The present study aimed to investigate the mediating roles of parental and romantic attachment in the relationship between interparental conflict (IPC) and young adults' romantic relationship quality, and whether their mediating roles differ between males and females. A total of 160 heterosexual romantic couples (mean age = 21.82 years, SD = 1.72 years) from a capital city in western China volunteered to take part in an online survey, which encompassed self-report questionnaires of IPC, parental attachment, romantic attachment, and romantic relationship quality. Structural equation modeling was conducted to analyze data among males and females, respectively. Results suggested that male adults' attachment to mother independently mediated the relationship between IPC and male adults' romantic relationship quality, whereas romantic anxiety independently mediated the relationship between IPC and female adults' romantic relationship quality. In addition, for both males and females, parental and romantic attachment did not sequentially mediate the association between IPC and romantic relationship quality. Biofilms on the inner surface of a drinking water distribution system (DWDS) affect water quality and stability. Understanding the niche differentiation of biofilm microbial communities is necessary for the efficient control of DWDS biofilms. However, biofilm studies are difficult to conduct in the actual DWDS because of inaccessibility to the pipes buried underground. Taking the opportunity of infrastructure construction and relevant pipeline replacement in China, biofilms in a DWDS (a water main and its branch pipes) were collected in situ, followed by analysis on the abundances and community structures of bacterial and archaeal using quantitative PCR and high-throughput sequencing, respectively. Results showed that archaea were detected only in the biofilms of the water main, with a range of 9.4×103~1.1×105 copies/cm2. By contrast, bacteria were detected in the biofilms of branch pipes and the distal part of the water main, with a range of 8.8×103~9.6×106 copies/cm2. Among the biofilm samples, the archaeal community in the central part of the water main showed the highest richness and diversity. Nitrosopumilus was found to be predominant (86.22%) in the biofilms of the proximal part of the water main. However, Methanobrevibacter (87.15%) predominated in the distal part of the water main. The bacterial community of the water main and branch pipes was primarily composed of Firmicutes and Proteobacteria at the phylum level, respectively. Regardless of archaea or bacteria, only few operational taxonomic units (OTUs) (<0.5% of total OTUs) were shared by all the biofilms, indicating the niche differentiation of biofilm microorganisms. Moreover, the high Mn content in the biofilms of the distal sampling location (D3) in the water main was linked to the predominance of Bacillus. Functional gene prediction revealed that the proportion of infectious disease-related genes was 0.44–0.67% in the tested biofilms. Furthermore, functional genes related to the resistance of the bacterial community to disinfections and antibiotics were detected in all the samples, that is, glutathione metabolism-relating genes (0.14–0.65%) and beta-lactam resistance gene (0.01–0.05%). The results of this study indicate the ubiquity of archaea and bacteria in the biofilms of water main and branch pipes, respectively, and pipe diameters could be a major influencing factor on bacterial community structure. In the water main, the key finding was the predominant existence of archaea, particularly Nitrosopumilus and methanogen. Hence, their routine monitoring and probable influences on water quality in pipelines with large diameter should be given more attention. Besides, since Mn-related Bacillus and suspected pathogenic Enterococcus were detected in the biofilm, supplementation of disinfectant may be a feasible strategy for inhibiting their growth and ensuring water quality. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has driven public health intervention strategies, including keeping social distance, wearing masks in crowded places, and having good health habits, to prevent the transmission of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). However, it is unknown whether the use of these intervention strategies influences morbidity in other human infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis.Methods: In this study, three prediction models were constructed to compare variations in PTB incidences after January 2020 without or with intervention includes strict and regular interventions, when the COVID-19 outbreak began in China. The non-interventional model was developed with an autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model that was trained with the monthly incidence of PTB in China from January 2005 to December 2019. The interventional model was established using an ARIMA model with a continuing intervention function that was trained with the monthly PTB incidence in China from January 2020 to December 2020.Results: Starting with the assumption that no COVID-19 outbreak had occurred in China, PTB incidence was predicted, and then the actual incidence was compared with the predicted incidence. A remarkable overall decline in PTB incidence from January 2020 to December 2020 was observed, which was likely due to the potential influence of intervention policies for COVID-19. If the same intervention strategy is applied for the next 2 years, the monthly PTB incidence would reduce on average by about 1.03 per 100,000 people each month compared with the incidence predicted by the non-interventional model. The annual incidence estimated 59.15 under regular intervention per 100,000 in 2021, and the value would decline to 50.65 with strict interventions.Conclusions: Our models quantified the potential knock-on effect on PTB incidence of the intervention strategy used to control the transmission of COVID-19 in China. Combined with the feasibility of the strategies, these results suggested that continuous regular interventions would play important roles in the future prevention and control of PTB. The impact of brown carbon aerosol (BrC) on the Earth's radiative forcing balance has been widely recognized but remains uncertain, mainly because the relationships among BrC sources, chromophores and optical properties of aerosol are poorly understood. In this work, the light absorption properties and chromophore composition of BrC were investigated for samples collected in Xi'an, northwestern China, from 2015 to 2016. Both absorption Ångström exponent (AAE) and mass absorption efficiency (MAE) show distinct seasonal differences, which could be attributed to the differences in sources and chromophore composition of BrC. Three groups of light-absorbing organics were found to be important BrC chromophores, including compounds that have multiple absorption peaks at wavelengths > 350 nm (12 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their derivatives) and compounds that have a single absorption peak at wavelengths < 350 nm (10 nitrophenols and nitrosalicylic acids and 3 methoxyphenols). These measured BrC chromophores show distinct seasonal differences and contribute on average about 1.1 % and 3.3 % of light absorption of methanol-soluble BrC at 365 nm in summer and winter, respectively, about 7 and 5 times higher than the corresponding carbon mass fractions in total organic carbon. The sources of BrC were resolved by positive matrix factorization (PMF) using these chromophores instead of commonly used non-light-absorbing organic markers as model inputs. Our results show that vehicular emissions and secondary formation are major sources of BrC (∼ 70 %) in spring, coal combustion and vehicular emissions are major sources (∼ 70 %) in fall, biomass burning and coal combustion become major sources (∼ 80 %) in winter, and secondary BrC dominates (∼ 60 %) in summer. Maotai liquor is one of the most famous traditional Chinese distilled liquor enjoyed by many people all over the world for its unique production method, impressive liquor quality, and soy sauce‐like and roasted aroma style. It is known that aroma characteristics of liquor mainly depend on the aroma compounds. Alcohols as one of the most important categories of aroma components have been determined in Maotai liquor. However, the systemic analysis of alcoholic compounds in liquor is limited, especially the active alcoholic components and their pharmacological effects. Therefore, in this study, a systemic analysis method was proposed by combining in silico absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) evaluation, target fishing, network pharmacology technology, pathway analysis, and experimental verification to interpret the pharmacological mechanism of alcoholic compounds in Maotai liquor. Finally, 15 compounds with favorable pharmacokinetic profiles were screened through in silico ADME models. Thirty‐eight related targets of these active compounds were identified by target prediction method. The network pharmacology and pathway analysis were developed to clarify the pharmacological effect of alcoholic compounds in Maotai liquor at the system and pathway level. Moreover, the key active compounds were validated by in vitro experiments that verified the effectiveness of our methods. Our study provides a novel approach to systematically analyze the pharmacological effect of alcoholic compounds in Maotai liquor, which would be beneficial for promoting the in‐depth study of various liquors. Practical Application: Maotai liquor is popularly enjoyed in the world for a very long time. However, the systemic analysis of compounds in liquor is limited. Our systematic analysis approach was developed to explore the bioactive ingredients and their related target proteins as well as the pharmacological effects of Maotai liquor. Introduction: It has been suggested that uncontrolled epilepsy might not necessarily equate to drug resistance when antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) are used at relatively low doses, a practice frequently observed in rural areas of China.Objective: To assess the clinical benefits of further drug manipulation in this situation, we prospectively followed up the outcomes of patients with uncontrolled epilepsy while taking relatively low doses of AEDs.Methods: The study included patients aged 16 years and older with uncontrolled epilepsy and who were receiving at least one AED at a dosage below 50% of the World Health Organization (WHO) defined daily dose (DDD) (50% DDD) (Group 1). Patients with drug-resistant epilepsy were included for comparison (Group 2). Both groups were followed-up for at least 2 years. Seizure outcomes after further drug manipulations were recorded at the last follow-up.Results: A total of 197 patients (55.3% male) were included in Group 1 and 32 (46.9% male) in Group 2; their mean duration of follow-up was 28.85 ± 1.90 and 30.91 ± 2.04 months, respectively. At the last follow-up, 16.8% (33/197) of patients in Group 1 had become seizure-free compared with none in Group 2 (p < 0.001). Seventeen of 93 (18.3%) patients in Group 1 became seizure free after increasing the dosage of baseline AED(s) alone. Only 5.5% (3/55) of patients who had failed to respond to an AED at ≥50% DDD at baseline became seizure free compared with 21.1% (30/142) who did not have such a history (p = 0.001). The number of AEDs taken at a dosage below 50% DDD at baseline was not associated with seizure outcome.Conclusions: Uncontrolled epilepsy could become controlled in a substantial proportion of patients by dose increase alone, particularly if there is no history of drug failure at ≥50% DDD. In recent years, haze pollution is frequent, which seriously affects daily life and production process. The main factors to measure the degree of smoke pollution are the concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the prediction of PM2.5/PM10 concentration. Since PM2.5 and PM10 concentration data are time series, their time characteristics should be considered in their prediction. However, the traditional neural network is limited by its own structure and has some weakness in processing time related data. Recurrent neural network is a kind of network specially used for sequence data modeling, that is, the current output of the sequence is correlated with the historical output. In this paper, a haze prediction model is established based on a deep recurrent neural network. We obtained air pollution data in Chengdu from the China Air Quality Online Monitoring and Analysis Platform, and conducted experiments based on these data. Introduction: While the research on improving individual health literacy by promoting individual skills and abilities is increasing, less attention has been paid to the complexities of the healthcare environment that may influence patients' ability to access, understand, and apply health information and health services to make health decisions. This study aimed to develop and validate a Health Literacy Environment Scale (HLES) that is suitable for Chinese culture., Methods: This study was conducted in two phases. First, using the Person-Centered Care (PCC) framework as a theoretical framework, initial items were developed by using the existing health literacy environment (HLE) related measurement tools, literature review, qualitative interviews, and the researcher's clinical experience. Second, scale development was based on two rounds of Delphi expert consultation and a pre-test conducted with 20 hospitalized patients. Using 697 hospitalized patients from three sample hospitals, the initial scale was developed after item screening and its reliability and validity were evaluated., Results: The HLES comprised 30 items classified into three dimensions as follows: interpersonal (11 items), clinical (9 items), and structural (10 items) dimensions. The Cronbach's α coefficient of the HLES was 0.960 and the intra-class correlation coefficient was 0.844. The confirmatory factor analysis verified the three-factor model after allowing for the correlation of five pairs of error terms. The goodness-of-fit indices signified a good fit for the model ( χ 2 /df = 2.766, RMSEA = 0.069, RMR = 0.053, CFI = 0.902, IFI = 0.903, TLI = 0.893, GFI = 0.826, PNFI = 0.781, PCFI = 0.823, PGFI = 0.705). The item-content validity index ranged from 0.91 to 1.00, and the scale-content validity index was 0.90., Conclusion: The HLES had good reliability and validity and provides a patient perspective tool for evaluating HLE and a new perspective for improving health literacy in China. That is, healthcare organizations make it easier for patients to access, understand, and use health information and service. Childhood witnessing domestic violence (CWDV) exerts short- and long-term negative impacts on emotional and behavioral health. The present study investigated the epidemiological features of CWDV, and its negative impact on psychological outcomes in a sample of Chinese college students. The mediating role of emotion regulation strategies on CWDV associations with psychological outcomes and gender differences in these relationships were examined. A total of 3,126 respondents (1,034 males; 2,086 females; 6 missing data in gender) completed the study questionnaire, which included demographic characteristics, CWDV, and suicide attempt history items as well as the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) and Affect Lability Scale-18 (ALS-18). Overall, 43.03% of the respondents reported CWDV, including 44.87% of males and 42.09% of females. Higher frequencies of CWDV were found to be related to the following factors: unstable marital status of parents; not being an only child; being a left-behind child, family financial difficulties, consumption of alcohol in the past year, and being in relatively poor physical condition. Among males, ERQ suppression scores were significantly higher for those men who experienced "often or every day" CWDV than for men who indicated that they did not have any history of CWDV (Bonferroni-corrected p = 0.047). More frequent CWDV was associated with higher ALS-18 scores and increased risk of suicide attempts in males and females (p < 0.05), and emotion regulation (suppression) was found to mediate the association between CWDV and affective lability among males. This study revealed high rates of CWDV, and serious impacts of CWDV on mental health in male and female Chinese college students. In males, but not females, emotion regulation strategy use, use of suppression, was found to act as a mediator in the association of CWDV with affective lability. Our findings suggest that interventions for individuals with CWDV should focus on the emotional regulation, which may help them improve mental health, especially in males.

Introduction: Prior studies have explored the prevalence of social anxiety disorders and found that childhood major adverse experiences increased the risk of social anxiety. However, few studies analyzed features of social anxiety and explored the mediation mechanism of the relationship between childhood major adverse experiences and social anxiety in early adulthood., Methods: Two thousand seven hundred and fifty-nine college students from Hunan, China participated in the survey-based study. They completed questionnaires on major adverse childhood experiences, social anxiety symptoms, and a sense of security during a study conducted from 2017 to 2018., Results: 1) 33.38% of the students reported experiencing at least one social anxiety symptom; the highest detection rate (20.22%) was social anxiety symptoms related to participants' nervousness when in large groups. 2) Females and individuals who consumed alcohol in the past year and individuals with a poor physical condition had a significantly higher risk of having social anxiety symptoms (p<0.05). 3) Childhood major adverse events experience increased the risk of some social anxiety symptoms, especially experiencing 3 or more adverse events (p<0.05). 4) A sense of security mediated the relationship between childhood major adverse events experience and social anxiety symptoms., Conclusions: Extensive detection rate of social anxiety symptoms existed among college students, early adversities increased the risk of social anxiety in early adulthood, and the relationship between childhood major adversity and social anxiety was affected by sense of security., (Copyright © 2021. Maotai liquor is a typical representative of sauce aroma-style flavor liquors and has been considered to be a precious cultural heritage of the oriental spirit culture. Aroma components are largely responsible for the characteristic aroma of liquor. Pyrazine compound is one of the most important categories of aroma components that affect the flavor of Maotai liquor. However, limited information is available regarding the systemic analysis of pyrazine compounds, especially the pharmacological effects of bioactive pyrazine components. Therefore, in the current study, a systemic analysis approach was provided by integrating absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) screening, target identification, pharmacological evaluation and pathway analysis to explore the pharmacological mechanism of pyrazine compounds in Maotai liquor. As a result, 17 pyrazine components with adequate pharmacokinetic properties were filtered out using ADME models. Thirty eight potential targets of these active compounds were identified through target prediction. The pharmacological evaluation was proposed to uncover the pharmacological effect of pyrazine compounds in Maotai liquor from the holistic perspective. Finally, the pharmacological effects of the pathways perturbed by potential targets were interpreted based on the pathway analysis. Reports on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of Mycobacterium leprae, relationship with bacteriological index (BI), and transmission in China are limited. We investigated the emergence of AMR mutations, the relationship between BI and AMR in complete, moderate and lack of BI decline cases, and molecular epidemiological features of AMR cases by enrolling 290 leprosy cases from four endemic provinces. Seven (2.41%), one (0.34%), five (1.72%), one (0.34%), and one (0.34%) strains had single mutations in folP1 , rpoC , gyrA , gyrB , and 23S rRNA, respectively. Double mutations in folP1 and gyrA , rpoB and gyrA , and gyrA and 23S rRNA were observed in one (0.34%) strain each. Mutated strains occurred in three out of 81 (95% CI-0.005-0.079, p = 0.083) cases with complete BI decline, in seven out of 103 (95% CI 0.018-0.117, p = 0.008) cases with moderate BI decline, and in four out of 34 (95% CI 0.003-0.231, p = 0.044) cases with lack of BI decline. Most of these mutated strains were geographically separated and diverged genotypically. AMR mutations may not be the main cause of the lack of BI decline. The low transmission of AMR strains at the county level indicates an ongoing transmission at close contact levels.

Goal: Epilepsy is a major complication of stroke. There have been suggestions that patients with cardioembolic stroke are at a greater risk of developing seizures than other stroke subtypes. However, the incidence of atrial fibrillation (AF) and cardioembolic stroke varies considerably across countries, generally higher in Western populations than in Asian populations. This study assessed whether ethnicity affects the association between AF and poststroke seizure (PSS) development. We hypothesized that Royal Melbourne Hospital ([RMH] Melbourne) patients will have significantly higher incidence of AF-related PSS than in the Jinling Hospital (Nanjing) population., Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective, multicenter cohort study including patients with anterior circulation ischemic stroke admitted between 2008 and 2015. Occurrences of PSS were ascertained by reviewing medical records or telephone follow-up. To test the hypothesis of an interaction between ethnicity and AF for PSS occurrence, a logistic regression model with AF and ethnicity together with an ethnicity-by-AF interaction term was used., Findings: Of 782 patients followed-up for seizure development at RMH, 247 (31.6%) patients had AF, of whom 10 (4%) developed PSS. Of 1185 patients followed-up and included at JH, 54 (4.8%) patients with AF, of whom 4 (7.4%) developed PSS. At RMH, no significant association was found between AF and PSS; odds ratio .75, 95% confidence interval .4-1.6, (P = .4). At JH, there was a significant association between AF and increased PSS: OR 4.0, 95% CI 1.3-12.1, (P = .01), P for interaction = .03., Conclusion: Further understanding of genetic risks and environmental differences across ethnic populations and the role in PSS is required., (Copyright © 2018.
