Urinary incontinence (UI) is a disease that quietly yet seriously impacts women's health and represents a global health burden that is often neglected. This study aims to systematically assess the prevalence and dynamics of female UI in China, and can inform further policies and have international implications. This study used three nationwide investigations: A national cross-sectional survey in 2021; another nationwide cross-sectional survey in 2006; and data regarding the institutions and physicians providing pelvic floor rehabilitation services from 2005 to 2019. The weighted prevalence of female UI and its subtypes, including stress UI (SUI), urgency UI (UUI), and mixed UI (MUI), were estimated as primary outcomes. Knowledge, attitude and care-seeking behaviors of UI were evaluated. It was found that the weighted prevalence of female UI was 16.0 % (95% CI, 13.3 %-19.1%) with SUI remaining the predominant subtype (7.0%) in 2021, followed by MUI (6.5%) and UUI (1.9%). The estimated absolute number of Chinese adult women with UI was 85.8 million in 2021. 52.7% (95% CI, 45.9%-59.4 %) of women were aware that UI was a medical condition, and only 10.1% of women with UI sought health care. After 15 years of development, there were 8400 pelvic floor rehabilitation institutions and nearly 10,000 relevant physicians in China-they were found to be associated with UI prevalence. The UI prevalence in China was significantly lower in 2021 compared to that in 2006. Despite the achievement, UI remains a public health problem, especially given China's fast aging and three-child policy. Introduction and Hypothesis: To determine the prevalence, severity, risk factors and self-perception of female urinary incontinence (UI) in rural Fujian, China., Methods: This population-based cross-sectional study was conducted between June and October 2022. Women aged 20 to 70 years from rural communities in Fujian Province were selected by multistage random sampling. Data from respondents were collected by completing standardised questionnaires through face-to-face interviews. The main outcome was prevalence and self-perception of UI., Results: A total of 5659 valid questionnaires were collected. The overall prevalence of female UI was 23.6% (95% CI 22.5-24.7). The most common type was stress UI with a prevalence of 14.0% (95% CI 13.1-14.9), followed by mixed UI with a prevalence of 6.1% (95% CI 5.5-6.7), and finally urgency UI with a prevalence of 3.5% (95% CI 3.0-3.9). Multivariate regression analysis suggested that older age, obesity, postmenopausal status, multiple vaginal deliveries, macrosomia, instrumental vaginal delivery and previous pelvic floor surgeries were independently associated with UI (P < 0.05). The overall awareness rate of UI was 24.7%, and older age, lower level of education, and income were significantly associated with a decrease in awareness (P < 0.05). Only 33.3% of respondents believed they should seek medical help for UI., Conclusion: UI affects more than one-fifth of women in rural Fujian, and several factors are thought to be associated with its development. Purpose: We estimated the remission and transition rate between urinary incontinence (UI) subtypes in women with UI and evaluated the impact of body mass index (BMI) on this process. Materials and Methods: A Chinese population-based longitudinal study was conducted. Women aged -20 years were included using a multistage, stratified, cluster sampling method. Self-reported data on demographics, medical history, and physiological and anthropometric information were collected. UI was identified using 2 questions about any leaking symptom of stress UI (SUI) and urgency UI (UUI) in the past 6 months. Predicted probabilities of UI subtypes were calculated using multinomial logistic regression. Results: Analyses included 5,189 women (mean age 52.6 years, mean BMI 23.8 kg/m2), of whom 98.5% were parous. The median followup time was 4.0 years. Overall, the annual remission rate of UI was 12.7% among adult women. Regarding UI subtypes, the remission rates for UUI and SUI were similar, but higher than that for mixed urinary incontinence (MUI; p <0.05). In total, 7.6% of SUI patients and 16.4% of UUI patients developed MUI, and 35.3% of MUI patients continued to report MUI after 4 years. For women aged -60 years with a BMI -24 kg/m2 and MUI at onset, the predicted remission rate (95% CI) was only 0.32 (0.29e0.35), but the predicted probability of the MUI remaining reached 0.50 (0.46e0.54). Objective: To estimate the incidence of urinary incontinence (UI), including its subtypes stress UI (SUI), urgency UI (UUI) and mixed UI (MUI), and to examine risk factors for de novo SUI and UUI in Chinese women. Design: Nationwide longitudinal study. Setting: Six geographic regions of China. Participants: Women aged ≥20 years old were included using a multistage, stratified, cluster sampling method. Methods: This study was conducted between May 2014 and March 2016, with follow up in 2018. Data on demographics, medical history, lifestyle and physiological and anthropometric information were collected. Main outcome measurements: Incidence, rate ratio (RR). Results: Analyses included 24 985 women (mean age 41.9 years).The follow‐up response rate was 55.5%, median follow‐up time was 3.7 years. The standardised incidences of UI, SUI, UUI and MUI were 21.2, 13.1, 3.0 and 5.1 per 1000 person‐years, respectively. Risk factors for de novo SUI included delivery pattern (vaginal spontaneous delivery RR 2.12, 95% CI 1.62–2.78 and instrumental delivery RR 3.30, 95% CI 1.99–5.45), high body mass index (BMI) (overweight RR 1.52, 95% CI 1.33–1.74 and obesity RR 1.67, 95% CI 1.32–2.11), cigarette smoking (RR 1.54, 95% CI 1.12–2.12), chronic cough (RR 1.44, 95% CI 1.17–1.76), diabetes (RR 1.33, 95% CI 1.10–1.60) and older age (50–59 years RR 1.49, 95% CI 1.16–1.90 and 60–69 years RR 1.61, 95% CI 1.22–2.13).The risk factors significantly associated with de novo UUI were age (RR increased from 1.21, 95% CI 0.74–1.99, at 30–39 years to 6.3, 95% CI 3.85–10.30, at >70 years) and diabetes (RR 1.48, 95% CI 1.05–2.09). Conclusions: The incidence of female UI is 21.2 per 1000 person‐years in China. Purpose: To investigate the prevalence, risk factors, and impact on quality of life (QOL) of female urinary incontinence (UI) in a region of southeastern China.Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional study, conducted between June 2022 and March 2023, included 9584 women aged 20– 70 years who completed a standardized questionnaire through face-to-face interviews. This sample size represents almost 10% of the population in the target area.Results: The prevalence of female UI was found to be 24.8%, with stress UI being the most common subtype (12.7%), followed by mixed UI (8.0%) and urgency UI (4.1%). Notably, the prevalence of UI increased progressively with age and body mass index (BMI). The study also revealed several risk factors for UI, including urban residence, postmenopausal status, multiple vaginal deliveries, instrumental vaginal deliveries, previous delivery of macrosomia, and prior history of pelvic floor surgery as determined by multivariate analysis. Furthermore, the study showed that 89.5% of women who reported UI experienced varying degrees of negative impact on their QOL. The incontinence quality of life (I-QOL) scale had an average score of 79.70± 19.03, which decreased with increasing severity of UI. Despite the adverse effects on QOL, only 20.6% of women with UI had sought medical help.Conclusion: UI is common among women in the survey area. UI has been observed to have varying degrees of adverse effects on the QOL of those affected, but most of them do not seek treatment for several reasons, highlighting the urgent need for health authorities to develop effective UI intervention strategies. Objective: To evaluate the prevalence and associated risk factors of stress urinary incontinence(SUI) in adult women in Xinjiang., Methods: In the cross-sectional study, 3403 Uygur women aged over 20 years were interviewed through a questionnaire of International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms Module (ICIQ-FLUTS) and the adult questionnaire were used in our research. All parts of the content were according to the characteristics of women in Xinjiang and the purpose of our research. The risk factors were studied by Logistic regression analysis., Results: The prevalence of urinary incontinence(UI) was 41.96% (1428/3403) and 28.21% (960/3403) of SUI in Uygur women. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, the risk factors of SUI are body mass index (OR = 1.672, 95%CI:1.082-2.584), parity (OR = 5.092, 95%CI:3.889-6.666), neonatal birth weight (OR = 5.623, 95%CI:3.335-9.480), the mode of delivery (OR = 2.247, 95%CI:1.634-3.090), the lateral episiotomy (OR = 4.448, 95%CI:3.112-6.357), menopause(OR = 5.145, 95%CI: 3.613-7.328), chronic pelvic pain (OR = 3.869, 95%CI:1.051-14.250), pelvic organ prolapse (OR = 3.501, 95%CI:2.508-4.887)., Conclusion: The incidence of SUI is related with multiple factors, especially with obesity and the obstetric factor.

Objective: To elucidate the influence of recreational physical activity, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference on the risk of specific types of urinary incontinence., Study Design: We conducted a population-based cross-sectional survey in Gansu, China among 2603 women aged 20 years or older., Results: The study found that BMI was positively associated with urinary incontinence (P for trend=0.008) and the association was mainly observed for stress urinary incontinence (OR=1.4, 95% CI: 1.1, 1.9 for BMI=24.0-27.9 kg/m²; OR=2.3, 95% CI: 1.5, 3.6 for BMI ≥ 28.0 kg/m²; P for trend=0.0005). A positive association between stress incontinence (OR=1.7, 95% CI: 1.2, 2.5) and waist circumference was observed for women who had waist circumference between 70 cm and 75 cm compared to waist circumference less than 70 cm. Recreational physical activity was inversely associated with overall and mixed urinary incontinence (P for trend <0.0001 for both). A significant interaction between physical activity and waist circumference was found for overall (P=0.0007) and stress incontinence (P=0.001)., Conclusions: The findings that physical activity inversely associated with urinary incontinence and its interaction with waist circumference warrant further investigation, particularly in prospective studies., (Copyright © 2011. Objectives: To survey and evaluate the prevalence and potential risk factors of female urinary incontinence (UI) in Beijing, China., Design: A population-based cross-sectional study was performed from April to July 2005. We randomly sampled 1.0% of female residents aged 20 years and older from year 2000 national census data, totaling 5,300 women. All of the women were interviewed face to face using a modified questionnaire based on the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms. Data were collected and analyzed., Results: The overall prevalence of female UI was 38.5%. Prevalence rates of female stress urinary incontinence (SUI), female urge urinary incontinence, and female mixed urinary incontinence were 22.9%, 2.8%, and 12.4%, respectively. The prevalence rate of female UI was more than 50% in postmenopausal women. In multiple logistic models, multiple vaginal deliveries (odds ratio [OR]=2.1; 95% CI: 1.443-3.179), age (OR=1.7; 95% CI: 1.039-2.742), postmenopausal status (OR=1.5; 95% CI: 1.182-1.983), chronic pelvic pain (OR=1.4; 95% CI: 1.134-1.814), obesity (OR=1.4; 95% CI: 1.205-1.721), lack of exercise (OR=1.3; 95% CI: 1.105-1.509), constipation (OR=1.3; 95% CI: 1.109-1.586), and hypertension (OR=1.2; 95% CI: 1.053-1.474) were identified as potential risk factors of female SUI. No association between female SUI and offspring birth weight, occupation, or chronic diseases was observed in this study. Only 12.8% of women with UI and 7.4% of women with SUI seek medical help., Conclusions: UI is a major disorder that affects female quality of life. The prevalence of female UI is high (38.5%) in Beijing. Among the different types of UI, SUI was the most prevalent (22.9%). Potential risk factors identified for female SUI were multiple vaginal deliveries, age, postmenopausal status, chronic pelvic pain, obesity, lack of exercise, constipation, and hypertension.

Objectives: To evaluate the prevalence, the clinical characteristics and associated risk factors of urinary incontinence in Beijing women., Methods: In the cross-sectional study, 5300 Beijing women aged over 20 years were interviewed through a questionnaire including International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms Module (ICIQ-FLUTS). Aged from 20 to 99 years old (mean 46 +/- 17). Divided into 8 groups every 10 years. 4812 cases are married., Results: The overall prevalence of UI was 38.5% (2008/5221), among theses women, 22.9% (1197/5221), had stress incontinence, 2.8% (147/5221) urge incontinence and 12.4% (649/5221) mixed incontinence. In multiple logistic models, age, delivery mode, smoking, hypertension, constipation, body mass index, chronic pelvic pain (CPP) were relation factors for stress incontinence., Conclusions: The prevalence of urinary incontinence is high (38.5%). Urinary incontinence is major disease that affects female quality of life. 22.9% (1197/5221) of the incontinence women had stress urinary incontinence, 2.8% (147/5221) urge urinary incontinence and 12.4% (649/5221) mixed urinary incontinence. Old, vaginal delivery, smoking, hypertension, constipation, CPP and higher BMI are potential risk factors for stress urinary incontinence. Cesarean section are protective factors for stress urinary incontinence.

We sought to understand the perceptions and experiences of Chinese women living with urinary incontinence (UI), a problem that has not yet been characterized in China. We conducted the study using semistructured interviews with 15 women, aged 24-81, diagnosed with UI at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of Fuzhou General Hospital, Fujian, China. We conducted and analyzed the interviews according to the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis model. The five core themes we derived from the participants' responses were uncertainty about UI, self-blame, avoidance, emotional isolation, and desire for treatment. The negative impacts of UI we documented, such as limiting exercise and causing embarrassment, demonstrated that UI is a problem for the affected women in China. Our study was limited by the small sample size and the need for additional reliability/validity measures, but we believe it presented a strong foundation and justification for more rigorous research into UI in China.

Introduction and Hypothesis: Accurate identification of female populations at high risk for urinary incontinence (UI) and early intervention are potentially effective initiatives to reduce the prevalence of UI. We aimed to apply machine-learning techniques to establish, internally validate, and provide interpretable risk assessment tools., Methods: Data from a cross-sectional epidemiological survey of female urinary incontinence conducted in 2022 were used. Sociodemographic and obstetrics-related characteristics, comorbidities, and urinary incontinence questionnaire results were used to develop multiple prediction models. Seventy percent of the individuals in the study cohort were employed in model training, and the remainder were used for internal validation. Model performance was characterized by area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve (AUC) and calibration curves, as well as Brier scores. The best-performing model was finally selected to develop an online prediction tool., Results: The results showed that bothersome stress urinary incontinence (BSUI) occurred in 9.6% (849 out of 8,830) of parous women. The XGBoost model achieved the best prediction performance (training set: AUC 0.796, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.778-0.815, validation set: AUC 0.720, 95% CI: 0.686-0.754). Additionally, the XGBoost model achieved the lowest (best) Brier score among the models, with sensitivity of 0.657, specificity of 0.690, accuracy of 0.688, positive predictive value of 0.231, and negative predictive value of 0.948. Based on this model, the top five risk factors for the development of BSUI among parous women were ranked as follows: body mass index, age, vaginal delivery, constipation, and maximum fetal birth weight. An online calculator was provided for clinical use., Conclusion: The application of machine-learning algorithms provides an acceptable, though not perfect, prediction of BSUI risk among parous women, requiring further validation and improvement in future research., Competing Interests: Declarations. Aim: This study utilized latent profile analysis to investigate care needs subgroups among older adults with urinary incontinence., Methods: The "Elderly Urinary Incontinence Care Needs Inventory" surveyed 510 participants in two Guangzhou City hospitals from July 2022 to June 2023. Latent profile analysis created a classification model, and variance and correlation analysis assessed influencing factors., Results: A total of 510 older adults with urinary incontinence participated. The standardized total care needs score was 78.77 ± 5.03, with variations across dimensions: social participation needs scored (71.16 ± 10.32), daily life care needs (78.80 ± 5.51), medical care needs (77.33 ± 12.17), psychological comfort needs (76.97 ± 6.51) and health education needs scored highest (82.67 ± 6.77). Three distinct profiles emerged: "medium," "high SPN-PCN" and "high DLCN-MCN-HEN". The majority belonged to the "high SPN-PCN" profile. Significant correlations were found with age, education, leaks and frequency of micturitions., Conclusion: Research findings showed the existence of three distinct categories, with a notable majority of participants belonging to the "high SPN-PCN" group. The significance of having these classes identified lies in the move away from a one-size-fits-all approach to a more nuanced understanding of care needs. Customized nursing interventions can be devised based on specific factors, such as age, education level, urinary incontinence-related symptoms and potential category. For instance, for the "high SPN-PCN" group, our nursing strategy can encompass heightened psychological support and expanded opportunities for social engagement.Furthermore, in the training and education of healthcare professionals, recognizing and meeting the needs of each potential category of older adults might require more attention. Introduction and Hypothesis: Identifying the factors influencing the development of female urinary incontinence (UI) may facilitate early intervention, potentially delaying its progression. This study was aimed at investigating the impact of lifestyle habits on the severity of UI among women in East China., Methods: This study included 414 women from six communities in East China who reported symptoms of UI and was conducted between September and December 2020. Data were collected using a general information questionnaire, the Toileting Behaviours: Women's Elimination Behaviours scale, and the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Urinary Incontinence Short Form Chinese Version. Participants were categorised into two groups: those with mild UI and those with moderate-to-severe UI. Propensity-score matching was performed to balance confounding factors, and logistic regression was used to explore the relationship between lifestyle behaviours and UI severity., Results: A total of 117 pairs were successfully matched. Logistic regression analysis revealed that daily perineal cleaning significantly protected against moderate-to-severe UI (p < 0.05). Conversely, living alone, poor sleep quality and hovering over the toilet while voiding were identified as independent risk factors for moderate-to-severe UI (p < 0.05)., Conclusion: Several lifestyle habits significantly impact the severity of UI among adult women. Aim: To analyse experience in postnatal nurses returning to work within 3 months following the delivery of a second or third child and recommend appropriate measures to relieve pressure and enhance work engagement among this group. Method s : This study adopted a descriptive phenomenological approach. Semi‐structured interview was carried out with 12 postnatal nurses who had returned to work in the postpartum period following the delivery of a second or third child. The collected data were analysed using the Colaizzi method. Results: Experience among postnatal nurses with two or three children was found to stem from three factors: declining physical quality after childbirth (pelvic floor disorder, fatigue, postpartum memory decline and sleep disturbance), poor psychological adjustment after childbirth (work–family conflict, conflict between clinical work and breastfeeding and role maladjustment) and lack of clear career planning. Conclusion: This study emphasised the importance of psychological experience when postnatal nurses returning to clinical work in the early phase. Postnatal nurses and nurse leaders can use these results to make comprehensive solution in order to improve work engagement in the postpartum return. Aims: To explore the co‐occurrence of urinary incontinence and frailty by testing the roles of depression and activity engagement guided by the mechanisms of common cause and interaction pathways. Design: A secondary analysis of a 1‐year three‐wave panel data collected from older nursing home residents in China. Methods: Changes in depression and activity engagement were regressed on urinary incontinence and frailty incidence underpinned by the common cause mechanism of chronic conditions co‐occurrence, and these changes were also taken as mediators linking from frailty to urinary incontinence incidence supported by the interaction pathways' mechanism. Results: A total of 348 older adults were included in this study, and 55.7% were women. The co‐occurrence of urinary incontinence and frailty was found in 16.7% of the participants at baseline. Older adults with sole frailty at baseline had almost twice the rate of incident urinary incontinence (32.7%) compared with those without (16.7%) over a 1‐year period. The subsample analyses showed that changes in depression and activity engagement failed to significantly predict the incidence of urinary incontinence and frailty. The mediating roles of these changes linking frailty to urinary incontinence incidence were also not statistically significant. Conclusion: The co‐occurrence of urinary incontinence and frailty is prevalent in older nursing home residents. Older adults with frailty at baseline are more likely to develop urinary incontinence a year later. The common cause and interaction pathways mechanisms for the co‐occurrence of urinary incontinence and frailty were not verified with changes in depression and activity engagement. Implications for the Profession and/or Patient Care: The phenomenon of urinary incontinence and frailty co‐occurrence should be given extreme emphasis. Although statistically significant findings on the roles of depression and activity engagement were not inferred, this study provides multiple possibilities for future studies to test and depict a clear picture of this co‐occurrence. Impact: What problem did the study address? This study was designed to test the roles of depression and activity engagement in predicting the incidence of urinary incontinence and frailty, and the mediating roles in linking frailty to urinary incontinence incidence.What were the main findings? Despite the methodological pitfalls in literature have been addressed, neither depression nor activity engagement would significantly predict the incidence of urinary incontinence and frailty in older adults. Their mediating roles in linking frailty to urinary incontinence incidence were also not significant.Where and on whom will the research have an impact? Our findings add important pieces of evidence to promote researchers' understanding and provide an important basis for untangling the puzzle of urinary incontinence and frailty co‐occurrence. : Urinary incontinence is a well-known bothersome symptom in women, which may cause physical and psychological problems. We conducted a questionnaire survey on female urinary incontinence to investigate the disease's impact on the quality of life (QoL), the reasons women don’t seek medical attention and the information they wished to obtain. : From March to October 2002, a member of the Professional Women's Coalition for Sexuality and Health distributed a questionnaire about urinary frequency and urinary incontinence to women who were attending the lectures hosted by the group. : We analysed 262 questionnaires: 158 people belonged to the Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) Group, 36 to the Overactive Bladder (OAB) Group, 22 to the Urinary Frequency (UF) Group and 18 to the Normal Group. ‘Going out’ was most influenced in all three groups with symptoms in their daily life. Compared with the Normal or SUI Group, the QoL in those belonging to the OAB and UF Groups was more deteriorated. The medical institution check-up rate in the SUI Group was the lowest at 7.1%, bringing down the overall consultation rate to 13.5%. Background: Although epidural analgesia is considered the gold standard for pain relief during labor and is safe for maternity and fetus, the association between the epidural analgesia and pelvic floor disorders remains unclear. Thus we estimate the association between epidural analgesia and early postpartum urinary incontinence (UI)., Methods: A propensity score-matched retrospective cohort study was conducted at a university-affiliated hospital in Shanghai, China. Primiparous women with term, singleton, and vaginal delivery between December 2020 and February 2022 were included. UI was self-reported by maternity at 42 to 60 days postpartum and was classified by International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UI SF). Using logistic regression models, the associations between epidural analgesia and early postpartum UI were assessed., Results: Among 5190 participants, 3709 (71.5%) choose epidural anesthesia during labor. Analysis of the propensity-matched cohort (including 1447 maternal pairs) showed epidural anesthesia during labor was independently associated with UI in early postpartum period (aOR 1.50, 95% CI 1.24-1.81). This association was mainly contributed to stress UI (aOR 1.38, 95% CI 1.12-1.71) rather than urge UI (aOR 1.45, 95% CI 0.99-2.15) and mixed UI (aOR 1.52, 95% CI 0.95-2.45). Furthermore, we observed that the association between epidural anesthesia and UI was more pronounced among older women (≥ 35 y) and women with macrosomia (infant weight ≥ 4000 g), compared with their counterparts (both P for interaction < 0.01). Introduction and Hypothesis: The objective was to assess the sonographic tension-free vaginal tape-obturator (TVT-O) position and the outcome in Asian Chinese women., Methods: A prospective cohort study of 254 patients who underwent TVT-O surgery between 2013 and 2022. The sonographic position of the TVT-O was recorded and correlated with the outcomes, including the subjective cure rates, Incontinence Impact Questionnaire 7 (IIQ-7), and retention of urine., Results: A total of 92.9% reported no stress urinary incontinence after the operation. The IIQ-7 score significantly improved after TVT-O surgery. 88.2% of patients had the TVT-O placed at 50-70% of the urethral length and half of the TVT-O were placed 3-5 mm from the urethra. The cure rate was higher when the tape was in the middle third of the urethra, but the tape position was not associated with postoperative retention of urine in our study., Conclusions: Most TVT-Os can be placed in the target zone in a blind procedure in Asian Chinese women. Background: Radical hysterectomy (RH) is commonly used to treat early-stage cervical cancer in women of childbearing age and sexual dysfunction due to postoperative vaginal shortening is a major concern. The impact of intraoperative vaginoplasty on prognosis and quality of sexual life in patients with early-stage cervical cancer remains controversial and lacks high-level evidence. However, there are few reports on vaginoplasty after RH to lengthen vagina in patients. This prospective, multi-center, randomized controlled trial aims to explore the impact of peritoneal vaginoplasty with or without ovarian transposition after laparoscopic RH on sexual dysfunction in patients with early-stage cervical cancer. Methods: Eligible patients will be randomly assigned (1:1) to receive peritoneal vaginoplasty or not. The primary evaluation indicators are female sexual function index (FSFI) and male sexual satisfaction scale. The secondary evaluation indicators include EORTC QLQ-CX24, 2-year overall survival (OS), 5-year OS, 2-year progression-free survival (PFS), 5-year PFS and surgery-related complications. Purpose: To explore care requirements of older adults with urinary incontinence (UI) and contributing factors. Method: This cross-sectional study used the Older Adults Urinary Incontinence Care Needs Inventory to survey participants with UI in three large-scale tertiary hospitals located in Guangzhou City, China, from January 2023 to November 2023. Statistical analyses, including analysis of variance, t tests, correlation analyses, and linear regression models, were conducted to assess factors influencing participants' care needs. Results: A total of 530 older adults with UI participated in the survey and mean standardized score for overall care needs was 78.65 (SD = 5.01), with mean scores for each dimension ranging from 70.88 (SD = 10.55) for social participation needs to 82.45 (SD = 7.11) for health education needs. Factors that were found to influence incontinence care needs in older adults included age, literacy level, number of leaks, and type of disease (F = 37.07, adjusted R2 = 0.290, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Comprehensive care for older adults with UI, encompassing physiological, psychological, and social aspects, is crucial. Purpose: The family decision-makers serve as the backbone of the family, and their health status warrants consideration. This study aims to explore how the health status of this group of people, namely the family decision-making group, is affected, and to delve into the mechanisms of influence based on this. The goal is to provide reliable evidence and strategies for the health management of the family decision-makers group, contributing to the achievement of the "Healthy China 2030" Planning Outline. Patients and Methods: Drawing on data from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS), this study utilizes an Ordered Probit Model to analyze and compare the health status of family decision-makers and non-decision-makers. Results: The findings indicate that decision-makers tend to experience poorer health outcomes than other family members, with increased pressure related to decision-making identified as a significant contributor to their declining health. Heterogeneity analysis reveals that the negative effect is less pronounced in households with higher net worth but more pronounced in those with more significant housing, education, and medical spending pressures. Moreover, this study analysis highlights that enhancing individual or family socioeconomic status can alleviate the adverse health effects experienced by family decision-makers. Conclusion: The study reveals the presence of certain health adverse effects among family decision-makers. The implications drawn from this research hold significance for the health management of this demographic, underscoring the necessity for tailored interventions aimed at addressing the distinctive challenges confronted by this group. Aims: To identify the challenges and opportunities among primary health care nurses and general practitioners (GPs) in the care of older people with urinary incontinence (UI) and other chronic conditions in China. Background: UI is highly prevalent among community‐dwelling older people with chronic conditions but is underreported and poorly managed. Understanding the factors that affect primary health care professionals' practices in their care for this population is imperative to foster nurse‐led UI care services. Design: A qualitative descriptive study. Methods: Four focus groups were held with 24 primary health care nurses and GPs in Changsha, Hunan Province, China, between July and September 2021. A reflective thematic analysis was used to identify themes. Results: This study revealed misconceptions regarding older people living with UI and other chronic conditions in primary care health professional participants. Moreover, primary health care nurses had very limited autonomy in UI diagnosis and initiating care interventions for this patient population. By reflecting on practices, participants recognized various practical solutions to improve the detection and management of UI. Participants also identified barriers to accessing care services in older people with UI. They suggested changes in the health care system to achieve universal access to UI care services for older people. Conclusion: Nurse‐led UI care services in primary health care for community‐dwelling older people with chronic conditions are in high demand but are underdeveloped due to professional and health care system factors. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the prevalence of urinary incontinence (UI) and several subtypes: (stress, urge, and mixed UI) and the influence of multiple factors on the likelihood of UI., Design: Epidemiological study based on cross-sectional data collection., Subjects and Setting: The sample comprised 1279 inhabitants 65 years and older residing in 10 villages randomly selected from the Shanxi province, located in North China., Methods: The presence and types of UI were assessed using the International Consultation of Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form. Sociodemographic parameters were also recorded, along with data on lifestyle, bowel function, and medical conditions. The Activity of Daily Living Scale and Mini-Mental State Examination instruments were used to evaluate physical and cognitive functions, respectively. A multivariate logistic regression model with the backward method was employed to identify factors associated with UI., Results: The prevalence of any UI among the rural Chinese elderly 65 years and older was 46.8%, with a female predominance (56.3% in females vs 35.0% in males). The most common incontinence subtype in women was mixed UI (n = 170, 24.0%), followed by stress UI (n = 131, 18.5%) and urge UI (n = 97, 13.7%). The most prevalent form of UI in males was urge UI (n = 190, 33.2%), followed by stress UI (n = 5, 0.9%) and mixed UI (n = 5, 0.9%). Less than one quarter of respondents (17%, n = 102) of participants with UI had consulted a doctor. Multivariate analysis found that poorer physical function, poor quality of sleep, and fecal incontinence were common factors associated with UI in both women and men. In women, higher body mass index and constipation were also independent correlates, as were poor vision and heart disease in men. Poorer physical function was associated with all UI subtypes. For female stress UI, poorer cognitive status, tea drinking, and hypertension also emerged as independent risk factors. Heart disease was an independent risk factor in both female and male urge UI; as was consumption of a non-plant-based diet for female mixed and urge UI; nonfarmer and traumatic brain injury for female urge UI; and poor vision and fecal incontinence in male urge UI., Conclusions: Chinese rural citizens showed a high UI prevalence, but only a small proportion had consulted a health care provider. Physical function decline was the most important contributor to UI among participants. Background: Intermittent urethral catheter clamping is widely used to reduce secondary catheterization in patients after proctectomy; however, its effectiveness is unclear., Materials and Methods: This study investigated the effects of intermittent catheter clamping combined with active urination training (ICCAUT) on postoperative urinary dysfunction in patients after proctectomy. This retrospective cohort study analyzed data on patients who underwent laparoscopic/robotic-assisted proctectomy at a single medical center in China between July 2023 and January 2024., Methods: Patients received ICCAUT or free urinary drainage during the indwelling urethral catheter period after surgery. Data from the ICCAUT and free-drainage groups were compared. The primary outcome measure was urinary dysfunction. The secondary outcomes were urinary tract infections, time to first void after catheter removal, and urine volume during first voiding. Propensity-score matching (PSM), inverse probability-of-treatment weighting (IPTW), and multivariable logistic regression analyses were used to identify factors associated with urinary dysfunction., Results: Among 360 eligible patients, 173 received a free-drainage strategy and 187 received ICCAUT. The incidence of urinary dysfunction was 52.5% overall and was significantly lower in the ICCAUT group than in the free-drainage group (45.1% vs. 59.4%; p = 0.009). The lower incidence of urinary dysfunction in the ICCAUT group was confirmed in the PSM (44.7% vs. 59.3%; p = 0.03) and IPTW (44.5% vs. 57.1%; p = 0.028) analyses. Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that ICCAUT was independently associated with a lower risk of urinary dysfunction (OR, 0.55; 95% CI, 0.34-0.89; p = 0.015). Subgroup analysis found that, compared with female patients, male patients are more likely to benefit from the ICCAUT strategy (p for interaction = 0.029; adjusted OR, 0.33; 95% CI, 0.17-0.62; p < 0.001). The ICCAUT strategy did not significantly increase the risk of urinary tract infection (p = 0.349)., Conclusions: The ICCAUT strategy may benefit the recovery of urinary function after proctectomy, especially for male patients. This study aimed to investigate the incidence and risk factors for female sexual dysfunction (FSD) in urban and rural China. A prospective cohort study was conducted from February 2014 to January 2016, with follow-up from June to December 2018. Women aged ≽20 years were recruited from urban and rural areas in six provinces of China using a multistage, stratified, cluster sampling method. Sexual function was assessed using the Female Sexual Function Index questionnaire. A total of 16 827 women without sexual dysfunction at baseline participated in this study, 9489 of them (urban, 5321; rural, 4168) who had complete information from baseline to follow-up were included in the final analysis. The rate of follow-up was 68.81%, and the median follow-up time was 4.13 years. The 4-year incidence of FSD was 43.07%, with an incidence density of 12.02 per 100 person-years. In particular, the 4-year incidence and incidence density of FSD were 41.03% and 11.88 per 100 person-years in the urban group and 45.68% and 12.17 per 100 person-years in the rural group. Among women with sexual dysfunction, difficulties in sexual desire, satisfaction, and arousal were the main symptoms. In urban women, the risk factors for FSD included age ≽45 years (adjusted relative risk 1.69, 95% confidence interval 1.57-1.81), hypertension (1.31, 1.14-1.49), previous delivery (1.26, 1.13-1.41), post-menopausal status (1.20, 1.10-1.32), pelvic inflammatory disease (1.13, 1.05-1.21), and multiparity (1.11, 1.03-1.19). In the rural group, the risk factors significantly associated with FSD were age ≽45 years (1.50, 1.40-1.61), previous delivery (1.39, 1.17-1.65), hypertension (1.18, 1.06-1.30), multiparity (1.16, 1.07-1.27), and post-menopausal status (1.15, 1.07-1.23). Objectives: To determine the incidence of UI (urinary incontinence) and its subtypes in hypertensive women and examine the association between hypertension and new-onset UI., Study Design: We conducted a cohort study on women aged ≥20 years in six regions of China. This cohort study was carried out from 2014 to 2016 at baseline, with follow-up completed in 2018. Information on sociodemographic characteristics, physiological and health behaviours were collected. We calculated the standardized person-year incidence of UI in hypertensive women, and used logistic regression to evaluate the association between hypertension and UI and its subtypes., Results: The standardized incidence of UI, stress UI (SUI), urgency UI (UUI), and mixed UI (MUI) in hypertensive women was 32.2, 21.9, 4.1, and 6.1 per 1000 person-years. Background: Overactive bladder (OAB) is a significant public health issue that adversely affects the quality of life of patients and imposes a significant socioeconomic burden, with varying prevalence rates across study populations in Chinese women. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to estimate the prevalence of OAB in Chinese women. Methods: Relevant published articles on the prevalence of OAB in Chinese women were searched through July 21, 2022, using PubMed, EMbase, The Cochrane Library, China Biology Medicine (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang Data, and VIP databases. After the independent screening of articles, data extraction, and quality assessment of included studies by two investigators, a meta-analysis was performed using Stata 16.0 software, and the prevalence was determined using a random-effects model. To identify potential sources of heterogeneity, subgroup analyses were conducted with subgroup categories including age, Body Mass Index (BMI), region, and survey year. Publication bias was assessed by visually examining the funnel plot and Egger's test. Results: Twenty studies were included in this meta-analysis. The results of the random-effects model indicated that the prevalence of OAB in Chinese women was 14% (95% Confidence Interval: 9%–18%). The prevalence increased significantly in the past decade (from 8% in pre-2006 to 18% in 2016–2021). A prevalence (18%) was observed among women aged 31–40 compared with other age groups. The BMI range of 24–27.9 (18%) was higher than the other groups. Additionally, the prevalence of this BMI range was comparatively higher in North China and Southwest China (21%) than in Central China and East China. In addition, publication bias was observed. Conclusions: OAB incidence has increased in Chinese women over the last two decades, affecting more than 20% of women aged 31–40 years and above. Objective: The prevalence of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) increases around menopause. The quality of life of perimenopausal and postmenopausal women with SUI is significantly affected. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of SUI and the associated risk factors in a population of Chinese perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. Methods: A total of 273 perimenopausal and postmenopausal women were enrolled, and a cross‐sectional study was conducted. SUI was defined as an involuntary loss of urine with increases in abdominal pressure. Data including personal characteristics, menopause information, estrogen levels, and pelvic floor muscle strength levels were statistically analyzed. Results: The study enrolled 158 (57.9%) perimenopausal and 115 (42.1%) postmenopausal women. Sixty‐six (41.8%) perimenopausal women and 56 (48.7%) postmenopausal women complained of SUI. The mean age was 49.42 ± 5.58 years. Body mass index over 24 kg/m2 (odds ratio [OR] 2.02, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.07–3.81), vaginal delivery (OR 2.47, 95% CI 1.33–4.58), and diabetes (OR 4.65, 95% CI 1.23–17.62) were high‐risk factors for SUI. Climacteric symptoms (evaluated by Kupperman index scores) were statistically related to SUI, and among the 13 symptoms, insomnia, nervousness, weakness and fatigue, arthralgia and myalgia, headache, palpitation, and sexual complaints were all correlated with SUI in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. Conclusions: Several factors are associated with SUI in Chinese perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. Obesity, vaginal delivery, climacteric symptoms, and diabetes were identified as the most notable risk factors. The management strategy could focus on the prevention and management of risk factors. Introduction and Hypothesis: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common condition that may decrease women's quality of life. Risk factors remain debatable based on previous research. We aimed to determine the prevalence of UI and associated risk factors among women aged 50-70 years in Hunan, China., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from May to August 2018 using a face-to-face questionnaire. In total, 2790 women aged 50-70 years were recruited using multi-stage stratified random sampling in Hunan. Dependent variable was UI. Independent variables were demographic characteristics, health behaviours, obstetric history and comorbidity. Data were entered into EpiData and analysed using SPSS. Chi-square tests were used to assess associations between categorical variables. Statistically significant variables (p ≤ 0.05) were then analysed by logistic regression., Results: The prevalence of UI was 14.84% (414/2790). Of the women with UI, 61.1% (253/414) had stress urinary incontinence (SUI), 21.5% (89/414) had urgency urinary incontinence (UUI), and 17.1% (72/414) had mixed urinary incontinence (MUI). Risk factors for UI included ageing, living in the countryside, history of gynaecological disease, hypertension and cardiovascular disease., Conclusions: UI in women aged 50-70 years in Hunan was not as prevalent as reported in previous studies. Some possible reasons are addressed; for example, the primary survey in this study was not a UI-focused survey. Women who were older, lived in the countryside and had histories of gynaecological disease, hypertension or cardiovascular disease were more likely to have UI. Health departments and medical staff should target patients with factors that potential contribute to UI development.

Aim: To investigate the prevalence of SUI and explore the factors that could influence the severity of SUI in adult females. Design: A cross‐sectional study. Methods: A total of 1178 subjects were assessed using a risk‐factor questionnaires and International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Short Form (ICIQ‐SF) and then divided into no SUI group, mild SUI group and moderate‐to‐severe SUI group according to the ICIQ‐SF score. Univariate analysis between adjacent groups and ordered logistic regression models in three groups were then performed to analysis the possible associated factor with the progressive of SUI. Results: The prevalence of SUI among adult women was 22.2% of them; 16.2% and 6% had mild SUI and moderate‐to‐severe SUI, respectively. Moreover, logistic analysis revealed that age, BMI, smoking, position preference for urination, urinary tract infections, urinary leaks during pregnancy, gynaecological inflammation and poor sleep quality were independent risk for the severity of SUI. Conclusion: SUI symptoms were mostly mild among Chinese females, specific risk factors such as unhealthy living habits and urination behaviours increased the risk of SUI and the aggravation of symptoms. Objectives: To assess prevalence of urinary incontinence (UI), including urgency UI (UUI), stress UI (SUI) and mixed UI (MUI) in individuals aged ≥40 years in China, Taiwan and South Korea., Method: This was a post hoc analysis of a cross-sectional, questionnaire-based internet survey. Participants were asked questions relating to urinary symptoms, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and mental health (using the HRQoL 12-item short form health survey mental health and physical domains, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale), visits to healthcare professionals (HCPs) for any reason or for urinary symptoms, treatments for urinary symptoms and treatment satisfaction., Results: Of 8284 survey participants, 1818 (22%) reported any UI (men 17.3%, women 26.4%). MUI was the most prevalent (overall 9.7%, men 6.8%, women 12.6%) followed by SUI (overall 7.9%, men 5.1%, women 10.7%) and UUI (overall 4.3%, men 5.5%, women 3.2%). HRQoL, anxiety and depression scores were poor in all participants with UI; MUI was associated with the worst scores. Of the participants with UI, 46.9% visited HCPs for urinary symptoms (highest proportion [62.7%] among participants with MUI). Approximately 80% of participants with UI followed treatment, with prescribed medicine being the most common form (38.1%). Over half of participants (59.6%) were somewhat, very, or extremely satisfied with their treatment. Background: Urinary incontinence treatment includes conservative treatment, physical devices, medication, and surgery. Pelvic floor muscle training combined with bladder training is among the most effective, non-invasive, and economical ways to treat urinary incontinence, and compliance with training is essential in urinary incontinence treatment. Several instruments assess pelvic floor muscle training and bladder training. However, no tool has been found that assesses compliance with pelvic floor muscle training when combined with bladder training for urinary incontinence. This study aimed to develop a rehabilitation training compliance scale for patients with urinary incontinence and to evaluate its validity and reliability. Methods: This study was performed in two tertiary hospitals in Hainan, China between December 2020 and July 2021, 123 patients were included. A literature review, group discussions, and two rounds of letter consultations were performed to acquire the item pool and finalise the 12 items for this scale. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach's α, split-half reliability, test–retest reliability, content validity, construct validity, convergent and discriminant validity, and criterion-related validity were used to examine the items in the scale. Results: A 12-item scale comprising three factors accounted for 85.99% of the variance in the data. The Cronbach's α, split-half reliability, test–retest reliability, and content validity index of the scale were 0.95, 0.89, 0.86, and 0.93, respectively. Comparison with the Chen pelvic floor muscle exercise self-efficacy scale showed high calibration correlation validity (coefficient = 0.89). Conclusions: The training compliance scale developed in this study is a valid and reliable measurement tool to assess pelvic floor muscle training and bladder training compliance in patients with urinary incontinence. Background: The effect of gestational weight gain (GWG) as a controllable factor during pregnancy pelvic floor function has rarely been investigated, and studies on twin primiparas are even less frequent. The objective of the present study was to explore the effect of GWG on postpartum pelvic floor function in twin primiparas. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 184 twin primiparas in the pelvic floor rehabilitation system of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from January 2020 to October 2021. Based on the GWG criteria recommended by the Institute of Medicine, the study subjects were classified into two groups: adequate GWG and excessive GWG. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were applied to explore the relationship between GWG and pelvic floor function. Results: Among the 184 twin primiparas, 20 (10.87%) had excessive GWG. The rates of abnormal vaginal dynamic pressure (95% vs. 74.39%), injured type I muscle fibers (80% vs. 45.73%), anterior vaginal wall prolapse (90% vs. 68.90%), and stress urinary incontinence (50% vs. 20.12%) of twin primiparas with excessive GWG were significantly higher than those with adequate GWG. There was no significant difference between the total score of the Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory-Short Form 20 (PFDI-20) or the scores of the Pelvic Organ Prolapse Distress Inventory 6 (POPDI-6), the Colorectal-Anal Distress Inventory 8 (CRADI-8), and the Urinary Distress Inventory 6 (UDI-6) in the two groups (P > 0.05). After adjusting for potential confounding factors, the results showed that excessive GWG was positively associated with abnormal vaginal dynamic pressure (OR = 8.038, 95% CI: 1.001–64.514), injured type I muscle fibers (OR = 8.654, 95% CI: 2.462–30.416), anterior vaginal wall prolapse (OR = 4.705, 95% CI: 1.004–22.054), and stress urinary incontinence (OR = 4.424, 95% CI: 1.578–12.403). Conclusion: Excessive GWG in twin primiparas was positively correlated with the prevalence of pelvic floor dysfunction but did not exacerbate pelvic floor symptoms in twin primiparas. Background: To assess the relationship between infant birthweight and pelvic floor muscle (PFM) strength in China. Methods: We performed a retrospective, single-center cohort study of 1575 women delivering vaginally between January 2017 and May 2020. All participants completed pelvic floor examinations within 5–10 weeks after delivery and were evaluated for PFM strength, which was estimated by vaginal pressure. Data were collected from electronic records. We evaluated the association between infant birthweight and vaginal pressure through multivariable-adjusted linear regression analysis. We also performed subgroup analyses stratified by potential confounders. Results: Vaginal pressure decreased as the quartile of birthweight increased (P for trend < 0.001). Beta coefficients were -5.04 (95%CI -7.98 to -2.1), -5.53 (95%CI -8.5 to -2.57), -6.07 (95%CI -9.08 to -3.07) for birthweight quartile 2–4, respectively (P for trend < 0.001), independent of age, postpartum hemorrhage, and the number of vaginal deliveries. In addition, the results of subgroup analyses showed the same patterns across strata. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that infant birthweight was associated with decreased vaginal pressure in women after vaginal delivery and could be considered a risk factor for decreased PFM strength in the population with vaginal delivery. This association may provide an extra basis for appropriate fetal weight control during pregnancy, and for earlier pelvic floor rehabilitation of postpartum women delivering babies with larger birthweight. Introduction and hypothesis: Urinary incontinence (UI) is prevalent in antenatal and postnatal women. Pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) is the first-line treatment for UI. Group-based PFMT provides a way for professionals to deliver this intervention to more women who need to prevent and/or treat UI. This review aims to (1) assess the effectiveness of group-based PFMT in preventing and treating UI in antenatal and postnatal women and (2) explore the characteristics of group-based intervention and factors which had an impact on the success of group-based PFMT. Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included in this review. A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, Medline, PsycINFO, Maternity and Infant Care Database, CINAHL, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP Database and Wanfang Database. The overall quality was assessed using Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE). RCTs which included pregnant and/or postnatal women with or without UI investigating the effectiveness of group-based PFMT were included. Results: Five RCTs were included in this review. The overall quality of the results of the included studies was low. Delivering group-based PFMT during pregnancy significantly reduced the prevalence of UI in both the pregnant period [risk ratio (RR) = 0.67, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.57 to 0.80, P < 0.00001] and the postnatal period [RR = 0.66, 95% CI 0.52 to 0.84, P = 0.0008]. Only one RCT delivered group-based PFMT during the postnatal period. Conclusion: Evidence of weak quality supports the effectiveness of undertaking group-based PFMT in pregnancy to prevent UI during pregnancy and the postnatal period. Introduction and hypothesis: The efficacy of physiotherapy for postpartum lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) has attracted considerable research interest. In the current study we evaluated the efficacy and safety of pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) combined with biofeedback (BF), electrical stimulation (ES) therapy, or both for postpartum LUTS. Methods: PUBMED, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Science and Technique Journals Database, and Wanfang databases were searched from inception to December 2020. Eligible randomized controlled trials on postpartum LUTS comparing PFMT plus BF, ES, or both with PFMT alone were included. The Cochrane handbook was used to evaluate the quality of the studies. Results: Seventeen studies were included. The results of the meta-analysis showed that PFMT plus ES with or without BF was more effective than PFMT alone. Patients receiving PFMT plus ES and BF achieved greater improvement than controls receiving PFMT alone in incontinence quality of life scores (mean difference: 15.33, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 11.70–18.97, P < 0.00001), pelvic floor muscle strength (risk ratio: 2.29, 95% CI: 1.53–3.43, P < 0.0001), and urodynamic parameters (maximum urethral closure pressure, abdominal leak point pressure, and maximum urinary flow rate), and 1-h urine leakage (standardized mean difference: −0.70, 95% CI: −1.23 to −0.17, P = 0.010) also decreased. Aim: Urinary incontinence (UI) causes long‐term physical and psychological suffering to patients. Risk factors for different UI subtypes and symptom severity are still unclear, as well as their associations. We aimed to examine the potential influencing factors of UI episodes, UI severity and UI subtypes, and the associations among them. Methods: A total of 611 women were recruited in Shantou, China. Clinical and demographic data were collected through electronic medical records, measurements and self‐reports. UI diagnosis, subtypes and symptom severity were confirmed according to international uniform standards. The health burden of UI was evaluated by the Incontinence Impact Questionnaire. Multivariate logistic and linear regression models were carried out to examine the potential risk factors and associations among UI subtypes, symptom severity, and health burdens. Results: Age, body mass index, comorbidity, lower urinary tract symptoms and constipation were associated with UI episodes and UI severity. Mixed UI patients had worse severity than urgency UI and stress UI, especially in leak times/week and daily life obstructing. Mixed UI patients also had higher health burdens, including mental health burdens, than urgency UI and stress UI patients. UI severity was positively associated with higher health burdens (β = 0.46, 95% CI 0.34–0.60), especially in physical activities, travel and social relationship burden (β = 0.61, 95% CI 0.40–0.85; β = 0.55, 95% CI 0.19–0.76; β = 0.65, 95% CI 0.38–0.91; respectively). Conclusions: Age, body mass index, comorbidity, somnipathy and constipation were associated with UI episodes and symptom severity. Mixed UI showed the highest symptoms severity and health burdens. Background: Individual studies have indicated variable prevalence for chronic cough, but thus far, there has been no systematic report on the prevalence of this condition.Methods: In this study, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis by searching databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese biomedical literature service system, Wanfang Database, and VIP database, for studies on chronic cough in China published before December 28, 2020. A random effects model was used to calculate pooled prevalence estimates with 95% confidence interval [95%CI], weighted by study size.Results: Fifteen studies with 141,114 community-based adults were included in the study, showing a prevalence of 6.22% (95% CI 5.03-7.41%). And 21 studies with 164,280 community-based children were included, presenting a prevalence of 7.67% (95% CI 6.24-9.11%). In subgroup meta-analyses, the prevalence in adults was 4.38% (95% CI 2.74-6.02%) in southern China and 8.70% (95% CI 6.52-10.88%) in northern China. In the children population, the prevalence in northern China was also higher than in southern China (northern vs. southern: 7.45% with a 95% CI of 5.50-9.41%, vs. 7.86% with a 95% CI of 5.56-10.16%).Conclusions: Our population-based study provides relatively reliable data on the prevalence of chronic cough in China and may help the development of global strategies for chronic cough management. In our study, patients who had a second delivery were categorised into the following 4 groups. Pelvic floor ultrasound data were compared during the 6th week after the second delivery. The incidence of cystoceles was highest in group A and lowest in group D. In addition, groups A and B had a higher rate of rectoceles or perineum descent. Similarly, the areas of the levator hiatus were higher in Groups A and B during Valsalva manoeuvres. The area of the levator hiatus from the resting state to the Valsalva manoeuvre effect had the greatest change in Group A. A comparison of the PR thickening rates among the four groups did not reveal significant differences. All second delivery methods can cause varying degrees of pelvic organ prolapse and decreased pelvic floor function; however, vaginal delivery as the second delivery mode may have a more significant effect in Chinese women. What is already known on this subject? Different modes of delivery have significantly different effects on female pelvic floor function. Pregnancy beyond 35 weeks of gestation has an effect on female pelvic floor function, irrespective of the mode of delivery. What do the results of this study add? This study analysed the impact of different delivery modes on Chinese female pelvic floor function. Parous women who underwent different modes of second delivery all demonstrated different degrees of pelvic organ prolapse, as well as pelvic floor function decline. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Our study will provide basic research of Chinese female pelvic floor function after a second delivery, which will be of clinical significance around the world, as well as in China. China will keep promoting further delivery as the aging population is increasing. Objective: To examine the impact of electroacupuncture (EA) at the 'four sacral points' on urge urinary incontinence (UUI). Methods: Twenty-five patients diagnosed with UUI or urgency-predominant mixed urinary incontinence (MUI) were treated by EA at the 'four sacral points'. EA was performed in the sacrococcygeal region using disposable sterile 0.40-mm-diameter acupuncture needles that were either 100 or 125 mm in length. Treatments were delivered once every other day. Before and after treatment, a questionnaire measuring symptom severity and quality of life associated with UUI was administered. Results: The median total score (interquartile range) from the severity of symptoms and the quality of life questionnaire (Q-score) of the participants was significantly reduced from 12 (7.5, 15) before treatment to 3 (0, 6) after 6 (6, 12) EA treatments. The Q-score of urgency-predominant MUI and UUI was 8 (5, 14.5) and 12.5 (11, 15), respectively, before treatment; after treatment these were reduced to 2 (0, 7.5) and 4.5 (2, 6), respectively. There was no statistically significant difference in the Q-score between urgency-predominant MUI and UUI before and after treatment. Upon treatment completion, seven patients (28%) were 'cured' (improvement rate 100%). Treatments were considered 'markedly effective' (improvement rate 75% to <100%) in four patients (16%), 'effective' (improvement rate 50% to <75%) in eight patients (32%), 'minimally effective' (improvement rate 25% to <50%) in three patients (12%), and 'ineffective' (improvement rate <25%) in three patients (12%). The overall success rate (comprising 'cured', 'markedly effective' and 'effective' categories) was 76%, and no adverse effects associated with acupuncture treatment were reported. Background: This review of studies on urinary incontinence (UI) was focused primarily on UI prevalence rates and associated factors across the adult lifecourse of Chinese women. UI is a urologic symptom that can have a significant impact on women's physical and mental health and quality of life. In addition, women with UI may experience socioeconomic burdens due to UI's effect on their ability to work and function in society. Although researchers from many countries have reported prevalence rates and associated factors for UI, little is known about the prevalence of UI in China's large female population. Language may act as a barrier to the inclusion of published studies in English-language journals. To overcome this barrier and to add to the global knowledge base about UI in women, the authors reviewed and discussed findings from epidemiological studies published in China and in Chinese language.Methods: The authors retrieved research studies from the Wanfang database using the following search terms: "Subject: (Female) × Subject: (Urinary incontinence) × Subject: (Prevalence) × Date: 2013 to 2019". Searches employed the China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals and China Biology Medicine Database. The authors also used PubMed to search English-language studies published in Chinese journals on UI in Chinese women.Results: This literature review includes 48 articles published between January 2013 and December 2019. The overall UI prevalence rates reported in adult Chinese women ranged from 8.7 to 69.8%, representing 43-349 million women, respectively. For women aged 17-40 years, 41-59 years, and 60 years and older, prevalence rates ranged from 2.6-30.0, 8.7-47.7, to 16.9-61.6%, respectively. Significant associated factors for overall UI included age, body mass index, constipation, parity, and menopause. Despite the 17-40 age range being peak reproductive years, the literature revealed little focus on UI prevalence rates. For women aged 41-59 years, the main associated factors included those related to pregnancy and gynecologic diseases. For women 60 years and older, chronic diseases represented most of the associated factors.Conclusions: About 43-349 million Chinese women may experience UI. Many of the identified associated factors could be mitigated to reduce UI incidence and prevalence rates. Little is known about the prevalence rates and associated factors for UI among young (aged 17-40) Chinese women. Introduction and hypothesis: Urinary incontinence (UI) is prevalent among women, including young women (18–30 years old). This article aims to explore the prevalence of UI, as well as toileting behaviors and other factors that are associated with UI, in female college students in central China. Methods: We used convenience sampling to recruit 1000 students from five institutions of higher education. We distributed pencil-and-paper questionnaires to obtain demographic, environmental, and general health information, including whether UI was present or not, and information regarding toileting behaviors used by the respondents. Results: Most students, n = 929, responded to the questionnaire. Their ages ranged from 18 to 26 years old (average: 20.5 ± 1.6); 23.6% of these respondents reported UI, 52.7% often/always worried about public toilet cleanliness, and 25.3% often/always delayed emptying their bladder when they were busy. Respondents who were between 21 and 26 years old had a lower probability of UI (odds ratio [OR] = 0.867 and 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.771–0.975) than younger respondents (18–21 years old). Respondents who reported constipation (OR = 2.395, 95% CI = 1.494–3.839), drank alcohol (OR = 1.763, 95% CI = 1.114–2.792), often/always delayed urination (OR = 1.738, 95% CI = 1.306–2.313), and/or often/always strained to urinate (OR = 1.433, 95% CI = 1.111–1.849) had greater odds of having UI than respondents who did not have constipation or engage in these behaviors. Conclusions: UI is prevalent in young Chinese women who are attending college. Objectives: To investigate factors that may be associated with urinary incontinence (UI) in abdominal obese and non-obese adult males. Methods: Data were analyzed for 2671 men (≥40 years of age) who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2005–2008). We define abdominal obesity as a waist circumference >102 cm. Men with Incontinence Severity Index ≥3 were defined as having UI. Logistic regression analyses were used to identify factors associated with stress and urge UI. Results: Multivariate analysis found that in abdominal obese men, stress UI was associated with enlarged prostate (odds ratio [OR] = 2.20, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.16–4.16), chronic respiratory tract disease (OR = 2.78, 95% CI: 1.55–4.97), and major depression (OR = 4.79, 95% CI: 1.79–12.84). In non-obese men, arthritis was associated with stress UI (odds ratio = 3.37, 95% CI: 1.06–10.73). Urge UI in abdominally obese men was associated with age ≥65 years (OR = 1.67, 95% CI: 1.05–2.67), being non-Hispanic black (OR = 1.63, 95% CI: 1.06–2.52), and with enlarged prostate (OR = 2.30, 95% CI: 1.54–3.40), arthritis (OR = 1.39, 95% CI: 1.03–1.88), and major depression (OR = 2.96, 95% CI: 1.89–4.64). Urge UI in non-obese men was associated with current smoking (OR = 1.79, 95% CI: 1.01–3.17), major depression (OR = 2.60, 95% CI: 1.33–5.09) and vitamin D deficiency (OR = 1.61, 95% CI: 1.01–2.59). Conclusion: Factors associated with urinary incontinence varied with abdominal obesity status and type of UI. Introduction: Few population-based data are available evaluating the prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in Asia. The objective of our study was to determine LUTS prevalence in China, Taiwan, and South Korea using International Continence Society (ICS) 2002 criteria.Methods: An Internet-based self-administered survey among individuals aged at least 40 years with the ability to use a computer and to read the local language. Survey questions included ICS symptom definitions and the international prostate symptom score (IPSS). Data analysis was based on descriptive statistics and post hoc significance testing.Results: There were 8284 participants, of whom 51% were women and 34% were aged at least 60 years. LUTS prevalence was slightly higher in men than women (62.8% vs. 59.6%; p = 0.004), increasing significantly with age (p = 0.001). All three ICS symptom groups (voiding, storage, and post-micturition) were present in 35% of individuals with LUTS. Symptoms with the highest overall prevalence were nocturia, frequency, incomplete emptying, and terminal dribble. The most bothersome symptoms were terminal dribble, nocturia, and urgency. According to IPSS scores, 87% of participants had at least mild symptoms; 43% of those aged over 60 years had moderate/severe symptoms. The percentage of participants with any LUTS who had visited healthcare professionals because of urinary symptoms was 26%, rising to 45% amongst individuals with all three symptom groups (p = 0.001 vs. other ICS symptom groups).Conclusions: LUTS are highly prevalent in men and women aged at least 40 years who participated in this study in China, Taiwan, and South Korea and increases with increasing age. Urinary and fecal incontinence affect older women's social participation and mental health. This study examined the relationship between incontinence severity and depressive symptoms, focusing on the mediating effect of social participation, based on secondary analysis of structured interview data collected in December 2010 from 467 women age 60 and over in mainland China. Incontinence was significantly and positively associated with depressive symptoms but negatively associated with social participation. Social participation was significantly and negatively associated with depressive symptoms and fully mediated the relationship between incontinence and depressive symptoms. These findings can inform mental health interventions for incontinent older women, including preventing and responding to depressive symptoms by promoting social participation. Aim: To investigate the urination behaviours of senior citizens in China., Methods: Stratified random sampling was used to recruit senior citizens who met the inclusion criteria from five cities in China. After training by researchers, participants recorded their urination behaviours in real time by using the validated 7-day 24-hour urination behaviour record, which consisted of frequency of urination, time of urination, urinary urgency and urine colour., Results: Of the 551 recruited participants, 524 (233 male and 291 female) completed the survey, yielding a completion rate of 95.1%. The median frequency of urination was 7.4 times per day. The frequency of urination was highest among participants in Guangzhou, at 8.0 times per day (χ 2  = 29.356; P < .001), and participants in the first percentile body mass index group, at 8.0 times per day (χ 2  = 10.344; P = .016). The percentage of participants who urinated >7 times during the day was 44.3%. The percentage of participants who urinated ≥1 time at night was 77.5%. The number of times participants reported feeling no urge to urinate, a strong urge to urinate and an uncomfortable urge to urinate accounted for 59.7%, 62.8% and 24.8% of all records of urinary urgency, respectively. Instances of patients having no urge to urinate, a strong urgent to urinate and an uncomfortable urge accounted for 16.1%, 13.3% and 2.9% of all instances of urination, respectively. The number of times participants whose urine was yellow and dark yellow accounted for 69.1% and 18.9% of all records of urine colour, respectively. Urine with yellow and dark yellow colour accounted for 13.0% and 1.5%, respectively., Conclusion: Unhealthy urination behaviours, including urinating at night and holding back urine, were common among senior citizens. Purpose: No previous study has used a data-driven approach to explore symptom subclasses among patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). The objectives of this study were to use latent class analysis (LCA) to identify distinct classes of LUTS among primary care patients and to assess the class differences in health-related quality of life (HRQOL)., Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 500 patients were randomly recruited, and 18 symptoms according to the International Continence Society 2002 criteria were assessed. Classes were identified by LCA. Patient HRQOL was measured using the 12-item Short Form Health Survey (version 2), the modified Incontinence Impact Questionnaire-Short Form and the HRQOL item from the International Prostate Symptom Score., Results: Six distinct LUTS classes were identified: "asymptomatic" (26.0%), "mild symptoms" (22.6%), "moderate multiple symptoms" (17.0%), "urgency symptoms" (13.8%), "urinary incontinence" (12.0%) and "severe multiple symptoms" (8.6%). Multinomial regression analysis found differences in the gender distribution and prevalence of heart diseases across classes, and multiple linear regression found that patients with "severe multiple symptoms" and "urinary incontinence" had the poorest HRQOL., Conclusion: Almost three quarters of the primary care patients in this study were suffering from varying degrees of LUTS. The poor HRQOL in "severe multiple symptoms" and "urinary incontinence" implies that patients in these classes require additional attention and treatments.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the mental health of Chinese primary care patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). This was a cross-sectional observational study. Five hundred and nineteen subjects with LUTS completed a structured questionnaire containing the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-Short Form, the International Prostate Symptom Score, the adapted International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Urinary Incontinence Short Form and questions about socio-demographics. Overall, 17.7% of subjects reported depressive symptoms, 24.3% anxiety symptoms and 9.6% stress symptoms. In males, demographic factors associated with poorer mental health included being not married; clinical factors included higher LUTS severity, weak stream, straining and mixed urinary incontinence. In females, demographic factors associated with poorer mental health included being younger, not married and lower household income; clinical factors included higher LUTS severity, incomplete bladder emptying, urgency and weak stream. Chinese primary care patients with LUTS appear to be an at-risk group for poorer mental health with increased prevalence of anxiety and depressive symptoms and may require routine screening to identify those who may require more tailored interventions to address both their urinary symptoms and psychological distress.
