The establishment of protective forests plays a crucial role in mitigating soil erosion on slopes within hilly and gully regions. However, in practical applications, the configuration of protective forests on slopes is intricate and diverse, and the suitability and rationality of different configuration patterns for various slope sections have not been thoroughly investigated. This study focuses on a 40-year-old artificial protective forest, examining 16 different configuration patterns on the top, middle, and lower slopes. It compares the growth conditions, community structure stability, and characteristics of the saturated soil's hydraulic conductivity. The findings indicate that the top slope should be identified as a critical area for slope protection. The optimal configuration for this area is the "tree + grass" pattern with a spacing of 5 m × 5 m, which promotes the optimal growth of tree species and effectively reduces the surface runoff of gravel particles ranging from 1 cm to 3 cm in diameter. On the middle slope, the "tree + shrub + grass" structure proves effective in slowing down the erosive force of slope runoff. The recommended spacing for trees is 5 m × 6 m, and for understory shrubs, it is 1 m × 6 m. This configuration pattern results in the most stable structure for the plant community and maximizes the water conservation potential of forest litter. By analyzing the characteristics of the saturated soil's hydraulic conductivity, we find that the complexity of the plant configuration on the lower slopes is correlated with a greater coefficient of variation in the saturated soil's hydraulic conductivity. Nevertheless, there is no significant difference in the average soil saturated hydraulic conductivity per unit area between the different configuration patterns. Consequently, the lower slope can rely on the natural recovery of herbaceous plants. Urban form is closely related to CO2 emissions and the accurate estimation of the impact of urban form on CO2 emissions plays an important role in tackling climate change caused by the emission of greenhouse gases. In this paper, we quantitatively investigate the effects of urban form on CO2 emission and its efficiency from three perspectives: urban expansion, compactness, and complexity. By using panel quantile regression with fixed effects, we show that: (1) The estimation results about the relationship between urban form and CO2 emission and its efficiency are consistent with the literature. (2) The partial effects of urban form without controlling for socioeconomic factors are heterogeneous throughout the conditional distribution of CO2 emission and its efficiency. (3) Taking into consideration that the partial effects of urban form on CO2 emission and its efficiency might depend on the magnitude of socioeconomic factors, we include interaction terms into our model and find that the interaction effects between socioeconomic factors and urban form are heterogeneous across cities with different levels of CO2 emission and its efficiency. Our empirical findings shed light on the optimization of urban form in improving the CO2 emission efficiency, providing policy makers with effective ways of reducing CO2 emissions across cities with different levels of CO2 emissions. Portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) is very common and it plays a major role in the prognosis and clinical staging of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We have published the first version of the guideline in 2016 and revised in 2018. Over the past several years, many new evidences for the treatment of PVTT become available, especially for the advent of new targeted drugs and immune checkpoint inhibitors which have further improved the prognosis of PVTT. So, the Chinese Association of Liver Cancer and Chinese Medical Doctor Association revised the 2018 version of the guideline to adapt to the development of PVTT treatment. Willow (Salix), a dioecious plant, is an important ornamental tree species in the world. Salix linearistipularis , a perennial woody plant species naturally distributed on the Songnen Plain saline-alkali land in northeast China, has a high saline condition. To study the sexual differences of S. linearistipularis in salinity tolerance, the physiological and transcriptional responses to salinity were compared between female and male cuttings. Under salinity stress, the female leaves exhibited higher superoxide dismutase and peroxidase activities and photosynthetic capacity, and lower H2O2 contents than those of male leaves. Under salinity stress, sodium (Na+) accumulation in female leaves was lower than that in the male leaves. The non-invasive micro-test showed that the net Na+ efflux in the salt-treated female roots was higher than that in male roots. Physiological responses revealed that female cuttings were more tolerant than males, which may be mainly due to females having lower leaf Na+ accumulation and higher root Na+ efflux capacity than males. Transcriptional analyses showed that 108 differentially expressed salt-responsive genes were identified in both female and male roots; most of these showed sexual differences in expression patterns under salinity stress. RNA-seq combined with qPCR analysis showed that the salt-induced expression of four Na+/H+ antiporter (NHX) genes (SlNHX3, 5, 6, 7) in female roots was higher than that in male roots. Transcriptional analyses revealed that the higher Na+ efflux capacity in female roots than in male roots may be closely related to the differential expression of salt-responsive genes, especially NHX genes. The Upper Triassic Xujiahe tight-sand reservoir is characterized by low porosity and ultra-low permeability as well as intense heterogeneity. Investigation on depositional facies and their impact on reservoir quality has been proven to be a powerful tool to predict high-quality reservoirs. This study attempted to explain impacts of depositional environment and diagenesis on Xujiahe tight-sand reservoir quality in Guang'an area by: (1) identifying petrofacies and wireline logs patterns and analyzing the spatial variation of sedimentary facies, (2) determining diagenesis through detrital components, rock properties and their spatially variation as well. The results suggest that (1) T3x2, T3x4 and T3x6 were mainly deposited in delta system, including braided river in delta plain, delta distributary channels, underwater distributary channel, and mouth bar, etc., (2) the Upper Triassic Xujiahe Formation in the Guang'an area is typical tight-sand reservoir with porosity of 0.68–15.94% and permeability of 0.001–274 mD. Poor reservoir quality is attributed to intense compaction and dissolution during middle diagenetic stage A2, which are dominated by feldspathic litharenite and lithic sandstone. (3) Potential high-quality reservoirs in T3x2, T3x4 and T3x6 are associated with delta plain distributary channel, delta front underwater distributary channel and mouth bar, since high-energy delta channel microfacies typically resulted in a large number of primary pores in sand body. Desert-grassland transition zone is a critical ecological barrier frontier against sandstorms and desertification in northern China. Soil nutrient stoichiometry is closely related to plant community biomass, biodiversity, ecosystem functions and stability. However, how the relationship between climate, vegetation, and soil property drives the spatial pattern of soil nutrient stoichiometry remains unclear. We investigated soil organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN), and total phosphorus (TP) contents and their ratios (C:N, C:P and N:P) from 82 sites located in a desert-grassland transition zone in Inner Mongolia. SOC, TN, and TP contents, and soil C:P and N:P ratios were higher in typical grassland than that in shrub desert, higher in aridisols than in desert soil and desert eolian sand soil. The C:N ratio showed no significant difference between different vegetation types. SOC and TN contents showed an apparent decrease with soil depth in aridisols, of which the surface was well-covered by herbaceous plants. Soil TP content, C:N, C:P, and N:P ratios are different primarily among soil types, but not along soil depth, which may be mainly attributed to SOC, TN, and TP changed synergistically and weak soil leaching in desert areas. Redundancy analysis showed that precipitation, and silt and clay content were the most critical factors influencing SOC, TN, and TP stoichiometry. Structural equation modeling revealed that precipitation could impact soil nutrient stoichiometry by affecting the vegetation and soil physicochemical properties. Temperature and soil pH had impact on the mineralization and decomposition of organic matters, and significant direct and negative effect on SOC, TN, C:P, and N:P (except MAT) ratio. Our results highlighted the importance of current climate change on soil organic C, TN, and TP contents and C:N:P stoichiometry, and future climate change and its eco-impact in the desert-grassland transition zone. BACKGROUND CD4 + T helper 17 (Th17) cells play critical roles in inflammation and tumor development. The involvement of Th17 cells in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)-type inflammation-associated lung cancer has also been confirmed in animal models. However, to the authors' knowledge, it is unknown whether the role of Th17 cells is different in patients with lung cancer complicated with COPD compared with those without COPD. In the current study, the authors attempted to determine the association between the circulating levels of Th17-related cytokines and the clinical characteristics of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in patients with or without COPD. METHODS The authors designed a matched case-control study that included 70 patients with NSCLC with COPD, 148 patients with NSCLC without COPD, and 148 healthy controls. The data regarding the clinicopathological features of these participants were collected. Circulating levels of Th17-related cytokines, including interleukin (IL) 23 (IL-23), IL-17A, IL-17F, IL-22, and tumor necrosis factor-α, were measured. RESULTS The circulating levels of IL-23, IL-17A, IL-17F, IL-22, and tumor necrosis factor-α were found to be significantly higher in the patients with NSCLC compared with the healthy controls ( P<.05). The elevated levels were found to be significantly associated with lung cancer risk ( P<.05). However, no significant differences were found between patients with NSCLC with COPD and patients without COPD. It is interesting to note that, among patients with NSCLC without COPD, the levels of these cytokines were consistently higher among patients with stage I to stage IIIA disease compared with those with stage IIIB to stage IV disease ( P<.05). In addition, the 5 Th17-related cytokines demonstrated pairwise correlations, with Spearman rank correlation coefficients of 0.646 to 0.888 ( P<.05). CONCLUSIONS The results of the current study indicate a clear association between the Th17-related cytokine profile and the risk of NSCLC complicated by the presence or absence of COPD. Adonis amurensis is a perennial herbaceous flower that blooms in early spring in northeast China, where the night temperature can drop to −15 °C. To understand flowering time regulation and floral organogenesis of A. amurensis, the MIKCc-type MADS (Mcm1/Agamous/ Deficiens/Srf)-box genes were identified and characterized from the transcriptomes of the flower organs. In this study, 43 non-redundant MADS-box genes (38 MIKCc, 3 MIKC*, and 2 Mα) were identified. Phylogenetic and conserved motif analysis divided the 38 MIKCc-type genes into three major classes: ABCDE model (including AP1/FUL, AP3/PI, AG, STK, and SEPs/AGL6), suppressor of overexpression of constans1 (SOC1), and short vegetative phase (SVP). qPCR analysis showed that the ABCDE model genes were highly expressed mainly in flowers and differentially expressed in the different tissues of flower organs, suggesting that they may be involved in the flower organ identity of A. amurensis. Subcellular localization revealed that 17 full-length MADSs were mainly localized in the nucleus: in Arabidopsis, the heterologous expression of three full-length SOC1-type genes caused early flowering and altered the expression of endogenous flowering time genes. We aimed to explore the transmission dynamics of the Omicron BA.1.1 variant in an outbreak in China. We constructed 113 transmission pairs based on the time of exposure and symptom onset for identified infectors and infectees, using the epidemiological data collected during an outbreak in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China, between January and February 2022. The key epidemiological parameters were estimated. The mean estimates of the incubation period and latent period distributions were 3.8 days (95% credible interval: 3.5, 4.1) and 3.1 days (2.8, 3.5), respectively. The overall transmission risk peaked at symptom onset, and we estimated that 33.6% (24.8, 42.5) of transmission occurred before symptom onset. The forward generation time decreased from 5.2 days (4.7, 5.7) at the start of the outbreak to 2.2 days (2.0, 2.5) by the end. Allowing this variation over time in the generation time distribution, we estimated that the reproduction number dropped rapidly from 9.5 (3.5, 18.4) to 0.8 (0.3, 1.5) over the outbreak. Shorter incubation period and latent period were estimated for the Omicron BA.1.1 variant. Low frequency oscillations (LFOs) in power systems usually fall into two types, i.e., forced oscillations and natural oscillations. Waveforms of the two are similar, but the suppression methods are different. Therefore, it is important to accurately identify LFO type. In this paper, a method for discriminating LFO type based on multi-dimensional features and a feature selection algorithm combining ReliefF and minimum redundancy maximum relevance algorithm (mRMR) is proposed. Firstly, 53 features are constructed from six aspects—time domain, frequency domain, energy, correlation, complexity, and modal analysis—which comprehensively characterize the multidimensional features of LFO. Then, the optimal feature subset with greater relevance and less redundancy is extracted by ReliefF-mRMR. In order to improve the classification performance, a modified Support Vector Machine (SVM) with Genetic Algorithm (GA) optimizing the key parameters is adopted, which is conducted in MATLAB. Finally, in 179-bus system, the samples of LFOs are generated by the Power System Analysis Toolbox (PSAT) and the accuracy of the LFO type identification model is verified. In ISO New England and East China power grid, it is proven that the proposed method can accurately identify LFO type considering the influences of noise, oscillation mode, and data incompletion. Temperature is one of the most important environmental factors affecting flowering in plants. Adonis amurensis, a perennial herbaceous flower that blooms in early spring in northeast China where the temperature can drop to −15 °C, is an ideal model for studying the molecular mechanisms of flowering at extremely low temperatures. This study first investigated global gene expression profiles at different developmental stages of flowering in A. amurensis by RNA-seq transcriptome and iTRAQ proteomics. Finally, 123 transcription factors (TFs) were detected in both the transcriptome and the proteome. Of these, 66 TFs belonging to 14 families may play a key role in multiple signaling pathways of flowering in A. amurensis. The TFs FAR1, PHD, and B3 may be involved in responses to light and temperature, while SCL, SWI/SNF, ARF, and ERF may be involved in the regulation of hormone balance. SPL may regulate the age pathway. Some members of the TCP, ZFP, MYB, WRKY, and bHLH families may be involved in the transcriptional regulation of flowering genes. The MADS-box TFs are the key regulators of flowering in A. amurensis. Our results provide a direction for understanding the molecular mechanisms of flowering in A. amurensis at low temperatures. In China, 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) has been available since 2017, but only via the private market with low uptake rate. We assessed the direct effectiveness of PCV13 against community acquired pneumonia (CAP) associated with PCV13 serotype carriage (VT-CAP). We conducted an observational cohort study of children born during 12-Dec-2016 to 30-Nov-2018 identified in the Suzhou Centers for Disease Control vaccine registry database, and who had at least one inpatient or outpatient record at the Suzhou University Affiliated Children's hospital (SCH) health-information-system (HIS) database. The vaccine registry cohort was followed through the HIS database through 30-Jun-2019 to identify hospitalized VT-CAP. Pneumococci were isolated from deep upper respiratory aspirates and serotyped with Quellung reactions. We included 139,127 children of whom 9024 (6.5%) received 1 + PCV13 doses (95.8% received 2 + doses). Within the total cohort, we identified 548 children hospitalized at SCH for VT-CAP, of whom 10 had received 2 + PCV13 doses. Adjusted for demographics, receipt of other childhood vaccines, and underlying medical conditions, the first visit vaccine effectiveness among children who had received 2 + PCV13 doses was 60.9% (95% CI: 25.8% to 79.4%) for VT-CAP and 17.9% (95% CI: 5.5% to 28.6%) for clinical CAP. Incidence rate reductions per 100,000 child-years of observation for all visits were 208 (95% CI: 118 to 298) for VT-CAP and 720 (95% CI: 304 to 1135) for clinical CAP. E-waste recycling employees represent a specific population with a high potential for exposure to dechlorane plus (DP). However, the impact of skin-adherent DP on human exposure within this group has not been well characterized. This study aimed to address this gap by collecting handwipe and matched serum samples (n = 86 pairs) of Chinese e-waste recycling employees. In vivo human dermal bioavailability of DP was also examined to achieve effective exposure estimation. As a result, DP was detected in all handwipe and serum samples, indicating the occurrence of widespread exposure in the study population. For all the participants, the median level of ∑DP (the sum of syn-DP and anti-DP) in the serum was 45.1 ng g -1 lipid weight (lw), while handwipe samples showed the loading of 10.8 ng per wipe. Notably, significant associations were found between DP handwipe loadings and matched serum levels (p<0.05). Next, the in vivo human dermal bioavailability was estimated to be 9.54% for ∑DP. Based on this value, the estimated average daily dose was 0.231 ng kg -1 d -1 (median values), contributing 10.9% to serum levels of ∑DP. The significant associations and 10.9% percentage contribution together underscore the non-negligible influence of dermal absorption on DP internal doses in the e-waste recycling employees. Moreover, the extremely high levels of DP (up to 3.64E+04 ng g -1 lw) detected in serum highlight the extent of DP accumulation in humans. Vegetation has an important influence on soil temperature (ST). However, the possible effects of surface vegetation on ST and their feedback on microclimate remain uncertain due to the lack of in-situ and long-term environmental records, especially for arid and semiarid regions of the world. A continuous, two-year study was implemented over a bare sand dune (BF) and two scrub-vegetation sites of variable cover in the Mu Us Desert of northwest China. Surface vegetation at the two non-bare sites varied from about 40% (moderate cover, MF) and 80 % (high cover, HF) of their respective surface area. Depiction of the vertical ST-profile was based on an array of field-based measurements taken within the uppermost 180 cm of the soil complex at each site. Compared with the BF site, mean ST at MF and HF decreased by 1.2 and 1.6 °C during the uniform thaw period and increased by 0.1 and 1 °C during uniform freezing. Amplitude of seasonal variation in ST for both vegetated sites, i.e., MF and HF, was reduced by 2.4 and 4.9 °C, respectively. As soil cooling during the uniform thaw period was greater than soil warming during uniform freezing, annual mean ST decreased at both vegetated sites by 1.6 and 1.2 °C (for MF and HF, respectively) compared to ST at BF. Differences in ST among the three sites during the uniform freeze and thaw periods were exponentially correlated with the extent of site vegetation cover, leaf area index, aboveground biomass, and on-the-ground litter thickness. Vegetation cover was shown to reduce the depth of the frost layer by 30 cm and prolonged the uniform thaw period by 1-35 days at the HF site. Mean daily STs at the center of each soil layer at the three sites were simulated with a two-equation model developed for this study, yielding a coefficient of determination (R 2 ) of 0.91 when modeled STs were compared against their corresponding field observations. Increases in winter ST has potential to safeguard ground-dwelling grubs and other agriculturally harmful insects from freezing and dying. Background: Caregivers of children who have had liver transplantation often experience chronic care stress. Previous studies have focused on caregivers' negative feelings (e.g., caregiver burden), but few studies have focused on caregivers' positive feelings (e.g., sense of coherence) and caregiver ability., Objectives: The study purpose was to investigate the status of the burden of caregivers of children with liver transplantation, and to explore the mediating role of sense of coherence between caregiver ability and caregiver burden., Methods: There were 461 questionnaires collected from a tertiary-level hospital from caregivers of children who had liver transplantation from April to June 2022. Demographic data, Family Caregiver Task Inventory, Sense of Coherence Scale-13, and Zarit Burden Interview were used. The STROBE checklist was monitored., Results: The average caregiver burden score was 32.19 ± 16.71. The distribution of caregiver burden levels was mild (42.52%), none (26.25%), moderate (24.95%), and severe (6.29%). Caregiver ability score was negatively correlated with caregiver burden score; however, sense of coherence score was negatively correlated with caregiver burden score. Caregiver ability partially mediated caregiver burden through sense of coherence (38.51%)., Conclusion: The caregiver burden level was not heavy in general. Both positive and negative feelings were present in caregivers. Plant elemental composition and stoichiometry are useful tools for understanding plant nutrient strategy and biogeochemical cycling in terrestrial ecosystems. However, no studies have examined how plant leaf carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) stoichiometry responds to abiotic and biotic factors in the fragile desert-grassland ecological transition zone in northern China. Then a systematically designed 400 km transect was established to investigate the C, N, and P stoichiometry of 870 leaf samples of 61 species from 47 plant communities in the desert-grassland transition zone. At the individual level, plant taxonomic groups and life forms rather than climate or soil factors determined the leaf C, N, and P stoichiometry. In addition, leaf C, N, and P stoichiometry (except leaf C) was significantly influenced by soil moisture content in the desert-grassland transition zone. At the community level, leaf C content showed a considerable interspecific variation (73.41 %); however, the variation in leaf N and P content, as well as C:N and C:P ratios, was mainly due to intraspecific variation, which was in turn driven by soil moisture. We suggested that intraspecific trait variation played a key role in regulating community structure and function to enhance the resistance and resilience of plant communities to climate change in the desert-grassland transition zone. Objectives: This study aimed to describe and compare health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among populations with normal glycemic levels, prediabetes, and diabetes in southwest China and to offer baseline data that can be easily compared to other regions in China or across countries. Methods: A quality of life survey based on the EuroQoL-5 Dimension-5 level (EQ-5D-5L) scale was conducted through face-to-face or telephone interviews. A total of 403 respondents with diabetes, 404 with prediabetes, and 398 with normal blood glucose were enrolled in the survey. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to decrease the bias of three groups, conditioned on age and gender, body mass index (BMI), and household income. For the three groups, we matched two groups first and then matched the result with the third group. Differences among groups were compared by chi-square test one-way ANOVA after adjusting by PSM. Results: In general, the blood glucose of people with diabetes was generally well-controlled in southwest China, but they were often accompanied by the circulatory system and nutritional metabolic diseases. Ninety-nine individuals from each group were matched. The EuroQoL-5 Dimension index of the population with normal glycemic levels, prediabetes, and patients with diabetes was 0.901, 0.948, and 0.897. The EuroQol-visual analog scales (EQ-VAS) scores of each group above were 73.76, 77.45, and 68.34. HRQoL in males was higher than that of females in the three study groups. The results after PSM were consistent with that before matching. Background: Hand-foot-and-mouth disease&#95;(HFMD) is one of the most typical diseases in children that is associated with high morbidity. Reliable forecasting is crucial for prevention and control. Recently, hybrid models have become popular, and wavelet analysis has been widely performed. Better prediction accuracy may be achieved using wavelet-based hybrid models. Thus, our aim is to forecast number of HFMD cases with wavelet-based hybrid models., Materials and Methods: We fitted a wavelet-based seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average (SARIMA)-neural network nonlinear autoregressive (NNAR) hybrid model with HFMD weekly cases from 2009 to 2016 in Zhengzhou, China. Additionally, a single SARIMA model, simplex NNAR model, and pure SARIMA-NNAR hybrid model were established for comparison and estimation., Results: The wavelet-based SARIMA-NNAR hybrid model demonstrates excellent performance whether in fitting or forecasting compared with other models. Its fitted and forecasting time series are similar to the actual observed time series., Conclusions: The wavelet-based SARIMA-NNAR hybrid model fitted in this study is suitable for forecasting the number of HFMD cases. A 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine against invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) was introduced in China in April 2017. We describe 105 children <5 years of age who were hospitalized for IPD at Soochow University Affiliated Children's Hospital in Suzhou, China, during January 2010-December 2017. We calculated the incidence of hospitalization for IPD as 14.55/100,000 children in Suzhou. We identified 8 different capsular serotypes: 6B (28.4% of cases), 14 (18.9% of cases), 19A (18.9% of cases), 19F (12.2% of cases), 23F (10.8% of cases), 20 (4.1% of cases), 9V (4.1% of cases), and 15B/C (2.7% of cases). These results provide baseline data of IPD before the introduction of this vaccine in China, enabling researchers to better understand its effects on IPD incidence.

Objective: To analyze the measles immunity level of persistent population in Beijing., Methods: A total of 2125 objects from 10 age groups, who had been living in Beijing for over 6 months, were selected from urban and rural areas in Beijing in 2012. Demographic characteristics, history of measles and vaccine immunization were investigated by questionnaire. 5 ml blood sample of each subject was collected, and the Measles IgG antibody was measured by ELISA assay., Results: Positive rate of measles antibody was 84.71% (1800/2125) and standardized positive rate was 88.07% . Median of antibody was 960.46 IU/L. Positive rate and median of measles antibody were significantly different between population from different age groups (χ(2) = 341.60, P < 0.01; H = 216.27, P < 0.01). Antibody positive rate and median were lowest in the <1 year age group, which were separately 43.06% (90/209) and 185.80 IU/L; and highest in the 1-4 (97.31% (181/186) and 2448.81 IU/L) and 5-9 years age group (96.46% (218/226) and 1910.72 IU/L). The range of antibody positive rate and median in adults of ≥ 15 years were 81.98%-90.14% and 744.38-1474.84 IU/L. Antibody positive rate and median in persistent population, which were separately 82.45% (883/1071) and 899.82 IU/L, were lower than those in migrant population, which were 87.00% (917/1054) and 166.19 IU/L, respectively (χ(2) = 8.51, P < 0.01;U = 538 704.00, P < 0.01). Antibody positive rate and median in population with vaccination history, which were separately 91.95% (891/969) and 1443.11 IU/L, were higher than those population without vaccination history and people whose history unknown (32.95% (57/173) , 127.33 IU/L; 86.67% (852/983) , 923.73 IU/L). The difference showed statistical significance (χ(2) = 399.92, P < 0.01; H = 202.11, P < 0.01)., Conclusion: Among the persistent population in China, measles antibody level among the children aging 1-9 years old was high enough to prevent outbreak and epidemic of measles. However, we should try our best to strengthen the measles antibody level among the babies younger than 1 year old and the migrant population aging between 15 and 40 years old.
