Important in the dissemination of knowledge are the networks of editors and their editorial board members. These are crucial gatekeepers in maintaining contacts with their professional fields as well as identifying others to evaluate manuscripts submitted for possible publication. We examine the countries of editorial board members of twenty-nine major Anglophone journals and the regional sources of manuscripts and reviewers. The data reveal some journals have large numbers of board members and many submissions and others have much smaller numbers of both. North America (United States and Canada), Western Europe, and China were the major sources of English-language manuscripts submitted from 2017 to 2021. These results are useful for junior and senior scholars who seek to publish in major geographic journals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There are ample national, transnational, and international geopolitical conflicts around the world, the two most prominent likely being the current ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war, and the conflict between Taiwan (the Republic of China) and China (the People's Republic of China). To avoid criticism or the label of political bias, academics might refrain from using the term Taiwan or might not refer to it as a country. Similarly, they might not know whether they should refer to Crimea or the Donbas as being Ukrainian or Russian. Authors currently have little guidance and are somewhat left to their own devices when it comes to referring to these and other locations and territories, uncertain of the names that should be used to indicate them. They might also observe disclaimers on publishers' websites, in the footer of editorial board pages, or even as a small notice in their own manuscripts placed there by the publisher that distance the publisher from geopolitical conflicts and/or territorial claims, claiming neutrality, independent of whether those papers mention those conflicts, or not. Such disclaimers might be perceived as self-serving, placing the onus of responsibility of the choice of territorial term on authors' shoulders, so publishers should offer clearer advice to authors and editors on how to better handle this issue, that is, how to accurately name locations in geopolitically sensitive areas. There is a risk that papers that are insufficiently sensitive to such issues may be labelled as erroneous, and subjected to correction or retraction, or the authors may be subjected to public criticism or humiliation, so resolving this issue falls within the realm of academic publishing ethics. Currently, very little advice exists for geopolitical issues in the Committee on Publication Ethics and International Committee of Medical Journal Ethics ethics-related publishing guidelines. The editorial discusses the development of Chemistry - A European Journal and its team. The editorial presence in China has increased, reflecting the high proportion of manuscripts received from China. The Deputy Editor team has been renewed, with new members joining from Wiley-VCH and Angewandte Chemie. The journal has also strengthened its teamwork within the team and with other journal teams, as well as intensified interaction with the Editorial Advisory Board. Objective: With increased industrialization and urbanization in China, pediatric asthma is becoming more prevalent. Despite a growing body of evidence, there remains a significant unmet need for adequate management of childhood asthma. The Subspecialty Group of Respiratory Diseases of the Society of Pediatrics, the Chinese Medical Association, and the editorial board of the Chinese Journal of Pediatrics have recently updated the "Guidelines for diagnosis and optimal management of asthma in children," first published in 2008. Methods: This article reviews the major updates to the guidelines and covers the main recommendations for diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of pediatric asthma in China. Key regional data on epidemiology, clinical features, disease burden, knowledge among children and parents, and risk factors including pollution are provided to contextualize the recommendations. Results: The major updates to the guidelines include: (1) A more practical definition of asthma; (2) assessment of asthma control that takes into account both current symptom control and future risk; (3) classification based on disease severity that corresponds with treatment step; (4) differentiation between difficult-to-treat and poorly controlled asthma; (5) an open-ended approach to pharmacological management; and (6) allergen immunotherapy (AIT) in mild- to moderate-persistent asthma. Conclusions: The updated "Guidelines for the diagnosis and optimal management of asthma in children (2016)" combine the latest national and international clinical evidence and experience to provide practical and reliable recommendations to Chinese clinicians. The new era has given the new mission to higher education that pointed out the direction for construction and development of university laboratories. New tasks and new requirements of Research and Exploration in Laboratory are requested. This article presents a scientometric analysis of Mainland China Translation Studies (TS) scholars' international visibility. The analysis was mainly based on articles published in 13 international TS journals indexed in the SSCI or A&HCI databases between 2005 and 2013. Publication counting, citation analysis, editorial board composition analysis, and word analysis were used to investigate mainland Chinese TS scholars' international productivity, impact, and presence rate in the editorial boards of international TS journals, as well as the thematic landscape of their international contributions. Data analysis indicated that mainland Chinese TS scholars had low international visibility, reflected in their low international productivity, impact, and presence rate in the editorial boards of international TS journals, and that the thematic landscape of their research was different from that of the international TS community. The data also suggested that TS scholars from English-dominant and economically advanced countries had much higher international visibility. Implications were discussed with a view to changing the current state of low visibility. The current study provides not only an overview of the contributions of mainland Chinese TS scholars to the international TS community but also insights for future studies. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Rationale and Objectives: We examined the status of women's representation on radiology journal editorial boards around the world and evaluated temporal trends in female board representation., Materials and Methods: Data on the gender of editorial board members, deputy editors, and editors-in-chief of top general radiology journals from the United States and from five continents outside North America was collected, based on listings in mastheads of each journal at 5-year intervals from 1998 to 2018. Female editorial board representation was compared to female membership in national professional radiology organizations and national physician registries., Results: One of 42 editors-in-chief (2.4%), 24 of 135 deputy editors (17.8%), and 345 of 2545 (13.6%) editorial board members were female for the 20-year period. The overall percentage of female editorial board members increased from 9.7% (41 of 423) in 1998 to 17.0% (97 of 569) in 2018 (p < 0.0001). In 2018, women were less represented on the editorial boards than female professional society membership for all geographic regions except Australia/New Zealand; this difference reached statistical significance in Korea, Brazil, Europe, and China. Female editorial board representation ranged from 11.3% to 33.3%, with no significant difference between the United States (21.5%) and other countries., Conclusion: Although the proportion of female editorial board members of radiology journals worldwide has increased over the past two decades, female editorial board composition generally underrepresents the percentage of female radiologists.
