The currently implemented indiscriminate subsidy policy in China is difficult to provide effective incentives for a firm's investment behavior because it does not take into account the differences in resource characteristics. Thus, this paper puts forward a type of differentiated subsidy that considers resource conditions, consisting of a basic guaranteed subsidy and a variable incentive subsidy. First, from the perspective of the economic efficiency of enterprises, the amount of basic subsidy required by enterprises is calculated by the discounted cash flow method. Then, from the government's perspective, a variable incentive subsidy amount is calculated by establishing an expectation benefit maximization function using principal-agent theory. The case application shows that due to the superior resources and development conditions of the Fuling block, it requires a significantly smaller subsidy amount than the Weiyuan block which verifies the need to consider regional differences in the design of shale gas development subsidies. Expansion by photovoltaic (PV) technologies in the renewable energy market requires exploring added value integrated with business model innovation. In recent years, a pilot trial of PV water pumping (PVWP) technologies for the conservation of grassland and farmland has been conducted in China. In this paper, we studied the added value of the PVWP technologies with an emphasis on the integration of the value proposition with the operation system and customer segmentation. Using the widely used existing PV business models (PV-roof) as a reference, we evaluated discounted cash flow (DCF) and net present value (NPV) under the scenarios of traditional PV roof, PVWP pilot, PVWP scale-up, and PVWP social network, where further added value via social network was included in the business model. The results show that the integrated PVWP system with social network products significantly improves the performance in areas such as the discounted payback period, internal rate of return (IRR), and return on investment (ROI). We conclude that scenario PVWP social network with business model innovation, can result in value add-ins, new sources of revenue, and market incentives. The paper also suggests that current policy incentives for PV industry are not efficient due to a limited source of revenue, and complex procedures of feed-in tariff verification. At the transition period of manufacturing industry in China, intelligent manufacturing is compared to the “engine” of economic development. Those intelligent manufacturing enterprises maintain the long-term stability, prosperity and development can promote the “Made in China 2025” plan. R&D is an important approach for enterprises to gain competitive advantages and increase profits. Based on the shortcomings of the traditional discounted cash flow (DCF) method in R&D investment decision, this paper analyses the value of the growth option in R&D. And it points out that making the R&D investment decision should be combined with the value of future growth opportunities of the project. The purpose of this paper provide an evaluation model of R&D Investment value in Intelligent Manufacturing, as a reference on investment decision for intelligent manufacturing enterprises’ managers. Reducing negative impacts on the environment is the main benefit of green buildings. However, these benefits are typically evaluated using environmental indicators with different units and implications. Thus, comparisons among different technologies and projects with various benefits are difficult to perform. Moreover, the impact of green building development on economic system is difficult to analyze because of the lack of available data. This study proposes a method of identifying, quantifying and valuing the environmental benefits of green buildings based on the contributions of typical technologies. The environmental benefits are fully identified based on the cause-effect chain associated with changes in environmental endpoints caused by green technologies. Then, a valuation method is proposed, and it consists of the following four steps: quantifying the technical indicators using the application criteria and green technology impacts, quantifying the environmental indicators using available and reliable research data, valuing the environmental benefits using appropriate monetary valuation methods, and calculating the lifecycle benefits using the discounted cash flow method. All projects accredited by the Chinese Assessment Standard of Green Building from 2008 to 2015 were evaluated using the environmental valuation method. The results showed that 75% of typical green technologies could reduce the negative impacts on the environment through different endpoints. The benefit per unit area was valued as ¥ 3138.1 on average. The majority of the benefits (48.36%) were produced by underground space utilization. The public green building produced more environmental value than the residential green building. Overall, the environmental benefits were sufficient to cover the incremental costs of green building. The results obtained by the proposed assessment method provide more comprehensive information to related sectors than the green level standards; moreover, the benefits obtained by different technologies and projects with various environmental impacts can be compared, and important input data can be obtained for analyzing the macroeconomic effects of green building development. Algal blooms in urban water system is an international concern, which especially in China, have become a major obstacle to the urban water environment improvement since the preliminary achievements were made in the treatment of black and odorous water bodies. The complex blooming mechanisms require a joint regulation plan. This study established a framework that consisted of three steps, i.e., simulation, optimization, and verification, to build an optimal joint regulation plan. By taking the urban river network in Suzhou Pingjiang Xincheng as a case study, the cost-benefits of six alternative regulation measures were assessed using an algal bloom mechanism model and the discounted cash flow model based on 70 regulation scenarios. The joint regulation plan was optimized using the marginal-cost-based greedy strategy on the basis of the cost-benefits of different measures. The optimized joint plans, which were verified to be global optima, were more cost-effective than the designed regulation scenarios, and reduced the average chlorophyll-a concentrations by 55.3%–60.1% compared with the status quo. Applying the optimized cost allocation ratios of each measure to adjust the existing regulation scheme of another similar case verified that the optimization results had great generalizability. A major concern of policymakers and researchers in China is finding an appropriate size of the gross fixed capital investments for water conservancy (GFCIWC). This paper determines the optimal proportion of GFCIWC to GDP. Unlike engineering economics, we investigate the benefits of GFCIWC at a macro-economic level, using the 1999 input-output table extended for water conservancy. Different kinds of impacts are induced by GFCIWC. These include forward benefits (flood control, water supply, irrigation, hydroelectric power, soil and water conservation, environmental protection) and backward benefits for GDP; negative social effects; and opportunity costs of GFCIWC. The results are put into a set of regression equations between total benefits of GFCIWC and the proportion of GFCIWC to GDP, from which the optimal proportion - or a desirable range - can be determined. Residential solar photovoltaic (PV) installations have boomed in China over recent years. However, knowledge about the economic performance of residential PV investments is still limited. Therefore, this study attempts to make a complete economic assessment of residential PV systems at the county-level. After a brief description of China's incentive policies, a model is constructed with economic measures of internal rate of return and payback period based on discounted cash flow. Then, a reference PV system of 5 kW p is investigated in 2181 geographical areas using scenario analysis and sensitivity analysis. There is breakeven for residential PV investments all over China even without incentives. The areas with good performance of residential PV investments are located mostly in Northern China (Shandong and Hebei), Southern China (Guangdong and Hainan), northeast China (Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang), and southwest China (Sichuan and Tibet). The boom of residential PV installations is likely to recede in 2021 as the population with acceptable profitability declines since the central and local subsidies expire. But some excellent residential PV suppliers have the potential to compensate for the performance decrease in many ways such as increasing annual generation and reducing initial cost. Although rare earth deposits are found on all continents, China produces more than 90% of all globally used rare earth metals. Besides its economic dominance, China has also gained a monopolistic know how position in Rare Earth Elements process technologies. Based on China's dominant position in rare earth markets, other countries such as the USA, Australia, Europe and Japan are increasingly concerned about a stable rare earth supply and their increasing dependence on China. In 2019 the new trade conflict blazed up between China and the U.S., and the threat of China to decrease or even stop rare earth supply to the U.S. is a new chapter in the trade war which shows that new means of supply must be found. The main focus of this paper is to evaluate and compare advanced rare earth projects outside China with a new holistic and objective method to get a detailed picture of possible rare earth mining outside China. In addition to the exclusively economic investigation, specific countries' risk und price development scenarios are considered. This leads to an objective picture of rare earth mining outside of China, which is needed as a basis for discussions of secure rare earth supply for the western world. Building on this objective economic analysis, we can also add new supply risk due to new political situations. To this end, data is compiled on 14 selected focus projects with regard to the required investments, operating costs, and the potential revenues for each case. These data are used to develop a discounted cash flow model (with analogous assumptions and methods) for each project. This model enables the achievable net present value (NPV), the internal interest rate, and the static amortization period for each project to be determined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
