Against the background of building a multi-environmental co-governance system, it is of great importance to systematically explore how public environmental attention (PEA) affects corporate green innovation (GI). Based on the panel data of Chinese A-share listed enterprises of heavily polluting industries from 2013 to 2020, this paper empirically explores the role of PEA in GI and examines the moderating impacts of media visibility and media favorability. The results indicate that the higher degree of public environmental attention, the more corporate green innovation. After adopting alternative explained variable, instrumental variable analysis and other methods, this conclusion still remains robust. This study also finds that both media visibility (MV) and media favorability (MF) generate significantly positive moderating impacts on the relationship between PEA and GI. Moreover, threshold model tests show that with the increase of MV, the promoting effect of PEA on GI is significantly enhanced, while there exists no threshold for MF. Furthermore, the heterogeneity analysis indicates that PEA mainly prompts symbolic green innovation of enterprises, and the PEA-GI relationship is more obvious in non-state-owned companies and regions with higher marketization process. Abstract: Chinese grasslands have undergone great changes in land use in recent decades. Approximately 18.2% of the present arable land in China originated from the cultivation of grassland, but its impact on the carbon cycle has not been fully understood. This study was conducted in situ for 3 years to assess the comprehensive effects of cultivation of temperate steppe on soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil respiration rates as well as ecosystem respiration. As compared with those in the Stipa baicalensis steppe, the SOC concentrations at depths of 0–10 and 10–20cm in the spring wheat field were found to have decreased by 38.3 and 17.4% respectively from 29.5 and 21.9gkg−1 to 18.2 and 18.1gkg−1 after a cultivation period of 30 years. Accordingly, the total amounts of soil respiration through the growing season (from April to September) in 2002, 2003 and 2004 were 265.2, 282.2 and 237.4gCm−2 respectively in the spring wheat field, which were slightly lower than the values of 342.2, 412.0 and 312.1gCm−2 in the S. baicalensis steppe, while ecosystem respiration of 690.9, 991.2 and 569.6gCm−2 respectively in the spring wheat field were markedly higher than those of 447.0, 470.9 and 429.7gCm−2 in the steppe plot. Similar seasonal variations of ecosystem respiration and soil respiration existed in both sample sites. Respiration rates were higher and greater differences existed in both ecosystem respiration and soil respiration during the exuberant growth stage of plants (from mid-June to mid-August). However, in the slower-growth period of the growing season (before late May and after late August), the CO2 effluxes of the two sample sites were similar and remained at a relatively low level. The results also showed that ecosystem respiration and soil respiration were under similar environmental controls in both sample sites. Soil water content at a depth of 0–10cm and soil temperatures at 5 and 10cm were the main factors affecting the variations in ecosystem respiration and soil respiration rates in droughty years of 2002 and 2004 and in the rainy 2003, respectively. This study suggests that the conversion of the grassland to the spring wheat field has increased the carbon loss of the whole ecosystem due to the change of vegetation cover type and significantly reduced the carbon storage of surface soil. In addition, the tillage of grassland had different effects on ecosystem respiration and soil respiration. The effects were also dissimilar in different growth stages, which should be fully considered when assessing and predicting the effects of cultivation on the net CO2 balance of grassland ecosystems. To reveal the speciation and pollution status of heavy metal(loid) s (HMs) in the dewatered sewage sludge(SS) of municipal wastewater treatment plants(MWTPs) in China, SS samples were collected from 40 MWTPs located in different regions of China. The total concentrations and geochemical fractions of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn in the SS samples were analyzed. The ecological risks induced by HMs in the SS were assessed based on the toxicity characteristic leaching procedure(TCLP), risk assessment code(RAC), and potential ecological risk index(RI). The median values of HMs in SS followed the order Zn > Cu > Cr > Pb > Ni > As > Cd. The general attainment rates of HMs in SS were satisfactory(>90%). As showed a generally even distribution among all the fractions; Cd and Zn mainly existed in the reducible fraction; Cr mainly occurred in the residual fraction, followed by oxidizable and reducible fractions; Cu mainly occurred in the oxidizable fraction; Ni occurred mainly as exchangeable forms; and Pb mainly occurred in the reducible and residual fractions, with its exchangeable form being the lowest fraction. According to the RAC method, the environmental risks induced by HMs in the SS followed the order Ni > As > Zn > Cd > Cu > Cr > Pb. The ecological risk of Ni was high; Zn, As, and Cd had a medium level of risk; Cr and Cu had a low level of risk; and the risk of Pb was negligible. According to the RI method, Cd and Cu showed the highest potential ecological risk, indicating that these are the primary HM pollutants in the SS. However, if the agricultural application of SS is carried out in accordance with the national standards, the overall level of risk from soil HM pollution is considered relatively low.

The value realization of agro-ecological products is of great significance to China's food security, ecological protection, and strategic blueprint. We reviewed the concepts and boundaries of agricultural ecosystem and agro-ecological products (including agricultural products, other ecosystem services and dis-services). Based on the emergy method, the agricultural ecosystem service quantification method was proposed and the ecosystem services and dis-services of typical agricultu-ral products per unit area in China were calculated. Further, the type-specific values realization pathways of the agro-ecological products were discussed. It was found that 1) the values of the agro-ecological products, which has been realized through market mechanism, can further be added by the means of increasing green degrees or special degree, and establishing agricultural industrial chains; 2) the values of the agro-ecological products, which have not yet been realized through market mechanism, should be compensated or realized through ecological product empowerment and regional shared brand quality commitment; 3) the values of the agro-ecological products can be preserved or increased through reducing the harmfulness of N, P, pesticides and insecticides to ecosystem and human health by multi-approaches-based GHG emission reduction, land nutrient management strategies, and rational landscape architecture; 4) some financial solutions can be promoted, e.g ., cancellation of secondary agricultural subsidies, the establishment of ecological trading platform and the certification of ecological products. This study contributes to propose the value realization pathways of agro-ecological products, advance the development of green finance, and promote the modernization of natural resource management capabilities.

This study investigated the relationship among emotional intelligence, gratitude, and subjective well-being in a sample of university students. A total of 365 undergraduates completed the emotional intelligence scale, the gratitude questionnaire, and the subjective well-being measures. The results of the structural equation model showed that emotional intelligence is positively associated with gratitude and subjective well-being, that gratitude is positively associated with subjective well-being, and that gratitude partially mediates the positive relationship between emotional intelligence and subjective well-being. Bootstrap test results also revealed that emotional intelligence has a significant indirect effect on subjective well-being through gratitude.

Using the static opaque chamber method, the soil respiration rates (SR) were measured through the continuous experiments in situ in semiarid Stipa grandis steppe in Xilin River Basin of Inner Mongolia, China from June 2001 to June 2003, in parallel, the difference between the SR and the ecosystem respiration rates (TER) were compared. The results indicated that the seasonal variations of the SR and TER were obvious with higher emissions in growing season and a relatively low efflux level in non-growing season, furthermore, the negative effluxes were found in the observation site in winter; the annual CO2 efflux of total ecosystem ranged from 160.5 gC/(m2 x a) to 162.8 gC/(m2 x a) and that of soil ranged from 118.7 gC/(m2 x a) to 152.3 gC/(m2 x a). The annual SR accounted for about 74.0% to 93.5% of the annual TER, but the results of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) indicated that the difference between the annual average TER and SR did not reach the significance level of 0.05. The TER was under similar environmental controls as SR, in growing seasons of drought years, the variations of soil moisture at 0-10 cm and 10-20 cm depth could account for 79.1%-95.6% of the changes of the SR and TER, but in non-growing season, more than 75% of the variations of the SR and TER could be explained by the changes of the ground temperature of soil surface layers.
