Microbes play a key role in the biology, ecology, and evolution of arthropods. Despite accumulating data on microbial communities in arthropods that feed on plants using piercing-sucking mouthparts, we still lack a comprehensive understanding of the composition and assembly factors of the microbiota, particularly in field-collected spider mites. Here, we applied 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing to investigate the characters of the bacterial community in 140 samples representing 420 mite individuals, belonging to eight Tetranychus species (Acari: Tetranychidae) collected from 26 sites in China. The results showed that the bacterial composition of spider mites varied significantly among different species, locations, and plants. The environment showed a significant influence on the bacterial community of spider mites, with different relative contributions. Latitude and precipitation were found to be the main factors influencing the bacterial community composition. The dissimilarity of bacterial community and geographical distance between mite locations were significantly correlated. The assembly of spider mite bacterial communities seemed to be mainly influenced by stochastic processes. Furthermore, the symbiont Cardinium was found to be important in shaping the microbiota of many Tetranychus species. The relative abundance of Cardinium was > 50% in T. viennensis, T. urticae G, T. urticae R, and T. turkestani. Removing Cardinium reads from our analysis significantly changed Shannon diversity index and weighted beta diversity in these species. Altogether, this study provides novel insights into bacterial diversity patterns that contribute to our knowledge of the symbiotic relationships between arthropods and their bacterial communities. Over the past three decades, China's government has implemented many projects under its ecological compensation policy, including paying compensation fees for habitat creation to redress natural habitat losses caused by development. However, a critical evaluation of both the policy design and its ecological outcomes, has not previously been carried out. We assemble diverse data sources to provide the first evaluation of China's eco‐compensation policy and practice, identifying several challenges. In policy, the pricing of forest restoration fees is insufficient in several provinces, and there is no requirement for use of biodiversity metrics or for ecological equivalence of compensation and losses. In practice, only 23% of a sample of 31 developments applied quantitative biodiversity metrics, and fewer than 1% of China's local governments have disclosed information regarding compensation implementation. Thus, to improve the validity of its compensation policy and practice to better secure biodiversity, China may need to embrace higher compensation standards, having first prevented ecological losses where possible. A comprehensive characterisation of the pore structure in shale oil reservoirs is essential for forecasting oil production and exploration risks. This study forecasted these risks in the oil-rich Songliao Basin using combination of high-resolution field emission scanning electron microscopy and quantitative X-ray diffraction to analyze the pore genesis and evolution mode within the first member of the Cretaceous Qingshankou Formation (K2qn1). The results showed the dominance of inorganic pores over organic pores, wherein diagenetic processes, such as compaction, pressure solution, and cementation, were responsible for the destruction of pore structure in the formation. Notably, the pores formed by dissolution and shrinkage cracks resulting from clay mineral transformation improved the oil storage space. Furthermore, according to the geochemical data and clay composition, the K2qn1 shale is in the middle diagenetic stage A, which can be further subdivided into A1 and A2 stages from top to bottom. The porosity slowly decreased in both sub-stages A1 and A2, wherein the decrease was stable in the latter. Compared to large companies, the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in China are more likely to fail in developing green supply chain management (GSCM). Capturing its failure factors could be useful for managers and policymakers to decide how green supply chains can be successfully designed and developed. Meanwhile, these factors can include complex interrelationships. Properly dealing with them can help identify the critical factors which can assist decision-makers to efficiently manage green supply chains. This study thus proposes a comprehensive framework to explore and understand failure factors of GSCM in China's SMEs to improve the opportunities of GSCM in China. The fuzzy synthetic evaluation (FSE) and decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) are combined and applied to identify critical failure factors through translating interrelationships in a hierarchical cause–effect model. The results indicate that collaboration and support are the most critical perspectives for GSCM, and these two perspectives also interrelated with each other and affect the perspectives of knowledge, technology and economy to varying degrees. Moreover, the critical failure factors include lack of top management support, poor guidance from authorities, difficulty in supplier selection and inadequate supplier commitment. Wolbachia is a maternally inherited endosymbiont of the phylum α‐Proteobacteria that is found widely in arthropods and nematodes. Wolbachia is the most common endosymbiont in butterflies (Lepidoptera) and it manipulates host reproduction mainly by inducing cytoplasmic incompatibility, male killing, and feminization. We studied the prevalence patterns of Wolbachia in 52 butterfly species from five families collected in southern China. A substantial infection incidence was determined in the study region, where 18 out of the 52 butterfly species (35%) were infected, including members of the families Hesperiidae, Lycaenidae, Nymphalidae, Papilionidae, and Pieridae. Based on multi‐locus sequence typing (MLST) and Wolbachia cell surface protein (WSP) profiles, seven unique sequence types (STs) and six wsp alleles were detected. One MLST haplotype was detected for the first time (ST‐wPcau). Most of the identified Wolbachia STs belonged to supergroup B, those found in two Ypthima spp. belonged to supergroup A. Many STs were shared among various insect species; the most widespread strain in our samples, ST‐41, was detected in seven butterfly species from four families. • Calculating municipal-level carbon emissions using provincial-level patterns have produced biased results. • Time-series smoothing can greatly improve the accuracy of carbon emission estimation. • Aggregation of carbon emissions in China has further increased. • Per-capita carbon emissions of Chinese cities are gradually peaking. Carbon emissions reduction has become a world consensus. Cities have an essential role to play in addressing emission reductions. However, previous studies have estimated China's municipal-level carbon emissions based on provincial-level emission patterns, and such a top-down carbon emission accounting approach has led to biased results. Therefore, this study employed an incremental learning ensemble model and a Savitzky-Golay algorithm tomeasure carbon emission distribution and unearth patterns at the municipal level based on nighttime light (NTL) and regional development characteristics (GDP, population, patents, industry structure). The performance of the proposed method is substantially better than its counterparts in terms of municipal-level estimation (R-square boosted by 20.64%). This research shows significant difference in carbon emission mechanisms between provinces and cities and demonstrates that carbon emissions are time-continuous. It also shows that per-capita carbon emissions are peaking in many China's cities, except in some heavy industrial cities. Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) are two common forms of primary neurodegenerative dementia. Mutations in 3 genes (PSEN1, PSEN2, and APP) have been identified in patients with early-onset AD. Methods: We performed gene sequencing in PSEN1, PSEN2, and APP in 61 AD and 35 FTD Chinese patients. Amyloid load using 11C-labeled Pittsburgh compound B (11C-PIB) positron emission tomography (PET) and cerebral glucose metabolism using 18F-fludeoxyglucose PET were evaluated in patients carrying mutations. Results: We identified 1 known pathogenic PSEN1 (p.His163Arg, c.488A>G) mutation and 3 novel PSEN2 mutations in 6 patients. The novel mutation PSEN2 (p.His169Asn, c.505C>A) was identified in 1 patient with familial late-onset AD and in 1 sporadic FTD patient. The PSEN2 (p.Val214Leu, c.640G>T; p.Lys82Arg, c.245A>G) mutations were identified in 2 early-onset AD patients and 1 early-onset AD patient, respectively. Three patients with PSEN2 mutations were observed to have PIB retention on the cortex and striatum. One patient with the FTD phenotype was not observed to have PIB retention. Conclusion: PSEN2 mutations are common in the Chinese Han population with a history of AD and FTD. Pathogenic mutations or risk variants in the PSEN2 gene can influence both FTD and AD phenotypic traits and show variations in neuroimaging characterization. © 2014 S. The China's chemical industry has been endeavouring to promote sustainable development through practicing green supply chain management (GSCM). This paper proposes a multi-criteria decision framework with twenty practices to guide companies in the industry to enact GSCM effectively. The exploratory factor analysis (EFA) has been used to cluster the proposed practices. We found five aspects, including economic initiatives, environmental management, eco-design, resource recycling, and stakeholder and employee, constitute the underlying structure of GSCM. A mixed decision tool combining the entropy weight method (EWM) and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) has been developed and applied to identify key factors. Official website information has been collected and used to analyse the website contents of five benchmarking companies in the China's chemical industry. The results reveal that the aspects of environmental management, eco-design and resource recycling are the most important GSCM themes. Moreover, the top five practices are top management support, performing life cycle assessment, managing environmental risks, advancing recycling technologies and integrating reverse logistics. Xuedou Mountain, in Ningbo in Zhejiang province, recognized as a national park since the 1980s and one of the five renowned mountains of Buddhism in China, has been receiving more than one million visitors annually since 1991. Background: Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus spp. (VRE) have spread all over the world. The present study aims to investigate the species distribution, specimen type and susceptibilities of Enterococcal species collected from Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital from 2013 to 2018. Additionally, distribution of VRE and prevalence of van gene among VRE isolates were also analyzed.Methods: The susceptibilities of 3913 Enterococcus isolates were retrospectively investigated. Among these strains, 60 VRE strains were further anazlyed in this study. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of the VRE strains towards vancomycin, teicoplanin and linezolid were determined by E-test. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA sequencing were used to investigate the prevalence of van genes among VRE. Furthermore, the sequence types (STs) of VRE strains were explored by multi-locus sequence typing (MLST).Results: Among the 3913 enterococci isolates, Enterococcus faecalis (n = 1870, 47.8%) and Enterococcus faecium (1738, 44.4%) were the main isolates. These Enterococcus strains were mainly isolated from urine (n = 1673, 42.8%), followed by secretions (n = 583, 14.9%) and ascites (n = 554, 14.2%). VRE displayed a decreasing trend year by year. Molecular analysis revealed that 49 out of 60 VRE isolates carried vanA gene, 10 carried vanM, and 1 carried both vanA and vanM genes. Sixteen distinct STs were identified among the 58 VREM, with ST78 (n = 16), ST192 (n = 8) and ST570 (n = 7) being the most dominant ones.Conclusions: E. faecalis and E. faecium were the major enterococci strains which are the main pathogens of urinary traction infections; vanA and vanM were the main determinants conferring resistance to vancomycin; ST78, ST192 and ST570 were the leading STs of VREM which displayed a decreasing trend of prevalence year by year. The self-designed HaiYang-2B (HY-2B) satellite was launched on 24 October 2018 in China at 22:57 UT in a 99.34° inclination sun-synchronous orbit. The Scanning Microwave Radiometer (SMR) on the core observatory has the capability to provide near-real-time multi-channel brightness temperature (Tb) observations, which are designed mainly for improving the level of marine forecasting and monitoring, serving the development and utilization of marine resources. After internal calibration and ocean calibration, the first effort to retrieve land surface snow parameters was performed in this study, which obtained extremely low accuracy both in snow extent and snow mass. Accordingly, land inter-sensor calibration was carried out between SMR and the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) in order to broaden the research and application of SMR data on the Earth's land surface. Finally, we evaluated the consistency of the snow extent and snow mass derived from the initial and land-calibrated SMR data. The results indicated that a systematic SMR cold deviation whose magnitude depends on the channel is present for all the compared channels. After intercalibration, the conformity of the snow extent and snow mass were substantially improved compared to before; the relative bias of the snow extent and snow mass decreased from −49.97% to 2.97% and from −51.71% to 3.01%, respectively. As the world's largest developing nation, China has emerged as the predominant carbon emitter due to its swift industrialization and urbanization. Achieving low-carbon development in China necessitates a tailored approach that accounts for each city's unique industrial phase, technological advancements, urbanization level, and resources. This research endeavors to elucidate the nonlinear mechanism influencing carbon emissions in Chinese cities using a machine-learning framework, drawing on panel data from 290 cities from 2000 to 2017. The result indicates that China is experiencing a transition in the primary drivers of carbon emissions from the agriculture sector to the industrial and service sectors. A city transitions to the carbon decoupling phase when the outputs of primary, secondary, and tertiary industries surpass 1500, 125,000, and 100,000 CNY per capita, respectively. Additionally, we observed that expanding the urban built-up area beyond 10% can significantly mitigate carbon emission intensity. However, the study also highlights a critical challenge: the initial emission-reducing effects of innovation in burgeoning high-tech industries are negated by the higher emissions from traditional industries. Moreover, our analysis indicates that R&D investments exceeding RMB 8000 per capita may paradoxically lead to an increase in emissions. With these conclusions of nonlinearity, we emphasize designing policies tailored to the specificities of each city, stressing the importance of adaptability in policy creation. • The carbon emission of the secondary sector is decoupled as output rises. • High tertiary sector output per capita will reduce carbon emissions. • Technological application limits the carbon-reducing effect of innovation output. • Traditional industries mask the low-emission from technological innovation. • Constructing accurate nonlinear driving patterns by ensemble learning algorithms. Solar-driven atmospheric water harvesting (SAWH) has been recognized as a promising strategy to alleviate the freshwater crisis. Herein, we developed an efficient porous polymeric foam, LiCl@CCP-PPy, which has low preparation cost, strong adaptability and portability, and is very suitable for use as a wicking material in SAWH systems. LiCl@CCP-PPy contains abundant –NH 2 and –OH groups. These hydrophilic groups and excellent pore structure (porosity is 80.22 %) make it have a good moisture absorption effect even in low humidity environment. The moisture absorption capacity can reach 2.86 g/g at 35 % RH and 25 °C, and 4.48 g/g at 25 °C and 90 % RH. The saturated water absorption effect was 27.48 g/g. LiCl@CCP-PPy can be scaled up for production. In addition, LiCl@CCP-PPy has a high light absorption rate of more than 90 %, and the strong photothermal conversion ability of Polypyrene (PPy) enables the material to warm up rapidly under natural light, thereby accelerating the desorption process (96 % desorption rate at 1 kW/m2 for 3 h). Based on the above properties, LiCl@CCP-PPy was applied to the Tengger desert in northwest China. China is pursuing aggressive action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its coal-dominated electric power system. Two key strategies are power market reform and carbon pricing. This paper investigates the combined effects of these two strategies in reducing CO 2 emissions from power system operations. We develop an economic dispatch model to simulate hourly power supply system operation in China Southern Power Grid in 2018 under fifteen carbon pricing scenarios; these reflect a wide range of policy ambition, from today's carbon prices to much higher ones that aim to instigate aggressive emission mitigation. Our results show that moderate carbon pricing alone is insufficient to effectively reduce CO 2 emissions without concurrent power market reform. With power market reform and as carbon prices increase, large coal units supplemented by energy storage witness higher use rates as they supplant smaller coal-fired generators, until a carbon price of 300 RMB/TCO 2 phases out coal use in favor of natural gas. Only at carbon prices higher than 300 RMB/TCO 2 do emissions begin to decrease appreciably. Geographic disparities emerge among the five provinces that comprise the Southern Power Grid, with Guangdong witnessing the most CO 2 emission reduction at high carbon prices, while emission reductions in other provinces are negligible. Carbon pricing also dramatically increases total power system costs, even at low carbon prices. Our results show the necessity of introducing power market reform and carbon pricing policies concurrently if the goal is to reduce CO 2 emissions, with the ultimate goal being a carbon price significantly greater than 300 RMB/TCO 2. Because both options will be necessary, our research maps a path to deep emission reductions in China Southern Power Grid for investors, analysts, and policy makers as discussions regarding both reforms accelerate. • We assess combined effects of carbon pricing and power market reform in China. • Carbon pricing cannot reduce CO 2 emissions without power market reform. • CO 2 reductions from carbon pricing are negligible until prices of 300 RMB/TCO 2. • Even with low carbon prices, power supply system cost increase appreciably. • Existing system can only achieve shallow decarbonization, even at 1000RMB/TCO 2. • Study assesses renewable potential using data with high spatio-temporal resolution. • China's wind and solar can provide 1.5 times its 2050 expected electricity demand. • There are disparities in renewable development potential across China's regions. • Wind and solar energy have different but complementary seasonal patterns. • Wind exhibits high seasonal variability while solar exhibits high intra-day variability. This study aims to provide a detailed spatial and temporal characterization of China's wind and solar energy resource potential. Quantifying this potential is necessary to identify pathways to achieve a deep decarbonization of its electric power system as this nation pursues carbon neutrality by 2060. This study identifies and characterizes sites suitable for onshore wind and ground-mounted solar PV deployment, quantifies their electricity generation potential, and assesses their spatial heterogeneity across the country and temporal variability throughout the seasons. Resource potential estimates are obtained by combining the latest data with high spatiotemporal resolution with a geographic information system (GIS) analysis that compiles information on wind and solar energy resources, land use, surface elevation and slope, and geomorphology. Results show that China's vast resource potential for wind and solar is enough to provide one-and-a-half times 2050′s expected electricity demand. Results also demonstrate that China's resource-rich areas do not correspond to demand centers, except for provinces like Shandong, Hebei, and Jiangsu, which have high electricity demand and renewable potential. The seasonal patterns show that China should develop wind and solar energy simultaneously, to exploit wind's highest potential during winter and early spring, and solar's higher production during late spring and summer. These findings shed light on the sites that should be prioritized for renewable development and the need to expand power transmission capacity connecting energy-rich areas with load centers, and energy storage capacity and flexible resources to balance variable renewable output with load. Objectives: Dental anxiety remains widespread among children, may continue into adulthood and affect their oral health-related quality of life and clinical management. The aim of the study was to explore the trend of children's dental anxiety over time and potential risk factors., Design: Longitudinal study., Methods: Children aged between 5 and 12 years were investigated with the Chinese version of face version of Children's Fear Survey Schedule-Dental Subscale (CFSS-DS) and Frankl Behavior Rating scale from 2008 to 2017, and influential factors were explored., Results: Clinical data were available from 1061 children, including 533 (50.2%) male participants and 528 (49.8%) female participants. The total CFSS-DS scores ranged from 16 to 66, with a mean of 24.8±10.3. The prevalence of dental anxiety is 11.59%. No significant differences in total CFSS-DS scores between girls and boys were found. According to the Frankl scale, 238 children were allocated to the uncooperative group and the remaining 823 children were allocated to the cooperative group. Scores of CFSS-DS were negatively correlated with the clinical behaviour level of Frankl. Children aged 11-12 years old had significantly decreased scores compared with other age groups, and there was a decline in the scores of the group aged 8-10 years old over time. The factor analysis divided 15 items of CFSS-DS into four factors, and the total scores of 'less invasive oral procedures' items belonging to factor III decreased significantly over time in the group aged 8-10 years old., Conclusions: Age is a significant determinant for children's dental anxiety, and dental anxiety outcomes have improved for Chinese children aged 8-10 years. Cerebral β-amyloid deposits and regional glucose metabolism assessed by PET are used to distinguish between Alzheimer disease (AD) and other dementia syndromes. In the present multicenter study, we estimated the prevalence of β-amyloid deposits on PET imaging in a wide variety of dementia syndromes and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) within a memory clinic population. Methods: Of the 1,193 consecutive patients with cognitive impairment (CI) who received 1 11 C-PIB PET or 18 F-AV45 PET or both 11 C-PIB PET and 18 F-AV45 PET, 960 were diagnosed with AD, 36 with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), 5 with dementia with Lewy bodies, 144 with MCI, 29 with vascular dementia, 4 with corticobasal syndrome, and 15 with unclassifiable dementia. Baseline clinical diagnoses were independently established without access to PET imaging results. Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) genotype analysis was performed on CI patients and 231 sex- and age-matched controls. Results: Of the 1,193 CI patients, 860 (72.1%) were amyloid-positive. The prevalence of amyloid positivity in AD and MCI patients was 86.8% (833/960) and 9.7% (14/144), respectively. In FTD patients, the prevalence of β-amyloid deposits was 5.6% (2/36). In the 4 corticobasal syndrome patients, 2 were amyloid-positive. Three of the 5 patients with dementia with Lewy bodies showed amyloid positivity, as did 6 of the 29 vascular dementia (20.7%) patients. The ApoEε4 allele frequency was significantly increased in amyloid-positive CI patients (30.5%) as compared with other amyloid-negative CI patients (14%) or controls (7.3%). Conclusion: Amyloid imaging may potentially be the most helpful parameter for differential diagnosis in dementia, particularly to distinguish between AD and FTD. Two new compounds, triacremoniate (1) and dietziamide C (2) along with known compounds β-Adenosine (3) and acrepyrone A (4) were obtained from the mangrove-derived fungus Acremonium citrinum. MMF4. Their structures were unambiguously determined by extensive spectroscopic methods, including UV, IR, HRESIMS and NMR. Objectives: Linezolid-resistant Enterococcus have spread worldwide. This study investigated the prevalence of linezolid-non-susceptible Enterococcus (LNSE) and the potential mechanism and molecular epidemiology of LNSE isolates from Nanjing, China., Methods: Linezolid susceptibility of 2555 Enterococcus was retrospectively determined by Etest. Vancomycin and teicoplanin MICs were determined for LNSE by Etest. PCR and DNA sequencing were used to investigate the potential molecular mechanism. Clonal relatedness between LNSE isolates was analysed by MLST. WGS was also performed., Results: A total of 27 Enterococcus isolates (24 Enterococcus faecalis, 3 Enterococcus faecium) with linezolid MICs of 4-48μg/mL were identified, among which 20 E. faecalis and 3 E. faecium were positive for optrA. No mutations were found in genes encoding domain V of 23S rRNA or ribosomal proteins L3/L4; the cfr gene was not found. The 24 linezolid-non-susceptible E. faecalis were classified into eight STs (ST16, ST480, ST476, ST631, ST585, ST428, ST25 and ST689). The three linezolid-non-susceptible E. faecium were classified as ST17, ST400 and ST195. Comparison of the deduced OptrA amino acid sequences of the 23 optrA-positive isolates by PCR-based sequencing and WGS with that of the original OptrA from E. faecalis E349 revealed seven variants (KD, EDP, EDM, D, EDD, RDK and DP) in 16 isolates, with no mutations in the remaining 7 isolates. optrA was found downstream of fexA by searching the pE349 sequence based on WGS data., Conclusions: Emergence of LNSE with optrA-mediated resistance and clonal dissemination of ST16 E. faecalis in our hospital may pose a potential public-health threat., (Copyright © 2019 International Society for Chemotherapy of Infection and Cancer. Objectives: This study identified the prevalence of depression and tested the influence of acculturation and family dynamics on depressive symptoms, among a community sample of older Chinese Americans., Method: Data came from a survey of 385 Chinese Americans aged 55 and older (Mage = 72.4 years, SD = 8.7) living in a large metropolitan area in the American Southwest. The survey was administered in 2013 through face-to-face interviews. Depressive symptoms were assessed with the 12-item Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale., Results: Approximately 19.5% of the sample reported mild depressive symptoms and an additional 8.5% reported moderate depressive symptoms. Three-step hierarchical regression analyses indicated that smaller family support network size and more family conflict were risk factors for depressive symptoms. The effect of acculturation was not significantly associated with depressive symptoms after controlling for family dynamics., Discussion: Family support and conflict play a prominent role in explaining depressive symptoms among Chinese American older adults. The effect of acculturation is minimal when older adults have supportive families and good health. Interventions or services aimed at promoting family harmony for members of this population should be considered.

Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) is the second most common subtype of degenerative dementia. To our knowledge, available information about the clinical features of DLB in China remains limited. Our study therefore aimed to address this issue. Thirty-seven Chinese patients with probable DLB were recruited for this study. All subjects underwent neuropsychological assessment by trained neurologists, as well as undergoing MRI, 11C-PIB PET scans for Aβ deposition and 18F-FDG PET scans for regional cerebral glucose metabolism. Our results showed that the gender ratio of patients was 16:21 (F:M). The mean age of onset was 69.5 ± 9.0 years and the mean age at diagnosis was 71.8 ± 9.1 years. At diagnosis, the prevalence of three core clinical features of DLB was: 64.9% for fluctuating cognition, 73.0% for visual hallucinations and 62.2% for parkinsonism. The result from 11C-PiB PET and 18F-FDG PET scans confirmed Aβ deposition in the cortex and demonstrated hypometabolism in the bilateral temporoparietooccipital region, the frontal lobe, the insular lobe, and the posterior cingulate, precuneus and caudate nuclei. Our study elucidated the clinical features of Chinese DLB patients, and will improve the understanding and the early diagnosis of DLB in Chinese patients.

The numerous natural products and their bioactivity potentially afford an extraordinary resource for new drug discovery and have been employed in cancer treatment. However, the underlying pharmacological mechanisms of most natural anticancer compounds remain elusive, which has become one of the major obstacles in developing novel effective anticancer agents. Here, to address these unmet needs, we developed an anticancer herbs database of systems pharmacology (CancerHSP), which records anticancer herbs related information through manual curation. Currently, CancerHSP contains 2439 anticancer herbal medicines with 3575 anticancer ingredients. For each ingredient, the molecular structure and nine key ADME parameters are provided. Moreover, we also provide the anticancer activities of these compounds based on 492 different cancer cell lines. Further, the protein targets of the compounds are predicted by state-of-art methods or collected from literatures. CancerHSP will help reveal the molecular mechanisms of natural anticancer products and accelerate anticancer drug development, especially facilitate future investigations on drug repositioning and drug discovery. Dental care is consistently reported as one of the primary medical needs of children with disabilities (IDC). The aim of the present study was to explore the influence of oral health behaviors on the caries experience in children with intellectual disabilities in Guangzhou, China. A cross-sectional study was carried out in 477 intellectually disabled children, 12 to 17 years old, who were randomly selected from special educational schools in Guangzhou. A self-administered parental questionnaire was used to collect data on socio-demographic characteristics and oral health behavior variables, and 450 valid questionnaires were returned. Multiple regression analysis was used to examine the factors associated with dental caries. The average age of those in the sample was 14.6 years (SD = 1.3), 68.4% of whom were male, and the caries prevalence rate was 53.5% (DMFT = 1.5 ± 2.0). The factors significantly affecting the development of dental caries in IDC included gender, the presence or absence of cerebral palsy, and the frequency of dental visits and toothbrushing. In conclusion, the presence of cerebral palsy contributed to an increase risk of caries experience in intellectually disabled children, while toothbrushing more than twice a day and routine dental visits were caries-protective factors. Oral health promotion action may lead to a reduction in dental caries levels in IDC.

Background: The beneficial health effects associated with Universal Salt Iodization are well known. Yet, little is known about the possible adverse health effects in people with high iodine intake and the safe daily intake upper limit in the Chinese population., Objective: The objective of this study was to explore the safe upper level of total daily iodine intake among adults in China., Design: A 4-wk, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized controlled trial was conducted in 256 euthyroid adults. Participants were randomly assigned to 12 intervention groups with various iodine supplement doses ranging from 0 to 2000 μg/d. Total iodine intake included iodine from both supplements and diet. Multiple outcome measures were used to evaluate possible adverse effects, including thyroid function, thyroid size, and urinary iodine., Results: The mean iodine intake from the diets and salt intake of the participants were 105 ± 25 and 258 ± 101 μg/d, respectively. In comparison with the placebo group, all iodide-supplemented groups responded with significant increases in median urinary iodine concentrations (P < 0.05) and in thyroid-stimulating hormone concentration (P < 0.05). Thyroid volume decreased after 4 wk in the high-iodine intervention groups (1500-2000 μg). Subclinical hypothyroidism appeared in the groups that received 400 μg I (5%) and 500-2000 μg I (15-47%)., Conclusions: This study showed that subclinical hypothyroidism appeared in the participants who took the 400-μg I supplement, which provided a total iodine intake of ∼800 μg/d. Thus, we caution against a total daily iodine intake that exceeds 800 μg/d in China and recommend further research to determine a safe daily upper limit.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), which is clinically characterized by a sustained elevation in mean pulmonary artery pressure leading to significant morbidity and mortality, is caused by intense remodeling of small pulmonary arteries by endothelial and smooth muscle proliferation. Genetic studies in familial PAH (FPAH) have revealed heterozygous germline mutations in the bone morphogenetic protein type II receptor (BMPR2), a receptor for the transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta/BMP superfamily. In this study, we conducted mutation screening in the promoter region and the entire coding regions as well as the intron/exon boundaries of the BMPR2 gene in 20 Chinese patients with either idiopathic or FPAH. All novel detected mutations were excluded by their presence in a panel of 200 chromosomes from normal individuals. A novel mutation, G-669A, in the promoter sequence of the BMPR2 gene was identified in one patient with FPAH, and no exonic mutations were detected in the proband. This mutation abolished a potential specificity protein 3 (sp3) transcription factor-binding site, and a dual luciferase assay showed that the promoter carrying the -669A allele had significantly decreased transcriptional activity compared with -669G allele. Of the other 19 patients, three novel heterozygous exonic mutations were identified: a frame shift mutation with deletion of TG at the nucleotide position 608-609 in exon 5 (Leu203fsX15), a nonsense mutation at the nucleotide position 292 in exon 3 (Glu98X) and a missense single nucleotide substitution in exon 12 (Ser863Asn).
