additions, which might be related to higher microbial activities. Objective: The relationship between the non-high-density lipoprotein to high-density lipoprotein ratio (non-HDL-c/HDL-c ratio) and changes in glycemic status as well as the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has been well established. However, there is a lack of evidence concerning the association between the non-HDL-c/HDL-c ratio and the reversal of normoglycemia in individuals with impaired fasting glucose (IFG). Therefore, this study aimed to examine the connection between the non-HDL-c/HDL-c ratio and the likelihood of reverting to normoglycemia among people with IFG. Methods: This retrospective cohort study examined data collected from 15,524 non-selective participants with IFG at the Rich Healthcare Group in China between January 2010 and 2016. The Cox proportional-hazards regression model was used to investigate the connection between the baseline non-HDL-c/HDL-c ratio and the probability of reverting to normoglycemia. We were able to discover the non-linear association between the non-HDL-c/HDL-c ratio and reversion to normoglycemia using a Cox proportional hazards regression model with cubical spline smoothing. We also performed several sensitivity and subgroup analyses. A competing risk multivariate Cox regression was utilized as well to examine the development to diabetes as a competing risk for the reversal of normoglycemic events. Results: In our study, a total of 15,524 individuals participated, with a mean age of 50.9 ± 13.5 years, and 64.7% were male. The average baseline non-HDL-c/HDL-c ratio was 2.9 ± 0.9. Over a median follow-up period of 2.9 years, we observed a reversion rate to normoglycemia of 41.8%. After adjusting for covariates, our findings revealed a negative association between the non-HDL-c/HDL-c ratio and the likelihood of reverting to normoglycemia (HR = 0.71, 95% CI 0.69–0.74). Notably, we identified a non-linear relationship between the non-HDL-c/HDL-c ratio and the probability of transitioning from IFG to normoglycemia. We found an inflection point at a non-HDL-c/HDL-c ratio of 3.1, with HRs of 0.63 (95% CI 0.69, 0.74) on the left side and 0.78 (95% CI 0.74, 0.83) on the right side of the point. Competing risks multivariate Cox's regression, sensitivity analysis, and subgroup analysis consistently supported our robust results. Conclusion: Our study has revealed a negative and non-linear relationship between the non-HDL-c/HDL-c ratio and reversion to normoglycemia in Chinese people with IFG. Specifically, when the non-HDL-c/HDL-c ratio was below 3.1, a significant and negative association with reversion to normoglycemia was observed. Background: It remains unclear how the condition of glucose metabolism during pregnancy affects fetal outcomes. This study aimed to investigate the associations of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and elevated glucose levels at each time point during oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) with congenital heart disease (CHD) risk in offspring. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of mothers with singleton pregnancies of 20 weeks or more registered at Maternal and Child Health Centers in Fujian Province, China. The OGTT results and offspring CHD occurrence were collected. We used logistic regression to analyse the association between elevated blood glucose at each time point during OGTT and CHD. Results: A total of 71,703 normal and 533 CHD fetuses were included. Compared to the corresponding normal group, women with GDM, elevated blood glucose at different time points in OGTT (0 h ≥ 5.1 mmol/L, 1 h ≥ 10 mmol/L, and 2 h ≥ 8.5 mmol/L) showed an increased risk of CHD in offspring (adjusted OR = 1.41, 1.36, 1.37, and 1.41, all P < 0.05, respectively). Compared to group 1 (normal OGTT 0 h, 1 h and 2 h), the risk of CHD was higher in group 3 (normal OGTT 0 h and abnormal OGTT 1 h or 2 h) and group 4 (abnormal OGTT 0 h, 1 h and 2 h), OR = 1.53 and 2.21, all P < 0.05, respectively. Moreover, we divided participants by advanced maternal age, multipara, assisted reproduction, fetal sex, and others, similar associations were observed in the subgroup analyses. Conclusion: Elevated blood glucose at different time points during OGTT was associated with CHD in offspring. Fetuses of pregnant women with GDM should be screened for a high risk of CHD. Objective: Triglyceride glucose index (TyG index) has been recommended as an alternative indicator of insulin resistance. However, the association between TyG and regression from prediabetes to normoglycemia remains to be elucidated. Methods: This retrospective cohort study involved 25,248 subjects with prediabetes at baseline conducted from 2010 to 2016. A Cox proportional hazard regression model was designed to evaluate the role of TyG in identifying people at converting from prediabetes to normoglycemia. Cox proportional hazards regression with cubic spline functions and smooth curve fitting was used to dig out the nonlinear relationship between them. Detailed evaluations for TyG were also performed using sensitivity and subgroup analyse. Results: Among the included prediabetes subjects (n = 25,248), the mean age was 49.27 ± 13.84 years old, and 16,701 (66.15%) were male. The mean TyG was 8.83 ± 0.60. The median follow-up time was 2.96 ± 0.90 years. 11,499 (45.54%) individuals had a final diagnosis of normoglycemia. After adjusting for covariates, TyG was negatively affecting the results of glucose status conversion in prediabetes people (HR 0.895, 95% CI 0.863, 0.928). There was a nonlinear connection between TyG and normoglycemia in prediabetes people, and the inflection point was 8.88. The effect sizes (HR) on the left and right sides of the inflection point were 0.99 (0.93, 1.05) and 0.79 (0.74, 0.85), respectively. Sensitivity analysis confirmed the robustness of these results. Subgroup analysis showed that TyG was more strongly associated with incident glucose status conversion in male, BMI ≥ 25. In contrast, there was a weaker relationship in those with female, BMI < 25. Conclusion: Based on sample of subjects evaluated between 2010 and 2016, TyG index appears to be a promising marker for predicting normoglycemic conversion among prediabetes people in China. This study demonstrates a negative and non-linear association between TyG and glucose status conversion from prediabetes to normoglycemia. TyG is strongly related to glucose status conversion when TyG is above 8.88. From a therapeutic point of view, it is meaningful to maintain TyG levels within the inflection point to 8.88. Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of mHealth management with an implantable glucose sensor and a mobile application among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in China. Methods: A randomised controlled trial was carried out to compare the effectiveness of usual health management to mHealth management based on a model that consisted of the network platform, an implantable glucose sensor and a mobile app featuring guidance from general practitioners (GPs) over a four-week period. Patients (N =68) with T2DM were randomly divided into an intervention group and a control group. Before the intervention, there was no difference in body mass index (BMI), fasting blood glucose (FBG), postprandial two-hour blood glucose (2hPG) and glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c) between the intervention group and the control group (p >0.05). Patients in the control group received their usual health management, while patients in the intervention group received mHealth management. Results: After health management, the mean BMI, FBG, 2hPG and HbA1c of the intervention group patients were all lower than those of the control group patients (p < 0.05), and the quality of life and self-management of the intervention group patients had significantly improved. Discussion: mHealth management effectively showed significant reductions in BMI, FBG, 2hPG and HbA1c and improved quality of life and self-management among patients, which may be related to real-time feedback from an implantable glucose sensor and guidance from GPs through a mobile app. mHealth management is a very promising way to promote the health management of T2DM in China, and this study provides a point of reference for mHealth management abroad. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is an accessible and reliable surrogate indicator of insulin resistance and is strongly associated with diabetes. However, its relationship with diabetic retinopathy (DR) remains controversial. This meta-analysis aimed to assess the relationship between the TyG index and the prevalence of DR. Initial studies were searched from PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) electronic databases. The retrieval time range was from the establishment of the database to June 2023. Pooled estimates were derived using a random-effects model and reported as odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Two researchers independently assessed the methodological quality of the included studies. The Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Scale (NOS) was utilized to assess cohort studies or case-control studies. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) methodology checklist was applied to assess cross-sectional studies. Ten observational studies encompassing 13716 patients with type 2 diabetes were included in the meta-analysis. The results showed that a higher TyG index increased the risk of DR compared with a low TyG index (OR: 2.34, 95% CI: 1.31- 4.19, P < 0.05). When the index was analyzed as a continuous variable, consistent results were observed (OR: 1.48, 95% CI: 1.12-1.97, P < 0.005). There was no significant effect on the results of the sensitivity analyses excluding one study at a time (P all < 0.05). A higher TyG index may be associated with an increased prevalence of DR in patients with type 2 diabetes. Oilseed rape is an economically important crop and provides a good nectar resource. In this study, the nectar secretion characteristics of five winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) cultivars in China were examined throughout the daytime. The correlations of corolla opening size, air temperature and relative humidity with nectar production were also determined. Different daily patterns of nectar secretion were detected in flowers opening at different times of the day, and similar trends were observed among cultivars. The nectar volume and nectar sugar concentration in flowers that opened before 9:00 peaked on the first day. The nectar volume of flowers that opened at 11:00 peaked on the second day, and the nectar sugar concentration peaked on the first day. The total nectar yield of flowers opening before 9:00 (4.422–5.265 μl) was lower than that of flowers opening at 11:00 (7.982–10.646 μl). The average nectar sugar concentration of flowers opening before 9:00 (18.4–23.3%) was higher than that of flowers opening at 11:00 (15.3–17.5%). The nectar volume was positively correlated with air temperature and relative humidity, while the nectar sugar concentration was positively correlated with air temperature and negatively correlated with relative humidity. The nectar volume and nectar sugar concentration were positively correlated with corolla opening size. The glucose/fructose ratio ranged from 0.89 to 1.44. These results will contribute to a better understanding of the nectar secretion patterns of B. napus L. and will support further studies assessing the melliferous potential of B. napus L. and the temporal dynamics of plant-pollinator interactions. Objective To investigate the relationship between triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and the total load of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) and its different imaging markers. Methods A total of 202 patients with CSVD admitted to The Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University from January 2020 to May 2022 were selected. The clinical data of all patients were collected and TyG index was calculated. The lacunes, cerebral microbleeds (CMBs), white matter hyperintensity (WMH) and enlarged perivascular space (EPVS) were evaluated by MRI, and total load of CSVD score was calculated. Results 1) TyG index and total load of CSVD score: Logistic regression analysis showed the male (OR = 2.245, 95%CI: 1.017-4.957; P = 0.045), increase of age (OR = 1.084, 95%CI: 1.046-1.124; P = 0.000), hypertension (OR = 2.457, 95%CI: 1.189-5.078; P = 0.015) and increase of TyG index (OR = 2.657, 95%CI: 1.353-5.216; P = 0.005) were risk factors for moderate and severe total load of CSVD. 2) TyG index and imaging markers of CSVD: Logistic regression analysis showed the increase of TyG index was the risk factor of moderate and severe WMH (OR = 2.313, 95%CI: 1.095-4.885; P = 0.028), CMBs (OR = 1.690, 95%CI: 1.011-2.824; P = 0.045), lacunes (OR = 2.087, 95%CI: 1.235-3.525; P = 0.006), moderate and severe EPVS in basal ganglia (OR = 2.005, 95%CI: 1.190-3.378; P = 0.009). Overall diet quality during pregnancy has played an important role on maternal glucose metabolism. However, evidence based on the adherence to the dietary guideline is limited, especially for Asian populations. We aimed to examine the association between adherence to the Chinese dietary guideline measured by the Diet Balance Index for Pregnancy (DBI-P) and maternal glucose metabolism, including gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) status, fasting and 2-h plasma glucose. Data were obtained from the baseline survey of the Yuexiu birth cohort. We recruited 942 pregnant women at 20–28 weeks of gestation in 2017–2018. Dietary intakes during the past month were collected using a validated semi-quantitative FFQ. The scores of DBI-P were calculated to assess dietary quality. Lower absolute values of the scores indicate higher adherence to the Chinese dietary guidelines. All participants underwent a 75 g of oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Multiple linear regression and logistic regression were conducted. The Benjamini–Hochberg method was used to adjust multiple comparisons across DBI-P food components. The value of high bound score indicator, reflecting excessive total food intake, was positively associated with OGTT-2h glucose levels (β = 0·037, P = 0·029). After adjustment for multiple comparisons, the score of animal food intake was positively associated with OGTT-2 h glucose levels (β = 0·045, P = 0·045) and risk of GDM (OR = 1·105, P = 0·030). In conclusion, excessive total food intake was associated with higher postprandial glucose in pregnant women. The association between DM and prostate cancer progression remains controversial. Previous studies mainly focused on early stage prostate cancer patients. We aimed to study the association between DM and prostate cancer progression in locally advanced prostate cancer patients. 598 locally advanced prostate cancer patients in a top tertiary hospital in China between 2012 and 2021 were divided into three groups based on the postoperative average HbA1c level. The follow-up time is 46.96 ± 27.07 months. Three hundred and forty-eight (58.2%) were normal glucose, 175 (29.3%) were moderate glucose, and 75 (12.5%) were high glucose. Higher postoperative-average HbA1c was associated with poorer OS, PCSM, and PSA-RFS. We concluded that poorly controlled DM was correlated with poorer OS, PCSM, and PSA-RFS in locally advanced prostate cancer patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the more serious complications of diabetes. However, the mechanisms involved in DR are complex and still need to be investigated. The beneficial effects of fisetin have been widely reported, but whether it is beneficial in DR is not clear yet. This study was designed to investigate the regulatory role of fisetin in regulating DR and explore the involved mechanism. First, 30 mM glucose was used to establish DR cell model in vitro. Cell counting kit 8 (CCK8) assay was utilized to study the effects of fisetin on cell viability through treating human retinal microvascular endothelial cells (HRMECs) with 25, 50, and 100 μM fisetin. Transwell and wound healing assays were used to detect the function of fisetin on the migration and angiogenesis on HG-induced HRMECs. Finally, OE-VEGF was used as a mimic of VEGF, and western blotting (WB) was used to verify the targeting genes of fisetin. HG induced an increase in cell viability, cell migration, and angiogenesis in HRMECs, whereas fisetin inhibited these enhancements induced by HG through inhibiting VEGF. Background: Current studies in most Western countries have largely focused on body mass index (BMI) as an important risk factor for impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and impaired fasting glucose (IFG), which have different pathophysiological bases. In people with obesity, the prevalence of IGT is higher and the prevalence of IFG is lower. The prevalence of IGT in the Asian population is higher than that in the white population, and the obesity rate in China is still increasing. However, few cohort studies explore the relationship between BMI and the incidence of IGT and IFG in China. We aimed to explore the relationship between BMI and the risk of IGT and IFG in Chinese adults and analyze the differences between them. Methods: The baseline data were obtained from the 2010 China Chronic Disease and Risk Factor Surveillance, of which 20 surveillance sites were followed up from 2016 to 2017. Finally, in this study, a total of 5,578 studies were grouped into BMI categories of underweight (BMI < 18.5 kg/m2), normal weight (18.5–23.9 kg/m2), overweight (24.0–27.9 kg/m2), and obesity (≥ 28.0 kg/m2). We used the unconditional logistic regression model to analyze the relationship between BMI and the risk of IGT and IFG. Results: During an average follow-up of 6.4 years, 562 developed IGT and 257 developed IFG. After age, gender, urban and rural areas, physical activity, family history of diabetes, hypertension, abdominal obesity, dyslipidemia, and other factors were adjusted, overweight increased the risk of IGT by 35% [odds ratio (OR) 1.35, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.08–1.70], and obesity increased the risk of IGT by 77% (OR 1.77, 95% CI 1.27–1.47). After the factors consistent with the above were adjusted, only obesity increased the risk of IFG by 122% (OR 2.22, 95% CI 1.39–3.54). Objective: To investigate the effects of glucose-free and glucose-containing dialysates during dialysis in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients by the prospective cross-over study, and detect glucose control methods in MHD patients. Methods: A total of 66 MHD 18–75 years old patients in our hospital from Nov. 2019 to Mar. 2020 were recruited. All patients underwent HD with 4 hours per time, three times per week. Glucose-free dialysate (glucose-free group) and then 5.55 mmol/L glucose-containing dialysate (glucose-5.55 group) were used alternately in dialysis. The demographics and parameters of pre- and post-dialysis were recorded. Results: A total of 60 patients were analyzed, and 28 patients among them had type 2 diabetes. Serum glucose pre and post dialysis were 8.64 ± 4.18 mmol/L versus 5.74 ± 1.82 mmol/L (p < 0.01) in glucose-free dialysate, and 9.31 ± 4.89 mmol/L versus 7.80 ± 2.59 mmol/L (p < 0.01) in glucose-5.55 dialysate. The post-dialysis blood glucose of glucose-free group was lower than glucose-5.55 group (5.74 ± 1.82 vs 7.80 ± 2.59, p < 0.01). About 18 (30.00%) patients in glucose-free group and 1 patient (1.67%) in glucose-5.55 group whose blood glucose was lower than 4.44 mmol/L (p < 0.01). About 29 patients (48.33%) in glucose-free group and 17 patients (28.33%; p = 0.02) in glucose-5.55 group have hunger feeling. Serum sodium level in the glucose-free group was higher than that in Glucose-5.55 group (137.92 ± 1.64 vs 136.70 ± 1.64, p < 0.01). Post-dialysis blood glucose had no significant differences between patients not using diabetes-related medication (13 patients) and patients using diabetes-related medication (15 patients) in glucose-free group (7.13 ± 1.78 mmol/L vs 6.08 ± 2.84 mmol/L, p = 0.23) and glucose-5.55 group (9.22 ± 2.59 mmol/L vs 9.35 ± 2.88 mmol/L, p = 0.90). Conclusions: Glucose-free and glucose-5.55 dialysate both decrease the blood glucose post-dialysis. Dialysates containing 5.55 mmol/L glucose can reduce the incidence of hypoglycemia and lower serum sodium, but have no effect on blood pressure during dialysis. Stopping insulin and oral anti-diabetic drugs once before dialysis may not affect the control of blood glucose. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Evidence regarding the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and reversion to normoglycemia from prediabetes is still limited. The purpose of our study is to survey the link of BMI on reversion to normoglycemia among patients with impaired fasting glucose (IFG). Methods: This study, a retrospective cohort, covered 32 regions and 11 cities in China and collected 258,74 IFG patients who underwent a health check from 2010 to 2016. We investigated the association between baseline BMI and reversion to normoglycemia in patients with IFG using the Cox proportionalhazards regression model. The nonlinear relationship between BMI and reversion to normoglycemia was determined using a Cox proportional hazards regression with cubic spline functions and smooth curve fitting. In addition, we also performed a series of sensitivity analyses and subgroup analyses. A competing risk multivariate Cox regression was performed using progression to diabetes as a competing risk for reversal of normoglycemic events. Results: After adjusting covariates, the results showed that BMI was negatively related to the probability of reversion to normoglycemia (HR=0.977, 95% CI:0.971-0.984). Compared with participants with normal BMI(<24kg/m²), overweight (BMI:24-28kg/m²) participants with IFG had a 9.9% lower probability of returning to normoglycemia (HR=0.901,95%CI:0.863-0.939), while obese patients (BMI = 28kg/m²) had a 16.9% decreased probability of reverting from IFG to normoglycemia (HR=0.831,95%CI:0.780-0.886). There was also a nonlinear relationship between them, and the inflection point of BMI was 21.7kg/m². The effect sizes (HR) on the left sides of the inflection point were 0.972(95%CI:0.964-0.980). The competing risks multivariate Cox's regression and sensitivity analysis demonstrated the robustness of our results. Conclusion: This study demonstrates a negative and nonlinear relationship between BMI and reversion to normoglycemia in Chinese patients with IFG. Minimizing BMI to 21.7 kg/m² in patients with IFG through aggressive intervention may significantly increase the probability of returning to normoglycemia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To identify risk factors for impaired glucose regulation (IGR) and assess their impact on community residents, this study used a questionnaire to conduct cross-sectional surveys and analysis. Methods: Overall, 774 residents of an urban community in northern China (Jian city) participated in this study. Trained investigators conducted surveys using questionnaires. Based on their medical history, respondents were divided into three glucose status groups as follows: normal (NGT), IGR, and diabetes mellitus (DM). Statistical analysis of survey data was performed using SPSS v. 22.0. Results: Age, hypertension, family history of diabetes (FHD), dyslipidemia, obesity, and cardiovascular and cerebral disease (CVD) were positively correlated with IGR in men and women. IGR was negatively correlated with a sedentary lifestyle in men and positively correlated with being overweight in women. The number of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) risk factors per subject was positively correlated with age in the NGT group. Glucose status deteriorated with increasing age and the number of risk factors. FHD was the strongest risk factor in both men and women. Conclusions: Prevention of IGR includes weight control, physical activity, and prevention of hypertension and dyslipidemia, especially in subjects with FHD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) frequently coexist and can act synergistically to drive adverse outcomes of one another. This study aimed to unravel the metabolomic changes in patients with NAFLD and T2DM, to identify potential noninvasive biomarkers, and to provide insights for understanding the link between NAFLD and T2DM. Methods Three hundred participants aged 35 to 70 years who were diagnosed with NAFLD (n = 100), T2DM (n = 100), or a comorbidity of NAFLD and T2DM (n = 100) were included in this study. Anthropometrics and routine blood chemistry were assessed after overnight fast. The global serum metabolomic analysis was performed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-Orbitrap mass spectrometry. Multivariate data analysis methods were utilized to identify the potential biomarkers. Results A set of serum biomarkers that could effectively separate NAFLD from NAFLD + T2DM and T2DM from NAFLD + T2DM were identified. We found that patients with coexisting NAFLD and T2DM had significantly higher levels of total protein (TP), triglycerides (TG), glucose in urine, and gamma-hydroxybutyric acid than those with NAFLD and had significant increased levels of TP, albumin, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, total cholesterol, cholinesterase, TG, low-density lipoprotein, and apolipoprotein A when compared to patients with T2DM. Conclusion The metabolomics results provide evidence that the comorbidity of NAFLD and T2DM considerably altered patients' metabolomics patterns compared to those of patients with only NAFLD or T2DM. Background: Triglyceride glucose (TyG) index is a new marker associated with atherosclerosis. This study aimed to assess the association between TyG index and the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and further explore the association between TyG index and CAD severity in different glucose metabolic states. Methods: This multi-centre retrospective study included 731 patients with CHD between January 1, 2014 and September 30, 2020 in China. All patients were stratified into groups based on the tertiles of TyG index (T1: 5.48 ≤ TyG index ≤ 7.17; T2: 7.18 ≤ TyG index ≤ 7.76; T3: 7.77 ≤ TyG index ≤ 10.82). The number of diseased vessels [single-vessel and multi-vessel CAD (≥ 50% stenosis in ≥ 2 large vessels)] represented the severity of CAD, which was measured using coronary angiography (CAG). Glucose metabolic states were defined by the American Diabetes Association as normal glucose regulation (NGR), prediabetes mellitus (Pre-DM), and diabetes mellitus (DM). Results: The baseline analysis results showed significant differences in the clinical and biological characteristics of CHD patients according to TyG index tertiles (P < 0.05 to < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis showed that the TyG index was significantly related to the risk of multi-vessel CAD (odds ratio [OR]: 1.715; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.339–2.197; P < 0.001). The OR for multi-vessel CAD in TyG index T3 compared to that of T1 was 2.280 (95% CI 1.530–3.398; P < 0.001). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was generated to evaluate the accuracy of the TyG index in detecting the CAD severity, and the area under the curve (AUC) of the ROC plots was 0.601 (95% CI 0.559–0.643). The association between TyG index and multi-vessel CAD was significant in patients with DM, achieving the highest OR among the different glucose metabolic states (OR: 1.717; 95% CI 1.161–2.539; P < 0.05). Conclusion: TyG index was associated with CAD severity in patients with CHD, and an increased TyG index could identify patients with a high risk of multi-vessel CAD. Background: Bexagliflozin and dapagliflozin are sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors. No direct comparison of SGLT2 inhibitors in a randomized controlled trial has been reported to date., Methods: This was a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, active-controlled trial comparing bexagliflozin to dapagliflozin for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults with disease inadequately controlled by metformin. Subjects (n = 406) were randomized to receive bexagliflozin (20 mg) or dapagliflozin (10 mg) plus metformin. The primary endpoint was noninferiority of bexagliflozin to dapagliflozin for the change in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) from baseline to week 24. Secondary endpoints included intergroup differences in fasting plasma glucose (FPG), 2-h-postprandial glucose (PPG), body weight, and systolic blood pressure (SBP) from baseline to week 24. The trial also evaluated the safety profiles., Results: The model-adjusted mean change from baseline to week 24 HbA1c was -1.08% for bexagliflozin and -1.10% for dapagliflozin. The intergroup difference of 0.03% (95% confidence interval [CI] -0.14% to 0.19%) was below the prespecified margin of 0.4%, confirming the noninferiority of bexagliflozin. The changes from baseline in FPG, PPG, body weight, and SBP were -1.95 mmol/L, -3.24 mmol/L, -2.52 kg, and -6.4 mm Hg in the bexagliflozin arm and -1.87 mmol/L, -3.07 mmol/L, -2.22 kg, and -6.3 mm Hg in the dapagliflozin arm. Adverse events were experienced in 62.6% and 65.0% and serious adverse events affected 4.4% and 3.5% of subjects in the bexagliflozin and dapagliflozin arm, respectively., Conclusions: Bexagliflozin showed nearly identical effects and a similar safety profile to dapagliflozin when used in Chinese patients on metformin., (© 2024 The Authors. Aim: To assess the associations between genome-wide DNA methylation (DNAm) and glucose metabolism among a Chinese population, in particular the multisite correlation. Materials & methods: Epigenome-wide associations with fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) were analyzed among 100 Shanghai monozygotic (MZ) twin pairs using the Infinium HumanMethylationEPIC v2.0 BeadChip. We conducted a Pearson's correlation test, hierarchical cluster and pairwise analysis to examine the differential methylation patterns from clusters. Results: Cg01358804 ( TXNIP ) was identified as the most significant site associated with FPG and HbA1c. Two clusters with hypermethylated and hypomethylated patterns were observed for both FPG and HbA1c. Conclusion: Differential methylation patterns from clusters may provide new clues for epigenetic changes and biological mechanisms in glucose metabolism.

Background and Aim: Insulin resistance (IR) plays an important role in the atherosclerotic process, and the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index is a reliable indicator of IR and is strongly associated with cardiovascular disease. However, there are few studies regarding the relationship between the TyG index and chronic total coronary occlusion (CTO). Herein, the correlation between the TyG index and CTO, as well as their interactions with other traditional cardiovascular risk factors, were investigated., Methods and Results: We enrolled 2691 patients who underwent coronary angiography at Guangyuan Central Hospital from January 2019 to October 2021. TyG index results were used to create three groups using the trichotomous method. CTO was defined as complete occlusion of the coronary artery for ≥3 months. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models, restricted cubic splines, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, and subgroup analyses was performed. A significant correlation between the TyG index and CTO was noted. The risk of CTO was increased 2.09-fold in the group with the highest TyG compared with the lowest (OR, 2.09; 95 % CI, 1.05-4.17; P = 0.036). In addition, there was a linear dose-response relationship between the TyG index and CTO (nonlinear P = 0.614). The area under the ROC curve was 0.643 (95 % CI, 0.572-0.654). Introduction: Insulin resistance (IR) is a feature of metabolic syndrome and plays an important role in cognitive impairment (CI). The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a convenient and cost-effective surrogate for assessing IR. This study aimed to assess the association between the TyG index and CI., Methods: This community population-based cross-sectional study used a cluster-sampling methodology. All participants underwent the education-based Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and those with CI were identified using standard thresholds. The fasting blood triglyceride and glucose levels were measured in the morning, and the TyG index was calculated as ln (½ fasting triglyceride level [mg/dL] × fasting blood glucose level [mg/dL]). Multivariable logistic regression and subgroup analysis were used to assess the relationship between the TyG index and CI., Results: This study included 1484 subjects, of which 93 (6.27%) met the CI criteria. Multivariable logistic regression showed that CI incidence increased by 64% per unit increase in the TyG index (odds ratio [OR] = 1.64, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.02-2.63, p  = 0.042). CI risk was 2.64-fold higher in the highest TyG index quartile compared to the lowest TyG index quartile (OR = 2.64, 95% CI: 1.19-5.85, p  = 0.016). Finally, interaction analysis showed that sex, age, hypertension, and diabetes did not significantly affect the association between the TyG index and CI., Conclusion: The present study suggested that an elevated TyG index was associated with a higher CI risk. Subjects with a higher TyG index should manage and treat at an early stage to alleviate the cognitive decline.

Objective: This study was designed to examine the correlation between serum uric acid (SUA) and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels across non-diabetic, pre-diabetic, and diabetic adults from Northwest China., Materials and Methods: This study utilized data from a cross-sectional survey conducted in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, which investigated the prevalence and risk factors of cardiovascular disease. All subjects underwent tests for SUA and FPG levels. Generalized additive models and two-piecewise linear regression models were applied to explore the relationships between SUA and FPG level. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index was examined as a measure of insulin resistance, with an analysis of its mediating effects on the association between SUA and FPG level., Results: A total of 10,217 individuals aged 18 and over were included. Generalized additive models verified the inverted U-shaped association between SUA and FPG levels, and the inflection points of FPG levels in the curves were 6.5 mmol/L in males and 8.8 mmol/L in females. The TyG index is an intermediate variable in the relationship between SUA levels and elevated FPG levels, with mediating effects of 12.82% (P < 0.001) for males and 34.02% (P < 0.001) for females., Conclusions: An inverted U-shaped association between FPG and SUA levels was observed in both genders. Glucose disturbances are a common comorbidity of major depressive disorder (MDD) patients and have been extensively studied in the past. However, few studies have explored glucose disturbances in first-episode drug-naïve (FEDN) MDD patients. The purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence and risk factors of glucose disturbances in FEDN MDD patients to understand the relationship between MDD and glucose disturbances in the acute early phase and provide important implications for therapeutic interventions. Using a cross-sectional design, we recruited a total of 1718 MDD patients. We collected their socio-demographic information, clinical data, and blood glucose indicators.17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD), 14-item Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA), and the positive symptom subscale of the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) were used to assess their depression, anxiety, psychotic symptoms, respectively. The prevalence of glucose disturbances in FEDN MDD patients was 13.6%. Depression, anxiety and psychotic symptoms, body mass index (BMI) levels and suicide attempts rates were higher in the group with glucose disorders than in the group without glucose disorders among patients with first-episode drug-naive MDD. Correlation analysis showed that glucose disturbances were associated with HAMD score, HAMA score, BMI, psychotic symptoms and suicide attempts. Furthermore, binary logistic regression showed that HAMD score and suicide attempts were independently associated with glucose disturbances in MDD patients. Our findings suggest that the prevalence of comorbid glucose disturbances is very high in FEDN MDD patients. Background : Magnesium (Mg) is an essential element and participates in many metabolic pathways. Many studies have found a certain negative correlation between magnesium and blood glucose parameters, but the dose-response relationship between them is still a relatively narrow research field. We aim to explore the dose-response relationship between plasma and dietary Mg and type 2 diabetes (T2DM) among childbearing women in a nationally representative sample. And we will also initially explore the threshold of dietary and plasma magnesium in the prevention of T2DM and their consistency. Methods : A total of 2912 18-44 year-old childbearing women were recruited from the China Adult Chronic Disease and Nutrition Surveillance (2015). Multivariate logistic regression was used to explore the dose-response relationship between plasma and dietary Mg and glucose parameters. The threshold effect between Mg and T2DM was explored by a restricted cubic spline regression. Results : It was found that when plasma Mg was increased by 0.041 mmol/L, the risk of T2DM, impaired fasting glucose (IFG), and HbA1c-hyperglycemia was reduced by 18%, 19%, and 18%, respectively. The possible threshold value for plasma Mg to prevent the risk of T2DM was 0.87 mmol/L. Through the quality control of the sample dietary survey data, 2469 cases were finally included for dietary analysis. And the possible threshold value for dietary Mg to prevent the risk of T2DM was 408 mg/d. Taking the recommended dietary Mg intake of 330 mg/d as the reference group, when the Mg intake reached 408 mg/d, the risk of T2DM was significantly reduced. And the average plasma Mg level of the people whose dietary intake reached 408 mg/d was 0.87 mmol/L. Conclusions : These results indicate that dietary Mg and plasma Mg have good consistency on the threshold effect of glucose parameters in women of childbearing age.

Sn-2 palmitate is widely used in infant formula. However, little is known about its effects on metabolism and body composition in middle-aged and elderly adults. In a double-blinded, randomized controlled trial, we enrolled Chinese adults aged 45-75 years with self-reported constipation. Individuals were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to a 1,3-dioleoyl-2-palmitoyl-glycerol (OPO)-enriched oil (66% palmitic acid in the sn-2 position) or a control vegetable oil (24% palmitic acid in the sn-2 position) daily for 24 weeks. Skim milk powder was used as the carrier for both fats. Interviews and body composition were performed at baseline, week 4, week 12 and week 24. A fasting blood draw was taken except at week 4. This study was a secondary analysis and considered exploratory. A total of 111 adults (83 women and 28 men, mean age 64.2 ± 7.0 years) were enrolled, of whom 53 were assigned to the OPO group and 57 to the control group. During the intervention, blood glucose, triglyceride, the triglyceride-glucose index, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and remnant cholesterol remained stable, while high-density lipoprotein cholesterol decreased in both groups ( p = 0.003). No differences in change were observed between the groups (all p > 0.05). From baseline to week 24, the level of visceral fat increased slightly ( p = 0.017), while body weight, total body water, protein, soft lean mass, fat-free mass, skeletal muscle and skeletal muscle mass index (SMI) decreased in two groups ( p < 0.01). At weeks 4, 12 and 24, the SMI decreased less in the OPO group than in the control group, with a trend towards significance ( p = 0.090). Aim: Insulin resistance (IR) may participate in the pathogenesis of hypertension by mediating low-grade systemic inflammation. The triglycerides-glucose (TyG) index has recently been suggested as a reliable alternative biochemical marker of IR compared with traditional methods. Herein, we speculated TyG index may also be associated with hypertension., Methods: Data of adults were extracted from the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) in 2009-2015 in this retrospective cohort study. The TyG index was calculated using the formula: TyG = Ln [fasting triglycerides (mg/dL) ×fasting glucose (mg/dL)/2]. Associations between TyG index and hypertension were evaluated by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses with odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Subgroup analyses of age and gender were also performed. In addition, we assessed the interaction effect between TyG index and body mass index (BMI) on hypertension in participants with different age and gender., Results: Among 3,413 eligible participants, 1,627 (47.67%) developed hypertension. The average TyG index in hypertension group and non-hypertension group was 8.58 and 8.39 respectively. After adjusting for covariates, we found that compared with participants with TyG index ≤ 8.41 (median value), those who had higher TyG index seemed to have higher odds of hypertension [OR = 1.17, 95%CI: (1.01-1.37)]. Similarly, this association was also discovered in participants who aged ≤ 65 years old [OR = 1.19, 95%CI: (1.01-1.39)] or were female [OR = 1.35, 95%CI: (1.10-1.65)]. Background: Both abnormal glucose metabolism and anxiety have been reported to be common in major depressive disorder (MDD). However, few studies have explored glucose disturbances in first-episode and drug-naive (FEDN) MDD patients with anxiety. The purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence and risk factors of glucose disturbance in FEND MDD patients comorbid with anxiety., Methods: 1718 FEDN MDD patients were included in this study. The positive subscale of the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA), and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD) were used to measure psychotic, anxiety and depressive symptoms respectively. Sociodemographic and biochemical indicators were also collected., Results: The prevalence of glucose disorders in MDD patients combined with anxiety was 15.7 %, significantly higher than in MDD patients without anxiety symptoms (7.1 %). Glucose disturbances were associated with HAMD score, HAMA score, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), anti-thyroglobulin (TGAb), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C), fasting blood glucose (FBG), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), suicide attempts, and psychotic symptoms. Priming effect (PE) is recognized as an important potential mechanism for dissolved organic matter (DOM) degradation in aquatic ecosystems. However, the priming effects (PEs) of various priming substances on the degradation of DOM pools in urban lakes along diverse trophic states remain unknown. To address this knowledge gap, the PEs and drivers of glucose and plant leachate of lake water with three trophic states were investigated. We reveal differences in the bioavailability of DOM in lake water, glucose, and plant leachate. The PE of the same priming substance was significantly higher in highly-eutrophic lake water than in mesotrophic lake. The priming intensity induced by glucose was significantly higher when compared to plant leachate. Regarding the addition of glucose, humic-like components (C1 and C3) showed slight PE, while the tyrosine-like component C2 showed negative PE. However, the positive PEs were observed on three components after adding plant leachate. The driver of PE by glucose shifted from nutrients to DOM components with increasing trophic levels. The PEs induced by plant leachate were affected by nutrients, chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), water chemistry, and DOM components in lightly/moderately-eutrophic lake water. Acarbose is a widely used α-glucosidase inhibitor for the management of postprandial hyperglycemia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Recent pilot studies on acarbose bioequivalence (BE) have successfully identified additional pharmacodynamic (PD) parameters as valid end points. Nevertheless, there was a scarcity of published pivotal studies using novel PD parameters. The purpose of the study is to investigate the acarbose BE using the new PD parameters. The study was conducted with an open, randomized, 2-period crossover design. A total of 64 healthy Chinese volunteers received either the reference (R) or test (T) acarbose at a dose of 2×50 mg orally, followed by a 1-week washout period. After sucrose treatment (baseline) and sucrose/acarbose co-administration, serum glucose, and insulin concentrations were assessed. The rectifying approach yielded geometric mean ratios of 102.9% for maximum serum glucose concentration with deduction of glucose concentration at 0 hour and 105.3% for the area under the serum glucose concentration-time curve profile 0-2 hours after coadministration of sucrose and acarbose with deduction of baseline (AUC 0-2 h,r ). The 90% confidence intervals of maximum serum glucose concentration with deduction of glucose concentration at 0 hour and the area under the serum glucose concentration-time curve profile 0-2 hours after coadministration of sucrose and acarbose with deduction of baseline all fell within the acceptance limits. The incidence of adverse events after the T or R drug was comparable, and healthy subjects were well tolerated. The findings of our investigation clearly show that the PD parameters of the rectifying method exhibit enhanced suitability and sensitivity when assessing acarbose BE in healthy participants. Introduction: Elevated urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) was associated with increased mortality in general population and diabetic patients. However, whether the association remains similar in the subjects with different status of glucose metabolism was unclear. The optimal level of UACR in predicting mortality also remained unknown. This study aims to investigate the relationship between UACR with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in population with different status of glucose metabolism and explore the predictive cutoff point of UACR., Methods: Six thousand three hundred and eighty-six community-dwelling individuals aged ≥45 years were enrolled and followed for an average of 5.3 years. Cox proportional hazards model was performed to analysis the association of baseline UACR and all-cause as well as cardiovascular mortality according to the status of glucose metabolism. Receiver operating characteristic curve was plotted to explore the optimal predictive cutoff point of UACR., Results: With UACR increasing, both the prevalence of all-cause and cardiovascular death increased. Cox analyses showed baseline UACR independently predicted the risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in the patients with prediabetes mellitus (pre-DM) and diabetes mellitus (DM) but not in subjects with normal glucose tolerance (NGT). When divided by quartiles of UACR, the cumulative survival rate decreased acrossing the quartiles. Compared to the subjects with lowest quartile of UACR, participants with UACR ≥7.40 mg/gCr had a higher risk of all-cause mortality, and participants with UACR ≥16.60 mg/gCr had an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality in all hyperglycemia subjects. The optimal predictive cutoff point of UACR was about 17 mg/gCr., Conclusion: UACR was an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in population with pre-DM and DM but not in the subjects with NGT. The optimal predictive cutoff point of UACR is about 17 mg/gCr, which was far below the diagnostic cutoff point of microalbuminuria. purpose was to explore the relationship between triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and the risk of new-onset hypertension in Chinese individuals aged ≥ 45 years. Methods: From 2011 to 2018, data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey (CHARLS) were analyzed. The relationship between TyG index and hypertension was assessed utilizing Cox regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) plot, and the importance of the TyG index in hypertension development was demonstrated by a random forest machine learning model. Finally, subgroup analysis was conducted to test for potential interactions on hypertension development between the TyG index and subgroups. Results: 19.7% of the 4755 individuals who were involved in this survey developed hypertension over an average follow-up period of 5.22 years. Compared with the first quartile of albumin, the multivariate HR (95% CI) for the risk of new-onset hypertension across the TyG index quartiles was 1.09 (0.89, 1.33), 1.09 (0.89, 1.33), and 1.29 (1.06, 1.58), respectively (P for trend < 0.001). The RCS plot revealed a linear relationship (P for nonlinear = 0.322), and the random forest machine learning model illustrated that the TyG index was a significant hazard factor on hypertension development. There was no interaction between subgroups and the relationships of the TyG index with the prevalence of hypertension (all P-value > 0.05). Conclusion: TyG index was an independent hazard indicator for new-onset hypertension, and routine measurement and control of TyG index level might be great for preventing hypertension development. Insulin resistance plays a pivotal role in developing left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Researchers have identified the estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR) as a simple and cost-effective surrogate of insulin resistance. Our work aims to investigate the association between eGDR and the prevalent LVH and explore the incremental value of eGDR to detect prevalent LVH. The present work enrolled 3839 subjects from a cross-sectional survey conducted between October 2019 to April 2020 in the rural areas of southeastern China. eGDR was calculated based on waist-to-hip circumference ratio, hypertension, and glycated hemoglobin. The prevalence of LVH was 17.30%. After adjusting demographic, anthropometric, laboratory, and medical history co-variates, each standard deviation increase of eGDR decreased a 29.6% risk of prevalent LVH. When dividing eGDR into quartiles, the top quartile had a 38.4% risk compared to the bottom quartile. Moreover, smooth curve fitting revealed that the association between eGDR and prevalent LVH was linear in the whole range of eGDR. Additionally, subgroup analysis demonstrated that our main finding was robust to age, sex, BMI, hypertension, and diabetes subgroups. Finally, ROC analysis exhibited a significant improvement by adding eGDR into LVH risk factors (0.780 vs. 0.803, P < 0.001), and category-free net reclassification index (0.702, P < 0.001) and integrated discrimination index (0.027, P < 0.001) also confirmed the improvement from eGDR to detect prevalent LVH. Background: Diabetes and impaired glucose regulation are very common in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). In this study, we aim to investigate the prevalence of abnormal glucose regulation in men and women in Chinese CAD patients.Methods: In this retrospective study, 4100 patients (male, n = 2873; female, n = 1227)with CAD were enrolled. The mean age of these patients was 63 years. The demographic data, medical history, echocardiography findings and blood investigations were collected and analyzed.Results: In this population, 953 (24%) patients had definite diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus, including 636 males (23%) and 317 females (27%). There was a higher prevalence of diabetes in females than men (p < 0.05). For the remaining patients, 48% (n = 959) undergone an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), which revealed that 83 male patients (12%) and 41 female patients (16%) suffered from the type 2 diabetes (p > 0.05). 283 men (40%) and 105 women (41%) had impaired glucose regulation (IGR) (p > 0.05). Only 338 men (25%) and 109 women (19%) showed the normal glucose regulation, implying a higher prevalence of abnormal glucose regulation in females (p < 0.01). The odd ratio (OR) showed that women were more prone to have diabetes mellitus or IGT than men and the OR was 1.44 and 1.43 respectively.Conclusion: Abnormal glucose regulation is highly prevalent in CAD patients. Background and Purpose: Some cheap and easily used operated indexes of insulin resistance (IR) were currently available. We aimed to evaluate the association of six surrogate indexes of IR with incident stroke and to compare their predictive capacity.Methods: We analysed data from 14,595 eligible study participants from the Rural Chinese Cohort Study. Modified Poisson regression models were used to estimate relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) of incident stroke associated with the visceral adiposity index (VAI), the Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), triglyceride-glucose (TyG), TyG-body mass index, and TyG-waist circumference. The receiver operator characteristic curve was used to compare the ability of the abovementioned IR indexes to predict stroke.Results: During a median follow-up of 6 years, 786 newly diagnosed stroke cases were identified. The levels of six surrogate indexes of IR were all significantly higher in the stroke population than in the non-stroke population (p < 0.001). Compared with quartile 1, the multivariable adjusted RRs (95% CIs) of incident stroke for quartile 4 were 2.01 (1.47-2.76), 1.62 (1.28, 2.04), 1.64 (1.28-2.09), and 1.92 (1.50-2.45) for CVAI, VAI, LAP, and TyG, respectively. Significant dose-response associations were also found between surrogate IR indexes and risk of stroke. The area under the curves|areas under the curves for CVAI (0.674) was significantly greater than for other indexes (TyG-WC:0.622, TyG:0.614, LAP:0.606, TyG-BMI:0.598, and VAI:0.577) (p < 0.001).Conclusions: Six surrogate indexes of IR were independently associated with incident stroke. We have examined the relative efficacy of the Maillard reaction products (MRPs) prepared by reacting chitosan with xylose, fructose, or glucose for their antimicrobial activities and preservation of fresh-cut beef. The MRPs exhibited broad spectrum antibacterial properties against E. coli, Salmonella typhi, Bacillus subtilis, and Staphylococcus aureus. The antibacterial activity of the three MRPs was dose dependent. Chitosan and its MRPs enhanced shelf life of fresh-cut beef as shown by changes in volatile base nitrogen, trimethylamine, and pH during storage. The order of their ability to preserve beef was fructose->glucose-MRPs>chitosan. Our results suggest that these MRPs could be used as novel promising preservatives in beef industry. Background: To date, there have no study comparing the associations between TyG index and HOMA-IR on the risk of incident albuminuria. Accordingly, the objective of the present study is to use discordance analysis to evaluate the diverse associations between TyG index and HOMA-IR on the risk of incident albuminuria. Methods: A community-based prospective cohort study was performed with 2446 Chinese adults. We categorized participants into 4 concordance or discordance groups. Discordance was defined as a TyG index equal to or greater than the upper quartile and HOMA-IR less than the upper quartile, or vice versa. Results: During a median follow-up period of 3.9 years, 203 of 2446 participants developed incident albuminuria (8.3%). In the multivariable logistic analyses, the high TyG index tertile group was associated with a 1.71-fold (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.07–2.72) higher risk of incident albuminuria, comparing with the low tertile group. Participants in TyG (+) & HOMA-IR (−) group had a greater risk of incident albuminuria compared with those in TyG (−) & HOMA-IR (−) group after multivariate adjustment. Subgroup analyses showed that low HOMA-IR and discordantly high TyG index was closely related to a highest risk of incident albuminuria in cardiovascular metabolic disorder subjects. Conclusions: Participants with a discordantly high TyG index had a significantly greater risk of incident albuminuria, especially in metabolic dysfunction subjects. Introduction: To compare the cost-effectiveness of flash glucose monitoring versus self-monitoring of blood glucose/point of care testing (SMBG/POCT) in both patients with type 1 and patients with type 2 diabetes (T1D/T2D) receiving insulin therapy. Methods: The IQVIA CORE Diabetes Model (version 9.5) was used to project the lifetime costs and health outcomes of flash glucose monitoring and SMBG/POCT from a Chinese societal perspective. We considered both hospital and individual version flash glucose monitoring to reflect the clinical practice in China. The clinical inputs leveraged the outcomes from both clinical trials and real-world studies. Cohort characteristics, intervention costs, treatment-related disutility and mortality were extracted from the literature. We also conducted scenario analyses and probabilistic sensitivity analyses to test the robustness of results. Results: Compared with SMBG/POCT using efficacy results from clinical trial, flash glucose monitoring brought the incremental costs of Chinese yuan (CNY) 58,021 and CNY 90,997 and additional quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) of 1.22 and 0.65 for patients with T1D and patients with T2D, respectively. According to the "WHO-CHOICE threshold" of three times the gross domestic product per capita in China (CNY 217,341 in 2020) as cost-effectiveness threshold, flash glucose monitoring was cost-effective for both patients with T1D and patients with T2D with incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICER) of CNY 47,636 and CNY 140,297 per QALY gained, respectively. According to the real-world effectiveness data, flash glucose monitoring was dominant for patients with T1D (lower costs and better effectiveness) and cost-effective for patients with T2D with an ICER of CNY 124,169 per QALY gained compared with SMBG/POCT. Scenario analyses and probabilistic sensitivity analyses confirmed the robustness of the results. Conclusion: Flash glucose monitoring is likely to be considered as a cost-effective strategy compared to SMBG/POCT for Chinese patients with T1D and patients with T2D receiving insulin therapy. Shenxiong glucose injection (SGI) containing a water extract from the roots of Danshen and Ligustrazine hydrochloride, is the main drug used for the prevention and treatment of acute myocardial ischemia (AMI) in China. Based on the characteristics of drug clinical applications, this study aims to uncover the compatibility mechanism of SGI by investigating pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) differences between Danshen glucose injection (DGI), Ligustrazine glucose injection (LGI) and SGI groups after multiple dosing during the pathological state from the perspective of metabolic enzymes. Compared to the LGI group, the absorption (C max) and exposure (AUC) of ligustrazine increased significantly, and the protein expression of CYP1A2, CYP2C11 and CYP3A2 in the SGI group decreased significantly. Furthermore, the PK and PD experimental data for Danshen and ligustrazine in AMI rats were fitted to obtain a PK-PD binding model with three components. PK-PD parameter analysis showed that in the SGI group the IC50 values of ligustrazine and danshensu on AST, CK-MB, cTn-I and the IC 50 values of rosmarinic acid on AST and CK-MB were lower than the DGI or LGI group. It is speculated that Danshen inhibited CYP1A2, CYP2C11 and CYP3A2 mediating the metabolism of ligustrazine and decreased the expression of these three isozymes, which further affected the in vivo process of ligustrazine. Moreover, the combination of Danshen and ligustrazine could have better regulating effect on AST, CK-MB and cTn-I. This preliminary study has provided a scientific basis for understanding the compatibility mechanism of SGI from the viewpoint of the regulation of CYP enzymes in the PK-PD model. Comparison of chemical composition and functional properties of insoluble and soluble dietary fiber (IDF, SDF) obtained from four China cereal brans was investigated. With findings, IDFs and SDFs for rice bran (RB), wheat bran (WB), highland barely bran (HBB) and tartary buckwheat bran (TBB) contained several monosaccharides such as arabinose, galactose, glucose, xylose, and galacturonic acid. The RBIDF was shrinking and formed a rugged microscopic structure, while the structure of WBIDF was dense and flat. HBBIDF and TBBIDF showed fold and flake structure. The glucose adsorption capacity of the HBBIDF was highest among all samples, which was 3.2 mmol/g. TBBIDF exhibited the highest value of cholesterol adsorption capacity (10.5 mg/g) at pH 7.0 and maximum binding capacity (BC max , 365.2 μmol/g) for cadmium at pH 7.0 among all samples, respectively. Toxicological studies have indicated that exposure to chlorinated paraffins (CPs) may disrupt intracellular glucose and energy metabolism. However, limited information exists regarding the impact of human CP exposure on glucose homeostasis and its potential association with an increased risk of developing gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Here, we conducted a prospective study with a nested case-control design to evaluate the link between short- and medium-chain CP (SCCPs and MCCPs) exposures during pregnancy and the risk of GDM. Serum samples from 102 GDM-diagnosed pregnant women and 204 healthy controls were collected in Hangzhou, Eastern China. The median (interquartile range, IQR) concentration of SCCPs was 161 (127, 236) ng/mL in the GDM group compared to 127 (96.9, 176) ng/mL in the non-GDM group ( p < 0.01). For MCCPs, the GDM group had a median concentration of 144 (117, 174) ng/mL, while the control group was 114 (78.1, 162) ng/mL ( p < 0.01). Compared to the lowest quartile as the reference, the adjusted odds ratios (ORs) of GDM were 7.07 (95% CI: 2.87, 17.40) and 3.34 (95% CI: 1.48, 7.53) in the highest quartile of ∑SCCP and ∑MCCP levels, respectively, with MCCPs demonstrating an inverted U-shaped association with GDM. Weighted quantile sum regression evaluated the joint effects of all CPs on GDM and glucose homeostasis. Among all CP congeners, C 13 H 23 Cl 5 and C 10 H 16 Cl 6 were the crucial variables driving the positive association with the GDM risk. Our results demonstrated a significant positive association between CP concentration in maternal serum and GDM risk, and exposure to SCCPs and MCCPs may disturb maternal glucose homeostasis. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the health risks of CP exposure and the role of environmental contaminants in the pathogenesis of GDM.

Objective: Current literature is deficient in robust evidence delineating the correlation between the triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) and the incidence of stroke. Consequently, this investigation seeks to elucidate the potential link between TyG-BMI and stroke risk in a cohort of middle-aged and senior Chinese individuals., Methods: This study employs longitudinal data from four waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) conducted in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2018, encompassing 8,698 participants. The CHARLS cohort was assembled using a multistage probability sampling technique. Participants underwent comprehensive evaluations through standardized questionnaires administered via face-to-face interviews. Our analytic strategy involved the application of Cox proportional hazards regression models to investigate the association between TyG-BMI and the risk of stroke. To discern potential non-linear relationships, we incorporated Cox proportional hazards regression with smooth curve fitting. Additionally, we executed a battery of sensitivity and subgroup analyses to validate the robustness of our findings., Results: Our study utilized a multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression model and found a significant correlation between the TyG-BMI and the risk of stroke. Specifically, a 10-unit increase in TyG-BMI corresponded to a 4.9% heightened risk of stroke (HR = 1.049, 95% CI 1.029-1.069). The analysis also uncovered a non-linear pattern in this relationship, pinpointed by an inflection point at a TyG-BMI value of 174.63. To the left of this inflection point-meaning at lower TyG-BMI values-a 10-unit hike in TyG-BMI was linked to a more substantial 14.4% rise in stroke risk (HR 1.144; 95% CI 1.044-1.253). Conversely, to the right of the inflection point-at higher TyG-BMI values-each 10-unit increment was associated with a smaller, 3.8% increase in the risk of stroke (HR 1.038; 95% CI 1.016-1.061)., Conclusions: In the middle-aged and elderly Chinese population, elevated TyG-BMI was significantly and positively associated with stroke risk. In addition, there was also a specific non-linear association between TyG-BMI and stroke (inflection point 174.63). Background: Resection of colorectal adenoma (CRA) prevents colorectal cancer; however, recurrence is common. We aimed to assess the association of the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index with CRA occurrence and recurrence., Methods: Data from 3392 participants at a hospital in China from 2020 to 2022 were analyzed. Logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). A restricted cubic spline was used to fit TyG index dose‒response curves to recurrent adenomas. The discriminatory power of TyG index for predicting later recurrence was assessed with the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve in 170 patients with a TyG index at initial adenoma diagnosis., Results: One thousand five hundred ninety-six adenoma and 1465 normal participants were included in the occurrence analysis, and 179 recurrent and 152 nonrecurrent participants were included in the recurrence analysis. The TyG mutation was an independent risk factor for CRA occurrence and recurrence. After adjusting for confounders, the risk of adenoma in the participants in Q2, Q3, and Q4 groups of TyG was 1.324 (95% CI 1.020-1.718), 1.349 (95% CI 1.030-1.765), and 1.445 (95% CI 1.055-1.980) times higher than that of the Q1, respectively, and the risk of recurrence in the Q3 and Q4 groups was 2.267 (95% CI 1.096-4.691) and 2.824 (95% CI 1.199-6.648) times in Q1 group. Multiple logistic regression showed that the highest quartile of the TyG index was associated with a greater risk of advanced adenoma recurrence (OR 4.456, 95% CI 1.157-17.164), two or more adenomas (OR 5.079, 95% CI 1.136-22.714 [after removal of TyG index extreme values]), and proximal colon or both adenomas (OR 3.043, 95% CI 1.186-7.810). Subgroup analysis revealed that the association was found to be present only in participants of all age groups who were either male or without obesity, hyperglycemia, hypertension, or dyslipidemia (p < 0.05). ROC curves illustrated that the TyG index had good predictive efficacy for identifying recurrence, especially for patients with two or more adenomas (AUC 0.777, 95% CI 0.648-0.907)., Conclusions: An increase in the TyG index is associated with an increased risk of adenoma occurrence and recurrence, with a stronger association with the latter., (© 2024. Background: To investigate the incidence of depression in middle-aged and elderly patients with diabetes in China and the influencing factors to provide a theoretical basis to improve the mental health of middle-aged and elderly patients with diabetes and formulate prevention, control, and intervention strategies., Methods: The sample of this study was obtained from the China Health and Aging Tracking Survey (CHARLS) 2018 survey data, and middle-aged and older patients with diabetes(responding "Yes" to the questionnaire: "Have you ever been told by a doctor that you have diabetes or elevated blood glucose [including abnormal glucose tolerance and elevated fasting glucose]?") aged ≥ 45 years were selected as study subjects (n = 2,613 ). Depressive symptoms of the study subjects were determined using the simplified version of the Depression Scale for Epidemiological Surveys scores(a score ≥ 10 was defined as depression), influence factors were analyzed using binary logistic regression, and proportion of depressive symptoms was standardized using the sex ratio of the seventh census., Results: Among the 2,613 middle-aged and elderly patients with diabetes, 1782 (68.2%) had depressive symptoms and 831 (31.8%) had no depressive symptoms. There were 481 (27.0%) patients aged 45-59 years, 978 (54.9%) aged 60-74 years, and 323 (18.1%) aged ≥ 75 years. The depression rate among middle-aged and elderly Chinese patients with diabetes after standardization correction was 67.5%. Binary logistic regression results showed that age, education level, life satisfaction, marital satisfaction, self-rated health grade, somatic pain, visual impairment, physical disability, and the presence of comorbid chronic diseases were factors that influenced the onset of depression in middle-aged and elderly Chinese patients with diabetes (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: According to a survey analysis of the CHARLS 2018 data, depression is influenced by a combination of factors among middle-aged and elderly patients with diabetes in China. Objective: Despite the clear association of TyG-BMI with prediabetes and the progression of diabetes, no study to date has examined the relationship between TyG-BMI and the reversal of prediabetes to normoglycemia., Methods: 25,279 participants with prediabetes who had physical examinations between 2010 and 2016 were enrolled in this retrospective cohort study. The relationship between baseline TyG-BMI and regression to normoglycemia from prediabetes was examined using the Cox proportional hazards regression model in this study. Additionally, the nonlinear association between TyG-BMI and the likelihood of regression to normoglycemia was investigated using the Cox proportional hazards regression with cubic spline function. Competing risk multivariate Cox regression analysis was conducted, with progression to diabetes as a competing risk for prediabetes reversal to normoglycemia. Furthermore, subgroup analyses and a series of sensitivity analyses were performed., Results: After adjusting for covariates, the results showed that TyG-BMI was negatively associated with the probability of returning to normoglycemia (per 10 units, HR=0.970, 95% CI: 0.965, 0.976). They were also nonlinearly related, with an inflection point for TyG-BMI of 196.46. The effect size (HR) for TyG-BMI to the right of the inflection point (TyG-BMI ≥ 196.46) and the probability of return of normoglycemia was 0.962 (95% CI: 0.954, 0.970, per 10 units). In addition, the competing risks model found a negative correlation between TyG-BMI and return to normoglycemia (SHR=0.97, 95% CI: 0.96-0.98). Sensitivity analyses demonstrated the robustness of our results., Conclusion: This study demonstrated a negative and nonlinear relationship between TyG-BMI and return to normoglycemia in Chinese adults with prediabetes. Background and Aims: Obesity and insulin resistance are well-known important risk factors for hypertension. This study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of the triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) in the association between Chinese visceral obesity index (CVAI) and hypertension among Chinese middle-aged and older adults., Methods: A total of 10,322 participants aged 45 years and older from CHARLS (2011-2018) were included. Baseline data were collected in 2011 and hypertension incidence data were gathered during follow-up in 2013, 2015 and 2018. Multivariate logistic regression models were constructed to investigate the association of CVAI and TyG with the incidence of hypertension. Additionally, mediation analyses were conducted to evaluate the mediating role of the TyG index in the relationship between CVAI and hypertension. Subgroup analysis was also performed., Results: A total of 2,802 participants developed hypertension during the follow-up period. CVAI and TyG index were independently and significantly associated with hypertension incidence. Increasing quartiles of CVAI and TyG index were associated with high hypertension incidence in middle-aged and older adults. Background: The impact of triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index variations on chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression remains unexplored. To investigate the effects of the TyG index and its dynamic changes on CKD progression., Method: This prospective cohort study included data from 8,418 hypertensive participants. The exposure variable in this study was defined as the difference between the TyG index at the last visit from that at baseline. The study's outcome variable was the progression of CKD, defined as follows: for subjects with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥60 mL/min, a ≥30% decrease in eGFR with a final follow-up value <60 mL/min; for those with an eGFR <60 mL/min, a ≥50% decrease in eGFR; or terminal renal failure requiring dialysis., Results: During a median follow-up period of 48 months, 1077 patients were diagnosed with CKD progression. In the fully adjusted Model 3, patients with a change in the TyG index <0 exhibited a significantly decreased 13% risk of CKD progression (HR: 0.87, 95% CI: 0.76-0.98) compared to those with a change in the TyG index≥0 group. Subgroup analyses showed that changes in the TyG index significantly increased the risk of CKD progression only in patients with diastolic blood pressure (DBP) <90mmHg. Background: The atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in participants with abnormal glucose metabolism have been linked in previous studies. However, it was unclear whether AIP control level affects the further CVD incidence among with diabetes and pre-diabetes. Therefore, our study aimed to investigate the association between AIP control level with risk of CVD in individuals with abnormal glucose metabolism., Methods: Participants with abnormal glucose metabolism were included from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. CVD was defined as self-reporting heart disease and/or stroke. Using k-means clustering analysis, AIP control level, which was the log-transformed ratio of triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in molar concentration, was divided into five classes. The association between AIP control level and incident CVD among individuals with abnormal glucose metabolism was investigated multivariable logistic regression analysis and application of restricted cubic spline analysis., Results: 398 (14.97%) of 2,659 participants eventually progressed to CVD within 3 years. After adjusting for various confounding factors, comparing to class 1 with the best control of the AIP, the OR for class 2 with good control was 1.31 (95% CI, 0.90-1.90), the OR for class 3 with moderate control was 1.38 (95% CI, 0.99-1.93), the OR for class 4 with worse control was 1.46 (95% CI, 1.01-2.10), and the OR for class 5 with consistently high levels was 1.56 (95% CI, 1.03-2.37). In restricted cubic spline regression, the relationship between cumulative AIP index and CVD is linear. Further subgroup analysis demonstrated that the similar results were observed in the individuals with agricultural Hukou, history of smoking, diastolic blood pressure ≥ 80mmHg, and normal body mass index. In addition, there was no interaction between the AIP control level and the subgroup variables., Conclusions: In middle-aged and elderly participants with abnormal glucose metabolism, constant higher AIP with worst control may have a higher incidence of CVD.
