Background: The diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of serum Pro-gastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP) in benign or malignant diseases remains controversial. Methods: The clinical data of 6,948 patients who were examined for ProGRP from February 2015 to January 2017 in the Zhongshan Hospital of the XiaMen University, were collected. The clinical data of the different groups were analyzed by statistical methods. Results: The ProGRP reference levels were 68.50 pg/mL. The percentages of abnormal ProGRP levels were 23.87%, 26.14%, 22.87%, 84.56%, 16.1%, 15.59% and 43.75% for the pneumonia, cardiovascular disease, cerebral vascular disease, renal failure, small cell lung cancer (SCLC), colorectal cancer, and prostate cancer groups, respectively. The 95th percentile of the serum ProGRP concentration levels in the renal failure group was 364.22 pg/mL. The ProGRP cutoff levels for SCLC group were 162.90 pg/mL and the area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve (AUC) was 0.940 (95% CI, 0.892 to 0.987). The parameters sensitivity, specificity, PLR (positive likelihood ratio), NLR (negative likelihood) and Kappa value for the SCLC group with the exclusion of the renal failure group were 81.10% (95% CI: 38.19% - 89.71%), 99.51% (95% CI: 99.31% - 99.66%), 167.59 (95% CI: 116.06 - 241.99), 0.19 (95% CI: 0.11 - 0.32), and 0.6830 (Sig: 0.000), respectively. In the SCLC group, significantly higher concentrations of serum ProGRP of M1 were observed compared with M0. All esophageal neoplasms with high-level ProGRP were identified as small cell neoplasms. Conclusions: The ProGRP levels were increased in a variety of benign and malignant diseases and were considered a putative marker for SCLC with the exception of the renal failure group. Background: Manual acupuncture (MA) manipulations are one of the key factors influencing acupuncture effects in traditional Chinese medicine theory. Different MA manipulations contain different stimulating parameters, thus generating different acupuncture responses or effects. Evidence has demonstrated that acupuncture is effective for functional dyspepsia (FD). However, the effects of different stimulating parameters of MA manipulations on FD remain unclear.Methods/design: This study is a randomized controlled trial with a four-arm, parallel-group structure. Patients with FD with epigastric pain syndrome (EPS) will be included and randomly allocated into four groups: three MA manipulation groups (separately treated with a frequency of 1 Hz, 2 Hz, or 3 Hz) and a control group. All groups will receive omeprazole as a basic treatment and acupuncture: in the MA manipulation groups, the needles will be manipulated manually with three different frequencies on the basis when de qi is reached, while in the control group, the needles will be inserted without any manipulation. All patients will receive acupuncture treatment of five consecutive sessions per week for 2 weeks and be followed up at 4, 8, and 12 weeks. The primary outcomes of the study include patients' response to the treatment. The secondary outcomes include dyspeptic symptoms, quality of life, mental status, fasting serum gastrin, motilin, and ghrelin concentrations, and adverse events. Background: Gastrin-17 (G-17) and Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) antibody are widely used in the screening of gastric diseases, especially in gastric cancer. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the value of G-17 and H pylori antibody in gastric disease screening., Methods: Healthy males and females (1368 and 1212, respectively) aged between 21-80 years were recruited for the study. Serum G-17 value was measured using ELISA, and H pylori antibodies were measured using Western blotting. Statistical analyses were performed using the chi-square, Mann-Whitney U, and Kruskal-Wallis H tests., Results: Serum G-17 level was higher in the H pylori-positive group than in the negative group. Serum G-17 level was higher in the type 1 H pylori-positive group than in the type 2 H pylori-positive group. Further, serum G-17 level was higher in females than in males and showed significant differences among different age-groups, with changes in trend proportional to the age. The positive rate of H pylori infection in all the subjects was 58.29% and did not show a significant difference between males and females. However, it showed significant differences among different age-groups, with the changing trend proportional to the age., Conclusion: Analysis of serum G-17 level and H pylori antibody typing is valuable in gastric disease screening. Objective: Gastric cancer, a common gastrointestinal cancer in the world, threatens people's life and health seriously. Early screening is an effective strategy to reduce the incidence and mortality of gastric cancer, which is of great importance for gastric cancer prevention and control. The review systematically searched CNKI, Wanfang Data knowledge service platform, PubMed and EMbase databases, and summarized the current status on screening for gastric cancer worldwide. We found that the screening on gastric cancer was mainly carried out in eastern Asia. Gastroscopy and biopsy were the main screening techniques of gastric cancer. The starting age of screening is 40 years old or above. It is essential to carry out gastric cancer screening and concentrate on high-risk population in China.

Background: Studies have suggested that Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection is associated with atherosclerotic process, while the relationship between pepsinogens, gastrin and atherosclerosis is unknown., Aim: The aim of the study was to observe association of Hp infection on atherosclerotic parameters and blood pressure, and explore the relationship between atherosclerotic parameters, blood pressure and gastric biomarkers in a healthy population., Methods: 395 subjects were chosen and received physical examinations, carotid artery ultrasound, peripheral atherosclerosis measurement, and testing of serum pepsinogen (PG) I and II, Hp antibody, and gastrin-17 (G-17) levels. Analyses were conducted by Student's t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, multiple linear regression and binary logistic regression., Results: In Hp-infected subjects, right carotid intima media thickness (R-CIMT) were higher (P = 0.027) and left ankle brachial index were higher in 45-64 years compared to 35-44 years group (P = 0.039, P = 0.016). Hp-IgG, PGI and G-17 respectively positively correlated with CIMT, pulse wave velocity and systolic blood pressure (P = 0.044, P = 0.013, P = 0.021). The unadjusted OR in subjects with elevated CIMT for quartile IV of PGI was 3.542 (95% CI, 1.491-8.411), the adjusted OR was 2.916 (95% CI, 1.035-8.216). The unadjusted OR in subjects with elevated CIMT for quartile III of G-17 was 4.351 (95% CI, 1.670-11.336) and for quartile IV was 3.108 (95% CI, 1.149-8.406), the adjusted OR for quartile III was 4.962 (95% CI, 1.515-16.258)., Conclusions: Hp infection, higher levels of PGI and G-17 may contribute to atherosclerotic process by influencing atherosclerotic parameters and blood pressure in a healthy population, the influence on CIMT was most significant., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Inc. Aim: To observe changes in gastric biomarker levels with age and effects of Helicobacter pylori ( H. pylori ) infection in a healthy population, and explore factors associated with gastric biomarkers., Methods: Three hundred and ninety-five subjects were selected and underwent physical examinations, biochemical tests, and measurement of serum pepsinogen (PG) I and II, gastrin-17 (G-17) and H. pylori antibody levels. Analyses were made by Student's t -test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and multiple linear regressions., Results: PGII levels were higher in the ≥ 65-years-old age group ( P < 0.05) and PGI/PGII were lower in the ≥ 75-years-old age group ( P = 0.035) compared to the 35-44-years-old age group. Levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were higher ( P = 0.009) in H. pylori -infected subjects that were male. LDL-C levels were higher in 55-74-years-old age group ( P < 0.05) for H. pylori -infected subjects and 45-64-years-old age group ( P < 0.05) for non-infected subjects compared to 35-44-years-old age group. Hp-IgG level positively correlated with PGI, PGII and G-17 ( P < 0.001, P < 0.001, P = 0.006), and negatively correlated with PGI/PGII ( P < 0.001). Creatinine positively correlated with PGI, PGII and G-17 ( P < 0.001, P < 0.001, P < 0.001). Fasting blood glucose (FBG) positively correlated with PGI/PGII and G-17 ( P < 0.001, P = 0.037). Age positively correlated with PGII and G-17 ( P = 0.005, P = 0.026)., Conclusion: PGII levels increased while PGI/PGII declined with age in a healthy population. H. pylori infection had an effect on raising LDL-C levels to increase the risk of atherosclerosis in males, especially those of elderly age.
