Introduction: The literature indicates that pandemics significantly impact the mental health of frontline health workers. While the effects of COVID-19 on the mental health of frontline nurses have been studied, their lived experiences remain insufficiently explored. Objective: This study aims to investigate the lived experience of nurses who were deployed to support Wuhan during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This study adopted a qualitative study design. A purposive sample of fifteen nurses were recruited from a group of nurses who supported Wuhan during COVID-19 pandemic. The data was collected during May and June 2020. Data collection occurred in May and June 2020, employing semistructured interviews conducted via telephone. Interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) was utilized to analyze the collected data by two independent researchers. This report follows the COREQ checklist. Results: Frontline nurses supporting Wuhan likened their experience to being on a battlefield. Four superordinate themes emerged: (1) mobilization for combating COVID-19; (2) rapid adaption to a dynamic high-stress environment; (3) navigating psychological distress; and (4) the journey home. Conclusion: This study offers comprehensive insights into the lived experience of nurses deployed from other provinces to assist COVID patients in Wuhan. The findings indicate that despite facing a variety of challenges, these frontline nurses were capable of rapid adaptation and successfully fulfilled their roles. Recommendations for future preparedness in public health emergencies are provided. Additionally, follow-up research is warranted to explore the long-term effects of frontline experience on the mental health of the nurses and their family members. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, based on X reservoir conditions from Dagang Oilfield, China (temperature: 104 °C, salinity: 26376 mg/L), from the perspective of reducing interfacial tension and emulsification performance, IAPES (isododecyl alcohol polyoxyethylene ether sulfonate) with high temperature and high salt resistance was selected and its performance was evaluated. Finally, physical simulation experiments were conducted to form an in situ viscosity-increasing emulsion to enhance oil displacement efficiency. The experimental results show that when the concentration of IAPES is 0.3 wt%, the ability to reduce the interfacial tension of oil and water is significant and it has good antiaging stability. In addition, the lower the shear rate, the higher the water content, and the worse the emulsion stability. Finally, physical simulation experiments show that IAPES can increase the recovery rate by at least 28% in a larger permeability range. Under the experimental research conditions, the injection process parameters-injection speed (0.4 mL min−1) and injection volume (0.3PV) were optimized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Acute skin failure (ASF) can happen in critically ill patients. Therefore, adequate knowledge and skills regarding ASF are essential to manage this disorder. The aim of this work was to investigate the nurses' knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) regarding ASF patients and to analyze its influencing factors in the intensive care unit., Methods: A multicenter cross-sectional study was performed in 10 tertiary hospitals in March 2022. Eligible nurses received a survey with a self-designed questionnaire about their KAP regarding ASF, which included three dimensions and a maximum score of 120. A higher score corresponded to better KAP., Results: A total of 255 nurses participated in this study. The mean KAP score was 75.6 ± 16.9. The mean scores of the knowledge, attitude, and practice dimensions were 26.2 ± 10.6, 38.2 ± 6.1, and 11.3 ± 4.3, respectively. The dimensions were ranked according to score (from low to high) as follows: knowledge (2.6 ± 1.1), practice (2.8 ± 1.1), and attitude (3.8 ± 0.6). Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that more training sessions and an advanced professional title were associated with higher KAP scores., Conclusions: The overall KAP score on ASF was low in nurses. Nurses had a positive attitude towards ASF, but their knowledge and practice required significant improvement. Those who had received more training and held a more advanced professional title exhibited higher KAP scores regarding ASF. Therefore, nurse managers should establish a relevant knowledge training system, strengthen relevant training, and improve nursing practices for ASF in order to achieve a high level of KAP in nurses who treat ASF patients., (© 2024 Japan Academy of Nursing Science.)

Gaotan-1 is the first high-yield well explored in the southern margin of Junggar Basin, China, which is a major breakthrough in the oil exploration for Xinjiang Oilfield Company. The well produced high-quality light crude oil with very low sulfur content and total acid number. However, serious sedimentation occurred in the wellbore during production, which seriously affects production. In this paper, the sediments from Gaotan-1 were separated into organic soluble and inorganic solid fractions. The organic compounds were characterized by high resolution mass spectrometry and high temperature gas chromatography. It was found that the organic matter was rich in asphaltenes with very high molecular condensation. The high condensation compounds should be formed in the high temperature reservoir environment, which was extracted by the supercritical fluid formed by the light hydrocarbons under the ultra-high temperature and pressure. Due to its super-dissolving ability, the high-condensation hydrocarbons and asphaltenes are brought out of the reservoir, and deposit gradually mixed with silty sand on the wall of the wellbore as the temperature and pressure dropped in the process of oil exploitation. The advantage of multimodal transport is that it can deliver the goods to their destination in a reasonable combination of transport modes while ensuring security and punctuality. Multimodal transportation can effectively reduce logistics costs, improve logistics efficiency, and reduce environmental pollution. In the process of multimodal transportation, due to the interference of natural factors (weather, terrain, etc.) and some special human factors, it may have different degrees of impact on the transportation time and transportation safety of different transportation modes. Therefore, when choosing a transportation method, it is necessary to consider the transportation time and transportation safety under the interference. However, the current research on multimodal transport has not considered the impact of external interference on transportation time and transportation safety. Compared with other modes of transportation, external interference has a relatively small impact on railway transportation. Railways can safely deliver goods to their destinations on time. Under the background of China's huge railway network and advanced heavy-duty technology, this paper establishes a multimodal transport route selection model for considering railway as the core, introduces time penalty cost and damage compensation cost, and takes the lowest comprehensive transportation cost as the model objective under the premise of considering transportation reliability and transportation safety. Finally, taking a multimodal transport network in China as an example, an improved ant colony algorithm is used to solve the model and the results verify the rationality of the model. The Three Gorges Reservoir is one of the areas with the most serious landslide hazards in China. Landslide susceptibility indicates where landslides are prone to occur in the future under the influences of certain geoenvironmental and triggering conditions and is an important way for landslide prevention. This work employs multi-source and three-temporal landslide monitoring data (geology, terrain, hydrology, and remote sensing data) to reveal the dynamic change of landslide susceptibility with time in the Badong-Zigui section in the Three Gorges area. Nine influence factors for landslides (land use, aspect, engineering rock group (ERG), slope, distance to river (DTR), relative relief, normalized difference water index (NDWI), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and annual cumulative rainfall (ACR)) are generated from the monitoring data. The algorithms of slope unit segmentation and deep neural networks are adopted to conduct landslide susceptibility evaluations in the 3 years of 2002, 2007, and 2017 and to investigate the dynamic change of landslide susceptibility. Moreover, this work also reveals the dynamic response of landslide susceptibility to the changing factors of rainfall, reservoir water fluctuation, soil moisture, and land use. Some new viewpoints are suggested as follows. (1) The main factors affecting landslide occurrence are DTR, NDWI, relative relief, and ERG. Among them, DTR contributes most in all the 3 years; thus, reservoir water fluctuation has the most important impact on landslide occurrence in the study area. (2) From 2002 to 2007, the new high-susceptibility areas mainly appeared along the Yangtze River and also distributed around the roads. From 2007 to 2017, more than half of the new high-susceptibility areas were distributed around the roads, and susceptibility increases also occurred in the mountainous areas far from the Yangtze River. (3) The development of landslide susceptibility from 2002 to 2007 was mainly caused by the rising of reservoir water level as well as road construction. The change of landslide susceptibility from 2007 to 2017 was mainly caused by rainfall and road construction. This work may provide some clues on landslide prevention and control according to the dynamic development of landslide susceptibility and the causes of the susceptibility changes. With the growing demand for oil energy and a decrease in the recoverable reserves of conventional oil, the development of viscous oil, bitumen, and shale oil is playing an important role in the oil industry. Bohai Bay in China is an offshore oilfield that was developed through polymer flooding process. This study investigated the pore-scale displacement of medium viscosity oil by hydrophobically associating water-soluble polymers and purely viscous glycerin solutions. The role and contribution of elasticity on medium oil recovery were revealed and determined. Comparing the residual oil distribution after polymer flooding with that after glycerin flooding at a dead end, the results showed that the residual oil interface exhibited an asymmetrical “U” shape owing to the elasticity behavior of the polymer. This phenomenon revealed the key of elasticity enhancing oil recovery. Comparing the results of polymer flooding with that of glycerin flooding at different water flooding sweep efficiency levels, it was shown that the ratio of elastic contribution on the oil displacement efficiency increased as the water flooding sweep efficiency decreased. Additionally, the experiments on polymers, glycerin solutions, and brines displacement medium viscosity oil based on a constant pressure gradient at the core scale were carried out. The results indicated that the elasticity of the polymer can further reduce the saturation of medium viscosity oil with the same number of capillaries. In this study, the elasticity effect on the medium viscosity oil interface and the elasticity contribution on the medium viscosity oil were specified and clarified. The results of this study are promising with regard to the design and optimum polymers applied in an oilfield and to an improvement in the recovery of medium viscosity oil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Selection of a qualified pitcher has relied previously on qualitative indices; here, both quantitative and qualitative indices including pitching statistics, defense, mental skills, experience, and managers' recognition were collected, and an analytic hierarchy process was used to rank baseball pitchers. The participants were 8 experts who ranked characteristics and statistics of 15 baseball pitchers who comprised the first round of potential representatives for the Chinese Taipei National Baseball team. The results indicated a selection rate that was 91% consistent with the official national team roster, as 11 pitchers with the highest scores who were recommended as optimal choices to be official members of the Chinese Taipei National Baseball team actually participated in the 2009 Baseball World Cup. An analytic hierarchy can aid in selection of qualified pitchers, depending on situational and practical needs; the method could be extended to other sports and team-selection situations.
